Tszyu vs Harrison FULL FIGHT: March 11, 2023 | PBC on Showtime

Australian superstar Tim Tszyu remains undefeated and claims the vacant Interim WBO 154-pound title following a dominant performance and ninth-round TKO win over former world champion Tony “Superbad” Harrison.

Popular undefeated hometown favorite Tim Tszyu dominated former world champion Tony Harrison with a ninth-round TKO to win the Interim WBO Super Welterweight title Sunday in a SHOWTIME BOXING INTERNATIONAL main event live on SHOWTIME® before 11,740 rabid pro-Tszyu fans at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia.

With the win Tszyu became the mandatory challenger to undisputed super welterweight king Jermell Charlo. At the time of the stoppage, all three judges were in agreement scoring the bout 77-75 in favor of Tszyu after eight completed rounds.

When asked after the fight what the win means, Tsyzu yelled into the mic, “It means I’ve beat the man who beat the man!”

Tszyu was then asked if he had a message for Charlo: “The message was sent clearly. You know what’s next, you know I’m coming.”

The undisputed king of the 154-pound division, Charlo joined the SHOWTIME announce team live from the CBS Studios in New York City as a special guest.

“He’s going to be a tough fight because he’s coming forward,” Charlo said following the telecast. “But I think he’s perfect for my style. He fits suitably well for me. I know he can’t take my punch because I know my punch is different. I think he’s going to do the same thing (when he fights me). He’s not going to change up much. Seeing him tonight just made me want to fight and be back in there, to get this over with, to just shut him up. I’ve shut up a lot of fighters. He’s just another one.”

Tszyu (22-0, 16 KOs) – who elected to face the veteran Harrison after Tszyu’s scheduled match with Charlo on January 28 was scratched when Charlo broke his hand in training – simply outboxed and out-performed Detroit’s Harrison (29-4-1, 21 KOs).

“The better man won,” Harrison said. “They’ve done a good job over there. His timing, his reaction is very good. He just beat me, so all I can say is he’s up for Charlo.”

Harrison started quickly, but soon felt Tszyu’s power as Harrison was rocked by an overhand right late in the third round that staggered Harrison, a sequence that was repeated again at the end of the fourth round.

Harrison hit back in the sixth, landing more shots than Tszyu and displaying his defense as Tszyu missed on several swings. It was more of the same in the eighth as Tszyu continued his relentless pressure and started out-landing Harrison. Harrison had had enough in the ninth, finally hitting the canvas but beating the 10-count to continue the battle until the referee ended matters.

The 28-year-old Tszyu, who made his SHOWTIME debut in March 2022 with a win over Terrell Gausha, is the son of International Boxing Hall of Famer Kostya Tszyu, who competed on SHOWTIME 10 times and had some of his most memorable fights on the network. Kostya Tszyu was unable to attend the Sunday fights because his daughter and Tim’s half-sister has been ill.

“We will always have respect for each other, but tonight I proved I was the better fighter,” Tszyu said of Harrison. “The way my career has unfolded has been step by step, all the way to the top. That’s my mentality as a fighter. When I’m presented an opportunity like Charlo, of course I’m going to take that. And when I get an opportunity to face Tony Harrison, of course I’m going to take it.”

Harrison said he wasn’t sure what the future would hold. “The boxing [stuff] is hard. I’ve been doing this since I was five. I don’t know if I want to spend the next five, six years getting hit in the face. My brother [trainer LJ Harrison] had the perfect game plan, but sometimes when you get in there you forget.”

The impression that this is a fighter whose game plan is to fight the same speed and intensity in rounds 10 11 and 12 that he’s fighting in rounds 1 2 3 and four very poised very in control who’s in confidence we look at our show stats the total power

Punches yeah a high percentage for Harrison but very low output only six power punches landed in almost four completed rounds it’s not going to get it done it is a really good round man really close both having their moments there that’s where you want to be if

You’re Harrison jab jab right hand step back and then come back and move exactly under a minute here’s Zoo now missed with that right hand now Harrison is moving he seems more comfortable and more [Applause] confident Here’s the final 30 seconds of round four and you see Harrison moving slowly

This is the rounds where he’s going to press a lot more the body shot the left left hook to the body by Zeus counter right hand by Harrison yeah even more to the body knowing that her Harrison could start fading Su trying to keep Harrison on the ropes there’s the right

Uppercut and it’s really the first time in the fight guys where Tony Harrison has had an extended session along the ropes that one with a little low and again you see Zoo applying the pressure yeah if you’re harison you don’t want to fight Su total to there’s

Too counter punch I haven’t seen the counter punching much from from Harrison this is a dangerous time for Tony Harrison because generally against against the better opponents he’s face he’s been either ahead or very close on the cards at this point in a fight I think he’s fallen behind here and this

Losses at the time of the stoppage he was either ahead or even on at least one of the cards so he indeed has faded late here’s a left hook to the body by Tim Zoo follows up with a right hand but there’s Harrison with an uppercut yeah you’re right about that

Sten the three losses that Harrison has you know uh he was you know he was closing those scorecards he was doing his work but it is in this fight has been Tim Sue pretty much all fight now against the ropes Harrison trying to fight his way off sleepy uppercut overhand right Zoo

In Australia might something is wearing them down and it’s just not is is this not the the normal Tony that F Sergio Garcia well to your point champ if you watch the the range of this fight at the beginning obviously it was Harrison with that jab but there’s another left hand

By Zoo now it’s in close this is where Tim Tim Zoo wants this fight yeah and that happens early on in the fights that’s why you got to wait until like the third fourth round like all right there is a beginning you know uh Zoo trying to fill out Harrison that’s why

You know Harrison had his moments with the jab but it’s that pressure that Tim Su is applying right now and at at good range and keep in mind this is the round where Tim zo said I’m going to turn the tide and start to drown Tony

Harrison and what did Tony said if he drowns me I’m I’m I’ve been drowned before come back to life we’ll see God the irony of this situation is this is about the time in Tony Harrison’s fights where he’s faded and gotten stopped tonight he may need a

Knockout or at least a couple of knockdowns to stay in this fight against Tim Zoo double left hook by Tim zoo and then the right hand Harrison pops his head back with a jab and again got to follow it up with that right hand yeah throwing that jab

But he’s not throwing nothing else there’s that right hand as you talked about champ double Jab another one but no right hand as we take a look at the total power punches which is everything minus a jab yeah that’s almost three times the number of punches thrown Power Punch is thrown by

Zoo and almost three times the number landed and that’s the story of the fight right there there’s a right hand and another right hand right on the button to Harrison and a right to the V Harrison hurt he’s get hurt Sue backs him to the ropes there’s a left

Hook no movement no holding yeah he need to goar him he’s got to hold on double uppercut by Zoo he’s looking to stop Tony a and it drops him 4 5 6 7 hey come here what there what there no Dan Rex top dwon says that is it Tim

Zoo and if I had to use one word to kind of put in perspective now his eventual challenge of our man jell over here it’s he legit he further legitimized himself as a as a contender Jamal tell me what you saw I mean he did what he was

Supposed to do um he he he um did exactly what he was supposed to do he stood in there he fought had his hands up kept punching Tony Harrison Fades at the end he dominated during his time and and and that’s it but I’m none of those

Guys you know what I’m not Tony harison I’m going get in there and do what I got to do and move my my be let’s take a look at uh the show stats totals here and again it was those power punches that did in Tony Harrison yeah

39% of uh st’s punches landed but 45% of this power shots when you land 45% of your power shots and you throw as many as zo did in this fight you’re going to win every time here’s the finish the uppercut as you talked about and it wasn’t just one uppercut
