Okay let’s welcome Martin kimer captain of CLE GC Martin well played today six under pass 64 can you just talk us to your round and any highlights from your day I had a very very good start um I think I started on fairly tricky holes number eight and number nine you know is
Those are the holes I think they one of the tricky ones on the golf course and I I hit it balls to two to two feet so it was fairly easy birdies to start with and it’s nice to start the round in the tournament like that um and then I had a
Um two or three fairly long PS that I made and that really kept the round going and and there was opportunity you know to shoot a fairly low score you know six is it’s a great score on their Golf Course awesome the support from the Hong Kong crowds was great out there
Today can you just talk about some of the atmosphere and the fan reception out on the golf course yeah every time we we come we come to Hong Kong um it’s not only the golf course that is that is uh fantastic also you know the the the people are very friendly they’re very
Supportive they’re great golf fans um last time I was here you know was probably 14 15 years ago um and the golf course hasn’t changed it doesn’t need to be changed um so the hospitality of the of Hong Kong the Hong Kong people the government has been fantastic yesterday
We went to the m mum um had a look around there so um it was nice to experience also a little bit of the culture and a little bit of Hong Kong awesome Mike Martin can you talk about the course itself there uh especially amongst the lead years there weren’t
Actually a lot of bogeys made uh obviously a ton of birdies among everybody really uh just are you surprised that maybe how low the scores were or did you kind of expect that um I’m a little bit surprised how many played super well today you know I mean
I think you are I don’t know maybe just in the top 20 if you fall on the par so they’re a lot of five unders and uh five under scores which is obviously is never easy doesn’t matter how easy the golf course is um if you do if you do hit the
Fairways you will you will do have some possibilities but the greens are very tricky um very slopey um sometimes you have grain and break of opposites so it’s I I don’t think it’s that easy to make the putts so um I’m just surprised about the amount of people who played
Really well today yeah at one point there were 12 guys tied for the lead do you kind of expect that to to carry through for the rest of the week where it’s really going to be bunched at the top yeah I think is it’s one of those go
Of course that no one really runs away um cuz if if the score is low then or if let’s say five six seven guys are on top they’re probably all around the same number um it’s not only it’s not like one or two guys that sometimes that happen at tournaments they run away
Because they really suit the golf course or so something like that that the golf course that we play here um I think it it can suit every kind of player you don’t need to hit it really long and and um if you hit it long you can just pull
Back a little bit and if you hit it shorter then it’s still a golf course way of opportunity so there’s not really any advantage um on that Golf Course of of long hitters and I think that is uh very rare these days that we play those kinds of courses and it’s fun that
Anybody in the in the field has a chance thank you Martin uh we love seeing you over here so please keep on shooting rounds like this I wanted to ask you uh Martin you went through a tough phase last year with the rest and other things so how
Are you really feeling and how did you prepare for this season and how are you happy with the state of your game yeah I think this this winter was the first winter for the last I would say four years that I was um painfree you know
Was that that winter I could really work on my game again um I could really practice in in Spain um it was it was nice knowing you come to the first event and you are prepared enough to play well it doesn’t mean that you will play well
But at least you put everything that you had um the last three months you put into your practice and I was able to do that um fortunately I don’t need to take any painkillers anymore um obviously I I think the bandage is more like a mental
Thing um that I feel like you know I protected a little bit more um obviously when I had surgery in November 22 um 23 was always one of those Seasons where I just need to pull through um and it’s very disappointing that you play against
Um some of the best players in the world and you know just being okay is not enough um I finished quite often on the bottom of the leader board and that was mentally quite difficult you know to go through that that you you can’t really play better at the moment because you
Can’t put in the hours of practice that I needed to play well and uh this winter I finally could and um now is just getting used to it again you know to shooting lower scores and once in a while being up there and feeling that pressure and that uh yeah it’s just a
Different feeling when you’re when you’re in the top five top 10 and playing to to win a golf tournament and one last question from me Martin uh as good as it was for you personally and for Richard Bland you must be a little disappointed that after that great start
K could not really take you to the lead top of the leaderboard in the team ranking team standings as well yeah I think KH is probably the most disappointed person after that round um but I think we need to focus on the positive here you know we all started
Really well C had a great start I had a great start um I don’t know what happened the last uh three four holes for him but that is a golf course as I said earlier you know you don’t need to be that far off and then you can make
You can make a couple Bogies here and there um but there are also plenty of opportunities to make to make birdie so um I think you need to focus on the positive the way he started um and try to accept you know what happened it’s always difficult when you when you
Finish that way you take it a little bit while you have dinner you know you still think about it um but once you go to bed it should be gone and focus on the next day just time for one more question all right free to go Martin
