Don’t care come on over I’ll be looking for some ears to bend so um I’ll be looking forward to seeing you guys there for more than 20 years Anglers everywhere have come to know one thing that nothing says no to Fish Bites next thing of course is the trout

Stocking which has been going on and uh Massachusetts has really started to kick things into gear uh they’ve done like 20s something ponds just since the beginning of this week most of them are from Plymouth out to the cape and um the you know preliminary reports we’re hearing have been really good fishing

Out there and then Connecticut same thing you know they’ve really ramped up their efforts in the in the last few days uh so you’re going to see you know that’s pretty much Statewide they’re just covering the entire State uh great fishing has followed and then of course

Rhode Island they are stalking but Rhode Island is the only state in Southern New England that has a closed trout season so uh trout stocked waters are off limits in Rhode Island but um you know so just don’t make that mistake if you want to catch trout fish Connecticut

Fish Massachusetts and uh leave the ocean stayed out of your plans next thing of course is the giveaway which is ongoing and uh you know the photos have been kind of a trickle lately um you know it’s kind of surprising to me because we’ve had nice

Weather the fishing has been good by by all of my experience and all the guys that I’m talking to just doesn’t seem like a lot of guys are actually outdoing it um but you know we we still got more than a month to uh to win this thing I’m

Giving away this um this dual action swimmer made or as a copy of a dual action swimmer made by Connecticut Yankee back in the 40s 50s and 60s really cool little plug you probably be the only guy throwing one um and it’s got unique action so be something cool

To win and all you got to do is take a picture of a recently caught fish send it in me at danderson thee fisherman.com or text it to the number on the screen and then just give me the pertinent details just tell me your name tell me

Where the fish was caught uh tell me the size of the fish you know tell me the story behind it whatever and uh we’ll get you entered in the contest and good chance you find yourself in the magazine as well this one’s going to wrap up on

April 24th and and uh that’s when we’ll pick the winner so uh until then you know keep fishing keep sending those pictures in and we’ll get you entered in the Contest moving over to the reports now we’ll start things off with the freshwater synopsis which is something that we do during the winter in early spring and this week it’s been mostly about the trout there’s a lot of a lot of trout St stalking going on which has

Got a lot of people excited to get out there and fish um it’s it’s a great thing especially over in Connecticut where we used to have that closed season and now it’s not closed anymore and it does good things for everybody you know it’s uh it gives the tackle shops some

Added business in the winter time which they definitely I’m sure appreciate and it gives a lot of people a good reason to get out there and fish something that a lot of guys don’t think of though is that when these trout are introduced to these ponds um it also is a reason for

Some of the biggest largemouth bass in the lake to get excited so um it can be it’s almost like a it’s almost like a herring run you know you get these you get all of a sudden you get all these bigger sort of Dumber fish in the pond

And uh the larg mouth bass take notice so if you’re not a trout guy but you want to try to catch some big bass right now is a good time to get out there with a bull Shad or a huddon or some other you know Boutique custom bait and um you

Know it’s these fish are already on the prow for a big bait so it’s a really good time to throw something that looks like a trout and um you know don’t be fooled it’s not just the California Texas and Florida thing it works up here too and some really big fish are caught

Every year in these trout stocked Waters uh by guys throwing big baits trying to trying to look like what was just put into the pond um so that’s uh that’s one thing that’s going on also hearing about really good pick roll fishing I got this

Picture of a big one from Mike whack out on the cape um you know this is the time of year when these when The Pick roll are starting to move into the beginning of their spawning mode it’s more toward the end of the month when the bite

Really tends to ramp up but uh it’s already starting now it’s a good time to get a really big one I know pick will get a bad reputation but they are actually quite fun to catch and um and right now is a great time to Target them

And uh then we’ll just go back to Trout real quick and just want to remind you guys you know this is a great time to get your kids involved um it’s easy fishing right now you don’t have to throw bait U you don’t have to be quiet

Or careful or anything like that uh stock trout are they have no instincts so they’ve been raised in a cement ditch so you know you go out there you throw something that’s brightly colored that moves you know that has a lot of uh flashy action to it um and you’re going

To attract some attention you’re going to catch fish um I like things with oranges or chartreuse or bright white bright silver um anything like that I tend to do it with a jerk bait just cuz I find that that is the most effective but you can definitely do it with a tin

Uh or a spoon or a spinner anything like that um you’re going to get that reactive strike and this is a great time of year to rack up some numbers and again get those kids involved moving over to the regional reports now I haven’t really heard any

Ice fishing reports from up North I’m sure there’s still some safe ice up there but uh I think things are starting to dwindle out a little bit so if you were thinking about making a run north I would definitely make some phone calls or something before you do it because

You may get there and find that there’s no ice to play with uh dropping down over the border into Massachusetts let’s start things off with James Jes as you can see I have no ice here there’s no ice on the NorthShore Mass that’s for sure it is completely gone not even a

Skim which it led to uh some pretty fantastic open water fishing if you got out uh got we a bunch of Pike in the meramac uh lots of Lodge mouth and panish being caught all over the place and uh you really didn’t have to necessarily go to a slower presentation

To find fish so even though the water’s still pretty cold uh things are heating up anyways uh no word on any hold over stripers up this way um I would assume that the guys in Boston found some but uh I didn’t hear anything from those guys down there

But get get out and enjoy this beautiful stuff going on here we got about uh four pairs of swans out here and I just seen a Ply Leed woodpecker up here last week I was here and saw three of them so enjoy the outdoors while you can and get out

And catch some fish uh like I said it’s only going to get better from here on out so get out and get fish all right Dave uh oh one other thing it’s getting close to Springtime here and I know uh daylight savings this weekend so enjoy the extra hour of uh

Sunlight uh but everybody little Public Service Announcement uh over the winter some trash has been all over the place so if you can just uh pick up a little bit if you make a stop it helps everything all right thanks Dave now it seems like the Eastern 2/3 of Massachusetts and it

Could even go further than that are now open water so you’ve got you know good bites for jerk bait bass opening up throughout the uh throughout most of the state anyway uh we’re going to start seeing more the trout stocking taking place in Central Mass now too and uh as

We move down more toward Plymouth you got great trout fishing and great bass fishing down there and that’s one of those areas where we start to see those really big pickle showing up uh same could be said for out on the cape I’ve been hearing about some good Smallmouth

Fishing in places like mash B wakebe lots of good large mouth fishing throughout the entire cape and with all that trout stocking going on you know the Trout fishing’s been good uh but that’s really been most of the story on the cape if you guys have been hitting

The Creeks looking for hold over stripers and I’ve been hearing that you know the guys are being marginally successful it hasn’t been great but there are some fish being caught uh so if you don’t mind putting in the time you can definitely find some fish out

There uh stuff you know like the saiki rig poock mackerel stuff in the canal that seems like it’s over uh checked in with Bruce from Canal Bait and Tackle and he said he hadn’t heard anything in a couple weeks now uh so I think those fish have uh moved out uh other than

That uh we can take this might be the last one we’ll take a you know we’ll take a look way Inland and we’ll check in now with Roy Lea what can I say it’s ice out uh it’s been a phenomenal week of fishing um I mean it seems like those

Few 60° days and 50s that we had last week really you know anything that had open ice or opened up uh just warmed up enough to really get fish moving uh Pike AR in the shallows they’re doing their thing they’re spawning right now uh I got one today by accident I don’t like

Targeting when they’re doing their things but they’re there and sometimes you know you just can’t you can’t you can’t uh get away from them but other than that man the pan fishing has been uh just just great out here in western Mass a lot of big yellow perch which are

Looking to spawn soon uh same thing with crappie they’re starting to move uh closer into the shallows uh I mean we’re talking roughly you know 12 to 18 fet of water uh over the weed you know over weeds um just kind of suspended there uh yellow perch you know same kind of water

Though you want to look for some some rocky uh points or or or bars um they’re going to move in Shallow as well soon uh and then the bass fishing and perel and everything else has just been I mean it’s just been great uh you know my go-to’s been been the ChatterBait lately

Uh you know it’s it’s hard to beat um for these cold fish uh you know a lot of vibration uh and most of those baths have become you know believe it or not anywhere from two to to 6 feet of water uh you know sunny days we haven’t had

Many but on the sunny days you know look for the wood or rip wrap you know anything that warms up from the Sun really quick that’s going to generate the more the most warmth in the lake or river or Pond wherever you’re are fishing um and that’s GNA you know

Gravitate some fish to it so uh I am G to let you go I will catch up with you guys next week uh maybe I’ll be at Rissa maybe not I don’t know I’ve got a few things to do but for now I’m going to get at these fish so later moving over

Into Rhode Island now we’ll start things off with an East Bay report from TJ copi so first we’ll get into reports and I’m going to start in the East Bay um The Return of the white perch where have they been we thought maybe they had

Dropped out out of some of the SE run spots we’ve been fishing but I believe lo and behold they were spawning and they weren’t on the feed uh we’re back catching them again uh it’s a good thing um and if you want to get in on the

Action on those white prets just pretty much hit a pond or a lake that has a um like access to salt water somewhere where a herone would be uh always a great spot for white perch uh especially the SE runs they come into spawn uh then

They stay in for a little while and you can catch them great fish to eat great fish to catch they fight hard we all know that if you’ve been watching Jeff Sullivan uh he’s uh done well this week again in some of the East Bay ponds um a

Couple other ponds uh in the Southeastern Mass uh side I got a couple of good reports from noach chuk which is in Dartmouth and you can access that from either Route 6 near Rachel’s in westpool or you can get on the re road side of Dartmouth

Um some good bass reports for in there I actually happened to be uh on my regular job working making a delivery uh and I was talking to a guy that was fishing there and just a guy who’s been you know fishing there for quite a long time he

Said he’s been doing well with large mouth bass up to 2 lbs uh they’ve been you know a little slow but he’s getting them in there um and another one is the Turner which is a little further up in uh Dartmouth uh going towards uh the Freetown line uh another good good Pond

But I I what I got to say is all these ponds are probably all going to start heating up in this area uh just because of you know the warm rains we’ve had uh we we had almost a 60° Day on Sunday in the afternoon um I had a chance to get

Out myself um got some nice crappie in Milford Pond uh over in Swansea um the bite was non-stop it was really good it it was a just about an hour bite though they I couldn’t after so long the fish just weren’t biting I couldn’t find them anymore I moved around a couple spots

But uh this time of year these fish are moving you got to stay with them you got to move with them you know just like the pit they’re they’re always on the Move they’re looking for their forage um they still the crappie were actually very aggressive surprisingly uh couldn’t find

A pass again in there not sure why but I did try some paddle Tails I tried some stick baits uh definitely you know tried all did everything I was supposed to be doing I just couldn’t get on a bass um so even tried the worm and N rig uh

Didn’t get anything um so there’s lots of good opportunities uh I know we’re having a wet week and the rain’s going to stick around into this weekend but uh I I think the rains are warm the the temperatures are in the 50s so uh if if

You can get out there and fish uh give it a good shot um you know even with the uh the schoie situation there water warming up might spark him up there’s some Heron moving in still so uh give that a chance also so for this week’s

Tip it’s just a quick tip and it’s what I do all all winter long is basically as as I buy a jumbo spool of for me it’s just yui hybrid floral cobbin and U I will definitely just take some baggies and then I I just I tie a bunch of rigs

Um I I even uh I tie some with and then I’ll tie some without the hook um you know based on you know the conditions and some of these will be 25 and and some of them are just like plain mono um that I that I actually have too but

These are tog jigs so not along with the ti I’ll tie like probably I don’t know I got bag bag full of them you know so I’ll put them in the small Ziploc then I’ll put them into the bigger zip lock bag and I’ll store them in there that

Way I’m ready to go all the time uh when it comes to rigs if I break off I can pretty much just uh I use a snap swivel a coasta lock on my uh on my for my terminal on my rod and I pretty much

Just put a loop on the top of this and I can switch rigs I mean of course if I break at the snaps I’ll tie the snap but uh I have them all tied so I also tie a bunch of fluke rigs too you know the

High low rigs for fluke I tie a couple of chicken rigs in here I just have everything ready to go so when I’m out fishing I don’t have to waste time to do any of that stuff so hopefully that helps you guys and uh maybe spars you to

You know tie your rigs uh for the season but I I I pretty much do it all winter it keeps me uh keeps me going if I’m not fishing and then there’s ice so from the East Bay a little bit of Southeast and Massachusetts uh we’ll check in with you

Guys next week now for the first week in about a month it doesn’t seem like there’s been much movement at all on the uh scale for holdover strip bass I am hearing about guys getting fish um these fish are mostly hanging deep and um the guys I’m hearing about doing the most

Damage are either in a k or a boat they’re using a fish finder to find the fish um they’re find them anywhere from like 20 to 50 ft of water depending on the Estuary and you know what the limits of the depth are in the Estuary and um

You know the the few things that I was I’ve been able to sort of pull out of the data points I’ve been able to pull out of this are that these fish are on the Move more than they were uh they again they’re in deep water and the guys

That are having success are doing it by downsizing so using you know smaller soft Plastics 2 to 4 in at the most um using the lightest jig heads possible using very light lines so they can keep it down and not have to worry about the current sort of scoping it out or the

Movement of the boat of the kayak and um you know Finding schools of fish and then just trying to stay on them and just kind of finessing them you know fishing different style baits paddle Tails straight tails Fork Tails um you believe it or not it makes a difference

And um that’s mostly what I’ve been hearing from the holdover guys uh was checked in with a few of the headboats I know they a few of them one of them being the Island current made a uh made a wreck trip over the weekend they

Covered a ton of water and uh did not catch a ton of fish so the codfish bite right now just seems like it’s a little bit off um hopefully you know if you look at last year as an example the Cod bite really ramped up going into April

And was much better in the in the fourth month than the third so maybe that’s going to be a new pattern you know so we just keep an eye on that for you guys one thing I have been hearing about out in Block Island Sound and uh Rhode

Island Sound is that we’re starting to see more Herring schools moving in um it’s really just the beginning of these fish moving in uh but they are around it for a little bit more on that let’s toss it over now to Captain John Lee from JL Charters it’s early March we got some

Spring fog out here um so I’ve been marking little little Blobs of herring in uh you know 90 ft not a lot of fish I saw some last week I saw some this week talking with some of the local commercial fishermen there’s really not much happening on the

Southshore of Rhode Island yet a little bit of Whiting and a little bit of Herring um but it’s still way too early as one guy told me don’t let the crocuses fool you we still have another month to go um anyway I’ll be in touch have a good week enjoy the fishing shows

I won’t be there take care and while we’re checking in with our field correspondents let’s tap in uh Jeff Sullivan here he is um so this week we got good news and the good news is lucky Bait and Tackle is open for the season um your favorite

Bait Shop is open so the hours are on the door here they are Mar this is our March hours um Tuesdays were closed but in April we’ll be 7 days a week full-blown um so we got we got a lot of things going on this week we got the

Risa show the Rhode Island saltwater English show in Providence Rhode Island um I’ll be working at The Crafty one booth boo over there with Ralph and the boys uh I think the Booth’s 824 826 U if you guys want to stop over talk some fishing I’m always up for that um

But as for Lucky bait we’re getting we’re getting reels in to get clean and grease guys are bringing them in we got a pretty good line going so if you guys haven’t brought them in yet bring them in to me um I’ll get them done as fast as

Possible um so yeah yeah we’re getting a lot of getting a lot of product in um rods reels l L lures leaders what have you everything we’re getting it all in um I’m just so excited the weather’s getting better the days are getting longer um everyone’s getting the getting

The urge to go out there and get some get some fishing in so um yeah I’m just I’m just stepping in the work now and get some reels done now and uh so yeah this is going to be a big weekend so hopefully see you guys at the

Show um you know come come over to the crafty one booth I’ll be at the game on booth in and out too as well um I think the game on Booth’s uh 114 and 116 I believe so I think that’s game on Booth too but you’ll find me somewhere

In there just stop say hi or come on in the shop you know we’re open now so come on in talk some fishing um you know I’m always up for that uh but yeah so that’s that’s pretty much what’s going on this week it’s been a real busy week so

Um yeah so uh all right same time next week guys I’ll have a little bit of different update for you oh I did do some fishing this week um I did some Largemouth fishing it’s looking pretty good um another couple weeks is probably what I’m looking for more towards the

Bigger bass um got some white perch fishing in the tides look good so I’ve been doing some tidle perch fishing um and make sure you pick up this month’s issue the fisherman magazine in March the Marchers issue rather um it’s a good one I talked about the winter white

Perch fishery that we have it’s awesome um so yeah come on in stop in Lucky Bait and Tackle we’re open it’s the season baby same time next week guys Thanks Now freshwater fishing of an island doesn’t get a lot of press but a very good bass fishing around Island you just got to watch out again for those trout stocked water signs you don’t want to fish in there uh because they are off limits until opening day April 13th but

Um very good bass fishing across the state you just got to find those non-stocked ponds uh some very big bass in in the ocean state and just not a lot of guys out there targeting those fish so don’t neglect the those and the last

Thing I will bring up is that uh talk to a few guys who have seen some demm guys around some of the Herring runs and I don’t know if they’re you know checking the ladders making sure they’re unobstructed or putting in fish counters or if they’re actually observing fish

But um in either case it’s a good sign uh that these hering are going to start to move in and that’s going to kick things into gear um in some of these holdover striper Waters and it’s also got a uh will also have an effect on the largemouth bass population on the other

Side of the run so um good things going on there the I have not seen my first Osprey yet and that’s usually the indicator for me that the Herring are here uh but I feel like that could happen any day so um that’s what I have

For you guys in Rhode Island this week moving over now into Connecticut um you know lots of stocking going on in Conneticut as well which is bolstering fishing efforts across the state I’ve been hearing mostly positive reports from the guys out trying you just got to remember you have to release those trout

Unless you’re fishing in one of the trout management Lakes um and even with that I would check uh Deep’s website before I went and kept a trout uh just to be sure that that one Lake doesn’t have some special regulations cuz they’re the the the Connecticut trout

Regulations do have a lot of ins and out so you have to navigate the whole thing before you’re confident that you can keep a fish just make sure you do that uh but you know if you’re going to go catch a release fishing no big deal

Connecticut does a great job a lot of big fish go into Connecticut Waters and uh they really just blanket the entire state so uh that’s a good thing uh don’t forget too that the large amount fishing in those Lakes for many many years was off limits until the last few so that’s

A it’s a really good opportunity for you Largemouth guys to get out there and Target some of these Lakes which probably have a couple of absolute slobs in there that have been feeding on those trout forever and uh finally um they are targetable so definitely check that out

I was checking in with Rowan liel the other day he said that the river wasn’t quite blown out yet he said it was high a little murky but really pretty much what you’d expect for March however we have a lot of rain coming in and the uh

Connecticut River is sort of like the drainage ditch for all of New England so all so much of that water anyway is going to run down these tributaries and just swell that River up so um hard to say what the the result of that’s going

To be one thing I’m pretty well sure of is that it’s going to be a mess uh so Connecticut River fishing may be uh off limits through the weekend uh but for a little bit more on that let’s check in now with the man himself here’s Rowan

LEL hey everybody uh so the news this week is it’s getting warmer and wetter the Connecticut River is coming up there’s a little bit of snow melt starting to the north uh as well as the rain we’re getting uh throughout the end of this week uh that’s going to

Definitely bring the river up it’s already risen substantially I mean there was a two-day time period there where I watched it come up about a foot and a half in a very short amount of time and and start to pick up some stain but the carp fishing is absolutely fantastic in

A lot of the backwaters and and tributaries uh you should see some decent pike fishing in spots where the water Clarity is still good and the pan fishing in the Coes is pretty good as well so despite the rain uh the mild conditions are definitely getting the

Fish more active now in the coming months I’m going to be doing a lot of flooded Forest fishing for carp and bofin and things of that now let’s check in with Captain Mike Roy from realc Charters hey all this upcoming weekend is the Rhode Island saltwater fishing

Show I will be there Saturday with the hummingbird and Mota Booth so if you’re in the area stop by and say hi just down here putting some of my new setups together my conventional setups for this upcoming season I want to show you a lightweight setup this is an alternative

Option to fishing the Shimano stratch 4000 uh you could throw half ounce to 1 oz lures on this this is the Shimano tranx 151 I have 15b Power Pro on here and this is on a g Lumis it’s the gcx 843 CF now this is a nice setup for

Throwing light lures you could also throw an Alabama Rig off this early spring if the Fisher real finicky sometimes we will throw those um but I think one of the reasons uh we see a lot of saltwater Anglers especially in the Northeast but all over the place primarily grow up

Using spinning reels and uh for some some that’s right-and dominant uh conventional with a right-and retrieve can be pretty awkward so I’m a big fan of these TRS uh this is the 151 but the TRS with the left-hand retrieve I really like I also have one step up this is the

2011 just a few ounces bigger than the 151 and um this has 30 lb Power Pro on it um so this is a nice setup for bottom fishing if I’m trying to Vertical jig black seab bass or tog so check these out from Shimano and finally we’ll head down

Toward the mouth of the river and check in with Matt Stone from black Hall Outfitters what’s up everyone Matt here at black Hall Outfitters in Westbrook with this week’s fishing report feeling a little spring like out there especially with all that rain uh temperatures are going to be pretty good

Though so hopefully some fish that might have been a little bit slower during the colder days are maybe going to be more active during this warmer run um water levels in the rivers and creeks definitely High um I got out for some center pin yesterday um couldn’t buy a bite high water fast

Moving water um probably will be the norm for the next week or so while we deal with these storms coming through uh hold over bite still active um nice nice water in like the 40s or so not nice but um for March we’ll take it uh definitely some holdover action available for those

Who want it uh fresh water you can throw some big swimbaits for some pre-spawn large mouth um I’ve definitely seen some folks doing really well with that uh Wick baits as well at night can work really well for large mouth this time of year and then a lot of the trout

Stalking is uh happening as well so uh plenty to do out there uh choose your days and good luck then heading out west uh hearing about some trout fishing out there but most of the guys that are fishing out that way seem to be fishing for stripe bass and most of them are

Fishing in the honic uh story that I’ve heard has been it’s been a little slower over the last week or so nighttime still better the daytime guys have really been struggling uh they’re having a Downs size too to find uh you know some better bites in the daytime uh but for a little

Bit more on that and some of the other things happening out west let’s check in now with Max Finch from Fisherman’s World this past week I’ve seen some nicer fish taken on the honic and the upper Parts you know at night time guys throwing their favorite soft Plastics

Like GTS lunker City on lead heads guys are also getting them on sink and SPS and floating SPS in the ngat tuck area and Sullivan’s Island just look for the bite to get keep getting better and better as we move into the spring hopefully we have a good showing of uh

Springtime Herring like blue back and Al wives that really fire the bite up I’ve had some incredible bites myself you know up at the Derby Dam and then the mouth of the ngat tuck on the trout side the you know our local rivers and streams have been fishing well mayus no

River the mill and then uh you got a catch and release right now so remember to follow your local rules and regulations for each stream and then you know the Herring The Saltwater Herring hasn’t been really that good it was good for a little while spotty and then now
