In case you don’t know me I’m Dan shauger uh I was Mike’s friend caddy and student for over 25 years and unfortunately for me he taught everything that he taught me in scientific and medical terms and
It took me an awful long time to really decipher all of this and I had to do some studying to be able to turn this into common English so that you can understand exactly what he did to hit
That incredible 55 Yard drive when we talk about great players over the years Mike ALS name does not often show up and there were reasons for this and I want to tell you a few of them first of all
Michael was not a good putter his biggest reason Michael was not a good putter was his aggression Michael was one of the most aggressive golfers that ever lived because he could hit shots that
No one else could hit he could hit it over stands of trees that people would just not even try cuz they know they’re going to hit the tree it’s going to fall in the tree but Michael could do
It Michael could drive the ball 330 or more yards on the fly over a a stand of tall trees that were out at about 250 yards most people would hit the ball into the trees and they’d be rolling when it
Got there but Michael could carry it and because he knew he could do it he would try it whenever he saw that situation he would try it now I can tell you I CAD for Mike many many times and I
Played probably a hundred or more rounds of golf with him during that time I never saw him hit one bad shot as is caddy I did have to look for the ball in some strange places but it wasn’t from
Hitting a bad shot when he’d catch the top of a standard trees that are 250 yards from the green and 110 ft High and the ball would fall down inside the trees had it missed the branch it’s
On the graen that was a good shot it didn’t come off well Michael would often hit a driver nineiron driver seven iron to par fivs that people would require a driver a three-wood and then a wedge to
Get there Michael was that was that powerful the ball Striker that the ball shot off of his club and it it went away at a at a rate that would let you know even though his swing looked soft
And gentle and fluid and easy that the ball was struck with an immense amount of power and that’s one of the beautiful things you’re going to learn about our golf swing we don’t have to
Try to turn like a whirling dervish to hit the ball far our swing will appear slow but it will be quick at the moment of impact meanwhile back to his putting he’ get to the green now and he’d
Probably have 20 30 fo putt whatever most people would be tickled pink on the green and two 20 30 ft away not Mike Michael ah I’m going to make an eagle bang 8 ft by while I’m going to make
A birdie bang 4T by new thought uh-oh if I don’t get this in the hole I’m going to make a bogey I better be careful 1 in short ta it in for a bogey four after having driven a par five with a driver
And a N9 iron such was the way that Michael played Michael played the next hole 335 yd Par Four with a dog leg right most anyone in his right mind with his power would take a five iron stick it out in
The middle of the Fairway bunt the little Sand Wedge in there have an excellent chance for birdie and a a par at worst not Mike Mike’s going over those trees more often than not that he did it
The problem was after he got there same attitude the bottom line was Mike Was His Own Worst Enemy unlike some of the people who are supposed to be great ball Strikers and who who really were I’m not knocking people Ben Hogan beat balls all day long every day uh Mo Norman another great
Ball Striker he spent every minute of every day until his hands bled on the on the driving range trying to perfect his method Michael Michael knew his method he didn’t have to spend time
Practicing it as a matter of fact we would go to a tournament and we’d get a tiny bucket of balls which I’d hit two-thirds of and he’d hit four or five one irons one irons who warms up with a one
Iron Mike auson warmed up with a one Iron Mike Austin didn’t fear the one iron he could hit it high low bend it any way he wanted left right he had complete control of his golf ball you can say
Mike broke the DNA code of the golf swing uh he totally understood every movement of every body part and he understand how that would work as the body was in motion as an engineered machine that would use compound leverage Mike’s source of power wasn’t just his strength although he was quite
Strong his source of power was his understanding the application of energy how he could use the body’s levers to multiply the power and in this golf swing the power comes from the ground up to a point we call the swing Circle Center which is the place that the shoulders rotate around
And it also flows from the brain out to the hands and to the feet and leg muscles that make us add a tremendous amount of speed to the club head Michael taught me so many things his pivot his
Alone the compound pivot that he taught me that’s worth a bunch of yardage it’s also contributes to Great longevity because it protects the spine from injury he taught me how I could throw the club head through the ball on the perfect plane on the perfect path with the club face Square so
That when it went through the ball it passed the center of the arm and shoulder triangle it didn’t just catch up to it it passed it and because past it it got a huge amount of Club head speed I’m
Now going to swing the club with just my hands I’m not going to turn my body I’m not going to put any pivot into it I want you to listen to the sound that the club head makes it’s a huge amount
Of speed with just my hands not only that but if you could stop this tape in very slow motion this video in very slow motion you would see that the club head is totally under control for that
Full motion if you spend as much time at driving ranges as I have over the years you see people doing all kinds of things that Mike would mik would be outraged uh to see people trying to do
What they’re being taught as gospel as this is the way you’re supposed to swing the golf club one of these things that I see all the time that really is a big negative in the golf swing is the idea of
Trying to lock your lower body and using minimal movement wind up your body like a big rubber band and then using that unwinding of your back muscles to try to make Club head speed through the ball
This is based on a false premise grab your arm give it a Twist let go see does it spring back it doesn’t it does what the muscles tell the bones to do so Michael didn’t want stability he wanted
Mobility he wanted the ability to move the body freely through the golf swing so that we could use the muscles of our legs and a kind of a squat sting Manner and also in a running manner by using
The legs in the squatting in a running manner we can use our spine not just as an axle we can use it as a lever and as an axle and when you can do that you can generate a lot more power and you can
Protect your spine while you’re doing it Michael taught me some movements of my wrists my elbows my hands my forearm bones my shoulder blades that would guarantee that the club was in the slot
Every single time I never have to look at my club and you won’t either when you learn how the hands and arms and everything work the amount of power you can generate is quite a bit more over the
Years I’ve taught several touring Pros one who’s won a couple of times on the European tour one who’s made over 200 cuts on the US PGA Tour the biggest percentage of my students are older men
Who come to me who now are retired and they belong to a country club and they have plenty of time and money to play the game but all of a sudden the course is too long and they’re amazing to find
Out that they’re hitting it not only good enough to play the course they’re hitting it like they did in their 30s if older gentlemen can do it you younger guys can do it for sure and if you learn
This as a young person you’ll have a swing that’ll last you the rest of your life and if you learn it as an older person you’ll gain back all your power we’re going to change your concept we’re going to
Change the way you understand the golf swing it’s going to be so logical so simple so easy to follow that you’re going to say my goodness I know I can do it now for instance perfect example we want to
Be able to throw the club head through the ball to be able to throw the clubhead through the ball you can’t very well do it if this wrist does not allow it anything this wrist does that one has
To allow as we take our club back we’re going to wind up and move all of our levers into position and stretch the muscles that are going to move it back in the opposite direction your body is going
To provide Power exactly like a bow and arrow does you pull back the string you don’t have to push the arrow forward to make it go matter of fact if you do you’re not going to get much
There’s all of that and a whole lot more to be had in this lesson series thank you for listening to me talk all this time I know you didn’t come here to hear me talk but I can tell you this
I can make this claim to you if you join I will guarantee it 100% if you learn what I’m teaching you when you just give it a little bit of a fair try and you take it from the basics I’m going to
Start you out close to the hole with a chipping motion I’m going to take you to a pitching motion I’m going to take you to a longer pitch and then a little bit longer shot and a longer shot we’re
Going to do all this with your wedge and guess what when you’re done hitting your wedge you’re going to have the swing and when you have the swing you can hit your eight iron you can hit
Your six iron you can hit your three iron if you want to carry one iron you could hit that too and hitting the driver will be easy because the ball is Sitting Duck up there on the tea so these
Are the things that you can and will learn and I guarantee it and I guarantee it because everything will be so simple and so logical that you’ll be able to follow it step by step and become the golfer you’ve always wanted to be give me an opportunity to prove myself thank you for
Listening
