Matt Ganon jur we are back a rare Sunday evening recording maybe we’ll do the Sunday evening recording more often I don’t know but uh we’re doing this because we are going to have boots on the ground this week for the practice rounds at the Players Championship starting on Tuesday and Wednesday so

Very likely we’ll be coming back with another pod uh later this week and then obviously all sorts of stuff going to be up on the site and in the Discord at v.com but the highlight of recording on this Sunday J is that you arrive here with some money in your pocket Scotty

Sheffer a winner at Bay Hill you had it we talked last week on this PO however and you told me you were leaning Rory maroy over Scotty there I didn’t see signs of a Scotty bet coming from you what changed what’ you like about him and how are you feeling yeah early

Monday I I mean we do these pods very early in the week so things change very fastly and yeah I was like quickly thought I would I would like Rory over Scotty for a head-to-head matchup just based on the course history and stuff like that Scotty wasn’t coming in with

The best approach form of his career and then digging into the numbers the Mallet I saw the beard Strokes gain Vibes looked good and went with Scotty 8 to1 got a good number on him and I pulled the trigger and luckily uh cashed some times it is that easy and

You also had Z so the two-man bullet not quite the single bullet would have been extra sweet if it was the single B but but damn close uh there for you and we’ll get into API in a second we’ll get into Puerto Rico we’ll talk a little bit

Of Liv and then preview a little bit of players but now like I said every time they were in the Pod game like And subscribe on whatever uh platform you’re listening on we really appreciate that show some love uh for Matt with his uh hit this week and then uh at Viner golf

About this I think a little bit last time because you had boots on the ground for the practice rounds at PGA National it’s just that little extra Edge so you can get seeing what’s happening and not necessarily even as how you know which players look good or don’t look good I I

Think you definitely get that aspect as well it’s really just how is the course playing and we’ll talk a little bit about s here in a minute but I think there’s some interesting things that boots on the ground is going to help with because there was a big change in

The stats uh at last year’s players versus The Players before and we’ll get into that and we’ll need to be able to see what’s going on there but let’s talk beill Scotty sheffler he switches to the Mallet putter I think I wrote up same uh same brain not uh new putter but same

Brain and uh it turned out that that wasn’t the case The Confidence from the putter carries through and how much did Scotty gain on the greens he gains about 4.4 Strokes putting solid I look at that yet wow negative day one flat day two uh plus 1.5 day three and then today

Plus 3.88 it was really today I mean he obviously played good all three days this week but uh took it into another gear today and played about as Flawless golf as you could possibly have had to be one of the more sweat-free caches of uh your career yeah it was a sweat free

Especially since I had zal all week and but there was never a moment that I was like Scotty is not winning this week even uh Thursday he shot two under and looked like so average he and then s uh Friday I don’t I don’t exactly remember

What he shot but just so didn’t do anything crazy I know he had that good back nine but he was just so like playing normal Golf and I was like damn Scotty’s not even spiking he’s gonna win this [ __ ] and he cashed like La the

Field no one came close to him today so definitely sweat free but I have to say I am lucky that I got that uh good number on Scotty because I wouldn’t have single boled him at seven to one um because s z was my first click and I

Kind of just that number arised on the better golf odds.com check him out if you have access to it and they already paid me out by the way and um I I clicked it so Props to them props to getting that number because he was not

My first click I would not have single bulleted him that week I just wanted to add in that nugget well there you go shout out to uh them they can send over the uh uh advertising dollars for for Matt there giving him a shout out as

Well feel free to send us over some love there uh for that but I’ve heard good things about them as well I don’t know anything personally but people that I trust say good things and that’s always a good sign and like I said the putter increasing in in performance each day

For Scotty and I think the big thing obviously for him is that he can make long putts we’ve seen him make long putts in in plenty of tournaments it was the difference between making the five to 10 foot putts feeling confident on the four-footers and there was a stretch

Of those today um he was still hitting it fine he wasn’t I don’t think at Scotty Peak like ball striking it was still really really good for the most part and I think it was especially good today but he had a string of holes where he had either long approach putts or he

Was having to scramble and make those forward to eight Footers and those ones for him usually obviously he’s going to make a good chunk of those but he misses just enough to keep him from from winning tournaments they lip out they don’t fall but all those ones were going

Right in the middle and he just looked so much more confident uh on the short short putts with the Mal yeah 100% And on Thursday and Friday he missed two plus inside four feet and I know we talk in the group chat we say Scotty and all

Caps just whenever he misses that uh those four Footers and that did happen this week he missed those few putts and I was like all right more the same lost a lot of money on Scotty this week but uh he bucked up on Friday afternoon Saturday and Sunday with those putts

Inside five foot because he’s gonna give himself so many chances he’s gonna maybe miss one or two five Footers but he can’t have those weeks where he’s missing four to six five foot putts every single week because those are just massive Strokes that he’ll never get

Back yeah and uh at this point I think we have to call Scotty Scotty the southern golfer because we go through his list of tournaments that he has won now on the PGA tour uh Phoenix obviously in the South not not the true South but the south southern part of the country

On all of these is not necessarily what you would Define as a South but everything in the southern part of the country here Phoenix API uh the match play in Texas the Masters obviously in Georgia Phoenix again players API when the tournament’s in the South that’s apparently when the Scotty gets

Confident worth the part you got to throw in the memorial too though because he pretty much won that you had him so he probably will win that this this coming year but it is crazy that Scotty has all those wins down in Florida and in this part of the country and uh lost

In the playoff at the Charles Schwab another Texas tournament so uh if you’re going to single bullet Scotty uh the weeks when the tournaments are playing down south obviously a time to get a look he’s obviously comfortable on these Southern grasses the Bermuda things like that so obviously the question becomes

Because Scotty wins this week and I said on uh Friday evening I got some beers with our boys BK and Diva we were in the city we were hanging out Friday night we were watching the end of the golf there’s a five-way tie for the lead

There’s all sorts of names up there near the top of the leaderboard and I looked at and I said Wendy gives me the most confidence honestly actually at this point just because it’s he’s been the closer in these in these moments lately and then obviously Scotty you know he’s

Going to hang in there it’s just a matter of can he keep this putting going and I was you know I said this before the weekend I still believed it until today pretty much that the putter was going to cool down at some point like I thought it was more mental than Mallet

Versus Blade we’ve seen him try the Mallet before like I think mental is obviously a bigger piece of it but uh that helps you get the mental side when you feel confident over the Putter and now it becomes and I said at that moment if he does win I think he’s going

To win the players easily because the level of confidence that it’s going to give him like the only we’ve talked Forever on everybody’s talked Forever on podcast writeups you name it if you follow golf in any way shape or form it’s when if Scotty could do this he

Would win every single tournament he would win eight tournaments a year and okay he did it this week does that to you point to a sign that this is going to be the big breakout year where Scotty wins five six times wins a major maybe wins two majors maybe defends the

Players like is what happened this week make you think that or are you did you think that before kind of what’s your of the land on Scotty I agree I agree with you and we’ve seen him win in bunches in his career so I totally think that makes

Sense and even elite players do that Rah last year went a a tangent where he won a few in a few weeks so I don’t really necessarily think he’s going to win the players but I do think we will see a major and then maybe a win in between

Then or a few wins in between in between that stretch so do you would you say that he looks a lot more confident with that what looks a lot more confident and comfortable with the mall in his hand versus the blade because I mean I

Watched a lot of the golf I was there in person on Thursday he looked comfortable I know that the putter was a little longer just looked a lot more athletic and comfortable over the putts than he usually stands a bit like sturdy and uh doesn’t look great over it do you agree

He did look more I guess in an athletic position over it like he was bent over a little bit more it was to me it wasn’t just the switch from the blade to the Mallet that caused him to putt well this week he it appeared he did some other

Things like with his setup obviously the Mallet driving that but I think uh you know everybody’s just going to say it was switch of the Mallet I’m sure there’s other things he did in his setup in an approach that helped he moved it up a little bit in his stance and uh

Took the sight line off and added an inch to the putter which is I guess did the chick and what’ll be interesting to see is he’s obviously putted well on these greens once before when he won the tournament last time putted well on these greens I now I didn’t think you’d putt

This well this week so but my take you know judge it for what it is I’ll need to see him putting on greens where he hasn’t putted well before or areas of the country where he struggled to putt before I’m ready to declare anything fixed you know it’s one week let’s see

What happens but that’s what scares me about players is that he won Players last year barely putting good at all he bar he would have won solely off of his teer green play and this week he almost would have won off of he actually didn’t

Even need to putt that well this week to have won this tournament because of his te to Green game so I mean I hope he doesn’t like I’m not going to bet him at Players the odds are going to go down terrible like it’s not a bet but I just

Think he’s obviously such a tier above everybody else on the PGA tour now we talked about the range of Despair last week the klays the Zan the ludvigs the havland first of all Wendy C should be honestly the name that comes up most of the time when we’re talking about who’s

That next tier of player like he is who we think Xander and Klay are that Wendy is actually that guy and almost even hland like he’s almost he’s more proven at this we’s got a major than hin and but outside of that when the TD green play gets cooking like this Scotty

Doesn’t need to gain a lot putting he just needs to not lose a lot putting and that’s where I’m afraid this will give him the ability to do that just be completely flat and that’s all he needs to dominate these type of events yeah and going into the players last year I

Was like I don’t really think it’s the best course fit for him there’s going to be a lot more wedges than there are normal big events and that while that is true he is just on a different level with all of his clubs at least 13 of his

Clubs and it’s just like it doesn’t matter Scotty’s gonna [ __ ] here Scotty’s gonna [ __ ] again this year I like I don’t think he’s going to win I’m not going to bet him like like we said but he just looks so Flawless from Tea Green like everyone’s missing the fairways at Bay

Hill because they’re firming up and Scotty’s just taking the three-wood and carrying it 235 with a little bit of a run out and it just in the M like you couldn’t place it more in the middle it’s just yeah I was about to comment on the three-wood because that’s he you

That back not like it I thought beill also not to have aside was a very good setup this week totally totally fair uh players who obviously anytime Scotty wins by this much it’s actually a sign of how fair the course is playing because it’s pointing so much to the TA green aspect

Like him playing so well and then wind being second I think are all positive signs about the course but he you can score on the front nine of beill if you get at cooking but then that back nine is where really where you got a locked in we saw that with zot

Tores yesterday where you got off to a good start and then just got eaten alive by the back nine so even today Scotty got off to that great start and going to The Back N I still said let’s see what happens let’s see you know because he

Hasn’t it had been so long since he pulled away you know he’s been in this situation so many times talk about we’ve been talking about it and so but he took that three-wood out and just planted it in the middle of the Fairway on every single hole and that’s all he needed to

Do because he knew once he had gotten to 12 11 that range that he was on the winning number as long as he didn’t [ __ ] it up and that three-w such a weapon for him yeah that was it was so impressive because he doesn’t really do that often

Like because he’s a very aggressive player takes the driver a lot so that’s a part of the game that he’ll probably use at uh sass although he can just be super aggressive and hit the fairways with the driver but if he gets off to a good start gets off to another lead and

Just cruises with that three-wood again it’s just look out yeah so we’ll talk players here in a moment we’ll talk a little bit more Scotty but uh if we’ve all sat here and said we’re waiting for the breakout moment from Scotty it would be one thing

If he didn’t switch his putter if he had putted well this week with the old putter I’d be like oh flash in the pan this is nothing new it’s the confidence that he can get from making the change and having it work because that’s just

Like it’s like the uh yeah it’s like in Men In Black it’s like he just had the thing flashed in front of his eyes and he can forget everything that’s happened before and just say new putter this is what I needed all along boom I’ve got the confidence now and so that’s

Why for the for the golf better I hope that he doesn’t go on this massive run and starts winning everything for the golf fan it would be kind of sick if he did that like what’s your take on on that aspect I I totally agree and I’m I

Was with my friends all week and they’re golf fans but not big golf fans and they were like yeah this is good for the PJ tour and like we’ve said you need the Underdog Story is great but you need your stars to shine and although we had

A great leaderboard and we didn’t have a dramatic finish but the star one of them shined not uh some of them were very pathetic but the star of the PGA Tour shined and did what he had to do and uh good good for the tour good for the game

I think but like I’ll second what you said as a better I’d hope he doesn’t go on this uh this gigger run which could be inevitable and let’s get to more of the leaderboard because obviously as we say every week we want to recap kind of have

A feel for the takes that we gave last week which ones are hanging true which ones aren’t and as I said after that second round we had that big tie up top of the leaderboard there’s a bunch of guys in the mix going into the weekend Windham Clark finishes second uh as I

Said I think it’s like we overthink it when it comes to wyc we look at the I we talked about him last week you asked me what I thought about him I said I was out because of what the stats were saying I think we’re at the point with

Him where if it’s a big tournament and he’s 60 50 to one or above you just bet it because the stats don’t Matter’s a new golfer this year he’s a new golfer these last uh 12 months 14 months like he has became an elite and I agree with

What you’re said n we keep getting these good numbers but he’s changed he’s got dog he’s changed into a better player if the course m fit makes even somewhat sense I’m down like I thought the course made so much sense for Windam this past week but the course history was so bad

I’m like throw it away he’s better now and it almost paid off yeah I mean he just plays I was uh with a buddy this weekend and he had Clark rewatching the final round uh together so we were talking about him and it’s like and he

Was you know kind of upset because of how many mistakes Clark was making during over the weekend and things like that but at the same time Clark was making more birdies and Eagles than anyone else in the field for a good chunk of that event he just comes into

These difficult courses these tough tournaments and says I’m gonna just send it full like bore on every single hole it’s G to cost me Bogies but I know I’m going to make birdies because when it does work out it’s really going to work out and he just plays with such aggress aggressive

And such confidence and he does it with the putter too he just puts with aggression he putts with confidence it’s it’s the same thing we can sit here and talk about Brooks in the majors and I think Clark has is on a trajectory similar to Brooks where you

Throw out the stats when he shows up and if you’re going to give a mass like why would you you anyone ever bet and and I’m speaking to myself in like in general here Klay Xander those type of guys instead of Clark what what evidence

Do we have to support that that would be the right thing to do uh Strokes gained that’s our evidence but it’s [ __ ] though because like like I say with Adam Scott like great Strokes gain numbers every single week and like what the hell is he doing like nothing so yeah I

Totally agree with you and I feel like you and I are getting a really good like feel for like and it’s really showing this year like guys who are going to get it guys who want it because Pat and Xander and these guys have every single

Avenue to step up and be that next top player in the world with every all the elite players going to list and they’re the same old [ __ ] I mean that could change in the next few weeks buta it probably won’t and if it does it’s still not like a good deal that

You’re getting now if can’t layer Xander goes to like 30 to one maybe it’s like okay that it’s because of the Gap in price between Windam and those guys that makes it such a no-brainer that you would bet like it just from here on out when we see those numbers especially to

Your point in a course where there’s a distance bias if you look at the stat and it says distance bias don’t worry about how many strokes gained approach or whatever windom’s doing how’s it just say it’s a distance bias course Windom you know what’s weird about you talked

About odds drifting like we see golfers like Justin Thomas Jordan spe odds drift all the time and not that they’re like prolific winners but they’re like Elites of the game Xander and pat their odds never drift and they’re not like prolific winners it’s so odd it’s just

So weird it’s cuz it’s it’s what I said after Jenny it said every time you open the profile you’re going to be on the website you’re going to open it up you’re going to see Xander and can’t lay and you’re going to be like this the most it’s green everywhere strok SK

Perfection and that’s just not what happens in these tournaments and we have to burn that into our brains because I think it’s so easy to say that and then you start thinking about who you’re going to bet and you’re like oh these numbers like we got to do it and Vibes

Not not even Vibes just like performance on other similar types of events and other types of courses like if it’s a big dick event take the guys who are big dick players Shane Lowry we talked about him last week and uh we said he wasn’t a big dick

Player we saw him kind of collaps down the stretch at PJ Nash he uh it’s not his fault that Scotty absolutely blew his doors off this week I thought Lowry looked pretty good and actually today he was hitting better iron shots than Scotty because he had to be more

Aggressive because Scotty was just taking it easy uh Larry to me I was happy with his performance and I’ve got nothing but positive takeaways from what shamer out of the table this week yeah he got off to a slow start which is whatever like that’s going to happen in

The final group and then he definitely bucked up and did what he had to do to put a a decent round today but the numbers look really good for Larry he seems to really be liking these Florida golf courses these last few years so um should travel well into uh TPC Sawgrass

This week similar style golf to what we saw at PGA National he seems a little confident but maybe uh get him a little a few Strokes back in the final round rather than in the lead because the last few weeks haven’t gone well for him yeah

And a quick note on l in a second but I was just going to say before I forget last week’s top overlap of top 10 overlaps was TPC Sawgrass and Bill obviously we’ve seen what Scotty’s done at Bill we’ve seen what Scotty’s done at Saw Grass we saw a couple years ago and

It was Des Shambo and Westwood down the stretch at Bay Hill they came to players and they were in the final group together like don’t over there’s a lot of next week that goes into don’t overthink it did they play well last a guy who played

Terrible at beay Hill is no matter what happens with their odds to me is not a player that’s like oh he’s going to figure it out at uh Saw Grass because where the rough eats you up at Bay Hill like you drive in the rough on certain

Holes you literally cannot hit it on the green it is impossible it’s the same [ __ ] at Saw Grass because you’re either in the water or in the trees or in some crazy like little depression that pops up on the side of the fairways so just a

Quick note to say don’t ever think it if a guy played well this week and you like him I mean sometimes it’s it’s just that simple but yeah Shane overall uh besides sass too I was talking to uh my buddy today Mike and keep your eyes on him Augusta not to

Win but Shane always plays well at Augusta I’ve met him before Augusta he played well uh in this type of form in a major Shane Lowry if the odds are reasonable for you know top 10 top 20 don’t think he can win but I like Shane

There and that takes us to a guy who will be on everybody’s uh mind when we come to Augusta and your boy you bet him you’ve been talking him up for weeks it looked really really good there for about what’s 36 plus n 45 holes for

Wills Alat torus this week and then the wheels came off a little bit uh he’s your guy so I’ll let you take the first crack at how we assess Will’s performance and how you’re thinking about yeah I definitely want to uh Pat myself on the back for this one because

I remember in the uh pre-season show preseason show we talked about uh we we were like I was like a bay Hill’s a spot for Wills Al tourus I him up for beill I think that’s the return and showed some good signs coming into there and played

Really well so I’m definitely happy that he played well happy that I bet him I know he didn’t win but uh overall great go from willly Z looks a lot more comfortable out there looks a lot more healthy uh putter kind of let him down today he made nothing zero putts today

And a few bad his interview yesterday he said I made three bad swings and it cost me five shots so is what it is that’s golf but uh the ceiling is high for will he’s playing good golf this is I couldn’t be happier with him uh right

Now than from what we saw from him a few months ago so oh yeah it’s willly Z I’m happy yeah and that you reminded me of a VI clap I can do I forgot I think I said Scotty uh beay Hill on the season one

And done preview so Mark me down Mark me down I think I think I had a camera sure a Vic lap there but yeah I think one thing that stands out for zor and he talked about it on Friday is he went to the he shortened his driver he had gone

To a long driver uh back before because he wanted to send it now that’s bad for his back so he shortened up the driver and he’s just driving it so well he was second in the field off the te this week we know the infamous right Miss for Zs

Not as much in play anymore uh as it used to be looks like he’s got more control with the driver and we know if he’s in the Fairway he’s going to hit the green and every now and then he’s going to stuff it in there and hit good

Shots yeah so the ball striking clearly back I am still not I mean he puted what’s he puted he looks a lot more comfortable with that putter there’s it’s a fluent stroke which is all that matters like I’m he’s hitting it straight he’s not wiggling it back like it looks good

Under Pressure yeah I just think at this point and and I was BK and I were debating this a little bit and this Z’s not been I guess on tour enough to declare him a winner or a loser but I think he gets a slight pass like he’s up there a reasonable amount

And he never wins now he’s gotten beat in some tough situations before but his only win is the FedEx St Jude at this point and he was gifted that by sep straa after completely handing it to sep sep said no let me give it back to you

When when Z is tied for first and I’m as a neutral who’s not on him just watching the tournament no part of me goes oh this is Z’s tournament to lose or Z’s the Killer and then he gets ahead by five this week and it was just gone in

The snap of a fingers yeah he talked about too before he was like I’m done with second placees like that’s my mindset coming in I’m not gonna fault him I I’m not gonna say he’s not a winner like he could easily win tournaments soon it’s just I think he

Gets a pass versus other guys who we [ __ ] on all the time saying they were up there they didn’t win Z kind of slides under the radar even though he also doesn’t win yeah I think it’s too early for to say that and but this major

Season will be a good uh judgment on that exact take so I I want to see if he’s in the mix at a few Majors even if it’s just one or two uh doesn’t completely eject looks solid down the stretch I think we will have a better

Grasp on that take is are you betting him in Augusta is is you locked or what’s they called there I haven’t got that far yet I’m not I’m not a big futures guy so interesting so because you were dead set on him here at Bay Hill for weeks and you’re bringing the

Confidence you’re not quite there at that confidence level for Augusta but I do think if we get him in Houston we stick to the game plan and we absolutely uh unload in Houston if he plays there I mean yeah like I I mean I like him in uh

At uh Augusta obviously but I’m not going to say that I’m going to bet him I honestly wasn’t even 100% sure I was going to bet him going into the week because I wasn’t sure what where the market was going to be on him where he’s

Going to be in the 20s was everyone going to be on him and I was shocked at how like unpopular he was he was he was like there was some people on him but I thought he was going to be one of the most bet guys the entire week one of the

Highest owned players in DFS like I had him in my lineup this week he was like 133% owned which I was very shocked about so paid off I mean if Z’s gonna lead the field in driving accuracy which he did this week he h 71% of Fairways

That to me is almost as meaningful as of an improvement as the putter because he he’s never been a like he’s a bad putter but he’s never been horrific and he’s putted good in big events a lot of times it was that driver and the inability to

Hit the Fairway when he needed it uh that cost him winning some of those tournaments like honestly I think you can point to multiple of those that were just he couldn’t get the ball in the Fairway when he needed to get us open being the at Brook line being one that

He he wins that tournament if he’s putting the ball in the Fairway every hole in the back nine uh driver the shorter driver so and I think that’s interesting to watch too going to sass which is of course where you know the accuracy again is going to be powerful

And uh I don’t see any reason why Saw Grass can’t be a course that uh Z plays well out do do you what’s your player thought on S would do you think that’s no I’m I’m I’m out on him I don’t I don’t really see I know he’s had two

Back-to-back good starts but uh doesn’t really strike me as a course I mean I’ve bet him at Players too much just when that was when I was betting Z like damn near every week but uh yeah not necessarily I don’t really love it let me see his course history is here

Because I think I’ve been him here once before 21 t26 73rd his ball striking has been good it’s the putter that’s let him down at uh sagas will so we it’ll be interesting to see uh how the putter translates for him here and then just some names down the board tagala I was

On tees this week you saw te you had boots on the ground there getting a good look at teags on Thursday uh the driver for teags is good fourth in the field off the tea again like he’s got this goto low Drive where he’s hitting it like 40 feet Apex and

It’s just rolling four days did you see it in person did it was oh yeah we we had him first round leader so we were following him for a little bit and uh like we always say if he’s driving in the Fairway he’s Off to the Races his

Ceiling is high badby like he played so well and he made a double on number seven every day also and it’s it’s so the margins are so small with this guy like he hit this shot on seven was at the flag it was literally could have

Been a kick in birdie just barely didn’t cover that lip on number seven in the bunker bladed it over the green ended up making double but he is so close so talented and this is a golf course sress where you got to play out of the Fairway

And thues is a wild driver usually but the past few weeks he’s figured it out off the te Club down hit that little low iron or but he’s he’s got that new driver driver is is sick he’s hitting this low fade and it like he hit one on

18 on Thursday they showed on the broadcast it was like 45 ft of Apex it rolled out 77 yards he was like a 100 yards past I think sunj or whoever he was playing with because it just rolled for days and but C numbers yeah but it

Was the double bogey he made a double bogey the one you saw on Thursday he hit in he was in the Fairway bunker on 11 on uh Friday just like don’t do something stupid from there dunks it in the water from there like 120 out and then
