We’ve got breaking news from the NFL the New England Patriots are trading quarterback Mack Jones to the Jacksonville Jaguars for a sixth round draft pick our Insider Jonathan Jones reports the Patriots were expected to take a quarterback at number three in the draft next month ship Jones back to
His hometown of Jacksonville where he will back up Trevor Lawrence Jones’s career got off to a promising start after getting drafted 15th overall in 2021 finishing second in offensive Rookie of the Year voting but it all went downhill from there ultimately leading to his benching last season in favor of Bailey
Zappy let’s bring in our NFL Insider Jonathan Jones to discuss this first JJ your initial reaction to the news here that Jones is set to become a Jaguar so Jacksonville was really the only team with a legitimate offer out there for M Jones so other teams may
Have had some interest if you’re going to give us MC Jones for bag of chips but Jacksonville a six round pick had been discussed I believe they’re still exactly ironing out those details and this trade will of course go through on Wednesday but not a surprise at all that
MC Jones’s tenure in New England is ending I think that that was very clear back in December that that was going to be uh the last that we were going to see of M Jones in New England uh in the 2023 season and to go to somewhere like Jacksonville where there is an
Entrenched starter uh that he is not going to um you know intimidate or threaten uh where everyone knows that Trevor Warren the number one overall pick from a couple of years ago is the guy it makes uh some sense that hopefully mck who his issues were really
Kind of between the ears last year uh that he can get out of New England that he gets a change of scenery not only a change of scenery but as you know Jeremy his hometown of Jacksonville Florida and so there will be some familiarity as well as as some comfortability uh
Probably more importantly and so I think that this could be a very good fit for M Jones and he goes to a coach who is renowned for working with quarterbacks very well Doug Peterson now what does this move mean for for Jones overall I mean because now he goes from being a
Round one pick to looking like it’s going to be a career backup rule for him well and look we’ve seen this before where quarterbacks who were a top pick and then they have to go and uh resuscitate their career somewhere and take a couple of years maybe uh and then
Wait for their opportunity and so this is what it was going to be for M Jones there was really no chance that he was going to be a week one starter on any of the 32 teams with the tape that was out there on him I mean really there was no
Way that it was going to happen so he had to have prepared himself for this eventuality I’m going to have to go somewhere uh where I will be at best qb2 uh probably Battle For That uh in training camp and then if and when he gets his opportunity go out there and
Prove uh that he has recuperated as a starting quarterback you know uh there’s not going to be uh any really beyond that he’s probably going to sign a new deal uh in 2025 elsewhere but you know he has to get through 24 first so um
That is what I see for Matt Jones right now it’s all about just trying to prove that he is not the broken quarterback that we saw in the second half of this past season and uh looking at the latest mock draft from Ryan Wilson he has the Patriots taking JJ McCarthy not sure
McCarthy’s going to go that high but in terms of the Patriots what’s next for them is this a need that they that they address in the draft do you think JJ or do they maybe look at something in free agency well they can do both Jeremy they
Can absolutely go out there uh in a couple of days and sign a veteran quarterback a jacobe brassett uh perhaps a Joe flacko if he doesn’t return turn to Cleveland uh those would be two of the top veteran quarterback options out there maybe Sam darnold with his
Familiarity in that Division and then of course you can go out and draft someone with the number three overall pick the Patriots of course like anyone who’s drafting in the top three think well we’re not going to be back here anytime soon so let’s go ahead and get that guy
For the future there at number three there of course will be teams that are going to be willing to trade up you can talk about the Las Vegas Raiders you can talk about the Denver Broncos the Minnesota Vikings all grouped there in that sort of 12 to 14 15ish range could
They try to go up and get that quarterback in the top three perhaps but um you know a couple of schools of thought still plenty of time to determine that but I wouldn’t at all be surprised if they go out and get a veteran quarterback in free agency in a
Couple days and then of course that certainly would not preclude them no matter who that veteran is from going out and drafting a quarterback in the first round our NFL Insider Jonathan Jones joining us to discuss the breaking news the New England Patriots set to trade quarterback M Jones to the
Jacksonville Jaguars for a sixth round pick thanks JJ and of course JJ on top of all of this stuff as we get free agency approaching this week as we take a look at the first-round quarterbacks from that 2021 draft I mean other than Trevor Lawrence I don’t know if you can
See any of these guys panned out we know the Zach Wilson situation with the Jets hasn’t been ideal Trey Lance the Niners I mean Justin Fields could he be the next quarterback traded lots of rumors about what Chicago is planning to do because they have the number one overall
Pick and M Jones we know his future it’s going to be part of the Jacksonville Jaguars there a backup to Trevor Lawrence for this coming season

Pats did Jones a solid since Belichick screwed him over
wow 6th round lol .. nothing to lose
The 2021 QB Draft class has to be one of the most disappointing in NFL History
this makes no sense at all
As advertised…Mac Jones got none to zero future in Foxboro, MA.
Knew Jones was going to fall when his first year he was making himself out to be Patriot's next Brady even playing word games with Tom!!
I can't believe Mac Jones is basically worthless. This year and every year there are at least a handful of teams whose QB situation is terrible. Only one of them is getting Kick Cousins. Maybe one or two draft prospects will turn out good. I wouldn't be surprised if Mac Jones is better than half of the QB in the draft this year. Teams are just scared to have a legitimate QB competition on the roster. Learn from the 49ers and roll the dice at least twice a year until you roll a 6.
Mac got fucked by the Pats. 3 OCs and a Belichick in 3 years. He’s not as bad as everyone thinks
He was only ever a 5th or 6th round talent anyway so it's appropriate. Now he'll be replaced in NE by another 5th round talent that the Pats are going to reach for.
The Jags now have a solid backup, good trade.
Really not worth a six round pick 6 😂
😂😂😂😂😂
They are making it sound as if a 6th round pick is a real prize! 70% of players drafted in that round don’t make it onto a team!
Happy Jones is in a better place for him, hope you’re joking about JJ McCarthy LOL. From Jones that should not have been a round 1 pick, please look at Tua’s stats with the same receivers at the same time to another QB that does not look like he has shown he will be an NFL starter. Michigan is a great team, like Alabama was, McCarthy did not show he was an NFL QB.If you gave 100 people that watch football the choice between May, Daniel’s or McCarthy a choice if even one person (Other than Michigan students and grads) would choose McCarthy. At least he’s young, a lot of work to make him an average NFL QB.
Should've gotten nothing less fourth round but glad to see him gone. I would love to draft Marvin Harrison jr. and get Kurt Cousins sign another proven receiver and with the defense we compete for the AFC
NE isn’t drafting JJ crap McCarthy
I love the grounded reality of this channel!!, it's a great joy I no longer depend on Government Grant since i earn $60,000 every 27days.
"A bag of chips," lmao
oh my God I hate that kid. and I don't hate people. But that kid did so much damage if I were in charge I would have sued him for the money that he got on the rookie deal.
Good pick up should be an upgrade over cj betherad, and at worst he could push trevor lawrence to cut down on his turnover.
horrible, POS QB
The jets don’t need a receiver they need an OL or a TE
Pederson needs a "Nick Foles" for T-Law's "Carson Wentz." lol
I wonder why SF didn't give up a 6th for a player they "could win multiple super bowls with"
What a stupid trade by Baalke. That man continues to screw things up.
this is actually hilarious lmao
Even a roach is more valuable than Mac Jones at this point 😅
Ryan Wilson needs to be fired if he has McCarthy that high
Revelation 3:2
Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God.
Caleb to patriots.
Jayden Daniels you are a Patriot
LOL, who projected JJ McCarthy 3rd overall, his parents?
Ouch…..Backing up the guy from your draft class has to suck….at least its the #1 pick…Vikings need to go for Trey Lance and see what he's really got
Typical Bama qb. Overrated out of college because he's surrounded by the best o line and skill players. NFL exposes the Bama duds. Hurts had an anomaly of a year and came back to the ground this past year. The Miami guy finally had looked inconsistently good with probably the best wr in the league (and pretty bad when the receiver has been out with injury). The other Bama qbs in recent decades have looked consistently bad. Mccarron and macelroy come to mind.
I bet Jacksonville flips jones
Good luck in Jacksonville, Mac Jones
I'm happy new england patriots rid of Mac Jones he sucks too
JJ McCarthy is terrible!
He shouldn’t be a Day 1 or Day 2 Draft Pick.
A career backup at best.
His 2024 season will probably be better than his 2023 season.
Reason: he'll get some playing time, and the Jags have a much better roster (than the Pats).
Best move so far, it was time to get him gone
I mean he got one of the best back up jobs available 😂
J.J. is coming to the Pats. McCarthy!!!
Why should the Pats pick a QB that beat Alabama his last game? 😅 Because it'll probably wirk again , maybe not 6 SB wins, but better than Mac.
Mac was garbage thank god he gone
It takes Lawrence one game out from injury, or getting yanked in a blowout, paired with one good game from Jones and it could all come back. Remember Mariota/ Tannehill, or Tannehill/Levis?
LMAOOOO 6trh round? LMAOOOO what a waste of a 1st round pick….although in draft history most 1st rnd QB picks are busts…….
"comfortability", huh? A journalist.. really?
Jags is short for jaguars
Let’s keep it a buck Belichick failed jones after Josh left. By making Matt his Offensive Coordinator. He’s in a much better situation now and with Lawerance recent injury issues. This was a no brainer choice. Especially getting jones for a 6th round pick.!!
