Were going to do this when we all got together and just I told him you know life’s about hard work and all I know is hard work cuz that’s how my family raised me um and that’s what we did you know we got up early in the morning we worked

Out early in the morning um they kept coming back for more we kept getting better and better and better and you know I’ve been doing this for a long time and you know I’ve won I’ve been to one one seed in the region now this is

My seventh year as a head coach in junior college and I’m seven for seven but this one means the most um to myself and um just these fans my players this wonderful College wonderful Community um I’m just really really proud of these guys because you know I could tell we’re we’ve been playing

Stressed like we don’t have anyone in that locker room that’s won a championship in college you know so we were we’ve been playing a little stressed and um the buttons I’m trying to push haven’t they they haven’t been working um as well as maybe sometimes when I’ve

Tried some things but what a second half to be down at halftime I didn’t even I wasn’t upset at halftime I just felt like we were stressed and I was like we just got a guard um um you know and I cut I just played eight guys in the second half

And you know kind of cut down the rotation and those guys I mean to go from the 17 20 17 1703 in the second to 323 in the second without allowing a field goal you go 26 to three run against State Fair between their field goals that’s amazing um you know we just

Locked into the controllables um and and what we’re about and we’re about def defense and you know to be the one seed and to compete for a region championship at home in front of our own awesome fans it’s just a dream come true in in year one and um it’s an awesome

Everybody’s watching that video so we had to get better um at you know in those areas and just better just getting back to that’s what who we are we we are a defense first team and we got to be more physical on the glass and we got to

Run and transition off our defense and get us some easy baskets U off our defense and then you know execute and we’re a lot better in the second half executing than we are in the first half cuz the ball’s at the other end of the Court um but that’s something that we’re

Going to continue to improve on um you know we got we got a whole week to practice before we play again so um you know we got to get I know what areas we got to get better at our players know what areas we got to get better at and

We just got to do it together um this week and on top of that rest our B minds and bodies and take care of some academics uh you know as well um this week with having a full week just saw Marcus Watson coming out of the wait

Room on in crutches and in a boot coach could you provide an update on Watson I know he took a fall hard down here to our left at the end of this game I I I have not got an update yet um I to be

Honest with you I went in talked to the team and was just so excited and was going to do this interview and then go check on Watson so I’m not I’m not sure uh maybe Joe can give us that real quick Joe what’s the update on Watson an pretty good high

Ankle okay pretty good high ankle sprain so um you know we’ll be monit monitoring him um all week and hopefully his conditioning don’t suffer too much but he’s a tough young man and um I know he wants to play and uh so he will you know

Be rehabbing around the clock um to get him back cuz he’s a super important piece to the puzzle I’m sorry for putting you on the spot coach I was unaware that you did not know my apologies oh that’s okay um I I got a couple more for you before I let you go

Last year year and a half to to be able to come here in your first year and get this opportunity to win the the regular season Championship to get the top seat in the tournament I know I ask what it means for you to get that but reflecting

On what you’ve gone through over the last 18 months what does this mean for you I mean I can’t put I can’t put words into just all the emotions that I have because of I mean the average person has no idea half of what half of what’s even

And I wish I could tell everyone and people would be amazed that we’re even you know yeah the number one seed and uh it’s you know what God God works in mysterious ways and wonderful ways but I want to you know thank Dr G and um Jim

And Mike and Briley and Julie sheets and and the whole committee the whole hiring committee um that was a part of hiring me and you know went out and you know at that time it was a big risk for anyone just because of how the national media

Portrayed me and if if you get to know me you know um about as happy go-lucky as as they come and relaxed as ever off the court and just a competitor on the court and um a winner on the court and you know I hold young men accountable at

A high level and um so it’s just I mean I I’m this is my proudest moment as a coach and uh you know it’s going to the the opportunity only gets bigger as we move forward and uh you know I I told these guys after the mobile e

Game this is the hardest I’ve worked as a head coach with any team that I’ve ever had um you know and and they’ve keep coming back for more they’ve you know they’re the ones that that are are working hard I’m just the ones coming up with the the like my

Daughter asked me dad do you teach here do you do lesson plans cuz after the sophomore day when they said their favorite teacher was me so I go over there and my daughter goes dad you teach classes here I said no I teach basketball she said well you’ve never

Done a lesson plan then I said I do a lesson plan every single day it’s called a practice plan it’s the same thing as a lesson plan and and uh my wife was just looking at like yeah he does teach he teach he teaches these guys every single day the

Stuff people don’t see that pays off out here right yes yes you know and uh you know the long hours of watching video and putting putting videos together and watching you know I’ve been still I’ve been studying Yukon I study Houston defense Yukon offense um and show clips

To our guys um of of you know different colleges and how they play and and um you know all that so uh yeah there’s a lot that goes into it that you know people don’t people don’t get to see but uh you know tomorrow you know my wife’s sister’s a

Head coach at Illinois so they play in the you know I’m from Iowa and they’re playing the Hawkeyes in Carver so my wife and I and daughter are getting up in the morning and driving to Iowa City and uh coach green has us great seats

Behind the bench and uh so we get to go see uh her team play against Caitlyn Clark and the Caitlyn Clark Show and I know she’s uh we’ve been you know texting and communicating um she’s asked I just can’t wait to to watch her um do

Her thing and and she you know she’s from Iowa too and you know my wife and her are from Clinton Iowa so uh tomorrow’s going to be a lot of fun and uh this just made this this tonight tomorrow even even better even better I’m not going to lie so uh I’m just
