Masters you draft once before the master starts you get Masters PJ Championship US Open and the Open Championship you have to survive each of the majors with the teams that you have drafted we’re going to run through some strategies we’re going to run through the draft itself show you you can or incorporate

Carry that success onto the bestall streets and I I cosign your take that someone needed to do best ball for golf someone needed to do it well under dog is crushing it excited to hop into these drafts so you played this last year right the major season one and done or

The one just one and done the major season best ball yes so first experience last year it it was not a profitable experience though it was a fun one uh but a learning experience for for me as far as setting our rankings that established the run a learning process

For the draft strategy hopefully can carry over some of that stuff that we learned from last year into this year and maybe have a little bit more success but you know golf is a very very random sport I think we can take advantage of of that here in this format but uh you

Know hopefully hopefully have a little bit more of uh profitability this season that’d be nice so what things did you learn from last year and like we can spell out the rules we’ll do that in a second we’ll do a draft and then Cody and I actually did a draft before we

Came on so I’ll even Chuck that at the end the first ever one that I did into the big Albatross so there’s two uh big contests up on Underdog right now one is the let me shout over to here so you can get in there I mean there’s ones every

Going to guarantee a certain number of money up at top but what I want to know is like what should I just straight up avoid Cody to start things off because we discussed some few strategies but knowing where not to make mistakes off the Hop I think is going to be very

Important yeah I think going back to like the play the best plays days of DFS is a great starting point for this type of content this type of contest where it’s still very much brand new not a lot of content not a lot of strategy around

It so most people are not most people but some people are still making just very basic mistakes if we canid those very basic mistakes we can give ourselves a slight Advantage just from the very beginning I think number one trying to project out or find somebody that is projecting out how many majors

Each guy is going to play and which majors they’re going to play and obviously not every golfer on the PGA tour is qualified for these events so you TR try to need to find out who is qualified for what and can they also get qualified for other ones if they aren’t

Already qualified right so very obviously at the beginning guys like Scotty Rory John Ron Victor H just based off of criteria from last season or official World Golf Ranking these types of guys are going to be qualified for every major almost regardless of what happens the rest of the way they’re

Either already in or simply based off of official World Golf Ranking they will be in by some sort of exemption it gets a little bit trickier further down the board where golfers in round six seven8 nine may not all be qualified for four majors that’s okay you can draft some

Golfers that aren’t qualified for four majors but try to project forward what you know how do they qualify for all four it’s going to be very very important to have them playing all four majors I think about it like by weeks in the NFL just imagine if you could draft

Every single player every week they they all play 17 weeks they all have one bye what if all of the sudden you were drafting a player that had four by- weeks right you’re sacrificing so much so much potential points that it simply doesn’t make sense to draft them so you

Need to have good reason to do so step number one is just identifying which golfers are going to play which majors and do they have the potential to play more Majors so from there well this is this is something I can actually help out with because this is a brand new

National so shout out to uh Jack humph for putting this all together for us this was something he was doing on an Excel sheet we were able to put it onto the site so you can just go to the Masters um and you can kind of look up the

Players in real time that you want in the search bar to see if they’re qualified for all these events so you have the Masters right here hey ludvig is in that he’s in for the PGA Championship has he qualified for the US Open uh no ludvig has not qualified for

The US Open as of yet but being so high in the world rankings he should almost be guaranteed his spot but that’s not official until it actually becomes official so you can see the guys that have actually qualified for these events be it the Olympics the Open Championship

Were only concerned about the four Majors right now poor B Anka he is uh that doesn’t even sound like a real player I don’t even know who this guy is uh that’s a Crea name potentially or apparently he’s real he is not qualified for any of the major championships right

Now but that’s one of the tools that we really wanted to implement before going into best ball season was you could see who was literally qualified as of the moment for all of the majors who has the exemptions so you can plan this out a little bit better but I it’s funny cuz

People are going to watch what we recorded first at the end of the show but when we were kind of talking it through it’s like who cares if they’re not really qualified for the Open Championship right now because I think that’s what you said about luk list luk

List isn’t qualified for the Uso or the Open Championship but he’s qualified for the other three at the moment but if he’s going to help you and you’re going to qualify for the Open Championship theoretically Luke list is the one that helps you get there so he would qualify

For it and I think that’s the next step as The Meta kind of evolves in this type of thing that’s kind of The Next Step that you’re thinking about right okay I’ve got luk list who is guaranteed to play the Masters who is guaranteed to play the PGA Championship and who is

Guaranteed to play the US Open he’s only in three right now he is as of this morning once we updated on established the Run he is 60th in official World Golf Ranking that would leave him out of just based off of last year’s qualifications that would likely leave

Him out of the Open Championship but if Pat drafts him and expects him to play the Open Championship it’s pretty likely that he’s going to have a a good performance either a at the Masters B at the PGA Championship or C at the open if Pat’s team is going to advance and if

That happens lucel probably played himself into a US Open qualification or exemption and in those instances then you’ve got a guy who is playing four so I think that’s kind of that next step where you can start to build some super teams who you get good golfers at the

End of the draft in rounds 10 like Luke list that maybe don’t don’t qualify for all majors at the present moment but can qualify if things break right for your team yeah I I would say that in terms of NFL we talk about by weeks and things like that

And to look at luk list he’s actually only qualif qualified for two of the four he’s not qualified technically for the US Open yet either so and but those are the last two he’s qualified for the first two which is great but it’s like drafting a handcuff like you know

Drafting Tony Pard in the 12th two years ago not the first round like last year which did not work out well to just be like hey if Zeke gets hurt or if Pol is better they’re going to give him the ball uh it’s a you know it’s an upside

Type play I would say someone like list who is most definitely like I would be trying to Target everyone who’s playing in the Masters before anything else because in terms of how the rules work for this major season beste ball I mean you can explain it better than I can but

You need to advance out of the Masters just to get to the US Open so my strategy the first thing I thought about coming into this was why don’t I just draft a team for the Masters and see how it does and that makes sense it’s it’s

Going to be likely the easiest pod to get out of although that’s tough to say the T tournament has four rounds six person group to begin with that is the six players that or five other players that you draft with including yourself uh and then it’s a 10 round po 10 person

Pod in round two Sixers pod in round three if you’re lucky enough to advance out of round three then you’ll compete in a 310 person final of course as we know from Underdog NFL bestall season the most important round is round four that’s where all of the money is made

You got to get there first right so you can’t draft a team that doesn’t have a full Master’s roster or something along those lines it becomes very important for sure to get out of round one to even give yourself that chance to get to the PJ Championship to get to the US Open

And then ultimately to have a chance at that 310 person final so I think that that is one of those strategies you can Implement that not only gives you an increased chance to get out of the Masters round but also likely gives you a more unique roster for round four so

Maybe some of those guys in the Masters ultimately play well at the Open Championship and that team is more unique which as we know in baseball when you’re competing in these small field tournaments very very important to have a unique roster so what I’ve just done I

Went to fantasy National I’ll bring it up on the screen right now and then there’s not a lot whole lot of Strokes gain data so a lot of zeros up on the board but we do have strokes gain total and I looked at the past 24 rounds we

Can shrink that down you can go into the season you know you can say I want to learn about the Masters all the way back to 2019 and see who the best players are there so you have on an average round zalot Taurus ROM and then the gala zotus

Only has eight rounds the gala only has four rounds they’re the two small sample siiz guys who have done really well at the Masters zorus obviously in both the gall in his debut last year but then you have Sheffer and Reed and DJ and Fowler and Rory cam Smith Brooks and Hideki uh

Sam Bennett is up there I don’t believe he has qualified for the Masters this time around unless he ended up with the top maybe he is did he have that top 10 at the US Open last year is he like weirdly in this no he is not in the

Masters this time around poor Sam Bennett he gained so many strokes putting last year until the very final round uh when everyone else started to run away with it so I think this gives us a pretty good good base especially when we see how some of the adps

Actually start to shake out about who are some guys that we can Target both early a bit later like based on adps right now and you can sort by that um on the major season uh when you just go back to the full version of everything uh on fantasy National but like the

Galla we saw was going very late in some of these things Hideki kept slipping we don’t quite know about his injury fer was going really late um sunjay had been dropping just because of the poor performance that’s actually something I really want to kind of hit on you when

We’re doing this you know it’s a lot about obviously we need to get out of our master’s pods and we need to get out of the US Open pods and all of that but the money is actually made at the very end all the way down in um in the Open Championship however

If we’re doing that do we want to take some guys with really terrible form at the moment who just might be better at the end of July than they currently are in March because that happens every year yeah and we’re seeing that play out in

In ADP I think I think it’s become a big big thing in ADP we’ve seen sunjay fall drastically we’ve seen Willie Z as he’s come back from his injury rise as much in the opposite end of the direction and it’s really interesting to watch these

Adps kind of set themselves up as we go I think it’s also an interesting approach too from like uh how you want to draft perspective I think you can kind of take like a barbell approach to these things where you can draft some teams well I was drafting a couple of

Weeks ago you can draft some teams now and then you can draft some things at closer to the Masters when this when this tournament actually kicks off when a little bit more of of everything is known you know you kind of do that in the NFL too where or maybe you got some

Sickos that are drafting teams in February and March for the upcoming NFL season and then you take a little bit of a break and then maybe you draft closer to August September when The Season’s actually kicking off when you’ve got more information I think the same type

Of thing can apply here and guys that are in bad form right now might be great picks by the time April rolls around right sunjay is the one that stands out um ADP is 23.1 right now that was much higher just a few weeks ago so he seems

To be a guy that is plummeting a lot of this is pretty static drafts aren’t feeling super quickly but you are seeing some guys rise and and fall drastically in terms of of ADP Hadi was one that moved a bunch early especially after the Genesis performance might drop back down

A little bit now as a guy that is dealing with an injury goes out and plays poorly at Arnold Palmer this week and and suddenly we’re getting a huge discount on Dey so I think think that is one thing just to timing out your drafts that could be an interesting type of

Micro strategy yeah especially if you have a lot of commitments like I I have fantasy National up on the screen now under the salary tab is the current ADP from Underdog and you’ll see like you know minwoo is up to 27 he’s ahead of day and Tom Kim and Keegan and Neeman is

Now up to 32nd although I think when we just did ours I can’t remember if he went earlier than that but he’s kind of the perfect one that we just talked about in the Masters he’ll be in the PGA Championship so he’ll have his opportunities to play himself into the

Final too so maybe people are a bit hesitant still on something like that of drafting him even though he’s the hottest player in the world or is he someone that because of the ADP where it’s going up and he’s not guaranteed to get those spots we see some of the other

Guys around him be it like Russell Henley who’s just going to be in all the majors and obviously isn’t the same sort of talent but we know that he’s going to be there walkie Neeman strikes me as like one of those mid-tier High upside wide receivers who could like ALS not not

Score for your team once I will say that I I think based off of our projections at ETR he is locked into the open based off of some qualifying criteria so we have him right now in the Masters in the PGA Championship not in the US Open

Which I believe he said he’s going to try and play himself into and then in the open so that is one of those things where I think right now it’s it’s really tough to get too excited about walking Neeman but if you wanted to project a T5

Finish from him at the Masters or a win at the PGA Championship or something along those lines he’s going to play himself into a US Open exemption and then you’ve got what a top 15 top 20 draft pick that you’re getting at you

Know ADP of 30 to 35 it was a guy that early on for ECR subscribers we had a massive Fate on because he didn’t have that Masters exemption he was only qualified for two of the four majors was going really early seemed like a primea fade candidate gets the exemption is

Clearly playing out of his mind which can can come and go at the the drop of a hat but if he gets into the US Open and is playing all four majors looks like a guy that should probably be drafted around like that cam Smith range to be

Quite Frank well it’s funny you mention cam Smith because when we show the one that we did first I was contemplating picking him like the first round depending on what pick I got just because he rates out so well for me so just to give a quick look to the

Rankings that I have out versus ADP right now uh so like I said Xander Scotty Rory Victor cam Smith are my top five Klay Hatton ROM Connor Max H is up there and this is just kind of like hard courses I’m going to refine this and

This is just uh I mean the don’t worry about the model rank or The Strokes game that’s just from Augusta National right now but you can see that the underdog ADP is on the leand side so guys that are kind of higher in my rankings than

Their ADP cam Smith is one of them Hatton is one of them Cory Connors is inside the top 10 of my rankings with an ADP right now of 41 so he would be a target for me someone who’s played major championships really well gu is higher

But you know Lord knows how often he’s going to play and he’s going basically undrafted in a lot of these spots pick 60 is undrafted right yeah 60 is the last pick in the draft and you know as we kind of talked about there there there will be times

When you’re drafting guys who are going to be playing in two or three Majors as of the moment you’re drafting of course you’re hoping for them to play in all four but I think if you structured things perfectly as of the moment you’re drafting you really shouldn’t have to

Draft a guy who isn’t at least Loosely locked into all four majors and I say Loosely because official World Golf Ranking can change and you’re trying to make some assumptions based off of top 50 and top 60 and top 70 type exemptions but I think for the most part you’re

Going to get guys that should be playing in all four majors so guys like gu last I had looked I think Taylor gu although a good player was only locked into was locked into no Majors uh 476 currently in official World Golf Ranking doesn’t have any previous exemption so know guys like that

I think for the most part you you can avoid um there’s others too that you know like Patrick Reid was one who we had talked about too Patrick Reed uh going at 55.8 ADP right now I think based off of uh again our rankings only locked into the Masters 105th in

Official World Golf Ranking doesn’t seem likely to get many or any of those possible exemptions so a guy that I think is only going to play one major is is being drafted right now and frankly probably should not be yeah and then you have someone like let’s say Louie for

Example I think Louie is just in the Open Championship at this point I may have that wrong but I think that’s the only one that he’s qualified for but I if if he can play himself into the US Open I guess maybe he can’t really play himself under the PGA Championship I

Really do think that he should be in the Masters he should have gotten an exemption he won twice in South Africa not on the Liv tour in December he you know has played well on Liv so far this season like if Neeman got one why didn’t Louie

Agreed and and that would be the one case where I think as we we just mentioned how important it is to be unique you got a 300 you know think think about it like a DFS a DFS small field gpp right 310 person final it’s going to be very important to be unique

Roughly the same 60 to 70ish players are being drafted in every single draft if you have a guy that you think it can or will perform well at the open and he’s not being drafted at all or or very Loosely drafted this this is kind of the

Scroll the F down strategy that Pete and brick and the the badge Bros from Underdog have discussed in the past two scroll down a little bit if you feel like you’ve got a complete roster rounds one through nine in round 10 if you want to take a Rasmus huyard who might only

Play in the Open Championship with your final pick basically going undrafted if he gives you a T10 finish at the open no one else is drafted him suddenly you’re you’re separating yourself in a big big way I don’t think we necessarily need to go that route but I think if you feel

Really confident in your team rounds one through nine that it can advance through the Masters can advance through the open Champion or to the Open Championship ultimately in that small field final then at that point you can start to take some of those some of those chances

Maybe things break ADP wise where you’re in a room where all the picks that you want are falling to you after ADP you’ve got a really really strong team and then instead of taking that uh you know taking that Lucas Glover in in the final round who might be locked for all four

You take Rasmus point guard see I like that or or take Louie I I might have to throw Louie back on the radar here just to play in the Open Championship and see how that goes Phil is probably like the worst guy who’s qualified for all four

Right yeah I think so we have him in three right now which I I hope is correct I don’t have Phil in the PGA Championship which I don’t know if he he won the PGA he won the PGA Championship three years ago or four years ago so he

He’ll okay so then he should be there so yeah Phil in in all four do you want to try and lock in a score for all four all four majors with Phil Mickelson you can certainly do that he’s a guy that’s going 57.4 ADP right now there’s worse things you can do but

I think you’re you’ve got yourself a relatively low ceiling there you I mean it’s the M it’s the Masters in the Open Championship that I think that you’re really dealing with with Phil that you know he was second at the Masters last year it was the only good result of the

Entire year so I think that as he ages he’ll continue I mean it’s going to be like every other year but he does have that history at Augusta so he can help you get out of that pod to begin with and then if you can get to the Open

Championship you’ll have be you know one of a few people who actually has Phil on your roster and like a lot of old dudes I just think old dudes can still play at any Open Championship venue yeah that’s a good point and you get this like this

Marriage of skills too where youve you you maybe have your your younger upand comers like Oar mixed with a a Phil Mickelson who’s going to play well at the Masters and you can get them you can get these teams that maybe don’t profile well together if if you put their skill

Sets together then suddenly you’ve got a group of golfers that can play well at one venue another group that can play well at another venue then suddenly you’ve got a a group of nine or 10 golfers that you can advance to the open and see how things go from there so just

To kind of go over to the world golf rankings for a second the much maligned world golf rankings but the top 50 in the world should get themselves in in the moment uh you know two weeks before the tournament obviously the top 50 at the end of the year last year got

Themselves into the master so someone like Hatton like you mentioned is shielded pretty well he’s going to be in everything he’s number 17 I don’t think that he could fall that low by the time that the Open Championship got around pavon is probably in them all now straa who’s a

Name that didn’t even really come up all that often straa Taylor Henley Brooks they’re all going to be in minwoo is going to be in I would set the cut off at 35 I think of just getting in by themselves on world golf rankings everyone else has the potential to fall

Out but it also puts someone like Jake knap on the radar he’s obviously in the master because of his win but now he has a chance to qualify for almost all of them whereas someone who’s bad form like Denny McCarthy could find himself on the outside looking in of a lot of the

Majors only because he’s in bad form he’s 46 there’s no guarantee whereas some of the other guys who you mentioned you know Cory Connor is going to be right on the periphery Lowry Lowry has a lot of Open Championship exemptions anyway still going but SEIU is right

There cam Smith and [ __ ] just aren’t going to have their chances to actually move up in the rankings unless they have an amazing Masters I don’t even think [ __ ] is in the master maybe he is in the Masters he would have been top 50 at

The end of the year so he’s probably in so they have a chance but that’s really their only chance once they start playing Asian tour events or something like that so all these guys from like the 50 to 70 range have a real chance to play themselves in we kept bringing up

Luke list but Eric Van royan is another one that if you can find guys that are qualified for the Masters that in this bubble I think that’s where the most value towards the end of drafts is going to come from I agree and it’s one of the

Tough things that that if you’re trying to do the projections or if you really want to try and grind this out if you’re somebody that’s going to go in and Max iner these you should be using rankings Like Pat has on fantasy National or rankings from us that establish the run

Just to try to get a sense of who is in what Masters or who is in what major however it’s very difficult to do because these official world golf rankings are obviously ever changing and can drastically change in some instances if a guy gets a win who was way outside

The top 50 can can certainly play himself in there guys playing poorly for long stretches can certainly play themselves out one thing that we changed Pat from last year that that we didn’t even discuss off the front at establish the Run we were doing like percentile

Rankings that a golfer made X Y or Z major if they were you know the the exemptions are different for everyone but like if they were 55th as of February 28th do we make them 075 you know 75% chance to make the Masters is it 80% what we’ve done now is we’re

Updating these rank weekly and if they’re in as of the moment you’re drafting they get a one which means 100% chance they’re playing 0% chance they’re not playing if they’re not in at that moment based off of the exemptions that we’ve used from previous years they get

A zero so these things will be Ever Changing I think that goes back to the point of like can you draft super teams of getting guys that will eventually qualify for all four majors who aren’t even being drafted right now that could be some guys in the 60 to 70 official

World Golf R range right now who can play themselves into all four events you know or or it could be somebody that that is even further back and like Jake naap goes out and gets a win and and is now 45th and likely to play most of these Majors I

Beholden to your actual rankings right like you do want to have a sense of how the draft is going and I think for this draft let’s try to draft a mass team of hey here’s 10 guys that are all in the Masters and we’re going to try to get

Out of our pod to begin with I like that strategy and I agree with you I don’t think you should be behing to a certain rank it’s really really hard even for people that are doing like the the whole by ho simulations and doing draftings projections and all those things it’s

Really hard to project you know what Scotty Sheffer is going to do at the Open Championship months and months from now so I think understanding the structure of the the contest understanding your ranking having an understanding of ADP we’ll talk through this like you might want to draft a guy

In the second round but just based off his ADP there’s a good chance that he comes back to you in the third round so you can kind of let him sit there for a little bit so I think kind of having an understanding of the room a little bit

Having an understanding of the ADP and really having an understanding of which golfers are playing which majors is kind of like 101 level stuff that you need to have then from there throw in your golfer takes throw in your you know projection related stuff course fit type stuff but I think ultimately give

Yourself a good Baseline with with just the r which just who’s playing what majors and ADP then you’re going to have a pretty successful draft so just kind of running through it what I’m going to do is sort by average score over the past 24 rounds at the Masters and then

Sort that by total so zot Taurus you know does pretty well we’ll put a star next to him he is going at pick number 12 though I think the gala becomes a little bit of a value then you have Patrick Reed so the the thing with

Patrick Reed would be and I I guess maybe we should try to run through this that if Reed it’s kind of like the only one that he’s in is the first one that has killed his ADP because no one wants to have this guy for the US Open that if

He can do what he did last year at the Masters then all of a sudden he’s in the rest of the majors that that might be the way to do it I don’t have an intimate understanding enough of how far he would move in the official world golf rankings

He’s 105th now I would I would imagine what like a T5 or a T10 finish at the master is probably enough to get him those exemptions for the other three for for me it’s just it’s just like a leap too far I’ll take my chances at getting

Uh a T5 or a T10 type finish from a later pick for a guy that I still think can play in the PJ Championship US Open and Open Championship but I I get it just based off of the track record at the Masters and and a guy who is you a

Better golfer than the golfers that he’s being drafted around at the moment but the reason for that is because he’s he’s not locked into the rest of the the rest of the majors so the rest of the guys like Fowler rates out really well for

The Masters uh and he is going at pick number 40 so that’s fine do you want to jump into one of these drafts yeah I can hop in let’s get this thing filled up yeah we’ll get we’ll get this thing filled up we’re still waiting on two

People to go in no one took the bait uh we went out there see no it’s because I forgot to hit send on the Tweet of course I did I’m such an idiot when it comes to doing this I guess uh trying to do do the show and do this at the same

Of ways but when you take a look at his overall profile that he either kind of spikes or he sucks which is kind of perfect for a tournament like this I think that’s ideal either he’s giving he’s not going to contribute to your team at all because he’s going to be

Sitting on your bench or in the times that he does contribute he contributes in a massive way we love those guys in baseball so in terms of we draft 10 players on our team over the six rounds that we do this how many actually do contribute to our team six of them six

Will be be on our roster four will be on our bench obviously we want a 10 golfer roster for every major that may not be possible as discussed but having six at least is I mean you you have to have at least six for every major you’re just

Going to be you’re going to be drawn totally dead and if people are wondering is it going to be counted per day your six best scores or per tournament your six best scores per tournament good question per tournament for your six scores so you’re you know you’re you’re

If you feel like your guys dead after Thursday give it a chance we’ll we get through the Friday cut sweat and then get through Saturday and Sunday accumulate those scores and then we’ll see where we stand after that but it it makes it a really fun experience because

It’s like it’s like taking the regular DFX experience and just quadrupling it because you get to do this four times assuming your team’s Advance out of out of each one of the pods I think the the Masters pod obviously being two of six getting through you can have a

Relatively mid as the kids would say Masters team and still Advanced because you really just got to beat four other teams and and then hopefully advance to that next round where then things get a little bit more difficult where it’s one of 10 one of six and then ultimately in

Lot of people that that of course you’ve got Brooks who’s a couple of of picks ahead we have notoriously at ETR had a little bit of a Brooks fade in the majors which has come back to bite us quite frequently I think people would much rather click Brooks I think you

Even get to a point kind of in that that um you know 8 nine 10 11 12th position where people would rather have uh ludvic you can you can make that uh you can kind of adjust game forward and project him going forward I think even like

Speed JT Willie Z I think Willie Z is one of those guys that if he continues to perform well out of the back stuff and and coming back on tour you could see Willie Z jump morawa even uh he was another guy that we kind of had a Fate

On but he looks like he’s locked into all four and is playing really well people really like cam Smith I I see he’s got a 14 and a half 0p but people really like cam Smith as well I think those guys like I think there is kind of

A teer break at least in my opinion after seven with Klay and then you get into that that next tier where a lot of those guys seem pretty similar at least on the surface for very different reasons between lud Vic morawa speed JT willly Z hom cam Smith I think that’s

Kind of that next group and man I think you could Shuffle those rankings Any Which Way and feel pretty comfortable about which guy you got there game on are we full we’re full I don’t I don’t even know if you’re in mine who which one are you I left I left myself
