Welcome to the official YouTube channel for the Colin coward podcast go on hit the Subscribe button there you go right down there if you want to be among the first to hear my weekly takes NFL college football more right there it’s like they say a lot of
Business gets done on the golf course a lot of stuff gets done at the combine um I thought my guess was that Justin Fields would be moved from the Bears to Atlanta around the combine you just you know you get a couple beers guys sit
Down and what I what my guess the way Justin Fields would work is that yeah I don’t know exactly what you do but like the Bears have the ninth pick Atlanta’s got the eighth pick maybe you swap those and a third rounder something like that feels reasonable uh so the Bears move up
One slot and get a third rounder that feels like something you could do for Justin Fields I don’t think he’s going to be a superstar in Atlanta but I do think you can argue he’ll be the most talented quarterback in the NFC South where he’s just not he’s not as good as
Jared Goff and I don’t think he’s I don’t think he at this point is trending to be nearly as good as Jordan love so if ktk cousins comes back for two years Kirk Cousins right now is a more efficient quarterback than Justin fields and so he would be the fourth most
Reliable quarterback in the division that’s not a good place for him I think it’s a much better place for him uh to go to Atlanta where you know Baker and Derek Carr are are you know they can win a lot of games especially Baker he’s won
A playoff game you know he’s a playoff quarterback in the AFC and the NFC but in terms of overall size and talent whip arm you know Justin’s pretty special player so the combine to me and we sent John middleof there for the volume the combine’s really a relationship it’s
Like a camp for football grown-ups where you get all the GMS and the Personnel people and they they screw around they have steak dinners um and you get a lot of business done um don’t care much about the players testing um you know it’s like these personal workouts and
Testing I I do think you know there’s a trend over the last several years that quarterbacks don’t throw at this thing I think every draft has a really interesting player um I mean I think without question everybody knows it’s good wide receiver good offensive tackle class really good three or four really
High-end receivers three or four really good offensive tackles you could have six offensive tackles taken in the first round that’s a huge number the quarterbacks there’s a lot of talent but I think the most interesting player in the draft is going to be JJ McCarthy from Michigan who had a great coach a
Great o line a great run game and a great defense in a conference frankly that’s kind of Ohio State and everybody else outside of Michigan I me that’s about the only team Michigan facc that has equal talent in the SEC even though Alabama can be great there’s Georgia
There’s LSU uh there’s a lot of teams that can stack up athletically three or four teams at the top Ohio State and Michigan just look different different than everybody else and McCarthy benefited from that now he won a lot of games but they didn’t really rely on him
He didn’t throw many touchdown passes uh his biggest games were often against I mean he had I think it was half of his touchdown passes against three teams all of them awful East Carolina Michigan State in Indiana he had half of his touchdown totals McCarthy to me though
My big concern is he’s really slender and let me give an example so I’ve used this before is that um Aaron roders and I are the same height and I’ve seen Aaron a couple times up close he doesn’t look thick he weighs 225 PBS I’m the
Same height and I weigh 195 I work out every day I’m in pretty good shape um you would view me as Slender if you looked at Aon you would view him as sort of Slender he carries 30 pounds more than me at the same height chest shoulders but it’s that thickness years
Ago I asked somebody about airon I said he doesn’t look that big and this person said look at his calves look at his butt look at his shoulders look at his wrists there’s a difference when Johnny Manzel came into the league he just didn’t he didn’t have the size and the shoulders
The butt the hips um the wrist he just wasn’t big enough and so I look at JJ McCarthy and he’s 63 so he is taller than Aaron Rogers by an inch and a half and he weighs 20 to 23 pounds less that is that’s noticeable to me he comes
Across as Slender and you know it’s somebody an NFL executive said he looks like a stretched out Bryce young and I never thought of that but in in the context of body types it it kind of It kind of matches and so I think McCarthy is fascinating I know two people who I
Really like in the NFL Executives think he’s a Hamond Egger just don’t really see it I know somebody else Randy Mueller a former executive in the league works for the athletic now really likes JJ McCarthy obviously Jim Harbaugh loves him he’s rooting for his guys I don’t
Know quite what to make of him now I didn’t like Zack Wilson of the Jets out of college I like JJ McCarthy more I think he throws a better ball and a more consistent ball um you know I didn’t like Johnny Manzel out of college I think JJ McCarthy’s a much much better
Prospect um I didn’t like TBO at all at College obviously I mean TBO couldn’t throw a consistent NFL football it’s not like I don’t think he has talent I do think JJ has talent but the body type um it’s just it’s a completely different sport I mean the NFL I remember when
Johnny Manzel came into the league and he was a runaround guy gave Alabama’s great defenses all sorts of fits and I think it was a preseason game he’s playing for Cleveland I think they played Washington is that the one where he gave somebody the finger and he
Rolled out and you know he thought I’m going to get around this defensive end and he could not outrun a defensive end in the NFL and in that moment I’m like yep not going to work because his game is movement it’s just not going to work Lamar Jackson moves you can’t stop him
Michael Vic moved Steve Young moved they got around the corner so a lot of times you know you play in college high school and college and what works for you does not work does not translate to the NFL so I’m just fascinated with JJ McCarthy
To see if it does um I just don’t quite see now you could say Colin you didn’t see CJ stra no I said Lance zerline who works at nfl.com a draft analyst he said Jared Goff was his comp and I and I said probably 10 times on the air that’s a
Good comp out of college I didn’t see a lot of juice with Jared gof but I thought he threw a beautiful ball from the pocket I didn’t see a lot of juice until the Georgia game on CJ strad but he throws a beautiful ball out of the
Pocket and zerline was on the herd yesterday on FS1 and talked about that that people give him crap for that but if you go look at Jared goff’s seconde numbers and CJ Stroud’s first year numbers uh CJ got a great first coach Jared gof didn’t they’re very similar so
JJ McCarthy is going to be really really interesting to me um you know like this was the best Michigan team perhaps ever and the best team in college football I thought significantly with a great o line and a really powerful Run game and a great coach very Alabama likee and if you
Start looking at all these Alabama quarterbacks the Bryce Youngs and the Tua you know they looked M Jones boy did we really like them out of college and then you get to the NFL behind an average offensive line and you really have a number one receiver that’s what JJ McCarthy feels
Like to me the great coach the great o line the Great Run game the great defense support playing with a lead getting very good field position just like Tua and M Jones and Alabama quarterbacks time and time again then they get into the NFL and they Trail and
They don’t have a good offensive line and they’re moving and JJ McCarthy weighs 63 203 pounds and he probably needs 2 2 lbs more with that size so we’ll see he is to me the most interesting player in the first Round

Cowherd kept calling JJ an "NFL quarterback" all last season when explaining why he thought Michigan was the best team in the country.
Colin, you are 1, 000% apparently your eyes have been closed while watching games so you must be hearing what's going on but not saying the changes, the JJ McCarthy types are precisely with the NFL needs, to turn the corner they have been slowly fighting trying to turn for the last 10 years…
Stop trying to falsely superimpose drop back pastor metrics over a different machine, the game has come full circle, it is has gone back to the original type quarterback it had in the first place, which was essentially a running back with an arm…
McCarthy will nail it… You missed it on this one guy
LOL… JJ will be fine..this will simply be another "WHERE COLIN WAS WRONG" …LOL😂
JJ weighs 220lbs
I think by the time the NFL season starts, He will look bigger than Josh Allen.
Colin wtf is wrong with you? This is a bad take man
Please put out more stuff like this so JJ falls to the Broncos. Keep overlooking him. I expect he thinks Daniels won't translate either since he is more slender than JJ it seems.
You guys said the same thing about tom
Idk Penn state was pretty good their edge rusher blew up our passing game and forced us to run the ball the whole second half. Hope the lions draft that edge rusher.
He’s still very, young just turned 21 a couple weeks ago and weight was 219lbs at the combine. Also as a Michigan fan our O line wasn’t very good this year pass blocking, JJ definitely covered up for a lot of Barnhart, Henderson etc getting beat. We had guys that were guards playing tackle.
The games that were outliers we were playing like 4 of the top 5 defenses in the country in a row or had Roman Wilson out and JJ with a bad ankle sprain. Our defense wasn’t going to loose those games so we just ran it every play.
In a year and a half, he’ll be explaining why he knew JJ was going to be a winner. This guy is the most predictable on the planet.
People are so strange, they root for JJ but hope Caleb is a bust lol people are so emotional over these QB’s
I like listening to you, but JJ McCarthy with Sean Payton will do good in the NFL, look at all the QBS that were failing and he turned them around. Sounds like a Mental Breakdown.
My hot take is that mccarthy will have a better nfl career than caleb williams
Cowherd is as good at evaluating QBs as anyone which means it’s a coin toss.
When projecting QBs it is important to remember that a huge piece of it is where you end up. Your coaching and your talent around you.
219 pounds at combine. He will do well.
Just like to remind everyone that Colin Cowherd felt the 49ers won the first round of the 2017 draft because despite needing a QB passed on Mahomes to take Solomon Thomas.
He just weighed in at 219 pounds at the combine?
I think Fields suits the Falcons too. But let's face it, the play-calling there has made him seem inept. No way does anyone think he's worth much.
So here's my suggestion: the Falcons trade their #8 pick for Fields and D.J. Moore. (Okay, they will likely have to throw something else in).
Poles & Eberflus have made it clear that they want to make this "their" team. They ousted the other locker-room leaders. They cancelled the plays that made them the #1 offense for weeks in a row before they acquired D.J. Moore & managed to neuter the offense with him.
So they want Fields gone, trade for Moore & damn if he doesn't publicly support Fields. They likely want him gone too but of course can't say that to anyone.
The Bears can't give Fields away. But if the Falcons offer say a 6th-rounder along with giving them a 3rd pick in the to-p-10 the Bears will be able to save face & sell this to their fans as getting what they need to succeed. Here's what the Falcons would get.
A better WR than will be left on the boards at #8 along with a better QB than will be left on the board at #8, a top-5 WR duo for the next several years & a potential franchise QB. Fields, London, More, Pitts & Bijan Robinson. This will be The Most Exciting Offense since… who knows?
They can spend all their other resources draft & $ filling all their other holes. They wouldn't need stars everywhere. Free agents will come to them. No way do they not win at least 12 games with that offense. Who would have a better?
Do you know anyone in their front office?
If a GM is going "this guy has a lot of talent, but I'm not drafting him, because he's too skinny" that GM should be fired immediately. You are using Aaron Rodgers as an example, but let me counter that with Jared Goff. He's one of the most durable QBs in the league and he has an almost identical build to McCarthy.
McCarthy is too small. Have you seen Daniels' frame? I don't know how he can last either.
JJ had one of the better QB combines.
McCarthy would be great if it was 1975
Are we in store for another “Jordan Love is a total flop to he’s a top ten QB” Colin flip flop?
LMFAO, this is Mel Kiper level of take. Wow, JJ gonna be better at NFL than that powder puff out of USC.
The fact Colin got facts wrong on JJ (measurables) means his argument loses credibility. And I enjoy his analysis 90% of the time.
Jonny would have made it had he chosen to devote his life to football and work hard. Instead he partied like he did in college.
The stupid "stretched out Bryce Young" was a disguised jab at JJ's future prospects not his physique. Please don't repeat that asinine quote.
Yeah cause all you "experts" have been right about every prospect right?
JJ's combine was great in every aspect until he started the throwing drills. The kid can't hit a moving target to save his momma's life! He was HORRIBLE and can only throw to a spot on the field. He was so bad they stopped the distance drills and swapped to the short drills, where he receivers were barely moving, but his confidence was shattered and instead of throwing a dart, he gently tossed the ball to them so he could get at least some completions! I felt bad for him!
He is the best QB in this draft class. No QB was under the pressure he was to succeed.
My question ok he wasn’t ask do truly carry the team…but as long as my QB ain’t the reason the team is losing I would take a chance on bringing him in….because if u showing the tendencies to turn it over in college most likely that’s going to happen in the pros…and he only threw 4….so yeah u can kinda question he is asked to do more can he handle it…but he has shown that he can win games and he don’t turn the ball over
Penix is a WAY better prospect than JJ and it’s not even close
Good analysis
Didn't go crying to mama like the #1 future overall pick did. Oh yeah crying like a girl is a positive thing in today's world 🌎 😂
Watch him turn out to be great. Another commentator that doesn't know squat
Colin = disconnected….rather clueless here
Thanks for a couple of "look at the butt" chuckles
🤡🤡🤡🤡
Michigan wasn't relevant nationally again until JJ McCarthy came to Michigan.
Is colin cowturd ever right about anything ? Nope
The best whitest qb ever over black ones
His ceiling is Kyler Murray. Floor is Zach Wilson. If he’s in the middle he’s an agile, baker mayfield. Not sure I’d take him in the Top 10, but a team might
When he was at the combine he was so attractive you heard young female fans screaming. That's Roger Goodells NUMBER 1 target audience (see taylor swift) he will ensure JJ gets the Mahomes/Brady level treatment
He can't push the ball down the field!
JJ is the only quarterback who played in an NFL offense while still in college.
This dude is absolutely not a starting level NFL QB. Period. The stats just came out on his outside and deep throws and they are terrible. Game absolutely doesn't translate to the NFL.
Watch!
