Patrick Cantlay spoke to the media ahead of the Arnold Palmer Invitational where he was asked about his form as well as the recent controversy over how to rank players from LIV Golf w/o them receiving points from the Official World Golf Ranking.
Yeah it feels good I had two weeks off and uh did some work back in Jupiter I was in California or on the west coast uh since almost Christmas so it’s nice to have a couple weeks uh back at home yeah I do I think there’s a premium on
Driving the golf ball in the Fairway and I think you have to play really smart around this place there’s um you know some really tricky hole locations and if you get out of position it’s really important to get the ball to the correct spot if you want to have a chance at
Scoring I mean uh it’s definitely one of the harder stops on tour and I really like um you know golf courses that are more on the challenging end I think it was definitely the idea to try to get the best possible field in all these
Events and so I think part of that is getting some of the guys that have played well this year um and I think the process is is doing that I think if you play well enough there’s no barrier to get in if you know very clearly that if
You play well one of the best um you know if you have one of the best West coasts you’re going to be in in the tournament this week so um yeah I think it’s I think it’s been good yeah I think that’s you know up for the majors to decide their fields
Um you know the British Open and the US Open are obviously open events so there’s qualifying into those events the PGA and the Masters are more Invitational style and so you know it’s really up to each individual tournament to determine the criteria to get into those events and
That’s not really that’s not really on my radar I think trying to figure out how to appeal to more people and appeal to more fans is probably the biggest change that I would like to see I think if we can figure out a way to appeal to more people and get more
People playing the game I think when people start playing the game and learn with what it’s about that’s really an eye opener for people I’ve I’ve met a or I have a number of friends that really didn’t play golf growing up and they’ve gotten in their late 20s or early 30s and they
Started playing and they become addicted to the game and now they’re fans and now they love playing the playing the game they’re not going and playing football they’re not going and playing basketball but they love going and playing golf I think in this new age where people’s attention span is less it’s
Rare to do something in person with your friends for four or five hours and I think the more that we can kind of put our phones down and go out and be outside and do something with people that we enjoy I think that would be better for everyone

FOL…now full on PGAT…oh well, it was fun
PGA has lost me now.
OWGR is quickly losing its relevance in today's global golf landscape. This is not good or bad but just the reality.
The majors r just elevated pga tour events 😢.
I really try to like this guy, but he’s just a drip. And truth be told, if i have to TRY to like you…..maybe it just ain’t gonna happen or shouldn’t.
Remember the Beatles song Come Together. Tiger is not reasoning on this topic.
I like a system to rank players performance, but I don’t know how you can do a system with two, vastly different tours and formats. Sorry LIV players, but I think I will stick to the PGA Tour and the money they raise for charities. The LIV players can take their money, play less and have a life. They can create their own majors and invite whoever they want, but be prepared for none of the PGA Tour players showing up, because they don’t need your money.
If THIS cat is head of the player's group…Sayonara pga.
If you're liv you're not pga tour, plain and simple. band liv players totally.
The main problem is there are no characters Patrick. 95% of PGA tour players are boring as fuck. No charisma just plodding along doing your job
Every pga tour win means nothing, and now everyone who wins a major for the next few years will have an asterisks.
The PGA tour is sad, sad, sad. On the road to irrelevance and will get there very soon.
A fine young man right there.
No sack.
I’m done w the pga. It’s the cnn of sport. No thanks.
