Two former NFL offensive linemen (Alex Boone and Jeremiah Sirles) team up with a die-hard football fan and media dweeb (Phil Mackey) for entertaining, informative, opinionated, behind-the-scenes discussions about the game — from a trenches perspective!

#NFL

It’s three guys who combined to play 15 seasons in the National Football League trenches well two guys and Mackie who didn’t do this is the oine committee there they are back from the NFL combine haven’t slept in days calendars packed with meetings it’s Jeremiah it’s Alex you guys full on horseradish sauce shrimp

Cocktail sauce oh yeah oh yeah that was night one night one straight you didn’t even waste any time just night one straight El it was amazing just like they just put it in a syringe so you don’t you can just put it right into

Your arm we had a virgin we had a virgin trim cocktail guy with us right so you don’t really you tell the guys like you know when it’s someone new you’re like listen it’s a little spicy it’s got a little kick but you don’t let him know

It’s going to rock your world right and so I was lucky enough to sit across from set individual it’s like smelling Sal and they set it down in front of us cuz we just go yeah everyone yeah everyone will have one and they set across from

Him and I see him stab it with his fork and this thing is loaded I mean loaded juicy like he like did the like dip it so like some of it fell off all it was piled on top oh yeah and I see him throw

It in his mouth watching and I was like I’m just going to watch this ride and you got to see the stages of panic in which his body started going through he get the initial like Choo Cho chwo and then the swallow and then the oh my God

I’m going to throw up like I can’t do this it’s not staying down to the overall realization of like okay I’m not going to throw up but oh my gosh my eyes are going to pop out of my skull to the finally like okay I made it through

Right the three stages of panic in about a total of two seconds and you look and like yeah now you want more right like you want more back into The Fray huh and he was like what I was like welcome to the combine like w combine can

Officially begin now at 11:00 at night hammering shrimp cocktail at St Elmos dude seriously the best thing is like the reservations start at like 10:30 God so busy what time you want to go to dinner 10:30 is that work for you it’s about early enough all right cool

No it was great especially because when Bill ate it Bill gets really red so his face lit up dude and then all of a sudden he’s addicted to it and I don’t know what it is but that bite it’s juicy man and it’s it was so good it was so

Everyone everyone gets their own shrimp cocktail oh yeah and and then and then all of a sudden everyone goes wait a minute did he just bring six shrimp cocktails all of a sudden Jeremiah’s partner goes he brought one for it he thought we all wanted one oh oh okay

Okay cuz I was like looking around I was like we’ll take a couple right cuz there’s three I like just give one to everybody yeah there’s like three or four in each like little dish and he just started laying a single dish in front of everybody so I was like oh

We’re all we’re all experience this for a while just Raw it’s so fun unprotected shrimp cocktail un protected shrimp cocktail and can I just say that may have been the greatest like sequence no it wasn’t there was it was an amazing weekend I mean you know what’s crazy most people go on vacation

And they’re like I just did nothing we just went on vacation for 5 days and walked like 35 miles and it was the most amazing time of my life because five minutes before putting that shrimp cocktail down the old hatch I literally ran into Dan Dan [ __ ] Campbell

There’s one I took one right there took okay we took we we we’re giving Alex we’re giving Alex an F bomb quota and yeah because everybody’s being super lame so whatever anyways five minutes before that I literally ran right into Dan Campbell and I probably would have

Been like everybody else in this world that just clammed up but I didn’t I literally grabbed him and was like can I just be like you’re my you’re my superhero and he was like I appreciate that I was like I’m Alex Boon I’m literally your biggest fan he was like

Boon I know who you are I was like if you would have been my coach we probably would have eaten people he started laughing and we were joking around for a while but then the old shrimp Coast Down the Hatch dude it was literally so much

Fun that night it was well first of all he show up Dan did you hug Dan did you of course I and then all of a sudden all his assistants started staring at me I go hey hey calm down I know fry he’s my bestie and they were like oh okay okay it’s

Been wor about it yeah he first of all he shows up 15 minutes late to dinner right so there’s a ding in itself who and who did you you showed up 15 minutes late to dinner I went to dinner with you we walked together we literally walked

To S El together that’s dude oh and I I ran into paig before I went to dinner I literally was walking and she grabbed me and was that’s the first time I’ve ever met her already at the table and you were late first of all sensitive D not

Sensitive 15 minutes late at the combine you can’t stop and talk to anybody late sounds a little sensitive little hit with the sensitive I just did there’s an ultra getting close anyways there it is you schedule a 10 o’clock dinner you don’t show 10:15 people get hangry

Anyways but it was funny cuz we’re sitting there and then all a sudden Here Comes Kylie Here Comes Bill and then Boon comes around the table and we’re like right at the beginning of this huge room right and boo comes around the table like I just saw Dan fing Gamble

And like you see a whole bunch of heads kind of turn around like that and it was just so funny but that was a yeah that was a great first night great first start but yeah I averaged I averaged 8.5 miles a day walking back and

Forth I met with I had 29 formal meetings so I met with almost all 32 teams um you know but didn’t qu quite get all 32 but it was like so many informal meetings too right like oh you see a GM you see a scout and you take 5

Minutes to sit there and chat with them really quickly about your guys and the whole bit but yeah it’s just non-stop Lobby hopping you’re like trying to figure out is he at the JW is he at the marot is he at the Weston is he at the

Embassy is he at the Conrad right so you have to just schedule everything because you don’t teams don’t come to you you come to the teams right they’ll be like I’m at the Weston at 1:00 how about this you can you can make it or you can’t

It’s like I’ll be there I I’ll take it I I got it I’ll take it here here’s here’s me being an idiot I’m at the Marriott I’m like okay let’s go to the J dub we literally walk all the way across to Bill’s with me I’m standing in the lobby I’m my

Coaches are never really late looking down at this text quotation marks Marriott and I’m like [ __ ] the wrong one all a sudden I text JJ JW and Marriott are two different places right he’s like y literally running across how many how many blocks apart are these Hotel I walk

In solar like probably three two and a half blocks it’s like they’re not far but like if you’re at the JW and you have to go to the Conrad oh that’s probably that’s probably the furthest walk and I hading Jeremiah with his little new balances I the Adidas I had the Adidas

Ultra boost on all week DA’s Ultra boost suit jacket like it’s ath Leisure at its best briefcase little agent briefcase with the other thing the other thing about the great thing about Indianapolis and this is why there’s like so many rumors about them moving it and taking it somewhere else the Skywalk system

Like you can get like I said from the Conrad all the way to the JW and not have to go outside like there’s a great Skywalk system very similar to Minneapolis and so it’s not warm like it was cold most of the time and windy so

Like you didn’t want to go outside and so that’s another reason why you go out into the convention center and I love that too because it’s a great way to just run into people as well right you just run into people you know run into a

Team or like hey you didn’t text me back let’s schedule a meeting be like uh yeah let’s do something at 2 o’clock Perfect Right throw in the calendar like that’s another great reason but I will say a rumor I heard coming out of the combine

And this can kind of be a mic combine is it’s on block for 2025 to be in Indie one more year after that there’s a committee that wants to move it to four different places Minnesota Nashville Phoenix or Vegas don’t Vegas wow and I heard that list

And I immediately went the NFL just did the Super Bowl in Vegas and it was a great success and the NFL is all about making money I bold prediction think that if they move it to one of those four places in 2026 it’s a good chance

That it’s in Vegas for sure wow dude and you know the PA event went to went to Vegas before that’s what they used to start taking us to it was Vegas ter that was different yeah but when you’re dealing with kids and rookies and all that you don’t want to take them out

There I think Indie is the perfect spot we we both agreed with that too because it is so low-key there and the Skyway system and it just runs so smoothly and you can go right from the convention center walk literally one block over to the stadium like everything just makes

Sense but I could see a lot of people being like hey it’s time to change it up how many of these kids would sneak out of their little hotel rooms no it’s not that I think it’s just the distractions that you would have to deal with and the

Problems that you would have to deal with there’s nobody sneaking out of that hotel I promise you like that is on lock this is the one time that when they’re like it’s lights are out lights are out Everyone’s Watching You they know they’re not idiots if you’re an agent

And you even try and bring your player food and you’re standing in their Lobby they’re like can we help you like oh I’m just waiting for my player like do you have a credential uh no I don’t get out oh no I’m for right there’s a table

Right there marked food label it name it get out like okay like the Crown Plaza in Indie is Fort Knox you can’t get if you don’t have your credential they those security guards take their job real serious I mean real serious and so you’re like okay sounds good I’ll wait

Outside in the cold here until my player gets down I had to go on a wild Chase my first night I text my guys right when I get there I’m like ad hey you need anything right just double cheing in and he goes ah I need wipes and cherry juice like

Okay and so I I went to Whole Food a shovel or Whole Foods to get cherry juice right and then you go Whole Foods and then I was like okay when you go CVS walked with CVS Clos got an Uber went to another CVS finally got it and then

Ubered back over there but like that’s just part of being the that’s just part of what you are you’re support staff right you need anything you got you want to be an agent kids this is where you start glamor side of it you think Drew Rosen house is new going for cherry

Juice and cherry juice baby what else you need when you go to the combine if you’re part of that team your little job is [ __ ] [ __ ] Duty like we soon as we got in we were like what do you guys need they were like food we need fruit

So we ran right to the store and got fruit like your whole job is to make sure they’re good all week and it is so much fun because you’re watching these guys take huge steps and you’re watching these guys go through these interviews or you’re watching them sit there and

Like interact with people and I will say that these guys interact with each other a lot more than we ever did like these guys come in here and they’re really really tight all of them like they’re very close which I think is awesome because it’s camaraderie whereas we came

In and everyone was always looking over their shoulders like who are you and they say they’re you’re tougher than me I don’t believe it like everybody just hated each other and now you go into like the noble suite and everyone’s just hanging out you’re like man this is so

Fun it is so cool and these dudes are so big and that’s my mic first M dude I’m telling you right now being around these guys they’re are massive and they move so well I’m telling you right now I was so impressed with the way these guys were doing field

Work and the way that they were running their 40s like some of them look like deer running and some of them you’re like there’s no way I could have looked half as athletic and you see them move on the field and the way that they can

Stop and turn like dude tiis fuaga tiis fuaga from Oregon State wow Troy Fu from Washington you got to be kidding me I was looking at him like there’s no way that guy’s an offensive line it’s got to be a receiver I mean he this the times the old lineman put up

This year were stupid like I don’t know if this was just a really fast class or if guys were just getting truly faster but I felt like like everyone was like 501 505 like 505050 and you’re just like holy crap dude like these dud are moving and my

Mic is very rarely in the NFL have I ever been stopped dead in my tracks and been in like awe as someone walked by me right the times I can really think about it are when I played against Newton and he ran by me as I was doing my warmup

For the first time and I was like holy crap that is a monster human like he ran by you and you I literally stopped my warm up and watched him run and watched his ginormous calves walk by me and the other time was this weekend when

Georgia or I’m I’m gonna mess his name amarius Mims I believe is how you say it amarius Mims from Georgia weigh in officially these are official combine numbers 6076 340 lb 36.1 in arms 11.2 inch hands with an 86.7 wingspan this dude is an alien like if you

Painted him blue he’d be from the planet Pandora and he’d be an avatar like that is what he looks like like when he walks by you and you just see him like the physical presence of that dude was truly astounding like to see and then he went

Out there and I think he ran like a 507 like I was like what is happening like how is this even remotely real like all these dudes are getting bigger stronger and this is an unreal offensive line tackle class like it’s going to be great but yeah very few guys and that

Was one of the like one of the dudes that I looked across and was like yeah it’s probably a good thing I don’t play in this league anymore cuz y’all will come and take my job real fast I’ve got all the measurements pulled up here I

Mean there like there’s a lot of dudes like 315 320 lb dudes running sub 540s yeah Roger rosengarden from uh Washington 494 or was it 492 official 492 Frank Crum from Wyoming was a 494 here’s the thing how about Tanner love frank Crum Center’s running 4 94s yeah

Bortolini I mean that’s two years in a row now that bortolini and titman both have been just extremely athletic centers coming out of Wisconsin and we’ve talked about that that’s that Kelsey and hey by the way would not be an o line show if we didn’t mik the fact

That one of the greatest centers ever gave us the old uh hey hey right let’s give a shout out to good old Kelsey by the way Cleveland boy that’s right don’t forget we produced some of the best just want you guys God’s country so let’s bring it back uh no this is

What I’m talking about guys like this that are starting to make this sub five looked normal like dude I remember when we went to the combine we were like just get just get under like a five5 we had guys running like 58s I I ran a 51 I was

Like oh my God I’m done I’m never doing this again like it was terrible these dudes were running like the wind I’m not even kidding watching Roger Rosengard take off I was like man he could have been a tight end this guy could I found

Boon’s I found Boon’s uh hey I had some good stats by the way I still hold the record in my own gym for bench press I I’m just going to let do you remember how many bench press 225 35 and they took one away so you are just racking up

The self sucks this morning well I can’t help it that I you know did what I did what you want me to do I mean this website which is NFL combin results.com so it must be off offal it’s got off it took away two reps from you it has you

At 33 bench press reps no I was 35 and they took one away for bouncing and your 40 was a 5.16 yep that’s cruising man I mean that’s like at 3 like 15 years ago humans have evolved a lot in 15 years I know do you remember what your vertical leap was 28

In we’ll round up 27 and and a half it’s pretty good how about I don’t remember three con or Shuttle I don’t even remember doing dude how about romad dun shutting the lights off inside I don’t and we were we were question you only get twice

Like you only get to bring in one time and that just was it just for his own he just want it was those rep but a lot of us were talking like you only get one rep so he must have stopped 11 times before you finish because if you finish your time counts

Because there was a kid we were watching a guy and I thought he should have finished at the last second he didn’t like his time and he literally made a right and almost took out everybody in the table I was like dude there was a better way to do that everybody in the

Table’s like oh my like they just but if you cross that line your time’s official that’s why everyone will just stop or they’ll pull out out of the way right away he kept kicking over the second cone with his technique so he kept stopping that’s another mic of mine if

I’m doing the combine I’m moving the drills around the field because you can tell by the last day where the three cone drill has been the entire time there is literally it’s driven all you see is is the turf you don’t see any beads it is literally aign through the

Turf so they have to keep coming out and raking it and everybody’s slipping everybody’s sliding everywhere by the way you’ve just done a ton of field work like that is the last time that I would be like hey let’s go do a bunch of cuts

Let’s do a bunch of drops real low I would have been like let’s get all this done that’s how we used to do it we used to get everything done and then they’d be like okay now we’re going to go outside and do the field work but that

Was before it was really put on TV right so was like you were there the whole day they have shortened the sown when our group went it was like six hours you were out there all day going and then the next group came in after us and that’s when

It was like this sucks and you kind of saw a little bit of that with the wave drill with the old lineman they were making him go and I mean go Isaiah Adam Joe had to go for a while and then all of a sudden by like number 10 the guy

Was like n let’s just here we go one two three four you’re out I was like man they’re they’re trying to get this thing going and they only made everybody do one rep they let us do two reps of everything like it’s it’s trying to become TV it’s all for TV which is

Hilarious by the way like the almost comical the NFL has brilliantly gone through every possible asset from like the schedule release and they they determined 15 years ago with their Network we’re literally going to tell Vis like 20 hours of offensive guards doing three cone drills with sideline

Reporters peliso and Jamie erll down Jam erll is like six months pregnant down there interviewing wide receivers like it’s wild and people watch it’s in I mean I was watch IA watch be honest when you’re watching those receivers and DBS run you’re you’re locked in worthy when

He ran that 421 you were locked in we saw 425 and you could tell he was like I’m going for it you were like so we were at the combine that night the NFL Legends put they put a great event on for former players to be able to come up

Eat food hang out in the quarterback Suite like and just kind of chill out and be basically be like a social couple hours so we went for the second group of the receivers to run and we’re all sitting there and we watched him run his

First one and we were like yep shut it down 425 dude take a day off and all sudden when you saw him get back up there we’re like no way like if I run dude if I have an athlete that runss a 425 I’m calling him and being like take

Your C off hang him up in the Lou call it a day right NOP this dude as soon as he got back out there you’re like oh man he’s really going to go for it and you could hear the crowd like kind of start to cheer like yeah like here we go like

It kind of it was kind of cool to hear and then gorac the guy who runs the 40 time he’s been doing it for feel like a hundred years I knew it I looked over at my partner Chris and I go he’s going to he’s going to stop him early cuz he

Always loves to like oh pull the whistle be like hey man hey I’m just I’m trying to make sure you get your best time like you didn’t stick it long enough I you just stick it like okay of course sack and so sure enough he stops him so then

The crowd like grumbles and then when he took off like you could just see he was moving at a different speed than everyone else like and the difference between a 42 and a 44 is massive like it really is like it doesn’t sound like a

Lot when you do like the simal cast like you’re a solid three to four yards ahead of a dude between a 42 and a 44 and that is absolute insane speed yeah insane speed like that dude that dude ran himself into the first round and get I

Don’t think he’s a phenomenal receiver I think he’s a very good receiver but it’s the same thing you talk about the kid from Georgia you can’t teach length and size you can’t teach that kind of speed and that’s a returner that’s all kinds of different things and with the

Possible return game changing in the NFL with kickoff returns and returns becoming more important like all those things that kind of guy probably ran himself into the late first round for sure and the greatest thing about that was we were sitting directly in front of

Him so he had to run right towards us and when he took off I swear to God he hit the 10 in one step and so we started so we obviously go with Bill wellie our strength coach director of strength at brute we love him and the minute you’re

With Bill he’s automatically telling you like good start bad start like he’s he can see everything and the first one Bill’s like wow I don’t know if I’ve ever seen that and then all of a sudden you see 425 and you’re like Bill’s like he’s definitely

Got it dude he’s got it so we counted his steps I think he took like 15 Steps 16 and a half 16 and a half in 40 yards yeah in 40 yards dude we can’t our length alone would not be able to do that like the way he was gliding it

Looked like he was walking on water and you just like the wind was pushing him across it was one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen so wait and you think about that guy running this route right like hand up like go momes just throw it throw it as

Far as you can I’ll get on I’ll get under it oh boy well that’s my question to you guys CU if you look at the all-time list of NFL combine best 40 times there’s some guy I mean Chris Johnson ran a sub 43 and he had a great

Career but it’s mostly dudes that their best moment was running a fourth two and a half combine 40 yard dash and and there’s there’s you can also look historically Like Larry Fitzgerald ran a 465 Jerry Rice ran a 471 so it and I’m not saying that hey

You can run a 471 and guarante to be a great game’s changed a lot since then buddy let’s not we’re not going to be rude we’re not going to be 42540 translate to actual football success it depends on how you use it and we’ve talked about that we were actually

Talking about that on the way into the into the last day but one of the things that we talk about is like this is football not track and if you can’t can’t get in and out of your breaks it’s going to be really hard and also taking

The physical violence over a long time these dudes are really tiny like you’re talking like a buck 75 and if all of a sudden a middle linebacker catches you across the middle there’s nothing that can save you we don’t know how long could it translate well absolutely if I

Can take the top off of a defense do you know how scared they’re going to become the rest of the day do you know how fearful they are going to be that this guy’s going to do it again and they’re going to look stupid twice there’s a lot

Of ways to use that the question is can we get him help can we get him the ball and when we do get him the ball does he catch it and as long as he does 421 could be one of the greatest things in the world speed is the most dangerous

Thing on the field and I’ve seen it personally especially when you’re playing against a guy that has more speed than you the panic in your mind is unreal and you’re talking about some of the biggest moments of your life and you’re like this guy could just run

Around me oh boy like all of a sudden your mind becomes very crazy and you think about that at DB you’re by yourself this dude’s just going to take off is he going to cook me is the safety going to be over the top depends I love

It I think it’s great but it comes down to once again can you stay healthy can we get you the ball yeah and I mean the romad dun for me with being as big as he was and running as fast as he did is more impressive than in my opinion than watching a

Washington run is that’s right Washington that right worthy excuse me worthy worthy worthy worthy like a 215b receiver running 44 is more impressive to me than a 175 receiver running a 425 because that’s what you talk about translation to the game right size speed agility right so he also ran

Like a 663 cone I think is what it is which is an absolutely bananas of him moving around like that and so the NFL’s always looking for bigger faster stronger and I think the only thing that may keep worthy out of the first round is people having PTSD with John Ross

Yeah like John Ross ran a 423 422 had the combine record forever I think the Bengals took him in the first round and he just could not play Receiver right like he couldn’t come out of routes they couldn’t take the top off couldn’t get it figured out that may be

The only thing that freaks him out versus you think of a guy like DK metf who is just a constant giant B body Target or Julio Jones big bodied targets like and Marvin Harrison’s the same way now he didn’t run but he would have been

A 4-4 guy maybe even a 4-3 guy and we don’t know that it’s part of why sometimes you don’t run at the combine you know leave a little mysteriousness to it but you know like Jeremiah just like Jeremiah wait till your wait till your pro day wait till your pro day man

You know hey I didn’t go to the combine by choice okay but you know you think about it and those big bodied receivers become more and more coveted by every single team I still think it probably goes Marvin Harrison w Jaylen neighbors or romad dun 2 and then

Neighbors 3 and then after that it’s kind of be pick your flavor type of wide receiver class by the way I do have Jeremiah’s Pro Day Results in front of me here from uh March 6 2014 is that we go here we go here all right get guess

The Guess the numbers here give me your your your bench press bench bench reps 21 21 it’ll give you the winter Bell I had 22 I got one taken away I popped my rib out at 19 when I was able to gut out two more

Yeah I bounced it a little too hard at 19 like through the skin or just kind of out of place out of place and then two more I want cuz I was repping out like 25 26 and priestap but then that rib did that hurt for like three weeks after

That and then was the first thing we did first thing we did was bench press sucked okay 40 40 yard dash I think it was like a 5’4 something slow as [ __ ] 5.37 hey there we go it’s pretty good pretty good kept it under 5’4 that was

The goal that was the goal three cone this was actually pretty good I think it was like a seven it was 78 something 763 yeah oo you were cruising around the cones man yeah hey I wasn’t straight line speed man I’m all agility cruising around the cones uh vertical jump 25 26

26 26 pretty good pretty good what was your height and weight uh I think it was like 308 66 66 and A2 or something like that 308 66 and A2 little boy it’s like a steel trap up here I know it’s funny how you can remember your own results never forget

That I think I had a broad of 811 uh 86 BR according to scout.com trash and then a 20 yard shuttle the shuttle run 20 yard shuttle 46 4.86 486 I knew there was in there 486 it’s not bad Prett good it’s pretty good at all got me undrafted your hands

Were to drafted nine and a quarter inch hands for Jeremiah okay enough to pick up a double bacon cheeseburger sometimes the hand size is always controversial man remember when Joe burrow got measured with like 9 in hands and he tweeted out remember can he pick it everyone was like dude can’t

Play can’t play in the league man these tiny Burger King hands right that’s all I could think about was that those Burger King commercials we it’s like how iOS hold it these tiny hands hands that was Dante c pepper 20 years ago 260 lb linebacker playing quarterback you know

Running a 4440 whatever it was I think I’m going to look this up did you guys remember watching Dante Play Back in the early 2000s I’m pretty sure he fumbled like 23 times one year yeah he would drop back to pass and like an ed rusher

Would create a gust of wind and the ball would fall out of his hand I should ate that popcorn that brings me to my mic by the way speaking of quarterbacks I need to hear Jeremiah’s updated thoughts on the rise of JJ McCarthy oh we when that

Tweet came out I was like Jay your boy’s going top five dud he’s lit so right now I just I just Googled he’s number three right well he’s it depends on kind of what rankings you look at but like I just pulled a mock draft from the athletic this

Morning and it’s got the Vikings treading up to seven for JJ McCarthy you had Ian rapor and a couple other guys went on TV and said hey based on what I’m hearing after the combine in fact somebody came out and said now there’s going to be the top four picks however

The trades work out are going to be quarterbacks and JJ McCarthy will be a top four pick and maybe some steam that he’s a top three Pick O but he wasn’t was as to throw as much as the other quarterback so it’s projection yeah there was a pass so let’s put it this

Way when we were watching the offensive lineman they brought up trenty Jones right they pulled a big graphic up and they put him up they like this guy zero sacks on 140 pass attempts 140 and everyone’s like ooh and I was like all that means is they only threw the ball

140 times that’s a preseason that’s a pre-season in the NFL right asked to throw 140 times in three games in the NFL you play for the Bengals you’re throwing the ball 65 times a game congratulations right you go play for the Vikings guess what Kevin oconnell can’t help himself uh third and three

Roll out boot right like he just can’t you can’t help himself that’s still a good sack ratio dude zero sack and 140 but then put it on the flip side they throw Joe Al’s number up there right and they’re like joal one sack on 390 pass attempts right like there’s a complete

Difference and I think that’s my biggest fear with JJ McCarthy is you didn’t see him do it you like you saw flashes and you saw it but like I didn’t see him have to take over a game and maybe it’s not fair putting this on because they

Were such a good team I me they had 18 players at the combine a new record a new record 18 players at the NFL combine so like maybe it’s not fair for me to be like well he didn’t do it it’s like well yeah you beat Everyone by 40 like I get

It you never had to be the guy to lead them down the field I mean did a little bit in that Bama game but I saw a lot of errant throws some of those throws at the combine were not great and you can say it’s timing you say it all thing but

Like wind there a couple gusts of wind you know but I’ll say this I watched him throw and then I watched Michael penck throw night and day different night and day different penx I I said this in the middle he’s the most accurate quarterback in this entire class

Compared to Drake May Caleb Williams Bo Knicks like I’ll put him up for an accuracy challenge against any of those dudes and I just didn’t see the same type of accuracy from JJ now the dude has a cannon right like they basically turned they basically turned the go ball

For the receivers the quarterback to basically punt pass and kick and be like all right quarterbacks who could throw at the farthest here we go right and McCarthy does have an absolute cannon on him but I just worry about putting him into a rhythm type passing offense of where he can go

I would have lik to see him run you know I would have loved to see what he can put on I mean he always talks about his athleticism and he’ll run it prod day you know but I would love to see him run but I just don’t see I don’t see top

Five I don’t see first round like I I really only see three first round quarterbacks if I’m being honest like I see Caleb I see Drake May and I see Jane Daniels the rest of them I feel like you could get them all in round two you but

That’s what that’s what that’s your eval my opinion that is my you know teams get desperate like at that position teams there’s especially with the fifth year option on a first round pick right teams might trade back in so here’s something else that everyone needs to start

Understanding too and hold on remind me of that I want to get back to that that that point of the the fifth year option and the tenders um I’m I’m just going to get a little agent speaky there but it’s just something keep an eye on teach us

But as you as you look at the quarterback position and you look at some of the other positions in this draft for example the offensive line position so deep with true first round Talent right and to stretch and none of those quarterbacks showed me in these throwing

Sessions at the combine that they’re the dude like none of them none of them penx was the only one for me that was like yeah you’re super like you’re the best thrower here but his Medical’s a mess right like there’s there’s a red flag with each one of them besides maybe JJ

In a lot of people’s mind I just personally I know people say I’m a JJ hater just personally you might be on the wrong side of History here we’ll see as a wise man once we’ll see and I’ll sit here and I will issue the public apology when he hoists the Lombardi in

His rookie years everyone else says he’s going to and I’ll just be like yep my fault I’ll eat my Crow he was the best thing since sliced bread but I just have a really hard time seeing it translate to the NFL game immediately I don’t and

I think I think maybe what a lot of people are hearing is what Jim’s telling him and I’m sure Jim’s telling him he’s smart to play for him you got to be a smart quarterback and so I think a lot of people are probably looking at that

How much do we need to develop him how far down the road is he where is he mentally does he know all these things can he make these checks is he good enough to go in there and start doing these things you don’t know what Harbaugh is telling people Harbaugh

Loves you dude it’s on like he’s your guy there’s no question and one of the things is to be one of his guys is hard you have to show up daily every sing it’s almost like you have to do more work than him for him to be like all

Right you’re pretty cool like that’s why I’m in my mind I’m kind of like like I don’t know how he is in the rooms maybe he is one of these guys that is just a monster when it comes to film and being able to see things you know one of those

Guys is kind of to me is burrow when you watch him play you know he knows where he’s going with the ball he did not just compare JJ MC no I’m saying mentally like when I see quarterbacks coming in the league right away that you’re like

Did he just kill that Pro I heard JJ McCarthy is better than Joe burrow I don’t we could go back and listen to what Alex just said again but that’s what I heard no I definitely didn’t but wait to wait to have a lying fine go

Ahead and hit him with that thank you so anyways when you talk about a quarterback that can instantly come in and see the x’s and those and be like oh yeah we’re good got it here let’s kill to this or check to this in my mind I’m

Kind of like okay I’m halfway sold we can get those throws done we can play an offense around him that likes it I’m telling you mentally these quarterbacks coming in that’s what I’m thinking they’re looking at and going hey can he hack it can he do it I got it I know I’m

With you 140 isn’t enough you’re like dude that was literally two games at one point in our career we were like how many times have we passed it but at the same time you talk about these teams that can are starting to look like I look at Atlanta and I don’t know where

They are right now everyone keeps talking about this Kirk thing and everyone keeps saying that he’s a great JJ is a great fit there and you say yeah because they have a great young running back and they still have talent on the outside he fits well into that scheme we

Want to run the ball we want to do a lot of play action off of it that’s why I see that going yeah that makes total sense to me that’s where you came from and at the same time if Harbaugh is telling everybody you are smart and you

Are dude rock and roll that’s why I’m kind of been like all right I’m starting to look more mentally around this it’s all these quarterbacks and I mean obviously people want to talk throw the generational Talent thing around that’s great you can have all the talent in the

World but the college game is so underdeveloped from a schematic standpoint that these dudes have no idea what they’re walking into and you know I brought it up in quite a few of my meetings of like hey what do you think about this quarterback class or what do

You think about this and are like dude it it’s hard because you draft a quarterback in the first round and especially if you draft him in the top 10 like you’re staking your entire job of everyone in the organization on that pick and if it’s a Caleb Williams or a

Drake May that comes from the Air Raid Offense you don’t know if they can even read safeties right you don’t know if they can truly read defenses or if they can truly flip protections or any of that based off of the film because it’s

So like spread it out throw it as far as I can one of these my fast receivers will go catch it like there’s no checks there’s no understanding hey at the cover six I’m hitting the corner route or hey at cover two I’m trying to put it

In that hole shot like there’s just a very little development in the college football game of the passing like the passing schemes and so I think that’s another piece that is so hard for these guys to evaluate of man look at all these throws or look at he’s throwing a

Wide open wide receivers all the time it’s like well is that because they’re faster than everyone else and schemed them open or did he read the true defense that was I feel like that was henden hooker last was like mid round on hooker and then you watch the actual tape it’s like he’s

Literally reading half the field and everyone’s wide open and he also four verts on every play and he and an injury so on pennx Penn penx has had four different season ending injuries now you never know where the information’s coming from but there were some reports that hey the Medicals looked way better

Than but that could also be coming from Pen’s Camp no one knows what the Yeah that’s what’s crazy too is you don’t know who’s starting rumors like so at some point just can’t believe any but I will say this Jay’s right when we were watching penck throw that dude put it on

The spot every single time and that was probably going to be my next mic the fact that some of these quarterbacks couldn’t hit a damn thing they were over throwing guys under thrwing guys and then you watch penck come in there and you’re like whoa like literally right in front of

The eyes every time I was like what but Sam Hartman looked great trying I will say that you know the hair slick back when he was running the 40 we knew instantly they that’s going to be a clip for sure I had a I had a Personnel for

That I’m not going to name like we were watching Hartman run and he literally goes that dude’s gonna crush it on CBS Sports in two years and I just started dying dude dying laughing like he’s going to look great in the booth like it just basically like he’s not his giant green

Tie right next toy Quinn like Brady Quin going for it there but I mean yeah I mean some of the quarterbacks like Joe Milton and I don’t even remember the kid’s name from Western Kentucky Western Kentucky was driving us buddy buddy buddy hit anybody like you imag being the receiver dude

The first go ball he threw the receiver turned around and caught it like a punt right like I thought he was going to call fair catch like stopped came all the way back I think he threw one like 10 yards out of and then everyone like got super

Enamored with Joe Milton from Tennessee because he could throw it 65 yards on a rope but then you watch him throw the out routes and he’s one hopping balls or it’s just whoa just a bit outside right like I don’t know the quarterback game in the NFL is such an accuracy thing I

Personally think I would give up some arm strength for more pinpoint accuracy oh all day long like if you could put the ball here instead of here I don’t care if you can’t throw it 60 yards on like a complete bomb sh look at pton Manning with the Broncos after the neck

Fusion surgery right I mean he he was like throwing end overend ducks for half of his passes but you know what they were right where they needed to be re Crossing routes Drew Brees with the shoulder the same thing he could put it on a dime but he couldn’t throw it over

45 yards and they were still out there in the playoffs winning and doing what they had to do and I agree with you 100% because the speed has changed in this game defenses are changing these D coordinators are becoming extremely smart we were I was talking to somebody

At the combine I can’t remember what kosher was we were talking about a cover zero that Flores has been doing lately that’s like a Zone underneath and I was like dude I never would have thought you could have been able to do and he was like dude it’s evolving it is becoming

More monstrous on us and we have to teach these guys so as we’re doing this we’re trying to learn with them to be like how do you block that up but it’s fun because you’re like man you got to have the most accurate throws in some of

These defenses cuz you think it’s about to be man and all of a sudden it’s Zone and all of a sudden this window’s closing fast that’s your only read and if you don’t get there you know it’s sack Sack City that’s why Jay’s telling

Everyone if you can put it on a dime we will take that over the 100 100 yard throw those are very rarely going to be happening you’re not going to be able to sit back there for five seconds and throw at 75 yards when Joe would take it

He was taking his five step drop and pausing he literally paused for like 10 seconds PA and then throw it be like dude that Ball’s got to go like if you pause like that you’re dead you’re dead like see that are they are they getting that feedback from the coaches on the field

Are they just let cuz guess what the TV loves it like no one wants to the coach be like yeah no one wants to be like throw it like they want to be like throw it as Fu when Sam Hartman runs his left hand fingers through his hair as he surveys the

Second somehow just lives his life in slow motion slow motion that’s great so okay just the the the fifth year option thing just to W this quarterback so here’s my here’s my question if you’re like if you’re if you’re a team like from like Vikings to Broncos to even the

Saints looking at life after Derek Carr life after cousins Russell Wilson but you’re you’re outside the top 10 right now are you better off just based on your evaluation Jay are you better off trading up the board and giving up future first round picks or going stud

At a different loaded position and then figuring out quarterback maybe later in the first round or second round there’s the Bon Knicks Michael pennick McCarthy yeah and then how does the fifth year option for if if because you if you draft a guy in the first round

You get the fifth year option second round not valuable for a quarterback yeah I think if you’re not drafting in the top five you have to be Bonafide 100% willing to sell the farm to go get your guy and you have to have all faith

In the world that if I trade up and I give up this year’s first and next year’s first and maybe a second maybe even a third like this dude’s going to work out if not I’ve always been a firm believer and let’s build your team around young studs in the draft and then

Get this team Built Well get the cap in a really good place and then if we have everything in place we can go buy a veteran seasoned quarterback in free agency unless you like I said unless you ready for like this is my guy then you

Draft him early and you take him and you build your team around him but it’s not worth reaching out of desperation in the first round just be like we need a quarterback let’s take one in the first round like you can get a quality backup developmental type receiver in the

Second and then have him be around and bring a guy in like a baker Mayfield or a Sam darnold or a bridge quarterback like a gardener muu for a year or so as you build around him with a great player I mean if you’re if you’re sitting there

At 10 or 11 and there’s a guy like Dallas Turner still on the board or Jared verse or these Edge rushers that are just freak shows you got to take those dudes like you got to take those dudes so I’m a big on that and the other

Thing is talk with teams more and more so what the NFL did in the new CBA is they wanted to make the fifth year option the restricted free agency and some of these numbers that you put on when guys aren’t true unrestricted free agents really big and the reason they

Wanted to make these numbers really big is because it forces teams to get guys to unrestricted free agency faster right so if you’re a first rounder and you’re sit looking that fifth year option number every year is getting really really large like I’m talking massive yeah because the idea behind it is we

Don’t want you to put the fifth year option on the kid we want you to extend him to a long-term career like fouryear type deal and so the NFL kind of tactfully did that where they’re like hey this fifth year option is going to

Cost your cap a lot it’s going to St and there’s nowhere to smooth it right there’s nowhere to smooth it right there’s no kicking the can down the road and so the idea I think the fifth year option you’re going to see a lot less

Dudes getting p up here in the next four five years under the fifth year option because it’s such a cap kill like and and the NFL did a great job with that but the issue is that trickles down to like the restricted free agents right so a restricted free agent tender for an

Original round tender is like $2.8 million right now when we were playing booty it was like 1.5 that was nothing and the issue is if you’re a roll backup player right especially in like a non- premier position like an inside linebacker or a running back or like a

Seventh or eighth guard or something like that on a team you’re never going to get tendered like they’re not going to spend $3 million on a backup position like that and the idea behind it like the NFL just like with the fifth year option is let’s get these dudes to

Restricted unrestricted free agency faster and faster but what the NFL didn’t kind of factor in is if you’re in that position and you’re a restricted free agent and you’re like Hey we’re not tendering you you’ve immediately put a marker on the ceiling of what that

Player is going to get play paid no no one’s going to be like oh you didn’t get tendered by that team let’s go pay that guy 3.5 million right it actually kind of hurts your market and you’re like oh okay well he’s never he’s 2.8 is the max

He’s going to get we could probably get him for two right and so like the thought behind process is good about it but it’s just going to be interesting because the same thing with the free agent tenders can’t smooth it over the cap right it’s a black mark 3.8 boom

Taking out of the cap right now so something to keep an eye on as we look at the fifth year option the restrictive free AG agencies we coming up going on here very few teams I think 10% of teams will restricted free agency tender United States going to be around 10 to

15% get the first year options too yeah so and that I think that’s maybe what you just explained part of the reason why you don’t see as many team like when the Vikings traded up to get Teddy Bridgewater they move back into the first round right like I think Lamar

Wasn’t Lamar Jackson or maybe the Ravens were just picking he was 32 he picked at 32 but you see those quarterbacks get sniped like late in the first round for that reason in the past but you might have just laid why it’s not it’s not as important anymore yeah yeah all right

Let’s do some dumb football questions here boys can I do one more hold on I got one more Soap Box I got one more I got one more soap box for the combine sorry sorry sorry ding listen I’ve been struggling of how I wanted to talk about this or if I even

Really wanted to talk about this but I watched six0 linemen hurt themselves at the combine this last week running a 40 like blown hamstrings quad groins like it’s got to change the offensive line portion of the combine has to freaking change and I don’t know

How we get it done and I don’t know who we talk to but it’s not worth the risk for these young men to go out there and take eight weeks to train for something that we are not naturally good at it’s not natural to us to be track stars and

To go out there and do the underwear Olympics and it’s hard for some of these guys to really switch into it and then to go out there and on the biggest stage you perform and you hurt yourself you pull a hamstring you pull a groin you

Hurt your knee you’re now going to look at the next four to six weeks of doing rehab instead of training to become a football player again the NFL has to be better about this there’s no reason to have Joe wal and Olu fashanu and Tris fuaga and these top tier guys running a

40 that’s not going to change on who you view as ot1 it’s not going to change who you view as og1 or oc1 or even down the board I really think the NFL is going to look at this and go we need to change this because if as agents and as

Training facilities you’re looking at this going what is the risk reward of having my guy run like is it wor it’s it’s TV right it’s it’s hilar wor their no but it’s not worth their careers and especially as a trainer watching guys go down you’re there’s no question there

There are wheels in motion that people are like this [ __ ] has to change we cannot keep letting the big boys do what they’re doing I mean somebody made a great Point even if Olu Falls one spot because his knee that’s millions of dollars that you will never ever get

Back you can never get that back all because what somebody at home wanted to see him run a 40 think those coaches give a [ __ ] what your 40 time is we had several and I mean 15 to 20 conversations with coaches that were like like I ever gave a [ __ ] like I care

What that looks like I had a coach make make fun of somebody and then go doesn’t matter cuz you can still reach the three technique I don’t give a [ __ ] I was like see nobody cares why are we doing it they were like dude we don’t know why

They’re doing it I mean that’s and that’s the other piece of the economics of it like Boon said if you’re Mackie if you’re if you’re supposed to be drafted at 9 and like you get a little dinged at the combine so that means you can’t do

Your prod day right and you can’t do the private workout or you can’t go do anything you can’t go on the Travel circuit because you’re rehabbing and all a sudden now you get drafted at 13 that is millions I mean like multiple millions of dollars or if you get dinged

At the combine and you drop out of the first CU you were a fringe first rounder and now you dropped into the second like they’re massive jump so I just pulled it up by the way so just just to put this into context for the audience so Olu

Fashanu now he’s saying he should be ready for his pro day but like let’s it’s in like a week and a half let’s say he’s not fully ready and let’s say oh sorry I guess Joe alt is gonna be higher up now and uh is it tiis Fu T tal fuaga

Yeah so like all of a sudden he goes from being the first tackle off the board at 7 or whatever and he falls to even let’s say he goes from Seven which would be total value contract $25 million mhm if he falls to 15 that’s a

109 million difference which I get a lot of people listening are like well it’s eight figures you just lost eight figures because you you ran a 40 we as big guys all agree we don’t want to do the 40m if you want to do the 10 and the

20 we’re cool with that I run 20 yards for you it’s the 40 that gets you you never see pull up at 20 like it’s always at like 35 when they’re digging that last and they’re really at full go stressing out they’re trying to get there they’re holding their breath like

In what scenarios you guys are running 40 yards on an interception that you’re or up the sidewalk on a screen pass or something like those are the only but even then 40 yards then you’re hitting someone or if the if the running back runs by me I’m not continuing to Sprint

Like the yeah there go see that’s the other thing if you’re running 40 yards something really really good is happening and you don’t care and you’re just all excited and you’re like no one’s timeing to me or something really bad has happened and you’re like please don’t you’re like checking both

Sides who’s coming hit me I know they’re like or like yeah I’m going to go run that DB that ran a 432 and I’m in double knee braces as I’m chasing you down running my 6140 here like I don’t know I don’t know it just it sat with me wrong

I felt like there was more alignment that got hurt this year than there was last year a lot of top prospects right I watched I watched Tyler gon I think pul is pul is groin I watched Ola Fano run 140 right I’m pretty sure Mims pulled his hamstring while running to you watch

John Prince Pines from Tain John Ram from Oklahoma like it just felt like you’re just sitting there watching one after another after another and you’re like dude these dudes train so hard to do something that’s so unnatural and now they’re going to be able to miss out on

The next time of being a football player that’s bad for the league right it it’s bad for the league because now you’re going to have guys that come in maybe you draft them later whatever it is and they’re not going to be in football shape so they’re going to be behind in

Rookie mini camp because you got to maybe get them back it’s just not good for the league the league needs to change it stop making the big guys run 40s that’s my Soap Box you that’s a great rant right there hey we should ding the league for that for

You can always hit us up in the YouTube comment section we try to get to as many as we can in this offseason we’re going to have so much time once like the free agency and draft run these shows are just going to be like dumb football

Question shows wait it’s going to be a blast let’s go with um [ __ ] l19 why can’t quarterbacks call plays anymore has the game gotten so complex that it’s impossible is he talking about so he’s referring to guys like Tarkington and stabbot called their own plays back in

The day and in college by the way every play quarterbacks are looking to the sideline for for something is there any freedom ever for quarterbacks to call their own yeah plays absolutely dude there are a lot of quarterbacks that can go in their head look Aaron Rogers can

Do it he can call any play he wants there are some Russell Wilson could do it I bet you Kurt Cousins could do it they could easily go through the whole roll of decks but the problem is exactly like you said when Roger stach was playing we weren’t check alert kill we

Were literally hey explain what that means explain what that means so when we get a play called the reason that they have a wristband is because there’s three plays in one and don’t ever forget that an alert series can be called anything at any time so you have to know

Plays off the top of your head but the check so you go in with the play we say we say 97 power this is to an over front we get an over front we’re letting it roll you’ll hear them all the time let it roll Let It Roll if we get an underr

We’re going to kill it to an underr friendly play so it could be some type of long trap could be some type of Zone could be some type of whack could be anything but it’s mostly going to go the other way so that’s how you know that

Right over under we’re either going or we’re checking and then all of a sudden there’s the alert series say they give us like a jam out of nowhere say they hit us with something exotic we’ll go automatically to an alert that’ll be just juicy for that single play so if

There’s Jam a lot of times we used to like to go down right into Power the other way because we would just Dallas everything down and then we’d long trap a guy and it was gone but at the same time he could get out there and be like

Hey it’s cover one let’s go boom and so now you’re like I was thinking run all the way and now we are in a seven step how the hell did I get here like you have to know these things right away how much of that is communicated in the

Huddle in the 15 seconds the whole thing hey we’re goingon to go hey paragraph Long play hey let’s go I right Z Mo 96 power kill uh 97 Force Zone alert Peter on one-onone ready that’s why you’re like whoa and if you’re the guy rattling all that off eventually over time they

Understand it all there’s not like you just look at them and you can see them going through their Rolodex and you’re like this is pretty [ __ ] sweet that’s do and so all of a sudden you see these quarterbacks coming from where they’re looking to the sideline and it’s just a

Twinkie and they’re like got it here we go it’s it’s not like that anymore like you have to know a ton of things you have to be the one diagnosing all of this you have to be the one killing us in and out like they’re not going to let

O liman do that a lot unless it’s a very Bonafide Center can he be able to go up there and go hey we’re going to kill this that’s why they’re constantly like wristband just read 38 you don’t have to think much as you’re reading it you’re putting it in your head together okay

This is my formation this where we’re running okay if I get this underr I’m killing it out of it dude there is a million things running through your mind I hear this and I am an outsider to the NFL world I’ve never been in an NFL huddle obviously and it gives me anxiety

Thinking like the the 60 plays you’re going to run and I’m sitting here trying to okay so we’re this is our main play but if we kill it I have to remember that but if we do this if we if be alerted to this like I can by the way

You have a snap count to remember and also there’s a werewolf standing across from you that Mur that dude behind you don’t mind right like not only you going through the mental the mental gymnastics of everything we just talked about there’s Aaron Donald acoss from you snorting and pissing all over himself

Ready to kill idiot fans like me are like come on Sirles why can’t you get why can’t you block you suck right funny story funny story one time we were down at the old uh Benson Stadium down in Louisiana and we had a call kill alert

And me and Mike got the kill wrong now the problem was the kill was power we both this thought we were mik was the opposite guard Boo in the ners by the way and so we get there and Cap’s like hey kill kill and I look at ad and I’m

Like yo I’m gone and he kind of looked at me silly and I was like I thought it was 97 power Mike thought it was 96 Power Mike was right I ended up pulling and we run smack into each other and it hurt so bad cuz I was not expecting it

And Mike looks at me like oh my God and all of a sudden the linebacker runs like it’s Frank by the way shout out s Frank Gore at the combine Consulting for the ners and I told him there would be nothing better in my eyes than if they

Drafted Frank Gore Jr while he was at the Niners he just broke all your records shattered him I was like Frank nothing would make me happier he’s such a great dude shout out Frank I love you to death everybody knows he’s always my number one you’ll never supplant him I’m

Sorry he’s a legend Man actually I mean back to the original point though of far as like the check mik kill also you have to remember gimpy whatever your name was I’m sorry I apologize [ __ ] like [ __ ] L [ __ ] L they didn’t have speakers in their in their brains back then right

Like you have to remember the second the whistle blows that coach can now speak to that quarterback until there’s 15 seconds left on the shot clock right so they’re basically having a dialogue with the quarterback from roughly 30 seconds 25 seconds of like hey here’s what we

Want here’s three plays right I think that’s sometime that people don’t understand too is a lot of times offensive cordinators there’s certain ones that are like I call plays you call my play other guys give suggestions right they’re like hey here’s three different plays right you pick one and

The those are the true vet quarterbacks and then like they can get up there and then the last thing is with like Philip Rivers I my first year they told me they’re like everything is live all the time right cuz you go into a game plan with your play

They’re like but Philip could pull something out of otaa week 2 that we haven’t ran since otaa week 2 and if he checks to it you better know what it is right so that’s the other piece quarterbacks are live all the time but yeah every play comes with a check alert

Kill very rarely is there a play that’s just straight up called and run so it’s a lot of mental gymnastics that goes on for everyone on that football field yep okay Bo mentioned Frank Gore I’ve I’ve had this question on the list here for a few weeks and I’ve just

Hesitated to ask it but third one about to come out don’t push that button don’t push it I’m talking about FR three F bombs an episode for Alex we’ll give you five actually if I ask this question he gets three don’t ask it then ask it don’t talk about from B

Flury Alex got in trouble for answering a question like this a few years ago on the internet but do you guys have any fun or crazy stories about playing with Adrien Peterson no I didn’t get to play with him that much he was hurt when I was here

H I want to tell some I do but do you have any fun any fun not going to get you there was a lot of guys that said when I first got there they told me like listen here’s the rule with Adrian because everybody knew Frank was going

To find the crease right like Frank wasn’t going to really run into anyone I remember Fusco and burger were like hey now that we’re in the core we need to tell you what’s up if you ever ever get in his way he is going to steamroll you really and then we started

Watching clips and like real clips and they were like Brody the ace has got to move now the deuce has got to go right now and I remember one time in walkthr he remember we’re in walkthrough and I come to Minnesota and walkthrough is not a walkthrough and I’m like listen then

Don’t call it a walkthrough that was one of my biggest issues stop calling this a walkthrough cuz in Frisco a walkthrough meant don’t touch me I’m walking through here it was live and we were running a quick ISO right to the to the uh to the

Left and I remember Burger looked at me and he goes this is it move now and I look up and it’s um who is our no tle l lynval and lyal’s like yeah I’m like you gotta be kid he ran into me yeah that that hurt that hurt real bad and then

Lynval with his like piece in my face like his elbow brace I’m like why is this a walk through why can’t I just put my helmet on God this sucks he’s famous for that when he first came in the league too Tony Richardson was his veteran fullback Chiefs just a legendary

Fullback and so there was a lot of times where Tony Richardson would have to so the play was called in the Huddle this is like 2007 rookie Adrien Peterson and then Tony Richardson would tell Adrien like okay here’s what you’re supposed to do on this play yeah and and so he was

Literally his his football guardian angel in the huddles and on the right and Peterson halfway through the year was asked about Richardson and he talked about I don’t really like playing behind a fullback because I need like he’s he’s trampling Tony Richardson on every play uh he’s yeah he’s famous for running up

The back of guards and fullbacks dude he got F camels at birthday parties which is why he’s yeah dude it was funny because you’d always hear F go like as soon as you get hit and I’d be like oh God poor fosco got hit I was talking to a coach

That interviewed Adrien at the combine uh when he was coming out and he was like dude it was the most fascinating interview I’d ever been a part of I was like do tell he’s like we bring him in right and in these formal interviews at the combine they pull up your tape right

So they pull up your tape so they pulled up Adrienne’s tape and he’s like all right Adrian you’re running outside Zone here at Oklahoma talk me through your eyes talk me through your track where are you looking at and he’s like I’m just running he’s like what he’s like

I’m I’m just running the ball okay cool we’ll go to another one well let’s look let’s go to a Duo scheme like goes to a Duo scheme like all right what’s your read Point what are you looking at here and he literally goes Adrien stopped him

And goes coach I just run the ball like and the coach like the coach goes got it sounds good and as he left the forb he’s like well he’s not going to be around there to pick when we pick but i’ take him right like and that’s just how he

Was he’s like I just run the football like I just go and he and he didn’t play on third down really even when he was running for they they would always have a Chester Taylor or a matad or somebody this is this is kind of funny Adrian

Story of a football field so I don’t know if you guys remember you you’ll remember Mackey it was 2015 we were playing the Lions like we’re playing the Lions in t TCF Bank Stadium right this before the the build US Bank was built and Adrien was in there and we were

Running a waggle protection right a true play action protection on first down which meant that the running back was involved in protection and so we all were block I’m on the sideline I wasn’t starting this game I can remember we’re blocking it up and I see them fire the

Sam backer which is Adrian’s guy and Adrien runs right by him like just right by him and as he runs by him he turns around like oh [ __ ] that’s my guy right and so he turns around and looks at Teddy like that and Teddy’s getting

Nailed and just like flips it to him and then he turns it takes it up the sideline for like a 90 yard touchdown like top 10 sports center like oh my gosh look at this screen that they ran like it’s so genius and then we get in

The film room it’s like ah Adrien gotta block that guy mental air but really nice job right like like what do you say to that complete f grade on the play but like H six points man appreciate you for that we need we need to find the PFF

Grade from that actual play so funny because literally the old line coach dude the old line coach was freaking out as it was happening right Jeff Davidson’s like damn it cuz he’s just sees Adrien run by the guy that all he just turns around catches it and away he

Goes like just that kind of stuff were like the the fan public was probably like wow what a design North Turner little play action screen Adrian Peterson it was just a complete blown assignment hey I will say there is a lot of times that that happens where things

Go wrong and it ends up being great for us and you in the moment you’re like I’m in so much trouble but at the end you’re like who cares like dude when you win this is funny when you win a game on the plane ride all sins are forgiven no

Matter what you did my son coaches come by and they’re like we’re fine we’re going to talk about it like but if you lose oh no no no no you’re getting it you work it’s funny it’s funny how we think about life all right it’s

Hilarious man yeah all right I got uh I got one more dumb football question then we’ll get to then we’ll get to we have we’re going to record a second episode so we’ll do this like in three to five minutes Kyle Alexander says what are your guys thoughts on the NFL being

Scripted oh yeah it definitely is it’s scripted Boon’s Boon’s falling more into this Camp more and more as we talk conspiracy Bo his his tinfoil Hat’s getting a little poiner every time we I made a joke over the weekend and I don’t think anybody thought it was funny with

With the audience I was with I’m so sick of this script and everybody looked at me like sh what’d he say I was like it was a joke calm down probably not the right place to say it uh I mean it’s not scripted not it’s really not there you

Can’t there’s too many moving pieces and parts there’s too many injuries I mean if anything yeah are we looking at are we looking at the refs sometimes to see what they’re doing yes I do agree with that the ref the only one that can control the script that’s the only

Script that I’ve ever really thought about because there have been times where we’ve even seen replays I’m not even kidding you there was a touchdown that was called a non- touchdown and we were like there’s zero chance you didn’t call that a touchdown and they were like

New York said no what do you want us to do okay cuz that’s the piece for me that’s getting more and more fascinating they suck New York is when they’re like oh we got a call from New York it’s like somebody there in the sky can now call down and

Be like hey incomplete and be like what I said incomplete like okay no touchdown incomplete like but there’s but there’s only so much refs could do because the certain things are so obvious right like if a if a player scores a touch now walking in you can’t maybe you could call a holding

Or something before the play plays out but if you think of I’m going to go down Boon’s path all right the refs and the New York mysterious review Booth could be in on it the players it’s it’s too hard there’s too much promise the coaches and the play

Callers could be in on it no you got to remember for our jobs do you know them do you know what is Andy Reid does when he goes home at night I can promise you one thing when those doors close you see the truest people you’ll ever see and if

You’re not that person on Sunday don’t you think guys like me would be coming out more Campbell just uh slips in a a rogue bad play call there you know to the offensive coordinator the analytics yeah the analytics of that’s the thing you can hide behind crazy play calls now

And just call it analytics yeah like we got to break ATT tendency we had to do fourth down analytics said go for it it’s like did it Dan Campbell it’s uh it’s now twoo conversion from the 3 Dan that’s number one Fanboy easy easy there’s no script I don’t mean it’s

Still football’s the purest competitive sport there is okay okay just want to make sure just want to make sure those are your dumb football questions for the week here your tin foil hat segment we should do an Alex Boon tinf foil hat segment of the

Week I love it I love it all right dudes we’ll see you on the uh the other side for a Quarterback free agent speculation Bonanza episode this is the o line committee Alex Boon Jeremiah Ser Phil Macky

  1. So much Bengals love today! Whodey homies! Love you all and listen to your show all the time.

    DUMB FOOTBALL QUESTION:
Any great fan interactions that come to mind as you read this? Theres a lot of us who are big fans of O lineman. Just wondering if there were any crazy fans going nuts and how you took it.

  2. Entering year 3 of the 4 year deals for KOC and Kwesi: what do they need to do in order to earn an extension? What should their 'performance goals' be? Especially if they commit to this 'rebuild', I don't think it's unreasonable to think that the Vikings aren't world beaters in 2024… So what do we need to look for as fans, to avoid completely panicking about these guys over the next year+

  3. 3:44 I love you mackey but are you actually putting a damn "F-bomb quota" on a guy who played guard in the NFL? It doesn't let Alex be his true genuine self. If people are watching this show they don't care about the word fuck, it's not like this is on the radio. Boone is right that is super lame

  4. Hey Iv wanted to see you get Boone and Tyler forness on the same show I would love to hear Boone set him straight it would be legendary comedy 😂

  5. Dumb question…do players ever give intentionally bad interviews to teams they don't want to be drafted by?

  6. They are bringing headsets to college now. Probably wont see as many power 5 teams using signs on the sidelines for checks

  7. Dumb football question.

How often do guys get cut at training camp cause they can't mentally handle play calls?
In high school we had a beast of a player that after the QB made the call, he would turn around and tell the dude what to do.
Always wondered how many freak athletic dudes just couldn't get the mental part of game down.

  8. Top 10 O-Line should just come out and say they are not running the 40. Then go on the big stages with Rick Spielman and Chris Simms and just say why; spent the time doing agility training to improve my kick slide or whatever. The media will eat that up, folks will say I don't care how fast they run, and we all move on.

  9. What happened that there needs to be an f bomb counter? Allowing Boone to fully express himself makes the show even better. I’d pay for the uncensored version.

  10. Penix medicals and age are concerning. (Compare Penix age 20 and McCarthy age 20 for apples to apples for instance.) But my main issue with Penix is that he is immobile. Thet is a deal breaker for me if I’m trying to win a Super Bowl. Defenses are too good in the modern game. Your QB has to be able to extend plays and win off script. Penix will have all of the same issues that Cousins has. No thank you.

McCarthy is young and athletic with NFL size and arm talent. There are elite QBs without elite accuracy. Arm strength is more important than accuracy in the modern game. Talented receivers with huge catch radiuses can adjust. While insanely quick DBs and LBs mean you need a ton of zip to fit into ever shrinking windows. And dude is young enough to improve his accuracy.

All of these guys are a crapshoot, but my preference for the Vikings is Maye > McCarthy > Williams > Daniels > Nix > wait until 2025 and also maybe take a flyer on Rattler or a late round guy.

  11. Trade back!!! Acquire more draft picks and solidify the DL/OL!!!! Do NOT trade up!!! Do NOT mortgage the future on a questionable qb,….because they all are questionable!!!

  12. Dumb football question – what does the future of the nfl look like? Multiple guys that can throw the ball? More regular designed laterals?

  13. My question about JJ McCarthy would be… if Jim didn’t have Justin Herbert in LA, would he draft JJ with the number 5 pick? I would say no.

  14. I’d like to hear what the guys think about blocking for a left handed vs right handed QB and what kind of adjustments the offense would have to make if the Vikings were to draft Penix

  15. Lol Trente Jones was Michigan’s 6th OL who only started a few games. Joe Alt was ND’s starting Tackle all season.

You’re using that comparison to make a judgement on JJ McCarthy? That’s just stupid.

  16. @TheOlinecommitee Larry Fitzgerald didn't run a 4.6 at the combine. He didn't run until his proday where I believe he ran a 4.50 so let's get that right please.

  17. Not a question as such, but when Alex was talking about the kill alert system he was saying certain plays, long trap iirc, works well against under formations. Could we get a segment on how they all work, so what the D is doing, what that's meant to do, and what the O will do to counter it? Maybe something for after the draft, when there's not a lot of content coming out.

  18. I will watch this show cause I know Jerimiah isn't high on McCarthy like me. I'm sick of Thor and Tyler putting McCarthy on the level of a god at the qb position. The way they talk about him you'd think he was the 2nd coming of Mahommes…🤣🤣🤣 Pretty funny cause watching Mahommes pass and McCarthy hand the ball off in college there's quite the difference. If the Vikings want another Ponder experience move up to get Thors god…lmao If McCarthy should now be sneaking into the top 3 qbs I'm going to be the next President of the US…🤣🤣🤣

  19. Why should the linemane run anything more than a 20 yd sprint? You never see lineman downfield 40 yds unless a td was scored and they go to congradulate people but they arent sprinting there…🤣🤣 Its a stupid nfl combine drill for lineman as far as Im concerned.

  20. Now this is my kind of podcast. Jerimiah has my same takes on the qb's and yes Penix is WAY more accurate than McCarthy. Im not a hater but a fact checker. If, like J says, he turns out to be a star I will admit Im wrong too. But if hes a bust I want people to say " oh yeah you guys were right" but that will never happen. I dont see Thor or Tyler admitting they were wrong either. It just scsres me that 3 weeks ago McCarty was rated by PFF(its what all nfl teams use) was going in the mid to late 2nd round. Now what he throws in the combine and he is now a top 5 pick in the 1rst round? Im really confused because all I saw was he could throw hard and long doesnt mean hes accurate on a slant or out route or a deep route…🤔 I think its rediculous in my book which is why I think if the Vikings move up for him Id be baffled and it could be another Ponder move…🤔🤔🤔 If it turns out like that the fans are going to rip the Vikings every time they pick a qb.
