What is going on gang welcome to status update number eight it is Monday March 4th the morning we got the cognizant classic rolling in case you see some light flashing on and off my face we we had a a jam-packed week with I mean comments from players play from

Players uh a weather delay PGA Tour screwing the pooch pretty much when it comes to the final round there at PGA National uh and we got a big week ahead with another live golf tournament the API the Arnold Palmer Invitational one of my favorite events on the PGA tour

And uh you know major season is rolling around here shortly about a month away from the Masters some news we got to attend to some players we got to attend to if I am a little distracted like I said it’s because I got I got golf on there’s

Nothing better than Monday Morning Golf like Lucas GL Glover Ricky Barnes Beth pige black that Monday finish shout out to Ricky Barnes wonder what he’s up to with the painters cap one of the all-time great looks on the PJ tour uh but but I think first we’re a little behind the ball

With the news that’s what happens when you do a once a week show and as is typical in the world of golf if you haven’t noticed by now news drops on Tuesday every time it’s always Tuesday and this time you know who we’re gonna talk about we’re gonna talk about

Tayor gu we going to talk about his comments about the major championships about Rory mroy Etc so talking to Golf Digest Australia or Australian Golf Digest I don’t know why they have two gu said this I think the majors have kind of shown that they’re not getting on board with

Liv Joo walki Neiman went outside of Liv and played some great Golf and they rewarded him for that so hopefully the day will turn where the majors decide to start rewarding good play on live hopefully that’ll be sooner than later innocent completely innocent then he

Goes on to say if Rory mroy goes and completes his career grand slam without some of the best players in the world competing there’s just going to be an asteris it’s just the reality I think everybody wins whenever the majors figure out a way to get the best players

Than than what it actually is individual live golf champion right three-time winner last season people are saying he’s one of the best players in the world he is call himself one of the best players in the world top 50 sure in top 50 should get into the Masters so I think there’s a

Couple things you could take away from this where gu shouldn’t be the one saying this right if it was someone like Patrick Reed who won his major championship in 2018 the fiveyear exemption is up he’s out of major championships because of that I’d listen to that argument if Brooks

Kea didn’t win the 2023 PJ Championship well you know what would have happened 2024 would have been a huge year for him because his last major came in 2019 in the fiveyear exemption if it was someone who had done something on the major championship stage not someone who is without a top

10 finish I think there’s Merit to that argument and I also think he kind of got dunked on for saying something he didn’t really mean even Rory mroy said he’s going to give him the benefit of the doubt and I think he was just using an example right

But but it’s also we got to sit here and say there’s not an asterisk on padrick Harrington’s M championships there’s not an aster on Sergio Garcia’s Masters when Dustin Johnson fell down the stairs there’s not an aster on wendam Clark’s 20 23 US Open win because Taylor gu wasn’t in the field and

So I think for GU you got to realize your place in the game this is a guy who he even mentioned Wen Neeman has been traveling around the world he won on the international stage he won on the DP World Tour we’ll get to aen later and he

Got rewarded for it because of his International play and his previous ties to Augusta National he won the Latin American Amer back in the day gu he got boned by the usj last year no doubt about it he was in the US Open they changed the qualifying criteria

Where it was if you qualify for the Tour Championship you are in and he did qualify for the Tour Championship the year prior and they changed it to if you play in the Tour Championship Ur in but he did not play in the Tour Championship because of

Shot rounds of 76 76 74 he he finished in 53rd Place not 54th Matthew wolf withdrew so still dead last still 33 Strokes behind walki Neeman still very far from the player we once saw 12 years ago probably 14 years ago and because of this you have people saying he’s he’s

Done it’s a a sow it’s just live golf trying to make noise which partially is true but 76 12 years away from pref professional golf I know the golf course was playing very easy par 70 7,000 yards not a lot of rough win picked up here and

There but I I think you have to look at it in the context of this dude hasn’t played in 12 years in the professional stage it’s pretty good all things considered pretty good to go 76 7674 now the problem with Liv is as he slowly improves his form which

He should you would think this is the worst it’s going to get the interest level is going to fall off there’s going to be an intersection where he’s playing great golf but you know no one really cares anymore because great golf for Anthony Kim his ceiling

It might be a top 10 on live golf he’s not going to play major championships again he might not ever win again what his ceiling is is really going to determine this but as Anthony Kim’s form Rises interest might level off and it goes back to what I said last week and

Me that’s what the money’s for stop complaining about o wgr points you knew or you should have done your due diligence on it that this was a risk when it came to going to live golf so with SP your $4 million shut up and play golf

Oh I sound like one of the shut up and dribble shut up and dribble I’m getting old it was my birthday last week and i’ I’ve been thinking about Liv golf’s dilemma when it comes to owgr points because I’ve been thinking this whole time what if Liv just rolled out

A league at the very beginning that was already owgr compliant what would the landscape of golf look like where would players be how many more players would be with live golf probably all of them right that’s really the only thing going against them at the moment

And I’m live golf you look at what thegr wrote in their dissenting opinion when they did not give them owgr points this past fall there are two issues one the qualification The Avenues the fluidity of players within the league they don’t like the guaranteed contracts right if if I mean Phil actually played

Pretty nice this week in Saudi Arabia but for example if Phil Mickelson is outside the top 50 in every tournament he’s he’s going to be in live next year because he has that guaranteed contract owgr didn’t like that how did Live come back they added live golf promotions they’ve got the

Uh they dropped players like Chase Kea Shian Kim might have been a part of it too and they added players like call amua Kieran Vincent Andy ogal Tre okay that’s great but the other Bugaboo that the owgr had was the team component which I’m not going to pretend

Like I know what the Saudi piff Governor Yas is thinking with the team component people report that he loves it big team guy the team the team the team but they didn’t like how that live go golf Orlando so Bas Munoz admitted he admitted he played differently because

Of the team he was battling Brooks kept good down the stretch there last season he was one stroke back on the final hole and instead of going for Brooke trying to make birdie trying to catch Brooks he played safe played it to the middle of the

Green because the team was winning and a par would have secured the team championship it did he came in second individually but that’s that affects players how they play and so if I’m live golf here’s what I’m doing to try to get owgr points in 2025 I’m making it my

Number one priority to appease the owgr and this is what I’m doing I’m aing the teams not completely but for the majority of the events the team component gone you’re you’re hearing me correctly and for the let’s say four team events 10 individual events you have to plac the 10 individual events

Strategically around some of these major championship owgr cutoffs so at the end of the year when everyone’s trying to get owgr points they’re playing in Australia on the DP World Tour you know what you do you had a couple Live Events there as well that way guys you can play

On the DP World Tour you make a massive Australia swing out of it for the entire month it was your most successful event to date the entire month you win over Australia and you get to that top 50 for the Masters cut off at year end I think

That’s one way to do it you can begin your year with a team event that’s fine how you do that I I think it’s uh you use like the year end standings from last year have them draft do the alternate shot oneon-one matchups do the uh stroke play whatever you want do four

Ball you can get creative with it begin your year with a team of them and then leading up to the Masters you do the same with the individuals because the week before a couple weeks before the Masters if you’re inside the top 50 you get an invite and you do this strategically

Based on cut offs for major championships and I think this would theoretically appease the ow gr R and you can keep your team component you just have to realize those might not be owgr sanction events but because live golf franchises are going to be worth three four 500 billion

Dollars one day According to some you get to keep them that way they’re worth it if they’re worth that much money right and on the other end of the spectrum you get owgr points it might not happen in 2025 right but if you show them that you’re willing to do that

It could happen in 2026 okay that’s uh that’s really it I could have talked about Rory mcroy today Rory mroy now has a triple bogey in every single tournament that he has played this season on the PGA tour he made a triple at Pebble Beach he made a triple at Riviera and on

16 right in the mix there at PJ National Rory mroy makes another triple bogey he’s driving the ball fantastic the iron play looks very sloppy at the moment the decision making I think his patience ran a little thin he was rattling off a few birdies there on the back dine But ultimately his

Aggressiveness bit him in the butt he’s trending though he’s trying to Trend and Peak for the Masters he’s in the API he’s in the players he’s playing in Texas busy busy month for Rory mroy and you can see him slowly but surely get there which sounds weird for a guy

Who won a couple months go in Dubai but it is obvious for Rory marroy to start winning again which we expect him to every single time he tease it up he’s got to get rid of the big numbers because they have killed him at the AT&T Pebble Beach pram the Genesis

Invitational and now the cognizant classic there’s some other news that you know just came across my desk I didn’t think it was news to tell you the truth uh but allegedly per the dealbook summit dealbook we already knew LeBron was in it but there are new players investing in the PGA Tour names

Coming out LeBron James LeBron JS Drake Maverick Carter Chris Pratt Rich Paul all of these guys are now investors in the PJ tour Enterprises LeBron obviously has ties to Fenway Sports Group who owns Liverpool the Penguins and of course the Boston Red Sox and so more and more wealthy

Individuals are are getting a piece of the pie and a piece of what the PJ tour could possibly look like in the future so begs the question are we going to be seeing LeBron Rich Paul Maverick Carter Chris Pratt and some of these proam moving forward who knows it’s just uh some interesting
