It never mind the fact that you know Barbados and Canada sort of share or have sh shared the same yes you know yes Monarch but you know it’s always had a Canadian flavor you know Patrick husbands you start there and um this year with Ted um you know he got a
Little bit of coverage from Woodbine just a little bit but you know I just thought you know it’s important to um pump up big races attract and people that are are really trying to get their sport out there and um I want to see it
I want to see it Thrive as well yes Ricardo I had Jerry the Nipper as well it’s a good thing I didn’t have uh uh good thing I didn’t have money uh betting on the race because I would have not had that exactor well I didn’t mind cash Equity
But I didn’t see portfolio company really and how fascinating Jen he was he was training well though he was training well he looked good out there on every morning he just was aggressive and but we didn’t know if that was just him being you know
I mean but it turned out that he was showing you that he was ready to roll I saw something there just now by um Derek Lynch saying that Ricardo Santana will be ready to go cup next year and I think it’s good to hear these kind of wow um

Beach crew is that you know you don’t go too too many tracks where you got a big big race coming up and it’s 20 minutes to post and then you look at it again and it’s 33 minutes to post and then 37 I mean I’m sitting with my girlfriend and we’re watching on
Computers and stuff having a glass of wine and I’m like did that just change from like 20 something minutes to 37 yeah and then I thought that maybe my you know my computer was messing up or my laptop whatever so you know those kind of things are just you know it’s
Not major but you know it’s embarrassing Jen don’t say that it’s embarrassing because if you want to take this thing serious you got to you got to go to the time of the race if not internationally we can’t do this properly you know what I mean and I’m I’m talking about you
Know I mean being on not barbad time being on International time you know mean race has to go to time orse you lose your slot when people are watching you know what I mean J no I know no I mean you know people betting on Races you know
You don’t want to have a lot of time between races and then when you start adding on and doing Post Time drag and all this stuff I mean okay so the race goes off maybe five six seven minutes after it’s scheduled post time but you can’t have it like 30 minutes

You know and you know they offer wagering at K Manis Park so why not and I’ve been asking but you know you can’t have you can’t have a race coming up it’s 20 minutes to post and then you look up and it’s 37 minutes to post and
Then it’s 38 minutes like you know it’s just uh no that’s not going to work and it’s like Ted says you know what if they’re paying for satellite coverage well at Ajax Downs that’s what happens we you know we pay well Ajax pays for to be on Robert’s you know television and
HPI for a certain amount of time and we can’t go on late or it’s gon to cost us like piles of money for every minute so um Iran says from a broadcast point of view I advise the Barbados Turf Club to shorten the parade and entertainment to

With the right people and the right support changes can be made but how drastically can we make those changes and how everybody’s going to have their say of what they need to do and what they and I mean myself too one my thing was the bend you know what I mean for
What I see but the the loading of the horses etc etc things need to be changed but we can knock them we can beat them down we can do all the things we want to say and do but I just think they need the right people
In there to help out and people that willing to listen and understand what it’s going to take to get to that next level especially in a day like the Gold Cup day I mean people it’s I haven’t been down here in 7 years I’m G been to
Go Cup in God knows how long and I’m telling you man the atmosphere everything about it was damn good good you know what I mean it was damn good and if if they just want to stick keep it at that with you know all the parades and the concerts and the
Whole bit and then and they don’t you know and they’re and they’re having a great time and and the fans love it they don’t really care what time the Gold Cup goes off and L then that’s fine but it’s a question of do they want you know
Wagering from out of town if they do then they gotta tighten things up handle handle is on and handle of course uh who brought us as when Flores to Woodbine a couple years ago he said I almost missed my flight because of that delay but but I mean hey I I understand
What we’re saying with all these things but let’s let’s let’s just Enlighten the show a little bit more about the positive things about what’s happening here though I I totally I’m not disagreeing and disputing what you guys are saying they’re good things though yeah but there’s changes that has to be
Made and changes that if they don’t want if they don’t in in order to go forward they have to make changes but I I wanna I want to give the excitement to the fans out there of what this day felt like and what was this day was all about
You know what I mean and to see the crowds and to see the and feel the atmosphere and the great things that a lot of these Young Writers and stuff down here done as a barbarian I mean I’m damn proud you know but we have to make
Changes and it have to be done now like we have a year to prepare from Saturday gone yeah it doesn’t have to be like giant you know drastic changes over just tighten it up you know someone said here um edwiin weeks the entertainment can start earlier or do do a parade between
The couple of races and then do the something else and you know it’s it’s it’s easily done and yeah Club has online betting for smart devices I mean I was going to sign up well I did sign up but I didn’t actually end up betting because I thought Jerry the Nipper was a
Cinch and I knew he’d be low odd so but no nobody you’re right uran we’re not knocking the parade does not go the entire track so if you’re behind adjust the parade a little bit John Mark said it was a great atmosphere yeah it was wonderful man Pierce and her team thank

Mean it’s their colors you know but like I said the one of the one things that I would like to start with with the changing is the B because the the the Turf Club needs it that so they can you know I mean better things in for for next year
And the Bing is the first thing I would start with because they they can’t afford to to lose that Revenue knowing that the regular season that they don’t get a lot of betting because guys are betting on the sides and stuff by theel so on that one day they can make up for
So much you know what I mean I and I talking about the revenue because businesses need Revenue to in order to go forward you know what I mean hire some extra help on that day whatever the case may be because now they in the infield they have private people having
Private um you know tents and stuff like that and having people coming in there so and those people are asking them to have a better machine in there for that and for the crowd that’s there and for the people that’s there which is great so help you know help us help them and
And let’s go forward with that and that’s the one of the things I need I would like to see start I know the delay the times and stuff like that but we’re in barbar where we like entertainment and we like you know I mean splishing splashing a little bit which is nothing
Wrong with that but the economy part of it I would like to see the change made first oh yeah I mean I’d love to see them you know and I even asked I can’t remember who I asked but I thought I wonder if the beding do they do they
Keep do they keep track of bedding I would like to know how how the day was with bedding and whatever food or whatever like um you know I don’t know if they announce these kind of things or talk about it was the biggest crowd ever
Or the biggest bedding Day Ever I mean I don’t know and again maybe that’s not on the top of their priority list it’d be interesting to know those facts Tyler gasin wants to know how you going to put on a put a blanket on a horse
That just ran two and a half laps of the track good point yeah handle says good points Leroy yeah for me one of the most memorable experiences in racing for me that’s saying a lot from handle because he’s uh had a lot of different roles in
Racing he’s uh raced horses at a number of different tracks so um that’s saying something Damen Simpson that’s why they asked you to bet the day before uh this is years going this going on but nobody really wants to bet the day before okay all right so since I’m GNA comment on
This here too right because I heard people com and asking me what the odds on the horses they better on horses that they don’t know the odds on so you got that typical better the guy that just coming in because he wants to bet he
Says he bets on the Gold Cup but then you got the Gambler that knows more understands the game more that wants to know the odds of the horse he’s betting on you know what I mean so things like that that I would like to see the
Changes on so you know if you’re going to have online betting these guys wants to be able to know hey this is the this is the morning line and then the ODS can change things change from there so those are the things that I would like to see
Change you know what I’m saying so was okay to say you know what I mean you bet in the night before but how about an idea what you’re betting on and so you go from there everybody knows Jerry Den Nipper was going to be the favorite on paper it say
That he was going to be the favorite but just an an idea because once People BET early and the betting starts to change as the the procedures goes out throughout the day thank you Tyler yes you guys did a great job promoting the race it felt
Like there was a hype around the race again oh there sure was I mean it was just uh you know uh from Sha and Leroy down there and all that Hammer you guys out there busting your butts and getting all the interviews and stuff and uh it
Was really good I enjoyed writing but I like to bet when the horses are going into the gate well yeah I mean so everybody’s got their own different style and every different way of betting right so that’s the thing you know what I mean so you know there just again that’s the one
Thing I would like to start with first but the atmosphere of the was nice seeing Leroy after the Gold Cup race and good spirits standing in line to cash giving me some knowledge while he was waiting this is from Jamal you were cing against your own jocky wow there
Were there were there were four horses I bet in the race Jen oh there was four horses I bet in the race half the field I well you know I like three horses in the race like I told the guys and you know Lyn love one of horse
So you try to put the forom together listen guys Ed one is the back okay well let’s let’s no mean we can’t keep he was there he was there as well so he can tell us about his experience hear man is his agent there with him too

Know the whole the whole trip U from the start I had an amazing experience I want to thank uh joh Mark for giving me the opportunity of um riding his horses and uh the way he treated me uh as a family member was um just great uh I’m very
Thankful for him and also for Ted hm that made all this happen um he was a big supporter of me and uh connecting me with John Mark and this all all started wow yeah now how long were you down there um before the uh before the Gold
Cup I was about there uh like two weeks before wow so yeah I spent some some time with family and uh you know I got accustomed to so of course I missed them all and I can’t wait to go back there and see them again and I had an amazing
Experience wow how was it right on the track how was it right on the at the Garrison I mean do you have to make any adjustments to get accustom because you won your first start so I mean you you you hit the ground running yeah uh I
Mean the track is is different right the you know the way the track is shaped um it’s completely different from anything that I’ve experienced so it was a little bit of a I wanted to get that first race off the way uh you know get get used to the the crowd and
Um the turns um I just I was couldn’t wait to uh go out there and um perform uh I got to give it to the track people whoever’s taking care of that surface that track is it’s it’s in great shape it’s got a good give into it uh the
Horses uh none of the horses I rode had any issues traveling through it so yeah the track is phenomenal that’s good to hear yeah um John Mark John Mark just came on and said that you are now your Le his legally adopted [Laughter] son yeah and Ted Ted holder wants to
Know if you met the pet monkey monkeys yeah he’s got a bunch of monkeys down there one of them just kept trying to bite my feet the first day until the last day yeah I had careful the whole time every time I you know I had to check the
Back to see where that monkey was pretty protective monkey Noise Okay so well you won so you won the first race um so you had what you had three mounts on the day five five sorry five yeah five and you won two yeah that’s right great well the
First and the last race right first and the last started ball rolling and finished it I mean that was so awesome well this uh this last race of of course it’s a spa Sprint so it’s a group one in Barbados it’s a very famous race on a
Gold Cup day and of course it’s a Sprint the spa Sprint and there was lots of good horses people follow racing there in the last couple years Dominus was in there um a whole bunch of familiar names ziko H for John Mark and Zed um so let’s
Uh let’s see uh let’s see that race Hammer if you can get it uh get it queued up for us and we’ll uh we’ll check out ES1 Flores uh what number you were on the outside I think the E nine the eight eight okay so let’s uh let’s queue
Up the the spa Sprint which was the last race um I don’t know what time that race went off at midnight no I don’t know and away they go the Sandy Lane Spa Sprint 2024 and as expected domus comes right from on the outside and takes it up
Brena pass is in second position going down on the outside sweeping by ziko in third position now we find that is Ser JY on the the outside of them traveling nice is forc Y be and at the back of the fears is show the money that’s the way
They race as they pass Brigade house and up front is Dominus in front now by about three parts of a length ziko is in second third position is force hum traveling in nicely also traveling nicely is Sir Jimmy be is there then Brandon pass and show the money is now
Getting into the race as the pass the M marker and Ray Williams is still very very very statest on Dominus as they come to the top of the lane and it is still Dominus in front on the outside here comes ziko and down the stretch
They come and it is on the outside it is zahed zahed is picking up up put him away zah wins the spa wins it now from Dominus ziko was third then Bren a pass sir Jimmy then came um on the outside was forced to humor
Show the money and be AER in 105 and two but there’s no doubt about the winner Z so Jean Mark said this horse broke his upper jaw in October and most thought that he was done wow wow did you know about the broken jaw Edan H he did tell
Me about it um but you know uh from the time was there uh this man John Mark he’s so um focused and dedicated to um his training uh the way he feeds the horses the way he uh he just takes care of them uh the Grooms the his whole team
Um yeah there’s no doubt how uh he can turn a horse around well I’m amazed because I watched the race and I thought you know I sort of I haven’t you know I haven’t seen Z race all that much I just would have assumed he’d be you know battling on the
Lead or but I mean you were cool as a cucumber back there the race isn’t that long what is it five eights five and a half five and a half right and you know you’re back there C Co is a cucumber and then tip out wide sounds
Like a standa bre yeah moved out wide and and the horse just went off easy he yeah again you know is the confidence that uh I had knowing how this horse was so ready and um that was uh just full of confidence and knew uh he was uh pretty pretty ready for this
Race well somebody saying here Damen Simpson said that the workout I guess there was a workout that was on racing scene live that you must have worked the horse and uh the horse worked very well I guess yeah we worked uh a week before the race yeah very good so that must
Have been thrilling then I mean winning the first race that’s great but winning the spa Sprint I mean that’s that’s a famous race there yeah and like you mentioned you know that there there was a a lot of nice horses there for that um that distance so it was pretty thrilling and
Um I feel really good uh getting the job done for Mr Mark so okay um go ahead I just want to ask you about soave’s run because I just you know he ran so well in the race last year and you know it didn’t run poorly it’s just
I don’t know how the race went um as far from your perspective uh how did the race go from your perspective that the Gold Cup and so swap well you know there was a lot of nice horses as well um cash Equity U portfolio uh company right yeah yeah
Yeah I mean uh he he he ran uh his race and it was just uh you know better twet uh we didn’t get the the win but uh I’m happy how uh he ran and just uh he came back uh healthy and he’ll he’ll be back
At the track soon can’t wait to see how he performed that’s good yeah it was definitely a tougher race this year there’s no no no no question um John Mark said he was out class Point Blank but he never stopped running different class of horses yeah it was uh you know
The good news is for the Barbados Gold Cup that it was a you know a really good field and it’s getting better every year the bad news is a nice horse like so Suave who tries hard every time it’s gonna get tougher for him like he’s just
You know he’s just not quite there you know but um anyways it was a good day for you so go ahead Leroy you had a question no because I want to not just talk about the race and stuff like that Edwin you come into Barbados and I just
I mean I grew up here with these horses and this is what made me who I am today the Garrison Savannah but you got the opportunity to do something like me working from the farm and training horses from a farm and bringing them to the track unlike wood buying we wood
Buying every day you come in and you work your horses you go back home and then race day come you come and work ride your horses you go back home but you had the opportunity to be with um with John Mark at his Farm getting on a
Bunch of horses every day seeing how things are done you know I mean our way and I mean the results showed you win two out of the three horses you rode for him on that day right yeah correct yeah so I want you to you know give me a
Little bit of feeling how you felt about you know I mean being at the farm getting on these horses and then having to hold the ship to the the track and run and and the success you had I want you to talk a little bit about that so
You know people can understand what we grew up doing and you got a chance to the field at oh man it’s such an amazing experience the whole thing uh you know we go out to a field uh and we just uh let the horses be uh horses uh they love
It out there and um taking um I went a couple times with John Mark uh to take them swimming just watching them you know go in the water and coming out uh just you can just see how happy they are and full of life and it’s a different experience
Like you know in every sense of the way uh yeah these horses are very happy out there they love what they doing yeah now I just want I just want to see how you felt about that because again that’s what we grew up doing and farm to the
Track you know and race there we come in and we do stuff like that and it shows that you can be successful doing it and I mean John Mark does a great job with the sources because when I see his horses on on the TV from from you know
Home you can see the beautiful of the the beauty of the horses and what he’s doing you know what I mean and I know he don’t leave no stone on turn when I see his horses because I’ve seen him in the tag shop and trying to get the best
Things for his horses and doing the job that he’s doing so the results show and I mean and you know to looks to YouTube for going down there and making you know I mean how many tracks have you ridden at before before you run ride on a track
Like that correct yeah know I mean you know the way that they train going up a hill going on from left to right the lead changes all is building muscles on these horses so you know uh there’s no doubt these horses are going to be ready
Uh come race it yeah no so it shows that it can be done it just have to be done the right way right correct correct and and of course uh you know Mark has a great team out there you know his uh his people are just amazing they love they
Love what they doing and that that puts a big part on horse racing you know you have to love what you’re doing and horses uh horses can feel it y That’s AB so now I’m going to jump a little bit around here a little bit I’m an agent
And I gotta talk about the agent so your agent is is Tyron Harden you know speak about the job he’s done to try and get you in the situ I know you you compliment um Ted and you compliment um John Mark and also and and the people
That he worked for and stuff but let’s not forget you know we that do the groundwork for you so you know speak a little bit about your the little short F correct man um me you know Tyrone is also like family to me um you
Know we talk often um he he he does a lot of work um studying horses he’s uh has a like a program in his computer where uh you know he studies horses so um yeah we’re we’re we’re uh slowly growing um we can always you know ask
For more um more opportunities uh we can see that you know U things are are looking to in our in our in our um in our behalf like uh I think this year coming up uh in Woodbine uh things are might be a little different for us where
We can get more opportunities from bigger bars like Josie Carol you know more rights for Mar draxter um mark um yeah it’s all about the you know the opportunity and U people believing in you and uh giving us a chance so uh we’re we’re a strong team we work

Friend and I walked up from the Hilton to the grand stand on Gold Cup Day the excitement was palpable it was such a fun day um cadiro Tilly said it was so awesome how Zed ran second last year in the spa Sprint and was disqualified but then amazingly came back this year 2024
And won the spa Sprint easily in fashionable style and both r came back in 105.2 last year and this year so there’s some interesting points there I’d forgotten that Zed was disqualified last year um from second place so that’s very nice for him yes but Ed Edwin when when
When the goal cut time come around and you and you see that crowd out there what do you talk about that crowd out there that I mean the infield and stuff like that you know talk about that a little bit seeing that for the first time and the people don’t forget people
Are standing on the track yeah it’s like no other if yeah we can experience this every day I mean yeah nobody want to get out of there you know the crowd the the the energy that they bring is is crazy it’s uh unreal um I wish every jockey every
Trainer uh would uh experience this for sure wow it’s amazing this show is this show is called horse racing Journey so um before we keep you on uh forever here we want to hear about your journey to getting to this point and now being a jockey at Woodbine the last couple of
Years and and getting ready to uh you know be one of the the top Riders here because it looks like that’s where you’re heading um tell us a little bit about your journey I know you were a a quarter horse jockey to start in 2011 but um where did horse racing come where
Did the desire to ride roures come from uh well my my uh my family is horse racing U my dad has been a groom and signing it up for uh many years so um you know back in the day when I was going to school uh he would take me in
The weekends with him to um just to you know see see see what he does and um he will take me in uh in Sania they have a clockers corner so here drop me off there and then uh he’ll uh go back and do his thing and I will watch the the
Jockey working horses uh you know got briers uh training and it was it was like a few months um past um I would I would take myself to the track I would ride my bike and and just go for the for the races and one day um I remember I was uh
Standing in the quarter pole and I saw the horses going by and I this is what happened to me so I remember watching this the horses coming um to turn and I I I can still remember uh how they like the the whole picture slowed down it was like in slow
Motion and um I remember Lono quenon is uh I remember how uh he he un cocked his his whip uh it was uh a beautiful picture for me and that day um I said yeah I want to be able to do that but um my family it’s it’s a little bit taller
Side so um I had that to worry about uh my dad didn’t really want me to be jockey cuz uh you know he’s seeing how the struggles for some jockeys are for weight and um he really didn’t push for me to be a joogy but uh I would um I would I
Did since that day I did everything to become a jockey I would sleep with the Bel uh wrapped around my my my feet every night because I didn’t want to grow oh my God yeah every night yeah I sleep with the BT like with my feet uh I would work
Out every day no matter what time I came back home I I went I put on the S suit and I went for a run worked out I started I started dieting just eating in like I I would watch like Pet’s U videos right where he would just eat a peanut
I’m like how is this possible there’s no way this guy is just eating a peanut there’s no way I triy it there was no way I could not just eat a peanut or some little thing I was um I figed that he could have not done that so but I was still
Dieting and uh taking care of my weight I was uh in like about eighth grade uh when all this started um then um um one of my friends um would pick me up after school and take me to a farm uh to my uncle’s Farm where he had horses there
It’s so he had a four and a half uh forong track uh so after school um um for a couple years I would go with them and uh we ride have me ride the horses and kind of train me there uh so this went on for
Like two years and uh after that I was uh at age to uh go to the track um and get a I think it was a a a groom license or hard Walker license one of those but um it was in l salidos so I I got involved in the court
Of horses um and that’s how I started uh riding cord of horses uh I started doing match traces uh um and then I at age uh when I was able to get my uh professional license um I started riding in little midles and then um so I rode I rode
Court horses for about six seven months uh and then um a fellow an agent uh Derek laon went and uh he went a couple times to uh talk to me to try to get me to uh go to Sanita Hollywood Park and I was very hesitant because uh at this at this
Point I had gone so accustomed to the the whole environment of corner horses um so I was I was happy where I was so it took me it took me a couple weeks to decide to make that trans uh transaction um another jockey that helped me out was Caesar the Alva um he
Was the one that pretty much um got in my head and said man you you only have this opportunity once uh and it’s uh just a year W you just try it out and see how it works and the quar horses are always going to be there so
And that’s when I meet the step to go and ride THS wow yeah that’s that’s wild yeah I mean you know and there is money in quarter horse racing there I mean there’s no there’s not really any money in quarter horse racing in Ontario at our one little track but uh there is
Quarter horse racing money so I guess I could see you know you get used to you know screaming out of the gate and licking and sticking and all that and then you know then you you have to come back and learn to ride Turf races and you know different kinds of different
Distances and all that well here you are now all these years later you’re almost at 500 career wins and SS only Ser beds only not I’m not counting qu horses but you’re like what six winds shy of of 500 or six or seven winds shy of 500 so that’ll come
Pretty soon yeah I’m looking forward for that well how how hard was it oh sorry Sean did you want to go first no no I I also noticed that he won it first to race in 2012 in California I mean did you write at santanita often or
So um when I made that transition of from quter horses to Der yeah uh I had like two months to um to change my home mentality of like my my clock um the style of r in uh before uh uh trainers wanted to ride me uh I started at
Hollywood Park when that was open right yeah so yeah it was very different I remember the first uh the first race I wrote I believe it was a TF race um a short race um it was so fast how horses was just traveling from left to because I’m used
To going straight right right and and we break out of the gates and I’m seeing like everybody moving and try to position themselves and this is my first phase so uh it was it it happened so fast um I remember uh right into the wire past the wire the announcer was
Telling me as one the race is over I I was lost I was lost I was I didn’t know where the wire was I saw everybody still moving so I was still writing that’s hilarious that’s funny that’s funny so now all those years then in California
Um how did you end up at Woodbine Racetrack well um of course um handle was uh the one that brought me here we were talking for yeah we were talking for a few years um behind the pandemic happened so I wasn’t able to um move earlier but we were the talks the talks
Were already uh in the air for a couple years U before but he was the you know he’s still the person um that uh is helping me with uh all the paperwork and um supporting me he’s U like a Manor to me uh it’s a great person and yeah
Everybody knows how um how supportive he is in my career now how did you meet handle because handle worked his way up you know handle’s working in customer service at wood buy he had some big jobs he’s now an owner he’s raced horses at Sanita did you meet him at San Anita no
I actually met him on through social media oh okay yeah so we started talking and um you know uh as time went by uh you know he shouted out the opportunity of uh me coming to uh Woodbine and um riding some of his horses before that uh
Before I came to Canada he had shipped horses to San Anita as well so uh when he did that and um you know I was uh just got me closer to his business and uh his operation so uh it it just made it uh very clear
To me that you know moving out here was uh the right thing to do yeah I know for sure well I know the day that you actually came to Woodbine the first day you came to Woodbine was what day and I don’t mean riding but the
First day that you came to Woodbine what day was it yeah it was a big race Queen straight I met you right we met in the parking lot that’s right yeah yeah that was pretty neat so you you came on the biggest day of the year and um it wasn’t
Long before you were riding and that was so you didn’t even start riding until like I think it was like later in August 2021 so you got a few months under your belt and then 2022 and then last year and your profile has just been going up
And up and up um do you find that um you’re getting more opportunities I know you want to have even more this year but um tell us about your last two years at Woodbine it’s been great I mean uh you know the writers here at Woodbine are we
Have a tough Colony here a lot of good writers um so um I’m very I’m looking forward for this year um just to keep working hard and um being out there in the mornings and um just showing showing my face and and doing anything that I need to do to get that
Opportunity now where are you right now are you are you still in Barbados no I’m home now I’m in Canada oh you’re in in can Oh Canada is your home yeah yeah Canada is home well I didn’t know if you like you went Mexico or I don’t know no
It’s a good point uh you know it felt uh felt great going to um barados and you know people um telling saying you know um woodbin jockey here and it felt great representing woodb so you’re are you already getting on horses then no just got back two days
Ago um oh okay yeah well the weather is great I mean the one thing it’s not Barbados weather mind you but we haven’t really had much of a winter here so it’s uh it’s pretty good it’s not there’s no snow I hope there is yeah I was very surprised when I you
Know when I got here and the weather I mean it’s not even cold uh no this last two days I’ve been uh trying to go ice skating and it’s uh hard uh finding a place to go ice skating ice skating wow a lot of places
Are close when did you learn how to ice skate uh well I I I live right next to the the square uh here in downtown so oh you’re in downtown Toronto yeah so okay Nathan philli Square yeah I I go down there uh quite often and
Wow you’re a real you’re a real tonian I still don’t even like driving downtown yeah no yeah definitely downtown it’s uh right here I’m I’m in the middle of everything tell you truth man he’s good because I used to be live downtown too and I never tried that he

Yeah yeah I want to mention as well uh you know the the the jockey room down there uh everybody is so um friendly and so welcoming um my respects to everybody that writes at um me Barbados that’s good man that’s nice that’s nice Tyler gasin says that the
They’ll get you playing in the men’s hockey league yeah hilarious okay um pammer I’d like to show a race now you know um it’s very interesting that we talked about ewan’s first visit to Woodbine was 2021 he walked in it was Queen’s Plate day um right now he is the regular Rider
Of probably the second early second choice for the Queen’s Plate the horse’s name is babo and I’m going to show Babbo’s win in the coronation Futurity last fall so hammer if you can uh cue that up and um this is a horse that Ean rode for Trainer Card and owner L
Tucci and if I could just find My Notes here you want a you want a series of races in a row right three Sprints in a row and then you won the coronation Futurity and I remember you saying after the race that you were a little nervous
About the horse stretching out to a mile and eight but as we can see here um this I think this race uh pretty much illustrates how you want to see a horse stretching out from Sprints to a out and how you want to see your Riders sitting
On them because I thought this was pretty much a work of art this ride um getting this horse to win so um if we can get Hammer to I’m still babbling because I’m waiting for the race to come up there we go okay let’s watch eswan in the coronation maturity
$250,000 wow he’s number eight another number eight yeah eight number away they racing the coronation for chy a great start and babo best in to stride deep on the track going forward is Pipers factor in the center and they emerge at the top two by a length in third placing early is naptown
With no more options slipping up on the inside and vitality on their outer a break of two and a half to hat maker Gizmo three wide early is Pontiac towards the back with King Rosso the inside and Thor’s cors the center and Zippy gizmos the trailer Babble shows
The way by a length to Piper factor and go across to the inside Bubba in front Pipers Factor second racing handy his Vitality just one off the inside a beautiful position no more options on the inside in fourth and a half to naptown two lengths away Pontiac around
Hat maker Gizmo a length and a half to Thor’s course King Russo on the inside and at the back on the rail is Zippy Gizmo to behind but racing clear bubo bubo shows the way in the coronation pity and the first quarter was through
In 24 and 3 in the half 48 and 3 leads by 2 and 1 half to pip Factor Vitality no more options the insides had the run of the race a length away naptown then hat maker Gizmo podak King Roso Thor’s Coors and on the outside now Zippy Gizmo
They bunch a little bit bubo’s lead a length and a half to two Pipers factor and bubo going along nicely in front Pipers Factor making inroads now length away third no more options has come clear of naptown who’s pushed along on the inside hat maker Gizmo then Vitality
Zippy Gizmo is letting loose running on then Pontiac and towards the back Thor causing King Roso babo hasn’t shown any signs of surrender in the coronation fory Bubba by a length and a half to Pipers factor and down the stretch bubble reminded to keep going here and
Is out by two and a half lengths Piper factor in second the only danger and maybe no danger bubo has obliterated them and the coronation for a gate to Y win by Bubble by three lengths to Pipers Factor no more options third a gap to naptown and then ziby Gizmo 152 .06 bubble wow oh bubble yeah Buble what about that what about that Edan tell me about that race tell me about that horse ah it’s a nice horse um but like uh like I said before um he is not an easy horse to ride um especially going that long
Uh that’s why I was a little worried of the distance um he is a pretty fast horse so um yeah I mean I can’t wait to see how he turns out next year uh more mature and how he develops wow and did you think that he
Had like he looked like he were sitting pretty nicely and um he didn’t look like he was running sort of like uncontrollable I mean you know I mean it’s a good starting point that you can win going to mile e because of course the plate is a mile and a quarter um I
Guess maybe with some you know um maturity that maybe he’ll slow down even more yeah I just got to remember the song I was singing to him oh boy slow down you were singing a song all right let’s hear it let’s hear it come on
No it’s just a it’s a babo and S1 floor combination yeah okay I can’t give the secret out oh I know I see lero in the background I can’t let him know what song that was Leroy Leroy you can turn your mic back on you know en join in the conversation good

Though I wonder the comp when the competition comes there’s some competition might be coming this year that might not like that though yeah that’s why um you know I am looking forward for how uh he’s going to develop uh this year and uh we’ll see what he’s got right uh this is horse
Racing and um the competition is always going to be there so uh I’m pretty sure Sid is going to do his part and getting this horse ready and uh yeah we’ll see what he’s got yeah no he’s a nice horse and he had to be castrated too right isn’t he he’s still a
Cold I think he’s cated is still still W okay no it’s still a cold um yeah but he’s a you know and he’s kind of outrunning his pedigree though his pedigree his mother was really kind of a seven8 horse um very classy May Stakes Winner and a lot of
Heart but uh he’s looking a lot different than you know his sire and and his Dam so you know like I said I think he’s right now he’s right up there with my boy Prince for the you know the early Queen’s Plate cont or King’s plate contenders I’m never going to get that
Right King’s plate cont Enders um but you know it’s early and I think the Phillies this year are the horses to watch out for oh okay we need an email we need Tyrone Harding’s email yeah I I working on it no I’m working on it okay
Okay good all right it’s good to see that you have a horse that you can look forward to knowing you know going into the plate with some confidence too right what I mean and this is what you’re working towards right because like you said earlier this year you’re looking to
You know I mean step your game up and you and your agent work you know I mean much stronger together looking to to be more dominant too like every our R out there because we got a strong Rider economy at at Woodbine right now and I
Mean you’re you’re a big part of it correct yeah know for sure uh you know it’s uh it’s time to uh you know put my feet in the in the ground and uh and go for it I’m ready uh I’m ready for what’s to come yeah sorry just mention with s with
Sitting your support which is a great Horseman there behind you too you know I mean you want to have some great Horsemen like that behind you I mean this guy’s been alone for a long time and he’s he knows where the winner circle is so and you know where it is
Too so that’s a good combo right there yeah I know for sure yeah yeah said and the Tui family have supported me you know um pretty strongly I’ve uh I’ve won a couple races for the tushi family and I just keep um do my part keep working and um you know
So I can be ready when the day comes and give them the best that I have I was G to ask you did you find it uh tricky at all you know of course Woodbine has only the underhand uh whipping yeah uh did you find that an
Adjustment when you started here uh well in uh Sanita also had the uh the underand oh okay yeah it’s it it’s difficult for the body um the way you know the the way that um our bodies are are built you need to uh build different kind of muscles for that underst stretch
Under hand whipping yeah yeah so yeah you have to have a little bit of stronger back and um you know we we get Source you know um it’s not not natural uh to to hit hit that way so of course we’re going to get a little sore here there but um yeah
Hopefully we can uh get get it get it to change um you know uh if a lot of tracks have already changed um back to the um overhand weapon so hopefully uh we can uh get together and maybe change it one day but for now uh it is that’s what we
Got and that’s what we’re going to be working on Well everybody’s doing the same thing I guess someone asked you what do you think about what did you think about the Barbados Riders Erol Grant would like to know like I said U they’re amazing guys um very

Would love it yeah I would definitely uh yeah make sure you come come by we race on Wednesdays and then once in a while on Sundays but you’ll be a little busy on Sundays so so what time does uh what time does it start on Wednesday uh we
Start at 1:30 on Wednesdays okay yeah so that’s uh we don’t race and we usually to start we usually only have about six or six or seven races so yeah we don’t want to we go fast yeah we we can set something up you know we can get a

About a little bit about the writers here I know you’re say some professional stuff like that but if there any that you can share with one or two of the younger guys down here you know what I mean from what you’re saying because I know you know you do talk highly about
Them but there some younger guys down there that trying to be where yourself is and if you had anything to share with them what would you share with them and from looking right on that kind of track and with those you know so tight and stuff like that if you
Had to share something with a youngster from your experience down here what would it be um I think um being more decisive uh uh knowing uh doing um like your homework knowing on what kind of horses are in the race and um being just decisive of where you need
To be and not overthinking things so a little more patience you and add into that then yeah patience and um just um being um knowing where you have to be in the race to to win the race but don’t get me wrong these guys are are you know they’re aggressive uh
They they’re smart uh but just you know for the younger Riders not even uh just in Barbados in overall for younger Riders um knowing um who you’re competing against um it plays a big role on um winning races yeah for sure now somebody says here that I guess they think that you
Should have had a a bucket of water thrown on you because you won your first race at Barbados so I I I definitely needed it for sure it was so hot that day after the first race oh my gosh yeah I don’t want to hear about how H it
Was I don’t know why uh nobody did it I would have appreciated it oh my God irin Irvin wanted to know and uh there you got your answer yeah for sure there’s so many oh Ned Hayes says congratulations on your success in Barbados as one H Ned works for Marty

Um people are amazing my respects to all the beans yeah um now Brian Bradley has asked you do you prefer uh topa or dirt racing what do you prefer the jockey what do you do you have any idea like what you think is better for a
Horse uh well uh for me if you ask that question uh it depends on the horse uh it matters a lot to do uh what the horse if you have the horse that you know gets around the too um it’s pretty natural and if you have a
Horse that gets a hold of the dirt better then I’ll prefer that horse that day yeah horses for hes right right that definitely makes sense yeah now did you get a chance to ride at for eie yeah you’ve ridden at for eie when you first came to Ontario and that’s that’s a much
Well that’s a dirt track and that’s sort of a different kind of of track different kind of horse is there as well okay so out outside of North America where else have you ridden um FL now you mean you’re written Barbados but outside of North America besides Barbados where
Else have you written well I I was just based like in the states so I was I WR in Emerald Downs uh Al so all was all North America then so the first out of North America was Barbados then basically and and that’s it correct yeah
Okay maybe I can make uh I mean I’m open to you know go go elsewhere uh especially when wbank closes yeah yeah so you didn’t raise were you born in Mexico correct yeah I was born there and but you didn’t so but you weren’t into horse racing like how long
Were you in Mexico for so I I left when I was about eight years old oh okay yeah and I I haven’t been back since then oh wow really yeah I haven’t been you don’t have you don’t have family there I have family um but when I was in California they go
Visit so there was no need for me to go down there then have you brought them up to Toronto yet I brought my sister uh yeah my sister and um my brother-in-law is uh the whole family they’ they’ve already been here for two Christmas this last two Christmas oh oh that’s nice yeah
They love it here oh good that’s that’s beautiful um I know you’ve already address this but Carrie sherland uh just asked about just a little comment on the atmosphere of uh the the Barbados the parades and stuff you know there was that huge long delay between uh the race
Before the Gold Cup a like one minute said 20 minutes to post and then you look up again it said 35 minutes supposed but did you get to see any of that uh yeah uh well you know uh it was expected that show was uh you know it’s it’s in the schedule
So um I think it’s a good show they put out uh I just I pecked through the window I was I didn’t go out U but U it looked it looked like yeah it looked like a it was it just a natural thing that you know they do it it’s like

One as Juan has left a lasting impression on the racing fans in Barbados all the comments coming back are that he is the best foreign jockey to ever adapt to the Garrison most are saying he’s riding like he went around the track a thousand times before

Money is going to come from but I know there’s a lot of businessmen down here there’s a lot of people down here we just went on a um uh uh what do you call it now a bus a bus crawl or something like that and we stopped we stopped in
[ __ ] stown in an area down there and there was a a little um bar or something and it was surrounded with a lot of people and every every person was there was Canadians everyone was a Canadian ser and yes and they say to us that they bought up land down there and building
And and and having homes down there wow so you know what I mean there are a lot of people retiring and coming to Barbados so you know to say ask where the money is coming from and stuff like that and for a Barbadian guy I’m driving
Around cuz I did a lot of driving when I was here there a lot of beautiful places down here man there a lot of nice cars down here so there’s money flowing around down here so it can come from somewhere and I mean our horse racing
Just needs that uplift and for that one day alone you know what I mean something can happen it’s not like we need asking them to sponsor 12 steak races it’s two steak races on one day but the problem is right is that the did sandan day and they they don’t allow anybody else
Really to um come in that’s that’s the thing so it’s not to say like somebody else could come in and put money into that you know I mean it’s you’re trying to tell you’re trying to tell me a businessman of Mr Smith can’t get together I mean these guys
Have gotten together and partnership on horses I’ve seen that happening yeah but I don’t know if they want because the brand is sandin is so big and so popular I I don’t think they really want or you mean need anybody else well I’m speaking for a horse
Racing in barbad that’s a horse racing that put me where I am today and I’m just trying to promote the game that I love so much and promote the racing that the racetrack that made me The Horseman help made me The Horseman I am today so
I’m just trying to support the you know the Garrison that’s what I’m I’m here trying to do I agree with you 100% And we all know from our overseas experiences that money talks know I mean and not only that not only that the turf tber one of our sponsors so I’m just

I’m not disputing that Sandy Lane is is Sandy Lane’s day but more can be done can it with the right support of course it can be so I got I I just thought um if if s lane has that day um what about making it two days and making the extra
Day uh where you um you guys can get more uh um people investing in um uh sponsors to support and making a two-day event yeah I don’t think I don’t think we have any horses for that though good I don’t think true yeah I don’t think we have horses to support two days
Of racing I mean Sean Sean is right you know the horse population is so small here it’s kind of hard to get uh like weekend races you know no and that’s been going on for years and years and years right so yeah yeah no we can’t we
Won’t be able to do that I mean just not enough horses yeah I would have Lov to write more for sure yeah yeah two days what what is it about the track that you like though is it because it’s such a tight exciting type track you know I mean it’s very
Like the surface is it’s it’s great the the gift that it has it’s it’s good the horses have no problem traveling in it and also you know the excitement of the crowd and everybody um involved and all the energy that they bring it’s a special event you guys put on

Horse you know in this like we talk about the state program you know I mean every J wants to ride in every state race that there has on the on on the card of the year so we always trying to you know put more and be better at

We can have in a year due to having to try and maintain it and preserve the surface we need to go to all weather track and utilize the exercise track and the turf uh into have having two different surfaces there um Andrew Williams said Sean there there
Can have maybe someone can come together with Sandy Lane and put the money into a purse and raise it up uh but then Sandy Lane would still be the sponsor well I mean if I’m putting up money for a race I want my name to be front and center
Too so of course but I tell you something though I tell you something I mean I think what cuz between January and March I think we should have an well say from December December January February March if if you could get some nice races each month because you going
To take advantage of when is the the tourist season when it’s cold when people are here you know what I mean to take advantage of of of of habit races um around that time but I don’t know you need sponsorship though to have these T of big races you
Know I know but with these s big races too we want the foreign horses down there to bring that more excitement to the game also and you can’t just bring foreign horses you know one week and next week because it it’s costly and we got to look like that I’m just saying
The Gold Cup day and what happens on Gold Cup day if we can make the few Tunes fine tuning things here and there and having a little more horses coming for like the Sprint the spa Sprint and put a little more excitement to the game that’s we only need that one day then
You know other Bridges will get across when the time com but we have to get this one day clean up and make the changes that we have to make and all these things because it’s very costly to ship horses to Barbados now you know what I mean just doesn’t happen just
Like that and it’s costly you know everybody’s not be going to get horses to do the things that you know like that you know what would be great though if you have a series of races where people ship the horses and just keep them for the winter down here and nor race every

That well you know it’s been trying to compete with Kentucky Downs which has you know all those big Turf races and the Canadian International has just been really struggling to get uh you know better than a six or field or you know it’s just it struggles so unfortunately they
Can’t seem to either find a place for it or they you know they haven’t moved it or you they shortened it a bit last year but I don’t know what’s going to happen to it I mean last year they had a big celebration you know for the Canadian national
Because it was a 50y year anniversary of Secretariat winning it but uh now they’re not even running it this year so lot a lot of unhappy people about that because it’s a very uh historic race of course of course that’s crazy man but if you’re getting five six horse fields and
One standout horse from Europe then you know it’s kind of like you know it’s you’re shooting yourself in the foot but I think they I think there has to be more effort made into finding a place for it uh you know if they move that early
