Get into today’s round can you just take me through watching last weekend or or if you did um not knowing whether you’re going to get into this event or not and the emotions uh yeah it was kind of nerve-wracking I uh my wife and daughter
Were with me and we we were at PJ National at the resort so we just kind of hung out we just I didn’t do anything or I practiced a little Saturday I didn’t do anything Sunday um I was supposed to play seal a practice round at seminal uh on Sunday but it got
Rained out with all the rain that came through and uh yeah I was trust me I was looking at the tracker pretty uh religiously there for a little bit then it went down at some point which said I was just in the whole time and I was
Like this can’t be right uh but uh yeah I’m very fortunate it worked out and then I’m here so when did it kind of finally walk in take a deep breath come uh probably when the tournament was over when Austin tapped in for his win uh no
It was yeah I was at seminal at the time so I wasn’t coming up here regardless but uh if I wasn’t in this week I wasn’t going to play Puerto Rico I was just going to go up to Pon OFA early and get ready for the players so uh no just
Happy to be here for sure what was the best part of your game today um maybe a little bit of everything I putted well uh which is nice um I hit some shots really close which is always nice uh it’s kind of hard to do around
Here but uh the greens were a little more receptive than I thought they’d be uh but um hopefully they don’t go and change that overnight but uh no it was it just it’s an overall solid day have you paid attention to the world rankings of the guys who’ve won this year and
Does that in any way influence you’re thinking about you know your your prospects of winning or or or basically any of your peers who are not in that top 100 um it’s a loaded question with all the world ranking talk now uh you know I I
Don’t really pay attention to him I pay attention to him to know what I can if I get to a certain number I know what I get in and whatnot but I I really don’t pay attention to what guys are when they win I mean obviously like it it takes
Something special to win out here especially a week like this with this field and whatnot even though it’s limited and it’s half the guys but uh it’s it’s a very strong field and every every field on the PJ tour is strong even Puerto Rico like you’re going to
Have to shoot really good scores to win that event and uh winning is tough in golf there’s only one winner and there’s a lot of people that don’t win so um and I’ve got I mean I’ve got three more rounds so I’m not really thinking about winning I’m just I just wonder if
There’s any inspiration to it as well a little bit but I’ve I’ve got a lot more to worry about that so yeah what does it mean to you to be in one of these Signature Events oh it’s pretty awesome I I mean I the schedule if you’re not in
Them the schedule kind of chooses itself for you like what tournaments to play in and what not and um obviously I didn’t think I could get in until after Mexico um and it would have been a lot less stressful had I made that putt on the
Last toll in Mexico for solo 3 instead of T3 but uh other than that I mean uh yeah I was I was planning to play the seminal proam and then go up to or the pro member excuse me and then uh go up to Pon aidra from there but uh
Luckily I got in and I’m here so I’m really just trying to take advantage of the week for sure actually I got another got um do do you have a you ever meet Mr Palmer or have a favorite Story related um I do have one so I won the Arnold
Palmer award in college um didn’t get to meet him for that but I was I mean I played in the Nai so I was one of five guys to win it uh my junior year in college but uh one story I have I think it was the 03 Senior PGA at
Firestone um I was volunteering for the week but I had the day off so I was out watching a practice round it was Arnold Jack and Jim Colbert I think and I was left of the green on number eight and Arnold pulled his second shot left left
Of the green left of the bunker and it hit some guy standing next to me and I’m I’m from here to that leaf from Arnold’s ball and he comes up and he’s like did it hit anyone and the guy’s like yeah it hit me and he’s like it’ll grow back
Though and Arnold got a good kick out of that so that was pretty funny and then he kind of looks at it and it’s a tough shot over a bunker and um he goes does anyone want to hit this shot and I I was
2003 I was 13 maybe 14 at a time and I stepped right up I was like I’ll hit it and I I had my hand on his his wedge and this huge hand out of nowhere just comes back and he grabs me like that he’s like don’t worry son I’ll take it
From here and I was like yeah okay go ahead but I was I was so like excited I was like this is going to be awesome all these people to hit it and I in the end didn’t get a chance to hit it but yeah
Just a cool just just a cool just a cool story for sure so when there was talk about how do how do people from quote unquote outside get into these Signature Events how much did you follow that and how much were you concerned among all the things that golfers are concerned
About uh that it would be tougher than perhaps not to be able to make yeah I mean obviously the way the tour has it set up you have to be playing very well which is what it’s it’s what the it’s what the product is it’s these events
You want the best players in the world playing at the time and whether you get in through sponsors exemption or swing five or next 10 it’s uh you’re obviously playing pretty well cuz the the sponsors exemptions have to go to PJ tour members which which is nice and um hopefully
They’re playing well at the time and they can take advantage of it and especially with the the next 10 and swing five so do you think that this is a a benefit from the like changing ecosystem of golf since 2022 do you think um do you think it makes it more
Interesting more fun I’ll definitely say it makes it more interesting um I will say for the majority of the tour I don’t I don’t think it’s more fun if I’m being honest just with the point structure and everything from these events um I I do know a lot of guys are unhappy
With that I I I will admit I am um there’s a lot of points available this week and um just like like compared to last week in Mexico it’s just um like you’re still playing for a lot and you’re playing against double the field really so that’s all I’ll really say
What do you what would you like the field size for these events to be there’s no telling I I would be fine with 120 like they were like the aals were but um I I understand the want and need for it uh to get all the top guys together but I’m
I’m I feel like I’m slowly going through a rabbit hole right now and I could I I could talk about this for a while but U because it’s an ongoing subject but uh you know it is what it is and I’m here and I’m just trying to take advantage of it
So F favorite putt you made today favorite putt I made um number uh what is it one is it number five uh the pin’s front left it’s kind of in a weird little grain change area and I it’s kind of a little up and over I had
About 16 ft or so and I usually struggle with those but I I it’s something I’ve been working really hard on and it went dead center perfect speed so I was pretty proud of that one right thank you sir thank you
