A golf warm up doesn’t necessarily need to be super involved or time-consuming. In fact, by showing up about 20 minutes before teeing off, you can get a full warm up in that covers all your bases — and GOLF Top 100 Teacher Joe Plecker shows how.
With Shaving Strokes we’re sharing improvements, learnings and takeaways from amateur golfers just like you — including some of the speed bumps and challenges they faced along the way.

I’m here with golf top 100 teacher Joe plecker lots of amateurs struggle with showing up to the course running late and they don’t go through the routine yeah and ideally you’d like to have at least 20 minutes to do this the first thing I really want you to do and you’ve
Got the driver in your hand yep the driver Nick it’s actually your lightest Golf Club but when you swing it fast it’s your heaviest yep and it’s great for getting you activated in full swing movements we’re not hitting a ball we’re not going to hit anything you take your
Grip and start moving the big muscles in your golf swing start getting that motion that you feel to activate in your swing and once you’ve got in a good stretch from that I might let you hit a ball but no outcome we’re not judging the shot you’re just getting some
Contact big swings trying to get your body moving your balance your sequencing hit it out there for me you could take that to the whole Golf Course right there surprising right you know you’d say I haven’t warmed up or gone through a tradition maybe wedges up
To driver but we just got a great first swing in with that you might do that a couple times now what club do you hit 150 yards uh usually about an eight iron perfect so I’d like you to put it on a te for me okay A lot of times players
Will get to the range they’ll hit off of a maybe a mat or they’re on the grass and they give themselves a lie and they hit a poor shot and now they’re making adjustments again we’re not here to change your golf swing we’re here to
Warm up for the round yep so put it on a te like you would for a par three shot okay now we’re going to get used to the yardage we’re going to find a distance that you want to hit and aim to a Target now that worries stopped right
And again I like to tell players don’t judge don’t judge too much right we’re just making some contact here and I’m going full 100% right I’m not I’m not loosing you know let me let me let you tell me that you hit and let’s talk about how hard you felt like you swung
I got that about 95% that was beautiful I took it off cuz I knew I topped that first one we’re finding our range for your swing yep and I think what you’d find as your contact starts to improve you’re going to know where that range of your golf swing is
Especially taken it to the golf course yeah now 150 is a really pivotal number when you’re here on the Range without any Judgment of the contact here is just to find the speed of your golf swing yeah and then we’ll observe some ball flight you know just know that there’s
Not much wind here today affecting your flight but that was very straight yeah if you warmed up and all of your iron shots are drawing well guess what we’re playing today the draw we’re going with the draw okay now a great saying that uh some of the really elite players I work
With like to say is their shots only as good as their lie M so as you practice here we’re really trying to give you optimal lies cuz we just frankly don’t know what we’re going to get yeah and when you graduate after maybe three or
Four of those shots off of a tee we’ll hit one off the ground let’s hit that your stock your 150 swing right at that 90% that you had and there’s our straight ball yeah you got a birdie putt the other club that I want you to do is go back to that
100 yard shot finding a target a zone that you want to land the ball in this is all about the carry distance of 100 yards so again miss hit that one and one of the things I want to tell you to do is is don’t judge there have been lots
Of players that I’ve coached who have horrible warm-ups in their career rounds yeah cuz remember we’re about to step into a round of golf you know what I call round of golf what’s that chaos I’ve seen bad shots bounce off a cart path back onto the green and great shots
Hit a sprinkler head and go out of bounds yeah so we’re not judging every single shot you’re hitting I can’t stress enough you’re trying to get your Rhythm some Center contact a feel for your yardages and how your ball’s flying great so the last step you take after
Warming up from your your driver swing your initial swing down to your 150 and 100 we’re back here on the driver and we’re rehearsing our routine for the first te okay Nick what’s the average width Fairway that you play how wide are Fairways probably about 40 yards 40
Yards you got it so this is a shot where I see players trying to hit a pole or a flag pick out a wide space here too and I love all those canopies that we see on the back range there that’s our Fairway yeah so as you’re just looking at that
Open space we’re getting Center face contact match the pace of your swing and just like the routine on the first te oo it’s going to be a good day you take that image of that shot with you all the Motions you did and you put that
To use on the first tea get up there about 5 minutes before your tea time breathe and get ready for a good round awesome just like that
