Disappearing acts amid a wild Sunset Beach lineup sparked opening day featuring the world’s best taking on Opening Round and Elimination Round battles. Caio Ibelli, John John Florence, Eli Hanneman, and Jordy Smith found major time behind the curtain for stunning starts. Competitors had to showcase their ability to adapt and prove their grit in an ever-shifting Sunset Point to avoid elimination with World No. 1 Barron Mamiya and three-time World Champ Gabriel Medina headlining the first scares of Sunset Beach and find their way into the Round of 32 to kickstart their 2024 seasons.

Since it hosted the first Championship Tour event ever in 1976, Sunset Beach has long stood as an old-school test of power surfing. And while timeless rail-to-rail surfing still dominates, a new school of surfers is beginning to redefine the wave with a more modern approach.
