The season is fast approaching and I want to make sure you’re doing these things right because this is what the pros are working on at the minute to make sure that they’re peeking at the right time every time before we get stuck into this lesson though guys do

Make sure you are a subscriber to the Channel I want to improve your games and I want you to do it by joining me with your free lessons every week here on the channel hit the button let’s get stuck into this lesson so the winter is about

To end here hopefully because it’s been horrible but what we want to try and make sure is is that as spring comes and as the golfing season starts we are ready to hit the ground running because a lot of my students over previous years have always come to me round about May

June time and said I think I’ve sort of settled back into it now and that’s going to be too late realistically we want to make sure if we’re starting round about March April time Now’s the Time just to go through three simple things to make sure we’ve got them right

So when we do get out on the golf course we hit the ground running and we’re playing our best golf so let’s just go through them real simple guides whether you are a beginner golfer whether you’re an elite golfer like I said the pros are just checking these things constantly to

Make sure that they’re peaking so it’s on you to do it and see if that you can get better so depending on how your Winter’s gone you might have had the clubs away in the locker all winter through and when we even come to actually getting them out and take our

Grip that is where we could see that the first thing isn’t quite right because as soon as we place our hands on the golf club that’s actually going to influence where our face is pointing and if we’re just slightly off because we’ve not held the club in a few months or we’ve held

It very little throughout the winter we make one little change and that’s sticks and all that feels about right but all of a sudden it changes your Club face that’s actually going to change the shots that you’re hitting and the outcome that you will see out on the

Golf course so real simple thing that we can do on all the golf clubs that we buy now days generally we see a logo something like the Golf Pride one pointing down and hopefully that is aligned square with your target if you don’t have one all we want to try and do

Is see that we would get the club face square like so and then from there two little things that I want you to check and it’s real simple to do this when we put our front hand on or our lead hand as the right-handed gol for that one

Being the left the checkpoint that I want you to look out for is the little crease or the little Gap that appears between your four finger and your thumb because what I want to see is when I put it on now what I don’t want to do is

Make sure it’s exaggerated one way or the other if it was too weak that would mean it’s pointing down towards my target somewhere here so the crease now is looking out this way and what I’ll do is highlight this for you with a really bright orange te so you can actually see

Where this points so I just simply slot this in and if you’re doing this at the range this is even a good way even at home once you pop it on here what we don’t want to see is that it’s pointing too much towards the Target now or vice

Versa I don’t want to have it pointing too far away from the Target that would be too strong there what I want to try and see if we thought of the front of the grip here or the top of the grip I would want it just turned over so

Slightly away from the target there so we see now it just goes in I get it in my fingers and I just get it turned over ever so slightly and that would be where I want that front hand secondly when I put my back hand the right hand for the

Right-handed golfer I’m going to look out for the same thing the little crease that’s in between the thumb and my foref finger now I know I’ve got that front hand on good again I don’t want to see too much exaggeration what I want to see

Is that when I’ve got both creases on my grip here they actually want to be pointing up towards my right armpit is a right-handed golfer so they’re not too much to the left they’re not too exaggerated away from the right all I’ve done is just make sure that I’ve got

Them pointing somewhere up like this so as it looks and as you see that t there it’s just pointing off ever so slightly from there and what that does now is means that my face is square and I can actually get the correct rotation and I can actually control the club face

Throughout the sing to try and give me a nice Square Club face through impact so real simple it’ll literally take you 30 seconds just to check that see where these two creases are are they one way or the other let’s try and get them both pointed at that right armpit there and

From there then we should be able to hit some nice little square shots just as a loosener like so with our seven IRS to feel we’ve got it second thing is how we’re actually going to stand to the golf ball because as I stand to this golf ball again I may have

Been the person who’s left my clubs in my locker the whole year the whole winter through or or you may have had a little bit of an injury whatever it may be and we just need to make sure that we’re doing everything correctly as we go through this and there’s a couple of

Key things that I would always try and influence my students to do now obviously depending on your mobility and how your body is you might have restrictions but what we want to try and see is that we give ourselves the most athletic looking stance we can that

We’re able to afford ourselves what we don’t want to do is stand there looking like you can’t be bothered looking like you’re smaller than you are and looking like you’re not even going to be able to move the golf club around your body in any fit State we want to look big we

Want to look tall imagine you’ve just been told you’re the best looking person in the world you filled yourself with confidence all of a sudden you feel bigger your chest opens up you feel more athletic you feel great you don’t feel small like so so real simple first thing

As we actually get any cup out of our bag and as we’ve now taken our grip on the club I want us to try and feel that we’ve pulled our shoulders back from there then what I want to try and see is that as I stand to it the first thing

That always goes wrong for me is that people sag down into the golf ball so we see a lot of Bend in the knees we don’t really see any Bend in the hips and we see a lot of curvature in the top of the

Spine what I want to try and do is see minimal Bend in my knees so I would feel that my legs are nice and straight I would now feel that I’m going to bend from my hips a little bit more so I would even feel that as I do this my bum

Goes back and my knees almost feel that I lock up I almost feel like I’m still pulling those shoulders back and my chest is getting wider to see that my spine now stays as straight as possible if you have a tiny rounding we see people like Tommy Fleetwood who looks

Like he’s got a bit of rounding in there that’s okay like I say everyone’s got different Mobility through the body but as long as we can see that we feel nice and Tall we Bend from the hips pushing the butt back we feel that the knees

Have locked up and then we just let them soften and we now feel that we’ve got the chest nice and wide as I address the golf ball I feel 10 times bigger as I did to my slouch stance so real simple you’ve got your good grip just go

Through that and you’ll feel even as you do this a lot taller you’ll feel like you’re up away from the golf ball and what that’s going to allow me to do now is give myself loads of room to swing this golf club around my body and generate more speed just by actually

Giving me the ability to make some good turns as I go through the golf ball so again once you’re just doing this down at the range small little s ions we get a good grip we feel more athletic just tip them off there just little chips and just get used to being

Back with your golf clubs and actually getting used to hitting these shots as we go through the third and final thing that we want to get right is our ball position this one has a massive effect on what’s actually going to happen when you deliver that Golf Club to the golf

Ball if we’ve not got this right we’re going to have to see that we’re making manipulations we’ll start moving differently and it’s going to cause a lot of issues I’ve got my driver out here and what I would say is that we’ll look at maybe a mid iron a long iron and

Maybe the driver here so what we would see is that I see a lot of students fall into just playing everything from the same spot they sort of a shuffle and think oh yeah that’s about right and we end up seeing that this golf ball gets too far back the big problem is

Depending on where you put the golf ball now down in the ark as I stand to this golf ball here if I move it further back in my Ark I’m going to have less Loft I’m going to be trapping it I’m not going to get my desired Loft uh Loft

Onto the club and the shot that I want again if I move it too far forwards I’m also going to be adding more Loft and also depending on where the Arc is I’ll be meeting it at an earlier or later point which will also will change the starting Direction and the curvature of

The golf ball so real simple let’s just make sure we’re getting this ball in the right spot now if we’re going to be using our driver what we want to see is that golf ball is going to be aligned with the front foot we want to maybe

Just flare the feet out and have it just touching the heel position there everyone might be ever so slightly different but what we don’t want to do is go really exaggerated in one way what I wouldn’t want to see is that I’m stood to a driver and it’s pegged up and the

Ball position is in the middle of my stance here it’s going to affect that attack angle it’s going to affect where I’m meeting it in the ark and ultimately it’s going to affect the shot that I see being produced now if I had a midon what

I would want to see is that that ball wants to be pretty close to the center I want it just in front of the center to allow me to get that ball and turf contact once I actually shift the we through the the golf swing but what I

Wouldn’t want to see is that it’s somewhere up towards the front of my stance because I’m not going to be able to get the right Loft on the golf club and I’m not going to be able to get that ball and Turf Club and I’m not going to

Be able to produce the distance I would vice versa if I had something out like a wedge where I know a lot of people when they’re struggling push that ball position really far back that again is going to alter some of those factors I want to see that my ball position with

Something like my eye and my wedge is placed a little bit more towards the center of my stance so when we’re out there just run through that just as you stand to it think to yourself right okay what club is it where do I want to see

This ball actually being hit from in the Arc of my golf swing if we’ve got less Loft A good rule of thumb is going to be more forward up The Stance with the driver being the furthest one at our front foot if I had less Loft more Loft

Now sorry I want to be working back towards the center of my stance with let’s say a pitching wedge a gap wedge a lob wedge Sand Wedge in the middle of my stance here I wouldn’t be playing my driver as I go through and as you go

Through there if you think from the middle of your body up to your front foot depending on your stance you probably got about 4 to 6 in somewhere around there that you could place that golf ball in your stance as long as you stand to it and you understand where it

Should be going what we’re going to be able to do now is a grip that club correctly B Be stood to it in an appropriate athletic manner then have it in the right spot in our stance and if I can do this and I can make a half decent

Golf swing just by getting these Basics right all of a sudden I’m going to be able to actually get better gol shots just like that one all through delivering Better Basics so three things that I really want you to make sure you’ve checked before you get out onto the golf course this season

Don’t just go out there not knowing because that’s when everything starts to fall down from there guys I hope you’ve enjoyed that lesson make sure you hit the Subscribe button and we’ll see you in another lesson very soon

  1. This is a good refresher to start the season get back to the basics and re adjust after a break nice vid and good timing it's starting to warm up a little here gonna be playing again soon

  2. Great advice Matt. Already working on squaring the club face at address & impact by your drill and also feeling more athletic at address. Ball striking is also coming along nicely ⛳️👍🏻😁

  3. The part about standing tall keeping the chest out…. Really helpful. Can't remember ever seeing anyone put it that way. Thank you much!

  4. Hi Matt, watch this video, tip number 2 was me, tried it out totally different game when your doing it right, thanks keep up the good work😂
