Welcome to the upshot ulti World disc golfs podcast about the latest in the disc golf world I’m the editor Charlie Eisen Hood joining me is Josh Mansfield on this Thursday February 29th leap year leap year Josh I I didn’t really realize it until like yesterday when I saw a

Post about it on social media and then I was thinking about like should there be some sort of disc golf leap or thing like should there be should we have some sort of Celebration should there be some sort of contest we we just claim it for ours

Like this this holiday this is now a dis golf holiday this is the yeah every four years is national disc golf day on February 29th that’s funny why it’s in the winter don’t you know don’t think too much don’t ask don’t ask hard question that’s

Right you know I got to be honest I was keenly aware that it was a leap year this year because I I was like oh my gosh is it perfect could I have the leap year baby where it falls on the 29th and then we joke that you know oh yeah

You’re only four years old yeah yeah how do how do leape babies deal with that do they they celebrate on February 28th or March 1st I have a great aunt my grandma’s sister was born on February 29th and she switches yeah no serious so she switches every year so one year

She’ll celebrate on the 28th and then the next year she’ll celebrate on March 1 uh so every four years though you have to have like a big party she does big if you if you were more on you get to be like to your you send out an email all your

Friends it’s it’s leap year birthday this year you know it’s $100 a person and we’re doing it at this crazy bar who says no who the leap your party yeah yep that was the dream but alas we do not have a kid yet I mean still young it’s

It is 12:00 noon on leap on 29th of J of February there’s still a chance I got 12 hours what’s the due date due date is March 10 okay that’s definitely possible it’s possible a little early like it’s we’re 38 and a half weeks so have eat

Some spicy food today never right we’ll go get Indian for dinner uh we are going to do something new today we got a new segment brand new this is from the mind of Josh Mansfield and I like it uh we we have a 30 second

Rule later in the show get a bunch of topics in some interesting stuff this week but uh we’re going to begin with a line in the sand and basically we’re going to take some topics and we’re going to say by what date or by what criteria does this thing have to happen

Or is it there’s no longer excuses and so you you’ll get the idea as we get started here Josh it’s it’s your segment here so do you want to go first or second I I’ll go first and I I’ll pick one and this this will explain a little bit

Where it comes from as well and sets the stage we were talking about pdj live in the rapid reacts and the fact that there are no cumulative stats for PDGA live uh and you know we we were like okay you know what it’s incredibly frustrating but it’s understandable they’re

Developing the app at what point is it unacceptable that PDGA live does not have full functionality including access to live stats and access to historical tournaments right if chess do is chess.com going to disappear when can I go back in an archive and pull chess.com statistics and be able to see cumulative

Stats so Charlie by what point are we done being PGA live apologists so they’ve been making steady progress they have I think things were a little better than expected to begin the year but there are still major flaws compared to what we’ve had with udisk now I’m not even necessarily going to

Kill them for the server outage last weekend although obviously if that continues to happen we will have a problem sure um I I think we I I would say by the end of the Texas Swing so what is that like a month yeah we need to have searchable sortable table data for the

Season like I it just it’s season it I if we can’t follow the statistics of the season and be able to look even at an individual tournament and see everything like in a comfortable easy to access place even if it’s not beautiful we have to have that within the next month okay

I’m going to draw a mini line for you I think that’s completely reasonable but if I can’t see cumulative stats for Waco I’m done I’m I’m done with you’re going to come on here you’re going to start killing them and I’m going to start killing them I understand you need time

To develop I understand that that but if if you can’t by two tournaments in give us access to seeing individual tournaments so that like to the same level of quality and not not like the fancy like you said how it looks doesn’t matter but if I can’t have a usable it

Does matter it matters sure but like we can accept yes bad UI for now but if if you if you either got told that it would happen by now and it didn’t unexcusable uh or if you just said oh we’re going to run this even though we may not have

Cumulative stats by Waco uh no NOP not for me like that defeats the purpose of having these statistics I’m not I’m not going over there with a calculator by hand to pull those out just not happening all right Charlie which one do you got next all right well I’ll stay on

A similar theme for the moment I just found out the discol pro tour standings page now exists so so I clicked on the link at the top of the site I went to dp.com to see if it was still linking to udisk no it has a new page on the dgpt website

That has the current standings after one tournament obviously pretty straightforward so far um I uh I took a screenshot of the page here you can see it if you’re on the YouTube now the stand there are other standings links that are still broken on the discall

Prots yes I I go through the menu because I I split screen dgpt so I don’t have that little top bar so I go through the menu you and it still pulls me to you dis so but anyway it exists um but there’s like still a bunch of

Problems like for one thing there’s some dead links if you click on a player’s name in the thing it takes you to a broken page where you have to have a password uh nothing is fluid yet and you know again like I I give a little bit of

Leeway here at the beginning of the season but at Josh at what point do we need to have a fully functional standings page that by the way I think it’s important to note has the same level of clarity that udis had with dropped tournaments uh and things of

That nature now that won’t matter for a few weeks obviously but sure uh when do we need this to be like actually up and running well see Charlie what you don’t realize is it is up and running it’s actually just dgn Ultra it’s 50 bucks a

Month and they give you a password to log in so you can actually see individual standings pages uh I I say that they have until the open at Austin that’s three tournaments in at that point two tournaments I can keep track of right I can go look at

Chess.com invitation line look at wakeo and for me that’s easy enough to to look at and visualize where people are at even if it’s not 100% clean 100% functional at three tournaments that’s too much for me to keep track of by the end of open at Austin I want all the

Links to be working I want to be able to click on a player and see the results for their three tournaments um that’s that for me is where I need to to see it by I’m I’m I’m I’m saying wakeo I I just oh this we they got we gotta have it we

Gotta have it happening but but but if I come on to the website on on Monday after Waco I want to be able to look at the standings page and have everything be working that is not unreasonable and like the link should work on the website like someone should

Literally just sit someone in the Pro Tour needs to sit and website and click around and be like oh this link is broken this thing isn’t working right and then they need to work on fixing the links there’s there’s a good chance just redirects right now that there’s a good

Chance they’re going to hear this podcast and be like oh crap we forgot about that link and they’re going to go fix it right like it feels more like an oversight I mean putting a hyperlink in is not hard not hard not hard that’s what I’m saying hard so all right Josh

What’s next yeah all right um in in spirit of we talked a little bit about Kristen coming back on uh on tues Tuesday and and she’s going to be coming back at Waco so that’s going to be up and coming we talk a lot if you haven’t go

Check out the sub bonus um sub bonus came out today we did some more overreactions and one of them included Kristen um you can become a subscriber go listen to that it’s great time uh but the big thing about Kristen she’s coming back beginning of season how long does Kristen go without

Winning before we start raving W waving red flags and saying maybe this is the same Christ as seasons of old no no basis for this actually happening but if it starts happening right let’s let’s let’s put the the the water on the fire right now and say when

This we can actually start worrying when when would you start worrying about Kristen yep um I think I worry if she hasn’t won by the first major Champions Cup um US Women’s is during the Texas swing thank you you’re welcome I will give her a little more

Time than that I agree but actually it actually changes my thinking slightly to remember that that tournament is very early this year okay because I think it means that you need to be up to speed a little quicker okay and so maybe I do say is that how many tournaments before

Is it wakeo and then atin Austin us women yes I think if she goes over for three at those tournaments I would start to worry so I stand by what I said first major okay all right all right I’m gonna I’m gonna go a little different I I

Think if Kristen is you know not if Kristen takes second three times in a row I’m not going to worry about Kristen especially if a different person beats her every time if Kristen does not win before Champions Cup which is in April um which is second major for her that’s

That’s when I don’t care if she takes second every tournament in Champions Cup that’s still when you need to worry about Kristen so I that’s that’s kind of why I picked the longer date is when I think about like does her quality of play matter in how I qualify whether or not

I’m concerned and to me it does early enough on the the US Women’s but by Champions Cup there’s no excuse that Kristen’s not winning I mean what I would say is that the level of expectations for Kristen are so high that bar is so high that even like three

Straight tournaments of like slight underperformance or like you know fifth place fourth place second place right we are going to be talking about is Kristen has she taken a step back tell me I’m wrong tell me I’m wrong that that’s not going to happen uh for some people it’s

Going to happen after one tournament it is going to happen away pour the water I will not go that I’m not going that crazy uh okay all right okay how about um speaking of players of the Year okay how long can Calvin heimberg go without winning an Elite Series or

Major before you don’t make excuses for it anymore you know he not it’s not like he didn’t get a free pass from us last year Josh but he was still I convinced you that Calvin was player of the year we agreed that he was player of the year

He won Player of the Year there were a lot of reasons to say that you know despite the fact that he didn’t win for a long period in the season he was still clearly the best player week in and week out but like at some point if you can’t

Close the deal and get wins it becomes something that is no longer something that you can just say well he’s still the most consistent right being the most consistent at some point starts to feel a little h Hollow in the way that Ricky’s claims about being you know the most consistent

Player feel hollow when he downplays the importance of Majors right right so when do when are you already there or do you does you give it do you give him more time obviously didn’t have a great start to the season no he didn’t and and I

Don’t expect him to be at that point here the here’s the problem he’s got the lingering injury not 100% sure he’s going to be so I give him more time than I would otherwise because of the injury my answer Beaver State fling through the West Coast Swing this

This this is the case for a couple reasons number one it gives him a couple months to get healthy right I don’t I don’t want to just write Calvin off if he isn’t playing at 100% because of an injury uh I don’t think that’s fair so I

I want to give him the time that’s appropriate I also want to give him the variety of courses right he gets to see everything by the time he gets to uh the West Coast Swing because Champions Cup heavily wooded you’ve got case I I mean chess.com was not just a wideopen shot

Uh you get the the Great Courses over out west at Beaver State fling and at Portland you have DDO but then you have the West Coast where excuse me the Midwest where he’s been pretty good like Jonesboro give him the whole range give him all the opportunities give him the

Time to heal if he goes to Europe without a win uh man Calvin’s in rough shape and I think we start raving some real big red flags I think I’m going to say it’s calendar year and if he doesn’t win by Jonesboro and he’s gone a whole year

Without winning a tournament that to me is like okay that’s that’s wild I forget that’s been that long that’s crazy that would be wild like the best the most consistent player who won player of the year goes a full calendar year without winning a tournament it’s obviously very

Possible I get your point about the limitation with the forehand right now and being a little hurt definitely I mean I I I think it’s it’s it’s valid to to give him some leash for that but I just think there’s going to be something symbolic about it being a whole year

Yeah he’s got four chances yeah you got some time here right got some time here yeah all right I like it I love the narrative around that too like it’s it’s clean well you mentioned Ricky so uh let’s let’s keep it there with Ricky how long does Ricky get to win another major

Before he is I mean so obviously that that part of his career is over that he is just another guy who might win the Elite Series but we kind of write it off and and Rick’s not winning anymore I think he’s got to win one this year he’s in danger of being

Calvin this season of playing really well but if he’s failing to come down and take the I mean to me like what is Rick’s Legacy G to be if he never wins another major that’s what I think about right I think about it 10 years from now how do people

Talk about Ricky does he end up feeling like an also ran even compared to somebody like Calvin heberg I mean obviously he’s got the world titles and you can’t take those away from him no you can’t he’s he he he is the defining player behind MC Beth

But I just wonder how it will be talked about in 10 years will we just talk about it MC Beth and then like the mini Calvin era and then the Young Guns era you know like does Ricky get kind of left behind in these conversations I mean we’re coming up on

A decade since he won the worlds it’s not quite there yet but like oh yeah we’re this is seven years it’s been a while it has been a while and a while at some point I think in the future majors are going to have even more weight than they do

Now like right now you hear people talking about kind kind of like naysaying them sometimes and that I think that’s going to go away as the sport continues to grow the same way that the majors are by far the most important tournaments in golf and Tennis so I mean ultimately he still has

Multiple World titles he does there are not many players who can say that and so maybe that always leads him to be like he was a great player that happened to get just but I I just I just wonder like you know if he wins another one I think it really

Cements him as a tremendous player that you know wasn’t as didn’t win as much as MC Beth but provided a a worthy foil but I don’t know if that narrative will be the same if he doesn’t win one and I I I just don’t know how much longer he has

To win one so I say this season I I completely agree with the narrative point and I said I think it was like a year and a half ago I said that if Ricky doesn’t win another major that this this book is not written as the Ricky MCB Beth era right like that

That era was not the Ricky MCB Beth era it is the MC Beth era that spans from the end of Kimo till you know Paul’s most recent World Championship which was last year uh well two years ago and um at that point Ricky if Ricky doesn’t win

Again he is a chapter in Paul MC Beth’s book not like the leading player of a era of the MC Beth Waki era because I completely agree I mean majors are going to be what Define players and so because of that go ahead I just I do worry that

I’m overstating this case a little bit like the the the the negativity narrative ultimately Ricky still has six major wins which is fourth all time in disc golf behind only clo McBeth and Dave felberg and I I hear you um but there are young players like Isaac’s

Already got two like there there are going to be players that pass him in those number of majors and so to me here’s here’s what I’ll do though I’m gonna give Ricky a little bit more time I think Rick’s got three years he gets the decade if he doesn’t win again

Though in that 10e stretch and he goes 10 years without a major it it becomes the MC Beth era and Ricky just gets a part of it okay okay um how about this uh Paige Pierce coming back off the injury I think expectations were fairly muted for what she was

Expected to do she put her on the podium who who would put her on the Pod for P for picks right now I don’t think you can not on well on certain courses maybe oh God yes who would do such a thing it would do something like that what when do you

Need to see I’m not even saying when Paige needs to win okay I’m saying when do you need to see Paige be on a lead card for the final round have a chance before you’re really concerned about like the future of her career um all right I I I think actually

To me this this one I think is an easy answer uh I say OTB open she has consistently played amazing at OTB open uh and kind of like Calvin I want to give her enough time to acclimate and the full Gambit of course but OTB open is where she blew everybody

Out of the water last season so if she plays poorly at OTB open that’s when I think you start having bigger questions about Paige and where she’s at in her career but I give her in then I think you’re spot on I think you’re spot on I think that’s enough time to come

Back assuming she doesn’t get hurt again or anything like that but we’ve got a variety of courses courses that she’s won at tournaments that she won last year and if she doesn’t look right and like she’s able to start getting her distance back up to past form like Paige

Without distance is not a competitive like an elite competitive disc golfer right she has got to get back to being one of the longest throwers and she’s not there yet which is understandable but I think if it’s if she’s not there in in you know three months then you

Start to be like is is it gone same with circle 2 putting I mean Paige how many iconic pictures do we have a PA’s jump putt that she uses that’s so aggressive and has earned her so many strokes if she can’t jump putt anymore that changes a fundamental part

Of her identity as like a player in terms of how her game is played uh big big question marks for me after OTB open if that’s not back all right uh let me let me give you another injury player Eagle plan on coming back for Champions

Cup how long does Eagle get before he needs to be on a Podium after his surgery return before we wonder if everything’s right with his shoulder right cuz first we’re going to say oh it’s rust it’s it’s taking time he’s got to get confident oh yeah right of course

Got to give him that credit but at what point does the rust wear off and we start wondering if it’s still broken underneath and and he’s just not the player he used to be honestly I think I’d give him the whole season I it it’s hard to know what an

Injury recovery time looks like MH and I think it it matters a little bit on the context right if he’s finishing 40th week in and week out for like three four months straight then I’m going to be concerned but I think if he is you know playing decent has a top 10 here

And there but like and it’s talking about oh you know like I’m getting my strength back I’m starting to feel some rhythm again you know I I would give him the season like okay I wish that he done this surgery a year and a half ago and not

Kind of like drag this whole process out as long as it has but I also got to give him credit you know he won an incredible European open while he was hurt he had a f fabulous 2023 second half of the season last year looked like one of the

Best players on the planet as he has and that’s all playing not at 100% so I I definitely will give him some time I think the nature like think about the difference between that and pages right Paige is a an injury that is very easy to come back from not saying that it’s

Like super quick or anything but like I think in theory you should be able to be back and not really have effect on your ability to throw but like Eagle surgery like that’s a whole different Beast right in your arm that’s a whole different Beast so I definitely I’m G to

Give a lot of Runway okay I I’m gonna give him I’m giving him till Delow I I think if it Delow that he doesn’t and again context matters but if he’s not getting a Podium by deago I have big question marks about whether or not he is improving in a

Meaningful way or if that shoulder now is a limitation whether psychologically or physically that are it just limits his ability to be successful on tour so I mean that’s a course that he’s won at he’s played fantastic there uh there’s plenty of room in between that he gets

To go over to Europe I lots of lots of opportunity in my mind that up until then that we should be able to see Eagle playing well uh but deago is at that point I start to throw up some red flags how many tournament I love this

One Josh great great pick here how many tournaments do you need to see evina Salin putt at a reasonable level you can decide what that is for you mhm before you say okay I trust her putt enough that I believe that she’s going to be a competitive you know chance to

Win every week yeah consist like like uh consecutive tournaments is that what we’re thinking or I mean anybody can have an off week but sure how like what stretch of time do you need to see her putting at you know leag average let’s say for you to feel confident that she’s

Gotten over The Yips let me let me answer it this way for you if she doesn’t have a Yips tournament through US Women’s I will put the book Away of evina and her bad putting because here’s here’s the thing if she is able to putt through a major

And continue to putt consistently for four tournaments in a row I know that’s a short sample size but in the highest moments of a US Women’s tournament like we have seen evina do it before to me that tells me she’s back again she’s got the win she’s been in the pressure

Situations she does it through US Women’s and I I will put that away and I’m done talking about it because evina is back to stay it’s a good it’s a good answer I think the reason that I I actually think I’m going to go one tournament

Earlier I’ll say if she opens up here here at chess.com Waco Texas or uh open at Austin uhhuh I’m saying it we’re we’re we’re good to go we’re smooth sailing wow and here’s why here’s why okay all right because it’s not just chess.com you have to go back and look

At the end of last season and what you will see is what we saw at chess.com Y which is that she looks confident she’s not three putting she’s making occasional longer range putts from 25 out MH um there’s still obviously much more progress you can make as a putter

But we’re not seeing the the yippin that we saw for most of the last two years but it’s we’ve already seen that for a few months at the end of last year and now we see that same thing again at chess.com as she pulls away to a

Dominating Victory yep I think if we see two more weekends of this I’m going to say okay th this is the thing of the past not to say it could come back sure it always could this kind of thing that very mental game but I don’t

I don’t necessarily need to see her do it through the pressure of a major to feel like she’s already turned the corner because I think we saw to throw pink that she was she was putting fine all right I you know I thought I was spicy with like oh yeah just three

More tournaments and uh I feel like I just got prices right where you just doll Bel I’m regretting that I I sold all my evina stock at the beginning of the season already I gave up I gave up Y and now I’m just looking for anything to get me back

In all right all right um next one how many more podiums does Ella get without winning before she moves to the shed oh my goodness the the Always In Contention but never winning shed it’s next to the Hall of Fame that shed by the way right well so there’s basically ins for

Our subscribers but yeah there’s two sheds ones who haven’t won who are always in contention and then there’s the ones who can’t win Majors but are always in contention so two sides this a teered shed yeah um that’s a good one is she when is when is Ella no longer an upand cominging

Player you know yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah I think this is the year so I I say this I give her the year I give her the year like let’s say she wins MVP it’s going to feel like when Mato on MVP you know like sure but if it so Counterpoint

Then well okay that’s so your answer is this is her this is her third year on full-time tour I think coming up I think that’s right 21 22 2 she like started playing in covid but like didn’t fulltime to her yeah yeah I think she played a little

Bit in 21 but but definitely 22 23 and now 24 yeah okay well let me give you my answer then you just said if she wins MVP it’ll feel like mtio right to me that tells me that she is already very close to the shed like she’s knocking on the door

She’s booked her reservation in there she gets a Podium to start this tournament and the biggest problem with Ella is that her her podiums have come in some brutal fashion wakeo she threw it away in the last couple holes uh chess.com Invitational she had a chance

To be in contention she was but not even that she was in the lead I mean she she she blew it at the beginning of her final round blew it blew it she had last season uh let’s see three four five five podiums and oh one’s a silver so so had

Four podiums with a a handful of like top 10 sprinkled in there in top fives uh listen one more Podium where Ella is in contention and doesn’t win Ella is in the shed for me that just feels aggressive to me but I I hear you I hear you I think it’s

Partly because she’s been good since she came on tour yes and that’s the hard stand off super early right US Women’s back in 21 right yeah so it does feel like she’s kind of tour veteran is at this point and like consistent top 10 and you know listen I

Want to point out being in the shed is still not many not many players get to be in the shed not many players get to be in the shed it it it’s uh it’s not exactly like where you want to be but it’s still an honor to be sheded yes

Yeah and and that’s not to say you can’t I mean Mio’s out of the shed now right yeah you can you can you can exit the shedo got out to The Winner Circle Anthony Bella is out of the shed like players are working their way out Ella

Can it’s but right now I mean she is she has booked her reservation and she’s getting ready to check it all right how long can Paul McBeth go without winning before he’s washed before he’s actually washed and not just like for one B tournament it’s so so the way I think

About this is at what point will I look at MC Beth and say like there there are no odds that you really could give me that he’s going to win right uh Nate ston like he’s an amazing player who still maybe would win a tournament right

If he pops off in a weekend he’s got the tools to win but no can’t give me odd I think so okay so you cannot give me the odd never wins again right okay right I would I would rather take the odds on him never winning again

Than him winning on any given week uh so that’s kind of what I’m picturing for MC Beth he has managed to win one every single year I do not think that he walks away though if he doesn’t win this year I maybe this is just a leash that is far

Too long to be reasonable um but I give him till the end of 2025 or like Midway through 2025 he could not win this year and I still think I would be hesitant to say yeah MC Beth’s never winning again yeah he’s definitely got that Tiger Woods Vibe he does he does

Where you’re just like still think he could win tiger won the Masters was it two years ago now it’s incredible um uh 2019 he’s 5 years out has really been f are you serious yeah what but oh my that happen before Co is like last year to me still to to your

Point tiger went 11 years without winning a major right right like nobody thought he could win again and and that’s that’s how I feel about MC Beth so I really I I have a hard time saying I could ever write this MC Beth obituary until like two years of no winning

Here’s why I basically agree and I think the time Horizon is actually like sort of a little ambiguous right now the reason is that he is dealing with an actually potentially severe injury that is going to require significant surgery and if he gets to surgery this year then

Like are you really going to expect him to come back and win no like I wouldn’t be surprised if he has to get the surgery he maybe doesn’t play or maybe he comes in backs and plays usdgc or something and that’s it that’s it but

Like I just I feel like there’s a long time Horizon right now because of the potential for this injury to be a problem moving forward now obviously being hurt and being unavailable and and not being able to get back to healthy I mean that is one of the ways that players can become

Washed it’s unfortunate I don’t root for that I don’t want to see that but it is it is a thing that happens it knocks incredible players from the NBA we a weren’t able to stay healthy and wash out of the leag even though they could have been alltime

Greats uh now obviously MC Beth has already established his bonafides and even if he never wins again he’s still going to be tremendously popular and you know he’ll probably be in contention even playing through injuries just because of how how gifted he is the game

But you know I I think it the window is like maybe even into 2026 for me before I’m like fully ready to say it’s over cuz he’s he’s still under you know he’s 31 I think so there’s some time here but the injury makes it a big question mark

Yeah but but big window I I think the tiger is just a perfect an comparison there all right let’s let’s let’s end with the um conversation that has been bubbling a lot uh the dgn app okay y on your various devices iOS Android TV Apple TV Roku whatever however you try to consume

Things have not been 100% let’s be honest you know you still can’t do picture and picture on Android right I cannot I mean as a as a final round at Champion or chess.com and you you could on iPhone but you had to hit the button and if you didn’t hit the button it

Didn’t work so like there’s like little funkiness and like people are having all kinds of problems with some of the TV apps when do these all need to be working and I’m not saying like absolutely 100% perfect all the time because you never know like little

Things happen but when does it need to be mostly fully functional um here here’s I’m going to put a qualifier on my answer my answer is end of Texas Swing so they have through Texas to get this fixed so that I I’m not noticing bugs routinely and the same bugs routinely

Um and and so my answer is end of Texas swing with the qualifier that I need to see improvements week to week and that’s part of the reason I have been willing to like kind of Overlook it is because there has been progress made uh and and and there have

Been steps taken to improve the app in the Stream as long as I continue to see that I will give them the month and change that they would get from the Texas Swing but if it stalls and I don’t see any improvements uh you know my patience

Announced on social media that they are going to be having a baby in July so big congratulations to them uh absolutely an exciting time and uh you know no talk about how that’s going to affect them their touring schedule Etc but just that announcement so far so just wanted to

Wish them both a big congratulations congratulations indeed but uh Katrina kind of blowing up my take about her getting back inside the uh top 10 in July she sure showed you Charlie yikes um but no really low it’s like she probably won’t play the rest of the year and that’s that’s fine like

These people still have lives right they’re not just beholden to us as players that we want to watch play disc golf so uh congrats to them and uh you know this to be honest maybe this conversation for another day but this could signal the end of like an elite

Competitive career for Katrina Allen and I I wouldn’t have said that just based on like the recent Spate of poor play but I you know this just changes your life in a big in a big way absolutely uh next Kristen tatara and silver lot posted some videos uh and

Pictures on their social media they were at the 106th Independence Day presidential reception in Estonia and it it looks like something out of a movie Charlie it doesn’t look like something that disc golfers should be invited to it just as a reminder of that Kristen tar is a real celebrity in Estonia

And uh nothing compares to it over here in the US just a fantastic looking couple they get to go to the the presidential Gala and like yeah she’s like on the the covers of magazines she’s like a fitness influencer it’s amazing I mean what a what a story and if she keeps playing

Like she’s been playing she’s going to like seriously become like an A-list celebrity in Estonia at some point yeah I don’t know where she is right now on the lists she’s got to be close I I really I think she’s got to be higher than that she’s not a movie star

Like no but how big is Disc Golf in Estonia I don’t know maybe I’m wrong we’re really hoping to have Kristen on the show soon yeah um it’s been a little crazy we were going to have her on she got sick and now she’s you know she’s

About to be traveling to the us so I don’t know when it’s going to happen but we’ll ask her like what celebrity list start you on does she get recognized when she’s just out of the grocery store yes yeah great question that’s A-list right that’s you’re starting to get

Close that’s for sure yeah okay uh Brody Smith shared some thoughts on tour life you know Brody had a a tough weekend finishes up far closer to the bottom than he does the top of the tournament and you know very open about his feelings that this has been you know he

Wasn’t practicing as much that it’s been difficult it’s been kind of a grind uh you know UL laari talking about how it’s uh it’s it’s burnout and that a lot of Pros go through and experience this Charlie interesting thoughts coming from Brody because you know he’s been trying

To grind at this and you know he’s had good tournaments but never really made the Breakthrough success that I think he expected to have by this point you know I wonder how much he truly expected to be able to CL climb all the way up the ladder to the top I

Mean he’s had top 10 finishes on tour but yeah I mean I thought it was a very interesting and honest take that we don’t get from Pros much I think this is one of the reasons that Brody has like developed fan base in disc golf yeah won

A lot of people over who are maybe skeptical or didn’t like him initially and you know his willingness to be honest Give opinions not be afraid to say something inflammatory sometimes and talk openly about like how he’s feeling when a lot of players could just brush it off and

Say I had a bad weekend but you know I’m back to the grindstone you know uh like how many Instagram posts have we seen that say the exact same thing when a player has a bad weekend you know tough out there at the chess.com Invitational uh but uh you know it’s

Like a picture of them with their head down and like just the same platitudes week after week after week and that’s not how everybody really feels inside that’s not how you feel Brody’s talking about how he actually feels which is that like he’s kind of burned out he’s

He’s you know not feeling as motivated to get out there and play and you know to be honest we’ve seen this with Brody in other endeavors yes this happened to him in Ultimate this happened to him in golf and dis golf he’s like found sort of like a new career Renaissance in a

Way but it could be happening now where like he’s someone who gets really into something for a stretch of time and then stops loving it mhm and so I don’t know what this will mean for the long term Brody insinuated on the Pod that he you

Know maybe will just play out the rest of his Discraft contract and then maybe that’s it who knows it’s it’s it’s easy for these things to change too a little taste of success some practice putting somebody gives you a motivational email and it can kind of like reignite some

Fire Within you but I think let’s be honest Brody’s never going to win a Pro Tour event and he’s already on the older side of his 30s and so like where are you like what are the expectations what what’s the reasonable expectations to me Brody has

Already been and has more even more so embraced being a pundit in dis golf he does what we do right he happens to be better at DIS golf than us he have to have a name recognition but like he’s really a pundit who knows the pros well

Because he plays on tour and that’s a role that I think is what makes people interested in him a lot more than how he’s competing on the course and and I think you you touch on something that is uh very notable in the difference between Brody and other Pros

Is that other Pros depend on disc golf and in order to survive right that’s their paycheck comes from the fact that they play and that they play well Brody gets the opportunity to be honest to uh you know poke some Egos and to make people upset in the sport that other

People need to keep happy because he doesn’t depend on disc golf he was a celebrity when he came into it and he’s going to remain a celebrity afterwards and so that gives him more permission for this these honest takes and to talk about these things in a way that Pros I

Don’t think have the same opportunity there are some who do could talk more but choose not to um but but that’s exactly right and so whatever he chooses to do in disc golf whether it’s playing whether it’s punditry like he’s got a lot of opportunity thanks to the careers

That he has built himself from Ultimate trick shots and golf yeah and let’s be honest he came into the sport in a privileged position yeah he was under the wing of Paul MCB Beth he got plugged into Paul mcbeth’s company which Paul then with kind of with beef with Brody left the whole

Organization and Brody also of course had a lot of people who followed him already and was this sort of you know quasi celebrity in disc Sports coming into the sport yep so he’s been able to sell Frisbees and make the big dollars that are normally reserved for players who are winning

Tournaments without having to win tournaments and so that’s very lucky that’s very lucky position to be in but I think he has taken advantage of his strengths as kind of a personality and leverage that into a successful disc golf career that does not include making much money at

Tournaments and he’s very lucky to be able to do that sure um and I think he can probably continue to do that even if he doesn’t play anymore yep uh last thing 302 rule Kevin Jones made a post on Instagram where he talked about his round uh at the chess.com Invitational

Said you know I finished with a two under and someone pointed out well then why does your scorecard reflect a zero an even and Kevin said it’s CU he was assessed a two-stroke penalty due to a new PDGA rule that he was unaware of that PDGA rule dictates that you have to

Be at your round or at at the T box for your round five minutes before te time starts Kevin Jones was not there and as a result was assessed a two-stroke pen Charlie what’s what’s your thoughts because this has gotten more traction on the internet than I thought it would

Have and I was actually kind of surprised by that so I want to hear your thoughts first though about this Rule and this this situation you got to know the rules and I guarantee you that it was communicated to players that this was a new rule and most players did not take

This penalty because they were on time and I have no problem at all all with players being expected to be at their te 5 minutes early I mean that’s not even it’s not like players this is not a c tier players are not rolling up to the course two minutes

Before their tea time to go and walk on the tea and throw their shot they’re at the course an hour early throwing drives putting getting warmed up so to be at the tea 5 minutes early is not any kind of Burden whatsoever so anybody complaining about this is just totally

Wrong this is like a baseline expectation of what it is to be a professional athlete like this is just like you don’t just get to show up at game time for a baseball game or a football like you’re there hours earlier yep and so to be at the tea five minutes

Early isn’t even anything like to me this is just like Kevin happened to be the one who had to learn the hard way and this will not be an issue at all moving forward uh you know Charlie I just pulled up the uh PDGA official rules announcement and scrolled through

And guess what it’s one of the highlighted rules that it made the changes I mean it’s in there and you know look if my if my livelihood depended on disc golf I would know these rule changes inside and out and in in Kevin Jones fairness my the way I read

His social media was not like he he he didn’t he wasn’t like complaining about said rule he doesn’t there was not a complaint he just said what happened he said what happened yeah exactly there were other people though who have since jumped in and said that it was unfair

And that it was shouldn’t have happened and uh to them I think that’s ridiculous you know my Line in the Sand for this rule is being late once and you take the penalty and I don’t feel sorry for you sorry yeah five minutes five five minutes it’s

Your tea That’s don’t you already have to be there 2 minutes early anyway yeah right like so like what is the problem here did Kevin Jones hear his name being announced and he was over at the practice putting green he goes oh shoot I should probably get over there like is

This wild oh yeah anyway 5 minutes early it’s reasonable be on time Charlie that’s it for 30 on time be on time unlike in the 30 second rule segment uh that’s going to do it for today’s show thank you so much for tuning in we’ll be back with you Tuesday

Next week as we get ready for upcoming Waco tournament we’ll talk Memorial and more for Josh Mansfield I’m Charlie eyes going to say in so long and we’ll talk to you next week right here on the up Shop

  1. Just got married yesterday on leap day. We're gonna have to figure out if we want to celebrate our anniversary on the 28th or 1st for non-leap years, and then obviously do something big for leap years.

  2. This is a fun departure from the typical tone of the show. Pretty negative stuff here. I stopped watching any Brodie stuff after he said he doesn't even want to tell a competitor where the basket is and I need a little negative content to ween me down. I mean, it's not super negative but we're basically saying if X player doesn't do this by X day….they suck. At the very least, none of the players they are talking about would appreciate the discussion. It's in good fun but still a departure.

  3. I think we can state with great confidence that Evalina would have won Chess with Kristin in the field considering her putting stats. So whether or not we "worry" about Kristin shouldnt have much to do with how the field is playing right? The Field has leveled up, Kristin is going to have less than 5 wins and its fine, she's fine

  4. I think this is the end of catrina Allen's career she's already in her 40s right I just don't see her winning anymore congratulations on the baby though

  5. I just renewed my subscription to F1 TV – $84 dollars for the year (12 months not just the season). I can watch every single race, practice, qualifying session. As well as F2, F3 and the new female F1 Drivers Academy. Also, I can watch EVERY SINGLE race thats ever been air and recorded for all time, back to the 1970's. Also includes a service that does live timing (equivalent of live scoring).

I know its apples to oranges in some ways, I'm not comparing quality, but come on DGPT – you are making it hard to justify your value

  6. Line in the sand topic – udisc pro pricing. How much are you willing to pay per year for current Pro features?

  7. Dig the Line in the Sand idea! And maybe is there a way to have us viewers (or maybe subscribers only?) suggest the Top 3 to talk about on the Upshot? You guys hit on all the current ones I thought of.
