Scotty Cameron’s Austie Rollinson breaks down all of the new tech in the 2024 Phantom putters. There are new head shapes along with cutting edge alignment and construction.
All right already well we’re here Titus TPI most one of the most amazing ranges ever but we’re not hitting balls on a range we’re on a putting green and my good friend ausy rollinson we’re here with Scotty camon Putters aren’t we brand new 2024 Phantom Putters so pretty
Cool uh he just kind of showed me inside all the different uh models everything a lot of kind of faces you’ll recognize a couple that maybe you won’t are new um but kind of a a brand new design philosophy that not only do we have some amazing Milling amazing designs but
They’re for a reason right they all kind of help with alignment so can you talk a little bit about what we’re looking at with these brand new Phantom models yeah with the initial conversations I had with Scotty he really wanted these designs to look fast industrial Elegance
That kind of feel so the the beautiful Milling lines the the fast features of it to kind of give it Inspire confidence but he wanted those fast features for a reason and that for alignment so if you look at these design designs you’ve got the Top Line kind of slopes down and
Back at an angle to create kind of an arrow type feature that’s going to help you align the putter to your target better and we didn’t just do it Off The Top Line we look on the subtle and the cavity there’s those lines and even on the tips of this number seven there’s
Those angled lines to help you use the putter head in general the shape of the putter to help you align better yeah it’s pretty unique and in in in a way almost subtle if you didn’t know you almost maybe wouldn’t notice some of the angles uh that are there to kind of help
Promote uh that that alignment exactly and so those features those outside oml features really work well with the alignment cues the alignment marks that we put on these so you’ve got we’ve got our kind of TR to True five and seven shape that are really those shapes that
For the player that is going from a blade into a mallet it’s got a top line but then a really subtle three dot alignment into our new 9 and 11 model that have a little more overt a little more significant alignment Mark where you have have the line going from face
All the way to the back to take full advantage of the whole top of the putter to work as an alignment feature as well yeah and there’s like you said kind of the tried andr designs that we’ve seen but they are new and different I mean there’s some some slightly different
Shaping to some of the uh the tried and- true models and then some of these new ones that have some pretty exciting sole plates as well we’ve seen uh aluminum so plates used in many of the Phantom Putters of past uh but the new ones built a little differently right you’re
Trying to kind of improve the sound and feel exactly you know so the the Phantom X line previous one has had great sound great feel to it but we wanted to make it better we wanted to make it more consistent As you move from model to
Model so we really looked to the sole plate to make those changes and of course the aluminum sole plate is there to move weight to the perimeter of these malet Putters to make them super forgiving but when you’re doing that you got to be mindful of how you put these
Things together and the thicknesses of that aluminum so one of the things we did is we thickened up the aluminums sometimes as much as 40% which which is great in the aluminum that’ll add stiffness but not a lot of weight because it’s such a light low density
Material um the other thing we looked at doing is how that SLE play is attached to the stainless steel the 303 stainless steel so it’s got screws that are holding it as well as vibration damping tape um so we move those screws closer to the face where you’re impacting it to
Make it more secure up there so you stop vibrations from even starting which are going to come to your ear as kind of sometimes awkward sounds or Hollow sounds um the other place that we improved is is that vibration damping material that’s in between the aluminum steel you really don’t want aluminum
Steel touching because that could cause buzzing and bad sound so you want to optimize that put it in the right places to make sure that it sounds solid sounds consistent um and has that class of Scotty Cameron sound and feel and when you talk about sound and consistency I
Mean a lot of you are talking so every model pretty much in this line every Phantom model is going to kind of feel and sound the same so even if you like the shape of of one head over another you’re going to get that same solid
Sound and feel that you would in any of these right that was our goal and I think we we’ve gotten pretty darn close to that yes that’s pretty awesome and then on the other end of the the the club we have a brand new grip here so
Explain a little it’s a unique looking grip something I haven’t really seen before but tell us a little about bit about this new grip yeah so one of the the features of this grip is it’s a little different this end cap is kind of angled and that’s to really play into
The fast streamline look to the heads Scotty really wanted that same look into the grip to give it a unique look but we didn’t stop there um this is a new paddle grip for us um our previous models have had a pistolero uh grip on it which is kind of a larger pistol
Style grip we wanted to be more on Trend with some of the putters some of the grips out there in the marketplace at a little more not as much taper so a little more parallel sides but from this side You’ve Really Got a pistol type geometry so you got the pistol kick in
The top that really fits the palms of your hands really nicely under your thumbs and then the way we’ve contoured it makes it so there’s not a lot of pressure point so the the hands are going to be on there very comfortably and without those pressure points you
Get a nice light grip and it’s slightly oversized so it’s going to fit your hands nicely really take the hands out of the swim which a lot of people going into mallets that’s what they want employ those larger muscles simplify those that stroke so the grip is going
To play a large part in that and and as all paddle grips do we wanted to make sure there was a nice significant flat on the top that where ples your thumb so you can feel that flat and gives you great face awareness for that where the
Where square is in your stroke yeah and it’s a nice kind of soft brush uh brush rubber as well it’s got of comfortable just in the texture of it in your hand as well yeah we love rubber grips I think we get it adds a nice vibration
Damping part to to the to the feel of the putter um and he can have a nice soft feel to it so it’s got kind of smooth on top and then it’s got our this new chain link texture on the bottom so you get a little bit bit of grip a
Little bit of smooth just a real comfortable feel and then also face uh a little different face Milling as well correct uh it seems a little deeper uh than previous Phantoms but uh talk a little about the face as well while I hit a couple puns okay yeah so all the
Phantoms like the previous Phantom we wanted to make sure that there’s 30 or three stainless steel on the face and you know the the Scotty Cameron customer loves that feel of stainless steel it gets a nice crisp sound and feel um the right feedback but like our super select
We went to a what we’re calling a dual Mill so it’s a combination of a deep Mill and a smooth Mill basically you put a deep Mill in it which is going to give you a nice soft sound less material of the face hitting the ball but then we
Take the peaks of the that deep Mill take them off to make it smooth on the tip so you get a nice consistent feel nice consistent surface but you’ve got those voids in there that really going to help absorb sound and give you a slightly s softer uh sound but still
That crisp Scotty Cameron sound yeah I mean it’s pretty amazing that those I mean just three butts that I hit it definitely is soft and that sound is very muted and you get just get that little audible uh uh feedback of kind of where you hit it on the face a little
Bit so when you hit strike it dead center it’s just really soft and it goes and if you miss it just a little bit on the toe of the heel you kind of feel and hear that just a little bit so you know kind of what not to do next up yeah it’s
Really important um that the impact has some sound to it because you want to make sure cuz that a lot of golfers will judge their speed by that sound they hit a 6ft putt they want to make sure it looks like a 6ft Putt and sounds like a
6ot putt a lot of times if the sound doesn’t match what they’re seeing that’s a bad thing yeah so a whole line we’ve got what how many models uh in the brand new Phantom I mean how many just head shapes I know there different necks and
Yeah we have four head shapes you know the five which is you know one of the salt warts in our in our line um we’ve cleaned up that look a little bit you know streamlined the shape a little bit it’s a little more compact we’ve got great in response to that
The number seven the new number nine which is a ring weighted design um with the alignment lines going from front to back and then a new Phantom 11 line which is our most highest Moi Wing design it’s got really cool Wing feature on the sole uh it’s going to be most
Most forgiving and it has the most alignment help on that design and all these designs will come in our our jet neck5 neck um for a little more tow hang and then we have a five in a center shaft and then left-handed both the 75 and the 115 so there’s something for
Everybody in this line you’ll find it that’s right yeah if there’s some type of putter you’re looking for there’s something in the Phantom line to have it so ausy thank you very much really appreciate the time uh the new Putters look amazing so please you want to check
Out the new Phantom blind please check them out they look great
