Hello everybody and welcome back to episode number 11 of the BMA preps podcast I’m here is Vlad valuk and I’m joined by my co-host Mason colmer and today we’re going to bring you a bunch of different offseason topics we’re going to kind of create a synopsis of
Everything that’s happened so far in the offseason this isn’t the final offseason podcast we plan to make we’ll have another one uh around 7even on seven Camp season and then we’ll also have another one previewing the 2024 High School season but you know that’s still what 6 months away so we deced decided
We’re going to take a look back a little bit in the reclassifications that have happened the coaching changes that have happened and we’re going to take a look at some of the different schedules and everything that has really changed there’s a lot of interesting stuff and especially with some of these coaching
Changes we’re going to give a grade to four five maybe we’re going to take a look at some of the different changes and see what happened and then we’re also going to take a look back at some of the preseason predictions that I made coming in the last season I gave a floor
And a ceiling for 19 teams we’re going to take a look at those teams see how they did and grade their season see how right see how wrong I was but you know I have a good feeling that I fell somewhere in the middle but let me introduce you to my charismatic co-host
Mason colmer what’s up man welcome back bro are we back we might be back is the BP pod back are we back are we back all right I think we’re back we’re back so let’s jump right into everything and the first thing we I talk about is some of
These coaching changes that have taken place and man I tell you what there’s been some interesting ones but none as interesting as Hoover letting go of Wade walri walri resigned headed to Orange Beach we’ll talk about that one in a little bit but Hoover brings in 15 and0 state championship winning head coach
Drew Gilmer from Klay Chalkville high school man this is a good hire what do you think about this one look when you open up a coaching search you go and find the best possible coach and you know maybe Greg burn took a little possible look at this coaching
High you went and took a coach that led his team to a perfect season you go and you bring him in and he just beat the best one of the best teams in State history and undoubtedly LED one of the best teams in State history to a state
Championship and after all the pressure was on his shoulders after failing in 2022 to get back to that State title game their motto this year was Redemption and they redeemed and this Hoover hire is amazing I think it’s going to take Hoover back to where Hoover belongs and Hoover being good is
Good for the state of Alabama yeah no I I definitely agree um we’re going to be grading them you know A+ a a minus and it is really tough for me to give this great to give this hire anything but an A+ but there’s still some unproven you
Know um Hoover lost a lot of talent you know I think coach Gilmer’s going to have to do a good job of rebuilding everything and we’re definitely going to be out there this off season checking them out uh you know sort of gauging where they’re at so I’m going to give
This hire an a what do you think look I’m going to give it an A plus if he could do what he did with Jaylen mbak I think he can make Jonah Winston the next big thing out there yeah no doubt um you know and we’re yet to see you know how
He incorporates Winston in the offense um I think it’s going to be very interesting to see because I think that you know towards the end of the season Winston proved himself as the guy um shach who was a quarterback at the beginning of the Season got replaced
With Jonah Winston and you know they they put rally Shaw in at running back you know it really seemed like Hoover was doing anything it was anything to try to win a game yeah and they got past James Clemens and then they ran into a really really good hu trustful team that
We’ll talk about later on in the podcast and yeah I got to say really really like this hire um I think it’s the best possible hire they could have made unless they could have gotten Mark Freeman from Thompson and I don’t think he’s leaving so I think that Drew Gilmer
Is the best case scenario right now for Hoover and I think he’s going to do a really good job of building this program back where it needs to be um and getting vers in the personnel and everything is something that I’m going to have to take
A look at um but yeah a for me A+ for you um yeah I mean what else is there to say about this you know you get a proven state championship winning coach multi-time state championship winning coach um I don’t know how much of the staff he’s going to bring over with him
But that’ll lead us into our next topic who fills the vacancy at Klay Chalkville they go with their offensive coordinator Stuart Floyd who is the epitome of a Klay Chalkville man uh played at Klay Chalkville coached at Klay Chalkville was the OC last year and now he gets his
Shot as the head man um when you lose a coach like Drew Gilmer it’s obviously going to be a blow just because of everything he did for that program but given the scenario just like coach sain retiring you know you’re not going to replace coach Savin um we can damn well
Try and I think that’s what um K choc was going to try and do here with Stuart Floyd um but here’s the thing you’re losing a lot of talent from that team um you know you have to see who the quarterback’s going to be I assume it’s
Going to be Aaron Fry who we got a chance to look at during Parker last season in the uh State 6A semi-final game when inak went down with a concussion we thought okay maybe Parker can find a way to claw back into this thing but Klay Chi’s defense held and
Aaron Fry took command of the offense and led them you know had a huge was like a 80- yard touchdown run and really put the nail in the coffin for that game so we’re yet to see what the quarterback is there but what do you think about this steuart Floyd higher at clay
Chville look there’s a new coach Floyd up there in the Pinson area trusso area another one now another one Floyd Mania is running wild up there but look that game back I’m going to give it a b b minus okay he’s unproven I almost want
To give him a C+ wow cuz really yeah he led him to his he was the OC on a team but when you have Jaylen mbak yeah who was one of the best players the state has ever seen he truly put that team on his back and took them to the state
Championship I mean it’s just really hard for me to this is a year maybe I’ll look back on it and be like man I was an idiot but I’m going to go B minus a firm B minus I’m going to give this a B+ um I think given the scenario I think an
Inhow in-house higher is perfect here um we’re not we’re not here saying there’s like a 30-day portal window but you know you got to think that a head coach leaves like if coach Floyd Le leaves and if he goes somewhere else if he follows Gilman to Hoover which he didn’t do you
Would think maybe some players would go follow them um but we yet to see the full impact of everything um but what from from what it looks like Clay is going to retain a lot um of what didn’t leave you know being theak The Barbers
Of the world Rod iy you know those sort of players um big [ __ ] yeah yeah man I’ll never forget that dude’s freaking two point bro that play was everywhere I mean I mean TOA if they really wanted to they could have gotten them but I think they’re like I’m not trying to tackle
You Tred to tackle what 6′ n 6′ 10 but it felt like it took him forever to get from like the eight yard line to the end zone and I’m not going to lie it wasn’t like y’all sit the biggest guys it was like y DBS were like I’m not
Going at his legs if I hit his leg I’m going to fall right back off he got some freaking tree trunks man yeah uh Oregon’s getting a good one there um but yeah no I give it a B+ you give it a B minus um yeah it’s it’s very much a wait
And see kind of thing for Klay Chalkville um interesting interesting with everything that transpired there um you know it’s it’s a State title defense year for them and you know maybe the sort of and when we get into re classes we’ll sort of talk about you know how 6A
Looks who some of the new contenders going to be there but 6A is really wide open and a big part of that is for First with Sarah and Ryan Williams reclass in 2024 um one of the best Playmakers state has ever seen is gone but on the other
Hand your defending state champions are going to be losing a lot of talent and you know the door could be open for a lot of other teams let’s jump to our third head coaching change that we’re going to talk about and that is Opa Leica and Eric Speakman leaving opaa um
I don’t I don’t obviously we never know if it’s truly a fired or like a resigned type of thing but Speakman out at opala and in is Brian Moore from Harel now hartel has been a pretty darn good team up North for the better part of the
Decade um you know I think that Coach Moore has done a good job building stability he got the job in 2020 and he made he’s made the playoffs every year he’s won three playoff games there before that he was a playoff winner at Jasper and before that he was a playoff
Winner at eala and I think that this is a very good hire for opica um definitely a new regime you know it felt like Speakman was there for a while at opala felt like you know the wheels were turning in mud a little bit not really
Going anywhere but now they get a fresh slate with a fresh head coach you’re going to be losing a bit of talent no more Roman Gagliano but you still get some of those defense defensive pieces back and you got to really think if this
Is going to be an opal a team that can now start to compete in 7A because we knew that they had the talent but you know they just had tough loss to Auburn a tough loss to Theodore they only lost to Central Phoenix City by 10 points who’s your undefeated state champions so
They’re you know they they were a hard playing football team and they had a murderous row of teams that they had to play against last season and you know it was just some tough losses down the stretch like last week of the regular season lost to Dothan 3834 they win that
Game they might be in the playoffs um you know 14-point loss to Enterprise this is not an opala team that is very far off do you think that Brian Moore can mend that Gap and where do you rank this higher I think it’s a great hire
They went and got the guy you follow not too far from opaa they went and got a in up here from Northern Alabama that kept harzel as a relevant program yeah harzel never looked the best in the playoffs don’t get me wrong but they put up some
Fights against some great teams in the regular season I think didn’t they beat Oxford this past season it was a it was a really close game with them let me check that Oxford uh let me go look at their 2023 season they lost to Austin 28-7 they lost in two overtimes to
Muscle schs a really good muscle schs team and yeah they beat Oxford 22-21 they also beat Gatson City who was another really good yeah so they beat really great teams he’s a proven winner he wins wherever he goes you follow I think when he was there was on like an a
Historic playoff streak of not missing the playoffs and I think that Streak still going thanks to co but um um I I got to give it a b b a b heart Soul’s a little bit different the lights are a lot brighter at opala I never forget pulling in to go play opala
And the middle of the town has a giant o with opala painted through it that’s a little intimidating so their expectations are definitely high at opala they’re kind of like Auburn they think they should be the best when there’s just you got to give it time that’s a good comparison
Opala is like the Auburn of region Auburn are Region 2 even though Auburn’s right there in Region 2 man we’re going to have people so confused I mean it it it doesn’t make sense though um you just got to give them time I don’t think I think Auburn winning a national championship every
Year is unrealistic let’s be honest um I think you got to give it time give him give him four years I think you give him a good two years at opala to get his foundation he’s bringing a lot of his staff with him from what I’ve been able
To tell right and based off of Twitter he’s creating a great Foundation he’s making those players feel special and I think that’s a good way to to start building a program we bold strategy cotton based off Twitter oh wow wow sorry Bas based off X my bad get the X’s
Up but that man I think it’s it’s a beeh high and I I think we could look back on this in a couple years and be like wow that’s a culture Dynasty building h up there there’s a lot of room for improvement here um you know Coach Moore
Uh he’s never won a State title um I don’t know his assistant record um but he’s been a head coach in high school football since 2015 and from he’s never missed the playoffs like as a head coach he’s literally never miss the playoffs whether it was that Jasper eala or
Hartel um so we yet to it’s it’s very much a wait and see and especially with how competitive region two looks right now um coming into the season as we’ll get into rec classes it’s it’s going to be tough it’s going to be really tough
For him you know there’s a lot of new faces there a lot of new teams and um navigating through a very fluid 7A especially with the way that the playoff brackets are going to pan out now we’ll see we’ll see um let’s move into our next coaching change that we had and
That is another 7A region 22 team a new 7A Region 2 Team Carver Montgomery Carver Montgomery for the better half of well they’ve never been in 7A they’ve been a 6A 5A team for the longest time they’ve had a lot of turnover with head coaches since
2008 um looks like they’ve had five or six since 2008 and you know Carver Montgomery there’s a lot of talent there but they have not been able to mend it into playoff success Marcus Gardner I think brought them a lot of good stability but he is out as their head
Coach and in is Bobby Carr now this was a really interesting hire because Bobby Carr does not have any experience at all between 1 18 through 7A he was an Asia head coach where he coached aaga Academy for The Last 5 Years and before that it was Edgewood Academy for 15 years and
Let me let me look over this again the dude won I think nine state titles in that span and he went Five Seasons from 2011 to 2015 without losing a game then he goes to taga Academy in 2017 and wins three state titles in five years there
There’s no doubt he can win everywhere he goes but making the jump from ASI the 7A is going to be a really tough one now Carver Montgomery will be getting a boost because of simul Lanier’s consolidation into Carver Montgomery he’s be he’s gonna be getting a bigger
Talent pool and that shows with Carver Montgomery moving up to 7A um historically Carver Montgomery has not won a State title since um never wow I I thought they may have won no they they’ve never won a State title um so maybe something can change here with carmont and Bobby Carr
Um very unproven hire give yourself a give a grade on this one tell me what you think look this one to me he’s unproven on the ahsaa level Aisa is a lot different than the ahsaa we’ve seen a lot of teams make the move and took
Him a minute to hit the ground running Tuscaloosa Academy’s had great success since making the move but like this is mcgomery Carver is a hard place to win they’re getting an influx of town I believe they have a returner coming from IMG really I I can’t think of his name I
Saw it on a Al 6A they posted about it okay so he’s coming back from IMG to Montgomery Carver that’ll be big upgrade but it’s a hard place to win yeah especially lack of inconsistency in the playoffs you win the region with two five lineman and don’t do much after
Don’t do much after a lot of teams could take that and run with it I mean look at Thompson with Jeremiah Alexander and Peter woods so right it’s just a hard place to win the talent’s there it’s one of the bigger schools in montg and I
Honestly think he could attract a lot of attention there and maybe become a Powerhouse in Region 2 he could be in a fight for the four seed every year there in Region 2 give him a few years but I got to give it a c just due to being
Unproven and not a lot going for him yeah yeah and he you know it’ll be interesting to see um and I didn’t even see this in 2022 he had a year at Presbyterian Christian High School in Mississippi where he went four and eight you remember the uh coach on that
Overtime show from Arkansas that refused to he only onside kicked it he went to Presbyterian College for a year they won their first game like 77 to 10 and then he lost like a game by like 80 and they fired him and I think he’s back at that
Academy yeah well hopefully we don’t have a coach that does that here hey I think that’s a good strategy I might go coach your team that way it could work in the lower classifications let’s be honest working my work in ASI dude they need some new schools they’re losing a
Lot hey go of Angel Bab maybe yeah and that that you know that brings up completely different dilemma with a bunch of ASI schools moving up a lot of these eight-man high school programs are starting to make the jump up to 11 I know Cornerstone they have to play half
Of their season 11 man and half of their season eight man God that’s tough and it’s just but it’s the same with Evangel Evangel has to go play some teams when they play a team with 11 men they get murdered because they don’t have death
Right but when you play eight a lot of those eight man you can go and have death they yeah did you give this a grade I gave a c c yeah no this is this is going to be a C+ for me um oh I didn’t give Brian more a grade I’ll give
Him a b as well I think it’s pretty even comparison there but yeah I’m going to give this a C+ um the dude’s a proven winner um but it it’s just it’s going to be it’s going to be tough to see this is this is an unprecedented jump that we
Have seen um very very much a wait and see and for other moves um Eric Speakman goes to f Academy after Jack French is outed there Decor hires John Ritter your Alma moer C High School is it an alma moer in high school or is it just like
No it’s your Alma moer because you know at the end of each game you sing your Alma moer oh I’m stupid they hire Scott ryles from Baldwin County I think that’s a good hire you go down south get your guy yeah and there’s a couple of vacated spots
Right now BT Washington who just had a great run but the big one the big one to meet we got go down mobile baker their coach just recently retired I believe he’s finishing out the I think he’s finishing out the year there and then’s possibly going to just
Retire from the state and move over to Mississippi which a lot of coaches down there do because it’s right it’s right there I mean look at Josh he retired from Hoover moved right there gosh that makes me want to go talk about schedules Bud yeah we’ll get there we’ll get there
We’re just going to sort of scroll over every hire um Carol still needs a head coach Patrick plot out at Carol how do you like this RI higher at ker though surely you have a little bit of Insider Insight Insight look um he’s shown up he
He wants to run the spread look yeah baby don’t they all the spread Works R baby run that spread it works great but uh you you got to get a I believe they have a quarterback that’s capable of running the spread he’s just got to get a bit decision making down um they’ve
Got some running backs that I think can help take them they got the skill players to lead them I could see K honestly go into the playoffs this year just because the team they have now it’s got a lot of talent and they also got a
Lot of talent coming in the key though being in Kera we lose a lot of talent surrounding schools Thompson pelum Alina yeah and I’ve seen that first a say at Thompson K Kids move over the the key is for Coach RI to build a foundation quick or he’s going to start losing Talent
Quick and it’s hard to build a team without talent and the hardest thing is something Hamlin had to do he had came in quick and had to create a winning culture from a losing culture and it’s hard to be to get a losing culture out
Yeah no it’s a lot easier to lose a winning culture than it is to get rid of a losing culture very astute point there for my amazing co-host bro I was I sat on three years of one and N for what a year of I didn’t even play we won seven
Games I got you man here well let’s jump down to a newly kned is that the word kned a newly a newly kned foray where Mobile Christian and Coach Ronnie Katrell calls it a career retires for Mobile Christian I saw somewhere he’s trying to go back
To the college level um made me wonder if South Alabama was giving him a call yeah that’s that’s interesting but Ronnie catell comes out on top finally puts the nail in a amazing career where he wins his first ever State title took him a while took him a while 19 years in
The Alabama High School level spent four years in God Florida where he won a State Championship in 2012 but he finally gets it done and out goes Katrell and in comes Charles Lawson I believe he was an assistant at Mobile Christian and they make the jump to for
A with a lot of talent still there so it’s going to be very interesting to see how they comp in for if I’m not mistaken they were just at for a not too long ago right or it might have been um let me check that for you cuz I think they just
Dropped down I remember them competing at 4A with the TR Mill for a little bit yeah yeah no they’ve been they made the state championship as a 4A team if I’m not mistaken they didn’t no they were 4A in 21 and 22 they went 9-2 second round
Out and then it went 5- six and 21 well in 21 they’ve like forfeited half of their games due to an eligible player really gosh imagine if who was it Sterling Dixon imagine if is that who was no no Dixon left this year yeah but imagine if he would have been there this
Past year that that mobo Christian team would have been dangerous yeah so let’s move down um stay down south let’s go a little bit to the my compass off East what are we saying West let’s go over to the West Orange Beach Orange Beach I I
Love the beach apparently not a lot of coaches love the beach I mean do B W walr is liking the beach is he going to go bash at the beach with Golf Shores compete over there have you seen that new facility did you see the new high school Golf Shores just proposed yeah
Bro you remember like Victoria like the mockup like or like the shows back in the day with like the mockup outdoor high schools I just don’t think that’s I don’t think that’s going to work in Alabama it’s too humid man we’ll see they they want to outdoor high school
Well it’s going to be like walkways and stuff it looks like it looks like d Golf Shores University going down there if I’m in Orange Beach I want to be inside in the air conditioning when I’m not when I’m not on the beach I want to
Be inside yeah like they need to build a dome that might just be the Russian but Orange Orange Beach is so nice I think they’re they’re competing with Golf Shores quick andiz they and they’re bring a great to do it I say what you want about his 10 in Hoover he kept them
In the playoffs beat Thompson beat Thompson with a very less talented team than Thompson had that year yeah no and you know say what you will about this uh La pass season he won a playoff game and competed um you know I think he gave Thompson a good run for their money um
Played a really good game against Mountain Brook some of the other games are looing me um had a loss to AOW and overtime and you know coach walri can bring stability to Orange Beach you know they’ve had a couple of fleeting hires coach dubos heads to I believe
Buxy Mississippi yeah High School which they had a pretty good record but they just got a great coach coming their way yeah yeah no doubt and let’s talk about some other vacant like Pinson Valley still hasn’t hired which is shocking I mean they’re used to be in the standard
But ever since Nicks left and Arya Holmes was a or was it wasn’t Arya Holmes gosh who’s the miles coach um well Z Andrew Z no Andrew Z is not the miles Coach Andrew was K but he went to no he went to best city he went to he
Coached up Pinon after Knicks no he didn’t he went to bester City how much you want bet I’ll bet $50 that Andrew Z never coached at Pinson Valley are you yes you did no he didn’t right here Sam Shay oh I’m down some money okay yeah sorry paying for dinner tonight
Apologies but um no Z went besser City silogan now he’s at Clemson that’s right about that what a freaking what a turn around look I’m not going to be I might be sitting pretty at a 5A caga school but if dbo sweetie comes Callin family we’re moving out there moving up man
Clemson’s such a nice area man it is yeah it is T County um 7A school really interesting there Adam we Garden resigns didn’t he leave and go to Troy yeah true he he went up to the college level so te County now needs a new head coach and
I’ll tell you what when when he came to te County man I had some expectations um and you know T County was in the gutter really uh for a while and he came in there and in his first season it was tough he went one- n but then he went
Six and4 and five- five and they hadn’t had a winning record before that since 2013 with Coach Lee Gibson and you know before that they were a pretty darn good team throughout the mid 2000s um so whoever takes his te County job is going to have a tough go of things um it’s
Going to be really interesting to see because they’re still there in 7A Region 3 um so it’s very much a wait and see for what’s going to happen are you ready to jump to these uh region regions let’s do it yeah um talk about a little bit of
The coaching changes so we’re now going to jump over to reclassification had a lot of interesting things develop um so let’s jump into 7A region one Roberts Dale moves in uh very questionable obviously School population is the deciding factor here other than competitive balance but competitive
Balance you only really see that and 5A 4 a down um but Robertsdale who went 0 and 10 last year is up to 7A you know you we talked about you know previous years Kera and Chelsea moving into 7A Region 3 and they had gone like five and five six never went
7 I’m sorry I mean Chelsea and um who went up was it Gaton for a little bit Yeah Gaton City apolog yeah and and those schools moved had Chelsea had clear on their mind um but Robertsdale moves into 7A haven’t won a game last year uh none of the games were really
Close really interesting there they’re yet to hire a head coach um I mean we’ll see it’s it’s going to be tough it’s going to going to be tough I do think that they move into the weakest region um especially with Baker losing their head coach losing their Star Quarterback losing their star
Receiver um Mary Montgomery losing their star receiver losing their Star Quarterback um I think it provides a team like Daphne or Fair Hope to take the next step Foley also lose as a star receiver so I think region one’s really wide open right now and and the way the
New playoffs are going to shake out they’re going to be the new team playing they’re going to be the new region playing Region Three this upcoming playoffs so it’s going to be really interesting to see what happens there now we move to region two where we have
As we mentioned earlier Bobby Carr and Carver Montgomery moving up we already spoke a little bit about them and they’re moving into a murderous region with auburn Phoenix City Doan Enterprise all teams that made the playoffs last season and then Opa Leica as we talked about with coach Brian Moore moving in
There other teams in that region Smith Station and J you know still trying to find their footing Region 3 really interesting um HR Tuscaloosa who made the second round of the playoffs last season moves into Region Three they retain their head coach they retain Bryson Kimber their quarterback they
Lose a little bit of talent defensively so it’s going to be really interesting to see how T County I’m sorry hillross taloa fans we do get that t County hillross game back that has been missing for a couple of years now they have no choice but to play each other because
They’re in the same region what do you think about this Hill Crest Tuscaloosa move up to 7A look I think it’s great for them they’re a great team team they haven’t been able to get over the hump just yet in the playoffs I believe they
Have not been able to get over the sand hump well no 20 um it’s slipping 21 they lost to Huey town in the semi that year and then 22 20 22 they beat Sant 21 they beat sine 22 they lost so 20 they lost to Hueytown
In the semis 21 they lost to s be beat s in 21 yeah that was freshman Ryan Williams 22 which gosh is this is crazy man 17 and getting ready to go be the second best receiver in the state of Alabama gosh that’s crazy turned 17 um
Then 22 lost to him dominating fashion 23 lost to him a little more competitive but hey um I think it’s good for them I think they can definitely compete that four spot I think going to be up for grabs I think they can compete with a Vestavia
Team I think they can compete with the huitt team I think they can compete with I think they could compete with a Hoover team this year year I think right now if we want to C if you want to beat Hoover this is the time to beat him cuz you
Give him I think you give honestly I’m giving Gilmer a year where it’s kind of going to be like okay he’s locked in they’re going to take over what kind of what Freeman did what Freeman it was a very it was a very quick change I mean
It’s hard taking after a team goes 0 and 10 like right let’s be honest I think um they can compete for a four seed for sure I think that rivalry coming back with Hill Crest te county is awesome it’s like Arkansas Texas we might need
To be there for that I mean it’s going to be a massive it’s like bringing back Texas Texas A&M next year right it’s going to be it’s going to be crazy and it they’re right there by each other that’s the Tuscaloosa rivalry it is and
It’s a shame it was gone for a few years yeah well they got to do it now well we clearly we we’ve talked about it before Hillcrest was ducking some in their non- region schedule so they they can’t duck anymore it’s going to be a great year
They went from one of the weaker 6A regions that that Tuscaloosa 6A region was not all that and now they move into West a nationally prominent like nationally regarded region is one of the hardest ones to compe in and another team moves over from region two into
Region Three Prattville oh man is that tough for Prattville it’s not it’s not the same Prattville we saw a few years ago back it’s not the same Prattville we saw in the mid 2000s and early 20 2010s um you know this is going to be a tough
Tough deal for Prattville um going to be losing losing a bit of talent and um you know with Chelsea moving out of that region I think that they are now the sort of I don’t want to say Whipping Boy because I don’t think I can ever really

Seed uh they gave they gave vavia a pretty good run for their money for all of a half of football um but other than that you know James Clemens perennial always going to be good Huntsville who hired new head coach excuse me hired a new head coach um where sort of yet to

County blunt and Murphy and maybe even Migel tulan who I think will have a better year than last year um but when they play Sahand when they going to play when they play Theodore you know St Paul what’s it going to look like and we just
Don’t know um where you at with Gulf Shores uh moving up to class 6A they were at class 6A I think they may they went they were up at 6A for a little bit I don’t think so no I thought no shorts was up at 6A and then went back down to
5A sure pretty sure let me check that for you real quick yeah no I even if they were I don’t think they did much no they didn’t but I was fixing a reference that they didn’t do much when they were up there for a little bit before they
Were five yeah no oh my goodness they were in 6A they just did nothing no they Smith was there when they were in six they went six and four that Hud’s first yeah cuz it was I remember being a big deal when they went down there wow okay
Yeah but no golf sh is what team team started in 2000 they up and down path they get husi in there struggled at 6A early on goes down to 5A tears it up tears it up well struggled one year tears it up the next year is 11 and

Throwing allegations out here I’m just kidding no I think um I think Golf Shores is uh going to struggle in 6A yeah and I could see them though definitely making the playoffs I could see them surprising as all I think they could very easily beat a Spanish Fort
Very easily not easily beat but have a chance against Spanish Fort St Paul’s Theodore I think the only team they don’t have a chance against is San I think San is still the pr team to beat right now in 6A going into year for me
And I just don’t see golfs doing it I could see him finish second in the region I could see him finishing fifth in the region yeah that’s good good point they’ve got a lot of talent coming back I just want to see how they adjust
From the 5A to 6A level and let’s be honest Ronnie Royal playing both sides would have flown in sixa it doesn’t work well for a lot of teams I mean look at jayman Bak we they had the load manage him they could he only in the state
Championship he only played DB on the last two plays and Ryan Williams was never intended for so he never really got to saw how tired he was or if that affected him right yeah no I agree I think yeah no 6A lot more players a lot
More depth um a lot more Talent um than what you had in 5A and yeah you know I think that you know Ramsey and 6A would be like a Spain Park um so obviously the bar is heightened um and Coach is going to have to do a really good job of um
You know really putting it all together and six move to region to where we had a few teams fluctuate one team from 5A one team from 7A Percy Julian who doesn’t have a head coach right now by the way moves down to 6A Region 2 from 7A Region
2 and Ria Beth who went six and four last season from 5A Region 2 moves up U I think this is a wide open region outside of Pike Road um I think Pike Road is going to win this region again they were undefeated last season um and
Made it pretty far in the playoffs you know lost to sand but you know so to everybody except clay um you know I think that the Challenger here is probably going to be Percy Julian um you know questions arise what rith can do they went six and four and 5A is that
Going to translate to 6A and outside of that I think the only other team that’s really going to have a good shot at it is watka who went five and six 4-2 in region was a first round playoff exit not much to speak of there but let’s
Talk about a region that has actually moved to the South this season and that is going to be 6A Region 3 the region that includes you know your Ben Russell Kera chill County helina pelum and two new 7A entrance Chelsea who went 2 and8 last season and 7A moves down back into
68 back into that region when you know chilon County and Kera and helina and Spain Park who was a blocked punt like two blocked punts away a block P away from a tough loss to their rivalry early on in the season eventually defined their season in 7A against Hoover gosh
Didn’t they have a better record than Hoover and still missed yeah they were seven and three Hoover was I believe four and six so were there three losses Thompson hu and Vestavia or Thompson Vestavia and Hoover mhm yeah that’s the only teams they lost to and they missed
The playoffs that’s that’s how important these region games are especially in 7A when there’s only 32 teams only 16 make the playoffs they’re going to have a much better shot and this is something that I’ve mentioned off podcast and something on Bama preps this Spain Park
Team has a real shot to make it to the state semifinals against a um against a pike road against a Sarah land um you know I think that the south is definitely going to be a little bit weaker in 6A this season um outside of you know sand but you know helina it’s
Going to be interesting to see how they bounce back no more Jordan Washington no more Joseph Roberto um they’re going to be losing some pieces on that defense and on that offense Ben Russell um I believe gay Benton is coming back but they’re going to be losing their star
Wide receiver who went to Auburn Malcolm Simmons um I do think they get some defensive pieces back though so I don’t think that Ben Russell will really lose too much of a step and then we just need to see what’s going to happen with shilton County and what’s going to HP
What’s going to happen with pelum pelum was an interesting team that we covered a few times last season and I think that they have a good chance to take the next step um but they’ll have to do it with a new quarterback and Coach vicory is
Going to have to do a good job of figuring things out there Al M Chelsea wow the insult there bud the insult they’re interchangeable they well I mean what are you thinking here coach RS moving into this region um a little bit north uh what what do you
Think comes out of Region Three do you think Spain Park runs a table or do you think it’s a Ben Russell or a Helena same park 100% will run the table I I no doubt in my mind they will they continue to do it the right way as coach wakaka
Says and the right way will lead them to a region Championship birth who knows what else to happen I think we need to save that but um no I think two through four in any of them could get it the only team to me right now that’s the
Biggest I guess kind of shock is the Chilton County team I don’t even I don’t think they have they named a head coach just yet I don’t think they’ve named a head coach replace I haven’t seen anything let me double check that for I don’t think Chon county has named a head
Coach replacement but clear they got RI in there early I think he’s going to hit the ground running with that program yeah so and Benjamin Russell they’re going to be there yeah they’ve built a good program good foundation there yeah you’re losing Malcolm Simmons but there’s a lot of talent over in that
Area right right Chelsea I want to see how they changed they struggled in 7A but they also struggled against the same 6A opponents I believe didn’t they lost to pel didn’t they I think so they beat a very bad clear team by like only two touchdowns when most teams were B 50
They got demolished by helina and so Chelsea just hasn’t fared well they didn’t far well they they did okay when they were in 6A I just we’ll see we’ll see what this region I think it’s topheavy with Spain Park and then everybody else is going to be kind of
Fighting for their spot yeah so let’s move to 6A Region 4 not really too much to mention here The Perennial Powerhouse of this region HR Tuscaloosa moves out nobody moves in um you know I think that it’s probably going to be hu Town winning the region um outside of that it
Is really a crap shoot um maybe maybe Central Tuscaloosa maybe madori maybe Northridge bounces back from a three and seven year but like you know I think honestly the more I’m looking at it now outside of maybe Brookwood from 2 to four I think besser City Huey toown
Mador Northridge Paul Bryant all have a chance to fight so let’s think last year it was Hill Crest Huey town besser city and magador right uh yeah gosh yeah we’ll see you know we’re not going to talk too much about region four is not too much to say with HR taloa moving out
But you expect hu town to come back and run the table there moving to region five now we get to the north side of 6A Gardendale Homewood Jo Miner Mortimer Jordan Parker and woodlon all in this region five and man you got to take a
Look at it here and say Hey you know what’s stopping Parker for running the table not only in region five but really in 68 north um no more Jeremiah Beaman that’s about it they are returning IIM offer they are returning Jordan and Crawford they were returning pieces on
Offense and you know new offensive coordinator um coach McGavin Conor McGavin who was a running back coach at Thompson last season moves in to be the OC um maybe he brings a little bit of that Mark Freeman Flair with him I don’t know we’ll see um but from everything I’ve seen expect
Naim offord to be involved in the offense maybe they’ll pop pass it to Jordan Crawford I don’t know but the defense we know is going to be the best of the best in 6A and we expect Parker to run this region outside of that you know Homewood who made the playoffs last
Season had a tough loss to Spanish fort in the first round um you expect them to be back Mortimer Jordan who had a really above average year going eight and three um you know I believe they get the running back back for Terrence gains Terrence gains I believe he’s back don’t
Call he is a dog man a really good we played him in an OTA his sophomore year really so you know we’re going to have to see what happens here um you know can a team like woodlon can a team like J get out the gutter Gardendale who made

Oxford is primed and ready to take this region um but I don’t think Klay chof was going to give it up without a fight and I think we could see some of those battles that we saw in the late 2000s that were so great when Oxford was a
State title contend team with Coach Ethridge and Coach Gilmer gosh wasn’t Oxford and Clay a dog fight this past year that was close it was it was close it was close but I I remember the back and forth game in 2019 I think it was back when Pinson Valley was good with
Coach Nicks um that’s what I want to see out of this region I think Mountain Brook will take a bit of a step back but I don’t think it’ll be shown on the record I still think Mountain Brook’s going to win the games they’re supposed to they don’t play the stav anymore
Which sucks but they will be getting new out of region teams to play you I think M Brook will be fine pel City who only won one game last season I believe they had a game forfeited so they’re really 2 and8 um you know we’ll see with pel city

The guy or the team here I should say Haro losing a head coach I believe they made an in-house hire for yeah was the DC they hired their DC um you know I don’t think a lot of heartzel kids are going to be moving down to uh opala but
You know what I know um so we’ll see we’ll see with Harel I think that they’re still going to be there they’re going to lose R Fletcher though keep their quarterback um but Fletcher who was a big part of their offense last season is going to be gone maybe a
Little bit of a step back you know do you see a team like Coleman or deor taking the next step wait see what region did Jasper come up into were they F they were 5A region five last season now they’re in seven they’re in region seven um now Coleman they they’re kind

Gadson City southside gadston who won did they win was it was a three-way Tire right Southside mood contest yeah and I think I think coach uh coach gayus won it right coach gayus coach coach gayus I think they should take the region title because they made it the farthest in the
Playoffs yeah it was a good point yeah but I mean CL CH won the region title two years ago and then lost in the first round are they really the region champ but they won the region champ they wasn’t a three-way tie for the region Champs Moody proved they were the best
Team in the region last year but region really interesting this season you know a team like Lee Huntsville or may emson you expect them to take a step up you know very interesting to see what Southside gadson’s going to do they’ll lose a bit of talent so does Gaton City
But they’re going to be returning the quarterback in a few Playmakers uh Fort Payne Dax Vador starting quarterback is going to be back there um honestly I don’t know I don’t know what’s going to come out of Region 8 um you know they had few teams with playoff success last
Season for Payne winning a game Gatson City winning two games and they had a chance to uh avenge a loss against Haro uh I’m sorry they had a chance to beat Hartzel again last season but lost in a close one in the third round of the
Playoffs so you look at gads and see this is a team that could have made the semi-finals last season um so I I don’t think this is as weak as 7A uh Region 4 which is the most North Region in 7A you know so we’re really
It’s it’s very much a wait and see type of thing I expect you know uh Southside Gaton struggled when they were in 6A before I think I think it’ll be the same story with them I think it’s going to be a really weaker region compared to last
Year last year they put up some great fights Athens took it to Oxford in a dog fight yeah Gaton made it all the way to the quarterfinals lost to Parker I believe so I it’s Gatson has a chance to repeat as region Champs and I think
They’re most likely to do it and I’d like to see what may Jimson does they have a lot of talent up there and they have a chance to shock some people got to put it together yep I agree let’s move to 5A would be a little bit quicker
Do you want to just highlight some big moves and like yeah top we won’t have to go through each so region one and 5A not much changes except for uml is out you know we’ll see what happens there cans right keep their playoff streak going can Viger make the
Playoffs Faith Academy is still here they get coach um Speakman yeah they get coach Speakman from oica so I think that’s a plus hire for them and then BC ra made the playoffs last season a lot of interesting stuff going on in five region one region two is where he gets
Fun because I think this is going to be one of the most competitive regions in 5A they get Catholic Montgomery and Andalusia both moving up who were two really good teams in 4A Region 2 last season you know and then there’s still Headland who made it three rounds into
The playoffs last season eala who made it four rounds into the playoffs did they make they made the sem last year they did yeah they did and and then you had Charles Henderson who two years ago was the state championship runner up um Zion but Zion gr gone yeah it’s still
You know very good team there um and then Carol who’s obv always a perennial team made the playoffs last season the only team that didn’t make the playoffs in 23 out of this new region two group is Greenville um so this is going to be in my opinion a very competitive region
Um I think this is one that Catholic Montgomery can win I think Andalusia is going to take a bit of a step back um they don’t have J and Bernett anymore their star running back he graduates and moves on so I think that coming out of
Here I I I maybe headin takes a bit of a step back I think they can compete for a region right now the top two dogs for me is eala and Kath Montgomery I think they are the two who are going to be competing for this region Championship
Who do you got coming out of region two I think it’s a Montgomery Catholic and eala battle Andalusia could maybe slurt in there they’re losing a lot of talent I believe the running back’s gone right one of them is gone Andalusia yeah the big Bern’s gone Brett’s gone they still
Have a lot of chance to replace them yeah based off what I’ve seen there were three dogs up there and they’re only losing one so they have a chance but you’re at 5A now it’s not really a running gun type system at the top so we’ll see what happens M gy Catholic
They definitely can do it again but it might be you follows region to lose yeah and I mean looking out of looking out at 5 a 5A South this season there a lot of room for movement upward um I think you follow they can make state championship
This season um you know I think Viger is going to compete and as will get to the other South teams let’s move to Region Three a lot of movement upward here from medling for a teams monal north side and sipy Valley all move up from 4A monal
From Region Three sipy valy from Region Three North Side from Region 5 and then there’s also Shelby County Selma gemson and perennial region Champs demopoulos I think Demopolis is going to run this region again it’s going to be interesting to see how monal transay didn’t make the playoffs last season but
They went seven and three had a pretty good team and outside of that you know this is like Shelby County High School made the playoffs out of this reg last season they were two and eight they also got 70 hung up with them yeah is this Bard’s
Region no I I think Bard is region four region four what world is this region I don’t know man yeah so I think theop is going to come out of here pretty easily and outside of that I don’t know because there’s only two other teams who had a
Winning record last season and they were two 48 teams with monal and simpy Valley moving to region four Bard is in this region Central Clay County Elmore County Holtville Marberry silaga and Valley you know you probably probably lean Bard here I think central Clay is going to
Take a step back um gosh they broke my heart dude they were your 5A pick man yeah well they’re a prominent 5A Powerhouse and then you right was like great and then they all s my DMs and saying God D like God that’s crazy that’s crazy yeah so coming out of here
I think Holtville has a chance for another good year same with Valley I thought Valley was a pretty good team last season they went four- one in region um but it’s going to be you know I think and also like I don’t think we should discount what Elm more County did
Last season eight and three um but let’s get down to the N degree every single team out of this region last season was a first round exit um do we see that again uh maybe maybe I think that the top of 5A South this year is not what
The top of 5A South was last year um and I think that a team like burgard Central clay you know Elmore County I think they have a chance to actually win a playoff game this year which more than they did last season let’s move up to 5A North
Now moving into region five this is where things get fun because you’ve got your state champion run Ramsey John Carroll Corner who moves up 4 a Carver Birmingham woa Hayden and briwood who moves into 5A region five they move up from 6A Region Three briwood want a playoff game last year
And then ran into sand but you know wi win right and brywood I think has a really good chance to compete against Ramsey this season they’re going to be returning a lot of talent to that Brierwood team and I think that this is a region that is very much up in the air
Uh you know it’s going to be interesting to see what corner does they won a playoff game last season in 4A um you know I think they’ll still be a good team John Carroll I think will be a good team but Ramsey briwood has to be the
Top two out of this group and who do you have coming out of region five to me it’s going to be a briwood I think they’re a great team they’re up Ramsey Ram’s losing a lot of talent cam Kean cam Kean look might be able to lead
Him but briarwood’s a great team team they’re well coached and that’s what led them to where they are right yeah and R don’t don’t throw any slight Ramsey’s a great coach team but I think briarwood’s coming down from 6A and they weren’t too bad at 6A they had
One down year yeah and when you’re running the clear Eagles I mean everybody has a down year but uh The Brood Lions I think can I think they can deth throw Ramsey honestly it’s a coin flip between those two foring see I don’t think it’s that close I I still
Think that Ramsey wins this region pretty handedly but I do think that this briwood team is going to come in second and I think that they can make some noise moving to region six Center Point moves down another really good team I was actually in Center Point yesterday

Center point in this region this is this is the region with Leeds Moody um uh Southside gadson’s gone but I think Center Point can replace them there and then Jacksonville who moves up from four a Jim ogul quarterback really good quarterback for them not there anymore
So um you know it’s going to be interesting to see what the quarterback play looks like for Jackson coming in the next season um in your opinion is is this Moody’s region to lose or the center point or leads Make Some Noise Moody’s a great team and from what I’ve
Seen they’re getting in some big time out of state transfers and they’re also getting some big time out ofate games well yeah gosh Gainesville yeah get I don’t think we can judge Moody off of their non- region schedule I think we’re going to judge them off their region
Schedule I think it’s going to be a great schedule I think Moody can pull it up I think Moody definitely is the front runner in this region Leeds is losing their best player in school history and case in Boston but maybe coach Hood can figure it out who coach hood No K who’s

Region that Russellville won last season they went six and0 in R region the only team that moves up is a 5- seven price bille team and you know really not as covered as some of the other places Lawrence County Fairview maybe can make some noise but we expect Russellville to
Come out of here again let’s move to Region 8 scotsboro who gets a new head coach uh Boaz Arab with two two other teams that made the playoffs you you get your Brewer Douglas Sardis in this region but Gunnersville who ran the table and made it to the uh second round
No they made it to the semis last season I believe yeah they made it to the semis lost to Ramsay um I think Gunnersville probably runs the table here again I think there’s going to be some flux with some of these other teams I think Boaz
Is going to have a better year than last season they upset Southside Gatson in the first round last season um but you know Arab you’re always going to have some good contenders there is there anything you want to add about Region 8 I’m good let’s move the region four then
Who which this it gets fun here scambia County Jackson Who uh has been a really really good team with um Landon Duckworth South Carolina commit they got a running back Xavier Carell who just got an Alabama offer um lot of front-end talent for this Jackson football team
But this region is going to be no slouch WS Neil moves up but that’s not the big one Mobile Christian moves up from 3A region one to 4A region one returning a ton of Talent Orange Beach is still here with coach waldrip and then outside of
That not much really to say here but in my opinion man I think that this Mobile Christian Jackson game is going to be quite a good one I’m sorry I forgot about gunar rivers and Philip Rivers and St Michael they’re also in this region
Who do you have coming out of 4 I region one I’m going with the Aggies man the talent there’s not hard I think don’t they open up their schedule with the Spartans next year I I think they do play sine yeah gosh man that’s going to be interesting I think they have a
Shot don’t give me the face you don’t believe it no no Jackson doesn’t have near the depth San has you have big Antonio Coleman up front I mean you have one of the best quarterbacks in the nation in the nation KJ Lacy horns down okay SCC Rivals now
Got to get them out of here come to Auburn KJ Lacy freeze warning on the planes don’t go play for a team that just hires their OC and only lets them stay for 30 days so that all the players don’t transfer out and then he leaves and goes be Bryant’s burner though would
Tell you different but no I don’t I think Jackson definitely has a chance to get back to 4A I mean they were heartbroken last year against BT Washington honestly shocked that they lost I did not expect after a week after dominating Andalusia I I thought they had a chance to beat
Mtgy Catholic they were number one in our BP power eight lead that week we lost to BT Washington so we’ll see what happens yeah yeah definitely um so I think Orange Beach maybe can make some noise here WS Neil is going to be interesting hopefully they keep the uh
Battle of murder Creek with their game against um I think they will that town might throw fit if that never happens that’s true yeah so we’ll see what comes out of region region two a lot of flux here a lot of 3A moving up op Pike County stra Dadeville and Ashford all
Moving up the only teams that are staying is Dale County and Jan Eva and stra who went 8 no region last season 10-2 overall made it into the second round of the playoffs you know op who had a bit of a Down year I think OBS
Going to be a pretty good team Pike County who I think will probably win this region I I’m really high on Pike County coming in next season um but honestly I don’t know you know maybe halltech knows something that I don’t um but I don’t know anything honestly about
For a region two Region Three it gets pretty fun because St James who won the uh 3A state two years ago moves up they get competitive balanced up into 4 a they lose KJ Jackson though so it’s going to be a tough ride for them BT Washington this year who still has not
Named a head coach um but yeah they had quite a run last season um so we’ll see what happens there Hanley always a good team um taly moves up moves down from fa they went one to nine last season you know so it’s very much a wait and see
What’s going to happen there ad of fear I want to pick BT Washington again but you know I I don’t want called last season a fluke run but it definitely wasn’t expected and I don’t know what the expectations going to be this season how they going to be to Washington
They’re going to be losing a bit of talent um I expect Hanley probably to run this region once again everything outside of that to me is just kind of me I guess that’s a way to put it you know Bullock County curn County mford Talladega who didn’t win a game last
Season so it it it’ll be tough um but we’ll just have to see who comes out of Region Three moving to region four a lot of change here as well Fairfield moves down from 5A region five so does Pleasant Grove who has a good chance to compete in 4A American chrisan and bib
County who had a really good run last season um coming out of here I mean bib County probably take a bit of a step back I think ACA will be a good team once again um and Pleasant Grove is really going to be the wild card for me
Here because they had the state’s leading receiver Clarence Clarence Thomas I believe his name was he Taylor I might be wrong I apologize but he comes back so I think PG has a really really really good chance to really run the table here in Region 4 um you know
Wait and see what Fairfield does Oak Grove was a pretty good team last season but yeah I think this is going to be very much a PG ACA battle for Region 4 let’s move to the north of 4A now in region five only one new team joins
Which is f County who moves on from 3A region five there went six and five last season with a first round ex the only team to win a playoff game out of region five last season was yville and honestly I think that’s going to say the same
Outside of maybe fendale who I think will have a good shot at um competing this season um fale a team I was pretty high on heading into the playoffs last season maybe uh on upset alert but outside of that you know Cordova and Curry have been rough I think Dora had a
Above average year last season other than that not much to say here out of region five let’s move to region six where Alexandria moves down from 5A region six and hoax Bluff moves up from 38 region 6 but outside of that you know I think this has been a you know a
Region dominated by Cherokee County who made the state championship last season they’re going to be losing Jacob corneo but that’s about it they get Tay Diamond Back might be getting quarterback back um I’d have to ask himl a game about that but outside of that you know maybe
An Aniston uh maybe Anana who loses fluff Bothwell who’s one of the greatest players in their school history um so I think region six is going to be another tossup for me right now if I had to pick I’d probably say Cherokee again I don’t think that they’re going to win their
Games um I don’t think they’ll win them as big as what they did before but I think this region definitely sets them up for Success once again we’re just going to have to see what Alexandria does they went one and nine last season but I don’t think that’s indicative of
What they are historically um Aniston you know always a pretty good team and outside of that you know Asheville Ed AWA and White Plains are very much still a toss up in terms of can they get back on their feet moving to region seven this was a region that uh I think went
Under the radar for a lot of people last season but there was a lot of good teams sitting in region 7 and they actually get Hatton who moves up from 2A so they’re going to make a two classification jump from 2A Region 8 to 4A region 7 Danville also moves up from
3A region 7 they went three and seven last season I think that Brooks who made it to the third round of the playoffs last year I think I’m not going to call it fluke run but I think that it was definitely above what the expectation was for Brooks do they get back there
You know it’s very wait and see Central Florence who went six and5 first round exit last season and we got to talk about Wes Morgan and desler Wes Morgan who made it to the second round of the playoffs I’m sorry third round of the playoffs last season went 7 and0 in
Region had a historic offense had a historic regular season but it all ended and then Deshler who’s always a good team went to the second round of the playoffs and honestly I expect more of the same I think West Morgan’s going to take a little bit of step back I think
Brooks is going to take a little bit of a step back but I see desler still running the table here here in region seven now Mason let’s look at Region 8 which you know out of Region 8 which is the north North you know you had your West Minister Christian and really that
Was about it you know Randolph who was a meddling team here and there North Jackson who was meddling but they get Madison Academy a team that we covered pretty in depth last season moving up into Region 8 um 14-1 you know obviously lost pretty bad in the state
Championship but you know make no uh calls about it it was a close game for a while there and Ma is going to have a lot of returning Talent back do you see West Minister Christian without Brandon mush who was their I don’t know if you can really quote a franchise quarterback
In high school but very much so he was there for five years as the starter you know losing him do you think that Madison Academy has a chance to run the table here in fora Region 8 moving up oh most definitely they’re they’re a great football team they have um they’re
Returning gosh what’s his name a AJ rice they’re returning him he’s a dynamic player they’re losing Ken Cherry one of the best backs we’ve ever seen in this state and they’re losing Jackson Reese they’re losing gosh I want to say po what’s his last name the quarterback they’re losing John they’re
Losing their quarterback and they’re losing a big O tack off Reese Baker but they’re going to retool they’re going to replay Cody Hughes is going to get those boys ready through their strength program shout out to him he’s making it talking to him and he told me they don’t
Do spring like they don’t do Pats for spring they just do training which is you know at a from a seven that’s kind of crazy to me because of how much they how much our coaches um sort of fluffed up not fluffed up it’s not a freaking propaganda campaign how much they you
Know made spring a big deal on that you know it was crazy to me to hear that like another school league just straight up didn’t do it well there’s a lot of options you can start a fall Camp earlier if you don’t do that’s right spring training so a lot of schools do
That and if I’m a smaller School what’s the point of go suting up and playing a spring game let’s be honest what you’re what are you gaining when you can just go walkthroughs and get plays going and then play a jamere game right before the season work out the Kinks in a first
Game that doesn’t count right so there’s a lot you can do but um I think Madison Academy can definitely pull it off out of this region especially with it being a weaker region overall this year yeah so we’ll move to 3A this is the last one we’re really going to talk about there’s
A lot of interesting stuff that has gone on in 3A and let’s start with region one Bayside Academy who moves all the way down from 4A such is TR Miller and moving up obviously out of this region the team who controlled it last season was Mobile Christian so there’s going to
Be some new faces and new room for opportunity and honestly Bayside Academy I think has a chance to win 3A and I think that coming out of um what was a really tough 4 a region one last season I think they definitely have a chance to
Run the table TR Miller as well but outside of that you know EXL flen Hillcrest Evergreen I think those are some teams that can um you know sort of challenge for that uh three to four playoff spot moving to region two you have slou moving down from Region 4 same
With Montgomery Academy and wicksburg moving up from 2A Region 2 um you know Houston Academy who is probably the best team out of this region last season um went 10- two second round playoff I’m sorry I didn’t even see Trinity yeah Trinity was a third round playoff exit
Last year um you know can Montgomery Academy can SL Make Some Noise here moving down you know we don’t know Prattville Christian who was a pretty solid team last season um I think region 2’s just got a lot of mess right now and we’ll just see how it has to play out
Through the season moving to Region Three um really not much of note here except thornsby moving up I think that they can definitely challenge Thomasville who I think was the greatest Foe for um Mobile Christian last season we’ve be in the region four this is where it gets interesting Mason because
You have um State title runner from two years ago semifinal runner up last season BB comr who moves up they went 13-1 last season into this region 4 who and this was a weak region I think Randolph County was really the only team that was good here in Region 4 but
They’re going to get two ASI schools move up Rivals between Glennwood and Lee Scott Academy um both of those schools um met in the Asia AAA State Championship last season and you know obviously as we talked about Coach Bobby Carr and Carver Montgomery we don’t know
What it’s going to look like but you know there’s definitely been models of success with ta with um was it’s tuscal academ yeah tuscalo Academy um there’s definitely models for success for Asi schools moving up but it’s very much a wait and see and I think it’s going to
Be really cool to um to really watch how they play a team like bb comr or a team like Randolph County not much of note in region six except for Locas Fork moving up who had a good season I still think this is very much going to be a you know
Pedmont JB Pennington I think Westbrook Christian under pedmont just had a down year though didn’t they yeah but you know Jonathan Smith ain’t going to be down for long especially the way he did at Sachs and Westbrook Christian which is where Steve Smith came he came from pedmont to Westbrook Christian they went
Five and five last season missed the playoffs if they can win some more region games um I think they’re going to have a good shot and we’re going to have to wait and see with Locas for D Dylan Embry returns I believe and it’s going to be really cool to see because they
Had a historic year in 2A moving to region 7 really not much to not here you know Lauderdale County Mars Hill were very much The Perennial powerhouses of this region last season excluding former Madison Academy which is for right now right I think yeah yeah come out of
Region s didn’t it yeah yeah I I I I mean did we really expect anything different Rogers moves down from 4A Sheffield moves up from 2A Rogers maybe uh went four- six last season and a pretty competitive 4A region 7 so we’ll have to wait and see and our final
Region eight this is gonna get fun because you’ve got Sylvania Geraldine and f f who has one in 3A like you know they they won um they’re going to be returning Logan Anderson they’re going to be returning another back number 22 whose name eludes me you know this is
What F does you know they’re going to have their Bell cow out of the single wing then they’re always going to have some eighth grader or freshman Phenom that’s going to lead the way for the next four years and um you know another team that moved out of that 2A region
Seven with f was Collinsville and white birg Christian um Collinsville probably the better of the two went eight and three last season first round exit um but it’s wide open it really is geraldine’s losing a lot Sylvania is losing a lot so I think it’s going to be
A pretty big mashup gosh was five five had a loss last year and wasn’t it till Sylvania or was it to Geraldine I believe it was to Gerald Geraldine and Gerald deine was so close to a state championship birth they just couldn’t stop Ken cherry and I think look f
Proven to come up from 2A before wi in 3A and I think they honestly will do it again yeah I think five is the favorite early on in 3A for me right now yeah no definitely so now we have I I think that sort of maybe dragged on a little bit um
Certainly a Yap Fest as the kids say but we will move on to um sort of a look back at our 2023 season previews and we’ll go over each team um sort of see how they did and that we’re going to start with Klay Chalkville Klay Chalkville last season in the season
Preview the only loss I had for them last season was Thompson their floor was I’m sorry their ceiling was 15 and0 we had their floor at 11 and3 with a loss here and there um they were supposed to play Central Phoenix City last season that didn’t end up materializing they
Only played nine regular season games and they won all of them um Jaylen aak who is an absolute Superstar for them uh you know Mario craer DJ Barber um just really really studs of that team and they went 15 and0 they met the ceiling moving on to huitt trusso who preseason
This was a team that I was not as high on um heu was sort of for me meddling um borderline mediocrity and you can’t really even call it mediocre you make it to the make it the playoffs every year make it to the second round the playoffs
Every year but to me looking at hu Trussell last season you look at Paul Tyson uh javarus Johnson da Worsham Malachi Moore you know just a plethora of talent that they had and the fact that they were losing to Thompson and Hoover last season this year they got
Over that hump um early loss to Central Phoenix lost to Thompson but outside of that they won all the other games they were supposed to and it ended up being a third round playoff exit and a really tough game against Thompson which I attended and I’ll tell you what hu was
At right there for the most part of the game pton Floyd was a guy who just gave you a chance and they had other really key stars like T aart rigs Dunn in the back end and Jaden loving who was a really good receiver for them they were
Also anchored by a really good offensive line we had their ceiling at 10-2 their floor at 7 and5 which was you know maybe a little Doomer but you know you can’t count out coach Floyd for that long 9 and4 last season pretty darn good it was their first third round playoff birth
Since 2008 it’s pretty impressive moving on to sarand and sarand was obviously a team that went 14-1 this season and we had had their ceiling at 15-0 we had their floor at 12-2 I think worst worst case scenario for San was a loss of lipsum Academy a loss somewhere in
Between somehow some way to a Spanish Fort well I I think that region we panned out to be a lot weaker than we thought we definitely thought Spanish Fort was going to be different we definitely thought Theo was going to be a lot stronger than they were but um
Sarin lived up to the expectations and definitely say the expectations are the same headed in the next year they were right there they were right there were one controversial play call away from dude I’ll never forget because when they took the timeout and walked off I
Took a photo of the score of the game and I said okay s going to feeli go tie it going overtime and let me tell you my shock when I see the offense jogging back on on the field man interesting yeah but we have their ceiling at 15
And0 they didn’t meet it but they were right there in the middle arguably they could have been there moving on to one of the more hyped teams of the offseason last last offseason I should say which is vavia and we had vavia record at 8-2 last year we had their ceiling at 13-2
We had this vavia team uh with a possibility of going to the state championship game and who knows you know who knows what could have happened there we had their floor at seven and five This was um you know a f a six Gap a six- win gap between their Flor and
Their ceiling it was very much uh you know who the heck knows um and I remember during my ride up is said to buy the hype or not to buy the hype that’s going to going to be the question for this 2023 vavia team I think they
Lived up to it I think that um they did they did everything they could I should say um coach Evans has absolutely turned them around heading into year three I think he’s going to have some challenges with replacing Jordan Ross replacing John Paul head he’s going to have to do
It but if anybody can it’s going to be that Rebel group um you know what a loss of Thompson we had we had him with a loss to Hoover they beat Hoover but then they ended up losing to um they got dominated by huitt yeah that was there
That was they got ran out of their own stum Floyd hit the shadur about 20 times 20 times well he hit it one last time against Thompson and that didn’t pan out too well for did it moving on to Central Phoenix City weather ceiling actually at
14 and one but that was only because we had projected lost either clay chville or a playoff loss we had their floor at 10 and two I think there was a lot of questions heading into the season on what the quarterback was going to look like they comeing off a pretty
Underwhelming year with Jaylen EPS at the helm um the offense maybe didn’t move the way they wanted it to and that showed in their semi-final playoff loss to Hoover I’m sorry to Auburn where they lost 14-13 and Auburn got dismantled by Thompson the State title that year um
But you know it was really interesting to see what was going to happen with um Central Phoenix City and they proved every by wrong undefeated state champions they beat Thompson they dethrown the Kings and they’re the new Kings of 7A so um they they exceeded the
Ceiling we had for them moving on to Thompson we had obviously their ceiling at 15-0 their floor at 12-3 in my opinion this was a Thompson team that was always going to reach a state championship no matter what happened in the regular season the only loss that we
Had for them in our schedule prediction was to IMG Academy a game that ended up not happening their loss actually came to Klay Chalkville during week five which man he talking about team of Destiny it was like CL Chate te it was just meant to be just how they won every
Game was just in dramatic fashion and it was just all one play away from it being a completely different outcome Miss field goal crazy play call gosh Mountain Brook Mountain Brook couldn’t convert like on 80 million attempts from inside their own 20 Oxford couldn’t convert against them I mean isn’t that crazy
That they were a Mountain Brook touchdown away from not cuz I mean say what you want about jayen bway is one of the greatest players he ain’t too talk right is he well how many years do too have over here te only had two two did he win Mr Football I don’t
Know I don’t think he won Mr royell won it was it Roy Dell would have been uh royell Williams 18 right 19 19 okay 19 because he was he was the Jason Jones class yeah yeah I got you yeah okay so moving on to what our next preview was
Which was Hoover um Hoover we had this team at 9 and one we had ceiling as a 14 Anda Champion um didn’t happen lost to Oak Grove barely beat Spain Park which we mentioned earlier lost to vavia Lost to hu lost to Mountain brg lost to Thompson and it was eventually a 40-7
Dismantling during the playoffs at the hands of at huitt Trussville this was obviously obviously under under performing um five- seven is what the record churned out to be we had their floor at 8 and4 I don’t think anybody could have fora what H foreseen what happened this year year um and honestly
I think we expected a loss to Hoover I’m sorry we expected a loss to Auburn but I think when the Oak Grove game happened and the close Spain Park game happened and we looked at their next three games against vavia Hugh at MRI we knew that
Ho wasn’t going to be in trouble they bounced back they won the region games they were supposed to against Oak Mountain T County and Chelsea but then the regular season loss the Thompson granted a close loss only 21 to 11 that’s that’s that’s they look say what
You will they they did what they had to do to stop Thompson’s offense and holding that Thompson team to 21 points is pretty impressive well the Thompson offense a lot late after that Hoover game it did kind of look a little weaker later on I mean the first first round
Not against Florence but second round game against vavia a little rocky but they’ve always looked Rocky against vavia for the last couple years and but I mean you had trussle the offense didn’t look too promising and against Central Fe he would have plenty of chances if Colin Landrew didn’t make
Some of the craziest catches I’ve ever seen in my life and High School football game they’re not in a situation to go down there and kick a game was it a game winning or game tying field goal it was going to be a game leading game leading
Field goal with not a lot of time left and then but Central another team at Destiny last year yeah so Hoover definitely underperformed next up was Theodore who was coming off what was a really good year they had a 10 and0 regular season last season um and then
Lost to Sarah land they beat Sahand last season or two seasons ago sorry in the regular season we had their ceiling at 14-1 we had their floor at 9 and4 um they didn’t meet that they lost some games that we didn’t think that they would um obviously lost the three to2
Watch it was just a brutal year but your transitioning to a new coach no offense this year yeah well they they didn’t really have an offense gosh I wouldn’t watched them play against sail in the semifinals and that would be 22 that was a brutal team to watch they had no
Offense they really relied on that defense it seems they relied on that defense last year and to compete at a 6A level you need some offense and you need some explosion yeah and definitely have Coach mask in your thoughts who’s the head coach at Theodore planning to coach
But he did just get diagnosed with cancer but hey he said he’s going to be there he said he promises those players he’ll be on those sideline every other Friday night that’s a coach you want and our last um schedule prediction was Auburn High School we had their record
At eight and two we actually had them losing to Hoover in the first round and we had them losing to Central Phoenix City and we had their schedule prediction 8-2 they’re Sealing at 14-1 and the floor at 9 and4 I think that Auburn did everything that they could
This season um well they lost their quarterback what game one yeah it was it was early in the season game two wasn’t it cuz they lost to Enterprise week two they did yeah that’s when yeah that’s when they lost your starting quarterback and they sort of had to move like Ian
Nation played a little bit of quarterback um number one you could just tell whoever gosh when we went to the central game the quarterback just wasn’t comfortable back there a lot of mishandling a lot of turnovers yeah what was the first play the Bobble snap yeah
And then gosh one time he just dropped the ball and Central picked it up and took it to the half a frustrating game to watch well Auburn was in it the whole time you could tell the defense was ready to play I mean cam Coleman y he
Went off but there was a lot of turnovers and really we always talked about it the game was close until Keith idge just did lost kind of faith in his offense there like I think his own third four when they punted when they punted around Midfield area where it was a
Questionable go for it or you’re going to lose the game and they lost the game yeah so I think I think Auburn just about met expectations last this season um we I don’t think anybody foresaw if Central Phoenix Buzz saw except for maybe the central Phoenix coaches and the players they believed sometimes
That’s all it takes hey when you got a guy like coach Nicks back there that wins wherever he goes it’s all it takes and they’re going to be a hard team to beat next year year yeah we’ve been going at this for an hour and 30 minutes
So we will wrap up the Pod here we’ll get into schedules in the next one um I think we hit a lot you know I think that there’s a lot of change you know this season and I think it’s going to be really fun to watch you know I think
We’ve been sort of in a lull for the past six to four years um it’s been a lot of the same and um with new contenders leaving players there’s a lot of chances for a lot of flux you know in high school football this year and something that we didn’t
Even talk about was the new legislation that’s getting put between before the Alabama house um um with nil becoming a major part of High School Athletics players being able to make their names off their likeness um right away right away um and you know as much as we’d love to um you
Know say how pure this game is and how pure High School athletics is it’s not the case it’s not the case there’s going to be always there’s always going to be talk of players moving you know what their motives are um you know what is the Bonafide move rule
Um and there’s been a lot of ambiguity um and there’s been a lot of um questions with the ahsaa and you know what what are the like what there’s not any clearly defined rules and I spoke to coaches this year and I spoke to coaches during the off season you know they
Don’t even know what they can do during the offseason training like they don’t know when they can throw they don’t know when they can hit they don’t know what they can put pads on um and and it’s stuff like that at the base level which I think has created a lot of um
Questioning High School off seon high school football in Alabama’s got to change and it’s got to change quick we’re a prominent State and I often often feel like just the top of the top they often restrict a lot of people from being able to succeed and as much as I
Want to say nil is going to get past N I don’t think it gets past the first go around really just because they the flaws it has at the college level I think they want to have a stricter hold on it than well I I think you know I
Think you raised an interesting point I think it will get passed um I think and I’ve spoken to a lot of people who think it will as well um obviously there’s going to be a lot of worry about it but I think that this is less of a uh we
Need to make sure this is well regulated um I think this is more of a we have to do this for our survival uh and you see it in high school basketball and sa them some of the top players in high school have left to go to preps where you get
Paid where where you can get paid to play instead of playing at your local high school um and I think that’s you know you don’t want to see high school football devolve into a bunch ofies and prep schools competing and obviously you know it’s very much a best on best
Talent but you know I think a lot of the alert for me when it comes to high school football is seeing you know these small towns and these small schools rally around their star player that comes once in every 30 years I mean let’s talk about Elba and Alvin
Henderson you know when I spoke to Alvin you know he says that hey I want to win a state championship at Elba I want to win you know rushing records at Elba you know it’s darrk kenry in Julie Florida it’s it’s the stories like that that um
