Have the same exact chance of winning the championship that the best team in the country has over the course of a lengthy regular season now there will be plans in place for that teams are going to get buys they’re going to get home games I get all of that they’re

Addressing it in college football and at the end of the day 12 14 even 16 isn’t an egregious number the 95th best team in America over the course of an entire season does not deserve a chance to play for the national championship they simply do not and it would to say that

It would diminish the regular it would cheapen the regular season to the point that it would cheapen isn’t even a strong enough word it would become so cheap it should have to pay you they should have to pay you to watch the games they would be so meaningless I would

Be disinterested to the point of um to to the nth degree if you were to expand this thing any farther if anything I would take it back to where it was at 64 I mean that was a perfectly valid diet tribe if you had made it in

1985 but the fact that we already have a 64 68 team field now means we’ve already jumped the shark like we’ve already rendered it a an exhibition for lack of a better term yes we absolutely we have 68 teams right now you’re telling me there’s a fundamental difference between

A 68 team field and my idea of a 112 team field oh you’re taking even more than 96 yes I’m going to tell you right now what the difference is because the field is filled out now by all of these automatic bids these automatic Conference champions so of those 68

Again I continue to say the number should be 64 but let’s just let’s live in the world in which we live today of those 68 something in the neighborhood of 40 of them earn their way into the tournament by means other than winning a conference Championship right how many conference

Automatic bids are there I can get that exact number so so it’s something like that the top 35 or so teams if you’re going to expand the tournament you’re not going to expand it to bring in more teams from the smaller conferences you’re going to expand it to bring in

Instead of the third and fourth best teams from the Big East the seventh and eighth best teams from the Big East the ninth and 10th best teams from the Big 10 the sixth and seventh best teams from the SEC those are the teams that don’t deserve it so the expansion of the

Tournament what makes the tournament glorious is the inclusion of these small schools the vermonts of the world and all of those who get their One Shining Moment and they get to play in a big game and every now and again win a big game but almost never are they to be

Taken seriously as contenders if you let let me just I’m just someone pull up the standings right now and tell me who the n best team is in the Big 10 right now who’s the ninth best team in the Big 10 just so you know there are 36 at larges

Every year 36 at large bids so that means there are 32 spots for other teams now that’s not really the way it works because a lot of those teams would earn their way in anyway teams that win their conferences and all of that so and what

Making a run there not only does the conference tournament champion get in but for the for the major conferences if you get to the conference if you get to a major Conference tournament final you get in so immediately there are 12 of those teams so immediately the conference Championship came as

Meaningless go ahead no it is not it is not meaningless at all the run to it is much more meaningful and winning it will help your seed or potentially get you a buy so this is what you have you have a first round greeny of 96 basketball teams you’re

Going to play 24 games on Tuesday and you’re going to play 24 games on Wednesday and you’ll watch them and they will be glorious and you know it even when it’s Iowa against fill in the blank eighth best team from the Big 12 and you’ll love it so they are going to be

24 games on Tuesday 24 games on Wednesday the round of 64 like it is now Thursday and Friday there will be 16 games on Thursday and 16 games on Friday because in the first round in my format here all right you’re going from 48 to

16 you’re adding the 48 there to the 16 buys and so we create a 64 team field that starts on Thursday just like we know and love and we have two days that lead up so that in the end we get 96 games in six days and we don’t water

Anything down we just wind up getting way more games that you will watch and that will generate money for the NC to well so so the the water in down part would come on that that first Tuesday and Wednesday that those would become NCAA tournament games but no top 16 will

Be subjected to it I understand that is there so I have I mean I have a million questions what I admire about you is that you have given this a lot of thought it’s pretty good right it it’s it isn’t as bad as I expected it to be

Be very very similar to how they do it now I’m just adding a layer of first round games to generate a lot more interest on that Tuesday or Wednesday protecting the top 16 teams in America and making the tournament pop for an entire week because look you can’t

Colorado who was for most of last year the number one receiver in the nation so as you you bring this roster together and you’re about to get going with with Spring ball there’s been a little bit of adjustment but from a roster perspective what are you most excited about right

Now well the a few things and and one you hit the nail on the head you know in in today’s college football um you gotta pay him at the beginning or you gotta pay him at the end and you know you gotta pay transfers uh to to get them or

It you don’t pay them you know how it works right there there’s got to be something for them uh to want to come to your place or when you recruit freshmen uh you develop them into great players like lante you you’ve got to be able to

To match uh when when those big schools come falling and this is something nobody signed up for but it is reality and so we have taken the approach you know we signed 17 high school kids in this class that was second most in our entire conference and um you know we

Feel like with the quality of high school kid that we can recruit here in the State of Florida um and with our development our ability to build relationships and then hopefully in a couple years we we have this thing um funded to the point where when those big

Schools do come calling we we’ll be able to um much like basketball was able to you know be able to save off some of the vultures and and um and keep some of our great players so I’m excited about the Freshman but uh we’ve got 34 newcomers in January we’ll probably have another

15 um in May so get used to it fans our roster is going to turn over close to 50% pretty much every year um but some of these transfers especially at quarterback cam fer excited to see him battle Tyreek Starks and you know it’s a guy that’s started

And won a bunch of games for for Marshall over the last two years so um I’m just excited I think not to rant here but you talked about the portal too the one probably the only positive thing about the portal is in our first team meeting 10 this January I looked out at

The team and I said you know you guys could have gone anywhere and I was talking to the the guys that were here last year you’ve been around us for a year and you could have gone anywhere other than FAU and you chose to come back and guess what we could have cut

Been at the highest levels of the sport you’re trying to bring fa to the highest levels of the sport there is this new college football model we’re expanding it we’re going to have uh seven uh we’re going to have the the the seven Champions we’re going to have uh or six

Champions I’m sorry we’re going to have the seven out larges I I just find that all of this is still working against the the mid majors and it drives me crazy the group of five teams that everything’s so overloaded towards these major conferences the makeup of college football right now

Coach what do you just what do you make of this even with the expanded playoff well I I think you’re right um when you when you talk about the group of five as a whole um you’re right and they’re in inclusion in anything meaningful in the postseason is pretty prohibitive

Except for the American Conference um you know I I I know when I was at Houston um we won the conference and we went to New Year 6 and I I think something like eight out of the last 10 years the highest ranked group of five team was the American Conference

Champion and I would argue that last year SMU probably should have um went to the the new year six game uh instead of the the representative that did so um if you win the American you’re probably go into the playoffs Ken and and I know you can say that about the big boy

Conferences and so but in all reality what are there four or five teams in the Big 10 that that can win the thing every year you know and where in the American you got about 10 that that have a legitimate shot and we’re one of them and so if we take care of

Business we win the conference we’re we’re pretty confident that that we’ll go to the playoffs you’re right in that discussion uh one other point of emphases here we’ve had a lot of discussion after Caitlyn Clark uh hit the deck and after Kyle filipowski of Duke hit the deck the subject of Court
