Was this lawn running at about 7 seconds? Rich wasn't able to hit a ball the length of the court, twice.
While watching the break play here keep in mind that the court is far narrower than a regulation court, which significantly changes the croquet shots needed to send out pioneers. You'll see the impact of that especially after hoop 6. Between the narrow full-length court setup and the extremely slow lawn, there's a lot to adapt to if you are used to normal croquet playing conditions.
