What is up YouTube welcome in to another edition of Trey and BK live on Texas Sports unfiltered and on the free Texas Sports unfiltered app it is Friday February 23rd 20 and 24 hope everyone is having a fantastic Friday and train are with you until 1 o’clock of course chip
And Z coming up from 1 to 3 and then Longhorn missfits with Trey and Jeff Barker we’ll round out the week of programming right here on Texas Sports unfiltered we’ve got plenty to get into some Texas football to talk about some Texas Kansas basketball to preview little NFL draft conversation of course
Where are we at in society we’ll wrap up the hour like it always does right here on Trey and BK what’s going on brother not a lot how are you today I’m good it’s Friday it’s been a long week and that feels weird to say considering the
Fact that it was a short week with us taking Monday off for # noty President’s Day but uh happy that it’s Friday it’s gorgeous out should be beautiful all weekend long so I can’t complain what’s new with you oh just been running around today
And it is going to be a busy weekend for us too I think I’m going to try and squeeze some volleyball in tomorrow we’re going to go see believe it or not going to go see the Austin FC season opener tomorrow with the family the kids are big soccer fans so even though
That’s not necessarily my thing I want to try and treat them when possible and so we did find some moderately priced tickets for tomorrow season opener wow there’s a chance that I am in the building with you at Q2 Stadium tomorrow and that’s the least likely thing to
Ever happen you talk about a sign of the Apocalypse yeah you and I both attending a soccer game at the same place at the same time that is Miracle stuff right there yeah you’re going to be in one of those highroll sweets though aren’t you
No I don’t think I’ll be at the suite tomorrow oh wow okay I think I just got invited to sit amongst the peasants at this match tomorrow so I don’t normally like sitting in the end zone to watch a football game especially if we’re lower
But I got seats and this is part of the reason why they were a little bit cheaper probably seats pretty close to the field behind one of the goals and it’s not behind the goal where you have to stand and make a lot of obnoxious noise the entire time it’s the other end
Of the stadium but’ll I’ll be curious to get my kids input on if they enjoy the game more or less from that Vantage Point versus where we typically sit which is hopefully somewhere equating it to a football field somewhere within the 20s a decent ways up so you can actually
See everything happening on the field wow where you typically sit so you’ve been to a few of these games only been to one other game it was one of their few wins last year when they beat the Toronto team in an extra time goal it was a z00 affair through 90
Minutes oh so exciting there were several almost opportunities to score goals but then it actually did get pretty routy because they scored a goal in extra time yeah and that was the deal stealer I feel like they blew the whistle to end the game as soon as the
Toronto team kicked off after that so that was a pretty crazy moment and became worth it specifically for that but God I don’t want to see another z00 game can we get like a five to Four game tomorrow or something please I’ll sign up for that yeah I think the rafts were
Tired too they were like thank God somebody scored now we can go home and they just decided to call the match at that game you were at last year and I don’t blame them for that yep should be fun hopefully Austin FC is good this year they were not very good last year
They missed the playoffs after being one of the best teams in the league two seasons ago so hopefully they can bounce back and have a really really good year games are pretty fun I mean you and I are not soccer die hard so we don’t really find much beauty or entertainment
In a nil nil game but the atmosphere at Q2 is great it’s been great since day one I assume it’s going to continue to be great even though the team was not that great last year uh but uh yeah we might both be out there at Q2 Stadium
Tomorrow God bless and then we have basketball games on Sunday we actually have soccer games tomorrow too but basketball games on Sunday that includes an end ofe tournament so I’ll be doing some coaching on the sidelines at a Cedar Park area school where one of my kids plays hair of the
Dog is texted in saying you got cheap seats because Austin FC sucks balls predicted to finish last place this year having said that I’ll be in the sweets corporate life sucks am I right thanks for the invite here of the dog no kidding that would have been nice
For sure can ask what you paid for your ticket like buy the ticket oh gosh I feel like it was 70 bucks a ticket I can check that real quick doesn’t feel that cheap to me well it’s cheap as compared to everything else and I did want to try and get them
They don’t have a left field area where you can just go watch the game right outside the stadium for free like you can with Texas baseball they might they probably do they’ve really ramped everything up this year too as a matter of fact they have that new train stop
That’s opening so we’re going to take the train from the lak line stop all the way down to the I don’t know if they call it the Michaela place or the Austin FC stop and so that will be cool to get to experience and they’ve got a bunch of
New food trucks out there this year and I’m sure a bunch of other Shenanigans for people to get engaged in as part of that game day experience we have a train yeah oh does Austin have a train yes Cap Metro it’s a waste of money that we are
Finally going to get to use for the first time as a family because for a while they didn’t even run the Train on weekends it’s it takes a very Arcane route to get to downtown starts in a Leander by the time the train gets to Cedar Park and Leander there’s nobody on
The train anymore in the afternoons and there’s very few people riding it into town in the mornings supposedly it does get filled up by the time it gets to downtown but yes it is a very poorly thought out design and I guess it has a little bit more use now because it can
Help people get to and from those games and not have to worry about paying 20 plus dollars for parking yeah I didn’t even know this existed this is uh breaking news to me right here you’re not talking about the bus like this is an actual train on its own
Rail yeah wow cap cap Metro do you do you really not know that Austin had I mean it’s had a train system I want to say for like 10 plus years I mean I see like in some areas near downtown there’s like the light rail looking thing almost
Like the dart in Dallas but I never see any body on that and I don’t know where it goes I just feel like it’s there to piss people off and cause people to have to stop at railroad crossings downtown when they’re in their cars oh every time
It stops me when I’m going down Palmer one way or the other and I get stopped by that stupid train I count the lack of people in the train and I’m like what the [ __ ] are we doing here goes all the way there the same one I see goes all the way to
Palmer uh I mean it crosses Palmer yeah going into Cedar Park and all the way I mean it goes up to Leander they had Grand Ambitions for this train and it just it’s not very convenient like I guess it’s a better option in terms of getting you into
Downtown quicker than if you’re starting in Leander in the middle of rush hour but it also drops you off on the edge of downtown too it drops people off right where the Hilton Hotel is next to I35 so if you’re working on the other side of downtown from that little part which is
More of a touristy part than a uh a commercial business area of downtown you’ve got a decent walk in front of you or you’re gonna have to get an Uber to get over there that could be a future bet payoff for this show do you just
Have to spend a day or at least a couple of hours like riding the entirety of the Cap Metro train line borderline as bad as the Greyhound to El Paso no it’s actually not that bad Greyhound to El Paso was much worse I feel a little better about the clientele
On the Cap Metro here than I did about the folks that I got to experience that Greyhound trip with I mean who knows maybe there is a little bit of a New York City subway element on Cap Metro since nobody else is on there so you just have hobos smoking crack and doing
All sorts of other crazy [ __ ] and scaring passengers in the meantime I bet I could get away with smoking crack on this train that you’re talking about probably and just no one would know and no one would give me in trouble like no problem there’s not enough people on
This thing to where anybody would care right so you can just get away with whatever you want there’s no mile high club version of a train is there uh according to the movie risky business there is haven’t seen it but very intrigued now look if you’re on an
Empty train late at night assuming you’re not going to get stabbed then yeah it’s anything goes right if you and your lady are just traveling on the train by yourselves and uh she’s wearing something that provides easier access perhaps a nice sundress in the spring or summer or fall and y’all are drunk
Enough that you’re going to risk somebody walking up on you then by all means give it a go yeah I’m trying to recreate this picture right here you remember this from a few years ago at the Oakland Coliseum oh yeah no nobody ever goes to Athletics games and of course there’s
Always somebody watching you know you think you’re alone because there’s nobody in your section and nobody within 30 sections of your section you think you’re fine you think you could just make a little love on a beautiful Sunday afternoon in Oakland California but of course there’s got to be the jackass
Who’s gotta put your [ __ ] on the internet and ruin your life yeah there was a similar situation I want to say it like a Blue Jays game or something a few years prior to that too yeah if you look if you’re G to get it on in a stadium
That is housing a professional sport then there’s a good chance somebody’s going to be videoing you doing so you’re right grant the CTA is well worth it to get around Chicago train systems that work are valuable train systems that don’t are just a colossal waste of time
And money it’s why it was amusing that just six months into covid the City of Austin the voters of Austin I should say voted on some eight billion public transportation package that the costs have already ballooned just a few years later of of course and they’ve also scrapped some of the most important
Elements of that like I would argue that a train from the city’s main airport into downtown is one of the most important veins like for me in Chicago the train that I rode the most was the blue line from our neighborhood in Wicker Park all the way up to O’Hare it made the
O’hare’s experience significantly easier but Austin has already cancelled the plan train line from Bergstrom into downtown now now the good news is that they’ve also apparently rerouted or canceled the train that was going to uh that was going to run through where dirty is right now dirty Martins is one
Of the best burgers in Chicago yeah that was going to have to go away they were going to cite imminent domain and take that but it’s so far over budget now that who knows when this thing actually gets going but they’ve already had to reconsider certain things that were on
The original agenda one good one bad cancel culture add it again man that’s what it does all right random conversation to start things off on a Friday I regret to inform you people we actually did talk before the show which means we have a little bit of structure
On today’s program but of course we’ll have some fun like we always do uh Trey I want to ask you this question uh it’s about Steve sarkeesian and his contract extension we’ve talked about that a lot this week because during last weekend we found out the details of sark’s new deal
Here in Austin I just thought of this in between the morning show in this show what’s more likely to happen is it more likely that Steve sarkeesian gets another contract after this new one that is set to end in 2030 or is it more likely that Steve sarkeesian gets fired before this
Current contract ends in 2030 now this is obviously a sheer test of your confidence in the head coach but with what you know about sarc with what you know about Texas with the impending move to the SEC obviously our texter and YouTube commenters can weigh in on this
As well I want to hear from everybody what is more likely to happen Steve sarkeesian gets another contract at Texas or he gets fired before his current contract ends well that’s a tough one because you’re talking about six years 25 26 27 28 29 yeah six years most coaches don’t make it six
Years with a given organization much less adding the first three years to sark’s deal so that would mean Sark being here for nearly a decade I hope that happens the numbers tell you that it’s more likely that he gets fired versus getting another contract but I’m goingon to show some confidence here BK
I think he does end up making it to the end of that deal or maybe not to the end of that deal because it gets extended and so the deal goes beyond 2030 okay so I think it’s I think it’s said more years right I don’t think you included
2024 in your account I did not say 24 you’re right I said I started with 25 so yeah seven more years so he’s already been here three so that would be yeah a full decade if Sark makes it through this new contract then he will have been
Here for 10 full seasons in Austin so we’re banking on him making it into decade number two and that’s your answer man I feel like this goes against just about everything I’ve said this week but I think my utsd is kicking in I’m I’m going to say it’s more likely
That he doesn’t make it ouch I know I know and I feel great about Sark and I loved what he did last year and I think the expectations that are being thrown upon this football program right now are warranted and Texas should be a preseason top five team next year and
They should be expected to compete for a conference Championship in their first year in the hardest conference in the sport but my utsd is just telling me that something is going to go wrong and and because of the Year Sark just had he is now going to be a victim of his own
Success right I mean the good news for him is he’s had linear progression Tom Herman didn’t have that he became a victim of his success almost a little bit too early because the second year was really good and then third year was a step back and then people are like oh
[ __ ] so I’m worried that because Sark had such a good year three and I’d rather it be this way than the way Tom Herman kind of had his first three seasons now it’s like oh people know what he’s capable of and people now are going to expect him to do something very
Close to that every single year and if there’s a twoyear in a row stretch it’s not going to take one bad year for Sark to lose his job at this point but if there’s there’s two years in a row where Texas is nine and three and they’re like
Finishing 13th or 14th when 12 teams are getting into the playoff or 15th if 14 teams are getting into the playoff who knows what the hell that’s going to look like down the road then I think Texas fans are going to be impatient and it’s not going to be like last decade where
You would have killed for a year like that it’s going to be like no like we know we should be better than that so I’m gonna I’m gonna say that I’m gonna go glass half empty here and I almost think the Vegas favorite should be what I’m picking and not what you’re
Picking look it’s hard to argue that like I said the numbers tend to speak to guys not lasting for a full decade at a job very few guys guys do so and if a guy does consider yourself lucky now CB did just point out it’s a great
Observation CB Mack was at Texas 16 years and didn’t win a championship until year eight so making it to the playoff is going to matter but it will get to a point too if Sark isn’t getting this team to the final four or to that very last game of the season then
Questions are going to be asked much like we’ve heard Cowboys fans asking with Mike McCarthy over the last few years now yeah it’s great that you’re having these awesome regular seasons that you’re winning division crowns but you’re not even making it past the Wild Card round a lot of these
Years or the divisional round at the very best it’s been decades since this team has made an NFC Championship game and you have to go back to when you were born or I guess the year after you were born when this team played for a Super
Bowl so uh that same thing could burden Sark but I feel like like he’s going to get the talent to a level to go along with a sort of security in his coaching ranks that they will win those big-time matchups in January yeah I hope you’re right I think
That goes without saying I hope Sark is here for a long long time and to add some evidence to your point about you don’t see coaches stick around for decade Plus at their stops I just pulled up an article this is from January 4th of this
Year so I’m trying to see if Nick Savin is on this list so Nick Savin is on this list so I guess this is right before he decided to call it quits because I feel like it was the week after where he announced his retirement and I’m I’m
Seeing 15 coaches so we’ll take out Nick Sabin 14 coaches who will be 10 years or more at their current job starting in 2024 the current longest 10e coach in college football care to take a guess on who that is Trey well I I just cheated I’m looking it’s Kirk fren despite the
Fact that he probably should have been fired several years ago yeah that’s one of those like the grass isn’t always greener situations because ference is the best coach they’ve ever had and it’s like yeah he’s not very good but he kind of has us relevant every few years and
If we get rid of him are we going to be worse than we are now I think it’s a lot of fear that Iowa has and that’s why they haven’t let him stick around yeah we’re talking about 14 coaches AC Ross the country there’s like 130 division
One FBS college football teams and it’s less than 15 that have had their coaches stick around for at least 10 years and a lot of the coaches on this list are you know Army Miami of Ohio Eastern Michigan yeah s Sam Houston State like places where the expectations are not
Nearly as high as they are at a place like the University of Texas now look M was here for more than a decade like if you do things right we’re going to keep you around it’s as simple as that so if Sark does things right yeah he will have
His name on this list in five six seven years I guess it’d be seven years because that would make it 10 for him we just talked about that BK um so it’s possible but it’s a low percentage of coaches especially at blue blood type of programs that uh that get the luxury of
Being able to stick around for that lengthy of a Time yeah this is pretty amusing list to look at here you have Mike Gundy and Kyle Whittingham as the second longest tenard coaches in college football right now couple of Big 12 Legends both are good coaches yeah woodingham I’d probably
Give a little bit more Credence to than Mike Gundy just based on big game abilities but it’s a mixed bag of guys at programs that just don’t have high standards and then the occasional Dabo Sweeney where it’s like he probably gets to decide when he chooses to leave
Clemson although don’t have too many of too many more of the years like what you’ve done for the last few years Dabo or that could change pretty quickly there yeah but yeah I guess this does as you said God James Franklin is on that list he been there
For a decade I was gonna say you look at some of these names and like some of these fan bases are ready to move on like I was ready to move on from ference uh there were some Oklahoma State fans before last season who were ready to
Move on from Gundy I think he bought himself at least a little bit of time because he beat OU and made it to the Big 12 title game but yeah I mean talk about Mac Brown dbos Sweeney is like ma brown right now I mean Dabo obviously
Won two Mack unfortunately was only able to win one but sort of feels like the clock is ticking and people are asking whether or not he should stick around there for much longer James Franklin I mean Penn State fans are fed up with that guy right now yeah uh Mark Stoops
At kuy’s on this list he tried to leave he had the A&M job for a half an hour and thenm pull the plug on that deal so he didn’t get it so oh is that right I never heard that yeah you don’t remember the tweets that said Mark stops had
Accepted the job at A&M like apparently blacked out that day because I don’t remember that yeah no that’s that’s why Ross Bor the ad left to take the job at Ohio State I mean he might have done that anyways but no Mark stops was uh bork’s Choice and then like John Sharp
Who’s the chancellor of the A&M system step in and said yeah we’re not doing that I think he might have seen the instant social media reaction because there was that first tweet that went out that said Stoops is like about to be the next head coach in Agy land and then A&M
Fans were like f that and college football fans were kind of laughing at them like really like you just paid this ginormous buyout to Jimbo and you’re gonna hire like this sto’s brother not B this one and well it’s not Mike at least I guess I mean he’s been decent at
Kentucky which is speaking of programs with no expectations yeah I mean he’s he’s the longest tene head coach and winningest head coach in Kentucky history so he’s done some good things there but yeah he was he was trying to leave I don’t know if Kentucky was ready
To fire him they obviously kept him even after the flirtation with the Aggies but um yeah that’s that’s where we’re at right now so that was an awkward next day in Lexington I bet it was probably a weird couple of weeks for Ross bork in college before he found a
Very soft landing spot you might have left he might have gotten fired or something the way that thing went down but he was able to somehow get that Ohio State ad job that’s worked out well for him so anyways that was my thought I might ask Bucky that question on Monday
I think it’s a fair question for any Longhorn fan right like how what’s more likely to happen Sark gets another new contract at Texas that keeps him here Beyond 2030 or he doesn’t even make it to the end of this current deal all right let’s uh before we shift gears and
Get into some Texas basketball huge game for the Longhorns tomorrow in Lawrence uh Trey I’ll give you the floor first how about a shout out to our friends over at big hat yes bigat Spirits big hatp spirits.com and bigat Spirits is redefining that cocktail in a can

And then go watch the Austin FC after that that’s two slow moving sports there yeah that’s a that’s a long day right there um and look I I would have gone with him love Tom love Texas baseball love going to those games I’d legitimately have another conflict
Something that I committed to a while ago but yeah he uh he called me out for saying no to him very quickly and then he says I’m the one who watches that girly basketball [ __ ] and he’s right basketball I do watch some women’s basketball but Tom’s not a basketball
Fan men’s women’s college NBA it does not matter so i s decide with him I know I know indeed all right before we get to that girly basketball [ __ ] uh a couple of comments sarire next year and they bring back the buck now that’d be a dis
You imagine Bucky really in any era of college football but especially in this era being the head coach the University of Texas what a disaster that would not end well for that program no or for him I think no it’ be terrible for him Jason says I
Think Steve gets the extension on his contract three years from now there you go I mean that’s the ultimate glass half full right there as he gets an extension before his current deal even comes close to ending that’ll happen if SAR wins a national championship next year he’ll
Get a new contract even though he’ll be like one year in to the deal he just signed if he goes out and wins annati they will make him the highest paid coach in the sport even though Kirby’s got two even though dabo’s got two those
Are the two guys ahead of him right now Sark wins it in 2025 he will be number one on that list you’re probably right but I I I don’t think that’s necessary either no is it necessary for me to drink my own urine yes oh sterile after all no but it’s
Sterile and I like the taste glad you got that reference uh okay and a quick text on the code of text line 51222 29328 going back to the Cap Metro that we talked about earlier today 737 number says every time I’ve taken the cat Metro I’ve taken a beer on the train no
Problem there you go smok and crack on the train probably not that big of an issue yeah those are about the same things all right Texas basketball Trey they’ve got an opportunity to pick up their biggest win of the season tomorrow they’ve had a few of those opportunities
Against Houston in the last few weeks unfortunately they went 0 and two against Houston one of those games was close the game last weekend on the road uh far from close but the Longhorns on the road taking on Ninth rank Kansas tomorrow a five o’clock tip on ESPN so
No uh LG you’re going to have to worry about on the broadcasting team uh Kansas is 13-0 at home that’s the bad news Trey but Texas has won five of its last seven games against Kansas and Kansas this Kansas team is very flawed once again they they have
Not been flawed enough to lose a game in Allen field house which continues to be one of the toughest venues in the sport but this is not your older brothers Jayhawks like this is not a national championship contending Kansas team they’re not going to win the Big 12
Which is crazy talk considering how much they’ve won in the last I don’t know two decades so an opportunity for Texas it won’t be easy they’re going to be underdogs but man they they can get this Kansas team and if they do so they probably cement themselves in the NCAA tournament field
To 68 so the first question I guess for how Texas matches up with this Kansas team BK and you know because you watch both of these teams closely you’re a fan of both of these teams is how does Texas defend Hunter the center yeah Hunter the center yeah that’s his
Last name actually it says the center on the back of his jersey um I’m curious to see how that works like it’s probably doing the Sue on Hunter Dickinson because Dickinson is a guy who can shoot the three like he can stretch the floor as a big and D Su
Obviously does that on offense but he’s quick and agile enough defensively to where he can do the same thing now the risky run with that is and the Sue gets in foul trouble by trying to guard Hunter Dickinson and then you know if the Sue picks up two quick fouls
Tomorrow and he’s got to ride the pine for a large portion of the first half that’s how this game gets out of hand this Kansas team isn’t capable of doing what Houston did to Texas last week they’re they’re just not that good but that’s how CA Kansas gets a double digit
Lead and Texas is playing catchup all day long so I think to sue is the best matchup for Hunter Dickinson but I wouldn’t be surprised if you know maybe Dylan Mitchell get some run because he’s obviously tall and long enough to stay with him and he’s athletic enough to
Stay with him as well uh when Kaden shedric is in I mean he comes off the bench he’ll get you 10 to 20 minutes in this game tomorrow if he’s playing well he’s the guy who’s got some size too and he’s a pretty strong Defender so he
Might get some run there but yeah that’s that’s a big question I think the Sue is the best matchup but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s the other Dylan because he’s just not as important to Texas’s success as Dylan the Su is and you can’t risk that guy picking up some
Early fouls you probably see both guys going at him at times just to give some different looks and both are really good laterally and both have great athleticism too hopefully I I want to or I should say I hope it is Dylan Mitchell a little bit more than du Su just to
Preserve du Su a little bit on offense because obviously regardless of what du does offensively you’re going to need to get more consistent scoring out of an aess or a hunter or uh some combination of those guys and maybe somebody else as well but they’re going to need the Su
Scoring prowess uh to be effective tomorrow to have a chance to win this game so you don’t want to drain him on the defensive end which is what would happen if he’s on Dickinson too much yeah and that’s like I think I would start the game with the Su on Dickinson
And as soon as he picks up the first foul I’m making the change yeah like if first foul happens with like six minutes and a half that’s fine but if the Sue picks up a foul in the first five minutes guarding Hunter Dickinson then it’s like okay we’re we’re we’re
Switching this up we’re going to put him on KJ Adams or somebody else Austin’s own KJ Adams by the way and just saying hey like yeah we we cannot risk uh you sitting on the bench for a large part of this first half and then I I’ll answer
The other question I don’t know if you were going to ask this but I mean Kansas they’ve got two great players Johnny Fury the Australian freshman I don’t know how good his English is we probably couldn’t have him on this show because of the language barrier that exists between Australia and America don’t
Forget that uh that guy’s a problem but Kevin mcculler Jr is you know first team all Pig 12 caliber player I I think Kendall Weaver is the guy for that matchup and with what Kendall Weaver has done as an on ball Defender uh since really being inserted into the starting
Lineup a few weeks ago he’s been very very good so he’s a pest he gets in your face he’s quick enough I think to hang with mcculler he’s got the length to make life relatively tough on him I think you’ve got a pretty good matchup for the other great player on this
Kansas team so that’s I think Weaver he might not score a lot tomorrow and he’s not known for being a huge threat on offense but he he could be one of the most important if not the most important players for this Texas team tomorrow afternoon I’m not holding my breath on
Texas winning this game tomorrow yeah they’ve been pretty good in this series in the last few years and they’ve been a decent team on the road in conference play this year but we haven’t seen them go up against many truly good teams this season neutral Cider on the road a few
Examples we do have though Texas tends to get run out of the building Yukon earlier this season Marquette Houston last weekend and I think we see something similar against Kansas tomorrow yeah that’s fair that’s fair I mean most of Texas’s best opponents have beaten this team pretty good obviously
They took Houston to overtime in one of those two matchups uh but that was a game in Austin we saw what happened on the road and that was a game that they all were also getting worked before they uh really got their [ __ ] together in the
Second half too yeah yeah that’s fair so they’ve got the nice win over Baylor that’s probably the best win on the year to this point the the blowout victory at Oklahoma was pretty impressive too and you always enjoy beating Oklahoma like that uh but yeah tomorrow would be their
Biggest win and kenpom has this as a Sixpoint loss my guess is the Vegas line will be around seven or eight in favor of Kansas so you know it was 10 a half last week at Houston Texas didn’t even come close to covering let alone winning
I think Texas can cover I really do but betting against Kansas in their building is uh is always scary and look I know Texas I know Rodney Terry got the better of Bill self last year couple of times Texas was two- one against Kansas including that beat down in the Big 12
Championship game in Kansas City but God in a close game which I think this will be who you siding with on the sideline the two two time National Champion Hall of Famer or Rodney Terry it like a pretty easy one say who you siding with in a close game on the
Sideline the two-time national champion Hall of Fame coach or Rodney Terry not Rodney Terry yeah sorry about that one RT so it’s possible this Kansas team has flaws uh offensively they’re one of the best defensive teams in the country but offensively if you can kind of neutralize Dickinson and mcculler you
Can get either one them in foul trouble then that’s your best chance to win because they’re just not getting enough scoring from anybody outside of those two and maybe Johnny Fury they’ve got some serious depth issues as well but um yeah it’s going to be a tall task for
The Longhorns to go in there and get a win tomorrow we’ll see it’ be a huge one once again for Texas as they start their final five game stretch of the regular season okay uh before we get to some NFL stuff Justin Fields with some very interesting comments on a recent podcast

Round it is BET us where the game begins all right Trey some NFL stuff uh I I think the biggest storyline you tell me if you disagree with me but it feels to me that the biggest storyline of the NFL offseason is what the Chicago Bears are going to do at quarterback
Right like they’ve got Justin Fields still under contract for a couple years they spent a first round pick on him he’s shown some good some bad but the Bears also have the number one pick in a draft that seems to be loaded with quarterback Talent at the top so
Nobody’s exactly sure what they’re going to do but that to me feels like the biggest offseason storyline are you with me on that yeah I’d say so because the team is potentially getting a franchise quarterback and making that deal on the Bears can uh further set themselves up
For future success by pulling off the right trade Justin field should Garner a first round pick now it’s not going to be what they would get for trading away that number one overall draft pick so somebody else can select Caleb Williams but yeah that that is the big storyline
I mean there’s some free agent names that I think will elicit a lot of interest to but yes the Justin field story line is the biggest you think Justin Fields will net the Bears are first probably H it may it won’t be a top of the top of the draft first
Rounder but middle to end of the first round yeah okay yeah I got to look at more trade projections out there uh I like I’m not giving up a first for Justin Fields because part of it has to do with the talent like I’m just not a
Believer in Justin Fields I’ll eat my words if I’m wrong and I’ll have a lot of words I’ll have to eat because I’ve been really saying that since he came out of college but you only get him for a couple of years then you’re going to have to pay
Him and like you might have to pay him if he goes out and has a really good year for you you’re going to have to invest in him next off season which hey if he turns out to be a franchise quarterback you’re going to want to
Invest in him but giving up a first for a guy who yeah you only have under contract for two years and a guy you might have to pay after one that scares me a little bit but hey NFL teams are desperate for quarterbacks so if if somebody thinks Justin Fields can be
Their guy uh they will absolutely make that happen so Justin Fields here’s where we are here’s where we’re at in society today Trey uh Justin Fields unfollowed the Bears on his Instagram account and that became a massive massive story it’s like oh Justin Fields wants out or oh
The Bears have to already talked to Justin fields and they told him he’s out and oh my God the Bears are GNA take Caleb Williams number one overall and Fields is done who’s gonna trade for Justin fields that all started just by one simple click on the Instagram app
Well Justin Fields was on the St Browns show that’s with HRA and equinus St Brown of course two brothers who are receivers in the NFL yes they’re Brothers they’re also brothers too for those curious at home uh here was Justin Fields kind of going back and forth with
The St Browns on his decision to unfollow the Bears on social media are you unfollowing the Bears like I still mess with the Bears and that I’m just trying to take a little break I unfollow the Bears and the NFL bro I’m not just trying to have football on my timeline
Right I know y’all mess with a girl EQ especially you just because you don’t follow the girl on IG don’t mean you’re not messing with her that’s true that’s true that’s facts that’s facts oh so you’re saying you mess with the Bears there more now that you don’t follow
Them man it’s not even like that it’s something that I don’t want to see in my timeline I’m about to go on vacation I don’t want to see no football and guess what just get away get a little way for a little bit it’s see the keep fields we
Want Fields see the drave Caleb so it’s like bro man I’m tired of hearing the talk I just wanted to be over all right so there you go so a lot of back and forth there Justin Fields basically said it’s not that big of a
Deal it’s my off season I’m about to go on vacation I don’t want to see the Bears I also unfollowed the NFL I don’t want to see football stuff on my timeline but then at the end he’s just like I I just want it to be over which I
Understand because his name is being thrown around around by everyone in their mother right now but do you put any stock into those comments any stock into the unfollowing on Instagram I know where do you think the Bears are at with this decision right now the Bears are probably leaning
Towards Trading justtin Fields I don’t fault him necessarily for not wanting football on his timeline in the off season but you also have to understand the Optics of how that’s going to look and so they credit to those guys for asking him about it they asked him and
He gave an answer I feel like part of it was a little bit personal with him unfollowing the Bears maybe he tried to neutralize it by unfollowing the NFL too but I don’t know maybe Justin Fields hasn’t figured out the uh how to mute specific words from your time which is
Something that I found four or five years ago and has made Twitter much more digestible and look Justin here’s a great piece of advice to make that offseason even more relaxing just get off Twitter all together you know just uh just log off get an Instagram account follow some people on Instagram that’s
What he’s talking about under the veil of anonymity make an anonymous Twitter account that allows you to F follow those who you want to follow But ultimately he probably wants to stay in contact with certain people on Twitter so this is the route that he has chosen
Well this is Instagram I don’t know if he unfollowed anybody on Twitter but all this is about Instagram oh it is excuse me I I apologize I missed the Instagram part so yeah it’s uh you know what that that actually does make a little bit of a difference
The fact that it’s Instagram and not Twitter because you’re only seeing what you’re following on Instagram and so the number of people or the the [ __ ] that I don’t know what the be what the what Instagram uh what the Bears Instagram is posting so are they posting stuff
Specifically about the number one draft pick and who should we take and should we make a trade if they’re doing stuff like that then I don’t fault him at all for just wanting to block out the noise and the NFL maybe he just does want to
Get away from football NFL is going to be very football heavy content maybe he just wants to completely cut that off and if so then he’s made the right move God athletes make me so mad at times and this is one of those times like athletes
Do stuff like this a lot and look they want attention all right people like attention I’m not breaking any news to anybody people like attention that’s not just athletes that’s you and me that’s everybody we like people talking about us and caring about us it’s just how it goes makes us feel
Special I I get such a kick out of when athletes unfollow teams or teammates on social media they get asked about it and then they’re like why do y’all care why do you guys care so it’s like dude you know what you’re doing this is all calculated you want people talking about
You you want this to be a storyline that’s why you did it so stop playing dumb when somebody ask you about it every athlete does this happens all the time when they unfollow people on social media they’re trying to get a reaction because they want people talking about
Them and then they’ll play dumb and be like man why why do you even care why do you even care well I don’t know [ __ ] Justin you’re my favorite NFL team’s quarterback and you might not want to be my my favorite NFL team’s quarterback anymore that’s why I care it’s the most
Important position on the team trying to win games and now you’re saying like you’re unfollowing the team which makes me think that you’re not happy here and you want out that’s why I care that’s makes me so mad when athletes do that they just they play so dumb when it
Comes to this stuff and they like why do you care why do we care come on man I I don’t know what to take from this I like it’s it’s ultimately not Justin Field’s call I guess he could request a trade I don’t think he will it’s the Bears who have the
Leverage here the Bears want to take a quarterback number one see you later Justin if the Bears like you and want to trade the number one pick or take Marvin Harrison Jr number one then you’re sticking around and they’re going to keep you around so like that’s that’s
Who holds the cards here this is not like a holdout contract situation this is a hey literally whatever the Bears decide to do Justin I’m sorry like you’re victim of that underrated elements of the story that’s being pointed out by Rob here why isn’t the bigger story that there are people that
Comb through famous people’s socials and track who they follow and when they unfollow them that is so gross that is a that is a different level of loser if that’s your life waiting to see who somebody is following or unfollowing and then making that a new story yeah I
Don’t disagree with that I not the guy monitoring who follows and unfollows people but there are people plural out there who do that type of stuff obviously and it always becomes a story because as soon as that tweet goes out oh [ __ ] did y’all see who Dustin Fields
Just unfollowed like boom that blows up it goes viral and it turns into this so yeah uh I’m with you I think ultimately the Bears move on from Justin Fields if I were the Bears I would move on from Justin Fields I’m taking the unknown of any of those three quarterbacks out of
College over what I think I know about Justin fields which is just he’s he’s not going to win be a Super Bowl like could he be a top 15 quarterback in football maybe I don’t even know if the answer to that is yes but could he be
Good enough to win my team a Super Bowl I no I I don’t see it you should know by now three years into a guy’s career if you feel good about that and if you’re still wavering back and forth I think your answer is no and I think that’s
Where the Chicago Bears are right now so we will see but uh yeah there’s there’s your big story and we will not let Jerry know he’s available I do not want Justin fields in Dallas thank you very much yeah I mean he and Dak Prescott have won
No Dak Prescott’s won a little bit more in the playoffs so it’s uh it’s closer than than it should be though I’m just looking at the uh the middle to bottom of the draft to see which teams would actually have enough of a quarterback need to go after Fields chiefs no 49ers
No Ravens no lions no bills no Cardinals I guess not Buccaneers debatable although it does seem like they are going to bring back uh the bake show Packers no cowboys no Texans no Eagles no Dolphins no Steelers at 20 possible we’ve heard his name linked to the Steelers Rams at
19 no probably not Bengals no Jags no at 17 Seahawks at 16 Maybe Colts at 15 not right now I guess Saints at 14 that could be a possibility ragers at 13 also a possibility Broncos too high huh too too high at 13 yeah like maybe like I’m with you those teams make
Sense but that that’s a second round pick for a team drafting in the top half of the first round like Justin Fields ain’t going for that is he yeah so the cutof off point is probably Seahawks at 16 yeah man and the two teams I think I’ve seen
The most trade are Pittsburgh and Atlanta Atlanta’s got a top 10 pick like that that’s a second round pick for the Falcons or that might be like a first round pick in the following year’s draft or something oh my God i’ I’d I’d fire
The GM if if that is the deal that gets made um first rounder in the following year’s draft just any F any first round pick for Justin I can’t do it I can’t do it um no one’s going to get fired immediately after a trade that never
Happen but I I think you’re digging your own grave as a general manager if you trade a first round pick especially like top 20 for Justin Fields right that’s crazy to me all right we’ll take your thoughts uh code of text line 512 2229 328 what would you do if you were the
Chicago Bears and uh what do you think is going to happen at the top of the NFL draft which is a couple of months away also hit us up on the YouTube comments line as well all right Trey you asked for a little bit of extra time for where

You a story that provides a sense of optimism that has us all saying to ourselves hey maybe we as a people are starting to figure something out and today may actually be one of those days if I can actually find the proper tab oh
[ __ ] here we go oh no not this again oh no the daily struggle of Trey Elling the third go I found it I found it I found it it only took my fourth group of tabs to get to the tab that I needed to get to oh God going to the San Francisco
Area for this next story that’s right a positive where we at in society story from San Francisco that’s because an idiotic plan in San Francisco is completely failing before our eyes headline from the San Francisco Chronicle this Bay Area School District spent $250,000 on woke kindergarten program test scores fell even
Further a bay area school elementary school struggling to boost low test for scores and dismal student attendance spent $250,000 in federal money for an organization called woke kindergarten that trains teachers to confront white supremacy disrupt racism and oppression and remove these barriers to learning the woke kindergarten sessions train
Teachers on Concepts and curriculum that’s available to use in classrooms with any of the elementary school’s 474 students the sessions are funded through a federal program meant to help the country’s lowest performing schools boost student achievement but two years into the three-year contract with woke kindergarten a for-profit company by the
Way which is hilarious student achievement at this elementary school has gotten even worse prompting some teachers to question whether the money was well spent given the needs of the students who are predominantly low income two-thirds of the students are English Learners and more than 80% are Hispanic or Latino know so what better
Thing to do than to pump two hundreds of thousands of dollars into pointing out the Perils of white supremacy in an elementary school that doesn’t even have a whole lot of white people in it versus I don’t know maybe hooking these lowincome students up with nutritious breakfast nutritious lunches uh maybe
Some after school programs that could help some of these kids out no let’s just uh focus on white supremacy here because well we’re San Francisco and we do the stupidest thing imaginable with this sort of [ __ ] so I I’ve heard this group is anti-American they’re anti-israel and they want to disrupt
Whiteness those are all principles ideologies that are promoted to kindergarten age kids and woke kindergarten yeah oh my gosh I hadn’t even dug that deep on this idiotic organization I mean the fact that their name is woke kindergarten just they you take anything that they say or do with a
Large grain of salt but that makes sense I mean that tracks with what their supposed plan is is to help these kids in abject poverty to do better in school is just the most cockamamy means possible anti-American yeah it’s just what are they promoting like socialism like this
Country is bad because you know your families are poor and this country doesn’t do enough to take care of your families I guess that’s the the bit for a lower income school and what they’re trying to teach the kids yeah God dude so this school before this program was
Instituted only 8% of students were proficient in math for the respective grades and only 16% were proficient in English since the program came into be and started teaching these teachers to focus more on white supremacy than I don’t know the actual lessons that would help them become more proficient in
English and math those scor have gotten even worse with now only 4% of students at this school proficient in math 12 percent proficient for their grade level in English too I shouldn’t laugh about this like this is incredibly sad like this is this is the future of our
Country the Youth of America that is uh just being taught these ridiculous lessons instead of actually learning what they’re supposed to learn in school it almost feels like a lot of teachers out there are so keen on not teach they just want to promote their beliefs and
Values to these kids that that’s why they get into the teaching profession it’s like no I just want the future of our country to believe what I believe in I don’t want to actually educate the kids on like what’s going to help them in this life I just want to make sure
That I’m doing my part that this world is in good hands because these kids are going to believe in me and what I stand for and that’s like teachers going rogue doing that because there are like individual teachers you hear about who do this the fact that this is a program
Like a funded program by a district it’s like no to hell with actually teaching our kids how to read and write because that’s not important in this country uh instead we’re going to teach them about how Israel sucks how Hamas is great how America sucks how white people are the
Worst like what the fact that this even got approved is mindboggling because it wasn’t just one person who had to approve this thing this went through a number of channels to get the funding to let this thing go it just mindboggling [ __ ] how dumb the adults in this country
Can be yeah it’s a race baiting grift and sadly but not surprisingly the officials responsible for putting this program into place literally spending hundreds of thousands of dollars with this PO for-profit agency uh woke kindergarten don’t be surprised if their CEO lives in a million plus dollar mansion by the way District offic
Officials that are connected to this Elementary School defended the program just a week ago saying that woke kindergarten did exactly what it was hired to do the district pointed to improvements and attendance and suspension rat since the school is no longer on the state watch list only to
Learn from the Houston or from the San Francisco Chronicle that the school was not only still on the list but also had dropped to an even lower level so the San Francisco Chronicle which has typically backed some of the insanity that San Francisco loves to bestow on
Its people is actually saying No this is actually a crock of [ __ ] right now you guys can try and Gaslight everybody else and say that this is working and people are just mad because the name woke kindergarten the reality is based on quantifiable metrics is that you guys
Have gotten even worse in all of these categories since before this program started I how does it work like I’d love to interview one of these kids who’s a part of this program and be like what do they teach you in wo kindergarten and you ask the kid to write something down
And he just writes like f Donald Trump or something like that that’s the lesson plan that that’s the letters they’re tracing in school they’re just spelling out like anti-america stuff anti-republican stuff anti like that’s oh man I would love to have a first time
I think in my life I’ve ever said I want to have a conversation with the kindergartener but I I am just so curious what is actually being taught in this school because it’s not the stuff that you and I learned in kindergarten that’s clear because we learned how to
Read and write and do some basic math so I I want to know like what the kids have to say about about what their school is like right now I I’ll tell you uh one metric that saw an increase that is the small percentage of white white kids at
This school that are getting the [ __ ] beat out of them at recess and after school I do have some of the curriculum by the way and it speaks to what you just mentioned a little bit earlier the woke kindergarten curriculum SC shared with schools includes wonderings which poses questions for students including
If the United States defunded the Israeli military how could this money be used to rebuild Palestine in addition the woke word of the day includes words like strike ceasefire and protest offer students a quote language of the resistance to include children to liberatory Li liberatory liberatory
Vocabulary in a way that they can easily digest understand and most importantly use in their critiques of the system we’re talking about [ __ ] elementary school kids here dude these are 5-year-olds like I it’s not fifth or sixth graders which they’re still way too young to be getting into discussions about this
Kindergarteners dude yeah it it extends throughout the elementary school it’s not just kindergarten but yes kindergartens are a part of this program too I mean it is wild oh my God everybody like somebody needs to shut down this whole organization this thing should not exist this cannot possibly be what we’re
Teaching our kids right and this is not me like oh I just stand for all of the opposite end of the spectrum stuff that no that’s not like they first graders second graders third graders they have no business learning about this stuff we don’t want to corrupt them from a young
Age we want to try to tell them that you know the world’s not all that bad some good in the world not hey here hate these guys hate these guys hate those guys like what are we thinking oh oh man after the San Francisco Chronicle called out the uh
The officials on backing woke kindergarten and it’s approving various things the superintendent of the district said actually woke kindergarten wasn’t hired to improve literacy and math scores but that quote helping students feel safe and whole is part and parcel of academic achievement I get that it’s more money than we would like
To would like to have spent and there’s also a bunch of anonymous teachers at this school who are saying this idea is horseshit that’s not to say that racism racism isn’t a bad thing and we should teach people not to be racist this is
The opposite of that in a lot of ways I mean this is pure ignorance just being bestowed upon these kids unfortunately yeah yeah they’re being taught that way golly that’s that’s brutal that’s a bad bit right there uh in a city that’s had its share of bad bits in recent years but
That might be the worst one I’ve ever heard of and sounds like this is a nationwide program this woke kindergarten is this like a company that hypothetically any District could invest in it is for-profit yes any District can invest in this program boy they they had better be forthright any school district that
Is bringing aboard something called woke kindergarten because I imagine pretty much any parent who hears that idiotic name is GNA have some major questions that need to be answered before it’s ever implemented yeah yeah I just feel like woke and the education system should kind of be
Separated I I don’t think we should be like trying to promote that type of stuff in school I just don’t think that’s what school is for no agree I completely agree we had the conversation a few weeks ago about the my kids going through uh International Fair Day at
Rick Perry Elementary School here in Cedar Park and there were a bunch of different countries and it’s cool to get to learn about other cultures but there was one there was one country State who was passing out Flags to everybody everybody else was just kind of giving pamphlets out or providing information
And it was it was the Palestinian flag that all the kids who were a part of this Fair got sent home with and just like I don’t have the the flag pride thing that everybody else does to begin with but it’s like that being the one flag considering what’s happening in
That part of the world right now it just seemed very unnecessary yeah it seemed like you you really bleeding your view points over into kids who don’t necessarily need to be worrying too much about that sort of thing at this point in their lives I realize there’s a point
Where that becomes more relevant more important but you’re completely [ __ ] on the idea of the International Fair today by uh by uh pushing your beliefs on these these poor unassuming kids the kids are smarter than the adults these days I feel like sad all right well
Let’s lighten the mood a little bit here I see the fellas waiting it’s Chip it’s Zay gentlemen happy Friday happy Friday oh hey not much what’s cooking how you guys doing good we got a exciting show today the one and only CC Collier join the show whoa oh yeah yes

Stuff I’m excited about this you sure you’re going to the right teacher sure okay we’ll see what’s up coach I see you got the Southwest Texas in the background you got the Texas state sh on oh man yeah you know gotta support gotta support great day to be a bobcat guys
Great day to be a bobcat yeah so take us uh take us back to to your days it uh it you know now it’s Texas state but Southwest Texas um what was the young coach call you’re like in college you know at the time I got the job uh as the
Head coach there I was the youngest division one coach in the country and uh I told this on I told this to Isaiah on his Show when he was with the Horn uh you know I got that job I couldn’t turn it down but I wasn’t
Ready for that job you know you know uh I was only a high school coach for three four years uh before I became the head coach at uh at uh Southwest Texas and so it was a great honor to to to to coach at my University was I ready
No but I wasn’t G to turn that down you know those opportunities don’t come along uh quite often and uh I was excited about it young Str stronge headed coach you know gonna take the bull by the horn but I learn a lot I
Learn a lot and I don’t regret it and uh I had other other opportunities to get back into uh into the college ranks but uh you know I had uh two little knucklehead boys at the house and a daughter and uh you know if on that
Level man you you’re gonna be gone all the time when I was at uh Southwest Texas as a head coach uh I was always you know I may be on the East Coast one minute on the west coast the next minute you know recruiting traveling in uh
Summertime uh you know so Family Life uh took the back burning a little bit but you know it was a great experience for me and uh you know I’m glad I did it and uh you know here I am today you know retired 43 years later enjoying life
Sitting out on my back porch uh so uh yeah Life’s good well how did the buoy Bulldogs head coaching job you know talk about how that you know opportunity came and how it changed your life well uh before I got the buoy job I
Was at uh St Marcus I was at the high school and so I coached at St Marcus High School for three or four years and uh uh had a great experience there you know uh we had a we had a great ball club we uh went to the regional finals
Uh at that time I think 4A was the highest classification and we were 4A at the time and we got we were one game from going to State we got beat by Sam Houston and uh my starting post guy uh in the semifinal game sprang his ankle
But we went on and won that game and uh we went on and played Sam Houston in the fins and they had four division one players and so we end up losing I don’t know 12 or 14 against them I think it would have been a little bit of a
Different ball game if uh if uh my post guy I’m not saying we don’t W it but I’m saying I think it would have been a different game would have had a chance and uh but he spanked his ankle and uh we missed out there and so uh that was
Big Nate right no no that was uh Rob Thomas and uh Sandy Coleman and all those guys had a little point guard by the name of Daryl derryberry uh his dad was the head coach at uh Southwest Texas at the time and that’s the guy who hired me uh to come
To Southwest Texas but uh I had a little guard by the name of Daryl darbry who was absolutely the truth uh he he could play and so uh he you know we rode his back we were 33 and three uh that year had a great had a great team had a great
Run and so uh but anyway yeah so I started off at s Marcus High School and uh uh the next year D darbry coach hard me uh to be his assistant uh over at uh Southwest Texas and then the following year he got he got sick and uh uh they
Named me the head coach and so uh I was there for a while and and then I went back to St Marcus High School and that’s when I coached Mig Nate who went to Notre Dame but by the way let’s back up a little bit talk about Daryl One Step
Before we go on uh Daryl darbery ended up playing baseball at Texas for a year and uh uh he left Texas because he wanted to play basketball so I tried to sign him at Texas State back at Southwest Texas and uh uh he end up playing because he wanted to go to law
School so he ended up going to St Mar’s and played at St Mary’s University and got his law degree and everything but uh after I left uh South West Texas I went back to St Marcus High School and uh uh that’s when I coached uh Big Nate that
Isa was talking about uh 610 kid who uh played for uh Notre Dame and uh uh stayed there for one year and then Notre Dame lost their coach digger I think was the coach at the time and uh he retired and so Nate came back to Austin and
Lived with us for uh the summer and end up going to play for uh I think coach penders at uh at the University of Texas so he end up finishing up at the University of Texas and uh so I I left Texas state or Southwest Texas and went
Back to St Marcus High School stayed there till 91 and uh a coach by the name of Tommy Cox who used to be uh the head coach football coach at at Buie and went on to became the athletic director for AISD great man great leader and Men uh you
Know I learned a lot from that guy but uh he ended up hiring me at at Buie back in 91 and uh the rest is history I stayed at Buie for 31 years of my 43 years so yeah well and you had a you had a kid
Named Isaiah CER come through there what what what was that like well you know before before Isaiah I coached my my oldest son Brandon Brandon CER and uh you know uh it’s not easy coaching your kids uh you know because you want them to do well uh you
Want to make sure that you coaching hard that other people don’t think they they getting a free pass and uh so it was fun I wouldn’t trade that for nothing in the world to have an opportunity to to coach both of my boys I I turned down uh uh
Coaching at Baylor uh University so I could coach both of my kids and uh uh before Baylor though I got an offer from Sam Houston Larry Brown uh good guy and and uh he was at uh Brian high school and Larry’s been around well known and
Got the job at Sam Houston and asked me would I come down there and and uh I did not I turned that down and and then of course Harry Miller who me and him go way back as a great great friend and he uh called me up and asked me where I
Come down and so I went down and visit Baylor uh he was the head coach at Baylor had just got the job so uh Harry was down there and his assistant was Billy Clyde G lisy Billy Clyde was one of his assistants and Larry Brown by the way Billy Clyde was my graduate
Assistant coach at Southwest Texas so I knew that I knew that stuff down there and uh so uh yeah I I I I thought about it took my wife with me uh they offered her a job at Baylor and so we were set up and uh he said I need to know
Something real quick whether you’re gonna take this job I need to know by the next day so I’m driving back from wo we done had a long day at wo and uh uh you know they showed us around and and and houses and and everything and uh uh
I’m driving back down uh I35 and uh my wife is kind of sleep over there on the side and I’m thinking man I just got the buoy job not long ago you know and uh I told Tommy Cox I was going to be here a while
And uh do I really want to get back into college and uh you know little devil on my shoulders saying yeah take that college job and you know get back into it and uh but uh you know I said man you know if I do
That I won’t get to see my kids as much and and that was just not an option at the time so I end up calling up B Baylor and telling Harry hey man I’m I’m not going to come back and that was a tough job I mean that was hard to do because
Harry’s a good friend and uh it would have been a fun staff with with Harry uh Billy gispie and and uh of course Larry Brown was on that on that staff uh he’s the one that was took the job at Sam Houston tried to get me to Sam Houston
So had a great staff and uh but uh I called him and he said I understand uh I said I tell you what Harry uh I got a great young coach you need to interviewing said don’t take my word for him I said but this guy worked for me
When I was at Buie uh he’s a sharp a hard worker he’s got a great rapport with kids he’s got a great understanding of the game he’d be a perfect fit for you and uh Harry said who is that so I told him the name and uh called him up
Brought him down for an interview and uh by the way yeah his name was Rodney Terry Rodney Terry Rodney Terry bought RT down for an interview and so that was Rodney’s first college job is at Baylor University and uh the rest is history Rodney Rodney’s done a great job of of
Uh of uh uh getting to the point where he’s at right now uh you know he love coach the job you turned down at Baylor you recommended Rodney Terry and he got the he got the job that’s that’s right that’s correct w wow that’s great that’s great wow by the way
Me and Rodney we go way back further back than this coaches because his dad was related to my dad and so we kind of you know distance cousins there and so uh uh we didn’t know that until later on start talking and and stuff when he was
Working for me at at Buie so uh yeah RT is is has done a great job in uh welld deserving of of the job where he’s at right now so so uh yeah Z you call RT like Uncle Rodney right no I never called him that
No like he was like kin folk yes he is yeah his family Ronnie’s family no doubt about it no doubt about it and uh a great man uh matter of fact me and my wife flew out to Vegas when Rodney was at Fresno State and watched their Conference tournament over at
UNLV and and so uh that was fun that was fun that was that was Rodney’s uh first head job and so uh we went to their conference tournament out there in Vegas yeah wow had to get my wife out of Vegas what uh she spend that money slot
Machine I mean you kind of oh go ahead say sorry I’m Hing the go ahead CH so you’re uh you know Rodney’s coaching for you and what stood out about him you know you mentioned it what you said to to Harry Miller but um you know just
Maybe a memory or two from your days when RT was working for you several things number one I watched how he worked with the kids uh you know he had their attention he had their respect uh they respected him uh his knowledge of the of the game
Was was great and he was able to relate and and and that’s a great trade in coaches when you’re able to relate and uh you know he um he worked well with the parents he got along well with the parents I called him smooth back in when
He was working for me because it was so smooth the way he held things and uh I said this young man has got a great future he got a great future and uh yeah yeah and now started with you Rec commending him for the job well Ronney
Was Rodney was well on his way uh even even if if it one made that recommended he would have got there there’s no doubt about it he had that kind of drive and so uh I’m just happy to to to to give him that start and stuff but you know if
I wasn’t even in the picture no matter where he went he would have did the same thing I mean he just had he’s that kind of person very personable cares about you you know uh uh you know that’s a trait that’s hard to find and you know
Had that toughness ofv where hey I’m I’m gonna demand accountability and and uh uh the kids responded to that yeah so what do you think of how he’s doing this year this 2024 team seems like they’re kind of separating themselves from the bubble but if things go south and
They’ll be right back in the bubble again they got Kansas tomorrow what do you think about that well he’s got a tough two games coming up in Kansas and then I think he goes to Texas Tech is that correct yes that’s two tough games but two winnable games uh you know uh
It’s been a roller coaster year a little bit for for RT and uh uh you know people forget that uh uh duus hadn’t had much of an offseason he was injured he just came in and start playing you know uh he he he set out
Most of the years and and of course uh uh he lost two great players before the season ever started with the big kid out of Dallas you know that’s playing in the G league right now uh the kid that’s uh was from California if I’m not mistaken
That’s uh over in Australia playing pro ball right now so he lost you know two you know put those two kids in the puzzle and it’s a different ball Club it’s a different ball club and so he lost him late so now he’s scrambling trying to find
Players and stuff but give him time uh you know he’s already signed a couple of good players for next year and uh you know he’ll get it done there no doubt in my mind he’ll get it done and so but the two games that he got coming up they’re
Winnable you know I I think uh the larts are playing better defensively uh than they did at the start of the year and it’s allowed their offense to uh sputter a little bit but still win a game the other night I didn’t think they had their best game
But I thought their defense was good and uh they’re sted starting to play a little bit more connected uh and helping each other uh and uh so if they continue to do that and get the offense going uh yeah I think they’ll be good I really
Do well I got to get us back to uh when uh Isaiah was playing for the buoy Bulldogs because he said what’ you tell me you’re most nights you were 10 and five but when you were really motivated it was 13 and seven Isaiah was very consistent when he
Played for me and and and a a player that could play multiple positions uh you know to be honest with you and I never did this maybe once he could play point guard he could play two guard he could play three he could play the four
And he was big enough that he could play the five at times and so he was very very skill could handle the basketball could shoot the basketball uh people don’t believe this now but he could dunk the basketball with two hands so uh uh you know uh we ran a
Matchup Zone at times and uh a little complicated and I’ve haven’t had many kids that could run that back spot and Isaiah played the back spot on the matchup Zone uh because he was vocal he communicate well and so uh yeah Isaiah was Isaiah was a really solid high
School basketball player uh that could play a lot of different positions what about his brother Brandon Brandon Brandon was quick athletic out of control sometimes uh uh played the point guard for me and that was the only position that he could play streaky shooter uh a tremendous this athlete
Very quick very fast uh so two different kind of players yeah hey let you know about the Westlake days how personal was the Westlake games very very very you know I mean the kids would get hyped up when we got ready to play against Westlake and uh
You know we had the music blasting in the gym Rocky you know we that that that’s a that’s a tradition if you if you went to Buie high school and played basketball you you listen to Rocky before we played West Lake and it was blasting when they came out of the
Dressing room to get come to practice and and it was hyped up and uh those were big games back during then big games Isaiah played against tell them some of the Big Time Players you played against z um Cody duelan was probably the best one he ended up going to San Francisco and
You um who else I don’t know I got the the back for West Lake uh H yeah I didn’t get though he he graduated right before I became a varsity player okay I was gonna ask you which Westlake player that became a longhorn was the most difficult to prepare for from Brad
Buckman to Chris MIM I’ll even throw Luke Axel in there Brock cenh him will Baker you play to gets the ball man that’s a tough one I would say Brad uh Buckman I would say Brad Brad was tough tough kid uh 6869 could put it on the deck could
Shoot it uh had great toughness about him uh very skilled very skilled player I would say Brad butman no doubt I remember I remember Rick Barn saying I gotta get this kid Buckman I gotta get this kid Buckman I remember he was really fighting that recruiting battle and yeah I know Barn
Thought a lot of them yeah I I think uh it was between Texas and North Carolina yeah I believe it was those two schools that were fighting to trying to get Brad and stuff Brad’s a great kid uh you know what a what a great great person and and
Uh I love Brad uh we had some we had some big games I remember him hitting a shot in the corner and beating us at the buzzer one time uh I still remember that but we also beat them we also beat them we beat Nick Nick fos and and uh uh uh
What’s the big guy name that play for the Lakers uh me yeah we beat them uh we had some good teams back during then but they also beat us so it it was good competition hey that friendly competition that Rocky soundtrack is the best that’s the best
That’s the best ever you and I are if we’re gonna play together play golf in the mullet open we’re gonna play the Rocky soundtrack no question ain’t no telling iow to driveing 400 yeah yeah Rocky gets me pumped up yeah it gets me pumped up yeah that’s the best I love
That that’s the best oh I’m all about that soundtrack so so did Z ever get thrown out of a game or we got any any tough conversations that happened that we need to know about you know no good stuff no you know uh I coached him hard
You know I coached him hard there’s days when he probably said God body what’s up with Dad you know because I coached him just as hard as I coached all the rest of the kids and uh maybe harder but uh no no it never got kicked out of a game
I’ve had any kid get kicked out of a out of a game and so uh because those consequences the next day would be way worse consequences would be tough you know uh you know how was his free throw shooting good good Z was skill Z could shoot the ball he could go inside
Outside he could shoot the three that was skill I was just slow I was just really slow that’s it he was a very quick young man you notice I never used the word quickness when we talked about right with Brandon it was quick oh quick with Z yeah
Brandon very me and Brandon together we be in the Association right now yeah we been League been the league Le so what uh like when Z went off to to Paris uhhuh what was what was that like having him go off and you know on his
Own you know what it’s always scary when your kids go off and you always want them to do well and and uh you know they’re on their own now and uh you know like like like every kid uh you know all you can do is is is uh pray for him and
Hope they follow the right path and uh Hope they’ve had a a a good home training that they can go out and uh be themselves and and do the right thing so yeah yeah we felt good about it and and uh you know me and Mom was empty nesters
At that time so uh uh yeah it was fun it was fun uh it’s funny you say that I was talking to uh my buddy I was down at Shipley’s Donuts today that’s my hangout uh my man Steve and the crew down there so we were talking his his son goes to
Uh I think University of Colorado and uh uh he’s sick today and not doing good and uh Steve had to send him FedEx him some some uh medicine and stuff so you yeah you always worry about your kids when they go off uh and stuff but uh you
Know all three hours you know our daughter uh she went to North Texas and got her degree at North Texas and got her Masters at the University of Dallas and uh all three of our kids Brandon went to uh Concordia and all three of them got got his degree from there so
All three of them are doing well so uh hopefully uh me and Mom did a good job of uh setting a good example yeah that’s that’s awesome I I uh I I wanted to pick your brain with Texas playing Kansas tomorrow if uh you know Kansas not real deep but they’re man
They’ve been so good at home this year they’re really good at home I forgot you played against KJ too KJ Adams KJ Adams uh you know back during high school he was he he should have just skipped high school and went straight into the uh uh
D1 because he had a D1 body when he was in the ninth grade uh KJ and one of the nicest kids uh you know I I got a lot of respect for KJ uh a good person a good person but uh yeah uh you know Texas is you know the
Defense have to travel you know they gotta be really good defensive defensively uh if they want to have a chance tomorrow uh I think uh Bill Seth does a good job uh with moving his players and and Kansas’s got some good pieces you know they they
Uh the big boy on the inside is is a handful uh uh transferred from from Michigan I don’t know how Hunter Hunter Dickinson oh he’s a handful you know he can go in or out he can play inside or outside uh he’s kind of like Theus uh
You know and uh and then of course KJ you know uh he struggled I guess the last several games you know but he’s capable you know he’s he’s a tough uh person to guard because you know he’ll hang around the the high post area area he’ll hang around the shark Corner area
And people will forget about him and all of a sudden it’s an Ali hoop or he’ll catch it and shoot that little uh you know elbow shot at at the free throw line and and uh you know uh just physical just totally physical he can
Defend uh so uh and then uh the 69ine white kid they got what’s that kid name FY Fury Ronny Fury I like him I like him too I like him I really like him that kid can do some things he can put it on the floor you know he’s long he can
Shoot it you know before you know it he can get to the rim and finish uh you know and the kid that transferred you know I don’t know their names but the kid that transferred from Teek mull yeah mcculler he’s that glue man he’s that
Glue man so yeah you know ksas like you said they got a short list seven players at most and uh but you know kosef doeses a good job of rotating those guys and and and pick and win the sub and rest those guys he does a good job at that
And they’re tough at home so Texas is you know hopefully they’re their offense they’re shooting the ball well uh Weaver brings a lot of energy uh I like that guy you know I think he’s been good for Texas lately and uh you know I think he’s the one that kind of gets them
Going and uh if he can do that and and their defense can can can create some turnovers and uh uh if they shoot the ball better than what they shot at the other night they got a chance we were Z and I were yelling for Weaver to get on get more minutes before
RT was giving him minutes but is that right y’all saw that good yeah yeah we high energy guy very athletic unbelievable unbelievable you know tough kid tough kid you know uh he’s been good for Texas lately he really have I think everybody feeds off a weaver I really do
I think that team he’s kind of the the piece that connects the defense together yeah we got a question here from Jack Burton who says coach what makes a good recruiter personality personality you gotta sell uh uh you gotta sell number one you got to sell that University not
Not just the basketball program you got got to sell that University and number two you got to sell that head coach you got to sell that head coach you know uh you’re gonna go play for that guy you gotta talk a little bit about what makes
That guy uh that you want to go play for so yeah uh and then the last thing you got to recruit the mama you know the mama seals the deal you gotta recruit that Mama you gotta let her no we’re gonna take care of your kid that’s
Important Mama want to know that Mama want to know that you know and so uh yeah it’s it’s uh it’s uh a tough thing that’s funny you say that because I remember when we were making our trips when I was coming out of high school to
See where I was goingon to go ended up at Paris we went to Wy East Texas I was ready to go coach was ready to have me he was talking about expanding my game talking about playing me at the three or four I was ready to go and Mom wasn’t
Having it she wasn’t having it I didn’t go to wey so she wasn’t having it you gotta you got to recruit that Mama that’s one thing you got to do and uh gotta sell that program and uh you know everybody’s got good facilities nowadays you know
You look around and Baylor’s got a new facility University of Houston’s got a new facility you know uh it’s a different ball game now CH Isaiah it’s a different ball game now you know because in come into play you know back when I was coaching there was no nil that was
No nil and and now you know you gotta talk a little bit about nil you know everybody’s looking for a bag everybody’s looking for a bag you know now it’s now it’s over the table used to be yeah yeah what can you do for me you
Know what can you do for me you this comes in from uh Chris Bennett any Michael Griffin stories uh I got one Michael Griffin St story we were playing in the playoffs uh I think it might have been first round when Mike was a senior and
Uh I think we were playing John J and uh Mike got into a little scuffle so I had to uh go out there and grab him and bring him on back to the bench and sell him down but uh yeah Mike was intense uh Mike was a great defensive player great
Defensive player and it was intense you know Mike played with a little chip on his shoulder and I like that I but you know I you know we can’t we gotta make sure that we play Within the game don’t disrespect the game so I had to go out
There and grab him get him off the court and and stuff but uh he told Chip and I when the football season was going on that you think that he was your best defender ever and I’m like yo man he thinks you were a good Defender but best
Ever that’s a little Rich Mike Mike was Mike was close in the top five no doubt about it Mike Mike could guard you know I’m not gonna say he was the best defensive player ever because I had some good defensive players at Buie but Mike
Was Mike was one of the kind of guys that uh you know I could go put him say hey Mike I don’t want you to worry about anything else you guard that guy I don’t want you to help off of anybody he’s your man wherever he goes if he leaves
Go get a drink you go with him okay Mike was that kind of guy he would stick with his man and uh part knows tough and and and uh won us a lot of Gams because of that so uh yeah Mike was a good defensive player uh uh what about Marcus
Marcus was a great shooter understood the game had a great mind for the basketball game Marcus could stroke it yeah Marcus two different kind of players two different kind of players and stuff uh Marcus was calm very sad didn’t say a lot you know didn’t talk a
Lot on you know had to get him to hey you got to talk on D got to talk on D that’s one of the things we got to do but Marcus was kind of quiet and stuff not Mike not Mike Mike would get us fired up Mike could talk who’s the best
Player who’s the best player you ever coached oh God I don’t know put you right on it right on the hot seat I’ve had some great players man and different kind of players uh who that’s a tough one I you know Jeremy greens Ben panners Colton Benson’s Mich Michael hter you
Know before that you know darl darbery darl Derry was a stud but I also got the coach Mike Wacker by the way when Billy Clyde left me as my graduate assistant coach the next year I hired Mike Wacker as my graduate assistant coach when I was at Southwest Texas so Mike also coached
With coached for me but when I became the my first year of coaching at the Eighth Grade Campus coaching those eighth grade kids which I had to get out of there real quick uh uh junior high just won for me oh no no no no but I I
Enjoyed coaching the eight grade kids but the high school coach called me up and said hey look I need you to come over and work with me at the high school and M Wacker was was playing at that time and Mike was an All-American high school All-American Mike was a stud and
So I got a chance to coach Mike Wacker coach the post guys a little bit uh so uh you know you gotta Billy CDE I mean Billy Billy Gillespie everyone remembers Billy when he was at A&M and had it had it going what you know at Kentucky and
Kentucky right yeah and at at uh Texas when he I think when he left Kentucky yeah Billy CDE was around Billy great basketball man you know he’s another one of those young guys that just had a great uh knack for the game uh defensive minded you know you couldn’t play for
Billy if you couldn’t play defense you couldn’t play for Billy uh what’s the big kid that that’s playing in the NBA Jordan played that Andre Jordan so I’m over there watching I’m over there watching Texas ANM Paces I go down and watch Billy Pras when he was at an& tell you a billy
Story and right at the beginning of practice I’m sitting at the scores table just they got it all set up and the most intense intense practice I’ve ever been to was probably Billy gisp practice and I’m sitting at the scores table watching practice and it’s
Intense I mean you can feel it uh I guess second would be Bobby Knight but uh I went to watch them work out but anyway Billy is practicing and uh first of all there was there was a collision at at at at Center Court where two kids
Ran into each other fell on the floor sweat and everything is wet out of the corner of my eye on the left side this manager runs jumps over the scores table okay hits the floor wipes it up okay and Sprints off to the other side I go now
That’s intense and right after that happen Jordan did something where he wasn’t hustling he told him run the stairs I mean run the stairs well 20 minutes gone by in prous Jordan is still running from the bottom of the floor all the way up to the stop
Top and I’m looking at him and hour’s gone by of practice Jordan is still running the stairs I go man that kid is still running the stairs it’s two hours so I get up and I walk over there buying and I said hey man you might want a trip
Or something and say hey Co coach hey have you forgot about me you know I’m ready to go I’m ready to go he ran for the whole direction of practice the whole time he ran the whole time of practice DeAndre yes plan in the leg now plan in
The leg now the most int practice that I’ve ever been to and I’ve been to some good some good workouts I’ve seen some good college coaches practice but that was intense Billy did Billy did a good job and and you’re gonna play hard I mean there’s no you cannot relax there’s
No relax time you go you know if we’re gonna go for two hours we’re going two hours strong if you’re inur you still can go now if you’re if hurt a little bit I okay but if Andre go to the room but if you hurt a little bit let’s go
Give me what you got if it’s 80% give me your 80% you know he was he was hard noos and uh they won a lot of games at ANL he did a good job yeah good job he’s at Charlton right yes yes he’s yeah yeah yeah and they turned D1 they’re D1
Now yeah yeah wow that’s that’s good stuff any other uh super guy what what was to’s best game do we remember it might have been his your sophomore year when he came off the bench against Westlake was that junior year junior year that was your junior year yeah against Westlake uh at
Westlake I believe and uh uh was it when Jeremy got injured or yep Jeremy got injured or green who play for play played at Stanford Jeremy was a heck of a player uh played at Stanford and uh Jeremy got injured and uh I go wow you know we got a chance to win
This and Jeremy got injured I need somebody and put Isaiah in and he hit some big threes down the stretch and uh yeah we end up beating Westlake at west lake because of Isaiah yeah yeah yeah come on Z hey man hey just letting them preach just letting them preach you know
What I’m saying you have that game you remember uh like 18 yeah yeah all in the second half basically yeah all in the second half how many threes four they were like back to back to back yeah coach called the Timeout on the other side yeah big moment man big
Moment came in a big came in a big run yeah let’s go yeah man Wonder no wonder you always bring up West Lake oh I’m telling it’s personal chip it’s person personal man hey hey Dad go back to the Bob night days you spent a week with him right just picking
His brain and you know y’all are pretty cool if y’all hear some outside noise this guy’s got this H blower blowing leaves over here uh he’s gone to the other side now so if y’all hear that that’s what’s happening uh in my neighborhood oh you’re good anyway anyway Bobby Knight
Story you know what uh Bob KN was kind of like bigger than life it was it was you know when I first went down there I I spent a week down there learning the the uh motion offense uh he’s the king of the motion offense uh is he’s as good
A coach of coaching the motion offense as I’ve ever seen and uh uh I remember setting at here again setting at the scores table Senate court is this a Texas Tech or at Texas Tech this is at Texas Tech and uh the players are kind of you know
They’re working hard and the coaches are working hard and Bobby Knight is not out there yet this is at the beginning of practice so they’re doing their shooting and and stretching and warming up and stuff and then all of a sudden Bobby Knights walks out of the tunnel and you
Gotta remember Bobby KN 65 he’s a big man he’s a big man he’s coming out of the tunnel and you can just tell the whole thing changes on the court the atmosphere the intensity the kids start talking the coaches got a little bit more peping they step and I’m going
Wow and the his presence and the first thing came to my mind was coach I’m talking to myself coach cut your cell phone off CA don’t look like this guy gonna put up with anything so I’m in my pocket fumbling with my PO pocket trying
To get my cell phone to cut it off cut it on solid and practice started and it’s it’s intense and it’s good and Bobby Knights he’s intense but he’s funny also he he’s hilarious you know and uh he he’ll crack a joke or two while he’s practicing but yeah those
Guys those guys earn their money let me tell you that’s so funny that you bring that up because I was talking to Michael Crabtree when he finished up his football career at Texas Tech is ATN Home Depot Awards I said hey weren’t you thinking about playing basketball at
Texas Tech and he’s like yeah he said uh Sunny Dykes was the receivers coach and the recruiting coordinator uhuh and so Sunny brings Crabtree by coach Knight’s office it’s a big recruiting weekend Sunny’s phone went off and knight’s like hey turn that turn that phone off sorry Co sorry coach he
Goes outside takes the Call Comes Back In well Sunny can’t turn off his phone because it’s a recruiting weekend he’s running everything so his phone goes off again and knight’s like hey I thought I told you to turn that phone off uhuh sorry sorry sorry so he goes out takes
The call comes back in and his phone goes off again and knight’s like godamn and Crabtree goes hey we’re good we’re good I’m done and yeah yeah and they leave yeah go I wasn’t gonna play for that guy oh yeah you should have seen me cutting my phone off I go this
Guy don’t look like he’s gonna have it you know and stuff but he was hilarious he just you know had a great personality and uh you know what all you hear about Coach Knight and you see the chair being thrown when he was at Indiana what a
Great man I I learned so much she took time from me and it’s funny you know who was on that staff Chris beard beard Chris beard Chris beard was on that staff beard andat he sure yeah yeah his son Pat was on that staff well it’s
Funny because I I wrote the story about him going to Texas Tech and I went out to cover the press conference and I had been talking to Pat and and Pat’s like you know he’s gone he’s done some anger management stuff so I asked him about it
In the press conference and he’s like you know my wife has a saying when the horse is dead get off the horse is dead right get off it I like go back get in line come back up and uh because IID said well I have a quick followup
Question he’s like no no I let’s move on and he said how many people want to hear a follow-up question from this guy and they all booed because he he kept everyone in the arena so I go to the back of the line I get back up and he’s
Like hey everybody here’s our followup question and um and I asked him another question because he he said the last time he was at Texas Tech I’m not coming back here till the turn of the next century and he’s like yeah well I thought i’ I thought I’d come back and
Then he starts talking about minute made orange juice and so the next morning I’m the only one there it’s five in the morning six in the morning I’m there the whole hour it’s freezing cold outside and the players start coming out so I’m talking to them like hey what was the
Message blah blah blah and then Knight comes out and I was like hey coach Chip Brown with the Associated Press I’m and he’s like I’m not talking I’m not talking I said well I’m the only one here and your players just said that you know they got the he goes hey I’m not
Talking and I said okay okay and and so he starts walking to his car and then Pat comes out and I’m like hey Pat you know and so I’m talking to Pat for a second and then right as coach Knight is getting into his car he’s like hey hey that deal
Yesterday that was pretty good and then he got into his car and drove off and I go he wouldn’t even talk to me 10 seconds ago he’s like listen he goes you stood up to him now he got the last word but you funny he was impressed that’s
Awesome that’s awesome oh good lord I was like Pat how did you deal with that like you know how did anyone deal with it but yeah no he was I mean he was an unbeliev incredible so one night we went out to eat he took us
Out to eat and uh it’s it’s it’s a little hole in the wall steak place the best steak I’ve ever eat I bet it was the 50 yard line I don’t I can’t remember the name it was in love it yeah it was unbelievably good he had his own
He had his own place in the back by they were yeah he had his own place everybody knew him we go back there and we sit down and some some some kind of way we start talking about discipline you know you got to have discipline and stuff
Like that when when you coach and you got to have discipline in your life and and stuff and he said yeah he said you know my little my little uh three-year-old grandson he said my daughter was doing something and he was messing up and my daughter go and that’s
One and I was sitting there and all of a sudden he kept up doing the same thing and my daughter go that’s too and finally he said I couldn’t take it anymore he said I went over there and grabbed the little three-year-old set him real hard in the scene and say you
Little SOB sit right there and don’t you get up he said everybody has to have discipline even that little three-year old grandson no that’s he’s he was he was he’s one of a kind One of a Kind one of a kind you know what his players loved him his players loved him
Gu you know everybody talk about the chair and and and how hard he is and how tough he is you know he had a different side to him and uh you know the that old s and I learned this way before I saw coach uh Knight I learned it from coach
Wacker they don’t know how much they don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care that’s so true and the kids you know that he coached knew that he cared and uh uh another story uh uh uh this was back when he was
At Indiana he used to always write out his practice uh schedule sticking in his back pocket and walk around you know before practice and they say every day Quinn Buckner used to come up there and look you know get behind him and look and see what was written on the practice
Schedule that was sticking up to see you know how long practice gonna be how tough what we gonna do this do that and Bobby night finally got tired of it and uh one day he wrote on the back of the pra schedule Fu Quinn and so Quinn
Looked back there and and it was funny I mean that’s how pra started with Quinn rolling on the floor because that’s what coach Knight put back there so uh you know he had a sense of humor he really did but he was he was he demanded a lot
He held the players accountable you know and and and you know a lot of people don’t want to hear that nowadays but from Junior High all the way up you gotta hold kids accountable you really do that if you want to be successful you really do yeah yeah you really do and
You can’t make everybody happy you can’t try to make everybody happy if you’re gonna coach you know you’re not gonna make everybody happy that’s part of it that’s hey somebody’s gonna be unhappy whether you winning or whether you’re losing somebody’s gonna be unhappy and if you worry about making people unhappy
You’re not gonna be very successful what uh what do you think about Rick Barnes you know at Tennessee he’s always got teams that are like in the top 10 and he’s been to that one final four with with uh you know um TJ TJ and TJ did more for Rick Barnes
I think than Rick did for TJ in a lot of ways because he got Rick to calm down a little bit you know but I mean I look at that Tennessee team he’s got right now I mean they look good everybody wants to pick them to go deep in the tournament
But they don’t ever seem to go deep in the tournament yeah and I don’t know why you know basketball winning is hard yeah you know it’s just you know you gotta be good you gotta be lucky you know look at Purdue do they ever do good in the tournament
Right I mean you know so so I mean it’s it’s man you gotta be good you gotta be lucky you know it’s just it’s it’s it’s one of those things the University of Houston when they had a lan and and all those guys and that that that shot where big guy caught it
And finished right there at the buckz Charles North car it was North Carolina State wasn’t it and beat you know uh man Houston was loaded they were loaded loaded they were loaded and stuff and go Lewis just didn’t just didn’t get it done so uh yeah you know but if you look
At Rick Barn’s record and how well his teams do the big picture yeah he’s a Hall of Famer he’s a Hall of Famer there’s no doubt about it now what do Rick have that some other the coaches don’t have he’s a great teacher of the game he understands the
Game he holds his players accountable and if you go back and look at all the coaches uh that have that kind of success kind of have that resume that same resume and and uh you know of course you got to have some good players that that’s you know you gotta have some good
Players and stuff and they gotta buy into what you do and uh you know the good ones they get good players they they get them to buy in they hold them accountable and uh uh they let them know that they care about them and uh these
Are the guidelines you can play with in they understand their role and uh uh they get a lot out of their players and they’re successful you know how do you how do you do you don’t success I’m sorry go ahead oh no as Arrington said coach would you rather coach five one in
Duns or five seniors five seniors I’d rather coach five seniors uh the reason why I get to know my kids I get to I get the I get to see them develop and grow to me that’s what it’s all about uh you know the five and done
That’s tough you got them from one year and they’re out of there and the next year you’re right back where you started uh you know I’m not saying I wouldn’t coach a five and done don’t get me wrong now but I I would if I had a choice you
Know I would rather coach five seniors those guys have been with me for that long and and and uh uh you got a chance to see him grow and develop and build a relationship I’m a relationship kind of guy and and uh you know to me that’s
What coaching is about you know you know not beside coaching you got to build relationships and and just coaching for one year sure yeah you can build a relationship but you really get to know your kids and if they’re there for four years how do you feel about where the
Game at is at now I mean Adam Silver commissioner of the NBA he came out and said he was pretty unpleased with how the youth coaches in a is being just kind of brought up compared to what they do in Europe and you see guys like joic
And Giannis and Luca come over to the league and are just so developed and skilled you think there’s anything missing or do you think the game is still in a good place well if if if we go back with with with with to college right now I I I
Just don’t like the the transfer portal I I I’m just not real big on that and and I think they need to you know it’s not going to go away I think it needs to be adjusted you know one year you get to transfer one time that’s it you know there’s guys
Transferring three and four times they’re out of there you know uh I don’t like that I I I just don’t like that going back to aou and and and and uh uh kind of stuff I think it’s starting to change a little bit because now the U is
Allowing coaches to coach their kids during the summer for one hour a day I think that’s gonna help high school basketball because now I get to coach my kids instead of my kids going just to play Select ball or AA ball I get to see
My kids I can see them every day one hour a day and work with them with on their skills whatever on their defense what ever their need whatever their needs are and uh I think that’s going to make a diff big difference and that that just started what three years ago you
Know so uh I think that’s G to help I don’t know what they’re doing in Europe I’m behind the ball on that what are they doing in Europe right now that that uh the commission they just have those development programs where the kids are basically going to basketball school at
A very young age and then they get on those club pro teams very early and they just kind of play uh just a different game yeah yeah will will we be able to do that over here you know some of those some of those uh select teams over there
In Europe in different places are have an academy where kids just go to school and that’s all they do they go to school there and then they uh most of their day is spent on the basketball court and the rest of it is in the classroom you know
I don’t think we’re going to get to that point I just don’t think we’ll ever get to that point uh uh but I do think basketball is getting better I really do I think basketball is getting better uh if you look at some of the players that
Are coming out right now uh go to some of the high school games around here and watch these High School coaches uh you’ll see coaches that are really putting in a lot of time and a lot of work and effort uh you know uh Stony Point you know they got one loss they
Got a big kid that’s going to uh uh villain over uh you know those kids are are unbelievable how how well they play uh you go over there you know everybody was talking about oh West Lake lost a lot of players and they’re gonna be you
Know Westlake coach does a great job and uh they end up tying for the district Championship uh this year and uh have won a couple of rounds in the playoffs so uh you know these guys are working hard you know they’re scouting the grind is real in high school basketball uh you
Know uh they’re in gyms watching kids play uh they in the summertime going down watching their kids play uh you know they spent a lot of time watching film and scouting uh now you got huddle you don’t have to go out and Scout like back in the old day when I was coaching
Uh huddle came out right at the end of my career and so you could just click on huddle have somebody to send you that film boom watch all the film you want I spent more time watching huddle but that was was good but back in the day we
Didn’t have no huddle you know we had to go and uh try to exchange tapes and uh we started with the VCR and then we went to the little mini cassette and and stuff watching film and now it’s all on the computer and and uh you can watch it
On huddle and which is awesome and so uh but you spend a lot of times there’s a lot and there’s no days off you know we practice six days a week you practice six days a week in in high school ball they go to practice on Saturday and you
Got Sundays off because the UIL said you had to and uh but the coaches are up there on Sundays watching film what can I do or they take their computer home watching film getting ready for Monday because they gotta play on Tuesday you know so the grind Is For Real it’s it’s
For real and uh you know I think basketball is is in a good place I really do well we need to we need to do this on the regular coach sure okay sure I wouldn’t mind I wouldn’t mind we’ll get you back yeah that’s the best time of the
Year absolutely when was the last time you won a family bracket 96 it’s been a minute ain’t it come on now what what you doing because I was riging champ this past year I’m feeling good feeling real good sh they get on Coach hard my family get on Coach hard simply because
I was the coach okay they think I should know more and so when I lose you know they’re calling me loser and stuff like that when the last time coach won and and my wife beat me and Isaiah beat me and my daughter everybody beats coach
You know I haven’t won in a while CH but I’m feeling good about this year uh hey when you and I play in that golf tournament we’re gonna turn on that Rocky music and we’re gonna win hey I’m looking forward to it you know I got a
Bad back but that’s not going to stop me I’m playing in the in the bues tournament I’m playing with my friend Buck that’s my guy right there Bucky uh I may have to get a one of those relax the back chairs uh after I play in that
Tournament but uh yeah I’m playing in that tournament okay all right it’s a deal coach thanks so much appreciate you guys having me on today appreciate it yeah man y’all take care all right there he is coach Collier you kidding me guy’s a legend we’re we’re g to get him on on
The on the regular during March Madness we’re gonna man we be talking some hoops with uh with Coach you know what I’m saying it’s my man all right so were you uh did you get your chores done on time and that kind of thing H depends or was coach always
Having to get after you about he was always having to get after me yes okay yes always having to get after about chores like I mean how can I focus on chores I’m worried about my left-hand finishing you know what I’m saying and that that never worked who on who was on
That Westlake team that you schooled um they had a kid Conor keer he was around 65 66 he was solid I think he went on to play some college basketball um yeah their biggest dude was Cody duelan like he was dropping 40 on teams and I kind of I grew up playing with
Cody as a kid yeah he kind of play in the same organ ganization that I played in even though he was a year younger than me and sometimes when they played up in my grade they would put me on their teams and he was always good but
Yeah he took his game to another level in high school and he ended up going to San Francisco and then UNLV solid solid player but yeah we never had the I didn’t have to deal with Nick FES or anything like Nick folos actually I would have played him if I was sophomore
And he would have stayed but he was so good at football he said I’m just gonna go full football because I’ll be an NFL player one day and yeah that obviously worked out for him B was pretty good basketball player oh my gosh he was like a 65 Dirk
Yeah he was like a six5 dirk man well let’s uh let’s talk a little football with our man John mlan John mlan Hall of Fame voter and in the Pro Football Hall of Fame for his coverage of the NFL John how you doing I’m doing great guys how are y’all we’re
Doing great it’s uh it’s a family Friday we just had Z’s dad on for uh for an hour he’s a legendary coach at buoy high school and and uh so it was nice of Zay to arrange that and uh I learned all about Zay and how he beat Austin
Westlake High School in a huge game coming off the bench wow so you know yeah John he uh he also talked about how he had the opportunity in the 90s to take the assistant coaching job for basketball at Baylor and he turned that down to coach my brothers and
Me Harry Miller I always heard that Z was on the bench of course and he was on the end of the bench and he came down to the last game of his senior year and the fans started CH chaining we want Z we want Z we want Z and it reached a
Crescendo with the fans chanting we want Zay finally his dad called him over Z runs over there Dad I’m ready to go in no Z I want you to go over there and find out what the hell those fans want I love it sometime when people ask me if I had
A if I played football uh when I was growing up I tell them yeah I use that joke I love it I love it so um did you play football growing up till I discovered girls yeah play football I was going to be Cowboys quarterback where I was going to play center field
For the Astros they’re going to have to move Cesar s Daniel to left fi to make room for me and then I discovered girls and my life went straight down to toilet but the sports bring you the girls John you didn’t put two and two together John as they say it’s
Undefeated that’s the truth it is undefeated um okay so lot of uh hubub in the NFL about free agency and we were talking about Kirk Cousins the other day cuz he was on the same Michigan State roster with Nick FES and Brian Hoyer my man FES is out of the game so’s
Hoyer and Kirk Cousins is coming off an Achilles injury about to be a free agent and it looks like he’s still gonna get another contract John every free every potential free agent or player who is about to be cut or his contract redone because the salary cap they are
Celebrating in the streets because the NFL announced a while ago the Cap’s going up to 2554 million from that’s 30.6 uh million increase more than 133% it’s never gone up anywhere like that the most I had seen projected was 250 and I didn’t believe it because
Usually cap goes up about 12 to 13 so it’s all about life is all about timing you know whether you’re driving on the freeway or bars are about to close down at 2: a.m. it’s all about timing and if your contract’s about to expire like KK cousins and you’re unrestricted it’s
Going to be even better for him and anybody who’s all those free agents who want substantial raises they got a better chance of getting them now with this monstrous hike in a salary Camp that’s a hundred million more than then God I was covering the league in 22012
2002 and the salary cap was like under a 100 million started 1994 I believe it was 30 something and uh and it’s uh some teams know how to manipulate the cap better than others there’s ways to you can sign players without just keep pushing the cap dollars down the road
Where the piper going to have to be paid at some point but the ones who’ve done that now look like Geniuses with this monster increase and the Cap’s always based on income the owners have and the owners uh paid back they got some uh the
Union agreed to cut back and defer a lot of the money they would have gotten during the pandemic so now it’s all due and that’s one of the reasons it’s happening plus TV revenues with all the streaming revenues is going up so it’s good good time to be an NFL player 87
Million went to benefits and pinching so don’t feel sorry for those NFL players they’re never gonna increase the insurance though for the retired players I mean is it still they only get health insurance the first five years after they retire yeah you don’t get it for
Life and I I’ll ask some of the older guys that were part of strikes and 77 82 and 87 I said well did you do anything for the old guy oh well no everybody just does it for themselves now in the last CBA they did designate um they did designate a
Certain portion to the pre something pre something I can’t remember what the year was and a lot of players got a raise of about 3,000 a month but what they’d love to get of course is insurance for life but that’s never going to happen you know there’s a few guaranteed contracts
Kirk Cousins was fully guaranteed desan Watson’s is I saw um a tweet somebody put out there that Watson’s percentage of the Browns cap just went down Significantly wow was 64 he’s du 64 million against the cap and which I don’t see how they could possibly carry that kind of cap figure but now maybe they won’t have to redo it push it down the line or give him a new contract yeah wow John Dalton Schultz said to be a
Free agent what’s the word on him are the Texans is he a key on them you know resigning Dalton Schultz or are they gonna let them go and maybe seek somebody in the draft or via trade well if you let Dalton Schultz go you have nothing you have to start over in free
Agency of the draft why would you want to do that there’s no guarantee about rookies it’s not a good tight end year like it was last year which was pretty incredible and if a tight end’s out there available in a cap there’s a reason you know the Cowboys let Schultz
Go after one year after he was franchise because the younger guy I can’t remember his name who’s really good Ferguson yeah Ferguson and so uh CJ strad likes Schulz a lot he feels comfortable with him confident with him I think they’re going to resign him and they’re not going to
Throw they’re not going to throw away money and some of the things that the best managers of the cap know to do do you don’t spend a lot of money on a player unless he’s coming off a rookie contract and you take care of your players first you reward players for
Jobs well done because that provides incentive for the other players when they say oh geez you know Dalton he came in had a good year uh they’re paying him I want to have a good year so they’ll pay me and you make sure you don’t sign
A lot of guys you don’t ever sign big guys with an injury history or guys who’ve hit 30 for big money and those are just four things you should keep in mind and if you do it you got a much better champ chance of managing the cap
In a better fashion than a lot of teams do when they spend money that they regret you know after what the Texans did this year John I mean what what do you think is fair expectation for 2024 well of course it depends on who they keep they’re going to have big turnover
They have more than 30 players with expiring contracts of course they don’t want to resign all of them but there are some a guy like Jonathan Gard he’s their number one guy but he wants like 20 million or more a year they’re not going to give that to him he’s been hurt every
Year he’s been in the league and he had 12 and a half sacks last year would had more but he got hurt and if somebody El offers him a a bigger raise than they’ve got budgeted they’ll let him walk and they’ll look for somebody else but they
Have needs two good positions to look for in free agency if you had needs like the Texans do they’ll need a linebacker if Blake kushman uh leaves uh not Blake kushman my goodness I forgot his first name and uh he’s UNR yeah Blake he’s unrestricted he played really well first
Year in his career he’s been healthy and you got to be War guys who are healthy in the in the contract year and not any other time like look at the Yankees Aaron judge is hurt every year except in his contract year he gets more than 400
Million what does he do miss 40 games next year it’s you have to worry about that and so um you can get linebackers and safeties Texans have big need of safeties where you look at the premium positions like what the Texans need they need defensive lineman they need pass
Rushers that’s what you get in the draft unless you’re getting a guy cheap to be part of a rotation and you need corners and then the receivers they’re not going to be looking for offensive linemen for the first time their problem last year is they had to start 11 because of
Injuries and U but they and then they got to improve the running game but I don’t think it’ll be spending a lot of money they’re not gonna sign saquan Barkley or Derrik Henry or Josh Jacobs because in the zone scheme that they run so many backs have been good in that
Scheme uh for years since Mike Shanahan started to perfect it and it was continued over under Gary KUB and then C shanan well speaking of the 49ers I saw some Buzz about should the Texans trade for Brandon auk the 49ers receiver yeah that kind of stuff is is put out
There by all the fan websites and it’s great talk show hosts like to talk about it because they got to talk four hours a day so it’s fine to talk about it it ain’t happening they’re not going to go out and trade and give up uh picks for
The next two years to get Brandon auk and they’re just not they already got Nico Collins coming off a great season tank Dell was having a great season he’s back so there’s only one football to go around they will get another receiver they haven’t given up on John Mei II who
Played all last season didn’t didn’t do much he played he had a catch every once in a while he was a good blocker ferocious blocker but considering he had to beat leukemia and a torn ACL this will be his third season but kind of like his second so they have high hopes
For him they trade into the second round to draft him out of Alabama before he blew out his knee after he blown out his knee in SEC Championship game so they’re not going to go out and make a trade for iuk and pay him whatever it is he’s looking
For John Mike McDonald head coach of the Seahawks just came from the Ravens as a defensive coordinator he just hired Ryan grub who was the coordinator for kayin dor for the Huskies we saw them at the Sugar Bowl against Kansas but uh what’s Mike McDonald bring to the table what
Have you heard from him what do you think he’s gonna do up in the Pacific Northwest I I I knew he’s going to get a a coaching job I thought it might be Washington one of the others in the eastern part of the country and then
When they brought him out there I kind of thought Mike Vel was going to get a job now you’ve passed up Mike Vel who’s been coach of the year has gotten to the AFC Championship game and he’s done it with an inferior roster and so he got
Fired after last season but you’re going with a guy McDonald 36 who’s been a coordinator two years and he may go to the Hall of Fame as a head coach but you’re taking a heck of a chance John Schneider now gets in total charge in Seattle first time in 12 years because
Pete Carroll always had final say on Personnel so it makes sense that he’s going to get a young guy who is fine with him making all the Personnel decisions and if McDonald’s team plays as well as his defense did the last two years he’ll be
A success they got a lot of Talent on that roster and I’m not so sure about Gino Smith they they like him they don’t love him they’re not in a position to get another quarterback unless it’s a free agent like Kurt Cousins if I’m them I’m looking at cousins if I’m the
Falcons I want cousins I don’t buy and well maybe Pittsburgh go after cousins I don’t buy I know Justin Fields is going to get traded the Bear’s GNA take uh Caleb Williams this stuff about the Steelers might be interested in fields Steelers have never in their history well that’s not true Jefferson Street
Joe Gilliam who was there with Terry Bradshaw he liked to run around but they like they’re built on the running game pocket passers they want mobile guys of course who can slide and avoid the rush and throw on the Run they’ve never had anybody like Phils so
I would think cousins would be a candidate there both those guys could be a candidate with a Raiders isn’t it amazing the way so many teams still need quarterbacks it seems like it’s that way every year yeah John when we talk to you at this time next week the combine will be
Will be going on how much that they always say the first round is about measurables and the guys who you know just hit the measurable lottery in life give us your take on who stands to gain the most are there certain positions that tend to gain the most at
The combine what uh you know what’s your take on that guys who are like H chip they look great in their underwear the NF fell and I think this is preposterous as we get close to the draft what you did in college is less and less important you should as an NFL scout
General manager Personnel director or assistant coach should be able to watch tape of a prospect’s games every tape of every game he played and know whether he can play or not and then you talk to people that worked with him and uh they love to talk to strength coaches medical
People cuz that’re around those guys the most and you should be able to make uh wise decisions if that’s all you have but when they get out there in shorts and t-shirts and they look good and they sound good in interviews and they’re and they’re so much fun to be around when
They have dinners and lunch all of a sudden they’re value skyrockets I never paid any attention to JJ Watt uh until his combine in 200 11 in which everybody oo nod about him and I’m like who what how big is he what did he do 2006 Texans never even went to
Mario Williams pro day then Mario Williams tore up the combat everybody’s running back to figure out who this Mario Williams is and both of them turned about to be really good first round picks by the Texans then you got a guy like Mike mamula from Boston College
Great great combine one of those is the great Joe bucks bomb used to say looks like tarz and hits like Jane well that was Mike Mulla first round pick Philadelphia I think seventh overall one of the biggest Buss in history Ryan Leaf lights it up in shorts and t-shirts
Chargers trade up to get him Mitchell trabis looks great goes up in the draft the Bears do to get him when Mahomes and Watson were there to get uh kadam for nothing and so you see a lot that fall in love not just at the combine uh you
Can’t tell anything about linemen they can run but you know why they have Lyman run the 40 yard dash is beyond me it should all be about the tight spaces the quickness lateral quickness what they kind of burst do they have when they run 10 yards because they’ll never run 40
Yards unless they’re chasing a guy who scores and they want to get in on the celebration wide receivers can look good quarterbacks can look good my God how can you not look good when nobody’s rushing you nobody’s covering you if you don’t look good at the combine something
Is wrong and last year price young was there everybody wanted to see how tall he was and how much he weighed but he didn’t throw CJ strad through and all of a sudden people boy that’s CJ strad he can throw and I’m thinking well yeah he should be able to throw
Here DBS are another one because you can watch their hips turn and run and you could see their speed and all those drills they put them in through and course you see their size and if a Corner’s six foot they’ll slobber all over him because that’s great size today
And if they’re if they’re taller than that they even got a better chance but uh not much about the lineman linebackers can’t hit anybody fullbacks can’t run over anybody backs can’t run over anybody I love it on NFL Network a running backs weaving in in and out of
Of of things they put down for them to weave in and out of and they’re like oh my God look at that nobody’s chasing him nobody’s hitting him why shouldn’t he be good I just think I love it I watch it it’s first time I haven’t been I’ll be
Watching it from afar and I’ll eat it up but there’s it’s fact Al life that this point combine uh Pro days private workouts that’s when you make your money if you’re a prospect John what are your thoughts on Marvin Harrison Jr chip said this week that he take Roma Doom the Washington
Receiver over Marvin Harrison Jr and it got me thinking if Junior didn’t have the dad or that Hall of Fame jeans would he get all this hype that he’s getting I believe chip is probably well as he was with the Lions he was the only fan in the country outside of
Michigan of the Lions for decades and just like now nobody would think that about ad uh other than from the state of Washington nobody thinks like that Marvin Harrison Jr it wasn’t as a freshman as when he’s a sophomore he exploded everything I’ve seen about him
Is is great and yeah when he had CJ he did but and he he and everybody said well he and other receivers made strout now it looks like drout had a lot to do with their success so no Marvin arrison Jr is going ahead of him if they have
Three quarterbacks come off the board as the first three and if the Patriots don’t take a quarterback they’re crazy that’ll leave Marvin Harrison Jr going to Arizona to play with Kyler Murray well I remember Larry lacewell rip Larry lacewell with the Cowboys every time the draft would roll around
He’d pull out this little index card of Mel hyper saying the Cowboys should draft Tony mandr over Troy Aman and he’s like everybody’s a genius and he’d show that little quote and it just cracked me up there’s though I go back and look at scouting reports sometime I’m just curious about what
People said about stoud what they said about about Deshawn Watson what they said about Ryan Leaf and pton Manning at this point in 98 probably half the people and I’m not talking about just NFL people I’m talking about media people former players and coaches who
Are in the media they had said Ryan Leaf should go ahead and pton Manning because he was bigger wider had a better arm was more mobile but nobody and when the Chargers traded up to get him with Arizona I knew when he came to the combine
And I watched him get out of his uh van in front of the players hotel and he set his bags down for the valet and went inside and there’s no valet and then we just sat there and watched in a few minutes he came back down with his head
Down picked his luggage up and went back in that that guy must have had a high opinion of himself that’s not a good look I covered I covered the Ryan Leaf year here with the Cowboys I mean John it was it was Ryan Leaf Chad Hutchinson uh then Quincy Carter but Ryan Leaf
Actually started a game for the Cowboys I mean it was it was so sad and he threw this pass and it went like into the stance right arm yeah and I said hey what uh what happened on that pass that you threw into the stands and he goes oh I have this wrist
Sublation thing he’s like so they taped it up and I’m like oh my God you know he heard it lifting his luggage at the combine I guess he should have said I threw it right where I was intending to throw it anybody complains about Dak Prescott should think about that
Quarterback room they had that year yeah that was awful was there uh do you have a favorite combine story um or interview or any I’m trying to think of something that was away from football I’ve already told a story about Mike mamula who who was the biggest combine uh workout warrior in history
Anytime anybody talks about somebody they bring up the mamola example and U I know uh boy I know a lot of story there’s well it does sound like there used to be a club right off downtown and I’m not going to say who it is you you
Go to this club and a lot of women would come from the Indianapolis area and go to this club on the weekends and you and I would watch some coaches dancing uh on the on the big elevated dance floor and a couple of them it was like Slam Dancing they were banging into
People knocking them around course or drunker and skunks and I was thinking about things like that where I’ve seen things that were off the Record that I would never use and uh I remember one time a guy came up well this is one it would be for Austin guy came up to me
With these big old black rim glasses and it this was when there were probably seven or eight of us C writers covering the combine and we were in the lobby of the Crown Plaza nobody helped us if we had a list of numbers like some guys
Number 38 39 and we see 38 and we got Bo that’s so and so we got to interview him about the draft and there was a tight end Lawrence from Texas Lawrence uh sampleton uh no it wasn’t Lawrence sampleton it was uh anyway the guy that
Came up and introduced me was Jeff n a long horn and Jeff was his uh only client his first client and I and he wanted to know if I wanted to do a story on the player and I didn’t because he’s a longarm and Jeff and I thought that
Guy will never get another client then he turned out to be one of the most successful agents in the business and uh still is and done an incredible job boy I wish it wasn’t sampleton I could remember who it was and uh and and
And now Jeff and I are friends but he uh at that point he looked like he’s about 12 years old and I thought he’s going to get chewed up and sped out by all these agents trying to steal his client but he didn’t and uh I’ve seen some funny
Things about uh players U who was the guy the linebacker that got mad at all the U LSU Foster Ramone Foster got mad because he didn’t he left did he got mad at the doctors because they kept poking and pring him which is what they do and
He yelled and screamed at him and right then he should have known there was going to be he going to have issues first round pick and he’s bounced around and never fulfilled his potential because he didn’t have it here in the heart and uh I but anyway those are
Things some that I can think of off the top of my head as far as interviews uh mace Claret running back from Ohio State goes up with his big old oversized pullover and he did because he was about 30 pounds overweight ended up going to third round to the Broncos and
People were asking about his weight he had all those issues off the field taking on the NFL and he never would admit how much he weighed Brian Cushing I have great respect for Cushing because there was all these steroid reports about him at USC he had steroid reports
Going back to high school so I’m right in front of his Podium so right off the bat I asked him about all the steroid reports and I thought he would say next question or I’m not talking he addressed them he said I’ve had them all my life
This is how I go about dealing with them and uh and I respected him for the way he took that on oh I got another one um Tim TBO comes to the big Podium it’s packed out there and and we’re waiting to ask start asking TBO questions
And a guy in front y’all would know him Oklahoma City longtime columnist there it might be Barry he was in the front and you see him hand his notepad and Pen to TBO and TBO writes something down and hands it back to him and the media says
That he asked for an autograph just makes him look terrible he didn’t TBO thought it’s something he needed to write down saw said Can it can I borrow your can I borrow your tablet and people just should have been humiliated I remember just ripping the hell out of
The media because they didn’t check it out they just assumed he was getting tbo’s autograph and he was not and I thought man I’m glad TBO didn’t ask me for my notepad because I was just kind of on the end beside him and that was embarrassing and it was the media people
That publicized it that should have been embarrassed yeah I bet Barry was there because that was Sam Bradford’s draft as well I believe well I can’t remember and I think it was Barry um uh but Barry’s I felt I felt terrible one time in the
Media room he stood up and said I did not ask Tim because you guys know when there was a bad media report like Boomer C’s report on radio New York the bellich turned down the Falcons you know the toothpaste is out of the tooth and a guy
That reports it can always say well hey it was true they just don’t want people to know it I was right and if you say may or could or it’s possible then you get away well hey I didn’t report that but today we see more and more of that
All the time because there’s so little accountability and uh but I’ve never felt worse for a media person than I did that weekend well let’s uh let’s do it again next week we’ll we’ll pick your brain for some more combined stories I’m sure uh you know I’m sure

It um Texas is playing Kansas tomorrow at 5: pm and this makes me sad in a way because this is the last time Texas will be playing at fog Allen Fieldhouse for the foreseeable future and I’ve been lucky enough to cover a bunch of games at fog Allen Fieldhouse and I think
Back uh to March 3rd 2007 when Kevin Durant went in there and this was one of those rare occasions where this final regular season game was going to decide the regular season Big 12 championship and Kevin Durant turned the sound off in fog Allen Fieldhouse which
I’ve compared to a a 747 jet hanger when you’re revving the engines of a 747 it it’s 16,300 people stacked on top of the Court raising the sound level until the opposing team just loses its nerve and Texas you know I’d been there in 99 01 03 this was
Before went you know down to a 10 Team league so Texas would play at Kansas every other year and in 07 this was the week that Durant and AC law put on probably the best performances I’ve ever seen in the Irwin Center it was a double overtime game AC
Law hit three-pointers to extend it twice he hit three-pointers to force overtime the first time and the second time he scored 33 Durant was had 30 and 16 I’m getting chills talking about it um but they had just played that game on Wednesday and they’re going to fog Allen Fieldhouse to
Play on Saturday so you’re like oh man what’s Durant got left you know and I just remember I would always go to the court early when I would go to Allen Fieldhouse because it’s a museum I mean just the building is a museum and when they renovated it they actually turned
Part of it into a museum and so I remember walking out to the floor and there’s Durant all by himself getting up shots and sweating like you know he’s kind of going through it and I’m like wow you know we’ll see what what’s going on and because this was a
Kansas team that you know had Julian Wright Shon Collins Mario Chalmer um you know Dell yeah Brandon Rush you know and it was UN unbelievable Durant came out smoking I mean he he just couldn’t miss and it was threes it was drives to the bucket it was turnaround
Jumpers and he had uh he had 20 points with 755 left in the first half and Texas he had 25 at halftime and Texas was up 16 and it was silence in Allen Fieldhouse like they and they know basketball as well as any fan base in the country and they still talk about
It and unbelievably Durant turns his ankle at the 11 minute Mark of the second half and he leaves the game for four minutes on the clock which you know is like 20 minutes of real time and Kansas gets on a run and by the time Durant comes back at the seven minute Mark
Kansas is leading and Durant’s not the same I mean he’s just kind of hbling trying to make it through and when that game ended and Kansas won it by three they stood and gave Durant a standing ovation as he left the floor I’ve never seen anything like it you know Kansas fans
They’re like Rock Chalk jhawk and get on on your way they gave him a standing ovation as he left the floor and it was one of those situations you just you say what if because Bill self leaned over to Danny Manning who was his like you know head of operations at that time
And said Danny you got any ideas this guy’s going to put on us they had Julian Wright on him at first and Durant was just working Julian Wright then they put Brandon Rush on him nothing could stop Durant until he twisted his ankle and I just wish we would have gotten to see
The rest of of that game with a healthy Durant because no one had ever scored 25 in the first half against Kansas ever I don’t think that’s happened again since but they still talk about it and it was ridiculous so yeah KD’s one year at Texas is still just so memorable and
Special one of the top five best college players I’ve ever seen in my life and yeah that Kansas team that next year they went on to win the whole thing so that team was really good and yeah then Texas they played him in the Big 12 champ chionship that that game was
Insane yeah that game was insane shiron Collins and and Durant I mean it was yeah that was that was a lot of fun and then they ran into that USC team in the way out there in Spokane with Nick Young Swaggy P swag swagy P was getting us that thing
God swagy P was it I mean it was yeah swagy P went off Taj Gibson went off and no one that I think that was the game AJ couldn’t hit a shot um well I shouldn’t say that because I don’t want to AJ’s a local kid but Texas just couldn’t get
Any you know couldn’t get anything going um and so they were out in the round round of 32 yeah I saw AJ Abrams give my dad 41 during his McNeil days oh wow oh yeah yeah they still won the game the Bulldog still pulled it off somehow but
Yeah AJ Abrams went for about 41 at the Round Rock tournament and you know when you win obviously you move on they moved on to the championship and guess who they faced Del Valley and Curtis J who went on to Baylor played for Scott drew one of his best guards in the early
2000s they lost that one but yeah playing AJ Abrams and then Curtis Geralds and backtack games like that’s just that that’s some [ __ ] man and I stand corrected AJ Abrams did have it he scored 20 and had he was four of seven from three it was DJ Augustine who
Couldn’t he was one of eight 04 he couldn’t couldn’t get it going he only had six points in that game I knew there was a guard that struggled um but yeah Durant went for 30 in that game I think Durant I think he had 30 like in was a
Crazy run of 30o games there at the end but I’ve never seen an 18 19 year old be able to shoot the ball off the dribble at that size in my life yeah like I don’t I well he’s like Dylan Duo he was a Late Bloomer so he was a guard until
He was 15 he could handle he had great handle and then he shot up you know late and so he had here he is the 610 611 kid with great handle yeah he’s one of the best ball handlers of all time and if you want to talk about like pound forp
Pound at his size like he might be the best ball handler at 610 and up like it’s just on a string he doesn’t do it as much now that he’s you know around 35 34 but go back and watch that Thunder film like I saw a clip yesterday on 2014
Against the Warriors where he dropped 54 points oh my gosh like that dude was still so special but man those Thunder days where he was crossing guys over and hitting step backs and dunking on people just I again I might be biased he’s a
Top 10 player all time for me like I say what you one about the Warriors days call him soft whatever you know Charles Barkley loves to say he’s not the bus driver he’s the bus rider I don’t give a damn I just talking about hoop and what
You see on the court like he was the MVP of those Warriors teams I know it was Steph Curry’s team but he was the MVP this dude Durant is a top 10 player of all time I know there’s bird I know there’s all those guys that have you
Know elen Baylor people want to bring his name up and stuff man if you were playing against Milkman and truck drivers and stuff we ain’t counting that as much around here like we we ain’t counting that guys were working in the steel mill having Black Lung and [ __ ] smoking cigarettes during halftime and
After the game we can’t count that we can’t count that so yeah Durant he deserves his flowers and shout out to KD keeping those fans in the game too like when they lady and oh boy called him a [ __ ] and stuff and KD went to check
Them a lot of people would have thrown them out you just wanted to check him the dude completely changed his energy once KD came about and KD said you know what keep him here they pay good money for these seats keep them here but you’re not gonna disrespect me and I

To big hatp spirits.com for all your latest info or head to HB right now and get yours today all right chip for’s big hat Spirits player of the game prediction I am going with Kendall Weaver we need Kendall Weaver to have a huge game against those Jayhawks man his
Matchup is either gonna be Kevin mcculler or it’s gonna be Dean Harris I don’t know which one I think it depends on how the game plays out both of those guys McCulla and Harris love the ball in their hands and that team goes as far as
Dean Harris goes when he has a great game it looks like a team that could get to the final four when he struggles it looks like a team that could lose first round I trust Kansas in March it’s going to be very hard to trust them just
Because the lack of depth you know they only play Five Guys 35 Plus minutes everybody else nah man you’re not gonna get on the court for Bill self’s team he doesn’t trust those guys and we kind of talked about it a little while ago former Texas Longhorn and transferred to
Kansas arterio Morris kind of screwed them over with all the trouble that he had off the court because they were really banking on him to come in and be a starter and be a huge addition so he gets in trouble and now Bill self’s only good with five but that five is damn
Good you know Dean Harris he was part of that National Championship team I do think if it wasn’t for Remy Martin that team would have won the championship with Christian Brown and OSI abaji but he was the headman on that Squad he deserves his flowers again when he plays
Well they are a good team Kendall Weaver if that’s your matchup you cannot let him play make you want him shooting you want Juan Harris looking for a shot because he doesn’t want to look for a shot he wants to get to the paint he
Wants to throw lobs to KJ Adams he wants to make those nice drop dishes for Hunter Dickerson and which Hunter Dickerson he’s gonna be a problem tomorrow but hey Dean Harris he’s the one that makes him go if Kendall Weaver’s assignment is on Kevin mcculler
Then you got to try to take him out the game as much as possible that’s a fiveyear player lot of time at Texas Tech with Chris beard and then he went to Kansas now he’s playing for Bill self and other after Jamal shed he’d probably
Be picked for a big 12 player of the year the dude could shoot it the dude’s playmaking is good he’s a top-notch Defender Kevin mcculler is a very good player and now he’s getting more and more healthy he looked really good against Oklahoma where they won by 10
The other night so yeah Kendall Weaver hey man we know that he brings it it starts defensively you heard my pops talk about it he kind of he definitely initiates the defense and makes them go but yeah man I tomorrow I’m a little nervous every time you go to Allen
Fieldhouse you feel like the refs are acting different they’re not giving you the calls and stuff and you just all the pageantry that’s around you just kind of get caught up in it and if you’re an opposing team that kills you you know those fans are right on top like you
Just said chip and yeah if you allow those fans to really get going and make an impact and it could be a long day for the Longhorns tomorrow but you know they’re going to be pushing out on Max AI Dewan Harris is going to try to take
That three away from him hopefully Max Aus could get back into a Groove Tyrese Hunter he has to play with that effort that he did against Kansas State even though he didn’t shoot the ball well just play tough man whoever Kendall Weaver doesn’t guard whether it’s Harris
Or mcculler excuse me which I think it’s gonna be more mcculler I can’t see Tyrese Hunter on him I can see Hunter Hunter defended dwan Harris in the Big 12 championship game last year yeah he did so that’s probably going to be the matchup and he’s defending him these
Last few years even going back to Iowa State he guarded Dean Harris so he knows and last year last year Kansas was 21 and0 going into that game when Dean Harris scored six points and they kept him from scoring his sixth point until Texas was up 18 they won the game by 20
Yeah hey he’s what makes them go go man like if he’s scoring I don’t really worry about that it’s when he’s scoring and getting guys involved it’s when he’s getting Steals and which leads to Fast Break layups and stuff because he’s out here dishing that thing with his passes
And stuff like you can’t allow that Dean Harris to get going make him shoot if he has an open three and hits it hey so be it but you don’t want guys like Fury going off from three or mcculler going off from three or Hunter Dickerson getting anything he wants inside I think
If you’re guarding toan Harris whoever that is and Hunter Dickerson gets the ball that man needs to be in position to help you know you never want he does a good job at finding guys when the double comes but if your man is you know the
Ball is swung to him and it’s Dean Harris don’t run out to him jumping for a contest let that ride let him shoot that we we’ll take it even though he’s shooting 47% from three he’s only average at eight he doesn’t want to shoot it like if I’m shooting 40
Something percent from three I’m taking at least 10 per game at least you know Dean Harris is shooting 40 something percent from three and he’s only averaging eight points he doesn’t want to shoot the ball he’s an old school type point guard if you take him out I
Like Texas chances a huge matchup tomorrow also chip is um Dylan Mitchell versus KJ Adams that’s a big Time athletic freak matchup and KJ Westlake Alum he’s just so strong and physical him and Hunter Dickerson are really good in the high low game where you know KJ
Will catch it around the free throw line elbow spot and Hunter Dickerson will seal off his man and KJ makes a really soft pass over the top and that’s a layup like they get that all the time you can’t let that happen if you’re Dylan Mitchell you got to close off
Those windows so he can’t make those easy feeds and Dylan Mitchell offensively you got to go at KJ you know you can’t allow KJ to when the pick and roll is set for him to get out there on aess and danan Harris both of those guys double team and Blitz him once the
Ball’s in your hands Kendall Weaver Dylan Mitchell you have to attack and then see what’s out there and if you’re Dylan to Su Hunter Dickerson we’re breaking your ass out you come guard this on the perimeter We’re not gonna try to be down low swinging elbows like
Bill lamb beard and [ __ ] no that’s not what’s going to happen we’re bringing you outside might take a little step past the three-point line Dylan T Su has that range and we’re gonna dance out there because Hunter Dickerson he wants to clog that paint up and get blocks and control everything defensively shouldn’t
Let him do that Dylan duu you probably see see him on the perimeter way more than you’ll see him down low and yeah Texas has a chance but again Lawrence tough place to play always will be always has been we’ll see what happens tomorrow and obviously they have
The better Coach so love coach Terry but that bill self guy is pretty damn good you know and I think last year if he didn’t get sick then that team they had way higher aspirations than losing that second game around the 32 yeah that was uh that was an
Impressive performance from Texas and Duo you know Duo got hot in that big 12 tournament and then turned it up you know I think he averaged like 14 and8 in the Big 12 tournament and then he’s averaging 22 and 10 in the NCAA tournament and then he you know suffered
The foot injury that he would ultimately have surgery to repair um so yeah this uh this is a you know bring your own guts game yeah they didn’t bring it to the fertita center and they sure as hell better bring it tomorrow yeah Bo how you I don’t even know if
They showed up to the fertita center I was there for two and a half hours I’m not sure I saw Longhorn Jersey I like to think Houston’s just that good like it’s gonna be hard for me to not put them as my winner for it all
In my bracket you know I don’t know if I’m bied just for watching them the whole year of the Big 12 but I saw perue go down the other night I saw Yukon go down the other night and I like both of those teams but man Houston just what
Jamal shed they got the best point guard in the nation and that might be what takes them over the hump you know and just like you guys were saying about Kansas also it is so hard to win there a 19 game home winning streak for Houston now 18 game home winning streak for
Kansas as as Texas gets set to head in there tomorrow so not exactly you know Big 12 schedule makers didn’t exactly do them any favors with the end of this year although they they get some of the easier teams at home I guess that helps but man those back-to-back Saturdays with with those
Two games on the road is about as brutal as it gets in this conference yeah well boys have a great show a great weekend y have a great weekend too great show thank you hey there Trey how you doing can you hear me got me can you hear me I got you okay
Thank goodness how you doing today good how are you oh I’m good just had to run up to school unexpectedly this is going to be day one of my kids coming back from school on their own on their bikes but I got a call from my daughter first thing
This morning after they had arrived at school saying that her bike was messed up and that she needed help so went up to school in the morning fix the bike which it wasn’t really broken it was just the gear hadn’t dropped to the a lower gear that
She had turned it to and then had to meet them up there because there was going to be a lot of confusion otherwise if I’m trying to put four to five sentences and a school note into each of my kids’ classrooms it was bound to be a
Disaster so rather than that I just said meet me at the normal spot they met me at the normal spot we went and walked over and got her bike after we got my son’s bike because they insisted on parking at their bikes at different bike racks lovely enough and uh yeah and then
I got home just in time to start the show so uh you’re at work as we can see with that orange wall I can’t clearly as you can also see I can’t get the settings right over here so I feel like I was looking as orange as the
Background so I was messing with my light a little bit Yeah I had to I had to uh go with the computer camera for the latter part of this week because I’m dealing with some stuff with the camera that I normally use which is a much better camera but it’s causing a slight
Delay with the picture versus the words coming out of my mouth so I don’t want to look like I’m in an old kung fu movie so I’m having to figure out how to uh correct the lag or create a little bit more of a lag with the audio feed so
Until I do that we’re just going to be going back to the less than optimal webcam through my computer I think this one looks pretty good does it I’ll be honest yeah okay all right well maybe maybe I won’t even mess with it then maybe this will just be the camera again going
Forward maybe a l you were in Houston at that game last Saturday yeah you know I it was one of those tough calls in this in this industry where like I’m not the beat writer for the paper so while I want to be at every game didn’t NE necessarily
Need to be at that game but I’ve also wanted to see a game there they have a really good team I heard that atmosphere was going to be crazy which it was that was the best part of it was the atmosphere um but yeah I would I would
Go ahead and chock that up as uh the old horns didn’t exactly make that worth the trip but hey like I said I I wanted to see a game there I mean barring a move to Houston that I’m not planning on or a trip to Houston I’m not planning on I
Will never have really any other reason to go to a Houston basketball game at least that I can foresee so figured hey why not I thought Texas would at least keep it close like my prediction for that game was more of a you know four to seveno Houston lead
At the half not a 13-point Houston lead at the half and then you know Texas maybe kind of makes a run early and then Houston ends up winning by anywhere from eight to 12 points that was kind of the game the classic game that I had had where you
Know it’s not not what played out obviously that did not happen not happen it’s just two games in a row and again the opponent shows you that you can get away with different things different days in different buildings but not a great shooting performance two games in a row for Texas
And you just are not goingon to get away with that when you’re playing Houston for one and when you’re playing Houston in their building you know they almost got away with it when they played Houston at home a couple weeks ago yeah uh not even close and then they had a
Couple sloppy turnovers and Jamal shed’s the real deal I mean that dude is an absolute Beast like they’re uh they’re M big guys really good too obviously so in a game like that where you running the camera you were holding a camera the entire time yeah I was holding a camera and
Then I I just did my my sports cast from there okay so in a game like that where you’re responsible for the camera and you need to stay locked in enough I guess but the outcome is pretty well determined by the first commercial break of the second half are you just focusing
On getting b-roll the rest of the game just getting video of guys who maybe aren’t getting a ton of playing time in a given season Once they finally enter the game with eight to 10 minutes left or are you putting the camera down at some point and just doing more observing
Than anything else or starting to uh think out what you want to say about the game and uh for the rest of the sports cast pretty much all the above actually but definitely getting some more isos of different guys so that like I bring it
Back here and then I put it in our archive system like I got Chris Johnson checking into the game talking to Rodney Terry so let’s say Chris Johnson becomes a key contributor next year hey they keep talking about Chris Johnson you know just like we see in football all
The time like they’ll talk about a guy a bunch during this during the season and maybe he or during the offseason guy that barely played as a freshman and then boom it’s like well wish I had that video much easier in basketball when there’s really only what you know 10
Guys 10 scholarship guys I guess yeah um so yeah getting that getting different assistant coaches getting shots of Rodney I am still shooting the game though because like there bu there are some Kendall Weaver plays that I’ll use for the archive later and also with Jamal shed being an Austin guy like
Let’s say Texas is an early exit from the tournament or doesn’t make the tournament you bet your ass uh there would be four or five local TV stations in this town trying to do a story on Jamal shed yeah so I’m gonna and and some writers as well for the local paper
So yeah that’s usually what I’m doing is just getting that kind of stuff one one funny story from the game not gonna name which assistant coach it was uh not that it would be bad if I did but before the game there was a bit of a delay with
Texas being able to warm up on one of the baskets because there was a national TV Camera the camera on top like the dunk cam basically that looks down at the basket and if you watch this game let me know in the comments because you you
Definitely saw the delay I don’t know if they talked about it I wasn’t watching the broadcast but the camera they couldn’t get the camera right so then they just left it like down and guys were dunking in warm-ups and I walked by a UT assistant coach and I said like
That thing’s gonna fall I didn’t say it’s going to delay the game but we were joking around he’s like yeah someone might knock it off like obviously just kind of being like tongue cheek like I’m sure even if they’re not going to use the camera that it’s not going to fall
Well sure as [ __ ] about with about what maybe seven minutes left the game was in hand it was I think definitely under 10 minutes left the camera Falls almost like into the basket oh W so they had to delay the game for probably five to 10
Minutes run out a crew with the biggest ladder I’ve ever seen and essentially pull the camera off of there and I just you that was my only prediction that actually panned out for that game was before the game saying hey that camera is GNA fall I wish I was right about anything
That happened on the court yeah but that was just a funny tidbit that I thought if you were watching the game at home you probably noticed that or notice that there was a longer than normal delay I don’t I don’t know how that was was covered on the CBS
Broadcast so were you at the game on Monday night then the Kansas State game yeah I was at that game too much better ever by that Texas team actually it was a similarly ugly offensive Affair other than Dylan du Su doing a great job but you tell me if you notice this covering
The game on the floor watching on television it looked like Kansas State didn’t want to be there with the exception of Tyler Perry it looked like that team was just completely over this two- game Road Trip that saw them suffer a pretty heartbreaking defeat to TCU
Just a couple days prior I said to somebody in the in the media room I was just like you know because we all get in there we talk about the game talk about what what’ you see all that kind of stuff and a bunch of us are just like
That team’s not very good like credit Texas for having one of their worst shooting performances of the Season not a single starter in that game hit a three-point basket for Texas Trey wow not a single starter so that was yeah that was brutal to watch but again give Texas credit
Even if Kansas state is a team that I thought they would come out looking more desperate like hey we need to save our season they came out looking more like what you described the team that basically had given up on their season now I always one thing I hate doing is
Questioning effort but that was that was not a not a performance that uh you know looked like it was filled with effort and intensity from from Kansas State like you said Perry was Perry was getting after it um he was really the only reason they kind of stayed in that
Game and then and then I can’t remember his name but and then one one had a good game too and the two guys they brought to the podium after were disappointed in in in what happened you know but yeah it was it was pretty obvious that that they looked like they didn’t
Want to be there I agree all right well I’m glad I didn’t miss that one because that was not I don’t want to say uninspired effort by Texas it just wasn’t a very good game for them and you give Kansas State’s defense some credit for that they are
Metrics wise a good defensive team and it was just one of those fortunate nights where they played a team who either wanted it less or just somehow played even worse than that plus the Dylan duu Factor can help to uh negate a poor performance across the board for
The rest of that roster because he doesn’t really have any off nights at this point Max Asus actually has aight it’s been a weird two to three weeks for him by the way he’s had good scoring games but I feel like he’s been been more off than on tyres Hunter it felt
Like he was heading down the road of having a good game in the first half but ultimately his numbers were fairly pedestrian Dylan Mitchell did his typical thing I don’t know if Kendall Weaver was sick he played a surprisingly low number of minutes and he looked a
Little bit drained too I think he ended up with less than 20 minutes in the game so a guy like it Horton gets some more minutes and they’re encouraging him to shoot to try and find his shot now shedric get some time Brock Cunningham as well well but uh that roster pretty
Much stunk other than Dylan du but the DU Factor was enough at least against another five- seven team in conference yeah I still can’t get over that Brock and it Horton were the only two Longhorns that hit threes they only made three threes all game and they shot just under 16%
So again I think I think you got to give credit to a team that when you find away because as much as it looked like Kansas State didn’t want to be there that’s still a big 12 team that’s as much as they’re falling apart of late they’ve
Still won some games and we know that the old cliche is true in this conference that and we’ve seen it with Texas literally we’ve seen it in front of our eyes twice with the UCF loss and the West Virginia loss anybody can beat anybody any given night they they step
On the floor in big in Big 12 I mean ask Texas’s next opponent Kansas what happened when they went to Orlando to face UCF I’m sure they didn’t think they were gonna lose to to UCF now much worse for Texas doing that at home um but
Still to your point the Dylan Sue effect is is is real and I think if I’m going to continue to uh be glass half full guy with this team you have to look at what happened to Max ASI and say that you know assuming he figures it out if he’s
Gonna have a stretch like this during the season you would much rather it happen now and he figures it out and then gets hot come end of the season maybe it starts one of these next two games on the road where if you steal one
Of these two games it takes a ton of pressure off of you now to win the two games against unranked teams when you come back home against the Oklahoma schools because basically if you lose these next three Road games especially these next two against Tech and Kansas it makes those other two games
Essentially feel like almost must-win you know at least to leave it out of the committee’s hands and to kind of control your own destiny um so yeah hopefully they can get Max Asus going because if they can’t get Max going it get ugly quickly like it did against
Houston the other night yeah because he’s the only other reliable scorer that this team has right now Texas by the way is at the top of the bottom half of the Big 12 standings if that makes sense it’s six and seven they are tied for eighth in the conference as 14 team Big
12 Conference tied with Oklahoma of all teams who is their last opponent of the regular season before that conference tournament gets going in Kansas City and the last thing that you want to do if you’re Texas is I mentioned putting pressure on those two home games
To end the season you don’t want to put too much pressure on the Big 12 tournament now there’s nothing worse than being the team that says like man we gotta win two games in the Big 12 tournament or we can’t lose this first one like basically I know PE people say
You know teams will say oh we’re playing every game like it’s an NC NCAA Tournament game this type of year like yes you are but if you’re really doing that out of necessity right now that’s not a good thing and this Texas team is a couple more losses away from
Essentially by mandate if they want to make the NCAA tournament turning every game into a March Madness you know level of importance game yeah let’s see it is Friday which I believe means that Joe lenardi put out his latest Bracketology standings let me take a look at that real quick I think
They were the last time he had it updated they were an eight Jo lardy all right today at 9 a.m. top overall seed Purdue first team out Wake Forest last team in A&M they’re not on the bubble they are squarely in the tournament right now which shouldn’t be surprising they’ve
Hovered somewhere around 8 to 10 for the last uh last few weeks and lenardi this morning has them as an eight seed playing against Boise State in Salt Lake City in that Los Angeles quadrant of the bracket and if they were to win that game they would face number one
Arizona hey I watched the end of that Arizona game last night the Arizona Washington State game yeah I watched some of the most random basketball Trey like when I get home after these shows I can’t I don’t know if you’ve ever worked a really like late schedule oh yeah but
For me everyone’s different I can’t just like flip the switch when I get home having a little bit longer commute has helped a bit like I have to sit and like have a drink or something and and watch something before I just like go to bed I don’t
Know if it just because I’m wired and also the last thing that I do during the workday is the most important thing that I do during the work day so there’s a little bit of adrenal involved with that but anyway oh you’re saying actually putting putting the work onto the air at
The end of the night yeah like going and then like reporting with energy is arguably the most important part of the job it six and 10 and whatever other platforms I’m doing that on so the 10’s the last last part of it so yeah anyway
I come home and I get to watch random ass games like although it wasn’t that random it was a rank rank matchup but Arizona State or Arizona vers Washington state two really good teams awesome game but again it’s it’s not this isn’t even me saying something about Texas like this goes for
Every NCAA tournament but especially in this these last kind of five years of college basketball like if Arizona is going to be a one seed that is that is a very beatable team it’s a very good team Caleb love looked awesome last night that other big
Dude they have Balo whatever his name is he he looked awesome like I would hate to see Texas have to try to stop him but that is a beatable team I mean Washington state was ranked 21st in the country I think and they went to Arizona
And beat them so um you know and lonard is gonna switch it up every single time like I think the other one he had them the most recent one maybe they had them playing Purdue in a different or had them facing Purdue in a potential second
Round match up with the one seed so you never really know but um yeah I think the tournament’s fun even if you know you’re a Texas Fan and they’re going to be a SE anywhere from a seven to an 11 seed it seems like depending on how much
They potentially overachieve or slip the end of the year um I mean I think it’s fun knowing like yeah you could go beat a one like would I bet on it no but sure I mean it happened happened last year happened to Kansas last year it did I
You know just having watched this team play really good competition either on the road or at neutral site games this year and I know Oklahoma at the time was ranked they don’t really count though they’re in that uh they’re not in that last in category here in this bracket
But they’re sitting at the same record that Texas is in Big 12 standings right now but Yukon Marquette and uh the Houston game this last Saturday shows me that they are not ready for Prime Time against the best competition and especially teams that have really good big guys too like that
Is a problem for this team that is soly lacking on depth down low and that’s why tomorrow is going to be a great test for them and I talked with BK about this a little bit earlier this Kansas team obviously once again the cream of the
Crop in the Big 12 Hunter Dickinson one of the best uh big guys in college basketball much like Dylan du can do it from all three levels so the question for me tomorrow with whether Texas can hang with Kansas is what are they going to do defensively on Dickenson BK
Thought they would start with du Su on Dickinson which I think does make sense you have to be careful there because you don’t want him spending too much of his primary energy on the defensive end of the Court having to guard that dude that is leaving him drained on the other end
Because if they don’t have du Su going offensively as well as needing one or two other guys to get it going that’s going to be a big problem and likely lead to another blowout on the road so I’d probably like to see a fair amount of Dylan Mitchell on Dickinson with
Maybe Dylan du Su coming over on helps side defense at times because he’s been great in that role this year and I think one of one of the things that I said early on with you was and maybe it was a little too early when I jumped on this
But I thought a guy like zerich on yma would be getting more minutes at this point and you know clearly if Rodney thought he could help them win immediately like he would be playing more but he’s a guy where if he had developed at this point to where Rodney
Felt comfortable putting him out there for even 15 to 20 minutes that helps you against a Dickinson a KJ Adams you know if you have a guy down there that frankly I know we give Brock [ __ ] for this but can kind of just eat up some
Fouls like they don’t have to be hard fouls but just play a guy tough and not have to worry about putting him on the line and getting your second foul at the 13 minute Mark of the first half so not having a guy like that that they can
Immediately go to and Trust I think I think it’s been tough for this team but yeah I mean I I like your plan there I don’t maybe I haven’t even thought of a plan because after watching them against Houston I just don’t think they’re gonna
Win no they I I haven’t even like you and BK have have detailed the game plan for uh for Rodney and the staff way way more than I have that’s as deep as my game plan goes I think that it’s gonna be another one of those games where I
Can comfortably turn it off at the first commercial break of the second half much like last Saturday’s game and like I think again not to be ca and obvious but the last two games the way they’ve gone this game’s really just going to come down to early on like can they hit a
Freaking shot like they are just so frustrating to watch sometimes you know and then and then when they can’t hit a shot they can’t help themselves out like just missing the front ends of one in ones and I heard Rodney say this to Craig way
Yeah a after the game he even said he goes That’s a turnover missing the front end of a one andone is a freaking turnover and I love that like I hope he’s preaching that to the guys because look you’re gonna miss free throws here and there but man it’s just maddening
How many freaking front ends of one in ones I’ve seen them Miss and I think I can handle watching a team like if they go to Kansas tomorrow and they play really well or pretty well almost like the the the the BYU game might be a good
Example of that they went on the road to BYU they played pretty well and BYU shot their best shooting percentage of the entire season to that point I haven’t watched much of them since like that I think I can leave with and say you know what hey like could we have made a
Little closer sure but like we played pretty well they played their asses off they were at home they’re probably a better team at this point in the season all right but when you’re just not even giving yourself a chance to scare the other team put pressure on them in the
Second half which is what happened against Houston where there was a point in that game where I think it was 22 to 20 they missed two front ends of one and ones and Houston went down scored a two scored a three it was 2720 I looked at
The guy next to me I said the game’s over like the game is over because you can’t fall behind against them you can do that crap against TCU and come back and win again a tournament team a good road win for them but they can’t do that
Tomorrow so I think it does come down to Simply doing like making the little simple things not look insanely difficult doing those little simple things and then just shooting better because really if they don’t shoot better like none of this matters if they shoot anywhere close to the way they did
Against Kansas State it it just does not matter like they’re gonna lose that game by 40 yeah even if they lose tomorrow to see them start to figure some things out on offense is going to be huge for the stretch run of the season because right
Now now it’s the offensive side of the ball that gives you the most pause with whether this team can even make it past the first or second round of the NCAA tournament and even if asith gets something going should we’ve seen him step up and have a couple of those
Heroic efforts this year and he’s been great at end of game situations and has hit a handful of gamewinners as well teams with good perimeter Defenders are going to do what Houston did to him and what Kansas state did to him over these last couple of games they’re just going to smother him
They’re not going to give him any room to work and they’re going to make it really hard for him to get the basketball they’re going to frustrate him and force him to pass the ball off and when he does shoot he’s going to be shooting shots that he doesn’t
Necessarily want to take he’s got to stop with the Steph Curry three-point range threes by the way I know he’s hit a couple this year when you’re like he’s been missing those shots are a complete waste of a possession he he hasn’t been hitting them lately I agree I mean I’m fine with
That if he’s feeling it like he was feeling it against TCU and then the second one that he hit in that stretch during that game where I think he had like I think he finished the game scoring the last 13 points yeah but it
Was it was a nine or a 80 run no 90 run because he hit the layup three-point play free throw give him a three-point lead they got a stop he hit that ridiculous step back three then at that point he’s gotten them up six I’m like
Hey okay but no but to totally agree with you the way he’s been shooting now like that shot doesn’t need to be part of the offense until he starts to feel himself again and once once you hit two or three threes you’re like say let’s say three of four three of five maybe
Give me a heat check at that point but when you are struggling to get anything up and into the basket that’s that’s just it’s not helping anything it’s not helping your individual cause of trying to get your shot back on track and it’s not helping your team score points which
They’re having a really hard time doing because you’ve been so off and look Trey I’m getting tired man I’m getting tired I’ve been pounding the table for this team I’ve been I’ve been saying wait for it give him a a chance to gel and I just I’m getting tired I need something back
I need something back from the guys if I’m Gonna Keep pounding the table like I I need I need to see something I’m not saying that I’m ready to I’m ready to phone it in for him because again I think moral victories are [ __ ] I think we can all agree with
That no Texas program in any division one sport any Varsity level sport should be playing for moral victories H there are certain moments where you’re like on the road at Allen Fieldhouse like okay like again like I said just don’t like with the Houston game just don’t look like complete crap
Yeah and I think people and I think people will understand and say hey all right look you played well you got something to take with you to Tech on Tuesday night and let’s go from there oh boy that is GNA be hostile I’m glad they get this taste with Houston and
Kansas and they got it with TCU to because the most brutal away crowd they’re going to face all season long is waiting for them in LC next week that’s been the case for a couple of years now and even though Chris beard is no longer on the sidelines the Longhorns and I
Guess technically he was wasn’t for last year’s game either there’s no fan base that hates this Texas basketball team more in the Big 12 right now than those who root against the Longhorns in lck so they get one more chance to do that but Texas is a member of this conference
They’re going to pull out all the stops it’s gonna be horns down Galore hey maybe that helps Texas though because we’ve seen how this Texas team responds to Fan bases getting really belligerant with the horns down bit but we will also have time to talk about that game on
Monday before it happens the next day so we won’t get into it too much right now I I do think it’s I’m trying to think of a four game stretch road trip stretch that they could have put together for Texas that’s a worst combination for them with the the two
Factors being really good team really tough road atmosphere at a place in a school where they just want to beat the crap out a Texas one more time because Houston this was their only shot it wasn’t even like we want to get it one more time it was like this is our only
Shot I me the last time they had played was freaking CBI in like 2013 and then Kansas like again they’re basketball fans they’re going to go crazy against everybody I don’t know if it’s going to be like there will be horns down obviously like wherever they
Go but I don’t know if that one’s as specifically like the the DISD for Texas specifically is there but then the last two I mean two more top 25 teams like you what you said about tech and then Baylor’s the same way too in a brand new building they’re playing better lately I
Mean they’re I think a top 15 team in the country right now could there have been a more brutal four game stretch on the road for Texas than that I don’t know is the Baylor game the following Monday yeah because I think it’s I think the schedule goes Kansas tomorrow Tech on Tuesday
Oklahoma State on Saturday sounds and then I think Baylor’s yeah I think it’s big Monday at 8 pm and then they Clos yeah home yeah but Baylor on Monday March 4th and then Oklahoma at home at 1 p.m. that’s going to be squarely in the middle of me covering South by Southwest
The first week in of South by Southwest sorry Texas OU I am not going to be watching the last iteration of that in the Big 12 because I’m gonna be somewhere in downtown Austin at that time I’ll just brief you on it Monday
When we talk H you know what I can I can do some reading as well I can record the game and go back and blow through it and like basketball games are fun if you don’t have sports are fun actually if you don’t have to deal with commercial
Breaks you want to talk about a succinct process you can watch football games B you can get it all done in about an hour yeah we’ve talked about this with with the recording where remember I told you the Cowboys playoff game and the wife was like yeah no I’m not gonna pause it
And wait for you I have done that with basketball games she doesn’t care she doesn’t care she lets me do it with the basketball games where if it comes on at 11 and I haven’t left for work yet or even one you know I’ll pause it and then
I’ll just like watch the first half on like basically fast forward mode yeah oh stupid review of a play with 12 minutes left to go in the first half zo even like some of the possessions I’ll I’ll zip through yeah that plus 15 comes in really handy for replays for
Free throws by the way it’s like I’ll see what happened with the free throws I’ll click it a couple of times we’ll see whether there’s one or two points at it or maybe there’s zero points at it if it’s the Miss front end of one and one
Or two Miss free throws altogether yeah basketball is especially nice you don’t realize how much downtime there is and basketball until you have the option of for fast forwarding through some of it and I completely defend Jasmine too by the way on her refusal to uh wait for
You for the football game there’s just too many people yeah that are coming at you with what’s happening live and so you have to defend against that by also watching it live it’s truly one of the last things that we watch live together especially for especially for a playoff
Game too especially for a playoff game yeah regular season games less so for sure but I even understand it with regular season games too you know how unrelated you know how I know I’m I’m getting old like I was so pissed off about the front end of those one and
Ones like nothing made me more mad over the weekend than watching that they’re free points and I used to make fun of all the people in the crowd that would be like they’re free throws free and now I’m that guy I’m like I’m like the progressive becoming your parents commercial if
You’re going to miss one of two it needs to be the second one so that you at least get the uh that second opportunity yeah and then when I heard Rodney till Craig get a turnover yeah yeah that’s right that’s right yeah it’s it is a bit of a turnover I was
Going to try and argue against that but he is correct you had an opportunity an easy opportunity to score points and you came away with a zero Burger which is especially hurtful down the stretch in a game like they let Kansas State stay in that game on Mon day because they kept
Missing free throws there were two Miss free throws on one occasion there was another Miss front end on the other occasion and fortunately Tyler Perry tried to go herob ball on the other end that led to his coach just laying into him at one point with just under a
Minute left and that was pretty much it for Kansas State at that point but uh Texas they lucked out as we talked about at the beginning they were playing a team that seemingly wanted to be there a little bit less and even though wasn’t their best effort they were able to come
Away with the win and that’s ultimately what matters all year long but certainly uh once you get to the middle to end of February yeah for sure I mean we we’ve said it a bunch of times on this show when they go down later and review the
Resumés whether it’s you know Texas got hot late and it’s are they gonna be a six or a seven which they’d have to get really hot for that to happen well not really they’re an eight right now they’d have to win one or two of these games on
The road and then do well in the Big 12 tournament probably or if it’s the other end of they’re an 11 should we make them go to Dayton or should we send them to wherever else they’re not going to look and be like I can’t believe Kendall
Weaver missed those two free throws late they’re just gonna say hey beat a solid case date team who’s GNA get a you know one of the top seeds in the NIT like hey they beat him they won the game they’re gonna move on according to Joe lonardi the Big 12
Has nine teams in the tournament and is latest projections which is the most of any conference SEC has 8 and the next most after that is the Big 10 in Mountain West each with six so this is a gauntlet can I guess the Mountain West
Teams he has in do you have that up or no uh I do yeah that Colorado State oh wait a second ah boy this is gonna be difficult uh no let’s let’s go let’s go Colorado State okay check Utah state check NADA yes Utah state is an automatic
Qualifier too that’s interesting so they would win the conference tournament uh Nevada hold on I think Nevada’s probably in there Nevada yes they are 10 seed San Diego State yes they’re a four seed yeah I think I’m out of teams now four I don’t know who else is in the
M conference oh Boise State who they have oh yeah of course yeah Texas’s supposed matchup right now um gosh Guess That Mountain West Conference Team um that’s how you know it’s late February yeah right Colgate no Oakland no that’s that’s in uh Michigan Grand Canyon they’re not Mountain West are they Grand
Canyon I think they’re um West Coast okay uh New Mexico they’re Mountain West oh you said New Mexico didn’t you I didn’t no and is UC Irvine Mountain West St Mary’s no they’re U uh UC Irvine’s big West okay well we’re I’m done guessing Washington Washington State are they
Technically Mountain West yet no they’re they’re they’re hey they’re they’re top and Andor bottom of the barrel depending on on where you put him in the pack in the pack two yeah that’s true o how about the news this week out of Dallas where the college football playoff could be expanding before
They’ve ever actually expanded wait before that I have the Pack 12’s new motto yes or the pack two if you’re not first you’re last it’s it’s literally true never been a truer statement about the Pack 12 starting next year and then maybe it could be said even if
You’re first you’re still basically last because you’re in the Pack 12 because you’re in the pack two still oh yeah you got left behind by everybody else I mean even Ken Stanford found new homes albe it within a desperate ACC that is clinging on for dear life right now but
Is likely going to lose a legal battle with Florida state which will lead to the seminal leaving and any other school with value college football value that is leaving that conference as well which brings us to the meetings in the DFW area earlier this week where the college football playoff committee got
Together to figure out what the heck that they can do to keep the SEC and Big 10 as a part of the equation after the 2025 season these next two years starting this coming season 2024 we get that 12 team playoff they did vote to make it a five and seven Model Five
Automatic qualifiers seven at large bids which is a change from the six and six which is a direct result of the Pack 12 being in shambles and only having two members starting next season but there were also a lot of conversations about what they can do to
Hook the Big 10 and SEC up to keep them around after that and part of me wonders how much of that is bigton and SEC toying with these other teams these other conferences saying hey how about you give us four automatic qualifiers hey how about we get a uh slightly
Different rev share model going where we actually get more than you guys do even though we’re already getting more than what you guys do and unfortunately for those other conferences they can’t be too critical of any of these plans they just have to talk about working fast to
Try and figure something out because there is a pending contract with ESPN and the college football playoff that would begin in 2026 but nothing’s going to be signed until we know the future of the Big 10 in sec well and basically with this they’ve completely boxed a group of five out or
Group of group of whatever now group of everybody else I think that was a big takeaway from it too not that I expected anything different but this kind of to me officially signaled what a lot of people have said where we’re almost moving towards that NFL model where it’s
Basically going to be two conferences and I guess for a little while you could say yeah there could be a you know if a you Utah in the Big 12 next year or even in Arizona I don’t think they’ll do that Utah probably be more likely but if a
Utah is 10- two or 11 and one and they win the conference like they might they might get in then but I think these other like the group of five is almost going to need to figure out their own their own plan if they want postseason
Play I mean I I guess there’s still bowl games and things like that outside of the major bowl games but I mean they’re not even getting the throw throw one bone anymore well they get the they get the one bone for these next two years because scaling it back to five means
The four the power four conferences minus the Pack 12 plus that fifth conference and Washington State and Oregon State are going to try and argue well they can one of the two of those two teams can still be a conference champ and get that fifth automatic bid
But it’s likely going to go to one of those G5 conferences but they should be trembling and look I get it so so wait sorry so so I’m understanding you think they still like I thought this means like there’s no chance for Liberty because like so what are the four the
Four big conferences I guess or the four big conferences are Big 12 ACC Big 10 and SEC so those four will almost certainly get an automatic qualifier it’s not guaranteed it’s the highest ranked conference Champion I believe oh so it’s still so that’s how that would still kind of work in there I
Guess so the fifth would be whatever G5 Champion has the best ranking at the end of conference Championship weekend gotcha okay but those schools are all trembling as are ACC schools and Big 12 schools because they realize just like what you said where this is all headed I
Would argue even though it sucks not to be that top tier of college football that you’re going to be better off because you’re going to have an legitimate shot to win a National Championship in a given year in that second tier of college football once things reformulate we’re probably going
To get some sort of official announcement by the end of the summer I would imagine like the big wigs coming out of those meetings in Dallas a couple of days ago were saying we need to work fast we need to figure something out in the next month so there’s a good chance
By the spring game on April 20th that we know the SEC and Big 10 have decided to do something completely different versus what we’ll be seeing these next two years and it’ll be a bit of a reset with the big 10 in SEC being on the receiving
End of a ton of hate from these other conferences much like what we saw with Texas and Oklahoma these last couple of years with these other conferences being like [ __ ] you guys you guys are leaving us behind here you guys are too too good for us and this is [ __ ] you’re
Ruining college football as a result we’ll see college football is going to be very different but I think that in a lot of ways it’s going to make it better too yeah and I mean are we really going to miss these I know they’re going to I
Think they’re going to find a way to weave in bowl games and stuff still and call them call different games certain bowl games but these other bowl games like if they ever did something drastic and made the group of five kind of went their own Direction almost an FCS level
Like we were talking about would we really miss a lot of these games would we really miss these bowl games like I’ll watch them no matter what I don’t care obviously but I would rather watch a game a quarterfinal matchup or whatever many they did a round of 16 matchup between James
Madison and Louisiana I would rather watch that game with the stakes knowing that the stakes are hey all these guys are gonna play because they want to win this tournament or you know like you said they want to win a group of five National Championship or whatever it may be versus like
Yeah I think Louisiana’s best running back we saw so much of this this year which guys like half opting out like guys suiting up but then being I can’t remember what school it was there was a guy that suited up and was like well I’m only gonna play like 10 I’m only gonna
Have 10 carries and then he was like transferring to another school not even going to the draft was just like what is going on so at least something where we can match the landscape of the postseason in college football with the landscape of what’s actually happening the other
335 45 days out of the year you know besides the couple weeks that we have postseason going on or the month or two we have postseason games going on so I love my conversations with you because you think deeply about these things and that makes perfect sense to me that
Second tier can capitalize on a sort of regional proximity with these bowl games where it’s like the better seated team the game let’s just say let’s just say Baylor as an example Baylor is the better seated team in that second tier tournament well you’ve got a couple of
Bowl game options that they can maybe play in you’ve got the Texas Bowl you’ve got the Alamo Bowl you’ve got the Heart of Dallas Bowl First Responders Bowl the what First Responders Bowl oh is that that’s the one in Frisco isn’t it I I’m just throwing out random bowl games that
Are also in north Texas yeah there’s there’s a Frisco Bowl I feel like somebody got serial dumped on them in one of these bowl games but you can you can say hey this this game is going to be played here because it’s it’s a bowl game but it’s also this quarterfinal
Matchup where Baylor is going to get the advantage to the home team because they have more fans in this general area who can actually attend this game because let’s not act like by changing the structure of bowl season that we’re taking that we are going to take some
Huge attendance hit in the process nobody goes to most of these [ __ ] bowl games most of these bowl games are entirely too far away especially with guys opting out now there’s less of a desire to watch these games in person you’ll still watch it on television it’s still your team you want
To see some of these younger guys play and see what they can do with this new opportunity at hand but I think it get it lends itself to more buyin also if you have these teams at this second tier who are actually playing for a championship at the end of the year
Versus slogging their way through two to three weeks of Bowl practices before they play in the [ __ ] Heart of Texas Bowl up at Frisco I think something that gets confused or Twisted a little bit with college football fans is yes a lot of us are traditionalist in the way that we
Like our sport you know and that’s why a lot of people I’m not saying you were or I I was or anything like that but a lot of people are kind of adverse to change because they really enjoy the Traditions but at the same time college football fans love
Tradition but they also love games that matter like those Traditions don’t really matter if the games that they’re playing don’t matter and again if you wanna like love your point there of kind of regionalizing it more calling it something like if we want to call it the
Cheit bowl like look look we can still dump chits on the coach that wins chits or whoever Frosted Flakes whatever Tony the Tiger like Dukes Mayo sponsorships are great for everybody I mean it’s it creates more more money more revenue for the game obviously you know that in turn can mean
More more interest and you know a better atmosphere and those kind of things but yeah I think that gets twisted a little bit with college football fans is yeah a lot of us are traditionalists because that’s how that Sport’s always been it’s it’s you know unlike MLS or even NHL to
An extent it’s steeped in so much history yeah but also most of us are okay with it changing as long as it’s changing for the better and meaning that that we’re getting a better product the players on the field that are putting so much in the coaches that are putting so
Much in the administrative staff and all that the fans that are spending money everybody just wants more games that freaking matter like it’s not that complicated what people want at the end of the day but the NCAA has basically just gaslit everybody for their their entire existence into thinking that oh
No like everybody thinks that college athletes can’t make money off their name image and likeness you know they think that we’re still in that era where announcers talk like that like no no the average person doesn’t give a [ __ ] if Quinn ERS is in a whatever commercial I
Saw him on the other day for some lawyer you know or that was on during the season like we don’t care good for him get your money like no I think if all of this is the Catalyst for change that finally makes sense for everybody across
The board then I think we’re all on board yeah and by the way some of those stupid end of game gimmicks mean a little bit more too dumping Che it’ss on a coach or everybody eating the the edible poptart the winners getting eat the edible poptart at the end of the game and
Perhaps those sponsorship deals can actually put a little bit more money in the Winner’s Pockets too like if you participate you get a certain bonus that is paid for by that sponsorship and the winners getting even larger cut how about thinking about things like that since we are in this area era of
Nil so we can be a little bit more creative with these things hey speaking of EA Sports did you see this EA Sports their college football games coming back this summer I will be amongst the many who are going to pay 70 bucks for that game starting
My Texas Dynasty June or July whenever it comes out but ea uh it was announced what they’re giving pretty much everybody in college football to opt in to have their name image and likeness as part of the game did you hear what that was 600 bucks and then a copy of the
Game 600 bucks and a copy of the game now I didn’t realize this when I saw it initially and formed my my first opinion but there are some people up in arms that this isn’t enough so what do you think about 600 bucks plus a copy of the
Game so what’s enough like I think that’s a like okay if it has to go up later that’s fine but this is an unprecedented situation clearly yeah for the reasons for the same reasons that we haven’t had a game in what basically 10 or 11 years so so
$600 all you have to do is is opt in you basically just have to sign the paper sign the document they give you a $600 payment and then you get a copy of the game like I don’t really get it what else what else do you want and what else
Is being done with your name and your image and your likeness in the game that requires more money like I just don’t like if they okay if it should be double if it should be 12200 great I don’t care make it 12200 who cares but I don’t understand like why that why that
Wouldn’t be enough for players when you’re basically not doing anything and then how do we decide that like so like decidedly more people are going to play with Texas and Quinn ERS than are going to play with Texas State and whoever’s playing quarterback for them next year like there will be
Some people that do like I might be the sick mofo that that does play with a random ass team like that hey we all start that dynasty with that random that’s what I I did I do want to I have I have questions for you after that
Because I love talking about how people like people’s habits in playing the game but what did you think on on the $600 payment because again I don’t have a big issue if it needs to be more it needs to be more great but they’re not really like the players are not really doing
Anything for this they’re just agreeing and guess what if you don’t want $600 and you don’t want your name in the game then just say no like it’s not that complicated or trying and negotiate something better and by the way there will be endorsement deals being signed
By specific athletes too I think they announced the first wave Quinn ERS is one of those guys Carson Beck Travis Hunter is another one of those dudes is this like if you’re on the cover or something because that I understand cover guys and ambassadors I think they’re called game ambassadors and
There will be other game ambassadors too but for the average guy who plays who’s a backup defensive tackle at University of Buffalo that’s a sweet deal for you but the advocacy group the college football players Association they tweeted something out after the announcement that criticized the deal by
Saying the athletes of the second most popular sport in America are being treated like children that’s what they said here’s the problem with or there are a couple of problems with understanding the proper value for something like this one video game companies are notorious for not releasing how many copies of a game
They’ve sold especially on the sports side of things why is that uh it’s a great question he who controls the statistics controls the narrative one theory behind that but I guess I guess not giving us an opportunity to tell them that the game was more less popular than they thought yeah I mean
Exactly yeah you can’t say well wait a second we’re only getting this much on this game and you sold this many copies at 70 bucks a pop or oh wow you only sold this many copies of this game at 70 bucks a pop and how much did you put
Into the production paying people to participate whether it’s a sports game or something else we’re using voiceover actors but the other part of the equation here here that is a big issue is that there are significantly more college football players than there are players for the NFL let’s say for for
Madden football like it is significant it’s like 10x the number of NFL players that you have playing college football I think I read the estimate was 11,000 guys are gonna have an OP have an opportunity to opt in for this exactly it’s close to 11,000 guys I feel like
The number that I saw was just below that but yeah right around 11,000 guys so 600 for everybody is not a bad deal when you consider that that and a free video game too by the way and other guys will have opportunities to make more money as ambassadors for the game and
Yeah da is gonna have to be uh they’re just goingon to have to make smart decisions about who should be their ambassadors the guys that they think are going to be the best players in college football this year and I I think that is the ambassadors versus what everybody gets
Guys gals whatever the industry is getting more than somebody else because you have more value in this case to the game to the brand yeah you’ve earned that if you’re a Quinn ERS you’ve earned that with your play on the field and your popularity off of it like so yeah
If you want to become an ambassador and make more money off of that because they’ve deemed that for whatever reason makes sense in Quinn’s case that you would help them sell more copies of the game or get this word out to more people yes that’s that’s what happens in every
In every business there are people that make more money and people that make less money again you know you could argue in every place who deserves to make what money and some people are overpaid or underpaid obviously but in this case this is kind of just like basic capitalism like like you’re gonna
You’re gonna get paid what they think you’re worth right now and of course the game’s coming back for the first time in 10 or 11 years so there’s going to be some some Growing Pains like you said EA is probably going to go at the end of
The year they’re going to look at it and go why the hell did we make X player y player an ambassador like we need to be more careful and more selective with that or maybe they’ll say hey that was wildly popular we sold way more games in
Iowa City Iowa than we thought we were GNA sell because we had so and so at Iowa or at Iowa State you know like like pimping the game for us hey is his last year at Clemson Dr Pepper paid good money to have DJ OU Lal serve as their actual college football player
Ambassador other than the former Heisman Trophy winners who obviously have a different deal and that backfired on them in a major way to where he left Clemson after that year and transferred to Oregon State now he’s about to be the starting quarterback at Michigan State if I’m remembering correctly so there is
A little bit of a risk in bringing somebody aboard as an ambassador but that’s part of that capitalist ISC process you know right yeah I have no I have no issues with with what I read on that and again if they want to decide later that more more or less guys you
Know guys need to be paid more or less then then great we’ll we’ll cross that bridge and we get there but I guess the alternative to that The Devil’s Advocate to that is the guys you know the people fighting for more right now are probably saying like you can’t reopen the box
Once they say that this is what you get PA paid it is probably hard from their standpoint to all of a sudden say after the next year like we deserve so much more but you never know I don’t know I don’t know life is a constant negotiation and that’s a lesson that has
Really sunk in with me as the father of two very smart children a N9 and seven-year-old who are always negotiating on their own behalfs or on the behalf of their sibling as well but life is a negotiation I would like to see some Earnest reporting by EA in
Terms of how many games that they’re actually selling to help give us a better idea because until we know that number we just can’t know for sure and considering that they’re going to be paying almost 11,000 dudes 600 bucks plus a free copy of the game that seems
Pretty generous right now but we don’t know for sure until we see what those actual figures are for the return of the college football video game which is likely going to go well and Beyond whatever the final year worth of sales were for the game before it went away
Thanks to that Ed oanon lawsuit would be I’d be lying if I said I truly knew the the scope of you know popularity and reach of some non-sports video games some of the more popular ones but I feel pretty confident in agreeing with you on that point of this
Game is I feel like it’s it’s got It’s got to break some records definitely within Sports video games because of the place that it held in the hearts of so many college football fans because of how long it’s been gone and off the shelves and now because it’s coming back
I mean just this morning even the last couple days I’ve texted one of my buddies one of my best friends I mean we text a decent amount about other stuff we’ve texted more in the last couple days just randomly talking about NCAA than than we have previously where
Maybe if it was like once a week or once every couple weeks we’d text each other you know a stupid tweet or send each other something on Instagram like multiple days in a row on end like funny tweet that we saw somebody talking about um you know what they’re going to do
When like me when NCAA comes out or whatever sending each other stuff like that he actually still plays the game ncaa14 which I think is incredible I sense have lost my console or whatever PS2 whatever I had it on where I could actually play so I haven’t played it in
Years but but yeah like people are talking about this non-stop the anticipation for this is is off the charts it’s it’s pop culture it’s Sports pop culture is what it’s become which I don’t know if you had something else you wanted to you wanted to add add to that
But I do I do have a couple of uh questions for you and your your uh EA Sports college football habits yeah real quick because this is probably going to play into some of the questions you have too the most impressive slash sickest person when it comes to playing the old college
Football video games is Kevin Dunn who still plays the I think it’s the 2006 version of the game it’s it would would have been B last year the year that Texas won the National Championship he plays on a PS2 what a sicko that’s amazing he plays
With 10 different teams at once he has re he has constructed every roster what giving guys their proper names they already have their proper numbers of course which is part of that lawsuit with their proper names enhancing or decreasing their abilities based based on what they were in actuality in his
Opinion versus how a ea ranked them and he will literally go through every week simulating games until he gets the right matchups to get the outcomes that he needs at the end of the season and then he gets into the offseason and it gets even sicker because I mean he’s got
Notebooks of notes with um on like various elements of recruits that he’s trying to go after so like for him to complete a season I feel like is a decade long process it is like I said it’s impressive and scary at the same time and I I have some fun with them
Whenever the topic of college football comes up on the Tuesday Thursday show so what were the questions that you had for me wait wait real quick question about that so he’s so he’s fired up about this right or is he so locked into this that
He’s just like I don’t need this game so he he uh he started a new job several months ago that is taking up a lot of his time and he hasn’t been playing a ton of the college football game recently he’s just gotten back into it
But because you have to get the PS4 I think in order to play this game or an Xbox and we have the Xbox here in our household he’s like I don’t know if I want to buy an entirely new game system I may just continue playing my 2006
Version of the game and just be happy with that I think you need the new I think you need a PS5 or or a new Xbox wait is there a new Xbox yeah like that’s the new one that I got to upgrade because I wanted to be ready for this
Game and then also wanted to just play with better graphics and finally was just done with my PS4 yeah wow the PS4 was that far behind um it wasn’t crazy far behind but I definitely haven’t missed it now that I invested in the in the Xbox but the
Xbox that I got is the All Digital one so it was I got it on on sale right after New Year’s like on Amazon it was like a $325 uh console that I think I got for like 275 and It’s All Digital but that’s all I was doing with the games anyway before
Was because even when I had the PS4 I would go get whatever game when I would buy the actual hard copy and you would put it in and then it still had to download like that’s what was driving me crazy so I was like well why am I going
To GameStop or Walmart Target and buying this when I could just download it directly on there so then that’s why I said I finally said all right I’ll just go get this other one the only thing is the storage if you’re a total Video Game Nerd you already know this stuff but but
Yeah the storage is much less on that one but right now I only play two games I play Madden or I play the EA Sports PGA Tour game oh I bet the golf I bet the golf game is sweet on Modern uh modern game modern consoles it’s awesome
I can’t help but feel like the biggest freaking loser every time I play it though like I’m sitting in my living room like I got to get up and down for par like can I get this up and down for par like like nothing makes you more mad
Than missing the green with a wedge in real life now do it in a freaking video game and you’ll want to break everything close to you in your home I promise but no it’s it it’s super fun um but yeah that’s why I got it was because I wanted
To be ready for when NCAA came out I also wanted new graphics and then I also really wanted to play the golf game because I could only play it on nextg console so I assume they’re gonna I mean maybe they’ll make a couple they’ll make PS4 Xbox One copies but I would imagine
It’s it’s probably gonna be nextg only I may have to get the golf game I used to love golf games on like Sega Genesis and Nintendo 64 much like with soccer games even though I don’t like watching soccer in real life I like watching golf a
Little bit more than soccer uh i’ never cared much to play those things or haven’t been good enough to enjoy enjoy playing them but I love playing them on video games so is it Tiger Woods Golf is it just PGA Tour what’s the game called so there’s two games there’s there’s a
2K 2K makes one and then EA makes one they call the road to the Masters I like that one because I I hear the gamepl is pretty good in both but I like that one because you can do career mode and because it’s more like linked with the
PGA Tour they have the license for all the majors and for a bunch of the other tournaments and stuff like that so you can actually play Augusta National you can play way more of the big tournaments in big courses wow and they have all the courses too don’t they so you can play
Pebble Beach you can go over and play the open yeah they have some yeah there’s I can’t remember there’s some like smaller tournaments that maybe they don’t have like a license for but but yeah all the big ones were if you’re just like a casual golf fan TPC
Scottdale Pebble Beach and then it’s all the majors all the courses for the majors the ones that switch are the ones from last year so like it’s La Country Club I can’t remember where they played the open obviously somewhere uh in Europe and then uh PGA God where was it
PGA You’ think I would know that being the sicko that I am I would remember that off the top of my head but anyway yeah they have they have all those courses like as a big golf fan there’s definitely no course I’ve been like man
I wish I could play this they even have some random ass ones in like uh they have the B golf course in B Canada one in France that they played the women’s one of the women’s majors at last year um they’ve got banded Dunes they have Austin Country Club for Dell match play
No no they don’t have Dell match play on there unfortunately that would be pretty cool especially for Austin people so yeah there’s a few like that where they don’t have the license for the tournament or maybe they just didn’t put it on there because they knew it was
Going to go away okay so you’re GNA ask me some questions about my college football game playing uh abilities or proclivities before that I need to let you know the only game I play right now is FIFA that’s it okay I just play the soccer game right now but I will play
The college football game we have Madden and this is my concern with the college football game Madden has gotten so complicated that it’s just hard for me to play that game because I I the levels the game play is complicated or the or all the other stuff that you have to do
To have a Dynasty uh the game play there’s just there’s too many buttons God I hate to be such an old guy with that complaint but it’s true I’m used to the old school Nintendo or Sega Genesis or yes even the uh the PlayStation controller the Xbox controller just has
Too many damn buttons for football I just need it to to be much more simplified but anyhow continue fire away so basically a two-part question are you a are you a one Dynasty kind of guy and do you start the dynasty from the round up like do you go
To do you take the do you take the gig at Troy or Georgia State Coastal Carolina Texas State and then work your way up uh it it varies the first time I probably will start with the Texas Dynasty and Texas is going to be pretty good so that that’ll be a cheat but
After playing a couple of years I will want start to start something from the ground up and I always like or at least back in the day I always liked playing at schools that could put decals on the helmet as guys did things throughout the year so you could see the uh the
Stickers all over the helmets once you get later in the year teams that I would play with from time to time Georgia get this this would have been back in 2002 2003 I believe whatever the cover where Joey Harrington was on the the uh the case yeah oh man Georgia you would get
The bones on the back of the helmet Oklahoma state had that deal I don’t think I ever played with Ohio State I would play with some other shitty Big 12 schools like I feel like we had a dynasty with Kansas played with Wyoming one year played with Buffalo I think for
A little bit Yeah so mix and match a little bit I’ll usually run a dynasty with the school for three to four years whatever it takes to get to National Championship level win that championship and then move to the next school that’s basically what I do but I have a pretty
I have a pretty clear-cut two Dynasty system so I have the one where kind of like you said immediately I’ll start like probably USC like I’ll pick one of the Blue Bloods but typically USC or Texas Texas will be more fun I think than USC this year just because just
Because their roster um at least early on you would think they’re gonna definitely be a better team but I’ll I’ll do that right away I’ll do the one where I’m just like depends on what kind of mood I’m in if I’m not in the mood to like you know play Conference USA
Football games like whenever I’m playing I’ll do the Texas Dynasty but then I’ll have the second grinded out Dynasty depending on like that’s more like if I have more time or just whatever I’m feeling that day so my go-to in NCAA 14 was UTEP I would start the dynasty at
UTP so I’m like who’s ever won anything there and I think I won like an orange bowl at UTEP or something and um maybe like you know mess with a couple of the ratings on a few of my players but you know found a quarterback convinced him
To stay created recruits that was always fun back in the day too I would just create like seven awesome quarterbacks from El Paso and then hope that like two of them would come to my school but that’s why I love this game so much is the amount of just like like
What you told me about Kevin Dunn like makes me look like nothing but the the depths of just I’ll even I’ll even go as far as basically calling it degeneracy with people the depths of De gen that people will go to have fun playing this game is like pretty ridiculous and the
Game facilitates that being college football and how many different teams there are I guess FIFA would be the only thing that would come close where you could go to a random ass country and like pick like the worst team in like Portugal’s top League or something like
That you know I used to do well I do a version of that now you have to be careful because if you’re at the higher levels on FIFA you’ll get [ __ ] boat raced if you have a team that’s too bad like all your guys suck they can’t pass
Well they don’t outrun anybody and so uh there’s there’s a balance to be struck but on the old school Nintendo I think it was Nintendo 64 uh FIFA game I would always use Qatar because Qatar was like the Far and Away the worst team of all the countries offered up in that game
Right and find ways to win and it that was that was when the game play was simple enough that there were hacks that you could do to get get through and to to be able to win that game by the way the underrated element of the college football game is recruiting season that
Is so much fun getting to recruit guys and it happens it happens during the season two doesn’t it trying to remember now yeah like you’ll have guys like from what I remember in 14 like I don’t know how detailed this new game will be um but you would have guys like you’d say
Oh so and so’s on campus for a visit and you could get guys to commit in the middle of the year and there’d be little tells that they would put in like the profile when you went into the recruiting Tab and that kind of stuff but what other the other question was
Are there any features that you or like anybody you know that loves this game is dying to see when the game comes out because I think there’s some obvious ones we’ve seen we’ve seen a lot of the talent we know like ree Davis and Fowler and Herb Street there’s gonna be a game
Day college game day aspect to it that’s kind of been hinted at and I think even released within the last couple days but and I’m sure there’ll be a portal element to it maybe an nil element I don’t know but is there one or two features are there one or two features
That you’re like oh this would be awesome if they throw in but that maybe are a little under the radar yeah portal is going to be interesting they will definitely they’ll have to include that they have to get that right that is a part of college football now you guys
Got the recruiting thing pretty good get the portal thing right too and it’s gonna be like a recruiting your own roster type of thing probably yeah I gosh I forget if I feel like this is mostly a part of the Madden game but I I’m guessing they
Probably put it in the college game before it was all said and done I hope they do some level of like Spring ball and fall ball that allows you to like go run through drills to like get plus points for your guys at various positions with various traits let’s say
Like I used to love to do the uh the pocket presence drill on a Madden game and like drill drills like that like the Oklahoma drill too like you can do those on the current Madden game I hope they do some like some sort of spring football type of element on this
Upcoming game those are a fine line for me because if they’re fun and they’re quick which those were for the most part then I’m I’m game for those and as long as they’re at like important positions like I don’t want to do offensive line drills when I’m like playing for fun but
Yeah if you could do like like a seven on seven spring type thing and like you know your quarterback and receivers could get chemistry points for that or up you know upgraded points yeah that would be that would be pretty cool um I’ll say the one I don’t know how they
Would do this because it’s not exactly uniform across like all of college football but the collectives like could could there be could there be a tie in with like hey you started a school you have a collective or you have the ear of the people that are donating to the
Collective the donors and those kind of things and you almost have to like in Madden with the the salary cap you almost have to like assign nil portions to certain guys and it almost becomes like a salary cap but with the collective oh now it’s like call Quinn
ERS is getting 12% of our Collective Xavier Worthy is getting 4% but like jonte cook is getting 1% but now Jon Xavier’s gone and Jon cook like tears it up through four games now like will jonte or somebody come into your office and be like yo coach like I need more
Money from the collective or I’m out after this season like that could be too much for some people but for me that would be that would be fun where you’re almost managing a salary cap but in the form of nil so I’ve never played Madden or I haven’t played Madden Dynasty mode
In more recent times including this year’s game is managing the salary cap a part of Dynasty mode in Madden yeah yeah so they know how to do that now then yes there should be a version of that in this college football game that’s a a
Great call so the way it goes with this with within and Madden just quickly is like like you take like you take over the Raiders and the salary cap is what it is the contracts like it’s it’s pretty detailed you it shows you when you go into negotiate with guys it’ll
Tell you at the beginning of the Season like you can negotiate midseason they definitely dumb it down a little bit like thankfully but it’ll say four it’s week two four guys are ready to renegotiate their contracts and then you basically have to look at your roster
And go like I don’t want to pay this this 31-year-old with this level of production at defensive end wants this I don’t really want to pay him that but but like I have nobody else behind him so maybe I need to give him a one-year deal well he doesn’t want a one-year
Deal then you like kind of super basic negotiating over a couple weeks or you can just say like I don’t want to sign this guy or you just like offer it up and then they accept it immediately you know like they do it pretty userfriendly
And I think you can even put on and I’m sure there’ll be an option for this too like you said they know how to do it they should be able ble to put in features like that and they also can put in like Auto like Auto Sim this or
Whatever it may be like I don’t want to deal with this I just want to play whatever happens in my roster happens in my roster I just want to play the games oh you know I’m sure you can do that because there’s like Auto player progression there’s all kinds of things
In Madden that like roster moves like I don’t make the cuts to like the last guys on my roster I just tell them make my roster 52 guys and let’s move on okay speaking of that I got an email earlier this week I think it’s an email list
That pretty much every Sports media person is on in this entire country from Jimmy Shapiro and it’s NFL next team lines for free agents and trade candidates you want to go through some of these and guess which team a player might be on if he doesn’t resign with his current team
So are you just GNA throw out a player to me basically I’m supposed to guess like what the odds are on his next team uh maybe not yeah guess guess who the team is I’m not going to ask you to guess the odds because that’s uh that
Would that would be way too nuanced but uh we’ll start because there’s a big list of uh of free agents coming up this off season and some fascinating moves to be made too so Austin Eckler is the first name on this list if he decides not to resign with the LA
Chargers who does he end up with next oh man would like be on there maybe he’s a Colorado guy oh I like the thinking there Denver is tied for third so good call the top three teams including the other tied for third team Baltimore Ravens gez that wouldn’t be fair Philadelphia
Eagles Chicago Bears and Denver Broncos yeah are the I’ve seen the I haven’t seen this list that you have but I’ve seen it with uh Josh Jacobs is who I saw with obviously giving the Raiders interest for me I don’t know if you were
Going to go to were you gon to go to him next yeah let’s go to him next okay well the Eagles were on were on his list too I thought DeAndre Swift played really well last year I don’t know if there’s there’s some contract details I don’t
Know about or something going on that I’m I’m not aware of but I just thought it was interesting that the people that make these odds Vegas whoever they clearly think the Eagles are going to be in the market for a bigname running back so he he the Eagles are low on the Josh
Jacobs list okay I don’t know who I would value more at this point I feel like Jacobs is younger so that probably gives him some inherent value but Josh Jacobs next teams if not the Raiders there are three F excuse me five teams in single digit odds the
Chargers funny enough the Ravens again I guess they’re going to be in the market for a running back the Texans the Cowboys and the Giants yeah I I think uh Jacob would be great for the Cowboys because they need I mean I don’t know if you would be able to keep Tony Pard
Around as well but the Cowboys I think it was pretty obvious last year they need a an every down back yeah that offense really functions best within every down back or if Tony Pard is gonna be a big piece of your offense which is fine you do need at least need a really
Good back who can run between the tackles and Jacobs is a back who can do everything didn’t have his best year this past year but you know before that won the NFL rushing title so yeah Cowboys are an interesting option with the Texans I’m I don’t know
I just I just I’m not sure that would be the first place that I would go after what happened this season to improve that roster like I just think you could there’s if you’re gonna pay Josh Jacobs and maybe not a ton of money but he’s
Gonna be if he goes to one of these teams he’s going to be one of the higher paid running backs in the league most likely hey speaking of Tony parul he is also on this list okay if not with the Cowboys there are six teams any guesses the Texans no
Not Eagles again yeah what like are is is Swift anywhere with Swift in this email uh Swift is not in this email I don’t understand what’s going on here and the eagles they don’t go crazy with spinning on running backs either by the way G GNA be a free agent after this
Year is that maybe part of the reason why this I guess Swift swift must be a you said gainwell but I don’t but I don’t even think with gainwell with his production the past few years and kind of being more of just a I don’t want to
Call him like a gadget guy but you know a definitely a rle player not a featured back I don’t think he would Garner a ton of money but I guess Swift Swift’s rookie deal that he had with the Lions must be ending because otherwise like I would think that they would just keep
Swift around but that this must be because his contract’s ending and they’re going to let him walk but but yeah they don’t seem that likely to pay for a big name back I mean they let my Sanders go so that they could you know trade what a fourth or a fifth round
Pick they traded a late round pick for Swift but his rookie deal his rookie deal must be ending that’s that’s what it is I’m looking at sport track right now and he is a free agent he is a free agent this year so that’s why okay
Eagles may be in on some of these guys got next team the Eagles the Bears the Titans who are likely going to be moving on from Derrik Henry the Ravens what’s that I was gonna guess the Titans how D do we have Derrick Henry odds yes we do Cowboys have got to be
Number one on that no they are number two oh number one is Philadelphia Eagles by the way the number one is who the Chargers nope the Baltimore Ravens again see I because I think I think the Chargers would be in the market because of you know Harbaugh family football it all
Starts with the Run game even their offensive coordinator I saw a headline he was asked about helping Herbert or what do they need to do with Herbert and his answer was run the ball yeah which is probably a really good answer it’s clearly worked for Harbaugh wherever
He’s been both the Harbaugh was the OB obvious answer with that Austin Eckler though like I I don’t know maybe there’s a decline there where maybe they’re just not willing to pay him whatever the the market value is going to be for a guy that is I guess probably still relatively young
And you know and produced well while he was there but I think I mean Eckler’s great but I think Harbaugh wants a big physical Runner that’s why I was like I think Josh Jacobs not that he’s big but he’s a very phys physical Runner he is a
True he’s just a true like like allaround back and I think uh saquon Barkley’s been mixed in there too I know he’s more of a speed and lateral quickness agility guy um but he’s tough too man I mean I know he’s had the injury history but when he’s healthy He
He’ll lower shoulder on a guy he he’ll run between the tackles there was a I don’t want to call it a significant decline it was a decline though this last year statistically wasn’t as good Eckler right yeah played in 14 of 17 games after playing a full season in the
Two previous years this is also last year was his age 28 year too so he is rounding the corner to 30 as talk I think that just is going to depend on how willing his people are to negotiate and I I get it if I’m the
Chargers I don’t want to hand that guy a blank check no but if he wants to take if he wants to take a two-year deal at you know a modest hit to the cap then we can talk one of the best running backs in the NFL when he can stay healthy saquan
Barkley Chargers he’s not on the New York Giants and the Giants may very well franchise him again but if he’s not on the Giants there are three teams in single digit odds Chargers they’re number three Cowboys uh Cowboys are not on this list which is a little bit surprising how
About the top team being the Texans wow followed by the Bears then the Chargers Patriots and Ravens Patriots I don’t think he’s gonna sign with the Patriots but I don’t know maybe he’s just all if he’s all about that coin and they’re gonna give it to him then who
Knows I love gerro mayo and he he came out like in his press his opening press conference or maybe it was like a I think it was a radio hit like the week he took the job he said we’re ready to burn some cash like if that’s not not the anti
Bellich then I don’t know what is which is funny coming from a guy that they basically called like mini bellich or bich Jr oh has he gotten that moniker I had not heard that uh yeah yeah just because I mean he spent his entire literally spent his entire playing
Career and coaching career there I believe his entire playing career too um yeah so a lot of people compared you know maybe not necessarily the relationships with the players but kind of some of the demeanor and the work ethic to on what they saw with belich
All right let’s move on to some wide receivers now again this these are odds for upcoming free agents assuming they don’t resign with their current team gonna go to the wide receiver category now and really hurt some feelings here Mike Evans uh there are six teams in single
Digit odds to sign Mike Evans if he doesn’t return to Tampa any guesses on number one this is gonna hurt your feelings hurt my feelings the Raiders no I was like that would that would oh gosh um I don’t know Kansas City oh yeah that’s what I was like trying to figure
Out why it would hurt my feelings but yeah yeah that would definitely hurt my feelings Kansas City followed by the Jets okay the Bears The Panthers the bills and the Texans the Bears would make sense well I was going to say for him he might be ring chasing he already got
That so he might just be cash chasing at this point oh yeah that’s right he did get the ring yeah I don’t know maybe maybe he would go to the Jets or somewhere like that the only other wide receiver I care about because Calvin Ridley’s on this
List too we’re gonna go to Michael Pitman who I think is going to be the best free agent wide receiver in this this class assuming he doesn’t return to Indie I was goingon to say they should make a real effort to oh bring him back yes they should but there are five teams
In single digit odds the Titans the Cardinals the Chiefs oh my God Michael Pitman on the Chiefs would be a problem for everybody else the Jets again and Tampa yeah I I I don’t want to see him in Kansas City no I mean that’s what’s crazy about how quickly Kansas City
Might reload I don’t know if they’ll go get a guy reloaded receiver after all the drop issues and those kind of things but I’m not going to put it past Brett V to pull just an ultimate power move and go get a guy like Pitman or
Evans uh I don’t know if it’ll be a team friendly deal or however they’ll make it happen and then also use one of their early picks on a receiver that inevitably because he’s super talented and playing with Patrick Mahomes becomes an absolute star again yeah I think
That’s an underrated part of the I know we’re talking about free agency but that’s an underrated part of the the draft process for really good teams that consistently make good decisions in the draft and develop guys is you can take more chances on guys later in the draft and not necessarily not necessarily
Worry about it not working out and then if you do hit a few like I don’t know exactly where the Chiefs got like McDuffy like where’d they get McDuffy and sne in the draft I mean I I’ll look at it but like that’s that’s that’s when
You start getting to like a real Dynasty level is you’re finding guys like that on the defensive side of the ball and you know the later rounds hold on one sec Jeff yes I’m broadcasting right now what’s going on oh okay this is not a good time to
Interrupt me during the show to ask if you can go play with somebody I’d like you to pass a note through the doors please and I’ll either say yes or no thank you you can go play with them yes oh boy sorry about that they know the rules and they will be
Punished accordingly no dinner for them tonight Jeff uh who are you asking about on the the Chiefs roster lerus Sneed Sneed was the steal MC McDuffy was a first round pick I remember one of those guys was a total steal but yeah like Sneed was a 2020
Fourth round pick damn God I don’t know I don’t know if they’ll keep him around much longer because I I mean 2020 I’m sure the rookie contract’s coming up and he’s going to understandably want to be paid yeah all right there’s one quarterback there’s there’s a couple of quarterbacks amongst free agents but
There’s only one quarterback that I think really matters that’s Kirk Cousins if he doesn’t resign with the Vikings there are four teams that are going to be jockeying for his Services Atlanta yep that’s one two to one odds yeah that’s they’re gonna go get somebody I mean I’m trying to think of a
What the Titans no bronos Patriots and Saints are the other three teams but the Saints just restructure David um not David Carr Derek Carr’s contract so that’s unlikely congrats guys yeah good job congrats on ah God you’re gonna love you’re gonna love him you’re gonna love him congrats on
Mediocrity all right moving on to trade possibilities for guys if they don’t stay with their current teams let’s go to Justin field since he’s the most obvious name out there right now one of the biggest n offseason storylines Justin Fields do the Bears trade him do they keep him for a year
And draft Caleb Williams let Caleb Williams sit probably not but if Justin Fields does not end up on the Chicago Bears next year Vegas thinks he’s gonna go to one of two teams and I think either is pretty easy to guess Falcons and Steelers that’s it yeah Falcons are
Four to five by the way Steelers are seven to four so yeah good odds for both of those teams how about Russell Wilson oh man I can’t can’t believe there are four teams four teams with single digit odds for I’m gonna tell you what the Raiders yeah they’re the second second
Best I’m not I’m not as mad about it I wouldn’t be as mad about it if it happened as as you think I would be oh you’ve already accepted this well look your options at quarterback right now are awful so yeah you should be happy about that upgade I was talking to Buddy
Who’s a Raiders fan the other day and I threw out fields and Wilson you could go in two completely different directions but I saw enough from Aiden oconnell to know that he can be a he can be a nice player and a good quarterback in this league like I’m not comparing Styles but
He could be a Colt McCoy a Case Keenum you know a journeyman very competent good enough to win you a few games if the circumstances are right backup quarterback but I think especially given where he was picked those guys if they’re going to be studs and their late round picks they usually
Flash pretty quick like you usually see something pretty early on and and again I’m not biased that’s a pretty good team around him like I mean he’s got a Hall of Fame receiver and had Josh Jacobs behind him the offensive Line’s okay like the defense was solid so pretty
Good team around him obviously a little bit of chaos with the McDaniels thing but yeah I would be open to Wilson or to fields or who knows maybe we I think Raiders are picking 16 or no 13 maybe or something like that okay I think they’re picking fairly early so if
The right quarterback Falls then then doing that I think those are three viable options right there because kind of what you were just about to say like what what are the other options and they’re one of the few teams that have a competent T semi-talented roster that I don’t think can win a
Super Bowl now but can at least compete so you know I I wouldn’t mind cousins either I just don’t know if that that would work out cap wise and and if he want would want to leave Minnesota to come to Vegas I know a Kurt Cousins move
If you get cousins and he’s probably going to require a multi-year deal you get cousins with the ability to cut him after year one and draft a quarterback at 12 or 13 wherever you guys are yeah and like let’s say they go Russ I saw something today that said he could
Be released within the next few weeks so whatever that entails with them having to take the dead cap hit pay a portion of the salary if you could get Russ on a basically a discount and he’s now been twice humbled yeah and bring him to Vegas like I think that’s a pretty good
Move I mean I’m not saying I’m not saying we’re beating the Chiefs twice and winning the Super Bowl but I think that’s a competitive move would you be okay with the Raiders getting rid of Devonte Adams because he is on the list of guys who may be
Traded well now I wouldn’t love getting Russell Russell Wilson as much if he can’t throw it to Devonte Adams that’s so true I’m like well and even Fields I feel the same way about either guy now I’m like well do I want to bring fields in if he can’t throw it
To Devonte Adams and Josh Jacobs is supposedly gonna be with the Texans yeah oh man I’m so upset that Josh McDaniel just blew it not that that team was gonna win a Super Bowl this last year but the fact that you guys had to deal with him as a head coach is damn
Shame if Devonte Adams ends up getting traded away from the Raiders nobody should be surprised that he will likely end up with the Jets according to Vegas great good for them good for him good for Aaron and then there’s Stefan Diggs who I would not be surprised at
All to see the Bills trade him this offseason they want to go through another full offseason another full year with that guy in his distractions Vegas might agree with me because they have five teams jockeying in those single digit odds for Stefan Diggs Services next season and Beyond starting with the
Dallas Cowboys oh they’re number number one number one are the Texans too no the Texans are down the list a little bit actually it’s okay Cowboys the Packers the Saints the Chiefs and the Chargers man that’s interesting you get one good year of Stefan Diggs before he starts
Causing problems and by the way if season one doesn’t go very good for him it problems could exist in year one too just be careful because he’s nearing that point we’re gonna see a skill decline now him reing with his brother I guess would be a cool story for Cowboys
Fans and for the NFL but I would uh I would be very cautious with what I’m willing to give up to get Stefan Diggs from the bills if that ultimately happens agreed I don’t I don’t know if that’s really worth going and getting um or like I I’ll say for the
Cowboys you already have cidi lamb I I don’t know if that’s worth that and then I was going to say for the Chiefs or somebody body else that’s already won the Super Bowl or a proven winner at this point I mean that’s basically what Buffalo is yeah I don’t think it’s I
Don’t think it’s worth it like with like you said you you made the perfect point the perfect caveat in there with the likelihood of a skill decline sooner rather than later if this was 24 year old like when Buffalo traded for him I think was the perfect time to trade for
Him you got him in his prime you were like hey dealing with this crap is worth it we haven’t had a true we haven’t had a stud receiver like that for Josh Allen yet so get him that and then we’ll go from there but yeah at
This at this point at this age for him again with the decline likely in the near future I don’t think it’s worth the Chiefs bringing him in and then him I don’t know maybe he wouldn’t start [ __ ] with Mahomes but just even bringing that possibility into play I’m not I’m not
Sure I’m crazy about it’s the diva wide receiver Matrix it is it’s some point the skill level does not outweigh all of the obnoxious distractions off the field and and he he may be nearing that point More Than People realize because his production wasn’t absent but it wasn’t
Nearly what it should have been for a number one wide receiver in the second half of the year for the bills the guy didn’t have a 100 yard receiving game beyond the end of October last year I was I was done maybe this is too harsh and two you know one track mine
Whatever you want to call it I was done after he didn’t catch that pass against the Chiefs a really difficult catch but with the amount of complaining he’s done the amount of little tirades he’s thrown on the sideline a couple of those one of those two of those is okay
I like I do I am also the guy that says I like guys that show they care but there is a certain line to walk with that where it does just become a distraction and then some of the cryptic crap in the off season and all that
Stuff it’s like some of the stuff that became headlines which isn’t always guy’s Fault In some cases but I think in this case was was self-induced for him Ju Just becomes a situation where you’re like this you know you need to make that play you need to make that play If
You’re Gonna raise raise a little hell every now and then did your room just get darker um a little bit of light here I was the the the color has just been a real struggle in here today I don’t know if it say blue shirt like now I just look orange
Now I really am you got a A Trump tone to you right now I guess I guess that’s I don’t know let’s just go with that all right we we’re going with this the rest of the way but I think it’s the light blue shirt and the burnt orange background and then
Whatever the light was at just not not not getting along great because I I haven’t messed with it in like an hour and a half and now you’re and now you’re in a kung fu movie because your uh your words are not matching what your mouth is
Doing well I’m using the computer camera here oh boy all right well uh okay anything non sports related that you wanted to get to this week because otherwise I’ve got a uh a notebook dump to uh to fo upon you and the people at the end of today’s
Show no or any related stuff too I have not asked you that so anything that we haven’t gotten to just yet that you want to talk about um let’s see I mean Texas baseball Series this weekend another one kind of like last weekend where you know you hope they can
Win all three of these and then and then move on and you know the the meat of the schedule the toughest test really begins next week when they go to Houston play LSU Texas State and Vanderbilt but I think if we were GNA talk Texas baseball for a
Couple minutes the one thing I want to see is just better performances from the starting pitchers in the weekend rotation and then you know hopefully you you sweep this series and don’t have the on San Diego is a good team they they should have swept them hopefully you
Don’t have another you know Saturday laps like that but Charlie hurry Hurley the Saturday starter only going three and two thirds struggling a little bit uh not great and then uh Friday before that learon Johnson gutted out gutted out five innings but not his greatest stuff considering he’s the Ace of the
Staff and then on and then on Sunday Tanner wit clearly just just not there you know yet to be fully back to what he was freshman year Tanner so hopefully hopefully they can figure that a little bit with the pitching got some good performances from the bullpen but yeah
If we were just going to do a quick Texas baseball I think those would be my main takeaways I’m sure you didn’t watch much as you were enjoying your your family time at beautiful Kalahari no this infuriates Kevin and a lot of other Longhorn Baseball fans I don’t watch any college
Baseball in the regular season I’ll maybe tune in for for a game here and there but no I’ve got way too much else going on and I also don’t have lhn either and so I’m I’m to the point now where if it’s a game on lhn I’m
Gonna have to Pirate it on my computer just let other people watch and report on it and read about it to try and stay up to date on things there’s a lot of games man like I I’ll say that I I enjoy covering Texas baseball like it’s going
To lead it’s going to lead our show at 10 a quick highlight of that game then we’ll talk about basketball we’ll do a little you know high school basketball playoffs UT basketball all that kind of stuff but there are a lot of games and like back-to-back weekend Series against San Diego and
Calply like I mean the die hards will be there and that’s great again like I said I’m I’m not trying to get high and mighty like I’m still G to cover it but I don’t blame you at all that’s what I’m getting at I appreciate that I’m glad I
Get a pass from you I treat I treat uh Texas baseball like a lot of people treat the NBA where you really start tuning in once we get to the very end of the regular season and into of the postseason well will you even like box
Score dive or anything like like hop in and be like oh because because that’s that’s what I’ll do I mean I’m I’m working so I’m watching most of the games but if I wasn’t that’s probably what I would do I’d jump in I’d be like
Oh like Jared Thomas is off to a great start pton pal two home runs in four games like I I do that kind of stuff and check the highlights probably see how the pitchers did the starting pitchers for sure um and maybe spend a couple
Minutes on it that would be if I wasn’t you know if we weren’t covering it daily that’s a good question actually the foundation of My Love For Sports has to do with baseball box scor so I will still like I’ll Wonder to myself oh did Texas baseball win last night I’ll go
Look at the score at Texas sports.com or look at the box score to see who did well so yeah I do still pay attention to box score by the way that’s not just a Texas baseball thing that’s a Rangers baseball thing too there’s 162 regular season
Games I may have watched bits and pieces of like four or five last year once it got to the playoffs I watched pretty much every playoff game and once we got to the uh divisional and um League Championship rounds and World Series of course I watched every game I just I
Don’t have that two and a half to three hours to spend most days and nights I I think this changes once you have kids in your life for sure I still do it a little bit but not as much baseball especially Major League Baseball when there’s a game basically every day of
The week it’s great background noise it’s great just like throwing a baseball game on I mean that’s what I would do a lot when I was single and I was home I’d throw the Dodger game on and maybe on like one of the TVs and I play video
Games on the other TV and you know just overstimulate my brain or what whatever but but yeah I would I would do that I don’t get to do that as much now I mean I’ll if I watch a Dodger game it’s more like I got a window to just put it on
And see what happens but I do the same thing with golf like I’ll put on especially because I have time during the day during the week so Thursday and Friday I’ll put on the golf telecast on ESPN plus and it’s just really good background noise and I’ve got I always
Have a couple bucks on a few guys and a few bets and maybe some DraftKings lineups and I’ll sort of keep track of it like that that’s that’s how I treat baseball usually too any money on golf this weekends I don’t want to talk about it oh boy it’s already going that
Poorly it’s just like it’s one of those tournaments where it’s the Mexico open with these tournaments I either win a [ __ ] ton of money or I just get crushed because you’re essentially there’s a couple big names in the field and there’s no value taking those guys
Because it’s still kind of like a coin flip if they’re going to play really well and then you’re just like throwing darts at the dart board and hoping like it sticks on the rest of the guys in the field okay now I’ve got a couple DraftKings lineups that are looking looking all
Right but I’m I’m just I’m I fall along no matter what I’m again that’s my one kind of Niche sport that I’m sicko for um and I love being caught up and in tune with everything once we get closer to the Masters than obviously once we
Get to the Masters but I just love golf too that there’s great stretches like we just said the West Coast Swing some people will pay attention to that just probably just on Saturday and Sunday maybe maybe just on Sunday and then now there’s a couple tournaments two
Tournaments in a row where it’s like n most people just tune out and then you get the Florida swing and then like the Masters is a week or two away so I’m a as much [ __ ] as the PJ T gets I’m still fan of their product
Trey oh yeah I think the PGA do tour is doing pretty well they’re they’re trying to cater more to the players too this pressure that was put on them by Liv golf Liv golf tour is still going on also isn’t it because that Saudi Investment fund deal is looks like it’s
Falling through on the PGA side yeah it’s the deal that they keep tell telling us that they’re continuing to negotiate and then when they’re supposed to release details every time they just move the deadline so and supposedly I’ve I’ve been told by business folks that deadlines make deals well not not in
This case apparently when you can just keep kicking the deadline down the road yeah if it’s a hard and fast deadline where one side is having to pay a penalty if they don’t come to an agreement and there’s a drop dead date then yeah deadlines do make deals but
Otherwise like you said it’s just uh just playing footsie with one another I guess yeah and I’m trying to enjoy this like this part of the PGA Tour like this kind of point in time especially as somebody that does drafting I’m gonna give you a quick
Recap of our time at Kalahari last week was a Wednesday through Friday trip this is an annual trip for us that we almost always take in January but we decided to go in February this year in part because schedules weren’t weren’t aligning the first month of the year and unfortunately our timing
Was not good because going into President’s Day there were a lot of people that had the same idea that we do and I guess there were some schools that were actually off on Thursday and Friday of last week as well so what was an empty water park over the last couple of
Years was a less empty water park and one that was bordering on Annoying by late Thursday and certainly on Friday too and it just reminded me how much I despise waiting in line for anything even anything that tastes good or is a lot of fun lines [ __ ] suck I don’t
Understand every time I drive past an In-N-Out burger or a p terries or burger or pick a place where there is a 30 minute line of cars to get a fast food Burger I don’t understand the deal if you really want the burger that bad Park
Go inside you’ll get the burger and half the time and I as much as I love that water park and as much fun as it can be I had no patience to wait in lines for those rides either unfortunately the kids have a good time
Yeah the kids had a good time of course they’re at a water park they had the wave pool uh it’s just the grumpy old man dad dad and my brother who is also a dad who had the issues uh standing in these obnoxious lines and they don’t
Fast no they don’t that is something that they need to incorporate because I would have probably considered dropping way too much money to uh to pass by the 15 or so people that I was having to stand behind every time I decided to get on one of those raft
Rides I did do the human claw machine you’re familiar with the claw machines that are at arcades across the country right the little like crane claw and it goes down it tries to pluck out stuffed animals well they have a human claw now where it’s not as cool as you’re
Probably envisioning where they essentially they secure you in this burlap piece of fabric that makes you look like a wounded dolphin that’s being uh transported from the ocean to a [ __ ] sanctuary or something and they lower you down and you just try and get a a giant rubber ball out of this uh
This quote unquote ball pit very disappointing the human claw machine we had heard so much about it my kids wanted to do it they did but in the end nobody felt like it was worth the price of admission were they the arcade and all those other things yeah oh yeah they
Love the arcade and there’s like laser tag the arcade element of Kalahari is maybe a little bit underrated they’ve got putt putt they’ve got some indoor roller coasters the laser tag that I mentioned they’ve got some Escape rooms too there’s a lot going on at this
Place but I just need to finish my Kalahari review with this Jeff there were a lot more post look post Malone looking [ __ ] walking around this planet than I realized and I think every single one of them were at Kalahari on Friday I mean it was like they took every bus stop in
Central Texas and the buses delivered them straight to Kalahari on Friday I mean it was Dej Central at Kalahari on Friday and hey look if the face tattoo is something that’s working for you or you felt inspired to do that you realize that it’s probably going to ruin some
Job prospects down the road hey it’s a free country you do what you want but I am shocked at how many people are going down that road at this point like what age group are we talking dude all ages I saw an 11y old with face tattoos no not
Really but like I mean I I feel like if from legal a legal drinking age all the way up until probably my age so mid-40s actually a little bit older than me I feel like I saw somebody with a face tattoo in their 50s so I don’t know if
This is uh this many people who are that broken or people who have been inspired by the post Malones of the world yeah not just hold on let me leave the studio for a second then I will come back in and your Echo will be gone I’ll be right back it’s always Trey’s
Fault always Trey’s fault I I Roy appreciate you pointing that out I really tried it all here this is this is this is what we were left with Trey needed to leave the studio see if he comes back see if he comes back with a at how about now oh let’s see check
Check check said it’s better I don’t know what it is sometimes I just have to leave the studio to get you guys Echoes to go away you hear what I said I I told Roy I’m like thanks for pointing that out maybe maybe he’ll leave and come back with a face tat oh
Man yeah I wish I had a a face tattoo on hand a temporary face tattoo on hand that I could have done that yes the Ripoff machine grant that is correct that human CL machine is [ __ ] is it expensive like what is it I mean I get
The idea I mean you explain the idea well but like why is it not worth why is it not worth the money is it super expensive or it’s just lame it is 20 bucks so it’s not cheap it’s like 20 bucks for a minute and let me see let me
See if I can pull up a video real quick human fall machine so basically post Malone has inspired dudes across the world to across the country at least to get face tats is this was your uh this was your takeaway from going to Kalahari that is not what I would have
Predicted you to come away with dude it is wild how many people have face tattoos shocking I would say and it makes me uh think that the face tattoo thing is going to be normalized pretty soon to where it’s not going to be costing people good jobs it’s just like
Hey you got a face tattoo cool maybe we need to uh maybe we need to give Mike Tyson a little more credit oh Mike Tyson was one of the face tattoo Originators wasn’t he yeah face tat definitely never say something bad about Mike Tyson with his face tattoos
That would get me killed on Q Roy Mike Tyson had the face T before post Malone yes he did but Mike Tyson’s face tattoos are a little bit more artistic looking than post Malones post Malon look like somebody straightened out a paperclip and got a big pin and gave him those
Tattoos in prison I realized they didn’t give him those tattoos in prison but that’s what those tattoos look like and that’s what the tattoos that I was seeing all over Kalahari look like too how are the do it on the uh the M oh
No you you beat Roy to it on the the Mike Tyson tattoo I see how are the rooms there uh the rooms are fine they’ve I think they have nicer rooms but we don’t splurge on the rooms because we’re that’s not really why you’re there no we’re only in the rooms
At night to go to sleep so um we everybody had their own bed which is nice and the room served their purpose is uh helping uh helping get some sleep but other than that it was uh all about some of the other fun some decent restaurants out there too the
Highlight of the trip for me believe it or not was going to goodstock by Nolan Ryan I forget do you guys live in mayor or Elgen uh no hudo hudo excuse me so we’re we’re like we’re like 10 minutes from from Kalahari I go to goodstock quite a
Bit to really random I get their butter oh really their their compound butter that I’ll put on I’ll like top off the steaks with I didn’t even check that out that was my first time in there though um good stock by Nolan Ryan Blown Away by the meat selection I got two of
The best strip Stakes of my entire life like my I say it’s all really good quality there really good quality they’ve got non beef products too they’ve got the compound Butters they’ve got a good wine selection to go with some of those meats so highly recommend it to people if you
Are in that area it’s just east of Dell diamonds it’s that very next stoplight there’s a hat Creek Burger Company right there uh it’s next to the summer Moon so go there it’s a boutique butcher shop I guess is the best way to put it but it’s
Not expensive like you think with the boutique shops check it out good stock by Nolan Ryan so that was the biggest highlight for me of the uh the Water Park this year was uh was the stakes that I got at the end of the water park trip
Hey but the kids had fun the kids had fun and and you learned something about post Malone’s influence on the World Trey a lot of post Malone looking [ __ ] walking around this world and with that we end another day of Texas Sports unfiltered thank you Jeff
