Hey Mayhem family we are back in the studio uh Jake Locker Rory mckernon and we are blessed to be I not to introduce you because you are so many things to Mayhem uh athlete uh member of the family uh but bayy rail now Bailey rail christell officially uh is joining us
And I’m shocked to find that this is your first time on a podcast set so let’s just get let’s just get the uh The Wiggles out you’re a little bit nervous I’m a little nervous it’s my first time on like an actual set um but I’m just
Honored and grateful to be here so thanks for having me oh we’re we’re I mean honored and grateful in return the uh but it shocks me that you would have any kind of nerves after you you spent a lot of time in front of a camera well so
I mean I’ve had to learn to just being at Mayhem and and and having the camera around but it doesn’t mean I’m always comfortable yeah you know why do you think that is like well let’s get it out let’s get it out there like what what
Makes you nervous um I don’t think it’s like not it’s not saying the wrong thing but it’s just conceptualizing how I actually feel about life or just things and making sure that I can express it clearly and then sometimes I’m just like do people really care what I have to say
Or on the flip side like before the cameras are rolling we were talking about there’s this weird there’s there’s there’s always got to be somebody like they get the negative feedback right where we know you could Swipe by and we know that you could just not watch the
Video but instead you chose to be here and take your time to like give me a negative comment right and that’s bothersome as well yeah but we were talking earlier like you don’t you don’t have to watch this like this is us talking about our personal and
Individual stories and if you don’t like it we know you’re scrolling so just keep going but uh which you which you usually are great and you’re you know graceful about it but uh you said you’re going to change your strategy you might start engaging uh yeah uh Tyler has challenged
Me to engage with the negative comments and make them kind of funny so with a real Sunshine yeah with like kind of being nice but also at the same time being silly so if you have a negative comment just giving it back and just feeling like you don’t have to be here
Or just say something silly back to them so thank you for feedback thank you yeah exactly thank you so someone says something negative and you’re just like thank you for taking the time to do that have you done that yet I have well I’ve wanted to do it so many times but then
I’m like okay I don’t want to be rude back even though they’ve been rude to me I’m just like 100% like I’m not going to take the time to engage in that so we’ll just move on totally I actually like it’s funny it’s funny how quickly you
Can neutralize some of that stuff too CU let’s just say five or six out of 10 of these are like people don’t even have real accounts or they’re just they’re just trying to get under your skin but the other portion of them I’ve found that if you actually engage them you’re
Like oh man that’s kind of hurtful like why you know kind of what they want well I mean I find that they they turned it off like you know you can you can actually they’re like oh you know I didn’t exactly mean it that way or whatever yeah um that actually happened
After the games in 2022 I think so Tio was ging a speech after the the games and kind of just like a great speech and G had done something something to me just he was just joking around kind of our relationship and our friendship and he
Was he did something where he came and stand in front of me and the camera had turned right onto me and I like headbutted him and I had rolled my eyes at Paige cuz I was rolling my eyes at G and people thought I was rolling my eyes
At Tia and I felt so bad I personally apologized to her I was like I promise you I was not rolling my eyes at you something else happened and I was trying to be respectful and listen and then then the cameras came on to me and I had
Rolled my eyes at ghee and people were so mean and so I won’t engage whenever someone’s just kind of throwing something out there but if there’s a situation that happened and I want the truth to be um unveiled then I commented back and and they did do that they kind
Of reversed their stance on it because I didn’t see the full details and that’s kind of what happens a lot of the times is you don’t see the full details and so if we want to set something straight then that’s kind of one of our that’s
The that’s the I don’t know call it a darker side like that’s that’s the unfortunate side of lots of media right it’s like yeah you know they’re editing it to make a story like there’s only so much time maybe they didn’t even do it intentionally but yeah you you never get
All the context yeah that one was truly unintentional cuz I remember were you like fake headb of ghee and then roll your eyes and everyone even me saw was like that’s funny Jumbotron I was just think it’s hilarious that ghee and like Bailey are like poking funny each other
On the floor but no one else that knew you guys when knew you was playing and they assumed that yeah you were like doging or whatever what you were but then again I I went and I personally I found Tia I just wanted to make sure
That she knew I wasn’t trying to be disrespectful in Her speech um so as long as she knew then I was okay and I remember then you guys took it out in the parking lot quick fist fite and it was all took me to the ground clean SL after that you’re good
Now um well I think what’s it’s fair to say that especially since you’ve been at Mayhem on our media like people know you as an athlete and certainly you’ve had this this incredible will run um eight 17 and 18 as on a team 19 and 20 off 21
Through 23 um as an individual athlete will get to it but I also think you’ve got this amazing background that it it it fascinates and intrigues me um that people would love to hear about and um primarily this this will shock you or maybe creep you out I literally uh I
Managed to scroll all the way to the bottom of your feet on your Instagram all the way I don’t even know what’s down there how many was I think I think I’m looking at a high schooler right now yeah you are um but um most notably um I
Think that you have a hugely unique athletic background that I want to start with um and to the best of my knowledge all is just golf you’re a golfer tell me no actually we were also talking about this I’ve never sat down and just went through the whole story um we’ve talked
About bits and pieces so I’m really excited to kind of just dive into it um but so growing up I I have an older sister and she was just my role model I wanted to be her so I did everything that she did and she’s still to this day
Is my role model um but we grew up doing gymnastics primarily um and I was kind of like the old in the little teeny bobber class my sister’s the elite um gymnast and so I always just really looked up to her and I did what she did
So she did gymnastics and then she did basketball and my dad coached us through um basketball and then in high school we did golf and we were trying to get a golf scholarship to go to college um and that’s kind of something in my background um and just growing up we’ve
Always been taught to like earn your way and I’m really thankful for that lesson um but we weren’t just going to get our college paid for and so we had to find a way to earn that in golf and getting a scholarship that way was how we wanted
To do that um so we ended up can can I pause you there yeah go ahead but how you were like you literally looked at the kind of like an array of sports or an array of opportunities to get to college and you said yeah golf’s
Probably our best shot or like yeah how is your I don’t know is your dad a golf like how did that how did that come yeah so my dad is he’s a scratch golfer and so he can kind of just go out there and do great which kind of set me up for
Like why can’t I do that um but yeah we kind of looked at our options and um competitive gymnastics is I mean it’s so difficult and we’ve always been also honest with ourselves of like what’s going to be our best way to earn that way to college and there was just a huge
Opportunity in women’s golf is this like your freshman you’re high school you’re looking at this or like junior year yeah but my sister she’s been three years older than me and so she kind of she’s kind of always paved the path um and so she did the same thing with golf and we
Ended up playing in the same College together for a year which was really cool um but yeah we weighed our options with gymnastics and like do you want to do that in college what are our chances same with basketball actually with basketball this is another story actually never told but um I couldn’t
Play my senior year because I had a brain injury and so that kind of shut that door but I could play golf in college and so I had um earned my way onto the same team as my sister and that was kind of the path that was created
And we rolled with it obviously I can’t let you mention a brain injury and just just Brush by it right so um that sounds terrible and and crazy like can you tell us a story yeah so it wasn’t anything drastic or dramatic and and I’m sure there’s been a lot of similar injuries
That have gone undetected with football um and just other sports but I was actually in a basketball game and we me and another girl from the other team like jumped up and collided heads and it like kind of hit me right in the soft spot of my
Temple and I kind of just shook it off that’s like what we were taught to do in gymnastics like you just keep going and so I tried to keep going in the game I ended up getting hit again and just just recently I learned that the story I was
Telling myself wasn’t the actual story that had happened out on the floor I thought I would got taken out of the game from a twisted angle but really I I kind of collapsed on the floor um and kind of just chocked it up as like you
Know you get hit you get up you move on you get taken out of the game and you go to school the next day well I went to school the next day and things just weren’t right I just I couldn’t focus my head was hurting so bad the lights were
So bright and I was just like Mom something’s wrong um can we go get checked and and previously before we started the season we had the concussion test and that was like the Baseline test so if something happened then you would get tested again so I went and I took
The concuss concussion test and absolutely just failed it I think I was at a 2% reaction rate and so then um it was considered a concussion but then it wouldn’t get any better and I just felt like there was so much inflammation in my head and so we got an
MRI because it didn’t get any better and ended up being a sheer injury so what it was explained to me is like you have your brain here and it shifts from Impact and it kind of breaks some neurons and so I had to go through neuro rehab and take he wouldn’t like the
Doctor wouldn’t uh release me for a little over a year so at which point you’re still having headaches and yeah yeah we had to um kind of manipulate my school schedule which was crazy I would have to go to school for like two or
Three hours a a day and then I had to shut it down and uh like relax and rest and then go to neuro rehab and it was just a cycle and I was put on medication that kind of changed a lot about my life um but I wouldn’t trade it because of
Everything that I’ve learned from it and yeah is this is your entire like senior year from basketball season through graduation yep and then into college some as well um so into so this is kind of how I got into CrossFit so I was doing sports all my life and whenever
That concussion in brain injury hit I was taken out of all the sports I didn’t know how to take care of my nutrition I didn’t didn’t know how to actually exercise um I was just doing sports but whenever that happened I couldn’t do anything and so I ended up gaining
Weight not knowing how to take care of myself and so those effects lasted into college but whenever I had um gotten to college I was released to be able to to play golf and other sports um doctor said I couldn’t do any like High Impact Sports probably for the rest of my life
But I kind of ignored that oh like even like high intensity you mean yeah okay um from my understanding but yeah I think he was just trying to protect that um but yeah so that led into college and eventually I was so done with not knowing how to
Take care of myself I didn’t like the way that I like physically looked in the mirror because I kind of lost a grip on exercise and essentially how to fuel my body um and so then a family friend was doing CrossFit in his garage gym he’s
Like why don’t you just come and try this out cuz I was going to like the recck center and I didn’t never know what to do yeah and so I loved the fact that I could go to his garage gym he could just tell me what to do kind of
Teach me some things and it was so fun and then we ended up going to the gym and that’s where I started being competitive with Crossfit is this like the first timee you’ve ever laid your hands on free weights I mean was yeah you’re you’re you do like weight room
Stuff in high school but we didn’t I didn’t know what I was doing yeah like maybe like a back squat at 60 pounds quarter squat yeah quarter squat but like before we let it go um are there lasting effects like do you still yeah um I would say I so my cousin actually
Works with brain injuries and I was telling her some of my symptoms I just get very overwhelmed Med easily and overly stimulated uh Tyler has a joke that I shut down at 8:00 p.m. like there’s no there’s nothing there at 8:00 p.m. uh but I would say some of the
Effects are being completely like overwhelmed having trouble starting an actual task or like a project um but I would say I’m good yeah yeah yeah so it’s not it’s not um Mid competition you start seeing stars or when you do a certain movement you’re get confused or
Anything along those lines yeah I don’t know if that’s an actual effect of that or if it’s just an effect of the workout super hard I don’t know how to determine but I would say for the most part we’re good to go yeah okay that’s fantastic um
So let’s go back because here’s my from my my internet sleuth thing we’re talking 2015 is yeah okay and literally the way that it the way that it scrolled anyways right was um I see like April or May basically the first time it shows up
You’re like hey I got my first muscle up oh yeah and then within I think I show you and then within a month it say I got my first strict muscle up uhhuh which to me it’s like I did CrossFit for years before I got a muscle
Up right um was all of your kind of advancement that quick did it did it come easily did it come naturally like um I would say gymnastics things came naturally because when you’re taught as a gymnast you know how to manipulate your body so and you also have a lot of
That strength that you’ve held on to um I would say for gymnastics skills yes they came pretty easily just because of the body awareness if you have a coach in the class and that was really cool about the the gym that we had gone to it was CrossFit 417 back in Missouri they
Taught us so many things um so there’s like a lot of great coaches around and so whenever you’re coached and you know how to like kind of manipulate your body that translates over to the gymnastics skills the cardio skills I would say lifting barbells that’s a different
Story that has not come naturally at all right still trying we’re still getting better we’re still getting better we’re working on it everyday is um a process but that’s what’s cool about it there’s always something to work on and and get better at even at the elite level there’s always something new introduce
And and and things that you need to do to get better but I would say gymnastics yes barbell strength high intensity no yeah well and I couldn’t agree more like that’s what’s fun about as a spectator as a participant all the things right cuz you all come from when I started
Cross I could lift you know I could lift the house yeah but it was like I said like I wasn’t going to get a muscle up for another couple years so um I think that’s the great equalizer and what makes it kind of cool um and so this
We’re in college and you’re you’re still playing golf and fitting crossfitting kind of as a hobby when did it was 15 your freshman year of college 201 yeah I graduated in 14 15 was my first year of college uh played college golf but I was starting CrossFit like 15 to 16 and like
While I was playing golf I this is a really silly story that I’ve never told anybody about but I was walking down the golf course like down the Fairway and I just felt so unfit and I was like I’ve got to get a grip on this and so that’s
When I started cranking up the workouts um I would do instead of one session in the garage I would do two and then whenever we moved to the actual gym and did a class workout I fell in love love with it cuz there were so many other
People um and so like 15 to 16 there was a team that was training out of cross of 417 and so it would be like normal class over here and then you’d see what they were doing over here and I was like I want to do that that looks really cool
And so I started going to the gym more often so my schedule was like wake up I would to get my gym membership paid for I would do child care in the morning and I still lived at home so it’s was like a 30 minute drive so I drive to the gym do
Care I’d drive across town to go to school I’d come back I’d do my workout I’d drive back to school for class I’d go to the golf course and do my golf practice I’d go back to the gym and then I’d drive home every day and I think
About that now and I’m like that was a lot yeah and I think like when you Breeze through it like that it doesn’t it still doesn’t sound like a lot but it was funny I was asking Tyler you know like what don’t a lot of people know and
He talked about that specifically like as a as a 20-year-old 19 20-year-old um you’re juggling a lot as you were making and by the way you’re making massive advancements because I think by 2017 you’re in water palooza if not yeah that was my first competition yeah so that’s
Huge yeah I can’t I mean so anybody who’s got an excuse I think you probably have a good response to it where yeah when it comes to but that’s another thing we’re taught like work ethic and you have to work hard for the things that you want and I wanted CrossFit and
That did not align with college golf at all and so if I wanted to do CrossFit I had to find a way to do it and that was going to be cuz my priorities are over here with school and golf so on my downtime I want to do CrossFit and I
Want to be great at it so that was what I spent my time doing you’re basically Moonlighting CrossFit that’s awesome exactly like most people like I want to Chase my dream drop everything Chase it and yeah like no I have to do life and
Then yeah but I wanted to do that but I had wise counsel in my life my parents are just like hey this is your priority you can keep doing this as long as this is your priority because this is what you committed to do you finish what you started and
Um we can’t let that take away from what you’re doing once you’re done with that if this is the direction you want to go then go full force but I did compete on a team in 2017 and 2018 which was while I was in college so you were still in
College at that point um how but how did the training affect your golf game like did you was there a market difference like did you start you know just all of a sudden you’re cranking the ball the ball so far but I wasn’t hitting it very
Straight yeah so I’d hit the ball very far um but I had to make sure that stretching was in my routine because I was putting on muscle mass which also was a limitation in my golf swing so I had to make sure that I was staying flexible so that it wouldn’t affect my
Golf swing because you know with golf a little Minor Detail is going to throw everything off yeah sorry about that Scott that’s actually still my golf game like I can hit as far as you want me to hit it but I have no idea where it’s
Gone well I think that also with um gymnastics and golf since you know how to manipulate your body and have so much much body awareness I would change my swing every time I would not hit the ball straight and so I could never have like a good muscle memory swing because
I would try to manipulate every single shot golf swings are hard to make perfect it’s hard yeah golf when you went to golf was it more or less most of the time golf was like all right this is my job I have to do it it just gets to I
Mean pays the college bill or did you enjoy golf no I did not I would I loved golf because what an opportunity I didn’t it was my job but how cool of a job to be on the golf course and be somewhere so beautiful and it was fun
When it would go well but it wouldn’t it didn’t go well it was not super fun and I wanted I really had such a passion for CrossFit that I had to balance making sure that it wasn’t like negative with golf in my mindset of like I don’t want
To be doing this but I just had to look at the positives and um yeah that’s what ultimately got me through is like this is what I’ve committed to do and that I learned so much from that um and then it was even more sweet when I got to transition and be passionate
About CrossFit but but it was so it was it means to an end at the end of it and basically like is what happened after your last golf match did you just like clubs went into the corner and it was all cross yeah yeah you don’t play you
You don’t play much you don’t play much anymore right uhuh I I played a scramble a couple of months ago and it was so much fun yeah um but it’s different like a lot of people who love golf are like man I would I would love to just play
Golf but it’s different when it’s a competition versus just a fun scramble it’s a different sport and I have so much respect for um the golfers out there because it’s tough yeah um yeah it see and it seems like uh clubs were gone they were in the Trum because we were
Chasing CrossFit and I brought them out dusted off the cobwebs a couple years ago it does seem like um I think much to do with Scott Stallings but even like tiger was a big Fitness guy it seems like golf is it does have a large Fitness um a lot of people are getting
Into fitness even though they’re golfers and they don’t like perceive that they need it or like old school golfers you know smoke a cigarette and drink a bunch of beer and still shoot a good round of golf daily baby exactly um but uh yeah it seems like it’s it’s um infiltrating
Golf in a big way I think it’s really cool too because I mean golf has been looked at as that for so long but now that we’re seeing what Fitness can do for your game I think it’s huge huge and I think it’s I think you have to be smart about the
Way you approach it so Scott’s probably not going to do the same types of workouts that we’re doing he’s manipulating that around his golf game and what can make him better in those areas um I don’t want to speak for them but I noticed a significant difference
In my golf game with my overall Fitness um by working on that it would definitely translate to the course because you don’t have carts you’re walking around um you need to be fit for that and then it also complement your swing so yeah yeah I love that I’m
Excited to see how it takes off yeah 100% offl so so so when when you um okay so you’re on the team for a portion of the story we just told yeah um we kind of we kind of glazed over that but we basically got to hey you’re starting to
Be competitive and feel it how did the how did the pairing and like how did the getting onto a team and saying like you’re actually a games caliber athlete how did that come together I think throughout my entire career I’ve had the impostor syndrome where like am I
Actually supposed to be here I would just work really hard every day and and try to conceptualize that on in my brain of like you’re going to be out there on the floor um and that’s why I think it was so awesome to be able to be part of
A team and go and experience it with a group of people um CU you’re not out there just by yourself and I think that really prepared me to go and take it on by myself cuz I knew a little bit of what to expect still didn’t know all of
The variables of what’s going to happen but I thought it was really cool um to kind of like learn the ropes and be able to the the part about team that I absolutely love is being able to suffer for other people and uh stepping away from the team competition and then going
To Italy reminded me of that um there’re very different ways to approach the sport and how the games actually feels but they’re both very um difficult in their own way but I just I really loved being able to have that launch me into the individual career instead of just
Stepping on the by myself not knowing really what to expect I learned a lot of things about myself being on team and that really translated well to being individual um literally break down like how did how did you get identified as a team I was it tryy out did you yeah we
Had tryy outs okay yeah so we had um there was a lot of I can’t remember how many people were kind of trying out for the team but we had like five or six and it was the year that we had oh the six-man team mhm was the
First year and then the next year was the fourman team and so was last year six-man team right so your first year yeah yep so my first year was six-man the next one was four fourman yeah so we had tryy outs I didn’t know what to
Expect I just went in there and tried my best and obviously wasn’t the strongest when it came to weights um but they believed just like broke a pool stick and threw it out there and get after it yeah we did um different workouts together and some people would sit out
Some people would do the workouts and um so Jared Stevens was the owner of the gym and he was also the leader of the team and so they were kind of some veterans because they had teams that had gone beforehand and so we kind of just
Showed up for a weekend like a mock Regional weekend and did some of the workouts and whoever performed the best they would hand select them and that’s who was on the team and I remember Tyler was there as well and they asked his input and they believed in me and I’m so
Grateful that they did because I was like I’m just going to show up and see what happens and I’ve kind of always been that way where other people believe in me first before I believe really in myself your fitness journey is unique to you at mayham athlete we’ll be right by
Your side every step of the way whether your goal is to become a CrossFit Games Champion or staying fit for life we have programs for all Fitness levels join the Mayhem athlete family and train Like A Champion today well I obviously I think they made the right choice um I don’t think
Anybody’s looking back and being like dang it shouldn’t taken daily do you based on all the stuff that you said about I mean you’ve obviously got the individual experience now but based on what you said about the team comp when you look back at your career did that do
You think that set you up for more success to have that team experience where you can lean on other people um learn your lessons and then go individual yeah 100% and that’s why I’m so grateful for that because it again it taught me so much about me as an athlete
Me as a person and um how to it taught me life lessons too of like how to navigate sharing those vulnerable vulnerable moments with people around you whenever you’re suffering and um I I really think it taught me a lot that I could transfer over to being an
Individual athlete so yeah that’s cool f in fact I competed against her in Tyler 1718 did you really regionals that’s how I actually so that’s how I knew May him was uh we were in the North Central Regional and so we would compete against
Rich and you I was in Cross hille at the time in Mayhem yeah there’s a picture of you in 2017 Regional like walking back to Tyler or something but rich is like I saw that one I saw that one yes it was like right when you guys found out that
You qualified or may you cross the finish line so we came actually our team came here to Mayhem I can’t remember what year it was but we came here for a weekend and competed like games training I think it was 19 I wasn’t here yeah but I was off
Of PT school so 17 18 19 y’all made the games with that team and then 17 18 we 19 was the year of the um what was it called like sanction sanctional yeah we were supposed to go to France but I injured my back okay so I had to her
Needed a disc so we couldn’t go to that one and so that’s how I sat out for the 2020 season but yeah so 17 and 18 um so that’s a perfect thread actually like you’re on the competition floor with these guys um where when like paint me the picture
Of when you’re like well I think it’s time for individual or you know what what kind of led to that decision and then ultimately like I think that that somewhat leads to how you end up in Cookville yep so I had injured my back in 2019 and then 2020 Tyler qualified
For the games and I sat out that year because I was rehabbing my back and it was a really cool opportunity because then I got to be there for Tyler um unfortunately it was the online games but it also was cool that we got to share that with our community so
Transitioning from team we had moved over because Tyler was coaching at another gym and so after the 2020 season I was like I think I just want to give individual a shot because team wasn’t really an option at that point um and so again I was like we’ll just see
How it goes and we did the quarterfinals and in that year it was the front squat was one of the workouts you’re laughing cuz I remember yep so it was the front squat and I took a pretty significant hit with that workout which ultimately led to me not qualifying for the semi-final we
Back up you should tell them I remember specifically because it’s quarterfinals foll Mayhem just this season yeah we decided in 2020 that we wanted to follow Mayhem athlete training and so that’s kind of what we were doing and I remember you were coaching Tyler yeah at that point but you had called during
Quarterfinals cuz she needed to hit like I don’t know 190 or some weight for the 207 for the four front squat so she tried fresh because of the first workout you could try she was like I failed it what should I do I think I didn’t fail
It I just did I hit it but but I didn’t declare the weight beforehand and it said clearly like you had to do that I don’t know if they were going to uphold that but I was like I’m not going to get that not validated so I
Was like do I do it again I said don’t do it again but then you got the phone went and did it again7 like 30 minutes later for like all out yeah yeah that was that was sad cuz it my whole weekend up for being super sore sorry go ahead then yeah you’re
Right you didn’t qualify yep so we didn’t qualify which was really sad um but at the same time it was sad because I felt like I had the overall capacity to qualify for semi-finals and it was frustrating that one thing kind of like kept me out but that’s something that it
Exposed a weakness that I needed to get better at and it it allowed me to be able to work on that but so I was actually everything the dust settled didn’t qualify I was like okay it’s just another year I’m going to you know train that weakness support Tyler in his journey
Um and I was actually in Boston for a noble shoot and I got an email saying hey we’re going to send you a backfill invite and this is the uh semi-final that you’re selected for and it was the same one that was Tyler’s which was the atlas games which was a um online
Semi-final and so we came to Mayhem that’s how it all started that was an epic so it was basically you needed a place to do it yeah okay so logist ically it worked out you guys on Sam was coming to Sam uh and was Henry
And H yes so a couple of other people were coming and and Tyler as well so I was like I’m just going to piggyback and they’ll have it set up so I’ll let them go I’ll do the workouts afterwards try to stay out of the way I just need I
Just need to uh get these workouts done and see kind of like where it stacks and and ends up yeah so and I this is that when we cleared out the the store and like we were trying to find places to do with AC we wanted it was so hot yes yeah
So they were trying to find different air condition so I think I did one workout actually in the main gym but everything else was either in the store or the upstairs room yes yep that’s right so when I took my level one this weekend we were up in that upstairs room
And I just kept thinking about the workouts that we had done up there you just redid your level one yeah oh that’s fun man I got to I have to do that I’m like I keep put put it off putting it back yeah yeah oh that’s great people
People probably got a kick out of you being there too they they did but I was like hey I know how to work out and do CrossFit I want to learn about the fundamentals of CrossFit and how I can help other people um which was really
Cool to be able to like share that with those people good for you it that was your first time taking the L1 yeah wow that’s great yeah um that blew my mind yeah makes sense though yeah it was cool did a great job let’s actually so let’s
Finish the story of that weekend because to me it um it highlights one of the most interesting dynamics that you have to navigate right which is that your husband also competes yeah um to give Tyler credit and Bailey again being underestimated I’ll I’ll I’ll follow in
My sword here as I should coming in that weekend Tyler texting figuring out I was like hey it’s you four guys going and Bailey too like we’ll make sure she has set up and everything I was like Tyler like don’t stress about Bailey like yeah you’re the focus you back to the games
We’ll still take we’ll take care of Bailey Just don’t worry about it he was like bro like these workouts are dialed Up For Her Like She’s Fit And I was like yeah like I’m sure she’ll do good and so yeah I was like really facilitating Tyler as much as I could but still
Helping then you can kind of tell like after the two three workouts I don’t remember where we ranked after day one and two oh gosh after actually do you remember the first workout yes you do oh that’s right we started off with the uh Thruster chest bar and in the middle of
It the cord accidentally got kicked the clocks came off off uh but we figured it out we were good um but after day two I was in eighth place yep so and then the next two workouts were the Rope climb workout and the what was it the shoulder
To shoulder to over no cleaning jerk burp gr those are the last two but you didn’t know because they would release so unlike a regular semif final where you see where you’re at after every event the online one you would see where you’re at after every two events the
Next day that was terrible waiting yeah so bad yeah so you’d submit your scores you’d wait till 2 p.m. and then you’d see the leaderboard yep the next day so we were in eighth place going into the last day and it was a bit of a motion
Roller coaster and Tyler got hit with penalties is what happened right yeah okay on that first workout um which that’s also really difficult for like camera angles and we had did everything they could to have the registered judges I mean we were kind of all taken I took
A penalty on workout number two and the final one cuz in competition you know you like hey no rep you fix it after that online you’re kind of camera angle matters and of course a range of motion blah blah blah but yeah so he took major penalty on that dropped him he worked
His way back up to fifth yeah and going last day we he like killed the last two workouts again online I mean maybe it’s me making excuses but it is what it is like the plates I didn’t choose from dead stop so it bounced a little more on
Gredle with a three clean jerks hop over and back over the bar where if you had dead stop it would just stop right that’s maybe 10 seconds but that’s the difference where was in person everyone’s same thing so yeah Tyler I think dropped from fifth to sixth that’s
When fikowski like blew through workout said awesome and came back and then yeah you came in killed the legless and like upd lead a board remember your dad was like oh my gosh ba you want it so we this is we’re sitting here waiting it’s like your heart’s just pounding you’re
In this transition where you’ve submitted your scores there’s nothing else that you can do and you’re waiting for them to come out and you’re just sitting they like refreshing the leaderboard just refreshing refreshing refreshing and I’m in eighth place I don’t know what to expect I just tried
My best with the last two workouts um I was just fully anticipating like okay prepare yourself like you’re probably not going to move like I’m kind of just focused on making sure Tyler is good you know that was our Focus for the weekend um but we refreshed the leaderboard and I’m
Like that’s not right like no well and then we we also see like Tyler’s as well um but I had gone from eighth to first which was one of the most surreal moments of my life and it was a moment where I I truly felt like there not I
Literally could I didn’t do that like I was the first time in my life that I really witnessed the power of God in my life do something that I didn’t believe was possible and so that kind of has set the theme up and really if you look at the
Story my story is of him and of his power of doing things that I can’t do I’m just there to show up and to be the vessel and he’s truly taken my story and demonstrated that he can do whatever he wants with it and I just remember going
To the bathroom by myself just standing in the bathroom of like wow okay I see what you can do when you put your my trust in you and it was obviously a very Bittersweet moment because Tyler had gone to sixth place um so that was really devastating but
Also seeing that it wasn’t even really about qualifying it was the fact of like wow that was the first time I really witnessed um God in that way this may be a weird place to take this but it’s it’s to your point and something that I’ve gleaned from my
Experience being your friend is um a a lot of people say that but you can can feel how you feel it and correct me if I’m wrong but at that you’re at the games you actually you were disappointed in yourself after the games is that fair
To say uh I just remember where I’m trying to go with it is when we interviewed you for the documentary coverage you or maybe it was just certain events but there was there was some disappointment but the takeaway for you was um really a focus on God and
Having showed up and done what you could but ultimately understanding that it’s not in your hands yeah which like hit me like a ton of bricks when you’re saying because because it was clear that you believed it you know what I mean I think a lot of people um they’ve got sound
Bites or they’ll say things um and there’s only a couple times really in my life some more heavy than others you know where I’ve witnessed somebody going through sickness and they’re like it’s out of my hands you know like what’s going to happen is going to happen I’m talking about like terminal illnesses
And that was a case too where I was like she means it like it’s uh it it was really authentic so I think on on both sides of it we were like wow I didn’t think I could do this but have put it in his hands and wow you know maybe I
Thought that I could or whatever it is but you were in a place of acceptance where I was like God I really admire that I want that you know yeah was it that year uh I mean yes every time at the games you learn something different so the first year I
Remember I was I came to Mayhem to train for the games after qualifying I had no idea what to expect but I remember experiencing that piece whenever um I was doing the clean ladder and I stepped up to the bar and I was like so nervous for the two clean workouts of course
There was two not just one at the games there was two ladders and I approached the bar and I like I just couldn’t get it on one of the weights and then I like took a step back and everything kind of just went silent and it was just just
Like I’m am not defined by this barbell like how cool is it that we are in this situation it’s not cool to sit out there in front of thousands of people and and fail a lift but it was so peaceful and I felt so much Freedom that that moment and that lift didn’t
Define who I am and the fact that I was even on that floor was a testament to God’s goodness and so after that year it was actually I felt like it was a good year the second year I felt a lot more disappointment but I think that was because I tried
Um I kind of had like a sense of entitlement of I worked really hard I should be doing really good and I learned that obviously God teaches us lessons of like okay you can try to do that on your own and that’s not what that’s not what I’m I needed to do and
It wasn’t that I wasn’t trusting in God I was just I had worked really hard And he taught me that lesson of like hey you know what there’s going to be storms but I’m going to be there with you and so that was kind of the theme of that year um and then this past year like my whole story is about what he’s doing in
My life um this past year was another Testament to his power of I’m going into the last day of this semifinal not in a position of qualification at all but again if I’m going to bet on anything I’m not going to bet myself I’m going to
Bet on God and what he can do and so I’m like it’s completely out of my hands I will 100% show up and do my best but if it’s his will then he’ll make it happen and if it’s not then that’s his will as well and he again demonstrated that
Something that can look impossible is something that he can take and make possible and that’s my story yeah and I think you do a fantastic job of of articulating it in environments like this but you’re very consistent with that as well like um you know because of athletic Pursuits or
What whatever the reasons may be um you’ve got a a large audience large you know um it’s called a following for lack of a better word um is that how you’re trying to leverage that kind of like what are what are your what are your larger goals in life with
This yeah with this path that you’re on well I think also we we talked about earlier not seeing all the details and so I don’t ever want to be inauthentic by saying it’s perfect all the time and and everything’s worked out perfectly cuz it hasn’t and a lot of the times
We’re in the valleys and we don’t showcase that but even in The Valleys I want to show people that we can have peace there too um I want to be able to take my story because it really is my story and he’s he’s really done
The impossible with it and my eyes and I want to show people that he can do that with their lives too um and my platform has never necessarily been about being on the podium I think that would be a really cool goal and it’s always a goal
But I want to showcase that he can take the impossible and somebody like me who doesn’t believe in themselves but if you believe in God then they can do whatever he can do whatever he wants with your story and I want other people to feel that I don’t ever want to tell people
What to do with their their lives but I want to tell my story and tell them that anything is possible when you believe in him so I want to I want to share that with people um and Crossfit has been such a a beautiful platform and demonstration to be able to Showcase
That and I’m really excited for the next steps of being able to help people along the way and pour into them in the community yeah I’m I’m excited for that I think you’ve got a tremendous amount to give in that sense and um I love that
You’ve rolling the with it and I think especially again this is some of like through personal discussions when we traveled um even I was guilty of it but I think people make assumptions about you and I don’t know how to I don’t know how to phrase this um was your
Assumption well well it was it’s interesting to hear you say like going into college that you didn’t have nutrition figured out right um because I think people are like oh look look at Bailey you know like man she’s she’s got it dialed in she must have you know
She’s probably born this way you know but um you’ve had even struggles with that that I think really will resonate with people because again they look at you on the competition floor and they’re like you know holy cow you know abs and great hair like uh you know it’s like
Like she she just she was born with it you know but I think people love to hear about that kind of stuff too yeah um and that’s another thing that I have to get over is I don’t think that people want to hear that so I I’m excited to be able
To be more vulner vulnerable in those parts of my lives and and share that I struggle with a lot of the same things that other people struggle with and yeah be able to relate to them and and know that we all go through those things together and again like it you do
See the highlights a lot but there are the struggles as well can can we drill into them at all like I think um for female athletes I think it’s probably for male athletes too but like body image and and nutrition especially like people think um they’re the only person
Having that problem but like so have you ever with that y 100% um I think it’s an ongoing battle too um I specifically remember whenever I was trying to get into CrossFit originally it was because I wanted to change the way that I looked um I was
Like I mentioned earlier I don’t want to be like not sensitive um but I was walking down the golf course and I could feel like my stomach like moving and that wasn’t what would happen when I was in gymnastics and I I originally wanted to do CrossFit to change the way that I
Looked and it’s really sad because I wasn’t like what I saw in the mirror and I specifically remember when I was like dieting very very strictly I would like take a brownie and taste it and then I would spit it back out cuz I didn’t want
That I was very very dial dialed in to the point where it was extremely imbalanced uh like Tyler and I would be on road trips and he’d be like the only option that we have are like chicken tenders because we are in the middle of
Nowhere I’d just rather not eat wow so I was very imbalanced and that turning point of when I spit that brownie out I looked in the trash can and I was like probably not a good idea I need to get a grip on that and so I started
Releasing what I looked like and started fueling for my performance and I still think that it’s an ongoing battle like we talk about um to be strong like you have to have mass on you and so that’s a battle that I have to fight and and with
My own self of like it doesn’t matter what I’m looking like that’s not my goal my goal is the performance and you have to look at your why of like God also calls us to take care of our temples which is our bodies and I wasn’t taking
Care of it because I was obsessed with that and so that is a struggle that I’ve had that I’ve had to figure out a good balance of now it’s not about what I look like it’s about being healthy and feling for my life and feeling for performance and yeah I would say it’s
Still an ongoing battle it’s not something that I’m just like checked the box like I’ve fixed that so it’s a struggle that I share with women as well and I just want to be able to help people know that like being healthy and feeling yourself for life is beautiful
And and you’re strong in that um don’t have to look like the Barbie doll and that’s just not a realistic thing in our lives um that’s healthy and I just think that God created us uniquely and we’re beautiful for that so trying to help that acceptance but doesn’t mean that we
Can neglect taking care of ourselves you know 100% yeah I think it’s really really well articulated I think the sport that we’ve all chos the lifestyle we’ve all chosen it it put more of a premium on on true Health like like being able to move being able to do
Things being able you know being better at life period than the Aesthetics of it but it’s just we also have Instagram we also have like you know constantly you’re also constantly mess with you’re looking at everything all of the details and but I also learned very quickly that
That lifestyle and focusing on the Aesthetics was so fleeting and there was no security or balance and it was so unhealthy for me and even my hormones as a a woman like I was so irritable I was so exhausted I was frail getting injured and I was like at some point like
Enough’s enough yeah like we got to shift our focus and start focusing on being healthy do people um I you do like some nutritional counseling like do but is that is that the more frequent question you get like what do people kind of reach out to you about and ask
For guidance or help or I think a lot of it is scientific for nutrition um whether they want to perform better or they want to get a a better grasp on their health but a lot of it is emotional coaching through like nutrition in our bodies and
Our body image and essentially and I’ve seen a great shift recently of kind of taking a step back and not being like I want to look perfect and I want to look like this it’s more of like how can I balance my my life in my nutrition to be
Healthy how I want to be able to get down and move with my kids and fuel myself instead of we’re not idolizing an image we’re looking and shifting our Focus to being healthy and that’s been really cool um but I also think sharing the struggles has been helpful because I
Try not to to be an unrealistic idea of like what you should look like and and I think that will be something that I navigate as well when whenever um competitive CrossFit is over it’s like what does my life look like now um and yeah just navigating through
That knowing that we’re all dealing with it so let’s talk about it yeah love that is that is that what good fight project is about or can you tell me more yeah yeah so that’s really cool um Tyler and I have a community that we’ve just started doing some challenges and and
Helping people understand the fundamentals of Health through through Wellness nutrition workouts moving your body and just kind of learning how to because we have so many things in life that we’re doing how can we um learn the basics and learn how to change our lifestyle not just diet to look for and
Have a certain image that we’re we’re aiming for we want to teach people the fundamentals of of life and health and take everything that we’ve learned and be able to pour it in the community and know that we’re doing life together and we’re sharing these struggles together
You’re not just by yourself and so that’s kind of what we’re we’re starting up is like that community and we’ve done a couple of challenges which has been really cool um and for people that don’t know that’s this is a it’s Facebook group yeah the good fight project yeah
Anything else they need to know about it come join us so that’s that’s where you find it you go to Facebook and and it’s the good we’re working on all the details um right now but yeah we’re excited for what’s to come um we’re we’re keeping these intentionally short
Because we want to leave people wanting more and hopefully you’ll come back and join us again um but I’d love to flip the page back to the fact that we’re approaching a new season yeah and um I would say you’re still very much in your athletic Prime and people are expecting
You to compete but is that what you want and is that what your what are your plans for this year yeah so my plans are definitely to compete but I’m also stepping into different stages of life like just getting married and then also what we’ve talked about pouring into um
The the community and so balancing these different uh stages of life and kind of making them all work together yes I’m going to compete and give my absolute best but I’m also really excited for what’s coming down the pipeline so stay tuned awesome um I think that’s the
Perfect place to leave it this is um I can’t speak for Jake but this is my favorite thing that I get to do for work love it love it SP absolutely no I do that joke sometimes but agree like the best part of working at Mayhem is the people and specifically there’s lot
Things we all get to do but like building relationships with you Tyler I’m the tit with you guys Sam and then many others there like Luke G I can name long long list but that’s the best part by far and it’s cool that we get to come
Here and hang out and like I learned a bunch about you that I didn’t know CU you end talking about cross all the time it’s like oh what happened before yeah so this is good yeah I would say the same thing about even being an athlete coming to Mayhem and and being
Surrounded by people like you guys and um some of the other coaches around and even athletes is it goes Way Beyond be on CrossFit and I think that’s what keeps us grounded is being able to have those vulnerable conversations about what’s going on with our lives and in
The bigger picture of like what’s God doing in your lives and and knowing that CrossFit is just kind of what we do it’s not who we are and being able to be led by people who who have that perspective of what the bigger picture and what crossfit’s actually doing um is so
Valuable to have and I’m just really grateful to be surrounded by all of you guys amen m my friend MH thank you guys for watching and uh we’ll see you next time

Yesssss my fave !!! Can’t wait
Wow, what an inspiration. Truthful, honest, humble, soft spoken, but competitive. Please do more podcasts with this athlete for others to aspire to
Great interview guys!!
Recommend telling those negative comments to just "watch the video till the end". At least get a full watch time view from the negativity lol
Love Baylee so much, her testimony in the video about her being a vessel for God was so powerful! Great role model for young women in sports, and an amazing woman ❤️
I just Love Baylee!! She shines Jesus and is a fierce competitor! Great podcast! Thank you Baylee for sharing your story! Blessings for this coming season!! Cheering for you!!❤
Great listen! Thank you. Looking forward to more of these. Would love to hear Jake’s story at some point
Baylee is so amazing! She is such a gift to CrossFit with spreading joy and God’s holiness through her!
Taking time to bring negativity from Chicago 🦇
What’s up with CrossFit and wives not wanting to take their partners last name. You’re such a celebrity just can’t do it? Maybe the next winner will have 5 names not only best Tia in the sport but in the names collected
How can ya not love her… Humble, sweet, kind as they come, loves God, has amazing morals, and let’s not forget super fit too. 💪💯❤️🙏🏻 #Fit4Life🏋️♂️ #Godbless🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 P.S. It also goes to show how utterly pathetic and stupid so many people are these days on social media. Emotionally stunted idiots everywhere.
So wonderful! God Bless!
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
She's a hottie!!!
I hope her and Tyler can make it to the games this year together. Would be so cool to have a couple there as individuals ❤
Have been doing the Good Fight Project 60 Day Challenge and have lost 13 pounds! More importantly I am learning to balance my nutrition, performance, and faith through building consistent habits! Baylee and Tyler truly are so supportive, knowledgeable, and a great representation of living a Christ centric life.
Baylee seems like one of the nicest people on planet Earth.
Love this video & this lady.
Taking the time to comment because it was really great hearing your story Baylee! Thank you for sharing it with us. Good luck this season, keep smiling x
I have listened to every Mayhem “podcast” (love the new hunt). I’ve never commented on a you tube video and have zero social media, but felt led
to comment on the inspiration that Baylee is exuding. Good for her; keep it up. He’s got the world in his hands.
Loved it!
I guess I was under the impression Baylee and Tyler met at Mayhem. When did you all start dating?
Yes please more Baylee❤
She has always inspired and impressed me with how she held herself and leaned on the Lord❤
