Just an Average Golfer giving unbiased opinions on all things golf, product tests, Golf travel vlogs and golf news!
I continue my quest to find another course off the Beaten Track and I find myself in Scotland which seems to have hidden gems around every corner today I’m in Donia on a James braid design that is a mix of lynx and Parkland golf a golf course described of one of
Golf’s Best Kept Secrets is about to be exposed in today’s episode and the same could be said about the golf clubs I’ll be using today and at just under 6,000 yards I want to find out if I can make golf a little easier for me and many others by using a rather unique
Concept that’s a big relief to see one go down the first I’d hate to have a big audience behind me and with only 134 yards to the flag you will notice a strange Club in hand it’s a hybrid the question is can I play better golf with a full bag of
Hybrids it takes two holes before the sight of the Solway fth hits I simply love playing golf with a view and I recently read an extract from a book called golf in the Kingdom by Michael Murphy which read you’re making a great mistake if you think the game is made
For shots the game is meant for walking I notice you hardly pay any attention to the walking part you see we all often get preoccupied by the next shot and as I keep saying make sure you take some time to have a good look around between each
Shot and golf becomes a whole lot more enjoyable my third hole or third tea has just got an incredible view a bit of draft as well but that is uh the Solway F and tomorrow we can’t see it but we’re over the other side of this estery
Hold your line ah it’s drifted drifted right we’re going to make our way up to what is going to be a new iume or it’s freshly laid turf at least anyway and it’s a new fth T and uh really opens up massive views of the SRI game which is
That’s what I love as you know and I look back down four it’s just a real good vantage point to see so much of the golf course that’s good surprisingly good distance control really good these things shock me a bit I’ll tell you well the show I just played was 87
Hybrid and uh I’ve got to say that I’m shocked as just uh how much our versatility is’s in within the whole set but I want to go back to a bit of a question we’re going to get to photo of the week very shortly when I ask for
Your comments down below but I want to know what do you think about playing a bag of hybrids is there still too much of a stigma attached to you being able to uh change your mindset and switch over to something like this know there’s been a lot of questions in today’s video
Uh but I’m really interested to get some feedback on is anybody taking a little bit of time to have a little bit of a browser around them something we’ve been encouraging every viewer to do I don’t even know you might even be taking a few more photos than you might have usually
Taking a little bit less time or concern about your score and just enjoying the surroundings so again any feedback welcomed and I’d love to think that we’re having some kind of impact on you enjoying your game a little bit more and today’s typical I mean the weather is
Pretty horrendous to be honest with you but you can still find so much uh absolute well just stunning scenery out on a golf course even in these conditions okay well wow I made it good today you know what I didn’t realize was the camera was still on when I said I
Was playing good I wasn’t being arrogant but uh at a lesson off Lou last week when we were away and uh everything seems to be clicking today at least anyway the course started Life as a 9-hole layout in 1903 but soon extended to 18 holes in 1911 and the legendary
James braid added his input to the course design in 1923 like so many golf course Forces World War II impacted heavily power fooot was reduced to 13 holes and a German bomb left an imprint on the ninth hole which Still Remains as an unnatural hazard in 1949 the course was restored
Back to 18 holes and remains relatively unchanged to the current day P foot Golf Club sits on the Scottish side of the border and was a 35b green feet at this time of year which Rises slightly in the main season the hybrid concept is from a
Brand called 11 and they also happen to be the sponsor of today’s video so before we go any further a big shout out and a thank you to them for supporting today’s episode I’ll be testing a full bag of hybrids and I will let you know my thoughts as we
Go roll out a bit more it’s the same old tale with all these clubs is that this is uh a 64° with a huge wide sole one of the wedges that are from 11 and it’s that same tail like I said it’s stigmas that are attach
You look at a club like that and you think oh I’m better than that you know what I mean that’s not what a golf club’s supposed to look like but I’ve been in multiple bunkers and it just makes life so easy to get out of and
Then if you want it’s a bit of a a flop shot you just use every bit of Bounce the width of sole and just pop the damn thing up but like I said we like to make golf as hard as we can not sure how I
Feel about putting a head cover on each of my clubs uh throughout every single shot or after every single shot I’m going to stop for one second I play seven holes and something that’s just dawned on me is that just how good first of all are the seven holes at pow foot
And powerfoot for me is definitely a cause that is off the Beaten Track I’ve not heard a great deal about it in the past and I just wondered as a series off the Beaten Track how much of it is sort of highlighted courses that maybe you’ve not seen before and it’s encouraged you
To go out and play them I I’d really like to know I mean obviously if it has it would be very encouraging to to read this is why I’m not winning a photo of the week cuz I am freezing here and she’s got me Stood Still while she’s
Taking photos continuously to keep up a winning streak so here it is not ideal conditions for photography but take your pick and comment down below so if you recall a few weeks ago I stayed at a place called The Curve in Glen capable and I played golf at
Southern s this week I’ll be staying in another property on the Cav Rock estate that sits overlooking the river nith more from there later I think it’s time we got back to the golf sit down good distance control again you know I think the thing is and I
Mentioned about the sort of stigma idea is that for me two comments really I said about stigma I also mentioned about that I’ve played well today and there was actually Tracy behind the camera who suggested yeah but am I playing well cuz I’m swinging hybrids and there’s half a
Truth in that because everything becomes a little bit easier because you don’t feel as though you need as much effort required my swing seemed to synchronize a little bit better and the sort of timing and Tempo was better so yeah unbeknown to me it was a really good
Comment made by Tracy that yeah I mean don’t get me wrong leis great lesson but I think that idea of just calming everything down a little bit and letting the club do the work is actually quite a yeah it’s a real valid point oh big
Break I got to that stage of the round where I’m absolutely Baltic to be honest with you and one hold to go I can’t wait to get to our accommodation later which is in familiar territory and I’ve not been there yet but it looks pretty decent so don’t go anywhere right that
Is us we’ve got about a 15minute drive onto uh our accommodation hot bath is what is needed right now and something nice to eat so and I can’t wait to show you around this place as well to be honest with you I think it’s this blue there it is
Well that’s the view from our property and uh it is just this place so it’s on the part of the Cave Rock estate where we stayed in the curve not so long ago and I’ll give you more details but uh bags are unpacked and this is where we’re going to be staying
For the next couple of nights and that’s going to be the View tomorrow morning it’d be nice if the Sun was shining we can’t have everything and we awoke to some of the most challenging weather we have faced so far to film an episode by what you’ve seen so far is I
Don’t know even know what hole we’re on three of our holes of just absolute brutal conditions that flag isn’t doing anywhere near because we’ll hunker down a little bit here it is absolutely horrendous and I just don’t know how if we can actually get this one finished

Another awesome video – and this week I’m selecting Andy D for my fave photo. This may be my first vote in your favor!
Try Braid Hills – a municipal course in Edinburgh and a real challenge.
Great filming!
I started playing with hybrids four years ago and currently looking to up grade. If it weren’t for hybrids, I probably wouldn’t be playing anymore. Enjoying the beautiful surroundings is almost an outer body experience as you can leave all that weighs on your mind and saddens the heart behind for a few hours.
A few years ago the local PXG recommended me to do all hybrids but I couldn't bring myself to it.
Another wonderful video! Hybrids seem to be interesting clubs, but I never hit them well. As I cannot choose one photo as best, Tracy A and Andy D are worthy of mention.
Andy A for mine, thanks for the superb content.
Tracy c…. travel destination Brora GC.

Beautiful course. A whole bag of hybrids? An absolute nightmare for me.😲I know they are supposed to be easy to hit, but not for this guy. They've always been more difficult than any other type of club for me.
Tracy A did It for me Andy. Another great Vid by the two of you. Keep It up.
Tracy a
Thank god you finally got to Silloth. Looks like you got the weather😂
Its a great course, really enjoyed planning it. My vote is Tracy B, sorry Andy.
Being outside and enjoying nature and the course is what I love most about golf. Unfortunately, now a days everyone is in a big hurry and crying about "slow play". Probably the same new age type urinated all over themselves at the WM Phoenix.
Hopefully you got to see the game yesterday!!! 😀😀😀
Tracy B
Another enjoyable watch. Thank you. My vote is for Andy C.
Love seeing your beautiful travelogs!
As far as those clubs are concerned, you couldn't pay me to play them but to each their own.
I am in the United States.
Long time watcher.
I had seen your earlier review of the Eleven clubs.
About a year ago I had asked the "AskGolfNut" YouTuber over their in England to Review the Eleven set.
He was so impressed with them he didn't do his regular 50 shot in-depth review. He hit about 10 shots. Every shot he hit went the same height and distance and spin. And he hadn't hit one in the center of the face.
After seeing another great review on I think Golf Monthly. I decided I should get a set.
Only one problem.
I had just purchased a set of used Ping G425 irons. 5-pw. I clanked them around the coarse all summer. When I had tested them in doors the winter before. They seemed fine. I figured I couldn't go wrong with Pings.
Today at lunch . My wife asked me why I had just sold my Pings the day before.
So i told her the whole story about not liking the Pings and how I had discovered the Eleven clubs . And I was thinking of ordering a set of Eleven's for my Birthday. In May. About the same time courses open back up in the state of Minnesota.
Even though you said you played well with them. I have seen you enough that you are a golf purist.
So if you are not going to game them . Maybe you can send them my way 🙂
64 deg's . Interesting ….
Well, more snow tonight. Every time it snows. It pushes golf course openings back another week.. They have been closed since Oct 1st. And ice on the lakes is still 18 inches thick 🙁
Great episode once again Andy, really looking forward to next weeks episode as we were out playing at Silloth that day as well.
Trouble is , all well and good when no one’s there , but due to course closures here in Bmth , you would never get the time to stop take pics and meander up the fairways , normally a 4 ball waiting hands on hips as you walk up to your tee shot !!!
I had thought about a hybrid set but purchase a one length club set instead. Had been playing with a one length iron before the purchase. I had used hybrids woods and felt comfortable doing so. But I do like the one length set.
Yes Andy I have tried to just take a minute to look at Gods beautiful creation and the unique area I live in, in the Charleston South Carolina area while I’m playing our crazy and wonderful game
How would you say these compared to the cobra t-rail? Sadly courses here aren’t as picturesque as the amazing courses you play. Also I’d rather someone eye me for using a hybrid iron than eye me for a horrible shot. lol.
I've been golfing for over 70 yrs, part of the fun is the scenery, wildlife exercis and the odd good golf shot (lol), This is the reason it has been my favourite sport for so long.
I currently changed out my long irons for hybrids. (3,4,5,6) and kept my normal irons and wedges. It makes golf so much easier and more fun.
Tracy B this week baby!!!
Tracy B for me. Great course.
awesome series! Those Eleven hybrids are definitely interesting. I would game them for fun.
I have considered switching to a full set of woods. Have played with a couple of people who played them and they played very well.
The issue I have with Hybrids is that they are just ugly. Most things that try to be two or more things at once are. Says the guy who occasionally chips with a 9 wood…
I like Tracy a. Her photos are a bit more saturated (maybe not overly realistic) but I like them better. I may use them in the future, but right now I am happy with my Miz JPX 923 Tours.
I’ve got Parkinson’s and just had back surgery but I’m a sprightly 50 something so still super keen to play, I’m thinking that a set of hybrids might be just what I need? With my restricted mobility.
Tracy B.
Nice of the Germans to help with course lay out.
Andy D for me this week. Sorry Tracy.
And And, what's with the putter? It isn't the Mezz.
Nice video Andy D
I play most of the time these days at the Grampians golf course in Victoria Australia, 18 holes sandscrapes. Love watching your stuff. We want to get better and sometimes I surprise myself, mostly not. Keep going.
Tracy A this week Andy, makes me want to plan some days away this season if it ever dries up. Playing Dunstanburgh soon and there are lots of good courses up in the North East/ Northumbria/ Cumbria to visit
