Since it hosted the first Championship Tour event ever in 1976, Sunset Beach has long stood as an old-school test of power surfing. And while timeless rail-to-rail surfing still dominates, a new school of surfers is beginning to redefine the wave with a more modern approach. Who will win out, and who heads to colder waters on a hot streak?

Semi-final two out in the water on this beautiful Hawaiian afternoon Ryan Kalan up against Jack Robinson winner is going to face off against Cano igarashi in the final here at the hurly pro Sunset Beach kenoa did you know have a feel that it the swell is coming of a more Northerly
Aspect so that’s going to move the takeoff Zone we can see the Surfers moving further up to the point Jack Robinson’s going to get the inside and get the first wave easy top turn for Jack looks back saw there was no future in that wave and
Kicks out hands of priority over to Ryan cman yeah and it happens sometimes I like the paddle battle right there no one’s giving an inch to the other and you see R up and ring arcal steady off the bottom carving off the top Fades that bottom turn leverage
Off the bottom and a nice lip glide on the backand for Ryan cman so early Advantage is going to go to arcal at the beginning stages of this heat Jack was just a little faster but in the end it rolled out that the second wave was better so it didn’t matter
Anyways nice first turn here for Ryan and very critical finish and vertical right there very tight in the pocket good surfing for him here we go with Robinson up on the point and that one again super tapered on the angle so no wall in front of him he decides to kick
Out we talk about statistics we’re we’re using a threeyear comparison for the men when we put all those numbers together I had to get the that’s St cuz I’m a surf tur I’m a surf turkey and I I want to get my numbers right you know I
Spit out a lot of numbers all day long Jesse so here we go you’re right you’re right J Jack Robinson mounting a comeback right now vicious second turn for Robinson looking at placing the lip quick feet but not quick enough for that clamping final section the 3.35 will
Take him to the lead and dare say that he’s going to get that number yes no doubt about it he’s probably going to get that number in the first turn itself um end section for him to really finish on a good note but as you see here
Beautiful wave waited and paid off nice very tight carve and here where he gets more aggressive on that second turn just pushing at the back foot getting very tight and right here just a little bit laid nothing that he could have done really to make that better but beautiful surfed
Wave you see it bringing it all the way back around right in that pocket you could see that there’s a um a l like kind of a bump going through and he just found that sweet spot once again right here just pushing it more getting it more vertical the judges are going to
Like that wave that was well served and it just shows you the potential right for Jack who’s been putting through big numbers this entire enre comp what he is his potential to go excellent once again and this is what happened 5.07 Aral retakes the lead Jesse yes as you see
Right here that was the previous wave he took off and Bing back out he found this wave halfway through and just Unleashed right there look how much control like he’s having on the turns he’s just relaying so much on that raay on the bottom turn and getting a lot of and so
We know what they’re capable of and we’ve already witnessed uh the incredible Surfing by both of those as they push each other here we go with Ryan Kanan scratching into this one under the priority of Jack Robinson cam just maybe a repositioning or just realized that that wave had no future in
It yeah had a lot of bump and lump going through it and jack up and right it here we go with Jack Robinson slashing turn to open up harms all the way back two turns and fist pump Jack Robinson chipping away at it surely he’s going to get the score that he
Needs a 3.24 he’s going to get that and probably a little extra and take the lead off of Ryan Kalan as you see it right here very calm waiting for that steep moment right there and just unleashing putting all his weight on the back foot pressuring throwing buckets and right here just
Very smart kept it critical kept the bordom rail and finish it strong right here laying the rail basically the whole inside rail all his weight is on top of that coming out right here got very calm waited for the perfect moment just bringing everything around look at his
Eyes it’s looking all the way back to the foam and that’s what makes this turn so special cuz he makes it extended he makes it complete and he finishes on his foot very comfortably and he knows it uh for that last wave Jack Robinson on that performance Jack pushing the issue here
On Ryan Ryan’s going to take the bait and use his priy frothy face here for Ryan Kanan caught on his heels muscles a nice backand carve Frozen up there in some difficult water and is able to do it twice that was not an easy way to
Dude you got a magic board under your foot right there because once you took off that was like snowboarding on Powder like there’s so much whitewash you could see that he like it’s so hard for you to engage your rails and fins because there’s so much air with water yeah and
He just ignored that powder here’s the replay very hard to do like look at that like how much water is moving and just he ignored it like beautiful first clean turn kind of setting up for this beautiful finish right here very critical accelerated like that means he
Pushes back foot right on the perfect time see Ryan paling under the priority of Jack Robinson Ryan cman is going to take another one another foamy face and you can see the fins just skip out there for Ryan cman and back to the three minute Mark and semi-final number two all the scores
And waves ridden up on the score bug there six waves for arcal five waves for Jack Robinson Ryan count on his Seventh Wave here nice face nice stop top carve for cman back up again nice attack to the lip there getting Rhythm down the line two big turns needs a finish under the
Lip hook amazing Jack actually looked at that wave and didn’t want to take it he might have got caught right there actually from that foam but beautiful first opening turn right here just setting up for the second and third turn as you see a tight in the pocket a
Little bit more aggression in it and just an under the lip right there so tied very hard to do it now starting to claw his way back Jack Robinson right behind him lengthy time on the rail there just laying back into that turn hooks it again Banks it in the troubled
Water for the Finish beautiful way from him and a little smoother face here for Jack for the beginning as you see it he was able to get more on Rail and just Unleashed that um turn got a little bit caught but this second turn is just sharp like on Rao perfect executed and
Finish it off strong both very good waves very well served but check out this turn right here just laying it so much that he’s putting his body in the water as that’s that’s why all that water kind of got him getting mixed up right there and second turn just the
Opposite just clean and perfect that men’s final is going to be one to look out for four especially with Jack Robinson going excellent over and over again here at Sunset next up speaking of finals our women’s final will be in the water with two Bright Stars
