[Applause] Welcome sports fans wrestling fans WIA fans and all of the above to the 2024 WIA D2 Dodgeville Regional we are here at Dodgeville high school today this is the Evansville wrestling YouTube broadcast team with myself Mason Brown schwag John Fry our director and of course today we have John bag and Chad

Howlet with us helping out in the booth and that is going to be very exciting to get uh our Evansville wrestling club youth coach in the booth today along with running backs football coach for the Blue Devils Chad howlet once again from last week I’m telling you we got a

Huge Regional attorney today we have probably 7 to eight potential D2 State Champs in the house in this Regional today it’s very exciting we have a very special trip we’re going to bring you into the interview Booth here with myself and John bag we have Ryan Taylor former UW

All-American D1 125b wrestler owner and proprietor of RT and Elite just up the road here from Dodge High School Ryan how you doing today good good good and I’ll let John say a word too how you doing oh I’m doing great uh excited to be here like you said just there there’s

So much tail down there and I can’t wait to get it going so Ryan you’ve got a lot of kids at a lot of regionals today yeah but you probably had the highest number of kids here today in this gym uh you think they’re ready yeah oh yeah they’re

Ready yeah all right great well uh I’ll tell you you’ve been here you wrestled in Ohio for St Paris Graham this is the beginning of the postseason tournament season what are these kids thinking what do they have to be thinking in order to take it to that next level on the podium

Uh I mean I think our guys trained for this all year um everything else is Stepping Stones this time of the year and uh this is when I think that they start to loosen up and have the most fun so I think they’re ready uh I think

We’re going to have guys wrestling above the level that they’ve been wrestling all year and they’re ready to go so yeah we’re very much looking forward to it obviously we got a couple notables that that train at your club uh Danny Heiser of course a two-time state champ Owen

Seph rude Charlie M I think we have Reed spurley today is that true that’s the rumor all right we’re looking forward to that Shane rashan I mean you got a lot of kids here I can’t possibly name them all right I know you don’t know what

Their rankings are no and and why not uh we don’t look at him um we’ve had guys you know Danny Heiser I think was ranked fifth sixth seventh in the state you know as freshman year coming in and you know obviously ended up winning the

State title so we uh we tell our guys don’t worry about that and come in and train anything can happen at the end of the year and I think most of the time if we do the right things that it comes out on top for them so I mean that’s the

That’s the right mentality I know parents that have kids at wrestle I know uh coaches out there I mean what what are we saying don’t read the rankings don’t read The Forum stop looking at track don’t look at track wrestling just go out there and wrestle yep and uh and

And we’ll see that today uh I got to tell you tell us a little bit about RT Elite what you do out there what the philosophy is yeah uh we try to start kids as young as we can um you know kind of get them stepped into it we got a lot

Of kids in the pipeline right now that I think is uh going to surpass surpass this group later on here because they’ve had more time with it and got to see what these guys are capable of doing and and I think it gives them even more confidence but uh you know we’re pretty

We’re hard on the kids uh but in a good way I think they all respect what we’re doing once they get accustomed to the system um you know I do ask a lot of them but I don’t ask anything that uh that I don’t think they’re capable of so

Right and again how how does a kid find out what his limit is if he isn’t pushed a little bit to find that right right you got to get him out of their comfort zone a little bit yep and uh well I can tell you I’ve had a a number of kids

Myself my own kids go through your program it’s it’s a different level it’s definitely uh a very intense room uh one of the positives I think you have just without having you know all American Ryan Taylor as the technician you have all the competition that’s in that room

I mean that is probably the toughest pound-for-pound room in the state got to be yeah I mean uh yeah it’s it’s tough I mean everybody you know from you know Colin fry and Shane ran to to Danny Heiser to you know Ross Chris to Teague Perkins and Blake Theory I mean uh I

Mean everybody’s getting pushed everybody’s getting beat every night um sometimes it gets a little sometimes it gets a little uh ramped up a little too much and we got to tone it down but uh it’s a great place to and it’s a lot we’re trying to create the atmosphere

That I had growing up and we’re getting closer every day so that that’s awesome Ryan I ask you too here how do how does your practice plan change throughout the year like where do you start the year like to now this postseason run obviously we’re not we’re not trying to

Kill guys out there you know like how does that differ how do you obviously you’re very seasoned with that yeah so uh you know a lot of our guys we we run them really really hard during the uh during the summer and during the fall um

We’re getting so last week we had our last hard practice we’re kind of tapering in we got some of our young guys this their first time doing it so uh we start to taper a little bit this time of year because you know the work’s been done um the state titles have been

Won already you know the last two weeks we just try to make sure all of our guys that are banged up uh not healthy you know cuz we got some guys that that are coming off injuries and whatnot um we try to make sure they’re ready to go and

They’re as healthy as they can be coming into this tournament series well I’ll tell you Ryan thank you so so much for coming into Booth with us today uh do you have any parting words for the fans the kids or anyone else that’s going to be watching this

Broadcast today uh just keep your eyes peeled there’s going to be a lot of exciting stuff happen and and uh I’m going to bounce around here today I got kids at D1 D2 D3 sectionals all over or uh regionals all over the place so um we’ll see how it goes all right well

Super Regionals so we have uh Sugar River Co-op Belmont Platville Broadhead Judah Columbus uh Cuba City Benton Southwestern Co-op Darlington blackhaw Co-op Dodgeville ederton Evansville loai uh Monroe Portage and the riy Cambridge Fall River Randol Co-op we have a pile A pile of ranked kids now again we don’t really

Care about rankings but there’s something to talk about pile of ranked kids at just about every weight class at this Regional today and we also bring in Chad howlet into the booth so we’re going to have a three-headed monster there’s a lot going on here I don’t know

If you’re looking at your screen but you can see coach ranki he’s clearly getting ready for something hopefully wrestling but anyway so we’ll we’ll have Chad holl coming in here shortly uh I’ll tell you what John piles and piles and piles of potential good matches the brackets

Haven’t even come out yet but we we know where guys are kind of fall out at where they’re going to shake out I mean you can see finals all over the board every weight class are going to be tough today oh absolutely I mean throw a dart at at

The weight classes and and and you’re going to find a potential you know State finalist or placement match it just the talent is unreal here I mean we are literally going to have third place matches today that will Encompass one or potentially two kids that will be on the

Podium at the call center absolutely this is I’ll tell you what all of postseason wrestling is great all of it’s exciting I love it all obviously but I couldn’t think of a better gym to be in than Dodgeville high school today oh I we we we actually drove in together

Today as you know but the fans might not and uh I I was in awe of the Dodgeville facilities here I I I I really dig the place it it’s very cool very cool setup we have uh as John’s kind of showing us right now you kind of have like a

Walking Track uh above the gym we’re above on the opposite side of that walking Track overlooking the gym you have the bleachers down in there very easy to get in and out from both levels sort of like uh Port Washington had a sort of similar thing to this which is

Neat but this is just a really cool multi-purpose uh facility and obviously we really don’t care about all of that stuff what I care about is the three mats on the floor right what what what’s the old saying the the best uh the best basketball floor space you could have is when you

Throw wrestling mats on it right but anyway we we won’t know the seeds yet we anticipate getting uh finalized brackets here shortly when they’re done with that that as you probably know as parents fans coaches and the like that that seating meeting right now is probably as intense as the

Finals matches will be absolutely I mean coaches coaches get after it and they take care of theirs yep that’s their dog fight they got to go in there and fight for their guys and try to get the best possible seed you know give your kid the best opportunity at advancing another

Week so I want to talk to you a little bit last week at the conference tournament we had a little bit of fun we we’ve done it in the past we’ve done it a number of times uh with dual meets we never done it at a tournament but we did

The Rick Flair hair of the conference uh last week we we awarded that to Caleb Davis ederon wrestler um obviously he was very excited about it there’s a lot of work that uh Caleb put into that hair to to earn that well-deserved uh award we are going to be doing that again

Today we will have the Rick Flair hair of the regional now obviously Caleb Davis would be a front runner but because he is the hair of the conference we’re going to preclude him from the running despite the fact that very it it’s very possible he might win that

Again I mean he might run through the whole the whole gamut with with those locks but we’re going to do it we’re going to have a different winner today we’re pretty excited about we hope that we can get them on the air as well but you know regionals is kind of a funny

Situation you know this could be the end of a lot of kids Seasons a lot of kids careers potentially or this could be a stepping stone onto greater things John it’s not that long well maybe it is that that you were at a regional well it it’s I’m trying to do

Some math now well you it’s been a while it’s been about 20 years so we’ve been told we’re not allowed to do math on this show cuz we’re so poor at it but yeah I mean in and for me you know it it I think the last time I was in

Postseason wrestling was like 32 33 years ago which is a while but uh I tell you I I I can feel right now exactly how I felt at you know 17 years old at my my last regional tournament and it you know that that sort of that feeling of

Reality hits you like brick you go out there and you know I was fortunate enough to put in probably my best effort you know during that tournament um up to that point and you know that’s what you’re really looking for out of the kids here oh absolutely you know and looking at it

From my perspective now it’s like you know I kind of wish that I would have had that at at a younger age you know cuz I like you you you had mentioned earlier you know this could be the end of some kids’ careers today and you know

And they’re going to look at this 20 years from now and think to themselves hey did I put in the right amount of work did I do it right or maybe it doesn’t mean that much to them and they’re just out there having fun but

You know uh it’s a big deal today anyway we just want to uh give a little give a little thanks to the people that helped make this possible uh those are uh the uh the the fine people uh of course our Channel sponsor the night all

Tell you what um I’ve never looked back right no I remember going there as a little kid mom and dad you know would always they’d go down and uh they they’d be getting dinner there and the kids would go to the the um the skating ring

But we’d always stop in and try to get a couple extra dollars out of mom and dad you know and that that was that was just the Evansville life growing up there it was awesome all right folks well thank you to the night all of course and we’ll

Uh morning hours here last night setting up it’s a it’s a Evansville I tell you what you want to compete with Evansville you better be ready to get no sleep that’s all I’m saying fact that’s all I’m saying anyway going back to today’s uh lineup I think what we’ll have is we

Have uh essentially uh it’s like a modified 16-man bracket with a true second and a true third or true fourth excuse me so it it it’s a lot of wrestling last year we were at Sugar River and it it’s a long day it’s a marathon stay with us it’s great uh

You’re going to see a pile A pile of good wrestling later late afternoon early evening there’s going to be some wonderful Championship matchups the officials are coming down they will meet you at the center so it sounds like we are getting somewhere I can’t really hear the in-house announcer but

Equipment ah the special equipment checks that’s what they’re running through right now that’s always classic the old special equipment checks but tell what what classifies it as special I don’t know but I W I got a chance to walk around and and I caught this on the

Wall on on in the uh old gym here the Dodge Wrestling Hall of Fame and low and behold if you look to the third column and go down you’ll see a very familiar name to Evans folks that is coach Jared Meyer Dodgeville Wrestling Hall of Fame

Member Jared Meyer so he’s not just a really nice coach he’s also kind of a heck of a wrestler absolutely no we got a good one yeah so uh congratulations Jared Meer although that probably happened a long time ago but he probably didn’t even realize that we were going

To run around and and poke around his old Stomp and rounds and find that but very exciting stuff it’s always good to see evanso folks recognized for uh you know doing wonderful things in the sport uh in other places so I mean congrats coach Meyer even though it’s probably a

Number of years off from being inducted but right we’re excited for you nonetheless and that was a great thing to see this morning one of the one of the many great surprises we had including that interview with uh wrestling All-American Ryan Taylor how fantastic was that absolutely so lots of

Good stuff happening today that’s just the beginning we got a pile of stuff going on but man we got kids moving it looks like oh what what else do we have you ask upcoming wrestling events Tuesday February 13th the top two teams here will meet the top two teams in the

Other Regional for the D2 team sectional at River Valley and River Valley does a pretty good job of streaming that and we’ll be sure to tune in ourselves and then uh Saturday February 17th Saturday at the D2 sectional sea at Wisconsin Dells and we will be bringing that live

To you again very excited about that opportunity that is going to be a bear the battle to get to State and of course February 22nd through the 24th the individual state tournament at the coal Center will be there as fans watching and and uh hopefully cheering on many

Many Blue Devil wrestlers we haven’t been able to lock down that contract yet for the individual State yeah although I tell you what I I think we could do a good job that’s all I’m saying oh March 1st through 2nd team State at the Fieldhouse very much looking forward to

That obviously last year Evansville had the privilege to go to Team state it was very exciting a lot of fun for our kids a lot of fun for our community uh very much a a community building uh thing to see like you know a really good portion

Of the school and parents and you know all these EV families that don’t even have wrestlers at the old barn cheering on your your kids that’s just an amazing feeling it’s a great environment there it it like you said so much history it that was awesome last year and hopefully

We can get back soon yeah and I believe well hopefully we get back this year but you got to come out top one or two here in this Regional team scores the top two will move on to the team sectional dual meets on Tuesday and I’ll tell you what

But there is a lot of good teams I mean I think certainly Evansville is in the argument Loi for sure uh do doville has got to be in the argument Sugar River got to be in the argument Belmont Platville went to sectionals last year they got to be in the argument

Absolutely um Darlington Blackhawk I mean we have a lot of good stacked teams here today it is going to be an absolute Juggernaut to come out as a top two no doubt about it so we are p patiently waiting patiently waiting I’ll jump in here uh we have some Chatters we have

There oh say it do that stars bangled b h away or the land of the pr and the home of the pra [Applause] thank You you know you you mentioned that they oh sorry go ahead John uh that they’re not releasing the brackets what is why would they do that is that uh so I I think that’s to and I’m not sure but I think that’s just to um I think at one

Time that was done so as you didn’t see like weight jumping because that’s what I was wondering maybe kids would they’d get it released earlier before and then they would switch kids so some of the more Northern uh regions uh start a little later cuz the kids have to travel

Further oh okay so they may have an hour delay so they wait until everybody’s weighed in before they release all that stuff that that’s solid but anyway we are getting ready for action we’ve got BS populating and we’re going to have matches going right now we got uh

So if you’re looking at the whole gym Matt 3 is on our left Matt one is in the middle and Matt two is to the right um we’ll have those correctly identified up on our um broadcast here but it looks like we’re going to have 113 a couple of

113b matches and a 120lb match so again these are some of the preliminary matches in the brackets um we’ve got Monroe and Portage over on Matt 2 uh looks like Darlington Blackhawk and Sugar River on Matt ju and ederton and ederton and Belmont Platville on mat

Three so anyway there we go we we’ve just been handed uh paper brackets um so we’ll see what what we have for preliminary matches but we’re we’re going we’re going strong here we’re I think we’re ready to go y That’s wrestle here we go oh here

We go Matt two Matt 2 is starting Shu from enroe and Jordan from Portage there’s the first takedown of the tournament by Jordan and he lost uh he lost his headgear in it yeah they’ll reset Matt one we have David AR ariles from Darlington Blackhawk and Zack bear from

Sugar River bear in on a single right away then Matt 3 we have Jonah Martin ederton and Colton Isel Belmont Platville at 120 pounds we got any Evans kids coming up in preliminary uh bouts I’m scouting through the brackets here I’m trying to find one

And you up Chad yep you got me oh yeah hey hey Chad holid in the booth as well how we doing fellas real good fantastic well you mentioned it earlier Mason but this is kind of a Primo venue to host an event like

This yes you go to I I mean you got to love it you got to love it we’re having a lot of fun it’s already like pretty packed in here um there’s more room you’re going to have to squeeze in but there and I IM there’s going to be more people

Coming absolutely the first Evansville wrestler isn’t until 157 Adrien Wessel all right will have a looking forward to that meanwhile we’ve got a a potential pin situation on Matt three is winner by fall and had the Cradle locked up but was just out ran out of real estate over

There and then we’re getting back points over at Matt 2 as well Jordan’s got the Cradle locked up trying to get that knee on the side maybe flatten him out a little bit more there’s a cradle again on Matt one cradles [Applause] everywhere it’s like daycare right you know what Chad that’s all

Right that’s that’s a good one so coming off our conference meet Monroe’s got a 113 wrestler there I don’t believe that uh he wrestled at conference yeah you know I don’t recall and maybe this is a situation where um he’s coming down away I actually think

He’s coming up I think Noah shu is actually a 106 pounder but with vle being looks like we got wrestler coming up on mat 3 unless of course the bracket is all well I could have certainly missed something I’m known for that I think we’ve got Colton Martin staged over

There it looks like Cole Martin yep I did miss that I do apologize we got and he’s coming up against uh Loi Hayden stru Clark couple of sophomores ready to get after it for their teams col Martin been a very exciting uh to the team this year um

Certainly has a very high energy style oh absolutely Colton got his first Varsity action about 3 four weeks ago I think so yeah we had a spot open up and he seemed to jump right in and fill that spot so love to see [Applause] that bar with another cradle locked up on mat

One looks like he’s going to get the fall here though he got the knee in the side always seems to be a forgotten there’s the fall part of the technique Martin with a quick stand up sh Clark with a return Shu over there trying to Martin’s

Got some come back he’s got Jordan on his back looks like Martin is getting tured over a little bit but he’s got a two count and he’s able To belly out get to his base nowu Clark trying to run a half got to peel that off got the wrist that’s that’s trouble yeah and there is winner by Fall truce Clark over Colton [Applause] [Applause] Martin [Applause] mat three we’ll have cord order Dodgeville and Conor eall from Monroe I

Think or yep I think they got that Rong yep they got the Ron Feller out there yeah the mro kid sitting at the table Darlington Blackhawk was ready to wrestle can’t blame him NOP he’s ready to go he’ll take on anyone he don’t care let’s go you know I’m surprised it doesn’t

Happen more often at these tournaments [Applause] right Noah Shu down there trying to complete the comeback here he was down I believe 10 to two at one point and now he’s getting more Backs he’s got to get that arm out of there careful that that might tie it up right there yep uh-oh he’s getting more backs again that’s going to be that could be it has he got the arm he does he does well he’s that’s a heck of a great the head

Needs to be a true third because if that first round kid loses and he battles back for fourth right you know why why isn’t he allowed to if he hasn’t wrestled the third place kid why isn’t he allowed to battle because that’s a seating issue next

Weekend over on Matt 2 we got Aiden Duren Dodgeville and Tyler rip Loi just starting meanwhile uh holdorf and butts will go into the second period scoreless lot of hard hand fighting front headlock yeah I mean clearly it’s going to be an upper body type match yep these guys uh

Well at least they didn’t show it they didn’t show their you know their their low singles and Ankle picks and all that wonderful stuff yet maybe they’re waiting that very well could be yeah saving that for the third but you know you get up in the 190 215 285b weight

Yeah the shape of the 2115 and heavyweights has definitely changed over the last 10 15 years kind of like football with you know defensive ends and tackles and linebackers absolutely for sure I mean I I got a A friend of mine that was on the 81 Rose Bowl team from the University

Illinois starting defensive end and he was 245 lbs great that’s that’s like a a big safety now yeah yeah maybe a little too big but I’m going to you know a lot of these scores too you lose you’re done you know so maybe they’re not being they’re not

Middle school program right now so we’re we’re just sort of continuing to reload and also uh even get uh kids at the high school level that maybe haven’t wrestled before and turning them into you know quality Varsity wrestlers score points for for the team all part of the process that’s for

Sure well certainly all part of the equation to success Mason correct me if I’m wrong and you know I will yeah that’s a fact um this fourth place match can that be if the wrestlers have wrestled each other is that automatically going to be um I think

That’s a no contest a no thank you for the filling that in I wasn’t sure if that give him a second chance same with the second yep you know if they had so if the winner of that uh uh about 174 for example in the 106 category uh if

They had already wrestled they’ll no contest that so it’s kind of like uh you know wrestle backs you you’ll have some of them you won’t have some of them and you know typically I think we we rock half the weights maybe yep don’t like
