Here’s why being on plane in your golf swing is so important my objective is to create a straight line path for the club face through the ball like that through impact if I’m not I’m playing so if I take it up to the top and go underneath
Like this like many players are told to shallow it out like that I would then have to roll it or continue to try to pull and I’d never really square that up all right on the other side of that if I go up to the top like that and I came
Over the plane like this I would have to start sliding this handle like that now you see it eventually gets on plane however it’s on path it slips right back off cuz the handle’s ahead the face is to the right you’re going to hit it way
To the right or you’d get right there and roll it into the ball hitting that dreaded pull hook that we don’t like so we have to be on plane right here to cast that club down and fold it through that’s why we really don’t want to do
That shallowing it out move like this cuz I’m stuck behind I want to get here and use my hands to fold it through on plane my body goes into a dynamic response I’m in the positions I want to be in all right we’ve got to be careful
When we take golf lessons we go to our local Club Pro and they’re telling us well go up to the top like this and then start turning with the handle to get the club on plane cool you’re on plane but guess what it’s not the end all be all
You can still be on plane and screw it up here comes the handle with you that club face is now pointed out to the right and if you were to keep trying to turn as much as you could to square it that ball simply wouldn’t go anywhere as you could
Tell that wasn’t as loud the ball speed wasn’t as fast it didn’t get as high up on the screen there as my other one dead you can’t hit the ball as far or as high swinging like that as you can folding the club face through with your
Release with your hands all right so a lot of coaches out there are going to say well if you don’t pull into the ball you can’t keep the club face Square that’s not true the club’s own speed through that orbit just like that is what keeps that face Square just like
That that that inert motion through the club is what’s keeping that face Square through there you don’t have to pull it it’s in fact if you do start pulling it it feels like a safety blanket but you get so far out ahead you’ll have to start guessing at just how much you have
To manipulate the face through there and you’re probably going to start hitting it right and hitting it left so trust that folding release we want to come through like this where that face is pointed kind of up and to the left on the way through there with one hand that
Would look just like that we don’t want to have to roll it we don’t want to have to pull it we want to just release it and Fold It Up on plane just like That

Is folding the same as throwing clubhead at ball?
Nice job Dan.
awesome stuff.
does the right hand stay palm down on the downswing or do you have more details on that? Thanks love the content
Is the first move on the downswing still a force transfer onto left foot? Cheers
Great video, my man. Looking forward to more.
Would be great to have a video from you about hitting draws and fades with your swing sequence. I find the best way for me to make swing changes is to learn the process of drawing and fading the ball with it, essentially creating a predictable ball flight that allows instant feedback of whether i swung as intended. If i have control over draws and fades, i find it a lot easier to find a straight shot then 🙂
Can you hit a draw with that delivery ?
Definitely an unappreciated golf coach. Love the videos. Looking forward to more.
Great video, can't wait for 40 degrees and the snow to melt so I try all this out (don't pull the handle, stay frontal, keeps you on plane)… keep the videos coming!
are you scooping your left hand after impact?
Correct. The aim of the swing is to put the clubhead into orbit around the hands.
Awesome video, Dan 👌
Hey Dan great video I played in college and most good players suck at explaining this but all of them do it. The obsession with shallowing and rotation is a strange one giving people nightmares all over the world. Keep doing a great job!
Bradley Hughes and John Erickson ABS .The 4:30 position
Great concept, but can you do separate lessons addressing grip that you recommend for this to happen. Also, lessons on setup/stance, ball position, posture and keeping it, the takeaway, backswing motion, how to start the downswing, how to get on plan, using ground forces, impact/release. Some slow motion videos would help, or slow motion video analysis of pros who swing this way. No disrespect, but I believe players need more in depth details in order to implement this concept successfully. Thanks
Great video as usual and continues to challenge the mainstream that has cost me a fortune and not helped! Appreciate the lessons and can’t wait for the new facility to open. These videos are awesome, but you have to trust and do it as old habits really die hard 😅
Hmm…looks scoopy and flippy, am i misunderstanding something?
Awesome Dan!!!
Dan is Steve Pratt's swing the same concept as yours or is there a difference? love these videos.
Kill the ANNOYING MUSIC!!
Hi Dan…saw this video yesterday and went to a simulator swing room today to try it out. With the irons it worked really well! Not necessarily further, but very solid contact and pretty straight….plus I became much more aware of clubface control. I also tried the hockey drill you did with Sarah in another video and that changed my idea of swing path…much more up and down than I thought…less around myself. BUT….I really struggled with driver. Just ended up with quite weak fades and it never felt like a solid hit. Is there a different swing thought for driver than irons? I can't seem to find a vid you have done for driver. Thanks Dan…love this teaching!
When you address the ball and swing do you focus on the ball as a whole or look at a certain part of the ball? I find myself looking at the ball as a whole because focusing on a small part of the ball is incredibly uncomfortable for some reason. I think I finally figured out the fold but am prone to hitting fat shots. The one time I focused way way in front of the ball and hit a good shot…again uncomfortable though my eyes always want to go back to the ball or sometimes my club face.
