On Sunday, as Canadian Nick Taylor came down the stretch — needing a birdie on 18 to force a playoff and potentially win his second event in less than one year — he delivered. Then, he birdied it twice more in a playoff against Charlie Hoffman. This week on Out of Bounds we’re talking Taylor’s huge win, the changes and reaction to a disastrous WM Open in Phoenix, players sounding off at an intoxicated crowd, and looking ahead to the Genesis Open. Tiger Woods is back and has a brand new apparel brand, too!

If it goes right it’s a slice if it goes left it’s a hook if it goes straight it’s a miracle this is out of bounds if it’s happening in the world of golf we’re talking about it coverage debate discussion progolf and local golf let’s do it this is out of bounds and here

Your host Nate charman and Josh derso all right welcome back to the outof bounds podcast jure so Nate Sharman here keeping you inbounds with the latest from around the golf world Super Bowl weekend golf’s Super Bowl we had a little uh golf in Las Vegas uh whole busy weekend and hey Yours Truly

Even won a couple bucks how about that right I’d love to see that with the Nick Taylor pull um on I believe it was what was Wednesday you texted me said it on the Pod too as well so uh Nick Taylor getting in The Winner Circle but yeah

Josh a busy weekend for sure you know couldn’t get a lot of golf done especially on on that Thursday right but um they they did come out and play a ton of golf on Sunday uh some of the leader especially because they went no playoffs

Too so Nick the likes of Nick Taylor who in that final group he had to play probably about 30 holes maybe a little bit more and uh to get to his fourth victory of his career and he did it in in h in fashion right Josh you know just

Kept on in that final 18th playoff hole and eventually during the Super Bowl almost during Usher’s halftime show he gets the uh win you told me that if they just kept playing it he would have just kept birding that hole over and over and over again I don’t think he and the

Thing is Josh that’s not an easy hole that’s a very intimidating t-shot over the water um over the water and the bunkers on the left side rough on penal rough on the right side and Josh with the emergence of how many fans there are at that golf course we’ll talk about

This in a little bit more there’s just it’s crazy that how impending that golf shot is I urge you to go back to number 18 at TBC or Scottsdale excuse me and look at that t-shot I don’t know there’s nowhere to bail out Josh it’s hit it

Down the middle or it’s I guess you could bail down the right a little bit that’s what Nick Taylor did a little bit he bails down the writing is in that rough you got a nice little bounce too actually but it’s still a very difficult hole it’s not like it’s a little it’s

Not like it’s a the the 16th hole it’s 150 Yard part three it’s it’s a it’s a sizable part four where you have to hit a seven iron in close and and make a pot and Nick Taylor did that yeah and you know to birdie 16 and 18 in regulation

To force the playoff like he did uh just very Charlie Hoffman just ran away with it but Nick Taylor said Never say die yeah uh so for the 35-year-old uh he’s now won four times on tour uh he’s got the 2020 AT&T Pebble Beach the RBC Canadian last year which

Was a gigantic golf story in and of itself uh and now the the WM Phoenix Open uh an equally uh important event on the PGA tour schedule Nick Taylor this this guy is just tough as tough as they come right yeah I mean he’s I know I

Kind of just said it before but I’ll say it again he’s Nails I mean then the RBC knocks in that long eego put on in a playoff and then at DBC Scottsdale he makes a couple big putts in a playoff so this guy just lives for the big moment

Um you know the Canadian represents represents Canada well I know the President’s Cup was fired up cuz he’s been playing well and he’ll C most certainly be on that team come the end of the year so uh pretty cool stuff from Nick Taylor he definitely has a clutch

Clutch genan I would say yeah um and you know looking back at the reason why I picked him and and like you said you know I I threw some cash on him not much but I threw a little bit of cash on him Wednesday uh saw him on on DraftKings he

Was plus 15,000 to win outright um but when you go back through the last few years you know he’s second since 2018 he is second only to Scotty Sheffer in Strokes gained at TPC Scottdale think about that like he hasn’t played in all of those years but in terms of the the

Raw number Strokes gained against the field he is second to only Scotty sheffler like and he was not among the top 20 expected to to compete to win in that thing and and it just looked uh especially after last year he had a good performance last year there it it looked

Like a place where he could could do damage and look at what he did he did damage yeah let’s talk about Scotty because he was right there in the mix until he wasn’t towards the end right but on Sunday morning when I mentioned you know they had to play so much golf

Scotty I believe it was his first 16 holes of the day of the the calendar day right on Sunday he made 11 birdies and it just looked like it looked like Scotty Sheffer he knocks it 330 down the middle and then he hits eight iron to 15

Feet or closer and knocks in the pot and he had the Potter roll into so it looked like it was Scotty’s day to lose he had to share sh the lead at one point and it looked like he was just kind of in cruise control that kind of that Scotty

Shuffler that you look at where he has no idea where he is he’s just playing golf he’s got that tunnel the blinders on Tunnel Vision on and he’s the only one out there and it was pretty fun to watch and you said wow this guy is just

So so freaking good he kind of when he has that putter going it can kind of creep into the tiger the tiger days right a little bit um I maybe maybe a little bit too quick to say on that but especially with that last part I said

Though has the putter going but it kind of got cold for him a little bit he had a bad threep on the par five coming in um where he made par there he had about 20 fet for eagle or 25 fet for Eagle I think it was and ended up making make

Him par and that kind of sealed his fate right but um yeah it it’s really interesting from the number one player in the world if he plays like that it feels like nobody can ever beat him by anybody right I mean it would take a tiger Prime tiger to have any uh any

Competition with with Scotty sheffler Fe sty didn’t like that yeah and you know I think the really interesting takeaway for me on that is just If This Were a normal week where they weren’t playing 30 holes on Sunday I think there was a reasonable chance that

He won I mean he came out Sunday firing right um if he was just playing 18 holes on Sunday under normal circumstances odds are he probably would have won that golf tournament um but you know how sustaining that for as long as he had to you know between 25 and 30 holes needing

To sustain that that surge that he that he that he put on uh Sunday morning it’s tough it’s tough that’s tough to maintain and it wasn’t the first day that they had to play like 20 plus holes so it was just a I mean that that whole

Event you know obviously there’s a lot going to be a lot of talk about uh the the chaos that was Saturday uh and we’ll get into that in a minute here but you know if not for that I think the weather and the volume of golf these guys had to

Play on a absolutely wacky schedule really was or would have been the big biggest story to to come out of the week under normal circumstances yeah Josh it makes Nick Taylor’s win that much more impressive in my mind cuz it’s not like this Nick or Nick Taylor is a young guy you know

35 years old and they and they talked about it at nause him on the broadcast about how tiring your legs can get but by playing that much golf so it just goes to show how much of an athlete Nick Taylor is and how he continued to kind

Of barrel down and make pots and make big shots and big moments Charlie Hoffman what do you make of of his ability to hang around and contend on Sunday had he won I think it would have been his first win in about eight years I believe they said on the broadcast

Something like that yeah it it was it’s pretty crazy you know it’s it’s a name you see on leaderboards every once in a while especially he doesn’t he gets the name he gets the kind of tabloid of you know play well plays well earlier and then kind of sputters out so that’s kind

Of what you were thinking what was going to happen to him on Sunday when he was going super low and that the conclusion of that Saturday round into that fourth round but then he just kept the the foot on the gas pedal and and he I don’t think he definitely didn’t play he

Played well enough almost to win in my op very much well enough to win in my opinion Nick Taylor just played better at the time and uh so pretty pretty big big props It to Charlie Hoffman and the waist management guy with the green glove uh played well at his tournament I

Would say yeah uh so let’s let’s get into the the real story from this past weekend uh chaos at TPC Scottdale uh you had fans getting arrested you had people saying there’s too much booze uh pandemonium on Saturday uh so let’s get into some of these details Billy horel

Jordan spe and Zack Johnson all had various fan interactions that wound up going viral um you had the F-bomb by uh Jordan Speed who just looked absolutely befuddled in that moment when when the the camera pans to him he’s pointing at the crowd uh and he just is is lost

Billy horel going to bat for for for another fan interaction Zack Johnson getting into a basically a argument with random spectators at the event um lots of rain boatload of alcohol it was muddy um you know we saw a little bit of the the mud and how that can really turn

Some of these golf courses uh into a mess for fans last year at the PGA um we had that rainy Saturday uh so Sunday I remember it being very muddy and because of the hills and stuff at all of these golf courses even though you don’t see

It on TV they become really hard to Traverse especially after you’ve had a few uh a few beverages we had criticism of the 16th whole coverage um kid booing with fans uh after a lot of quote unquote average golf shots on Saturday um fast forward out of all of that uh

There were a lot of questions about whether this event has become too much or whether it hasn’t that’s what I wanted debate but I do want to just add a quick little note here uh golf monthly uh talk to organiz ERS and apparently uh they say they’re not going to let this

Happen again they have a year to fix this they say they’re going to fix it they’re saying they’re going to be quote complete operational changes in how they manage Friday and Saturday uh the entire week as well what do you think what what do you

What do you make of this past weekend is it too much is it not that big a deal does everybody need to like just chill for a minute like what what where where do you sit on this yeah to me it just it’s only it’s okay in my mind because

It happens once a year it’s not like this is bleeding over into into any other tournament or anything like that this gets eyes on the golf world right we see a ton of viral Clips you mentioned the rain Josh played a huge part in it with h guys you know sliding

In the mud or or tackling each other in the mud right but once you combine that with with the in copious amounts of booze they sold it it just it’s just just kind of going to happen but Josh I think at the end of the day there should

Be a line that everyone between the players and the fans know where that line is and that to me is you can Heckle guys all you want I think I think if you’re a professional golfer if you’re a professional athlete in that matter you

Should be able to kind of not I know I know I used the word tunnel vision earlier in the podcast Josh but you should be able to kind of tune out um people talking about your golf game right but then there’s then there’s the people that yell during your golf swing

And that’s a little bit of a tough thing for me because you have a guy that’s you know and in the Billy horel case it was a I believe it was a Monday Q Monday Q guy he was defending where this guy is just trying to make a living playing

Golf and you know he gets a yell on his back swing and that can really affect these guys you know the the the thing that don’t really matter to them are you know those constant noises right of a c crowd murmuring if they’re not all quiet or anything but it’s those sharp loud

Yells in the back swings that can really affect these guys and you know I know kind of sounds soft to me to say that but I think it really does matter especially when these guys are playing for you know upwards of $9 million it’s very important but at the end of the day

This isn’t an elevated event these guys are not forced to play in it so they don’t have to play in it a guy like Jordan spe a guy like horal he can not play if he doesn’t want to if he really thinks it’s that bad but um I just think

Once a year we should be able to handle this and it really helps the the the the future and nature of golf as well yeah so I I think I have two parts to my argument I guess um part one is get security fixed like get your your gate

Operations fixed because clearly that was a huge issue um on Saturday um we don’t know yet if it was an issue other days um but Saturday we heard reports that there were upwards of 500,000 people on the grounds that’s a lot of people you know I did some I did some

Digging around and it and it seems like in past years you know 200 to kind of like 225,000 is the the quote unquote Max Capacity so when you’re talking about a I’ll call it a breach when you’re talking about a breach of that that extent um it’s going to be

Impossible for anyone any but entity any organization to manage that you can’t manage that you can’t manage 500,000 people uh in one day I can’t but when it comes to the the heckling and the people drinking and all that stuff honestly I just feel like everybody needs to get

Over it because if and especially the players if we hear the players every week talking about uh we want to grow the game we want to make the game better we want to grow the game if players are interested in anything other than just making money they need to read the room

Here because it’s like my analogy for what we saw this past weekend comparing the WM open to every other stop on tour is basically public golf versus Country Club golf and everybody listening can fully understand what I mean when I say that but like golf is growing at an explosive

Rate Among Us commoners right and yet at the professional level when it comes to broadcast when it comes to to TV ratings when it comes to all the things that ultimately make the PGA Tour and live money they’re not they’re they’re either plateaued or they’re falling off I I

Don’t think there’s been a weekend where we’ve seen quote unquote impressive uh viewership numbers yet in in the last year and even the majors didn’t perform that well last year so look like this is just I kind of feel like professional golf is going to have to Cozy up to the

Idea of losing some of its longtime viewers who are turned off by a more loose laidback professional game and if that pisses some players off in the process so be it but those are the things that are going to have to happen if the tour or any tour wants to cash in

On the growth that we’ve seen in golf overall I just I see where some people are coming from you know you have a Streaker you know Jump Into the Bunker on 16 and kind of swan Di and you know that was kind of that was kind of crazy

That the show you know it kind of made me think about you know Happy Gilmore in the movie and people can go back to their shanties and how am I supposed to putt with this going on Doug right so I know it has a little bit of comparisons

To that I know that’s a fictional World we’re talking about but yeah I I think but if you do let some of it happen Josh you need to make sure you don’t let too much happen right because then we can get across that line that we were talking about a little bit

Too yeah and I think all of that is solved by just bolstering security yeah know it’s a good idea I mean people don’t you know there was a lot of folks when people think security they’re probably thinking like well controlling the gates but you need to have like

Security around the entire around the entire grounds right like you need to be able to stop idiots from running out onto the golf course and Swan diving into a bunker or into the water um and you also need to have enough security to prevent fights we saw like fights among

Patrons who were there um you know it’s like like you fix that problem and all of a sudden you don’t have all of the other problems that came from this past weekend and and that’s I think that’s easier said than done I mean we had a

Streaker at the Super Bowl and they have you would think they have unlimited resources in in to get people off the off of the the playing field yeah no I mean and look like some of that stuff is going to happen no matter what when you

Have the amount I mean what else could they do reduce how much alcohol people can drink on course I mean okay they did cut it off at one point on Saturday pretty you know in the afternoon at some point yeah I mean they had to it seems

That happened right around the time when they were the basically the floodgates had opened and they didn’t really have control over who was on the grounds um but just an interesting thing I hope when all this is said and done uh the event doesn’t lose its character because

I do think this is one of if not the best stop on uh the tour and I know a lot of traditionalists in the the you know the traditional golf viewer um doesn’t love it I know a lot of the players don’t love it but when we’re talking about growing the

Game you got to get comfortable with the uncomfortable unfortunately um because it’s a different world now this isn’t 1980 um people don’t want to watch a buttoned up uh broadcast just the same as they don’t want to go to a a an event that isn’t this one this one people turn

Out for so hey we’ll see what uh we’ll see what they actually do it’s easy to say they’re going to change things quite another to actually change things so we’ll see we’ll see what they come up with um Dustin Johnson gets a w holds Off Taylor G uh Peter Uline and John Rah

Among others Bryson D Shambo uh to win at Las Vegas country club on the live golf side of things uh smash GC got the team win uh Rah apparently not loving loud music at Live Events that’s an interesting note that I saw pop up um he’s also struggled his first two events

Here on on the tour there was also some criticism about uh the CW’s TV product random breaks interfering with major moments uh during the live broadcast I’m sure viewership of um this live event were as bad as it could possibly be because you had uh the Phoenix Open and

You had Super Bowl Sunday um to things that were just hurting it all weekend they wrapped on Saturday obviously but still it’s just not a not a good golf watching weekend I think for a lot of people yeah I I definitely for sure it’s it’s just amazing with Dustin Johnson

Sorry to to go back on that but he’s just it’s amazing how consistent as he is it seems like he’s won every single calendar year since he’s really come on you know you know over 15 years right about how Dustin Johnson no matter where he’s playing golf he just gets it done

It’s kind of crazy that he only has two maj I think we’re going to get into that talk in a little bit here but let’s go back to ROM for a second it’s just funny with ROM talking about the music and we heard him talk last week about how he

Likes he’s saying he likes the music right and thinks it’s he thinks it takes off a little bit more nerves but then you have his caddy and him about five holes left on their round on Saturday talking about you know telling fans to quiet please quiet please as there is

Music just blasting in the in the background it’s just a very funny visual to me um I I I think he’s going to have to grow to like it or he’s going to have to to figure out what the answer is there but Josh at the end of the day I

Think we talked about it last week we need that Liv needs to figure out a way where they can kind of have music and they can’t I think it’s still a little bit of a process they’re trying to kind of feel out what’s best for them they’ve

Been turning it off later in rounds lately I’ve noticed and maybe turning it down at some certain points some big pivotal putts but just at the end of the day looking at John ROM have a six-footer on a on a putt and you just hear blasting in the background Pit Bull

Or Bad Bunny or something like that just blasting in the background it’s just a very funny visual to to me it’s yeah it’s it’s strange um you know as far as the ROM not maybe loving the loud music even though we’ve had kind of like mixed mixed reports on that the last couple

Weeks um hey you chose it man like this is what what you chose to do so I can’t really you know it’s an it is what it is um maybe live changes this down the road um Rah probably has enough sway to to change this you know the the criticism

Of CW’s uh TV presentation is kind of funny to me because it’s like unlike working with a you know a CBS proper or NBC or or Fox who really has their um their production stuff down pat live is working with the CW who’s just kind of

Like figuring this out as they go oh yeah you know it’s not like they they’re accustomed to doing this so like it’s almost like I’m more apt to give them a pass and be like yeah it’s going to take them like a season or two to figure this

Stuff out I would assume that by the end of the year CW’s TV product is a lot better um but let’s talk about DJ you mentioned that guy is so consistent every year he’s there competing um winning um he didn’t have a great showing in Majors last year does he have

A better chance in competing in the majors this time around yeah my heart wants to say yes right with just how well he’s you know played and stayed around been been consistent for the last however many years but joshh does he does he quote unquote care enough you know we’ve seen

DJ you know ever since even know his whole career really and just it’s been more exemplified since he’s went to live he really was one of the few golfers to originally say yeah I did this for the money I did this for the money it did

This to play less and that’s what we were kind of begging guys to say and DJ came out and said it so I think that’s really cool from DJ that that I’ve really had a lot of I’ve really grown you know I’ve lost some respect for some

Guys have gone to live but I’ve actually grown respect for a guy like DJ to just flat out admit I did this for the money I did this for my family I did this to play less so I I’d love to say that he does play well Josh but I just go back

To does he care about winning at Augusta again does he care about you know coming down the stretch at a Usos open playing and playing well and getting into contention um I don’t know what do you think about that I know I my gut says yes um and it’s interesting you bring up

The the does he care question cuz I I think it’s a legitimate one the the answer I think though to that is is he very well may be the most naturally gifted golfer from the last 25 years yes for sure for sure I mean he admitted in

His in in the post on this one uh in this after this win he said he hardly played in the off season last week’s he called last week’s Strong finish a surprise then he comes out and he wins this weekend like basically didn’t touch a golf club through the off season

Comes back out he said he practiced quite a bit in between the two events but I who knows what that means for for DJ because you know maybe that means he he played nine holes three days like maybe that’s that’s a lot of practice to

Him um play the league but you know he said he he focused a lot on his family during the offse season he spent a lot of time with his kids obviously his wife like you know he is just so naturally gifted that like no matter how poorly

He’s played in recent memory at Majors I feel like as long as he’s still winning Live Events you have to like consider him to be like a top 10 favorite at the majors because he can just show up and and win it’s like oh yeah you know he doesn’t need you know

We see so many guys on tour who need warm-up events who like they they build their schedule around trying to Peak at the time of of Majors he can just show up and and peek out of the blue that’s you know that’s interes killer sometimes yeah it’s crazy to me

That he only has won two majors Josh it’s so wild feels like a guy that could have won more he had some some really tough moments especially that three putt at Whistling straights uh about five years ago in the US Open or more than that that was kind of tough um so he’s

Had some moments where he could win more Josh I just think it’s I just think it’s so tough I know we talk about this all the time and and recency bias is a thing right where we talk about guys contending in Majors I don’t know I don’t necessarily see just Dustin

Johnson contending in Majors but I could very much be wrong here in the year 2024 yeah I it would be interesting because he’s also kind of at that age where um you don’t he’s pass his prime you know he’s he’s at a point now where he’s on the downswing in his career we

Assume um and and to your point for DUS Johnson is there a down swing that well and to your point that does he care element you know if he comes out and he is contending for the lead on Thursday at the Masters and that leads into a good round on

Friday that keeps him in the mix I think that’s a different that would set up a different weekend for him than if he goes out and barely makes the cut or doesn’t play that well on Thursday and all of a sudden the rest of the weekend is kind of looking like this

Insurmountable thing I think the does he care question comes up and is a lot more relevant then right for sure he’s wanted a gusta before he doesn’t need the money he’s playing he’s playing the majors because wants to right so I don’t I wouldn’t expect I wouldn’t put it past him to

Play well at Augusta I think he’s got the best chance there just because he’s won there and he’s comfortable there right but um I don’t think I would bet on him you know contending in in this coming up Majors yeah um I know we don’t

Have it on the script but we need to talk about it before we get into the Genesis uh previewing the Genesis this weekend uh Sunday red Sunday red uh Tiger’s new apparel brand uh was unveiled uh I guess this morning now we’re recording on Tuesday um thoughts

On what you’ve seen so far we’ve seen some Snippets uh on social media I’ve seen a couple promotional videos um not a lot to go off of but what are your initial thoughts on on this new brand that tiger and Taylor maer launching together yeah anything Tiger Woods does

Is cool I think he could put any sort of logo on any sort of shirt and it would sell millions and I’d probably wear it too so uh it’s just Tiger Woods being around something is that cool I’m not a huge apparel guy um so that’s not something huge for me

But just the whole Sunday red thing with tiger is is just a really cool phenomenon the fact that he’s wearing Sunday red for his entire almost his entire career and he’s been a stone cold killer throughout it is pretty cool and it was a lot of fun to watch some of the

Discourse this morning but Josh I don’t really love the logo I think just the regular tww logo is is really cool but I get why they had to go with this one but um yeah we’ll see what what happens with it um I’m interested to see I’m actually

More interested Josh to see what tiger wears during his his four rounds this week at the Genesis stand this morning yeah you would you would assume that uh the folks that Taylor Made and those those uh those folks who created this new brand put a lot of thought into the

Launch and what he’s going to be wearing this weekend to Showcase it and show it off um you know like the you and I were talking this morning man the the apparel game in Golf is such a crowded market and I think it’s so hard to stand out um

I I think the interesting thing that I want to watch with this moving forward is going to be what I mentioned a few weeks ago on the pod which is uh what golfers ultimately get signed to this brand young players uh older players what like who are because that’s really

What this is about like this is this is about creating something that can exist separate and away from tiger in in Tiger’s absence tiger doesn’t like the tww logo is synonymous with tiger this will be something that can can live pest uh tiger I think it’s weird the

Sunday red three words that’s a little weird to me that’s going to take some getting used to I think do you think he passes it down to Charlie when he gets you know when that that passing of the torch finally happens I I would assume so I mean if it

Happens I should say should should Charlie Go Pro eventually I think that would be the obvious you know I think that would be the obvious thing I I’m more curious to see um especially with how the rules of changed in the college game um what does yeah how does Sunday

Red make a splash at the college level because I think that’s where if you’re an apparel brand that’s where you want to grow you want to grow among that youngest demographic you want to sign some college players um not just the ones that are about to turn pro but but

Some uh brand ambassadors so to speak at the at the lower level that you can really start to to grow this thing beyond the traditional fans who are just going to flock to this thing cuz it’s tiger right uh elevated golf is back we got the Genesis coming up this weekend um

Obviously last weekend was such a popular event that it’s going to feel like a continuation in some ways but we’ve got a a packed field we got The Usual Suspects uh leading the way in terms of who’s expected to play well Scotty Sheffer Rory Mary uh havin shaay

Klay hom marawa a bear uh Thomas and burns they are the uh top 10 on Draft Kings as of uh this morning anyway those odds might shift a little bit but I don’t think you’re going to see any of those names uh shift out especially after this past weekend most of those

Guys who played this past weekend played pretty well with the exception of maybe um sh back I know he withdrew last week with that a little injury seems it seems like he’s back he’s still listed he hasn’t withdrawn yet maybe it would be a closer to last minute um decision Vick

An options to to look at that too I know he didn’t play play last week he with Drew as well yeah um just a quick note I guess for anybody curious Nick Taylor his odds have improved from last week’s event uh he’s only plus 11,000 to win so

Anybody who who’s feeling frisky enough to throw little change on that um hey uh his odds are better than Tigers tigers’s odds plus 13,000 uh he’s pretty much sitting equal to the likes of Lucas Glover and Charlie Hoffman which probably feels like bit of a low moment for for the big cat

Because when I think of those other two guys I do not think of Tiger Woods um who we picking who who do you got I think I would be hardpressed to not pick a guy like Justin Thomas he has played some really good golf over the

Past uh I don’t know what you want to call a couple months you know we played well in the Ridder Cup played well in those PJ tour fall seasons and then you look at his stats so far in the 2024 season there’s he’s played three events

Two of the three he’s in the top 10 and the one he’s not in the top 10 Josh he’s T12 at the Phoenix Open so it’s just amazing how Justin Thomas has really resurrected this that really poor year he had last year and has played really well especially on the PGA tour this

Season and it’s just a guy that his name’s been around so he’s going to win soon and it’s going to be interesting to see so I’ll be backing him he comes in around 16 to1 I think so uh let’s see the Alabama kid get a win over at Riv

Here in California yeah and such a such a tough Golf Course um a golf course that holds absolutely no prisoners so look uh you know I think it would be very easy to pick one of these guys that are in the top 10 um Scotty sheffler

Like you alluded to earlier in the show man he could just go out and and put on a clinic and wind up you know 18 under and win this thing by six Strokes who knows um I don’t think anyone would be surprised yeah no absolutely not I am

Curious to see how Rory plays this weekend um he’s he it’s sort of I think of this as kind of like the beginning of the season for a lot of these top tier guys who I think will be competing for the FedEx Cup at the end of the at the

End of the playoffs so I I’m really interested to see how Rory comes out this weekend but my pick’s Denny McCarthy um looking back I’m using the same philosophy I used last weekend looked at that old Strokes gain stat uh for this event in the past few years and

He hangs around there he’s in the top 15 um and I think at at plus 8,000 that’s a uh a value uh a value pick so if you’re looking for somebody who’s outside of that you know that normal top 10 window to win we’ve had a lot of those winners

This year by the way a lot of guys that have come from a long this year yeah a lot of long shots this year so um if that trend is to continue maybe it’s Denny McCarthy oh I love that pick Josh a big Denny McCarthy fan over here

Really really good Putter and you’ve look take a look at those Strokes gate numbers and they’ve been they’ve been good here ri for him so yeah I I like that pick uh I watched Danny get that putter hot and he doesn’t miss he fills it up yeah

Um here’s a question that I didn’t put on the thing but I I do want to ask when you’re looking at those those guys that are in the the top 10 those top 10 favorites who out of that crop is would a win this weekend be most significant for

Um most significant for I I think Klay I think you’re still looking for those those big wins out of Klay I mean he’s played well in a lot of big events but he doesn’t have a lot of huge wins maybe that you can you can AR you definitely

Can argue that the the uh the the season long wins that he has are are very important but he’s still looking to stack up those wins he comes in the top 10 a lot and plays really good golf but um yeah especially with the way Klay is

Kind of taking the Reigns on the PGA tour and been very influential in that I think that plays a a factor in it we saw a guy like Rory M last year who was doing a lot of poster boying for the tour and he didn’t play his best golf

Until he just kind of stepped back from that and and started to play better on the on the course too so I’m kind of looking at Patrick Canley to see how he plays this week how about you I think it would be I would go with uh AAR just

Because of his age and and how quickly he’s come up and for him to be a favorite and elevated event um I mean if he if he won this weekend I think that would really put the tour on notice man all of a sudden I think the conversation

Around him would would change completely it it felt like a long shot late last year when we were talking about being you know a favorite to win a major but now we’re we’re approaching Master season and he very well could be a favorite heading into that event yeah we’re we’re getting close to

Match Master season is Right Josh we got super bowl out of the way we’ll just do March Madness here coming up and then we’ll we’ll roll right into the Masters but yeah studv a bear I think he’s gonna I think that’s a really good idea too to

To watch him and I’d be very very surprised if he isn’t on that Leaderboard on Sunday yeah absolutely hey uh that is going to do it for this edition of the show you can catch more over at our substack it’s outof bounds golf. substack docomo ify or apple podcast and follow
