Matt Adams recaps the Genesis Invitational and comments on the 2nd round withdrawal by Tiger Woods due to influenza as well as Jordan Spieth’s disqualification from the tournament for signing an incorrect scorecard.

Tiger came out was okay in round one we saw some swings that looked pretty good and then in the second round he had to withdraw because he was not feeling well this is what tiger sent out to the world he said I would like to confirm that I

Had to withdraw from the genice Invitational due to illness which we now know is influenza I am resting and feeling better good luck to the players this weekend I’m disappointed not to be there and want to thank Genesis USA and all the fans for their support we were

Told that tiger was treated with an IV on site here’s what tiger has done in his last 10 starts the WD a tie for 45th before that a year ago withdrawn from the Masters he was 18 out of 20 at the Hero World Challenge he was 47th at the

Masters in 22 not bad a withdrawal from the PGA Championship in two he was cut at the open in two but he tried cut at the US Open in 20 but he tried tied for 72nd at the Zozo championship in 20 and tied for 38th at the Masters in 2020 not

A lot there to go on in terms of samples of how Tiger Woods is doing I guess it it draws a broader question and maybe tomorrow Dom this we might weave this into a question of the day what is it reasonable to expect from Tiger Woods

Now it it’s a little bit comical for me with the press conferences because we get swept up in it every time and I and I realize it’s because of as as I like to say the underpinning of hope that is the game of Golf Tiger comes into his

Press conference and he sits there and someone will go um umh tiger what what do you think’s a reasonable expectation for this week and Tiger goes I’m here to win that’s why I come out here that’s why I teed up I’m out here to win and

Everyone goes um okay and then they say well how you what you been doing in preparation I’ve been working really hard I’ve been you know I’m doing all it’s it’s it’s the tiger stuff then Tiger goes out and what whatever he does he he he he shanked it on 18 and said

Well I was I was suffering back spasms the last three holes I was doing the best I could I couldn’t really put the club where I wanted to on it so hit the it hit hosle and and shanked and everyone goes but but you said you were

Playing well and he looks at him he goes guys I’ve had all these surgery my back is fused and I think to myself tiger you were the one setting up the expectations for is that you feeling better than you felt in forever and and all the rest

That’s and from that standpoint I am amused by that but why does that happen it happens because we all want to see tiger play well it’s the hope that this will be where lightning is in the bottle once again but is that a reasonable expectation for Tiger Woods I know that

He would bristle at the thought that he’s a ceremonial golfer but getting a chance to see one of the goats of the game if not the hit a golf ball in any scenario I mean from my perspective he’s I think that’s pretty cool to be able to

To get that opportunity and I respect the fact that for Tiger Woods he wants it to be about so so much more now with Jordan spe it also came on that same Friday it was quite a Friday of news for the Genesis Invitational because he

Signed for a 72 he shot a 73 he was disqualified for signing the wrong scorecard Jordan P sent out this tweet today I signed an incorrect scorecard and stepped out of the scoring area after thinking I went through all the procedures and make sure it was correct

Rules of rules and I take full responsibility I love this tournament in golf course as much as any on the PGA tour so it hurts to not have a run at the weekend really appreciate the sport in La at the Genesis Invitational so for Jordan SMI when that happened there was

A tremendous amount of support that was absolutely outpouring from all Corners including on social media and the fact that people were upset about what took place is a reasonable reaction when they don’t understand what took place I look I’m all for the idea of I’ll keep your

Score you keep my score and at the end of the round we have to look through to make sure that we agree but with the technology that exists today before a player signs exit exiting the scoring area the way that Jordan uh referred to it there’s no reason why we can’t use

Technology to also be the third check to make sure that what you think is correct and what I think is correct is correct by all measures and if we did that then you wouldn’t have lost George spe or any other player that would have signed an incorrect scorecard the severity of

Signing an incorrect scor card to be actually disqualified for tournament thrown out of the event to me it has to come down to intent I think anytime rules are applied in any sport it has to come down to intent what is the intent of the individual in signing for a wrong

Scorecard signing for a score that was lower than what they actually shot if it’s so severe that you’re disqualified that tells me that the Assumption of intent is that you were trying to cheat that you were trying to post a lower score than what you really had in this

Case it seems quite clear that was not the intent what actually took place was a human mistake and human mistakes can be helped by using technology to say wait a minute guys you got this wrong let’s make sure that we get this correct as we move forward

  1. I’ve been disqualified for being in the boundary of the course. Hitting range balls back into the Range….Well The USGA and the R&A are the real Governing Body of the game. So the rules apply to allowing the players understand that this is not only a sport it’s a Game ❤❤❤

  2. First: spieth was not intending to cheat. BUT Intention is almost impossible to determine and that would play right into the hands of cheaters, which is a GROWING problem in golf.
There are technology precautions for pga tour players which most competitive golfers do not benefit from. Still Jordan found a way to blow it.
    It doesn’t happen very often.
But it’s EXTREMELY important players never sign something with a lowered score on a hole. It if was a higher score, he would not be DQ.
Spieth has done this process thousands of times. There’s no excuse for his mistake.
This is just like hole 10 or 4. Whenever things don’t go these pros way people just want to change everything.
Like hole 4 and 10 at riv, this rule is just fine the way it is. We can’t let weak cry babies who want trophies for everyone dictate everything.

Tiger is fine. They run this poor reclusive man ragged this week. It’s no surprise this big accident was on and around this week. He mentioned he had like 3 lunches to go to a few days ago, when he should be only preparing and resting.
If Genesis loves tiger they will tell him to not do so many hosting duties. He probably sucked up so many germs.
IMO his back and leg and everything looks solid.
Back spasms are to be expected. I get them here and there.
Tiger has been playing quite a bit of golf. He is ok. But we know these tournaments come with more pressure and more responsibilities.
    I’m excited for his future.
Hopefully he doesn’t create any further set backs for himself so he can continue to improve and get back to his next W, which is going to come. Imo.

  3. The only needle tiger moves is thes one full of hgh hes sticking in his ass every night to be able to get out of bed the next day. Move on from tiger. Its over.

  4. You can't tell me that players are that busy between holes they haven't got time to check their score and fill out the card correctly . Most of the time they lounge around tees waiting for the group Infront. Golf has the most integrity of any game with players even calling penalties on themselves. If Pat Reed does this in the Masters the media response will be totally different , life ban cheater etc etc.

  5. Example of a player that put integrity and adherance to the rules above any personal gain. That man was Greg Norman in 1990.
BRISBANE, Australia — Greg Norman disqualified himself from one of Australia’s richest golf tournaments today, saying he accidentally had breached a rule during Thursday’s first round of the $625,000 Daikyo Palm Meadows Cup.

Norman shot a course-record 63 Friday to take a one-shot lead after two rounds, but said Saturday he could not continue.

He stunned tournament organizers when he arrived at the course, saying he felt he had breached Royal and Ancient rules by taking illegal relief on the 10th hole on Thursday, when he shot an opening-round 66. After explaining the circumstances, he was told he did indeed break a rule.

“I had no intention of deliberately cheating,” Norman said. “I couldn’t go out and have my peers say I cheated.”
Norman also said he believed the course-record 63 he shot Friday should be discounted because it happened after the incident.

  6. Called it early Thursday, that Tiger would find a way to WD if the game was not there! He is no longer relevant on the course. Please stay home.
