Last ever really since he committed and started getting on the field in the new semester started CJ Daniels is a guy that constantly comes up in conversations that I have with coaches around LSU now there are a lot of question marks for LSU and one of them that a lot of you

Have is who does LSU have that true wide receiver one in the building from the way that I at least from what I’ve heard so far this off seon is that CJ Daniels the wide receiver from Liberty has been that guy he’s turned a lot of heads he has shown

That they think and they believe by the way that he can take that next step and be that number one guy for Garrett NM now LSU has not necessarily had a lot of wide receiver transfers that have come in here and had a lot of success because

That is a position group that LSU historically recruits at a high level you got a lot of talent in that room a lot of young talent in that room that you hope also will take that next step forward but I do think CJ Daniels who was a top 10 player in this year’s

Transfer portal class is someone that we will look forward to this spring like hey man you’re going you’re leaving Liberty you’re coming into the SEC and against a DB room that also has a lot of question marks you have a quarterback who is a gunslinger who’s

Going to want get the ball out of his hands very quickly you have a lot of opportunities that maybe you did not have at Liberty which by the way you were still a thousand yard receiver CAU more or or caught uh 10 touchdown passes this past

Year I do think that CJ Daniels right now is a guy that LSU and the coaching staff believes not only do they believe will be wide receiver one but they believe that has the talent and that’s why they recruited him and brought him in even though you had a really talented

Room is that they believe that he can be that guy now just because he’s at LSU doesn’t mean that we can’t he there aren’t some questions that need to be answered you’re coming from a program that did not play in the SEC and there’s a big difference in football playing at

Liberty coming into LSU and being a part of the SEC I think he’s already started to answer some of those questions from what the coaches have seen already in this off season can he hit the field the practice field and start showing some of those things will be the

Ultimate question and obviously when we get into early September the ultimate questions start being answered for guys like CJ Daniels but he is someone that because I guess maybe he came from Liberty maybe because there were so many coaching changes and turnover for LSU this year

On defense he is a guy that we have not talked about enough even though we have spent a scpl load of con or time and conversation about him guys I I turn on the film for a guy like CJ Daniels and say to myself I do I see the potential I

See the massive upside that maybe you have found something here for a quarterback who is now coming into his own and look even looking at a guy like Garrett nus who is already I I think everybody knows who he is everybody knows what gear nus Meer is and the

Abilities and the strengths and weaknesses that he has but even talking to people at football lops right now even seeing some of the pictures that are coming out of Garrett nus me from this offseason because he’s putting on really good weight you could he’s being a leader

He’s being very vocal he’s leading by example so when to pull back the layers and peel back the onion and when you ask about this team going into 2024 and I tell you there aren’t a lot of worries that I have for this offense now they got questions but not I’m not worried

About them because I look at a guy like CJ Daniels and foreshadow some of the things that I think that he’s going to be able to do here guys look at what Garrett nus looked like when he came in as a freshman too and what he looks like right now how quickly can

That connection start start to build because I look you got zavon Thomas Chris Hilton Kyon Lacy how does that all work itself out we start to find that out this spring but the one person that I will constantly keep my eye out for this entire off season even though you have a

Is a big jump from high school to obviously being in the SEC and against this offense and that wide receiver core but every conversation that I’ve had with people who don’t know that we’re having the conversations that we’re having meaning I have one conversation with this coach hey who are some guys that

Stand out I don’t tell them what I’m I’m hearing from other coaches but I talked to another and they both said the same thing about PJ Woodland a guy that a lot of people at the end of the cycle the end of the recruiting cycle yeah he he

Was a late edition you flipped him not a lot of people talked about him but is the Mississippi Mississippi Player of the Year Gatorade player of the year that has turned a lot of heads uh around LSU football another one and the biggest thing I think is

Being overlooked so CJ Daniels is a guy that’s completely being overlooked along with PJ Woodland but I think another guy that a lot of people in a position group that a lot of people have not paid a lot of focus to is along the offensive line Brad Davis

Has recruited at a a very high level there and I think well actually I don’t even think listen to me closely the position group that I’ve had the most conversation about over the last two weeks surrounding LSU football in this off season there have been individual players like Woodland and

Daniels and there have been many others but as a group none bigger than the offensive line guys like Tyrie Adams winning the freak of the week coming into his own saying hey man look I’m gonna put my head down and go to work the depth that LSU has along their offensive line

Guys I gotta tell you it’s starting to get to a place where I ask myself hey man how I this is what I this is what I think because of the talent and development that’s going on going on along the offensive line and that being the line of scrimmage where a lot of

Games are won and lost I think excuse me this damn flu the sustainability from what LSU’s offense has been under Brian Kelly in 22 going into 23 where they were the number one offense in the country in 23 started off a little bit slow in 22 in the first

Year Brian Kelly but then started taking off as this team started getting more reps the biggest position group that everybody wants to talk about with me that are is at football Ops is the o line and how deep and talented and good they are when you have a position group and

Especially a position group that is on the line of scrimmage that has shown and has turned heads and how dominant they have been guys that’s how you have to sustain success and Dynasty run pushes what if we look up in 40 years and Brian Kelly has made the playoffs all four years and

Is on the field and and that’s the thing you know they’re coming into this tabula rosset Clean Slate you know they’re they’re familiar with obviously some of these players because some of them recruited some of these players but you know these are three fresh set of eyeballs that

They’re going to be okay I I I wouldn’t put them in a top five defense in the SEC next year um because you got to have a two deep I don’t know if I feel comfortable with their to deep right now but I think Blake Baker is going to make

Them confident and I think he’s going to make them like at least decent okay last year unlike the 2020 defense that everyone points to as the worst in LSU history at least that defense did some things well the only thing this defense did well last year was not give up absolutely

Astronomical plays over the top but they were horrible at everything else and that that that’s what bothered me the most so yes his defense is going to be better uh some of it is by default but I honestly think this defense is g to be at least

Decent all right that’s that’s fair uh because just from a simple play calling standpoint you’re gonna be Lighty years better right right so yeah I I agree with that all right a couple more for you and then I I’ll get you out of here um you know what who’s a guy that we

Have not had a conversation about all off season let’s hear it Harold Perkins what is the realistic goal or what do we think that Blake Baker does with him I don’t know but obviously last year is was not the answer the F the first thing here is did

We have some Elite Harold Perkins performances last year yeah we had some against Blake Baker’s old team I mean his m game might be his best game that he’s had yeah that was by far his best game of the season he had some other good performance is and good moments

Obviously Wisconsin but the the the truth was is Harold didn’t take the step forward uh that we expected him to take last year and some of that is role um because you know going into last year they expected him to be an inside offb linebacker and they bailed on it after

The Florida State game and that was going to be the the fulcrum of your defense and then after one week you’re scraping that and you’re trying to figure out what is the best role for everyone then he becomes this hybrid nickel type of player Blake and then

They started getting into a rhythm with that and then that fell apart so the main thing is trying to figure out what is the best role for him what is the best role for him Carter I think I I would put him at the Jack I would and I

Understand that you would be sacrificing some in the Run game but you know he he can make up for that as a pass rusher but Blake he also needs to become a more nuanced pass rusher and that comes with time that comes with Evolution that comes with not just you

Know beating everyone with the ghost move which is his best move it’s an unbelievably great move it’s Von Miller’s best move but you gotta have counters you gotta have other things to go along with you gotta be able to spin back into the inside to to right right

And one issue he’s had is just running past the quarterback when he can’t just completely turn the corner right there’s a lot of things he can work on I still think there are things you can do with him as an allball linebacker kind of like what Alabama did at times with

Dallas Turner last year now they’re it’s not quite apples apples Dallas is it’s just a bigger guy but I I think perk would would be best served in a role like that and if you can figure that out he will get back to being one of the

Best players we’ve ever seen on the defensive side of the football only problem I have with that Carter is he just he’s such a liability in the running game he is and you you look at and look let me let me preface this for just a minute because every time we say

Getting these guys to to to to play well and one thing that really stood out to me studying Blake Baker this past weekend um Mr rafino was he did a good job mixing things up versus whoever he was playing right like so against Tennessee he ran a lot of light Bo he

Suffocated the [ __ ] out of Tennessee boy right and he ran a lot of mint fronts like he just had a three-man front and and and just let those guys eat and then against never really knew you really never really know where Blake’s pressure is coming from right he’s going to show

You a lot of different things and you got to be ready for it yeah and and he he did a really good job of coaching the guys up he did a good job adjusting the final pick six of the game was a good job adjusting in that game to what

Tennessee had been killing them with which were you know just deeper in Breakers and right they switch up their coverage and they were able to get a pick six to seal that one um I I just think Baker’s really good I really do think so that was one of my top guys to

Be the next defensive coordinator at LSU and um you know as you know Blake I was not really a big man House Fan and now you you hated him from the beginning which I didn’t blame you well yeah and and and that’s fine you know I don’t always agree with everything every LSU

Move but I obviously I want the team to win and be successful I really do mean it when I say Blake Baker I think is going to be a fine defensive coordinator at you the only worry that I have is is I I I will concede having perk in a

Vulnerable situation with him being at the Jack from a running perspective you can’t have two of them though and you can’t have a bad interior defensive line so the the problem that I have from a schematical standpoint is this Carter I think you’re so bad in the interior of

Your run defense having another liability setting the edge worries the [ __ ] out of me right because you’re so in the interior you can’t risk really perk being out there because he’s a liability too and then when a team like Old Miss comes in here and starts spanking that ass running the football
