Today I’ll be choosing my new putter out of this huge selection but we’ll also be explaining what you need to look out for when picking a flat stick now these are all the putters that I currently have and I know what you’re thinking maybe

It’s just not enough but I do have a few favorites which I’m going to be taking over to Arizona for an indepth face off now the chances are unless you’re a golf sociopath you’re not going to have this many Putters to choose from but if you

Need a new putter what are the main questions that need answering firstly you shouldn’t base your selection purely on your golf handicap the Pusser usually only moves this far back and this far through but amazingly only the very best golfers in the world find the center of the blade consistently the data backs

This up so if you ever have a choice I’d always recommend going for something which offers a lot of forgiveness the reason for this is simply down to speed control so putting comes down to essentially two things the line which is the direction a put takes to the hole

And the length which can also be thought of as Pace or speed essentially how much power is applied to the stroke it’s the length or speed of a put which is the most important thing again the data backs this up if you have a more forgiving putter less speed will be lost

On offc Center strikes so what type of Putters are there so this is a pure blade design from Wilson the BB2 it’s something which has been around for well the best part of a century if not longer it is Simplicity personified it is just a m bit of metal into this

Classic shape this is the type of putter that you want to be using if you don’t want to see any fuss behind the ball but also if you’re comfortable using a pure tow hang putter so what do we mean by tow hang well this Wilson putter as you

Can see the shaft intersects the club head directly ly onto the heel now because of that and because of the way that this club head is weighted the toe of the club is pointing directly down at the ground so this is a full tow hang putter now this putter is a partial tow

Hang as you can see the shaft intersects the club head a little bit more towards the middle of the club basically in between the heel and the center now this is what causes that slight hang down there towards the ground and finally with this Cobra putty you can see here

How the shaft is much more aligned with the center of the club head which helps cause this face balance design now you might be asking why all this is important and it’s fairly simple the more tow hang a putter has generally the more you’ll going to want to rotate the

Club face through impact the more face balance the putter is it’s more designed to be straight back and straight through even though as we speak about within this video a straight back straight through putter stroke doesn’t actually exist so if you’re somebody who’s a little bit Twitchy over the short puts

This might not be the best club for you but if you want something which is super simple super sleek and just super sexy then it might be the right call next up we have this aner style of putter now it’s called an answer style of putter because ping many years ago released the

Answer model which was a real step forward in putter design and in this type of shape not a lot has changed over the intervening years however this this is one step up from a pure blade adaptions have been made in modern times for example this is the AI one and the

Number one from Odyssey and you can see here on the toe and on the heel there are screw weights this is to try and push the perimeter waiting to the outside of the clubs and therefore increase forgiveness one reason many golfers like this type of design is

Because it is very simple a slight tow hang on the blade which requires a little bit more face rotation coming through impact but it’s not as Extreme as a traditional blade this is the type of putty you see used by players like Jordan Speed one of the very best

Putters in the world uses a Scotty Cameron version of this type of design next up we’re moving into the mallets and this is a half moon design as you can see if this putter continued in its curvature it would form a circle it would form a sphere because it’s cut in

Half it’s a half moon this is a designer putter that I’ve personally used before and I actually really like the look of it just allows for a little bit more of an alignment Aid to go on the back of the Putter and it also feels like there’s a little bit more of a

Substantial mess Behind The Bard generally with these Half Moon types of shape we can also get a little bit more towards a face balance design again this is something which I prefer because I like to have the feeling that the putter is moving a little bit straighter back

And a little bit straighter through remember with a mallet design with any design of putter there will be an arc on the stroke so it will move slightly back on the inside to impact to slightly back on the inside as you look down on the blade now we’re on to the Mallet headed

Designs now this is where we start to get some real beasty chunky Club heads the advantage of these types of Club is that it allows manufacturers to make them more forgiving to push weight to the extremities to increase the moment of inertia increase the resist resistance to twisting and increase

Overall forgiveness it also allows for a little bit more experimental alignment Aids on the top I was using the two ball last year that’s a very classic example of a mallet headed design so if you’re someone who struggles to line up puts this might be the type of design for you

Also if you’re struggling with forgiveness this might give you a few more options but not quite as much forgiveness as the super Mel look at this absolute Branding Iron from lab it is quite literally almost the size of my head as you start to move on to Club

Heads which is this big yes you can have lots of different alignment AIDS but this is all about inspiring confidence and increasing forgiveness when you hit a p a lot of people would consider this type of Club as a last resort something which you turn to when you’ve tried

Everything else and you’re really struggling with your putting I would advise you not to look at it like that I would advise you to think of this club as you would a really forgiving driver so if you struggle off the tea there’s no shame in putting in a very forgiving

Driver if you’re struggling on the greens there is absolutely no shame in putting in a very forgiving putter generally the Forgiveness of a putter can be increased as the head gets larger that’s because manufacturers can push weight to the extremities and increase Moi or moment of inertia that is very

Simply resistance to twisting when the ball is struck the more resistance it has to twisting the more energy will be in part Ed on the ball because the face will deflect less now pusses can come in a lot of different lengths this is more of a standard design so this is 34 in

And most people will be using a putter between 33 and 36 in in length but you can also get Pussers such as counterbalance which have a longer grip an arm lock which attaches to the lead arm and also a broom handle now I’ve used all of these Putters and i’

Probably say the counter balance is one design which isn’t looked at enough finally something to pay very close attention to is the grip which is on your putter so this is a standard pistol grip this is a very common design but the types of grip that you use such as

An arm lock such as the counter balance such as the broom handle thicker grips thinner grips all these will mean that your hands are placed differently on the club now remember your hands are your only point of contact between the club and the face so how that feels and the

Type of grip that that will allow will greatly affect the overall technique and if you venture into the dangerous world of Internet shopping you can see here that the amount of putter grips on offer are absolutely massive so for example look at this two thumb grip this is

Designed so the thumbs go parallel onto the grip almost like you’re cradling the pter like you would a baby bird if you’ve ever held a baby bird now you using this grip will vastly alter your Technique when compared to that original pistol it’s actually quite hard to give

Advice on this it’s very much worth seeing a putting coach or getting a putter fitting to find the exact right grip for you because this really is down to personal preference okay you join me in the spooky looking corner so let’s have a look through at some of these

Putter models which I like some of which I might take over to Arizona with me but also some of the things that you should be looking out for now now first of all if I pull this try hot putter out from Odyssey which is a few years old now

You’ll notice here this white insert on the face now this is an insert which makes the putter feel softer a lot of people use different designs the face insert isn’t a given on any particular type of surface what I would say is if you struggle with your putting and you

Want something to get the ball more to the hole then potentially using a harder head might be better but like I said there’s no guarantee so arm lock Putters now we’ve spoken about different lengths of Putter and you can see here with this design it is meant to be pressed against

That lead forearm if you are someone who really struggles especially with shorter puts this might be a way to go it anchors the club to your body and it makes flicking of the wrists and those nervous Strokes a little bit less likely however there is a sacrifice when using

These types of Club especially on longer puts feel is not so easy when it’s strapped to your left arm especially on slower greens auno Putters I remember you’re in a fairway down using a Muno putter to great effect I might actually try and find that here talking about

Personal preference this is a cent asent a center shafted putter which I really don’t like uh if you can’t tell the reason I don’t like them is cuz I’ve had a few absolutely shocking put in displays using them so as soon as I put one down behind the ball I get very bad

Memories I also don’t like these pusses because they tend to twist around the shaft when struck off center very easily so I wouldn’t recommend it for many players however some people when they align this putter behind the ball because the shaft goes into the center

Of the club head they feel that they can find the middle of the club a little bit easier so yeah if you want to go that way it’s fine it’s up to you we just can’t be friends anymore right I think think I should probably pick my

Favorites and head over to the sun hopefully it’ll be sun and all of a sudden we are here in the United States of America 5,000 m away from where we started recording this video and the reason for that is very simple we have greens which are rolling

Not going to lie be disappointed I missed that and from that mass of Putters that we have five have made it across the pond and I’m very excited to test them out because they all offer something a little bit different now we’re going to be going through those

Differences why I’ve selected them and why I think one of these will be going into the back but I have to say even after all the testing is done there might be a little bit of a twist for how Square it sits behind the ball and the

Alignment alone we have the Adele array F3 for its Simplicity its name and just how beautiful it looks behind the ball we have the tpr reserve from Taylor Made simply because of the memories simply because I put it amazingly well with it in the past we have a mauno mcraft

Putter out of all the new Odyssey ai1 putters I’ve brought along the half moon 6t design and even though it break some rules because it’s technically my old putter I put the white hot og2 ball because well it kind of just works for these final five Putters I’m going to be

Putting them through a battery of tests we’re going to be going from short range to long range and I’m going to be doing a pretty thorough job of this to make sure I’m SEL cting the correct putter but in reality a lot of what I’m doing

Here on the green is all about personal preference as always we’re going to be talking you through the reasons why I’m making those decisions and how they might relate to your game but please bear in mind that all the Selections in this video and all the opinions are very

Much based around what I want within my own putting stroke and what I’m hoping for throughout this year what be hoping for in the demonstration is just a whole put how nice it just to see a ball rolling there feels like I’m not seeing that in so long

So first for The Chopping Block I’m afraid it is the Adele now in initial testing I did get the Sensation that it was a little bit firm but it did set up quite Square so maybe I could overcome a little bit of that trepidation I had

About the overall feel of the club but it really doesn’t feel great to my hands it feels very clicky the sound of it not very pleasant and I just lost confidence with it almost instantly on these short puts because on this type of distance around the pin what I’m looking for here

Is just confidence that’s really what I need to be having on this length of put so the Adele is gone so next up unfortunately on The Chopping Block is the reserve putter it’s a great putter it feels really good I just don’t feel that comfortable with it behind the

Ball so I’ve mentioned a little bit about technique and how technique will affect the choice of club that you have with my putting this year I’m going to be grinding on my technique you know outside of competitions you know you should always practice every aspect of

Your game but actually when I’m on the golf course what I want to be doing is being a lot more reactive to the Target so look at the hole as my eyes come back to the ball my putter is already on the move as I take it back I’m trying to be

A lot more fluid I’m trying to get a lot less tense over the ball and when my eyes come back to the ball with this Reserve putter just doesn’t feel right it doesn’t look right and I can’t quite square that blade up as well as the other clubs so unfortunately the reserve is

Going this is going to be a parting of Sorrow I don’t want to see this part go in many respects the memories which it has given me over the last 6 months have been overwhelmingly positive but it has to be said as far as feel and as far as

Distance control this isn’t as good as the two ball and the Odyssey so the mauno is going to have to go but I think for a lot of people this is a a perfect example of does the putter design actually matter because this is a mil

Putter yes it’s got a couple of Weights in there to distribute Moi a little bit differently but let’s face it it’s a mil putter there are a lot of these out there in the world if you have confidence with something it can make the biggest difference of all like

Technology is a factor technique is is a factor as well but everybody watching this knows and everybody has seen players who really don’t have the best puttting stroke and yet can get the ball in the hole because they have confidence in their ability and have confidence in

Their Club so I would say that putter out of mostly any other club in the bag is more reliant on how you feel personally about it than just about the technology alone so if you do have something that works if you have something which you feel passionate

About if you have something which you know you can rely on there’s probably no need to SP and then there were two a battle for the ages two Putters going head-to-head for a spot in my bag in my heart and for potentially a place in history and the way we’re going to do

This is remarkably simple we’re going to have a nine-hole putting comp stroke play obviously every put matters now there will be a few people who will be saying well you’ve obviously not done enough testing with these clubs how do you know there has been testing going on

Quite a bit we have hit a lot of pots here but also elsewhere I’m not going to show it all because frankly you’ll be bored out of your minds and remember this is an information Channel but it’s also built to entertain okay here we go now to make a

Fair test we’re going to go around these nine holes they’re all quite longish ports finishing out every single shot I’m going to be going alternate as well so after the first Port obviously I’ll have a read on the second one so just to keep it a little bit fair I do have an

Early favorite out of these two I must admit we’ll see what it’s like like at the end bit drippy to the right good Pace that’s something the AI putter so far has been really good with Pace control like if I have missed it’s always been

Like that foot and a half past which is nice I mean if you can get it dropping in the hole then perfect but as long as it’s getting that tiny bit past the hole that is ideal and I’ve hit exactly the same P level par after one

I knew it was a double break that was a great read Ball but just the rooll and the feel on this puss R I’m vibing with it I’m vibing with it a bit more and you completely let me down one under plays one over that’s mean wasn’t it too

Much H but ad mention to begin with it’s these kind of puts which really need to be absolutely fantastic at this year because during competitions these three Footers I’m going to have hundreds of these I’ll do this is an absolute Beast to the back left again just all about Pace control

Hopefully this is going to leave me again with one those shortish puts those difficult puts if it goes in then that’s a big bonus great for Pace that’s got to go it’s got to go big time pressure back on the two ball that was better that was a better

Stroke that’s one honestly like on those left to right puts that’s one thing I feel the two ball is very very good at just feels super stable however that does mean that the difference is still the same one on the play plays one over with one 2 3 four holes

Remaining oh was such a good pot oh that’s a great line wow it’s literally the best line I’ve ever hit in my life oh oh it’s dipped oh that was a decent P it just swung loads damn okay level plays one over okay oh that was close however again put

That pressure on kind of like it kind of needs it easy absolutely easy stuff right level par plays one over down the last looks quite straight got it right around the ring that could be it all I need really is a just a two put

And the AI is in the bag I kind of fancy finish in this with style and by style I mean just a nice little little Tippy tap that was a little bit of a one of them a bit of a hold off you know what I mean they want

To hit a hook well there we go folks I think to be honest the only thing that would keep this out of the back now is if I tried the AI uh two Ball version and just gave that a little bit of a go but in all fairness confidence-wise lookwise and

Just kind of pace control I had a couple of dodgy ones there but in all the testing I’ve been doing so far this for me has been the most consistent and like I said actually looks wise and feel wise it’s just been great so to go in the bag

  1. Just completed my personal masterpiece. Miura KM007, LA Golf Soho shaft, and a Pure Oversized grip. The grip is heavy enough to counterbalance the heavy Miura head, and tbh I didn't know a putter could feel this nice. It's been a work in progress for years, but I feel like it's finally done and I struggle to believe it's not the best putter on the planet.

  2. Surprised you didn't go back to the LAB putter, you seem to hole loads when you had it! But whatever works for year of the Finch!

  3. I have the mizuno omoi 3 putter and it is so forgiving, genuinely the most underrated putter manufacturer out there.

  4. Surprised there was no Scotty in the mix here, they are hard to overlook
AI was a clear winner though, the putt where it dropped a shot you left the ball in the line of the putt, literally made it impossible to hole out haha

  5. I started last year with a PLD Anser 2, and I bought it because it was beautiful. However, I was absolutely terrible with it. A few months later I bought a Phantom X12, and wow, the improvement was immediate. It doesn’t look nearly as elegant in my eyes, but the forgiveness, distance control, and ease of alignment were a huge step up.

I can certainly see why people wouldn’t want to play something that looks like the LAB, but I’d imagine it resists twists on off center hits like the Phantom X12 does.

I considered the AI One (the largest mallet version), and it was great. It was the latest and greatest at the time. However, the X12 was just a bit better for me, and was really noticeable when I’d go back to the AI One.

Regardless, going forward, I’ll definitely take putter buying more seriously so I don’t have barely used $450 putters gathering dust in my closet.

  6. I have two PLD's Oslo and Anser 2 plus a few other cheap ones and putt equally shit with them all

  7. I think there is too much tech and not enough technique. Just stick with one style that suits you and become very familiar with your putter. That’s all that matters. I’m using an old brass northwestern putter. It just feels amazing. Better than my Scotty Cameron. I’ve got to say the same about irons. People often change irons too often. If something isn’t broken, don’t spend a ton of money hoping to fix it.

  8. Great video, Peter & Co! I struggled with pace control with every mallet design I tried. The day I tried an Anser style putter is the day I realized you don't have to be a plus handicap player to use a blade. My Taylormade TP Hydrablast Soto feels great, looks really nice, and my pace control with it is amazing! Try any putter that you think you might like, and you may surprise yourself as I did!

  9. After 30 yrs the putter is the one club I have never changed. Still Play the white hot no1, that balata face and very soft ball, it is like spreading butter lol.

  10. I love my Bettinardi Queen B #6 and it will never leave my bag! I love the blade look but it's wider which really just suits my eye.

  11. Picked up a Tommy Armour Impact No 2 for 40$ put a new grip on it and extended an inch and my playing partners hate it. Never putted better. You people that spend 300$ + on a putter are bananas.

  12. I play the Odyssey 2-ball blade, tried blades and mallets and just couldn't get on with them properly, walked in to my local golf store and tried that, felt really good with it and my putting has improved immensely.

  13. Peter. Take a red sharpie and put a dot right infront of the forward circle on top. I find the 2 circles are super for alignment and the red dot helps with the strike!

  14. I had a TM Spider, experimented a bit and found out I liked putting from a pretty vertical angle. The only putter that matches that is the SIK (80 degree lie vs almost every other putter at around 70 degree lie). So I got the Bryson style in double wide and I love it.

  15. I'd love to see you try an Axis-1 putter. Definitely an odd look but it has a feel that no other putters really replicate. Its center balanced even though its technically heel shafted. Very odd but worth a look!

  16. Great Video Pete, Love the content, so excited for the year Ahead to see how you perform, With the new set up, Best of Luck 🤞🏌‍♂⛳

  17. I’m currently working in a golf shop and I’ve noticed in my time working there that the neck of the putter has a massive effect on performance, and certain necks suit arcs or arches

  18. New that one would have a chance of winning Pete its the style putter I like to use myself good choice Pete. 🏌‍♂️👍bring home the trophy this year is all yours Pete. 💯

  19. A putter's swing weight is very important and rarely talked about, Do y'all know what your putter's swing weight is?
