Today Sam Hahn joins the boys once again to talk Mike through the process of using a broomstick putter for additional stability and improved ball rolling. Will Mike be converted? (Yes, yes he will)

What style of grip what you know stance what where the elbow is makes it easiest to keep the putter on plane oh my God welcome theet look at that so 3 in out from Impact we were we were 0.19 open we had half a degree of

Closure in that point then you had about another just third of a degree of closure beyond that all right guys welcome back so still in the putting Studio here um delighted to be joining for part two of our series with Sam in this part we want to specifically dive

Into this particular poer Sam the broy She’s a Beauty um we we never set out with any intention to make broomsticks um it was just because of the relationship with Adam Scott that we were um that we really started prioritizing um designs that could accommodate a conventional putter

Armlock um and broom uh and then you know caught a lucky break Adam’s been out there using it extoling the virtues of lingle balancing and broom to all the guys on tour um and even though for whatever reason he’s got not a great reputation on the greens if you look at

The stats they’re nuts he is absolutely Baron one of the best Putters in the world period um and the guys on tour really respect him um so when they saw that he had switched over to this thing gu started sniffing around and giving it a look um and then we all know what

Happened with Lucas and he you know he got it and started using it so um we’ve really spent a lot of time um working on these where some of the other companies that offered them it was because one person was asking for it so they made it they threw

It together but there hasn’t really been that much development you know in this method um so we’ve been working at it pretty hard this one in particular is sweet mesmax uh ver stick version is sweet it’s a beauty this seems to make more sense for you guys than anyone else

Though like if we think about what we talked about with Mikey and how much sort of um sort of he manipulates the face and stuff like that the whole idea of this thing is just just let it swing and it correct and I think that one of the things too is

Like the technology makes sense right we have a putter that is that is seeking Square to the ark um but like we did see with Mikey like it’s a lot to particularly if you’re a really well practiced person there’s a lot to shake off to start let letting the technology

Work for yourself if you were to switch to a broom you have no preconceived notions of how supposed to work you have no you know no ideas of you know what it’s supposed to look like how it’s supposed feel and so it’s it’s almost an easier transition into you know letting

L angle balance technology actually work for you than going from a a Newport to a link or or a spider to a df3 or something like that my first my first question like standing over the ball just rolling a couple to get comfortable with it was like what do I do here

You’re like don’t worry about it just and to me it’s like to use a you know standard length putter I’m habit I’m going to do what I want to do this it’s like just I don’t know just swing and you know let it let let the magic happen

I think that’s probably earlier I wasn’t trusting trusting the technology so excited to see the the numbers on this thing yeah love it I want to see you roll a you I’m more excited with this than maybe any video in a long long time just cuz you’re dying for this to be my

No well I just like I I think this is going to be meaningful for you and especially in the context of this series we’re doing and exposing what value Li angle balance Putters have and you know the way we saw the video with you the previous one where you C you were

Fighting you were fighting it you were you wanted to sort of still put your input in on the putter against the the torque values of a putter that you’re used to you were trying to still impart that Force into the handle you couldn’t quite Let It Go no no that you have no

Choice with this one it’s too big you you’re You’re Not Strong Enough Michael to manipulate this you’ve not got it in the locker on he get going he’s unbelievable all right let’s let’s see you roll a couple y the brooms historically been viewed as a crutch it’s been viewed as something for

Somebody who doesn’t the last chance to yeah um I love how normalized it’s become um because now what we’re starting to see is customers who are good Putters checking it out a lot of good Putters are good Putters because of skills that have nothing to do with keeping a putter face Square they’re

Good at reading greens they’re good at judging speed they’re good at making decisions as you know much more of what it is that’s the skill set for sure and um and so to get those guys trying this thing out without the stigma of it being

A crutch or an answer to an issue that you’re having it’s been really fun and the results are nuts I people putt unbelievably well you said earlier you’ve seen guys that are just kind of still a little bit bent in the elbow but obviously it’s not anchored you guys

Straight down even some guys that are y well ahead of the the putter there’s no real right or wrong absolutely not I mean that you know the the only real decision I mean you got to make decisions on what’s comfortable and what works right like it’s really there’s a

Bit of trial and arrow with this isn’t there for sure but it’s not crazy trial and arrow that that that you you back into it the same way we were talking about with the conventional Putters what style of grip what you know stance what where the elbow is makes it easiest to

Keep the putter on plane um and you know usually it’s pretty obvious how do we do here like I mean we we’ve get some dat in Mikey that ear we just his hands wanted to sort of dip low right creating that 67° into out path oh my God

Welcome look at that so 3 in out from Impact we were we were 0.19 open we had half a degree of closure in that point then you had about another third of a degree of closure beyond that um and and you know when we saw a couple of those where he was Uber

Square uh um with the with the conventional Putters relative to the LIE we don’t want it that square relative to an almost 80 degree lie we do want it that square I want Dr Paul to like confirm you better start watching Dr Paul can confirm I mean if he was to put some

Values on face and rate rotation and path that would be pretty much ideal that would be pretty much perfect you’ve hit it a little bit in the toe shocker but again like a putter like this with as much sort of stability as this has tot and the mass I mean the amount of

Weight behind that putter face like you’re quarter inch off a center you’re not going to it’s like a wave hit a cruise ship a wave hit a cruise know yeah like out bit of a loop that one I think you forced that one a i i forc that

One yeah tell you the thing thing one thing I like about it is okay obviously it’s different it’s proved to me that like you can’t do your own punty Str you have to you can’t make it feel like a putting stri it’s a different thing it’s

Ball rolling it’s not which is nice I’m a fan of a heavy putter like even my blade is super heavy so the fact that I’m trying something new and it’s heavy right to the gates to me is like MH a win-win right it’s different for sure I’m not uh well you’re fighting one

Battle right now so your your putter your path is is perfect right 0.2 there your face angle is is is really really uh sorry the rotation is is ideal and optimal you just have to not force the thing to you you don’t have to make the thing closed I know this sounds obvious

And cliche and whatever but just roll the ball don’t think about a putting stroke don’t think about anything stupid thing no your right hand is so precise it knows what to do it really really does you might try the what we’re calling the uh the cigar like so like that yeah kind of

Same like little you know same palming if you take a practice tell me how that feels all you need to do is suspend the LIE El going take think about it for a second right when you’re when you’ve taken basically path out the equation we’re talking about being under one

Degree of path and then the face rotation is five degrees or under why would you want to have control of the face or a putter that’s L angle balanced yeah let’s Let It Go I think that was pretty decent it was a nicer roll a fraction left with the face a

Fraction okay um did it feel like you hit it in the toe sounded like it did maybe okay okay focus a little bit more even even positioning M like try and position the ball marginally into the heel there you go much more there that’s good

That better be good I was going to say that looked like a fantastic roll really good roll face angle is perfect okay so there’s there’s the Unicorn this the the perfect strike and the the ideal face angle I mean if you can get a little feel for for

That it’s whatever that last was I okay feel like oh cuz you made it but it felt very good real talk you got the balls to go out there and pull out a broom out of your bag on them first te no I think he

I used hot I used a hot pink driver shops on the first TMI Club so fair enough yeah the boys give me all the pelters they want as long as I take the money I don’t care exactly like and with broom God people are making so many

Putts with those things you know it’s it’s just like the DF was like when that first thing came out like you pull it out of your bag on the first hole everybody’s laughing at you a little quiet after three holes they not saying a word after six and at 9ine they’re

Checking out the website you know Lincoln bio look at that that’s so good like half a degree open to half a degree closed within that space that was the cigar grip this is perfect like you’re you’re zeroing out your path every single time you know think of the people that have been out

There and struggling with path and you know fighting loopy strokes and stuff like that why would you use anything else C my head in Thursday morning when you and I both know like he struggles with I mean he might as well putt upside down at this point and you gave him this

And he he’s really a believer in this whole side saddling thing so I’ll let him run with it and he’ll watch this video but the minute you see him stand on top of it and it’s just like he’s not thinking about anything which that’s what he needs he needs something that he

Can just go away with a lot of times you know there’s there’s so much absolutely fictitious stigma around brooms and like people have these ideas because they want want to effectively talk people out of it yeah the one stigma that’s hilarious to me is speed people are like well you know it’s just

Not very good for Speed lag putting that is the first thing I see improve every single time the first thing I see improve is people’s lag putting is unbelievable with that because you know you’re using gravity to control your speed great friend of ours yesterday said that to me he was a broomstick

Putter for a long long time he said he was phenomenal with his with his long putting said he was great um Adam’s been the best long putter on tour for 10 years yeah and all the equipment that he’s been changing the putter stayed true in his bag yeah yeah absolutely

Guys had more sets of irons than you s a he apparently arrived at Pebble with I think eight different sets of iron jeez and granted that’s not like him reaching out all these companies see that he’s testing so they’re all sending him everything that’s the way it goes

Isn’t it that was a really good stroke that was like dead off the that was the ball inside that’s what the sticker that’s the part I’m looking at just when you make a good cut make good contact that’s that’s what it looks like um I also find it very interesting that

You’re was that toe contact or is that good that was a marginal heal slight closing it’s interesting if anything you’re going more upright through impact increasing live versus with the conventional one you were dropping it down so much what do you see in terms of uh you

Know if you if you have players that obviously went if they if they the broom handle and they deliver a little more Dynamic Loft would you be inclined to Mill The Loft onto the putter for a tour player I know it’s a very for a tour player yeah I mean

Uh in five years I’ve had maybe three requests for different Loft configurations and I’m broom now I mean you know Adam was our was our guinea pig on all this so you know we built the specs and built the onset built the headweight built the Loft all that stuff

Around you know what was optimal for him um similarly to the the the Arc of the stroke being so much shallower because of the LIE right the vertical Arc is um also going to be shallower because of the length the a point of from where that’s swinging is

You know much flatter versus you know you know going up like that on a conventional Putter and so I think mostly what we’re seeing is the consequently loft is just less impactful right you and does you know not nothing more than a quarter inch ball position

Adjustment is going to get you where you need to go if you’re struggling One Direction or another talk to the the smart smart boys over at ping and um and they said about sort of the the value of launch Ango and people going for this

Holy Grail of a degree and a half of launch they said they’ve absolutely found nothing in testing to say that if you launch it at zero one and a half or three degrees of launch that it makes anyone more likely to hold more putts no

The only thing that matters is if you do it the same way every time yeah that’s what’s going to you know give you but like I mean I’ve played with some good players that I I don’t put a tight roll on the ball yeah but they put the same roll on the ball

Every single time mhm all right wrap this up we’re over here talking he’s over there putting that’s you know he’s enjoying it the cigar that’s the one that’s the one cigar elbow to the line the minute you said cigar Sam you had them I don’t even

Smoke I have the odd one throughout the golf season just that’s just that’s just right in your wheelhouse isn’t it little little uh scotch and a and a my cigar in a while um Sam with the the the the broom stick you’ve got the Acra shaft in there

I know you offer and do a lot with the TPT shaft in there why do you why did you guys feel it important to have shaft options in in the first place but specifically seek out you know a composite option yeah the our our interest in aftermarket cha started

Really early just because um when we were making the DF and balancing him with combinations of tungsten and Sam there was like a big Hollow piece behind the face and we as much as anything just wanted a different feel the feel wasn’t great that was when we started playing

With them and started testing them and stuff like that we realized that there was a lot of Merit um to all these options stiffer is better um plenty of data to support it um the trick was was figuring out how to get something real stiff that still feels good it doesn’t

Feel like a 2×4 or an lb and gross and they’re all all these companies are doing a such such a good job at it um acra’s been great great to us um in the past we’ve uh worked with them on a design that is Affordable um and so

People can you know kind of experience some of these aftermarket things without totally braking the bank yeah um and uh and then TPT uh we’ve been working with them for a year and a half and this stuff is insane expensive but fan of this huge fan of it especially for the

Broom because it’s this this is the stiffest that we offer um and when you get a shaft that long um with that much weight at the end of it when you’re hitting a 50ft putt like absolutely that shaft is going to flex and recover absolutely um and so the more we can

Eliminate that the better these guys have you know just done out of this world job of creating a broom shaft the minute Dr Paul herin said to me that he couldn’t have his test robot replicate the same strike twice with a steel shaft and it was in my mind it was done like

At that point if you can make the absolute identical stroke on a test robot and you still can’t deliver the face back to the same place because of the influence the shaft has in deflection I I knew that in my own mind I I was done with steel shafts and puers

Yeah absolutely and and and especially on the brooms the only alter I mean there there were so so few of them made that none of the shaft companies really put any attention to it right um but the uh the the ski shaft that was kind of that was the stock standard for arm

Locks and broomstick stuff I mean it’s worthless yeah just an absolute Hefty yeah just heavy big noodle that’s that’s exactly what it was well um this this has been pretty cool to see and guys hopefully I’m not sure if there’s been that many videos out there on on the

Broom in the broomstick putter I’m not I haven’t seen many of them again a lot of you will be seeing this for the very first time thinking you know wow is this is this really you know a viable you know direction to go it is and like I

Was saying you know not just if you’re struggling yeah try it if you’re a good putter like you might find you’re an even better putter with less to think about with less depth of Arc you know you don’t ball position all these things become less consequential when you’re

When you have that little face rotation and that little depth to your Arc right um now you know the talents that you have as a good putter IE green reading and decision making and all of that might really shine I love that I love that guys uh I think there’s a ton of

Nuggets in here you might actually have to watch this one a couple of times to get them all out um there’s nowhere on the golf course that we’re going to make up more Strokes than on the greens we know that is an opportunity to uh you bring your score

Down you know the the absolute most spend your time getting fit for the putter don’t overlook it don’t think it’s a process that is one and done when you find a putter you like the look and feel of it drives me bonkers when I see

That you know people walk in and go well putting’s just about looking F anyway I would love to play that guy for money that’s that’s all i’ say to that so guys hopefully there’s something again that you can take from this um Li angle balance Putters are something

Truly truly unique in the industry the only company doing it correct right so um you know get out there and try it for yourself let yourself be the judge of it it’s in plenty of stores we have them in all of our club champion stores it’s very widespread now it’s no longer the

You know best kept secret and golf as it was 5 years ago it’s out there now so wherever you guys seek it go on the website go on most you know even big box retailers you you’ll find it everywhere now sure love it okay guys really enjoyed this um Mikey’s got himself a

New putt I know that for a fact stay tuned for more we’ll see you again soon

  1. FYI the best putter in our club putts croquet side-saddle with the same cigar grip – his distance control is so good and the roll looks lovely. I've tried it from 4ft inwards and I'm sure the face angle consistency is way better through the area round the ball. Get the boy to try it with the other putter!!

  2. What variable do you look for the Press Grip to influence ? Also by how much between the 1.5, new 2 and then 3 degree grips options available ? Thanks

  3. If they banned anchoring, they should ban this. TBH, they should never have banned anchoring. This putter made Zalatoris good on short putts, this can work for anyone. But don’t take my spider away 😂

  4. I bought the DF 2.1 broomstick putter more than a year ago and would never go back to using anything else. It is a bit of a challenge to control the distance compared with a regular putter, but gets better the more I use it. Someday I might try out the DF 3, or try out a different shaft. Love it.

  5. I tried the MEZZ 1 broomstick at a recent golf show near me. It had my interest until I went on the website and saw the $600 price tag. With all due respect, at that price point, you're catering to a very small percentage of golfers. Even if it does everything you say.

  6. Mike, why not go with a DF3 in a bit longer Shaft? 38 inch and choke down a bit.

I think this is too much of a transition and it will probably drive you crazy going from a standard blade to a super heavy broom putter.

I messed around with this stuff years ago and after trying it it just didn’t like it. Too long and heavy to carry around anyway.

Possibly a wee bit of pressure coming from the Observers?
Maybe try it alone without the data on a real green…

  7. Looking forward to seeing Mikey sporting the broomstick in the next course vlog!

Really awesome video! Glad you were able to film so much with Sam!

  8. dudes' posture is horrible, if he doesn't fix it he'll get back trouble..Trust me, I had the same posture now I'm bedridden……….

  9. I use the original L.A.B. in the broomstick configuration. I am face on like Sam Snead. This putter makes it real darn easy, I wouldn't trade it for anything.

  10. I play a DF 2.1, and have for well over a year, and started messing around with one a year before that. It was an expensive purchase, and took awhile, but I got one. I play an Arm Lock shaft, and my putting is now one of the stronger parts of my game. People asked me about it before, but most declined because it was so new, and cumbersome. Now, people are starting to realize, and I am glad to have had one for so long now. Can't wait to try the DF3.

  11. As a fitter and especially focused in the putter world, I have to confess I wasn’t a believer at first. THEN….. I started putting around the shop. Guys, the LAB IS the NEW, BEST way to putt. Convinced! I’v un-torqued myself. Playing it this year! Loving it so far!

  12. what an insightful video. A gem of this video are Mikey's faces on the conclusion area of the video in discussion of the shafts.

  13. Why did Club Champion National user call in person try to explain they did not offer a broomstick and tried to convince me it was not a good choice?

Confusing after seeing this video. This was in January 2025

  14. I have been putting side saddle with a Bobby Grace putter for over 5 years now and my putting stats are by far the best part of my game since switching from conventional
