Hello and welcome everybody to 1971 1971 ping released the Ping pal putter a movie came out where the author of the novel on which the film was based was unhappy with the film I watched it in elementary school in the 80s and we were happy just to watch something in elementary school
We’re just like Yay no work but it was weird even back in the 80s it was weird willly Wonka and the Chocolate Factory you guys remember that film lots of memes out there we’re just gonna move on oh Three Dog KN what the top of the charts was Joy to the World
When I think of Three Dog KN I think of Joy to the World good song I like that song Jeremiah was a bullfrog all right before I get this on the review table for a close-up I wanted do kind of a quick comparison here for waiting this is a big deal for some
People for Me Maybe not so much much at least not consciously so you can see this is almost face balanced right it’s a little bit toe biased okay so the hangs a little bit if you compare that to a ping an this is a ping aner putter you can
See this is slightly more toe biased all right so the you know some some Putters are more equal than others can you see that ping answer here ping pal here and this one also has a alignment line on top maybe I’ll show these two side by side let’s move to the
Review table and have a closer look easy to recognize because it says right here pal ping pal it’s a butter I mean what more do you want this is pre-1973 it came out in 71 so this was 1971 72 or 73 one of the early release models of the
Ping pal putter you can tell that because the ZIP code right here is the 85020 it’s up here maybe I don’t know if you can see it and I have a video about that if you want to watch it identifying when Ping Putters were made based on the
ZIP code on the putter only within you know within reason let’s start with the so here you can see it’s there’s nothing here it’s just a sole you look at the heel profile you look at the toe profile kind of Curves off towards the back there’s this raised portion right through here
With the alignment line on it the neck right here it’s a very ping esque looking putter you know there’s an alignment line here is that perfectly centered it’s hard to say looks like it not much to report there this finish okay I say this in other videos please
Again it’s opinion based but please leave it oxidized like this this dark this really rich patina it’s dark right so you’re not going to get that glare and it really accents this alignment line you can you can if you really want to polish these and make them shiny
Manganese bronze so you can glare and you can show off your pink putter but I wouldn’t my opinion you know just leave the patina the way it is that’s how it’s meant to be this is why these were so valuable and so cool is because they would finish like this they would patina
Like this so you would have a nice dark putter out on the course anyway my opinions you can see the face exactly what you expect with a pink putter slight radi right here very smooth Leading Edge I mean it’s all looks very good I’m going to compare before we look
Up the shaft really quick I am going to compare it to a ping an putter can you see how the answer has that extra step here on the weight so you know there are some differences between this and the Ping answer besides just the face balancing of the putters
So moving up we had a Ste shaft right here my label 1971 there is a label right here here but this is all worn out very common the label right here is all worn out and then this is a ping Pro only grip somebody threw that on there
Uh if you look at my old answer this is kind of what I would expect on a ping putter just the Classic ping paddle grip so that said let’s uh hit a few putts with this and see what we think so looking down at this these so I just compared it to the
Answer and so the line there’s like a curve right here which in this light is reflecting like an extra line perpendicular to my path so like the answer we just barely looked at it does it doesn’t look that much more plain than an answer in this lighting it has a good weight to
It like feeling it it doesn’t feel I would describe it as light or heavy this is what I kind of expect when I pick up a putter blade style putter so I’m just looking at there’s the alignment line there there’s no glare here let’s hit a
Putt and see how it see how it feels I mean really solid do I like the sound of this more than the answer that’s a close call right there I mean this is a good putter dang why don’t they why did they stop making Putters like this do they still make this but
They still might make this putter it wouldn’t surprise me if they still made this putter because I mean that wasn’t a great Putt and still you know I mean wow I like I like the sound of it maybe not as much as my zing my zing might
Feel a little bit lighter but this I mean the grip obviously I you’ve seen the grip you know but that could do some work but other than that I mean I get it I when it comes to an Implement of golf this is it I kind of smash that one but
Th this is it I can understand how a pro or anybody playing golf would say I want something that I can trust and I could see how you could easily this putter could easily earn your trust let me know your thoughts uh in the comments below so this
Putter is interesting okay so it’s not as busy as a ping answer putter from the eror right there’s not all those lines as we saw and it feels really solid because it doesn’t have that because the Ping answer that I have the original aners had the slot the sound slot so it
Kind of made more of a a it’s not like a Ting but it made more of a noise than this one does so this is very solid I like the feel of that okay but visually it’s kind of a cross between a zing and an answer and to me it just doesn’t work
To my eye because of my history with the Ping Zing Putter and I’m just being honest here I’m biased okay as many people are when they’re choosing Putters they want what they want compared to Modern Putters this is very boring in a good way 8802 style Putters they’re not
Fancy or intricate it’s just a very smooth curved lines it’s straight line there so some people are looking for that okay now to me I like the Ping Zing more okay so I have a Ping Zing here it’s going to be hard to see the details but there are differences here uh one
That I hadn’t noticed until I was playing with them remember how I was showing the Ping answer now we’re doing the Ping Zing the Ping Zing is very toe biased it just hangs on that toe whereas the pallet noticeably different so these are kind of two opposite ends of the
Spectrum I went to a custom Club fitting retailer not going to say which one and the guy was just like he looked at my swing like show me your put s like well you are a very pendulum like swing very back to forth very straight so you want
A mallet Putter and you want something that’s face balanced I was like well my favorite putter is the Ping Zing and he just held his piece he was just like shaking his head just like you come into my Pro Shop I give you my professional opinion and you just shoot
Me down it’s like load up fat AA gun and I’m getting way into this so a lot of it comes down to just preference right now I’m holding the Ping Zing see so I can see the appeal to professional golfers I can see the appeal to any
Golfer all right I fell in love with the Ping Zing if you fall in love with the Ping pal I get it because that Ping Zing to me is just my darling putter I love it so anybody who writes in the comments like I’ve been playing this for 30 years
I get it I read you okay what I switch from my pinging to a pal no because what am I getting like I it I hit putts with it you know and I don’t know it feels a little bit more heavy to me it feels very solid it
Feels like a really good putter frankly as far as the Dynamics of hitting putt comparable to anything out there today however and I like the look more I like the patina more but there are shinier newer things out there would I put this in a a bag this
Is just to me on my long list not my short list my long list of Putters that yes I would put in a bag If This Were if you found one of these for an inexpensive amount you inherited one of these and you’re looking to start Golf
And this is what go for it I cannot say anything bad about the ping pal putter nothing I can’t have nothing against it it’s just I don’t I prefer other pink Putters more and that’s ultimately what it boils down to and it’s a look thing so let me know your thoughts and
Memories with the Ping pal putter a very solid putter I mean people they want tour people tour events with this people win every day golf people beat golf on certain days where they’re shooting scratch or better with P pal Putters okay so lovely lovely putter alltime historic epic putter excited to

I own many sets of irons. I believe most people would call them vintage. Which do you think are better, more forgiving irons. Tommy Armour 845 Silver Scott’s or Ping Eye2?
I had a crazy idea once. Buy an old ping putter of that era. Have the face milled for feel, scotty cameron weight ports cut out to add weight. To modernize an old classic to new ways. But with the eventual patina. A tribute of how the old became new.
I found this putter in the trash at work, the alignment line looks like it’s DIY in person.
I think I putt better with a heavy mallet putter at long distance, and a blade putter in more close. I putted with an Answer ll in the early 1980's on fast greens and it worked pretty good but my brother told me it was too light. There were old dark ping putters laying around at my parents house after they passed on. I wish I could have kept all of them. One, I can't remember the model, I cut around two inches of the shaft and installed an oversize golf pride pistol grip. Then, I put lead tape in two places: heel and toe. I wish I would've kept it but I got a 50 dollar credit when I traded it in on an Epic three wood, which I thought I needed. Right now I am playing all vintage clubs. I would love to collect and mess around with all these old Ping putters.
I really like the look of the pal 2 and pal from the back. But, from address, it looks too narrow for my liking for some reason.
I still play my PAL. 2 BECU. Very simple. You can call it a Zanser. I do not like the PAL4 or 6 to play with.
I had the Ping Pal 4. Great putter. I liked the longer blade.
i'm still using my ping pal and ping cushin!
Nice patina as they are meant to be. Within my collection, I have a Ping with the original sales labels still attached. These explain that the putter is "tarnished" from new and will dull evenly over time as an "anti glare" feature. They are not supposed to be polished!! Also, Manganese Bronze is a high grade carcinogen, only marginally less toxic than berillium copper which is another very good reason not to be disturbing it by polishing. Great putters!
Thank you for this very informative review. I have a Ping Pal of this same vintage as well an original (1967?) Ping O Blade both in maganese bronze and a Ping Anser II in steel. I use all 3 of them for golf and have Ping PP58 grips on them. All 3 work very nicely but I use the Anser II most of the time. The O Blade seems much like the Zing.
It’s a good one Tom Watson used it to win many tournaments.
I’m a huge fan of yours and your posts are brilliant. I’ve only been playing for less than 3 years and have become quite the golf junkie. In any event I have both a Pal and any blade. As nice as the pal is, my Y blade swings and looks better at address. The Anser 4 is my go to. They are all great
Oh god , my dad was still using that putter in the 80s. Worked great!
a little lead tape and the Pal is my favorite
