Back on post Round Here on HQ presented by the tailor made Qi 10 Max driver experience your drives in 10k what a day it was for heri matuyama who claims his ninth career Victory on tour following a nine under performance bogey free and nine birdies Six coming home for a 30 on
His second nine Matsuyama your winner by three Strokes from six back to Miles by it’s Hollywood Hideki a winner in LA and for more we take you into the tower around that beautiful Amphitheater on 18 Trevor imman the Masters champion joining us with his thoughts here Trev
What a final round here from Hideki and I know it’s hard at times to put ourselves into the shoes of someone doing something so spectacular but can you give us an idea of what a player is feeling like when they’re in such a zone that we saw Hideki in
Today you feel alive moose you feel alive it’s the best feeling in the world it’s the reason you put all the working from when you a little kid you’ve dreamt about rounds like this that Hideki shot today and by the way I didn’t I didn’t miss that Hollywood Hideki I’m loving
That that is so apt for today but what a brilliant round of golf that second nine was just uh a real pleasure for us to have the opportunity to call that from up in the booth I mean flagging it at 15 and 16 proximity to the hole he was
Making it easy on himself at least once he arrived greenside after that beautiful ball striking throughout and he did it in the face of some names here at the top of this leaderboard and I know we’ve spoken about it in the past the otherworldly ability of guys like
Patrick Klay and Xander shafley but there is this lingering thought that comes Sunday and you allude to the scoring average of Klay on the broadcast on Sundays is there any growing concern when you’re looking at that talent and what we did not see from them here on
Sunday not quite yet but I’m absolutely paying attention to it there’s been a couple times this year this actually the third time that can play has shot more than 73 in the final round round uh just to you know take himself out of a chance
Excuse me today was the 72 but one over par shall I say uh and so I’m absolutely keeping an eye on it but look we have been become accustomed to the fact that he is a proven winner he’s won eight times on the PGA tour already shule 7
But it was a weird day for them look you get one gift at Riviera and it’s the first hole and it’s a short par five that plays down the hill and neither of them were able to take advantage of it and they just from that point on never
Managed to Garner any momentum at all but you take a look at matuyama and that second nine two toughest holes in the golf course always are 12 and 15 12 he HS the bomb from outside of 40 ft 15 he hits it to about 6 in and that really
Was him putting the stamp on this golf tournament it was fantastic to watch and interestingly enough Matsuyama can’t lay shafley all were seeking their first victory since the summer of 22 but you know the game we play only one walks with the trophy in this case it’s Matsuyama I was also taken throughout
The week by the play of will zalatoris who really was next closest obviously in leaderboard but throughout the week as well we saw the belief in his body come back and then the belief in his ability there as well are you taking it all by just that fact that he so quickly coming
Off that spinal surgery believes in his body and ability once again yeah look the fact that he’s so young sure does help and he’s been patient he took a little extra time off than really even what the doctors had told him he took a few months extra just
To make sure that things would settle down he implemented a couple of Swing changes so it’s taken him some time to get used to that he put the new long putter in the bag and he’s just slowly but surely been progressing I spent some time watching him hit balls at the
Farmers a few weeks back and after 15 20 minutes I walked away from the driving range going he still got it we don’t need to worry about will zat Tores and now he’s starting to gain more and more confid idence with this putter as well
So great to see him playing well here he sure does seem to like this golf course he played well here in 2023 as well before the injury took him out but uh fantastic to see a guy that has so much potential somebody that we think really could be challenging for world number
One absolutely in the top five uh be able to get through a very serious injury in back surgery uh and and throw his name back in the ring here at a at a tough Golf Course against a stacked field well a bit of well-deserved time
Off for our Trevor Iman as well as we will see you next at the Masters and all the celebration that surrounds coming up on CBS enjoy the time Trev and get out there yourself can’t wait I plan on it moose hey if you ever need a fourth just
Holler we’ll talk to you soon Trevor all right a look here at the payouts at the Genesis To the victor go the spoils and some spoils it is here at this signature event 4 million to Matsuyama the largest payday known of his already decorated career you heard
Rick gaimon say it nine wins a green jacket knocking on the door of the Hall of Fame already and plenty of good golf in front of him continuing coverage here on CBS Sports HQ as we will tap in with the first cut pod next Kyle Porter Rick gaimon putting this win into context
History for Hideki once again that

The strong Hideki is back. Six birdies in the last nine holes are truly unbelievable.
