Evening and we are in the middle of our Marie cob tournament and we are down to our as semifinals a Saturday night uh regular thing with uh curling tournaments and um tonight’s broadcast game the two games that were that are the asmis the one that we’re going to
Broadcast for you folks is UDA 1 and UDA 3 UDA 1 is Roger Rolette Michelle mackenro Hoy Feldman and MJ Walsh and Utica 3 is piloted By Conrad law wife naoka is the vice Tim cofton is the second and Natalie Shelton curling Phenom will be the lead for that team
And in the other a semi game on sheet four which will certainly keep you up to date with is uh uica four that’s Jason golovsky Audrey foot Eric kumman Melissa foot against Burlington 2 that’s L Bernard Karen Watson Brian Watson and Le Bernard Bernard sit back and enjoy the
Game Tim welcome to the broadcast thank you David glad to be here been a wonderful uh wonderful weekend thus far watched watched a lot of curling and uh it’s typical of a cob it’s probably in my mind it’s the most fun Bond Spiel that we that we um that we bring to you
Guys and uh it’s a lot of fun four days of curling two nights of bands or music it’s just a lot of fun house parties yep House Parties today amidst the snowstorm it’s been storming on and off all day today but sit back and enjoy the chat

Of a a very neat visitor in the Utica Kling Club all weekend so we’ll uh we’ll fill you in on that and uh just so people know on sheet one we have Burlington 3 against Philadelphia that’s an F draw and Sheet three the E Event chinosi against
Uno sheet five is another F it’s connected two against anite one I don’t have rosters but if you’re watching one of those teams you’ll probably know yeah and certainly we’ll keep you up to dat on the scoreboard Tim we’ll keep it we’re underway here so uh UDA uh UDA one and
Rette is going to throw Red Rocks they’re throwing first and uh the rink of Conrad law will throw the yellow stones and we are underway nice Center guard there from MJ we are not playing just so the folks know out there we are not playing the no
Tick rule so you can tick a rock off of the uh off of the center line should one be there in the first five rocks this one’s coming up a little short for Natalie and that may right on top almost mhm Roger will waste no time trying to without uh
Without Hammer here try to use those stones that yellow stone of Natalie’s winding up as a center guard also for team rette Center guards kind of locked together I’m going to knock that on just put that over there thank you thanks see you there’s always a little uh a little
Feel out period in a curling game to find out how fast the ice is from the onset and the team who figures it out quicker tends to have the upper Advantage all the way so and normally early on anyhow and normally at our club the first two ons are slower than the
Rest mhm takes a little while to break the ice in I wonder if that’s customary everywhere I have a feeling it is I know that when I was at broomstones they drag rocks mhm just like the old time we used to drag them they Pebble they nip then
They drag rocks and it’s right up to speed so another shorty there from uh MJ now it’s getting cluttered up in the front so we Conrad will try to beat uh Roger rette to the 4ot circle here see if Natalie adjusts her weight here a little bit front end doesn’t think
So on it right away if it’s got legs the line’s perfect just a little light didn’t quite make the ring so it’s it’s well cluttered up in the front see if Conrad will decide to try to bust it open or or not hoe Feldman his first rock of the
Evening and they’re really all the Rocks up front are other than the r are staggered so they’re not really promotable easily easily the ever solid Howie Feldman and it looks like somebody figured it out here it looks like he’s got a good [Laughter] rock okay key line yep good shot there from
Howie still exposed however Tim Crofton will try and go after that with his first stone of the evening conr yelled right away I’m thinking it might be narrow sure looks narrow yeah he’s on he’s on the guards might jiggle some Stones around here which wouldn’t be a bad thing for
Conrad and it just did get there and create more clutter so Roger rett’s in the driver seat now if how he can uh put one just in front of this they’re going to be in business here for a steel end no offer from the front end that looks a little bit
Heavier it’s coming over nice though coming over real nice I think it’s going to come right to it no it’s going to stop maybe top eight that’s a great shot very nice nice uh exactly where they wanted two good shots there from Howie they are exposed
However see if Tim can firm up his throw here it’s kind of a general release there so he’s really not uh a heavy thrower I think so they got it by it it’s going to be a good shot no and they’re just going to make contact out front
Open it up a little bit more but not what they had in mind now he’s going to have to give him a little more broom I think on those takeouts Roger doesn’t need another one in the park here he’s just got to play uh little defensive here now and try and

Evening what do they call it top 12 or not even in yeah I think so I think you want to touch the Rings here and just make a little Christmas tree between the yellow one and the second one that howed through would be an ideal spot for
It she’s waving oh no it’s going to be fine though well they hit the top of the house and they really finish look at that look at the finish in that and that’s not a bad that’s not a bad throw no it’s like it they start start
After the hog line but when they get to the top of the house they really move yeah if they’re weight sensitive sure if you don’t give if they’re not too heavy naoka law Vice for husband Conrad here try and play a little cleanup here early for Conrad he does have Hammer but
Things are getting kind of sticky for him here in the first end definitely making contact with something here not a lot of weight and CH got it’s still left uh r at sitting three but did move the one to the back there so it’s better it’s out of the
Center now it’s time to play guard for for Roger in the driver’s seat here in the early in the F early in the game in the first end here guard weight here for Michelle and looks like a good good guard perfect as a matter of fact nice
Throw either or I’m trying to watch that thing there [Laughter] thanks looks like there’s a spot she can come in between these yeah I and promote this Yellow Stone I think so boy this is going to be a do or die I’ll tell you because if she doesn’t make this Roger
Can cover this up and really create Havoc here for Conrad pretty good it’s coming in pretty good this is it’s an end saer for Conrad here with nioka look at that and it out counted it out counted two of them that’s just a great shot sitting second roack Beautiful shot there from
Nioka bailed her team out here early in the game change the scope of the game quickly indeed nice shot when just when you think you’re ahead you’re not got to feel good about that as he’s strutting down the ice always feels good to make those doesn’t it that’s right and not a huge
Port nice little controlled very nice perfect perfect weight yep buried left her guard right in the way so now we’re going over here on this uh fresh I I think Roger’s just going to cover this up and try and play for his uh steel that was an end saver for Conrad
Think he’s trying to cover up that same rise I think so because now it’s a raise it’s a double race there which would be really nice nice if he left it open for him could try and draw around with his inter but I think I like [Applause] this

Could knock that red back there’s not a lot of room he’s got to hit what he can see of it you know it’s there’s not a lot of room if he’s narrow here so tough shot not a gimme by any stretch of the imagination no he’s got a chance if he
Hits it on the outside to go right by unless he punches it back just to the for foot and in a sense he’ll open it up and make Roger draw uh throw a good guard so this is good thinking on Conrad’s part that’s heavier than normal tap weight though it’s heavier than what
Naoka threw so it’s coming over nice though no no a little high side no just slid by everything but he did open it up however so Kingdom for guard here for Roger yeah I think he wanted to run it back but I think opening up is a good alternative definitely
Roger will play defensively here just Tred to close that Port off and not give Conrad an easy chance to run that one back and he has to be careful where he puts this too because he can still leave him a run back with Roger Stone most certainly
Could I know you don’t like running the other team stones in but sometimes you got to do what you got to do guard attempt here from Roger rette looks like nice guard weight little adjustment there from his first one that was Michelle’s I think it was short
Okay A little bounce here doing some good gets there and I think it’s mission accomplished I don’t think there’s a port there now or is there no it sure doesn’t look like it and worse yet I think it overlaps a little bit so even trying to run that back he’s going after

Game doesn’t always work out like this folks but actually of our two a semi- games we have three UDA teams uh participating and uh the winner of this game our featured game will be in the a event final so there will be a UD and
There may be two if uh Team kbski can be um Victorious Over Burlington to tall task for uh kbski and crew looks like she’s got the Rings here taking its time to curl little toasty I’m going to go to the back of the Rings and to the back 12
That’s amazing if that was what 4T shorter it would have curled were so weight specific oh yeah I agree I’ve curled with Roger a lot lot of lot of games and I’m certain that he’ll go for the 4 foot circle behind that guard that old Ed if you got a that
Old adage if you have a guard you might as well use it right doesn’t matter whose it is right and short is okay here we could refer to a proide miss and if it’s short you set up another guard makes it more difficult to cut the Rings down for your
Opponent so if I miss the shot that means I’m a pro sure it’s your story you can tell it any way you want Tim well I’m better than I thought I was oh I know you’re better than you think you are and a beautiful shot there there
Nice tap four very very nice MJ wsh with the beauty yep kind is just going to try and bump this off the 4ot circle another one of those easy curing shots just follow it down one right all the little cliches that are associated with curling are so much
Fun you know same shot same we just have to do this yeah just the same shot don’t be light whoops Conrad’s thinking this is light cuz he’s jumping out we have a team sweep here now and they’re dragging it they are dragging it if it’s by it’s good
Shot and not quite boy not quite however did set himself himself up with a nice Corner guard there so not bad not a bad outcome and Roger will play play guard to try and junk it up a little further ho Feldman looking for a center guard
Here a little greater than a guard I believe but now it’s checking up it’s going to make the Rings probably could have Christmas tree that that’s a pretty good spot for that rock if it wasn’t going to be a guard I think Conrad’s got to try and move these
Red ones around a little bit now I think it’s time yeah give himself a chance here and open the Rings back up I think he’s suggesting a little more weight this time too he it’s that top one he can potentially take out the next two potentially
Not a great deal of weight for a takeout but nonetheless hoping to hit something here and he’s going to get rid of one of them that’s fine little inside very down we though yeah and maybe a little narrow there he’s going to have to give him some more
Broom and Roger will put that right back in control of the end well the first end was uh Conrad dodged a bullet with a great shot there from naoka that outcome that first end could have been considerably different trying to get this one back to the center if at all
Possible not exact ex no I think if they I don’t think he wanted that there I think if they could have started a little bit earlier on that it would have had enough weight to move over it was starting to curl but ran out of energy Conrad looking for a little more
Weight now just a normal normal takeout here from Tim and I you know I think you had pointed out that Tim doesn’t throw particularly big weight either so he not giv him much ice but it’s an either or here if you get rid of the top one it’s
Okay actually that’s pretty upweight for them right there looking at it so yeah that’s kind of normal looking maybe he’s just going to pick going to pick the top one yep oh he almost got the double just missed just over curled a little bit on
Him I don’t know if that’s what he was calling I couldn’t see where the broom was I don’t think so I think he was trying to come to get shot Ro I think so so Roger’s not in big trouble here there’s just one uh one UDA 3 Rock on the 4ot circle
Here and he’ll just try to guard it up thought he tapped in front of the Rings it’s a u one sorry Utica 3 actually has a red rock on the four foot if I’m not mistaken right that’s y one thank you I’m looking at my scoreboard yeah I’m all confused no I
Got hang around with me oh that picked too many that’s unfortunate Michelle just had a rock pick right out of her hand and we’re not going to play okay he gets another shot at it so a little magic here from naoka she made a great shot in the first end and
She’s going to have to turn right around here in the second end and do the same not a lot of room there there is enough room it over curls you can look for a run back on the yellow one outside the Rings no offer yet from the front
End well it’s going to make contact with that top red one and set up another corner so you saw a double tap of Roger’s broom there it’s kind of like an either or he’s either looking to guard the red one up or sit one and two and we keep talking about this and
Talking about it is there ever a time in a curling game when you don’t want to sit one and two I can’t think of too many up four coming from home other than that no up four coming from home you kind of want the clean house right sure clean house
We watched an earlier game where that didn’t happen it was kind of interesting mhm they did not keep a clean house I think they could have buried that perfect shot actually that’s a great shot for Michelle we think about tapping that one up yep it’s going to have to but Conrad
With hammer here he’s not going to leave that rock sitting there so no it’s really he going to how he’s going to try to get to that red sure there’s a possibility of jamming it to the yellow one in the back but he’s got to try and
Keep the Rings open for him give himself a chance with his his rocks right a straight run back’s easier than an angle run back for the two yellows for sure you hate to put another opponent Stone in the Rings but a good looking shot here oh just slid by and took his own
Rock out in the back but oh just missed it good attempt there from naoka and Roger still playing guard up here but he’s not in too bad a shape because there’s nothing yellow touching the ring so we’re still one two y Rogers have thrown guards here so far
Tonight two in the first end and third one here wow slid it right by now sitting one and two is uh Team rette Conrad going to waste one to try to open it up or is he going to go right after these it’s tough the way they’re staggered
Here I’m not sure he can get to get to Shot Rock I think the red one Roger just threw is in the way and he’s going to look to open it up I think with his first one it’s tough put that in a pretty good spot did

Skip not having to make wiky wacky unusually difficult shots looking for a center guard here just trying to block this port starting to curl now oh we pounding it away trying to get it in there I think there’s still going to be a port though and might have left him an
Out there’s a part so guard attempt not successful there for uh for Roger roulette he left Conrad a little uh daylight through that port to try and score here I don’t know if he can get to the nose of that second Stone and double them both out if he does he’s
Going to get a deuce out of it so big shot here Hammerstone second end hey man Hammerstone second down they’re working it Hard oh it just nicked off of the guard and that’s going to leave Roger sitting too for a steal of two just ticked the guard man I’m back Tim is back so a steel of two there 3 0 after two for team rette oh Conrad’s takeout attempt
Just ticked off of his off one of his own guards and unfortunately uh dribbled har harmlessly away had to put a couple grippers on just I’m ahead of the game because our F events the winner has to do a shootout okay and we have to go down and measure
Him that’s how we take five F winners and reduce them to three got it on to the third end here in our feature game right now in our other a semi they’re playing the second and uh Burlington two scored one in the first end take a one ZIP lead from UD of
Four wait where’s your they are down to the Hammerstone there in the uh second end and team golovsky sitting one and two so he’s got an open Draw for three looks to me like that’s why we don’t call Four it’s hard it’s different hard to look through a monitor yep
Conrad going to try and use that uh was supposed to be a center guard turned into a corner guard for him so Natalie will try and draw [Applause] around just going to make the Rings not quite not year so a couple corners there set up for uh Conrad
You see Roger double tap his broom here Center guard would be fine but if he can get one behind these guards that would be okay too no offer there from from ho looks like this one’s a little heavy that’s unfortunate that’s going to go right through the

But we’ll know if he caps it a little bit I think if he knows hits this with nioka stone they’re going to sit three a little bit of weight here again the question is well it’s already off but do you noce hit it now or do you
Wait well I think you got to if you don’t Roger’s going to pile another one on there right more weight that’s not Curlin Curlin enough no it never touched it wow wound up shot rock out of it though but never if they came over a little bit more they’d have been in

Her first one true first one curled nicely down to skip rocks here on the third end just see if I can see the delivery here from Roger see where it is in relation to the 4 foot line even the camera angles off a little bit trying to watch it right down the

It I didn’t realize that other Rock was so close to jam on na is heading for the scoreboard I’m not sure if it’s one or two oh it was a deuce okay okay so 3-2 after three that snugs things up a little bit you’re down by two Rogers heading right for the house
Do this one’s going to sail right to the back 12 and through steel end in progress here for Conrad he’ll put another guard up Otis monk hey there’s my man and those are my guys out there hey guys lowii profits of dusted wax are in the house hey I like it welcome
Guys sounds like a band to me oh it’s not just a band it’s different than anything that anybody’s ever heard they’re going to be uh we’re going to turn some heads when we when we get to releasing some stuff here so a hog Stone there unfortunate and the another
Quarter fourth end is starting off with a little bit a little bit Ruddy here Monday night we will rehearse they’re playing right along here everybody else is still in the second half yeah that’s a customary of Roger and Conrad they they don’t waste any time they get moving your team gets
Into a rhythm that way it’s a much better scenario to play quicker than slower and they’re experienced enough they don’t have to do a lot of thinking once in a while true and they know each other’s game trying to figure something out yeah most of the time the shots are pretty straightforward Another short one not sure what Conrad called but no he’s got a couple guards up there now but Roger got hammer and one on the Rings here so he’ll try and get another one behind guards here and put himself in the line for a multiple score here draw attempt here from hoe
Feldman weight’s perfect they can keep it running they can keep it running great shot oh he does throw a nice that’s how it’s done right there folks beautiful shot there from Howie very consistent indeed he is Hammer belongs to uh Roger rette here maybe you want to freeze to some
He’s going to try and come through no he’s going to try and take out that red he’s calling for a take out okay oh no freezing okay I heard him yell take out or maybe he said not a takeout no right no he’s looking for a freeze trying to noodle
One through those two yellow ones and come on top of this uh Red Rock in the 12T early call for a sweep oh my goodness so again if you tried to draw that Port I don’t know if you could do it if you hit the Red Rock
Anywhere he’s going to double him out oh now that was that was take out weight not freeze weight so I think there was confusion cuz I heard Conrad yell he was tapping his broom like he was looking for I thought he was calling for a freeze too right but earlier than that
He I heard the word take out so I didn’t know if he said take out or no takeout oh boy or if they changed the call clearly he had take got takeout wait so little bump back here for this stone for Roger pile him up come around this
Way let’s see what this does out here I don’t know that any rocks have been thrown out here in the four ends that we’re playing Just going to make a little contact with it and now they bup it over now and then there was three little cleanup time here now for Conrad now he’s calling for a take out yep Rogers Scott Hammer here sitting three signaling normal please don’t be [Applause] wide or don’t be

Have a curler by the name of Pat Ryan participating in the cob this year Pat has played at a very very high level um born in Winnipeg and uh Canadian Canadian curler he’s um participated in uh very very high competitive uh tournaments over the years 1988 Brier Champion 1989 Brier champion won the
Worlds in 1989 he was a runner up in the Brier he lost to Russ Howard in ’93 and came came right back the following year to beat Russ Howard in the Brier also 1994 World Champ uh in 2002 and 3 he repared in the Brier and if we know
Anything about the Brier to get to that level of competition is an honor in itself so he moved around in Canada a little bit came back from uh Colona BC back to Alberta in 2007 he skipped and won the Canadian senior curling Championship that’s for curl’s over 50
In 2008 Ryan skipped Canada to a world senior curling championship now residing in Burling Ontario and curling uh the bur Burlington Curling Club uh and last night sang with the band he’s also released two CDs old dog new tricks and a little bit of trouble and the udica
Kurling club is very honored to have uh Pat Ryan here and uh has that that kind of a decorated curler participate in our club and an allaround really nice guy and we’re glad to have him here in the cob Pat Ryan thanks Jay so big big end there for team rette
