The Columbus Golf Collectibles Trade Show is one of the highlight events each year for collectors of antique golf memorabilia. In this video, I share a sneak peek at some of the antique golf clubs and equipment I’ll be selling at the show, which is hosted by Gary and Susan Wyckoff and takes place Feb. 16-17, 2024 at the Embassy Suites in Dublin, OH.

All right folks welcome back to the channel this was supposed to be a live stream but it didn’t work out um technology was not my friend today I don’t know what’s going on because I’ve done live streams down in the space before but I just had a bad connection

Speed apparently uh Elmer namo’s friend uh nice enough to let me know by text that uh pretty much nothing I was doing was coming through uh as far as I could tell so apologies for that I’ll try to get that figured out because it would be

A nice way for me to keep in touch with you guys through the channel easier or you know more frequently if I could do live streams whenever I’m working on something so I’ll get that figured out in the meantime though uh we are the uh this is Monday hope you’re having a good

One um and it’s the day after the Super Bowl so I’m a little tired uh we live in a Chief’s house here uh being from the Midwest so we were excited about the results last night but also didn’t get a lot of sleep um but what I wanted to do

Today and the reason I’m doing this here is because I’m getting a bunch of stuff ready to go uh for my first road trip of the year to the Columbus Antique golf trade show uh hosted by Gary and Susan wickoff at the Embassy Suites in Dublin

Ohio February 16 17 so that’s a Friday Saturday uh coming up and it’s the third year I’ve gone to this show and this year um what I’m bringing is a lot of pre 5 Hickory golf clubs um I basically kind of decided that I I want to get out

Of the business of um you know collecting pre- 35 clubs and focus more on the guty pre- 1900 guty era and work on the feathery clubs that I’m I’ve been building and there’s just only so much space and I’m not a big fan of wall hangers even though I’ve got some behind

Uh what I’m going to show you here today um I want these clubs to get back in the hands of people who will use them uh pretty you know a good chunk of the clubs that I’m going to show you here are restored for play and ready to go so

Um I thought I would just kind of run through uh some of the highlights of what I’m bringing and hopefully get you guys excited um to check them out at the show in person uh or if not at the show then these will end up on the website uh

Hicky hacker.com in my web store and again if you are a hacker backer through patreon or YouTube channel membership you get 10% off of anything that you find in the store a few people have already taken advantage of that and I appreciate that um but you you get a

Good deal on on some of this stuff uh you know some of these clubs are sets that are you know $300 uh that’s $30 off so make sure you keep an eye on Hickory hacker.com in the web store to see what’s new um and this whatever I don’t sell here at the show

Coming up uh is going to make it onto the website pretty quick so uh let’s uh start looking at what I have here I’m going to try to remember the good details that I mentioned on the live stream that uh are never going to see the light of day but

Uh that’s how it goes sometimes all right so here one of the ways that I’m going to kind of maximize the space that I have I’ve only got a six foot table because I wanted to keep things as efficient as possible and I’m going to use these racks and just stand them in

Front of the table so I don’t have to use table space to lay these clubs out uh what you’re looking at right here are all restored clubs uh some of which I played myself that you’ve seen in course Vlogs so for instance um about a year

Ago I was using this guy on a pretty regular basis this is a Tom Morris mashy and um I like this club uh but again when I’m playing golf these days I’m pretty much just using guty clubs uh in fact at the Winter Park Hickory classic

Last month in Winter Park uh Florida I used a turn of the sentury gutty set what I call kind of my bounding Billy Set uh which would have been clubs that dated around the time that the hasal ball came out so 1898 to 1904 and I used

A Callaway super softball had no issues with distance loss or anything like that using guty clubs and I just enjoy using the guty clubs better than my pre- 35s so that Tom Morris uh is just sitting around now and and I’m not using it anymore so it’s going to be up for sale

Uh another club we’ve got here is a Tom Stewart it’s kind of a head shape and it’s got a decent Siz sole on the bottom line faed and um this one is 39° D5 swing weight 37 12 in Long play length so uh what I think pretty fine

Club here um I used it at uh I believe it was Keeny Park if you watched that course Vlog and um again just clubs that I don’t really they’re they’re great clubs I just don’t play them um got another Tom Stewart here it’s a diamond back um yeah just a standard Tom Stewart

Name there dot face I believe that one is 25 degre D2 or D5 rather um got a Walter hag and mashy Niblick here we’ve got a Tom Stewart cleek that’s 18 degrees so if you want to try to replicate the driving iron that I’ve been using in my pre- 35 set that would

Be a good club to use we’ve got a concave face uh Spalding crowflight there that’s 44° I believe yeah 44° d0 um and you know just to give you an idea of the prices I’m asking uh this one this uh crowflight concave face 60 bucks the cleck the Stuart cleek 70 bucks

Hagen mashi Niblick 60 these are all show prices too they might go up a little bit when I uh put them on the website but um uh I like to give the people in person a bit of a discount um versus finding them on the website um here’s an interesting Club over here

That I actually have not played with but it’s perfectly suitable for Play It’s been reset uh this is a Maxwell um Gibson but uh it’s also Cosby patent so it’s got a lot going on from a collectibility perspective the Cosby Mark here um and then the hand holding

Two arrows you don’t see that very often and um the flange makes this a desirable play Club it’s got good play weight it’s d0 35 degrees 37 inch play length um and also it’s got some aspects of The Cosby patent still here the braided whipping and then when you take a look

At the butt end of the shaft you can see the bamboo slats around the Hickory core so interesting Club here you know and you know the the um the Cosby’s like the really collectible Cosby’s often have a um a grip that has basically a h stitched backing to it

Because it didn’t this one didn’t have that I felt like it was a good way to turn this into a playable Club um because its collectibility is diminished by the fact it doesn’t have that grip so that that explains that um yeah and then just some other clubs here that all have

Pretty good weight um scan over here a couple Woods this is a d Anderson and Suns uh it’s a brassy but it’s got a spoon Loft to it so it’s 18° C8 42 in uh I’m asking 110 for that I will say too that you know the prices

Are kind of tough to figure out um I try to keep them you know uh easy affordable for people to pick up if if it’s a club they really want uh while also keeping in mind what I’ve got into the club um but I’ll fluctuate these prices

Sometimes when I get to the show just based on uh what people are are selling other clubs for that are similar um you know and and if somebody’s interested and they just can’t make it happen at the price I got I’m happy to negotiate so that’s basically a starting point in

A lot of cases um but some of these clubs you know I’m I’m I’m going to stick pretty close to what I’ve got on them because like I said you know I think my prices are pretty competitive to start with um let’s just look over here here’s a crowflight fancy

Face um this is a cool Club I’ve had a few different times now and both times they’ve been really good um specs or had good specs this one’s 11° d0 43in play length put a new grip on it um and it’s ready to play again uh I sold the first

One I had pretty much as soon as I got it so it’s it’s a popular Club whenever I put it out on the table and then I’ve got a newer replica here this is a tadmore um basically his uh version of The Mills uh kind of like a hybrid

Um I I wouldn’t say it yeah basically like a the the Hickory version of the hybrid uh this one’s 20° D4 and if you watched the course Vlog a while ago now it’s probably two years ago where I used that club uh you know why I’m selling it so um

Move over here now uh the other part of getting rid of a lot of the extra pre- 35 clubs is that I’ve collected bags uh that I think have potential to be users and um what I mean by that is when you come across these bags a lot of times the components that

Need to be strong for using them or for holding weight are you know deteriorating they’re blown apart uh specifically this ring up here um on on the you know that the strap attaches to at the Top If you can see that there’s a metal part underneath that leather there

And then this is the other part you often find deteriorated uh this one’s got just a little bit of a crack going but it seems strong and the stitching around this part is good even though the stitching on this is falling apart um so bottom line is I think this has

Potential to be um you know a short set carrier if you want to use it that way and if not it’s still a pretty cool looking bag just to have you know clubs in for display and also comes with this wasn’t part of the uh original setup but comes with this uh

Four head cover setup so yeah um selling that bag I’m also selling this bag over here kind of a classic stove pipe bag it’s not structured um but uh again solid construction and it’s holding up well in the areas where there’s it needs to be weight bearing um so this one I would

Say you could definitely play with I added this strap this wasn’t part of the original bag um and then this bag over here too this is kind of an interesting one it’s got a stick that kind of keeps the whole back end rigid and opens up the mouth of it a

Little bit and it’s canvas um you know looks like it’s still capable of carrying a short set I’m bringing um I think I’ve got four longer shafts in here I’m going to bring these with in case anybody’s looking for uh shaft Replacements um so there’s that um let’s kind of scan on

The look at the floor here because a lot of a lot of the what I’m going to bring and set up on the table are these heads uh these are all what I consider to be playable heads heads if you can see it in the busyness of my rug um over here

You’ll see we’ve got several stewards um this is kind of the Scottish area so I’ve got Stewarts Nicholls Gibsons um I think there’s a James gorley in there and like I said all those heads to me um have good play weight of like mid seas and up so if you

Want to try to build um you know a set from scratch there you go you got a good start these are you know decent heads too line faed stewards here this is a mashy that’s 38° and and I’ve got the ounces and grams there um so if you’re interested in figuring

Out well it’s kind of hard to say what the swing weight would be until you put a shaft in it but basic rule of thumb here is if you put the proper length shaft for the Loft this is going to be a playable swing weight can’t tell you exactly what

That would be until you put a a shaft in it but based on my experimentation with swing weights and shafts I can tell you that there’s a you know the ballpark swing weight of this club will be playable so um that’s to say you know it’s not going to be like subc swing

Weight you know it’ll be in the C’s or the D’s um mostly like most likely in the C’s but you can adjust that based on the length of shaft you put in or the the thickness of the grip you put on it um and a lot of guys end up like

Uh clubs that are a little bit lighter than I prefer which is why a lot of these heads ended up in this bag um you know if if some of these were C7 and the shaft was good and I could put it in a heavier head I took the shaft out of the

Head and then just kind of set the head aside and that’s why I’ve got a big bag of them so I’m selling those there are Scottish ones here these are the Americans This is a bag full of crow flights if you’re looking for any specific uh head shapes or Lofts I’ll

Have those there um um I’m also bringing some of the uh I believe these came from the McGregor Factory when the McGregor Factory closed and uh I’ll have these available for people if they want to try to you know try their hand at a um building their own brassier building

Well they’re all going to be drivers but um you could add a sole plate to that if you wanted uh so that’s uh basically projects you know I kind of look at it as if I was going to be at this show as a customer what kind of what I’d be

Looking for and I’d be looking for projects because it’s winter time and you know it’s it’s there’s still probably month and a half or two months before most of the country is going to be able to get back to playing golf and it’s a perfect time to get in

The shop and start messing around building some sets uh you know pick up some clubs or heads for other people you know if you’ve got shafts laying around you know I’m hoping that they’ll they’ll see the opportunity here to build some affordable clubs um from scratch uh

Speaking of that over here I’ve got a bag of unrestored clubs that I’m just selling basically as is um and that doesn’t mean they’re in bad condition it’s just they have not been restored in any way and uh would need to be in order to be played with I would think uh the

Exception to that would be these two left-handed brassies um these are cens really nice condition uh they got the wrong period whipping on them so that would need to be changed if you wanted it to be accurate but uh you probably want to put um a tack your grip on there

As well because that’s the original grip um but uh 9° and 14° are what those two brassies are so you could buy them as a set or if you just need one um I’m selling them each $60 a piece or both for $100 so that’s the deal there uh

This is a left-handed flanged mashy so that’s kind of a rare Club to find this was a custom job I think that somebody did tried to make their own deep Groove uh mashy Nick no other markings on it except for this R what else do we have here I’ve got

Some uh unidentified smooth face clubs here that are a little bit lighter than I like but the gaps between them are just right to build a set around so we’ got a 42 degree Club 32 Degree club and a 23° club uh grips are original they need to be reset everything needs to

Happen with these to to play with but again um I’m selling these three clubs for $150 uh which I think is a good start uh toward having a guty set I got a Stewart here you might remember the video that I did talking about the different markings

On steuarts and I use this club as uh kind of the basis for that uh that’s in here um what else do we have here here’s some um Stewarts that are actually playable right well they’re not playable right now I would recommend you reset the heads on these but the uh swing

Weights are nice we got 52° Niblick here uh 27° uh two iron it’s got an interesting head shape to it it’s kind of got a concentric thing going on right there behind the sweet spot and then a um four iron it’s 38 degrees C6 so those

Stewards would be playable if you uh put them in or got them in playing shape uh let’s go over here last thing I want to show you is this huge tub of original grips that I’m bringing um a lot of the guys that go to the golf Heritage Society shows are

Collectors and if they got a tattered grip they often try to find something that’s period uh just to make the club look like you know it did back in the day look a little bit nicer for display so I’m selling these for $5 a piece and

I’m hoping that they’ll find find a home uh I save everything when I take them off a club because you never know when you might want to use it or repurpose it so I’ve got a ton of these grips there’s a hundred of them in this box and I’ve

Got more than that even so yeah I think that’s that looks like it’s about it but that’s plenty and we’ll see if I can fit all this on a six- foot table um hopefully you know the room trading is the other fun part of going to this

Event and uh that starts Thursday night so I’ll be getting into town probably about 8:30 or so Thursday evening uh room trading will already be going on but hopefully I’ll be able to get um some stuff set up in the room for people uh to lighten my load that I have to

Take down to the floor um but anyway if um you’re in the Dublin Ohio area this upcoming Friday and Saturday stop by my uh table say hello I’ve already got plans to meet with a few people that will be there and uh again if you’re a

Hacker backer and you show up um you get 10% off whether you are online or in person uh and for everyone else who can’t make it to the show all this stuff is going to make it onto the website uh very soon so keep tabs on that sorry

Again that the live stream didn’t work out um you know I have to see what uh what I did what I was able to record of that and see if there were any questions that I can try to answer uh after the fact um but I’ll try to figure out how

To get that going again uh because I really do enjoy doing the live streams assuming that they actually uh get out to everybody and everyone can hear everything so uh with that I’m going to sign off and uh hope you’re all doing well and we’ll talk to you soon take Care
