Let’s start with Newcastle as Eddie how has been speaking to the media this morning ahead of tomorrow’s Saturday Night Football at Nottingham Forest we’ve got Keith Downey who was at that news conference and joins us live now a very good morning to you Keith first things first attacking options for the

Weekend where are we at yeah hi Haley um it was the question on everyone’s lips this morning due to the the injury last week in that 44 draw against slutting town to Anthony Gordon he was pictured after the match leaving in a in a protective Boot and I think

Probably the last thing Eddie how wanted to see when he just got Harvey Barnes back from injury that seems to have been the case for Newcastle all season long one one in and one out when it comes to injuries and of course Gordon has been

One of the the key players so far this this season 15 goal involvements and until this stage had only missed one match and that was due to suspension it felt like he was the one player who had avoided injury so questions to Eddie how this morning on on Anthony Gordon also

On Alexander isach who missed the looen game at the weekend as well and Callum Wilson who came off the bench so it’s been as I say it’s been a difficult season for Newcastle with the number of injuries uh that they’ve had and this is what Eddie how had to say on those three

Players this morning he hasn’t trained this week we don’t think the injury is serious um we’re very hopeful he can be back sooner rather than later do you have a an idea when he might be able to train again if not play no not not at this moment slightly

Unclear and he didn’t have Alexander ISAC in the the draw with Luton um what are the chances of him being available this weekend no Alex won’t make this game um we hope he won’t be too far away um for the for the following games but he doesn’t have a fixed return date yet

But he’s making good progress the injury isn’t um as serious as first fi Eddie with isack and and Gordon both missing as as Callum Wilson ready ready to come in and start he’s trained well this week we’ve been really pleased with him um I thought he did well last week in a 45

Minute Cameo um prior to that game he hadn’t really trained a great deal with the team so he was again thrust back into action really but looks good um getting his sharpness back and he’s had a good week in front of goal so yeah I’d say he

Is what about Dan burn he received quite a bit of criticism for his performance against Lon last weekend Eddie has been very loyal to him has any but what what did he have to say about about Burn yeah Haley the the pace of chido OGB for Len Town last week got the

Better of of Dan bur for a couple of the luten Town goals and it led to the the Newcastle fans chanting the name of Tino lento they wanted him to come on as a substitute in place of Dan burn look a lot of questions were directed to Eddy

How about the defender this morning because he has of course come in for some criticism off the back of that display but Eddie how quick to point out that the week before that or a few days before that against Aston Villa away in the league burn had been the the man of

The match and he he went as far to say that he’s been one of the best signings in his managerial career he said he’s been better than he could have ever envisaged when he signed him from Brighton for 13 million two years ago and he was quick to defend the 6′ 7 in

Defender this is what he had to say has been such a big player for us in in loads of different ways and I tried to say that after the game he’s pivotal to how we we play really in lots of different ways without giving too many

Um tactical uh things away um that’s why he was such a big miss when we when we lost him through injury um he’s also a huge leader of the group a very big presence but obviously physically but also vocally and that leadership can’t be underestimated where where is he and

Where would you rank him in terms of the the the best signings that you’ve made is he is he one of your best yeah I think he has to be without me sitting there ranking them which would be an absolute waste of time um yeah he has to be right up there

Because in that as you say you have to put yourself you can’t look at yourself when you’re in this moment now you have to take yourself back to where we were that was a very difficult window it was a very difficult um Market to sign players in um attracting players to come

To us was incredibly tough so we only wanted to sign players actually wanted to come Dan was one of those players that was desperate to play for Newcastle and um he’s never lost that love and enthusiasm for the club he’s still absolutely Newcastle through and through very interesting to get manager thoughts

On a Hot Topic at the moment discussed over the last 24 hours the potential addition of blue cards Keith in football did you ask how about that H yeah he was asked a couple of times about that this morning remember Eddie is a manager who is not a fan of v

And feels that his team have been on the receiving end of a couple of wrong V decisions this season so I I wasn’t expecting him to be a fan of these IAB proposals that would see the introduction of a a blue card for descent and and cynical fouls and uh he

Was true to his word this is what he had to say yeah I’m not a big fan to be honest I think that’s what yellow cards are for uh I think the the current syst system works well it’s just got to be applied right um I think adding a blue card

Would just add more confusion just in my opinion so I’m I’m against it it will change it a lot but again not not for me in a good way because I think it will make it very bitty very more stop start I feel for the players who have to come on go off

For 10 minutes and then refind the rhythm of a Premier League game after 10 minutes out I’m just not sure it works personally so that was Eddie how this morning back in for Jason Tindle who of course stepped in last week when how was Ill Newcastle will travel to Nottingham

Forest tomorrow a match you can see live on Sky Sports with a a 530 kickoff in Newcastle we’ll be looking to avenge that defeat to nunoa spirito Santos team on boxing day when they came to St james’ Park and of course ran away with a 31 Victory Newcastle of course looking

To try and do a bit better than he against luten Town last week in that 4-4 draw where results at this moment in time with regards to what Newcastle are trying to do have been very up and down and Eddie how just desperate for some consistency Keith thank you very much indeed

  1. As someone who has already said on another social platform, "I'm all for the introduction of blue cards, but only if they are accompanied by the eiffel 65 classic. Can you imagine oh the ref is reaching for his pocket… am blue da ba de da ba da" 😂

  2. Ovcourse he’s going to say he’s been one of his best signings and such a big player he’s not going to admit he’s been wrong playing him

  3. Barnes look rejuvenated when he played other day nice to have him back . Think toon win . No wood either thank fk

  4. We still got that Gambian fella and the Aussie to come back from loan next season. At least we'll have some extra bodies to fill in.

  5. Big Miss these two, but I think we have more than enough fire power to make up for it! The question is though, will Newcastle defense be better than the Luton game!?

  6. When you look at isak, he looks like a stick insect
No muscle or strength, look at the size of him ,least get some build on for strength, he loses the ball to players half his size, because he's weak ,but he's a quality player just needs to bulk up a bit not lose speed obviously
