Day is brought to you by Barton Community College explore your future and get started now visit goart and.com okay sports day in three two one they got a really good team they may not be quite as deep as they have been in the past but they’re starting five really

Super talented obviously Jay hman is one of the best coaches in the league ever you know it’s a tough place to play we can get more separation if we can go down there and get a road win at Coffeyville which is going to be tough but we’re half a game above Butler for

Third and still just a game behind Dodge so we got some big game coming up that’s good to hear I always try and keep my body language positive and good and just let everyone know that I’m in control out there and not get too sped up or

Slowed down or let the rafts affect how um yes take yes I did see him smile the other day okay it’s never a full one it’s always a little half smile but it’s something they’re just the kids that come show up every day working hard for each other you know I think that’s

Something you can’t ever over look as a coach and it’s a hard thing to force you know you can’t make them all get along or make them all be friends but these girls just truly care about each other it’s been a lot of fun um he’s a big

Reason why I decided to come back um just wanting to be able to try to put him in a decent position and uh be able to enjoy being around him but he’s been super easy to coach I thought we might butt heads a little bit because he can

Be a little bit stubborn I can be a little bit stubborn fortunately we only got one but also fortunately that we got one as well you know I wouldn’t really sure what the expectations were looking at the brackets I thought we’d kind of be anywhere from zero to three or four

Got one in DJ is from Junction City his second year at the Collegiate level I think a better approach would be just to take it um one game at a time and just really try to do think of it as you know um he was trying to win this game trying

To go one and0 I feel like it’s a better mindset a more attainable mindset Here Comes Clark how will she go for history there is and good afternoon welcome to sports day on 1590 kvgb 9955 FM we’ve navigated another week it’s Friday all you boys heading on the road tonight I’ll be watching

Them all over the place tonight in the bunker I was about to ask you’re gonna gonna get out but with the the weather kind of makes me want to stay in today oh I can watch all the games it’s just it’s just awesome welcome to the Friday show Steve Webster with you Mike

Corson Aaron Clark and Mike hesher sorry I was drying my guys I’m you look at Corson sometimes you can get him caught in some some deep thought I saw I caught a CAU a good one the other day at the the liberal game it was I think or was it homecoming got got

A good little picture of coron he was admiring the band yeah yep on the show today Barton men’s basketball coach Jeremy Colmes they head to Coffeeville tomorrow to take on the red Ravens we’ll talk to him about that trip sunflower Sports Solutions Conor nicolon a lot of wrestling chat on the

Program today we’ll talk Barton women’s basketball with head coach Allan Clark as the Lady Cougars have a just keep going on here they got five games left trying to get that number two seed in the region six tournament on the women’s side and the Friday sports headlines and

Of course the sounds the past 2 24 hours and the afor mention Jeremy combes say the squad will have to be ready for that Coffeeville team that’s a weird year for Coffeeville 6 and 12 in League they are 10 and 14 overall not a lot of depth but

Their starting five is pretty good so they play at Coffeeville tomorrow we’ll talk to coach Colmes about that and Allan Clark talking about getting maybe that second spot right now Lady Cougars 14-5 in League Play they’re 19- six overall they are a half game behind Dodge City for second and Butler right

Behind them a half game back for fourth Coffeeville currently 16-8 overall they are 11 and7 in the jhawk women standing so Cole rif will be down there and Allan Clark knows it won’t be easy but the opportunity is there for the Lady Cougars Ian primer on sports day yesterday talking about liberal

Broadcaster Brock kaan’s comments when I ask him about what do you think about Ian primer he didn’t mentioned his basketball skills he said I just like the way he presents himself on the floor he’s not a knucklehead you know if you go up I’m sorry I was a knucklehead if

I’d have been able to dunk the ball like that I’d have probably had like three or four technical fouls you know I mean they’d been standing over the opponents and how many hanging on the rim oh well cuz I was going to say three or four just from taunting after the dunk

Probably another one or two just for getting a good strong pull down on you do a chin up yeah exactly cuz in those days we didn’t have break way Rim so that was that was tougher Bend at your own risk well you might break the backboard yeah that

Legend that wouldn’t be good we didn’t have any extra ones down at Sky so that’s why you weren’t a dunker then that that explains it you didn’t want to risk the backboard being being broken in Sky it wasn’t that at all it was called fat Calves if you have fat calves you

Cannot jump okay you’ve got to have narrow ankles and skinny Calves if you’re going to be quick I’m going to I’m going to tell people that’s why I can’t SES spray that anytime she gets a girl try to guard her in man-to-man defense and she has thick ankles take

Her off the dribble because she’s not quick it’s just go to the game tonight and watch the ankles and calves and see who’s quick and who’s not I was thinking what Brock kappan said the other day too I don’t even know if you see Ian talk at

All during a game so you know a lot of the especially the point guards they handle the ball very well and get a little chatty Ian is all business so it’s kind of it’s just like what of my am I going to get the the next break

When am I going to get the next break or it’s just going up for a rebound it’s strong and fast I saw one the other night it was a slam dunk from Ian into a timeout by liberal and uh he he was yelling after that one because it’s one

Of those moments where it’s like all right we got to take a timeout to cool off the well you now you show some excitement not against not like that but he doesn’t get to John but just one of the more like a more uh explosive display of just any emotion from Ian you

Could tell he was he was going in that game a little bit uh Dax mitton you know what he reminds me of that Hoon had a had a guard on some pretty good teams a few years ago Avery Brewer his his expression never changed and he just you know and you

Wouldn’t know what was going on but he was the big I mean he was oh yeah he he especially in practice I love watching Avery because it was like you never knew but he was talking trash the whole time out there especially his teammates probably not in

The games at all so that brings us to Dax mitt we’re not talking about that Dax with a classic comment because I ask him if Parker dicks ever Smiles it was he said yes uh yeah I I saw him once the other day Parker dicks man he just missed her business out on

The basketball court four of six from three-point line on Tuesday he’s been one uh him and Carter combms have both shown an act for just heating up in games at times and when you’ve got Carter or rather when you have Parker hitting four Ian hitting two and then

Also just the obvious inside game that they have I believe madx spray had 12 points a lot from that mid-range game when the Panthers are scoring at all three levels like that I don’t know what you’re supposed to do to stop them but I guess neither do a lot of the teams

They’re playing because when the panther offense is rolling it’s a buzz saw Parker dicks now 47% from three over his last five games and Dax Mitten is a guy I love looking at the stat sheets after the after the game because they have that plus

Minus rarely do you you see when he’s on the floor that he’s got a minus that with the uh you know what the score is while you’re on the floor you know if you’re always out there and the team loses like seven points when you’re out on the floor that probably will depend

On the number of minutes you’re going to play but good things happen when Dax mitton’s out on the floor so they take on Dodge City tonight that’ll be the second game Lady Panthers play first head coach Cindy Beck talking about what makes this group so special

Lady Panthers 13 and five they get along well that’s good 13 and five and they play first tonight 545 on B 1043 The point it’s just one of those kind of uh just the dynamic on the team you could kind of tell from when we had Julian

Rymer and Alysa McCully in here earlier this week uh they talked about some of the fun things they get do on the bench and some of the different celebrations they have they have individual celebrations for different people on the team even like not even just like oh someone made a post basket will

Celebrate with a post celebrate but individual girls who do things they have separate cheers a lot of fun on that lady Panther sideline and like coach Beck said when you have girls who are actually vested in their teammates succeeding and doing well that does a lot for putting your team in successful

Positions yeah they go down you know I mean Kinsey goes in for a layup the other four get down behind each other on the Baseline and act like they’re all rowing the same boat they haven’t busted that one that’d be a good celebration well I was by the one we busted that

When I was on the end of end of the bench I would lift up uh Payton mler and he would act like a basketball hoop and then someone else would come and dunk uh uh the ball a ball through through the even though we didn’t have anyone who

Could dunk on our team imagine if Ian primer had us oh man the sidelines so you’re kind of the prop guy you know the big guy a lot of you pick things up you’d be a pillar because we also had one recreating the uh like the the famous Renaissance painting I can’t it’s

Adam and uh God like touching fingers we recreated that one a couple times and I would hold up Payton mler his nudely appendage yeah I well I it’s it’s a famous Renaissance painting where they’re like touching fingers like I don’t I think it’s just the hand of God there’s it’s something

But we we would recreate that picture and I’d hold up Payton in that as well so anytime anything needed held or anyone it was it was because I mean I’m only getting in the game to foul it’s not like I’m getting a lot of minutes there on the end of the bench they

Called him The Carrot Top of the panther sideline well I would I we did get noticed we did get noticed from time to time they’d be like man you your coach kind of lets you guys go crazy on the the bench there doesn’t he so

Yeah well it depends on how far down the bench you are I mean the further down you probably doesn’t catch out of the corner of his eyes when you’re far away from coach baton he can’t see what’s going on down there okay other there’s just one other game in the whack tonight

And that will be Hayes who do they play tonight oh they play have Garden City tonight both the Hayes boys and girls probably a chance to let’s see the boy they can’t clinch tonight but they’ve got a couple games next week but uh Garden City probably’s not going to offer too much

Resistance especially on the girls side so uh we’ll talk a little bit about the West rankings Great Bend did you ever check to see who Hutch has left by any chance okay because Great Bend right now 13 and five the boys are number four uh the girls are just locked in the top

Four teams and 5A girls uh have a pretty good lead out there right now Michael Ryan has uh talked with uh what’s your name Mike Corson yesterday sorry I I wasn’t doing that on purpose trust me you you’ll find out in a few years uh Michael Ry on coaching his

Brother uh pton that’s pretty cool you don’t see that very much in high school especially kind of tells you how young Michael is yes it does but yeah I got to I got to watch all the Ryan grow up and it’s makes sense he’s a coach his sister Jana is a

Coach at what did he Sterling she coaches tennis little Devin is coaching Middle School basketball at Victoria who knows what Emily will do and then Payton’s coming up I don’t know if this because that usually wouldn’t work you know I mean he had a line that both of them can

Be hard-headed which it’s well yeah hard to imagine pton being hard-headed just a little bit I know of him could you coach your brother uh no but my brother actually helped uh was like an assistant High School coach for one of my youth football teams he helped uh shut up or

No because he uh he was an offensive line assistant and so he would come down and uh help me learn how to actually block a little bit and uh if I if I did get too mouthy I was wearing pads and he wasn’t and so he would just pop me in

The chest and be like you’re in pads what what do you mean there’s nothing nothing you can do but that works pretty well so Central Plains heading into Regional plates so they start regionals next week on Thursday correct for 1A it’s usually a week earlier because they

Got the EXT yeah but there some there we’ll have some games on tu Tuesday of next week so then they just play in and then they’ll take off until the following week for semi-finals and finals at substate okay Hunter Dickinson that was his comment on ask if they had

To win out to win the league Crown he said you know probably the better approach would be let’s just win one game Who K’s in a I’m not saying they’re in a freeall yet but they need to get going here a little bit thank thankfully they’ve had

All week off well since Monday day when they played then they’ll get all next week off get rested up a little bit mcculler looks like he’s going to play tomorrow at OU that’s good news for Kansas that’s a 3:00 tip tomorrow on ESPN Kate they host TCU tomorrow an

Early start on ESPNU as they take on TCU Nathan Brockman on the show yesterday uh takes one to Nationals with CJ Newman excited to see what Nathan’s going to do with that program and remember we’ve got three guests on today Corson the call on NBC Caitlyn Clark becomes the NCAA Women’s career scoring

Leader with a long three-pointer that hit nothing but the bottom of the net I would just note it was 49 points two minutes left in the game coach poser in front of 15,000 people that paid 400 bucks a ticket to watch could have seen something real special but no for real

The the part that sticks out to me she’s over a th000 career assists now none of the other top four scores even got over 600 so she’s not only scoring at a high clip she’s very unselfish and they’re actually fantastic passes almost more fun to watch her past and shoots long

Threes because she’s dropping dimes overheads leading players in motion going in between people okay I yeah it’s really cool it’s just fun to watch we haven’t had one of those in a while at the regional wrestling going on right now and and state swimming and we’ve got an update for the

Panthers which really incredible yeah so Casey Kennedy didn’t swim his favorite 100 butterfly All Season saved it until wack at home swam it got the state qualifying time in 59 which is I think was one of the bottom five seeds cut 1.74 seconds off at state so now he made

The final eight by 0.12 seconds nice that’s hard you don’t you you don’t see that do the percent there it’s a and I know she said coach Carper said he swam way better than that last year and it’s been an injury wasn’t even sure if he

Was going to swim at State because of the injury and so to go in and just demolish your best Time of the Season how much did you shave off 1.74 on 59 that’s insane yeah shaving almost two seconds like over one and a half seconds handedly that’s ridiculous he went in

With a 59 Splat seed time and you saw a lot of 57 58s that did not make the finals and here’s this kid that swam a 59 making the finals I love the 50 free who wins you you never know I mean because everybody’s running like what what

Swimming like 22 fivs and stuff like that and and then they all hit the wall at the same time yeah how did they do that before the mat you got you got you got to get a little a little bell and whoever dings it first maybe well how would you would

You have the ding judges to figure out which ding each one’s a different well he beat me by two seconds but he was slow he couldn’t find the pull stick but he I was going to say he his uh his little his Mallet to strike the Bell was

Lost you got to keep it between I don’t know yeah that’s a good point I mean how I have no idea had electric current through it in the first swimmer that shot backwards right away after hitting an electrified pad at the end of the pool think how you think how hard it was

Like just doing it in actual like land races then you throw water in there and just makes it even murkier you go to some of those track meets that are hand timed in the short races it’s like well I have a faster time but your kid obviously came in first let’s

Switch why they that’s why they came up with what they have now okay uh Conor Nichols coming up later I am going to ask him in his exhaustive research if there has been a girls wrestler that has won a state championship now Daisy’s got

To go out and win it so but a state champion wrestler who has also been homecoming queen in the same season see and Pratt has a had a contender but they went the correct way and gave it to a special education student instead of kimara Thompson because she would have

Been a heavy Contender but that’s the only one I’ve seen I don’t get out that much all right well get with Connor coming up we going to talk Barton basketball Jeremy combes up next here on sports day then Conor nickel also Allan Clark on the program talk Barton lady

Why Mike hher and myself walk upright no argument there no argument there he’s the fixer of old folks too so uh Jeremy combs in with us right now and here we go it’s always crazy because we and more so probably with Hesh and Aaron and the guy and Cole the guys are doing

The games you’re coaching them all the time I haven’t been doing that this year but you get into the routine you know Saturday Wednesday Saturday Wednesday and then all of a sudden you’re looking and here we are down the home stretch in February it’s crazy yeah I was looking at the high school

Schedule you know Carter schedule there and just realized it’s almost it’s almost over and then you know we’re kind of looking at ours and you know we’re down the stretch too so it it goes by so fast and and you know those days in between are they seem like they take

Forever you know but uh I’m I’m I told myself this morning I’m going to try to just enjoy those days and enjoy this ride a little bit because uh you know it’ll be gone before we know it there’s a couple questions I wanted to ask you

And before we get into the games because I don’t know as as when I was doing as a play-by-play guy for football I always made sure I knew how many timeouts were left in basketball nah so as an a play-by-play announcer I value I valued timeouts in football more than I did basketball

Yeah how do you value timeouts in basketball because I don’t know I’ve always been one I always you know timeouts are like Mulligans and golf you know hey if the boat’s sinking early man you just take them you know you don’t because you don’t need four timeouts

Left if you’re getting blown out and it’s a little different with us now with the media timeouts you know we getting we’re getting the media timeouts and you know we got our quick 30 second timeouts that we can use and we’ve got the one in

The first half that it’s kind of a use it or lose it so we’ve we’ve used it a few times where people are probably like why is he calling a timeout you know at this point but we’re going to lose it anyway and and so you know it might be a

Situation where uh you know we call timeout with 30 seconds left and we’re on defense and we want to make sure we’re set up and you know let’s get this last stop before the half or things like that but um yeah you know there was one

Game that we played and I can’t for the life of me remember where we were at um but we had no timeouts left I used too many of them um and so that was kind of a weird situation but then we’ve also had the ones where you know we didn’t we

Didn’t use one and so um we do pay attention to that and and we want them late just especially if we need them um you know so it is something we pay close attention to so and you know you get into the I mean you talk about situations

Sometimes I guess it would depend on how good your you know you want to call timeout all right listen guys explain the situation to them it’s kind of nice having a little bit more veteran team we don’t you know they know that too so right and there’s been some times where

We’ve kind of let teams you know make a little run and when we get on that run we we’ll call that time out and just you know sit them down and regroup a little bit and say Hey you know let’s not let this happen you know we got to get that

Stop and and then we got to go back and get some buckets and you know we we talk about three stops in a row a lot you know we want to get three stops and then go get go get some buckets and uh you know so when when teams go on runs we’ll

We’ll use it we’ll burn a timeout if we need to I still remember dick Vel I he needs a timeout he needs a timeout so how do you use your timeouts to stop momentum or you know maybe early in the game it just you know it depends on the

Game um because you know if you especially you’re on the road or you at home if you’re on the road sometimes I don’t like call that time out when people are on a run cuz then you know the crowd gets going and it’s not whatever so I’ll wait until we we score

A bucket um that way you know the crowd doesn’t get into it and the players don’t get all hype and you know that type of stuff so so we we just kind of use them just just depending on the game okay the other question I had revolved around the old uh j-hawk shootout

Because you going to Coffeeville this weekend I guess my memories of it is when you were in the auxiliary gym and you doing play byplay up in that little Crows Nest and the heater would come on and that thing would inflate and you couldn’t see the scoreboard yeah so

You’re hoping that you know that that wouldn’t inflate do you miss the shootout I do I wish we could do it you know I wish I wish there was an opportunity for us to you know get everybody Under One Roof and and uh get all those coaches in there I think it it

Would really help with recruiting and and we talked about it I can’t remember the last time we talked about it but it’s been a little bit um because we have some facilities that could host that you know not NE not just um you know Coffeeville um you you know it used

To be back in the day I think when I played we were out at Garden City yeah um and so they hosted at one time but we’ve got some places that are essentially located that have some nice auxiliary gyms that we could definitely do it and it would be really good now

The problem is is you know who’s going to give up that you know that home game or that you know so just the way we’re doing conference now because it used to be East and West you know so I don’t see us ever going back to East and West that

Was a cool part about it because you got to see the teams on the East right you know play them yep so yeah it’s um you know I don’t know I don’t know if we’ll ever get to that but it I do I sure do

Miss it and Chris back then a lot of teams would have five or six JV teams on their schedule so that was a good one it kind of helped yeah helped out to see where your team was at a little bit as well I guess with the league schedule we

Have now we have a pretty good idea right okay for sure Jeremy Colmes with his head coach of the Barton cougars up to number two in the country right now 18 and one 24 and one I told Cole this on Tuesday that the consistency of this year’s team

I mean you roll off you know you go 24 and one there’s some near misses in there you know ones where maybe you have to battle back from Seven down and and get some close wins and man this role you’ve been on you’ve just been taking

Teams apart and the every night you know yeah it’s I think it’s our maturity you know um it’s the locker room guys like Mose and Cooper and Miles um Le you know as a transfer coming in wasn’t here last year obviously but uh his really you

Know had a had a big role and a big impact on this team and you know they’re just they’re they’re locked in um they talk about standing on business and and being locked in and different things like that and and so you know they’re kind of living up to that I think early

In the year especially in our jamere we T talked to pretty good game but we didn’t really back it up and and and so that’s been an emphasis of ours if we’re going to talk it we need to back it up and and those guys have been you know

That’s kind of their motivation to to to be ready every game you know because um you know there there’s going to be games where we’re not making shots and and so that’s why we you know we emphasize the defense and all that kind of stuff but

As long as as long as they’re locked in I feel pretty good about us I know you coaches think about everything right so you’re just going over things you ever worry about okay gosh we haven’t had a stiner in a while yeah you 100% you know it’s it’s somebody had said something to

Me you know hey well you know usually it’s about three losses wins this thing you know and which you know so what I do is I reverse ology I I kind of take offense to that well that’s fine we we’ll we’re going to go out and prove

That it’s we can do it in less uh you know so I did share that with the team so we just find a little motivational things to try to make sure we’re we’re staying locked in like I said and and uh you know and then hopefully we don’t

Stub our to here we go okay go to Coffeeville it’s just weird for me I just look down and where’s coffe there’s six and 12 in League Play I know you comment to Cole After the game on Wednesday now you know they just don’t have have as much depth as they have had

In the past but take it on take it on down in Coffeeville yeah so at Christmas they lost a couple guys that were key guys to them um and then they lost a big kid to I think an injury and and so they their depth isn’t quite as good but

They’ve got two guys that come off two or three guys come off the bench they’re playing pretty well for him too as well but they’re starting five is super talented and uh they’ve got one two of the top uh 10 scorers in a conference they’re really scoring to basketball and

Of course you know anytime you’ve got a legendary coach like Jay on the sideline they’re always to be ready to play so um you know our guys will have to be locked in I I wanted to look at it before I came in here but I don’t know the last

Time um somebody told me six years it’s been six years since since Barton won down there I’m not 100% sure if that’s accurate um I know that I think I think the good there was a really good team Fletch had that went to the National Tournament I think they might have even

Lost down there um you know so it’s just a tough place to play and um you know if you’re not ready to go and if you’re not willing to handle the environment of the football guys on the sideline line and and all the red uh you know sweaters in

The stands then then it’s going to be a long night how is Jay herkelman continued that success over so long you know I think when it when you talk about success like that over a long period of time it comes down to you know your your Administration your school uh your

Support um you know I think we we had our runs at at Neosho but it was going to be really hard to sustain it over over the years um and I think he’s got you know great support uh great backing and you know people that want to see

Success and that’s you know definitely something we’ve seen here I mean Barton is definitely a blue blood when it comes to basketball and and sports and and um you know obviously you look at our crowds that we’ve had I mean it’s tremendous and you you don’t you don’t win consistently without those things

Favorite memory of Coffeeville was during the shootout because it it was a little bit warm down there that so you know that garage door they got down on one end yeah he had to close it yeah ball rolled out out in the parking lot about three

Times so then they had had to shut it and it got hot in there but yeah so yeah I don’t know if you means anything the garage doors open or the garage doors down but anyway with the weather now hopefully they don’t have it open Jeremy

Thanks a bunch have a safe trip and we’ll talk to you next week all right Jeremy Colmes head coach the Barton cougars with us on sports day we’ll talk to Conor nickel up next are you unhappy with your current wireless provider well what are you waiting for make the switch to nexttech

Sports Solutions Connor Nicholls Conor nickel joins us on Friday got a lot of wrestling to talk about today State girls wrestling and of course they took care of the Regionals last week boys regionals this weekend and Connor nickel with us right now but we will begin with basketball today and the hay High

Indians and they’re probably going to they’re in great shape to win The Wack regular season title that’s great but uh looking right now at the uh West substate rankings and right now Great Bend uh they need some help someone needs to knock off Hutchinson but Great

Bend still could uh get a home substate but still a lot of things to go but uh you’ve been knocking down some numbers and an interesting uh 5A West bracket potentially yes certainly so you know going off of last week that um I had mentioned some stats that when a team

Scores especially on the boys side when a team scores a 60 points uh you know coaches have told me over the years and the numbers kind of beared out that that team should always win um and I even knocked it down to 55 points so in great

Then reaches uh 55 points this season they’re 12 and four okay however the uh 5A West contenders basically the teams that great Ben is comparing themselves to May South Capen Andover Hutch P West Emporia Goddard and ha high and those team reach that number they are 80 and

Eight and none of those teams have lost at four times Andover has lost three times and I I want to mention this that Andover led the state an offensive efficiency last year um so you know you go off some of these comparisons I mean Andover is very offensive Centric they

Are 11 and three this year year when they reach at least 55 points and toeka West has been known you know a couple years ago the co year they took um they were second in state they beat uh hay hay on the high they played at an

Extreme Pace very you know they’re very very quick kids they are seven and two quickly run through it may South is 14 and0 when they reach that Plateau as far as scoring Capen 16 and one Hutch n n and speak 72 Andor S6 and0 G 9 And1 and hay High

881 obviously Hay High is more defensive Centric and some other teams on that on that list so again great Ben is having a very nice year but I think steveo you kind of hit it off the bat if you want a top four seed if you want to host host

The substate if you want to go to state I think those are goals that great and want to win win whack really sh awac these are goals you know if you can be a little bit stronger on defense that will likely help out a lot great Ben tonight

At Dodge City in Western Athletic Conference play next Friday they take on Hay High here in great bed we’ll talk more about that next week for that final regular season game let’s get to high school wrestling right now we’ll goad and start with the girls who got their

Regionals out of the way last week uh thoughts on uh looking ahead to next week’s state tournaments for girls yeah and you know the wack did really really well which has been an expectation all season long particularly those those top four teams no Dodge City gets nine through Garden City gets eight through

Great Ben gets six through and then ha High gets through with seven um you know just to mention on great Ben here real fast uh you know the Camden Post the5 pound freshman put together a really nice season 289 uh the the girl at 110 a freshman she gets through 233 three wins

Obviously Gomez is at 130 the senior very very experienced a great season 34 and three she’ll be a strong State Contender at that that weight Stevens at 170 34 and and an eight8 the Junior and then then the sophomore uh at 190 23 23 and seven Gomez in in in part in

Particular um has has been an outstanding wrest you know he high this this year um they’ve known on their girl side hey we could be really really good um you’ve got T Tiana napi a 120 you know she was the most outstanding wrestler of the of the Bob the bobon

Classic a transfer from um Russell after her first year and she is 30 and3 at 120 likely you know your state champion caliber wrestler you’ve got a multiple seniors the Burton girl who is an outstanding kid I’ve actually officiated some games with her through through ha

J’s wck 29 and one at 140 she is signed with Fort Hayes to compete on the mat forward for them uh so you’re looking at some really really quality wrestlers you know I think that uh coach prto a Garden City obviously on the boys side has won four or five state state championships

Thea tarbet at 125 is 40 and two this this year and he’s done it too he has no seniors who qualified for state so he just continues to build and build he’s got two lower actually three excuse me three lower class freshmen all from 100 to 115 um who have collectively are are

Over 100 wins uh combined I think it’s 111 and like 21 so you know you’ve got some really really quality kids there and of course Dodge City want to State title a few a few years back and they’re just they’re just loaded I mean this is a loaded team

Ariana delar Roa at 130 Haley Haley Rayos um Ashley Ashley Alonzo all wrestlers who helped Dodge City to win a state state title um they’re all coming in with gy when when when lost this season um I mean Dodge City could definitely definitely win the State

Title again you know washford R and them have gone back and forth now for a while and and you’ve got two teams I think that could very very much go one two again in in some form do want to mention this really the quick note that ala

North if there’s somebody watch if you see somebody on Twitter some other things you’re like wow who’s that girl kin Hitchcock the Ala North Jr is incredible I mean National caliber wrestler set the alltime Kansas girls wins record last year and all also would have said the boys all times wins wins

Mark I wrestling is her life I’ve talked to her dad several several times this girl is elite elite good so o North could definitely play a role in things uh but again I think that Garden City and Dodge City with Dodge City probably a bit a bit higher could definitely

Finish top three Hy High could finish really really high as well and I think that you know great Ben could fight for for a top 10 10 spot for sure what about uh say the hoisting girls and some uh as far as H top 10 finishes of teams right

Around the Great Bend area certainly yeah you know four through onea girls is is really fascinating each year with the exception of the one year when Pratt was just so far above you know every every everyone else this has always been a really close team Race you know sheno

Last year was a slight surprise to win that uh Championship because generally in 4 through 1A you’re dealing with teams that are qualifying between three and six or seven girls and you know those bonus points matter a lot you know one match can make a huge difference between multiple team team placings you

Know Pratt did get through eight um varying skills but still you know they they they qualified fight eight the Hoisington got got four four through obviously Jones at 130 and then aasco at 145 both seniors very very experienced both of them I think are definitely State title contenders Graves the

Freshman at 17 has put together a nice year and then their 20 uh 35 pounder is a 26 and three three as well too I think all four Hoisington girls can definitely place I think a and Jones could definitely compete for a state championship I think Hoisington getting

A top 10 finish is very very much in play um I do believe that if there’s going to be a favorite rosville and sheno are probably you know one one two I mean rosville has three girls all of them 100 plus wins two of them if they

Were to not win a State title I think would be a fairly sizable upset and then a third who should definitely get to a state championship match and what Oakley has done too has been really interesting Cali Wagner transferred from Quinter to Oakley Oakley has been rank number one

Most of the of the Year kind of a nice human interest story planville gets in four none of them are seniors and their coach has been battling terminal cancer all year long what a great great story there obviously planville and Hoisington have matched up several times this year

And those two teams I think Talent wise and results wise have been really close Okay Regional boys what are one or two top stories that jump off the page before you headed into Regional weekend yeah certainly so again it’s going to be really interesting on on the on the boy

Side of of how many can great bed how many can can H High H get get through you know you look at it and it’s it’s really interesting on the on on 5A West is when you only have two you’ve got Arc City on the west and then you have a

Pittsburgh is is how many can you know your top tier kids are going to definitely get get through but how many of your middle to lower tier kids you know for example gray Ben is Gonna Fill every weight class and most teams do I mean uh most teams are H Hast High going

Every weight class except except one but but when you but when you know just kind of see it and you say hey how does this how does this this bracket track out can we get as many people through as we as we possibly can because you know at 5A

5A and 6A much different on the on the uh girl side you know the top teams are qualifying 10 11 12 13 kids kids from through but again how many of those kids not necessarily your your rank kids but how many of your lower your kids can can

Qualify um you know great Ben’s currently ranked ranked seventh you know you look at Tomlinson 120 the sophomore he’s put together together a nice season um and they’ve got you know they’ve got seven rank kids um Hoffman at 132 you know obviously Cooper lyes at

150 but you look at say say lyes is a really good good example in his weight class the top five kids are all um on the left side you know Shar at 157 Davidson’s ranked at 175 Trenton Kern’s ranked ranked at 190 but again he’s going against all of those kids

That are ranked in the 190 class including Omar Elias of course is a great you know he’s going going going to Air Force as a as a tailback I mean these are elite elite athletes um the last note is uh at 144 Harley is Zimmerman from Hay High defending state

Champion I think he will win another state championship this weekend uh but can great Ben who has no you know number one number two guys except for Jay sharks can they get in a lot of their kind of that middle tier to qualify for State Conor nickel with us sunflow

Sports Solutions I know that you got all kinds of data and everything right so this because we I threw this out the other day and of course I we don’t go this deep in so girls wrestling okay so if Daisy Gomez could win a State title okay

Possible have there have there ever been any girls wrestling champions in the state of Kansas that have also been the homecoming queen um to my knowledge yes it has happened and I remember there was a story there was yeah there was a girl it was a volleyball player as well too and

To my knowledge that she was homecoming queen as well I think it was at a smaller school um but yeah I mean you’re you’re exactly right I mean girls girls wrestling has just blown up I mean it’s been so cool and the you know you look at the GS wrestling now

And the athletes are um consider on par with other sports which is the way way it should be yeah um and maybe in the first first one or two years before the were sanctioned you know you had your your Elite girls who are you know nationally respected Statewide respected

But now you know with Fort Hayes having the the college program you know girls wrestling is just such a really neat thing in fact I remember who it was now the Porche girl at Hoy hawky doesn’t count they win everything else no we’re no they’re going to throw them out

They well I figured okay if there’s somebody that did it let’s check hawky first okay all right well I I was going to motivate Daisy but uh she needs the second maybe I don’t know but uh Connor enjoy the weekend uh man next week it’s just getting more exciting State

Wrestling you’ve got Regional and uh big you know basketball getting underway for one a cool it it’s a fun time of year thanks for joining us and we’ll talk to you next week that’s Jo St thanks again okay Conor n there you go you’ve got your answer right there okay sports day

A neighbor shop local when you can and Equity Bank we’re right here beside you equitybank.com join us in studio head coach of the Bon Lady Cougars Allan Clark as his team gets ready to go to Coffeeville tomorrow to take on the red Ravens how you doing Alan doing good

Steve thanks for having me here we are again you just all of a sudden you look up and okay it was November I talked to Jeremy about that earlier and then here we are it’s it’s February right now teams change a lot how’s your team changed and changed for the better well

I I I think you know we we had a lot of new pieces um not a lot of game experience back from last year so I think that’s the main thing is we we’ve just got a lot of experience now you know kids um are used to what what we’re

Doing and and uh buying in to to the the system and and uh yeah it’s gone really fast this year it’s even faster than normal it seems like y who are some of the because teams evolve you hopefully you know evolve you know players start to find their Rhythm you know playing at

At you know in the Collegiate level for the first time or maybe they take that step forward who have been some of those players for you that have really you know made a big big Str red since uh start of the Season well I’d say all of our sophomores have have really helped

Us um this season with you know limited playing time as freshman last year um KY um is is really stepped up and and you know she’s leading the conference in assist she’s also averaging about 12 points a game and she’s just our she’s just our quiet leader um of course in

Grace John at the point has done a done a nice job um Kenna vogle has really stepped up this year and when ver was out with a concussion she she stepped in the starting lineup and and had a double double against cloud and and played well

At C and and you know Cali was trying to play us a triangle in two and kenon knocked down some shots and and uh so she stepped up this year and played really well especially on the boards and uh and then obviously Tatum beter is shooting the ball really well and you

Know she had her season cut short last year with an injury she plays with such confidence doesn’t she she does yeah she does i’ I’ve always liked that about Tatum you know watching her in high school um you know she just she just has a presence about her out there and Cole

Has more pressure on him I just I just call him Vivian and Vera you know that’s the EAS yeah Vivian and Vera uh talk about their development through the year that’s that’s quite a combo you got out inside yeah and they’re you know they were already pretty good players coming

In but coach Annie is you know kasango has done a great job working with them individually um working with their footwork um just kind of slowing them down in the post a little bit playing a little bit slower and not getting in such a hurry

Um so you know she deserves a lot of credit for those kids’ development okay it’s been an interesting year and you know you’ve stayed near the top you’ve been in the top 25 you know receiving votes a lot it’s you know top four teams top five

Teams in this league you know very very good and there you are youve still got a good shot if you know you take care of business and get the number two seed that’s yeah I mean that’s kind of the season it’s been you know and it seems

Like you’re starting to get get it going right now yeah when we you know this is a big game tomorrow down at Coffeeville you know we’re setting at Fourth and there or third uh half a game ahead of Butler and they’re their fifth um you

Know if we can win this one then that’ll that’ll set up you know not not a clinch a top four seed but it’ll sure go a long way towards it and uh you know then we’ve got uh Hutch and Dodge and Garden City yet to play and and Colby and and

Uh so you know we we can kind of control our own destiny so to speak uh you know Hut moved up to number one in the country and and uh so you know hopefully when they come in here they’re still going to be number one and and uh

That’ll be exciting for us to to have that opportunity yeah go Blue Dragons yeah until they get here that that’d be perfect we can’t talk about that game yet so no yeah talk about this Coffeeville team uh they come in fine record uh they are uh 16 and8 overall 11

And seven in League Play yeah and they’ve got two kids that can really shoot it and if if you let them get going they’re going to be tough to beat um they don’t have as much size as we have inside but they do a really good job of doubling in the post and

Sometimes triple teaming you know when we played them earlier they were you know they were all over ver and Vivian when they got the ball in there and so we’re going to have to make some perimeter shots they’re going to have to play slow in there and kick the ball out

To open Shooters and and uh then we’re going to have to knock down some shots Grace been hitting some threes here of late yeah she’s been shooting the ball better um you know she worked really hard on it during the summer and uh and has really improved her three-point

Shooting and and a lot of it for her just confidence that she’s just just going to step up and knock a shot down okay talk about the trip playing down at Coffeeville is that a unique Arena I guess you could say but uh what’s it like playing at Coffee bille well it’s

It’s different obviously um you know it’s uh it’s wide open on the ends you know just because the the the type of building that they play in um it’s not so deep on the sides you know um but it it it definitely is a different shooting U background backdrop um we’ll get in

There as ear as we can and start getting some shots up and and you know we’re actually going to go down today um we’re going to we’re going to drive down today so we don’t have to make that long trip we we left in the morning last year on a

Saturday and played at two in the afternoon and we didn’t play well we didn’t we didn’t adjust that four-h hour drive very well and uh and Jeremy’s was on board with with you know us going down tonight um and you know not have to have that 4H hour drive tomorrow and

Then play okay team staying healthy knock on wood right now yeah we are um you know just like any any team at this point you’re going to play through you know aches and pains um it’s it’s you know a grind of a season um you know

Vera’s back you know she had a little bit of a concussion uh just a mild concussion missed a couple games um Grace sprained her ankle a little bit out there at Northwest Tech but was able to come back and play on on Wednesday so I yeah we’re we’re pretty well full

Strengths it’s been an interesting year to say the very least it’s been kind of like a you’ve had a lot of help getting this thing and and keeping it going and still provide the leadership and consistency kind of talk about what kind of this journey has been for you this

Year Alan well you know it it it’s it was tough for Annie um you know being being a first year assistant yeah for me um you know and she’d been a head coach and so she she had definitely had her ways of doing things and and I’m like

Her I don’t like to play zone if I don’t have to um our Personnel is kind of dictated you know that we play more Zone this year because you know it’s hard to put ver and Vivian out there trying to guard Joo players on the wings um same with Tatum at 62 62

64 um you know so while while if we played man we would have a disadvantage on our defensive end you know we can play zone um and then on our offensive end then we’ve got an advantage inside obviously so uh it you know that D you

Know it just dictated to us with our Personnel that we have to play more zone so that was the biggest thing for Annie to to have to adjust to because she does not like to play to play zone and and neither do I but but uh we’ve got to do

It and uh and then I guard a little bit different in the post defensively than than she would um there’s there just some differences on the way I do things versus you know some other coaches and so putting her in a situation where she

Had to step in and go to some games you know basically on her own um early in the season made it tough for her um uh and you know just emotionally for for our kids it was it was different U but uh that’s all in the past it’s all

Behind us now and so we can move on okay we head down the home stretch what do you feel best about this year’s addition of Barton Lady Cougars um well I you know just like always we’ve always um been able to build a good chemistry on our team um

Our kids that don’t play as much um they they understand their roles they accept their roles they’re great teammates um most of those kids obviously are freshman and they understand that that you know that their turn will probably come next year more and just like the

The kids that are on the floor now with Tatum and Grace and qua and Darby I didn’t didn’t even mention Darby before um so you know those kids you know as freshman didn’t play as much either and uh so now they you know when their time

Came they were ready to go and obviously you know um we’ve had some setbacks but they’ve had a good season Allan great to see you back in studio today and uh good luck tomorrow I appreciate you okay Alan Clark joining us here on sports day we’ll be back and wrap up the Friday
