Well remarkable career not the night that Lance Franklin or his teammates would have wanted as they tried to build into season 2023 but he kicks the two goals he goes past Doug Wade the fourth greatest goal kicker in the history of the game what a career it has been great

To see some of his old Hawthorne teammates there to be part of it all the front by coming up after the break but s a really important night for the Saints they were down at 3/4 time and we wondered what they had they rallied in that last quarter five goals to two it

That squeaky voice that squeaky voice so I thought I’d just go up and get close and personal to him and had a CRA at him uh well he didn’t take it that well cuz afterwards at rumors where we just used to do a lot of our best work actually

Come out said you’re me at the entertainment said I want to fight you and he had a couple of his big miners cuz he was doing the highway man he had his gold mine anyway I I said to him mate I’m I’m a lover not a fighter I

Told him the story we ended up having a couple of beers and thankfully he didn’t want to fight me after that well best you st clear of him but you didn’t stay clear of opposition players I always wondered about whether you wanted to be the one that would put the Line in the

Sand for your team and take the fight to as this upstart team taking on the established clubs do you feel like that was a role that you wanted to fill in that in that team well I don’t know I think that there was a lot of guys from

The old vfl like Craig Kelly and Dwayne Russ I me Dwayne Russell my first game at jalong he actually crushed the top of my feet with his metal sprigs and I got stress fracture on the top of my foot which I played with then for the next 10

Weeks so uh a few of these guys you sort of learned things from pretty quickly you could take care of yourself though because you spent a lot of time in the gym on some very big weights have a look at this whoa there and here you are

And can I just say there better be a pool at that gym Bo you were in a lot of trouble young man that’s Brian Edwards Rehabilitation and so yeah that’s just a little bit of light recovery did that at your gym and you get suspended unbelievable very

Different hey so very quickly the West Coast Eagles though successful early weren’t they they’re in the straighten of the finals in 1988 so you played out at wavely Carl and the ground announcer sign Mike Williamson he did his best to kind of you know keep the crowd uh you

Donnie Pike got headlocked on the wing and I remember walking off at Victoria Park and you used to have to walk through the chicken wire and I thought I got warm beer tipped over me one day it wasn’t warm beer um so yeah it didn’t

Smell like warm beer put it that way no well can I say this uh they had technology or they thought of introducing technology to stop that kind of stuff going on after the game this was their brainchild initially increased police and AFL security squads will be at all

Future games then will come secret new technology to protect the players this is how it could work at the sound of the first siren players will head to the center of the ground the movable barriers will be run out and the two teams hered down their respective races

All the time shielded from the crowd that’s unbelievable or you don’t let Spectators on the ground did you ever feel threatened because you were always in the center of everything we on the field off the field you were just at Ground Zero for every kind of interaction with you know what back in

My day we used to stay over so when I went out and about in Melbourne to be honest when the games finished it went off the ground never ever had an issue but back in Western Australia I couldn’t uh probably tell you how many times got whacked uh at at somewhere Friendly Fire

Well not really that friendly I can honestly tell you but no I I found it like once you went off the field here it was okay except for a couple of those instances as a group enormous respect for the way you played your footy and as

Sam said before your second year as a group you play finals 40 91 you’re playing the Grand Final out at wav you don’t get the result you didn’t play that day but 92 of course you’re getting we’ll have a chat about the grand fin in a moment but what are your memories of

The of the parade and being part of the lead up to the game even in the parade they didn’t spare you Carl no magnificent uh and I don’t know if you’ve actually seen uh the vision of the bloke that the jalong bloke he pulls this pink dummy out of his baby’s mouth

What this pink dummy the one that we’re about to have a look at here that one yeah the story so so I’m going along the back of the car and then this BL pulls that pink dummy out of his baby’s mouth and he goes yeah suck on this langon so

Before he could jam it away I grabbed it out of his hand and started sucking on his dummy uh and and so that dummy got a really good run because after we won the game thankfully uh that dummy I gave to Daryl Summers because we were on hey

Saturday at the glass house and then that dummy got handed to the channel 7 uh World of Sport footy guys on the Sunday morning and they were all sunken on the pink dummy so not so good on the co well I believe Greta thumberg has it now

I don’t know how I don’t know how she got it but she got it absolutely so uh it’s interesting that you got boo during the Grand Final parade that is a fair effort uh but because it’s usually at a time of Celebration for the fans and the teams

Wouldn’t have any of that confrontation so as we’re going across it’s amazing stuff yeah well further on from that there’s a couple of little jalong kids they’re about 10 I reckon and I’ve got West Coast West Coast wankers on their flags and they start doing laps around

Us right and I thought Glen jackovich was going to eat one of them he had the baby you know he always used to put the baby all on before games I jack what do you got that on for he says cuz they slip off car they slip off so and this

Is all before the game on the way through that looks that looks terrifying yeah I think slightly offset uh by the royal blue and yellow tracksuits but it’s still terrifying yeah it was uh you got increasingly terrifying on Grand final day particularly for long supporters I mean it was a it was a

Coming of Age moment it was historic moment the first non Victorian team to win the Grand Final they started well you’re in the middle of everything when did you when did you know the game or felt the game was starting to flip well they physically tried to MIM us early
