Defensive struggle and of course you want to see a lot of points but I don’t know there was just something about it still with Patrick Mahomes a 49 ners uh it was it was fun for me to watch it was fun for me to watch with you guys and

Then we got the drama at the end of the game where we got to see the star shine Patrick Mahomes make his big comeback in the in overtime and and capture that that third MVP trophy that third Super Bowl Patrick Mahomes is doing just about everything he can to climb up that list

Of greatest of all time to win that game he did all the things that we [ __ ] about Jared GF that’s true he was a game manager he you know he didn’t show how strong his arm was he didn’t really run very much he just made smart plays the

Exact same thing that Jared golf does but we [ __ ] about it but Patrick mahom does it he wins the Super Bowl yeah yeah he was getting ready to to let one loose I I it was either in overtime or late in the fourth quarter where he was about he

Was chucking his arm back and he decid to you know pass it off to the FL check down to P made All the Right Moves at the end of the game Kool-Aid what were your thoughts yeah I I mean just first on the game itself it’s amazing to see a

Quarterback like Patrick Mahomes operate the way that he does you talk about a guy who was like cool calm collected the entire game there were times where I’m just like yo they might be in trouble and he’s on the sideline kind of smiling and it was just like yo you could see

That there’s just a completely different rarified air that he walks in especially in this quest of trying to chase down what Tom Brady built up in this NFL Patrick Mahomes is amazing let’s just start there but as a Detroit Lions fan watching that game hey kg you got that

Uh first you know let’s go to the alexand Zone one first all right I got you because I I swear this was all of Detroit not going to lie this is tough because the entire game especially in that first half I was sitting there like you know what the Detroit Lions

Absolutely would have and could have competed in that Super Bowl and probably I think that they had the makeup and the recipe to actually come out on top if they would have made it man yeah they got the pieces we could see especially with how they performed against San

Francisco in the first half of the NC championship game with that offense we we’ like to think that offense would go out and score more points than either the than the 49ers against the Chiefs but you’re not the only one though I yeah I don’t know it to me it more just

Felt like they not belonged in that game but they’re not they belong in this convers in this tier of teams they’re right up there at the top of the NFL and if they were in this Super Bowl they would have competed just as if the 49ers

Were in there so I just felt like they they would be at home in this Super Bowl not not the super mega underdog if that makesense competing and winning are two different things yes they would have competed but I think what we saw last night when it was time to win the game

Patrick Mahomes elevated himself Patrick Mahomes became Michael Jordan Patrick mahom said y’all not going to beat us tonight so I’m going to do what you have to do so I think yes the Lions would have competed but at the end Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce would have done

What they had to do to beat them and another dude is Chris Jones Chris Jones didn’t like the way the defense was playing he yells at the defense everybody they get their act together and they play better so uh I I don’t think the Lions would have won

That game competing yes but bottom line is Kansas City would impose their will on him and won that game yeah yeah definitely Chris Jones bring him home Chris Jones come on baby come on good luck with that you talked about I know it’s going to be a lot of money you

Problem and that’s what you want to hear like I keep saying this trade deadline was all about our young guys becoming those guys now they have to lead this team if they don’t lead what this restore is then all of the losing was for nothing

Do but if you feel that you’ve got an advantage against the defense I don’t blame him for taking the ball but Terry in overtime and I happen to disagree in overtime in the new NFL rules for overtime knowing that both teams are going to get a chance to get the ball if

If like in Kansas City scenario when they get the ball second the second possession of overtime they now have the ability or the thought knowing that a field goal is all that they need to match they know they know exactly what’s in front of them and they can play Four

Down football like they know they’ll know whether they need to win or lose whether they need to kick a field goal to tie or you get a touchdown and you win the game just like that without back if I score a touchdown I don’t give a

The one on the sideline who dropped that ball but understanding the moment understanding the points understanding how your team has lost the momentum on offense sometimes it’s just better to take the points especially moments like that I see kg over here raring up man what’s what’s up brother I’m

Just oh there it is there go yeah but um yeah you absolutely got to take the points in that situation man like it the the two situations were very different the Lions they were coming off one already failed fourth down um I believe I can’t remember whether it was the

Helmet catch or the fumble that was just coming off that drive as well so you had a chance to stop the bleeding at that point in the game the momentum had already completely swung this is a way to keep your team in the game and also

You know like if they do make the field goal there we know how the end of the game resulted they did score that touchdown they would have tied the game instead of been trailing and would have had to rely on the side kick so I think

That was just a smarter play it’s easier to say in hindsight but just at that point in the game the way the momentum had just absolutely went to the 49ers I’m definitely taking the points in that spot and giving my team some kind of Hope like he we got this it’s okay we’re

Still in this game here’s something we never discussed what if he misses the field goal and I understand that now what yeah but we we know how it happened the other way too I do get your argument we we can play semantics we can play if

They went to overtime you know they may have won it they may not have won it but that’s just how I feel you you in the playoffs everything counts for double mistakes being one of them you have to take the points when they’re available like I’m not I’m not saying don’t be

Aggressive at all the first fourth down I I wasn’t mad at that but the second one I just felt like he needed better discernment in that moment man it’s and it’s crazy because Dan Campbell makes these decisions to go for it based on the numbers and it it would seem like

The safest bet is to kick that field goal but if he’s going for it and he’s looking at that play sheet he understands the team that he has what what did he do was what was his percentage going forward on Fourth Downs throughout the entire like over 50% no

No in that situation it was 80% going for it on fourth down fourth and two is where he was in that position yeah 50% overall but in that position he was 17 out of 20 he had a higher percentage of hitting that play than he did kicking the field goal because badg

Le Bley or whatever his name is was only bger uh you know a little better than 50% and hitting that on the outdoor field CU we always like well he hit he kicked a 54 yard field goal the week before yeah was indoors at for field it’s a lot different that’s a good

Point yeah lunchbox hooligan says he was 18 of 22 uh in the postseason in two and two uh 18 of 22 and 2 and2 in the postseason on those types of decisions up to that point it’s just like man oh man oh man and that’s the thing he it

Coach trusted Us in that moment to be able to make that play and sometimes I’m wondering like the numbers are not how much of this came down to who the kicker was and how important is it for Brad Holmes to make sure this is not an issue next season you have Super Bowl

And the and the tight ends and the wide receivers stink twice and I do I like Al Zone I like where Jack Campbell is going to be in the future but sometimes I really think about wow if they could actually you know find a way to bring in

I mean he was making first downs um you know keeping the drives alive and I noticed uh I kind of kept track of the carries and the yardage and uh when got the ball he actually had 10 plays of four yards or less in the game I mean he

Had a couple I think his biggest player was like 13 yards or whatever and you know part of the Lions struggles I think in the third quarters have been um you know they like to run the ball play tight in the first first half and I feel

Like through the course of the Year sometimes they get a little too cute with the you know they want to get the big chunk plays you know and be aggressive but it especially in the playoffs I think they’d have been a little better off if they just would

Have ground the game out you know whether they were you know running the ball or um just a few other things they could have done better but um you know like the the last three quarters of of the last five games they scored zero seven three seven and seven against

Dallas in the third quarter and you know for a team that’s that explosive sometimes you know I think they should just uh be satisfied to grind it out and take the other team’s will away but uh anyways I just started run some numbers by you guys so thanks for everything you

Second half so as soon as they’re back in third and 10 second and 10 second and 14 third and 14 they’re there there’s less opportunity to run especially when that San Francis San Francisco’s bringing bringing the house they they were trying to shut down the run so it

Was just it all compounded you’re right on that it seemed like in that third quarter every time they tried to run on first down they were hitting a brick wall and getting just like a couple yards which then made second down that much more to think about you know when

You when they were in the first half and you can rattled off uh like these big long runs you talking about 10 20 yards on some of these plays but know that yeah we’re going to get at least four to five yards a carry it changes the whole

Complexity of the game from a play calling standpoint and when you look at what happened in that third quarter the 49ers forced the Lions hand they really did and that’s someplace I I I I want to be able to go back and look at a lot of

These games from the season to looking at third quarter was that a point of emphasis was this kind of in the playbooks did teams know hey you know what in this third quarter we can kind of get them off the game coming out of halftime with these types of adjustments

Aimed at making the Lions more dependent on the passing game yeah and and and and and having to have them go a little bit away from their strengths because then it takes the Detroit Lions even if they were successful in some of these games throughout the season it takes them a

Little bit out of the driver seat from what they like to do puts them in the passenger seat so sometimes you get to where you want to go but it’s not necessarily you driving the show like they did in the first half against the 49ers yeah I tell you why they abandon

The Run they’re completely getting shut down like a two yard run was a success for them I mean they were losing like three and four yards on a run and stuff like that you know you can’t keep living that way so if they got you your run

Game shut down and you can’t do anything about it then you need to do other things yeah I also think where they messed up especially later in the game not saying jir gives is strictly an outside back but when you got a front four that tough man you got to put David

Montgomery between the tackles if you look at where the fumble happened I know he went to the wrong gap or whatever or made the wrong move but but um him running inside was just a noo in that third quarter man he absolutely uh should have just stuck to the outside
