In todays video I visit North Berwick Golf Club which is one of the best Links golf courses in the World. I also stay at The Marine Hotel in North Berwick to take a look at the recent refurbishment.

Just an Average Golfer giving unbiased opinions on all things golf, product tests, Golf travel vlogs and golf news!
It all started here 10 years ago and I feel like it’s time time to reflect on what has changed and what the future holds a journey back in time to revisit a golf course and a hotel that changed so many things for Me you see the West Links at North Beric was the first golf course I played in East loan an encounter that would have an extraordinary impact on what was to become an eternal love affair with Link’s golf during that time I’ve been on a journey to discover some of the finest
Examples of Link’s Gulf But ultimately all roads lead back to my first love and what is the 13th oldest golf club in the world little has changed on the westlinks it isn’t too different from the layout golfers played here at the end of the 19th century and today I’m
Going to show you why this place is so special right super excited to get this one on the way first tier is always a weird one it’s a strange hole 322 yards that’s off the blue I think we’re slightly forward anyway 322 yards I’m going to drive a bit of left right and
Hopefully I don’t get too near to that beach but I’ve got to admit it kind of always wants to hug you over that Way ah short you know I reckon we could just end the video here you’ve seen enough already how good is this what a backdrop even though I did come up a little bit short yeah that’s a good Start Oh The front 9 is classic Links at its finest rolling Fairways expansive greens revetted bunkers Fairway split and lined with stone wall and an Endless Sea View and of course no links track would be complete without the appearance of a burn and in this case a hidden
One right a word of warning on the 7th and after here quite a few times as well and I still forgot I feel like this like gone fishing I’ve just caught some it there’s a big Brook that you can’t see for the second shot which um the
Flag is just 10 yards on the other side I thought it it a really good shot and I didn’t now North barck is almost the typical 9 out n in but it’s in fact eight out one across and then nine in and uh the prevailing wind I think is
Is’s very much into for the front nine that’s how we’ve played it today and we’ve got plenty of help and assistance all the way in and I can tell you from now on in it’s been amazing but from now on in it’s pretty spectacular that’s the best of the day as
Well stay out those bunkers from a reading we J just miss this bunker by the way I’ve got a reading off of uh a water sprink over there I think we got about 230 in we’re going to go three-wood be nice if we can get something in and around
There okay come on be good be good kick up have I got enough of it oh no I think the only good news is we might to come just short of the bunker I was perhaps thinking I’m a little bit better than I am I thought we were
Reaching there I didn’t say have the the bunker I’m afraid and uh I wasn’t that far off reaching but uh this is a tough one get up a bit more I you know what that’s a pretty decent effort oh well that’s a decent part I
Suppose now as much as I like like to narrate I’m going to keep quiet and let the images do the talking for a minute enjoy Now the 11th T box uh which we just stood behind actually but it’s been moved forward because a bit of renovation work going on but the views they’ve established from up here there’s a lot of trees bushes been removed which has revealed a far better view than I’ve
Ever seen before from up here it really is uh well pretty special stood on the 11th T and I’m going to have a a we nip as they say which is the perfect Scottish little uh halfway break how nice is that Though tell me who else in the comment section below pinch is store from the breakfast buffet put it in the golf bag and as it mid round that’s a cinnamon swirl and it’s delightful in life change is inevitable as golf as we change over the years our
Swings evolve which is a polite way of saying we get slower our priorities change maybe our Outlook towards the game itself is viewed differently and in the case of today’s ACC accomodation it has also changed the Marine hotel has undergone a major refurbishment in recent years and has been returned to
Its former glory this is the hotel in East loan and the one thing that hasn’t changed is its Location the changes at the Marine hotel are incredible and somewhere I would highly recommend and aside from its proximity to North baric Golf Course let’s not forget its central location provides access to East loan’s Gulf in Mecca and a short 20-minute train journey has you in Edinburgh now whilst I enjoy every inch at North barck there are three holes for which the West linkx is best known for and it all kicks off on the 13th a hole known as pit And that is as good as I’ve got don’t go in the bunker oh my word that might be too good that’s right off towards the wall I think That looked good for a long long time that’s a decent four Though next hole is called Perfection and that’s what it needs well that’s what it is as well because this is my favorite golf hole on the course have a little extra nip of whiskey just before we uh play this one but on my word what a the golf Ball wish me Lu kick Up yeah that’s that could be good I’m certainly benefiting from being down Breeze cuz that drive has gotten me uh well so so far down the Fairway and what you’re looking at right now from a camera purched up on top is uh one of the best views there is and I need
Something like 80 yards into that flag but uh it’s a bit of a blind One now the question is that’s at the Mark or is it this the Sprint up the hill revealed an average golf shot but a way above average visual ah never mind a pass’s good what a backdrop I’ve played my three favorite holes really well but we won’t know where that one’s finished until very much the last minute and the reason for that is a rather large bunker which which has recently undergone some change yeah so uh on 15 we’ve got the the bunker left of the green that uh
Over a period of a number of years has kind of shrunk over H shrunk in size over the years so we we spoke to chrisen CDE Chris Johnson and Clyde hasel who we we deal a lot with for shaping works and construction and they did a bit of
Homework as to what the bunker used to look like and the plan was to try and take it back to similar to how it used to be so you know now we have a the Bunker’s totally shaped it’s been re- revetted um the the Bunker’s actually
Been pulled closer to the green um and probably doubled in size if not closer or Tred in size the big objective was to get that back looking how it used to be the changes that we’re making we’re not doing it because we’re wanting to you know blow the course up and start again
And making something that it’s not it’s very much bringing some of the historical features of the course back to how they were um the 17th bunker the long bunker on 17 we rebuilt that last year and that was very much part of that mindset as well it wasn’t we’re wanting
To do something completely out of the ordinary it was looking to bring back something that was maybe here at a point in time we’re very lucky that a lot of people come from all over the world to play our course and we don’t take that
For granted and you know I I don’t look at the course and say you know we have to do this we have to do that it is a case of why do people come here what do they expect when they come here what is the Artic experience and we want to try
And add to that so it it’s all very much in keeping with that idea it’s enhancing what we already have now if you’re not blown away already photo of the week is pretty special take your pick and comment down below good Luck You know I don’t really think you can appreciate just um how good a coast like North barck is you’ve got to sort of immerse yourself in the middle of it because from the from the sidelines at least it looks almost flat from a distance but you start to see the change
In elevation those undulations which are quite significant like I said when you’re walking in amongst them and it’s the type of golf course to fully appreciate I think you’ve just got to come along and experience it for yourself I do hope we do it justice on
The camera but I’m not sure you could ever understand unless you got it here and give it a will yourself a massive shout out again you know to Tacomo for sponsoring this last few episodes of this series to be honest with the product has been fantastic you’ve seen
Me use it in uh well this is now the fourth episode they’ve sponsored um I’m using 301 CBS in the shorter irons and 101 T’s in the longer irons and as I’ve said before using their Fairy Woods as well and I got to say uh sponsorship aside their product has been Fantastic as the light falls and the Shadows lengthen my visit to this hallow Turf is coming to an end another chapter in my journey is complete I probably don’t have the words to describe why this place is so special but hopefully my camera Can With so much change it’s nice when some things remain unaltered North berck Golf Club may have seen tweaks and Restorations over the years but I walk the same Fairways as many trod before me great things stand the test of time and the landscape on the west links is
Untouchable it is a landmark in gulf’s historical timeline and one which has to be Encountered 10 years from now I will sit on this beach look out to the crashing waves listen to the seagulls and watch the sun set on the horizon all of which will remain as I sit here today unchanged I may look a little different my swing even slower but I guarantee the
One thing that will remain unaltered the fairways known as the westlinks in North Baric

Another nice video. You appeared to be hitting your fairway shots off of a mat. Some upcoming event at the course that had you doing that?
Andy D
I remember a year or so ago when you talked about making some changes that I made an RSVP comment to you, to "think outside the box" and (just) find another (i.e. different) way….. Well, your "Off the Beaten Path" approach shows you did just that. Hats off to you (!) for a more introspective look – at not just golf but a way to live life. The visuals to me are just icing on the cake! MG
A great video, Andy. Superb camera work and a wonderful golf course with even more amazing views! Andy d is great but Tracy a just pips it! North Berwick is definitely on my bucket list!
Incredible.

Hello Andy, great video again and very beautiful golf course. I vote for Andy d. Looking forward to watch your next videos.
Another BEAUTE And. Sorry to say that once again I prefer Tracy b, though there were some amazing shots…the golf wasn't bad either. 😉
I find it interesting that I just finished watching some of the Good Good golf tournament and the click on this video and the content could not be more different. I really enjoy the change of pace with incredible views, relaxing music and great commentary. YouTube golf has something for everyone and you fill a much needed change of pace. Thanks for what you are doing. Keep up the great work.
Stunning start to my morning. Thanks,
Stunning content Andy. As an ex-pat living in NZ, you have just provided a beautiful end to my evening. Thank you so much for making a special video about a terrific course I have had the pleasure of playing. Plus Andy d is just a wonderful photo. Thanks and goodnight from Hastings, NZ.
This production is epic, I just love the mood and the whole quality of your work, this is everything that golf means to me, tranquil and peaceful on a stunning course. Keep them coming as these are the best watch on here. Top man Andy. Pic Andy D.
It looks like you enjoyed one of those "it's a good day to be alive" days And – a perfect day on a magnificent golf course. Nice! I hope they invite you back in 8 years for the 200th anniversary celebrations.
I'm not picking a winning photo this week. They all were equally wonderful. Well done to both of you.
Well done too, and thanks, to Takomo. Whilst I don't yet play their clubs, they are definitely on the radar. Cheers.
I've had to watch this several times over and it's just a masterpiece Andy. The way you've brought so much love and emotion into the video is incredible! If YouTube did awards for golf videos of the year this would be right up there!
Andy !! Content is amazing and what a magical place!
Thank you for the wonderful tour.
I liked all the views simply magnificent
It's hard to beat Scotland. It is one of the most beautiful places on Earth.

A great course & video. I played here in 2022 and you’ve helped me to want to play it again ⛳️👍
Stunning!
Andy, that’s your best video ever and it just happens to be on one of my top 3 courses in the whole world! Fantastic job. Your swings looking pretty good as well! (Tracy A for me!)
Andy D for me…
Andy another wonderful video the light and the atmosphere that is captured is wonderful, what a fantastic course. I have played a few Links courses in my time, I have played them in Ireland and two of the best in South Africa Humewood in Port Elizebeth and my all time favorite Milnerton in Cape Town with stunning views across to Table Mountain, with the City of Cape Town snuggled under it watchful gaze!!
Unfortunately I have never been lucky enough to play Scottish links golf but one day hopefully!!
Thanks again for the wonderful video.
PS it looked like you were using the Mizuno 230 Max driver! Are you enjoying it?
@theaveragegolfer love the new content so much! Would also love the videos to be about 30 minutes long though!!!
Played this course a good few years ago, we got 4 seasons weather in the time it took to play one round, wind, rain, hail, but over the last 4 or 5 holes the wind dropped and the sky cleared, the low sun highlighting the humps and hollows of each fairway. The view down the 18th hole was magical. Great course.
Tracy A is my favorite photo. The video, Magnificent Sir.
Love the way this channel is set up, superb content 👍
Andy your content has always been outstanding watched for few years now but this vlog takes the biscuit absolutely brilliant. Would love to get to play there one day . Tracey B
Wow great vid and scenery ❤❤❤ Tracy b for me
Outstanding! This is probably the best video of this series! I've watched it a few times already, and I'm sure I will again. And my vote is for Andy d. Keep the content coming!
Andy A

Hi Andy
I have been watching your channel for a number of years, even winning a TAGers t shirt! Just wanted to say the production of your videos are fantastic and this one especially as North Berwick is one of favourites courses. I remember sheltering behind one of the walls with hail going sideways…..2 minutes later sunshine. Thats why playing golf in Scotland is so special
