Okay welcome to what’s in my drawers golf talk I hate technology so let’s just get this party Started welcome back to what’s in my drawers golf talk Jim mcclear here and why is it what’s in my drawers because it is what’s in my drawers back in my shop and it is about old clubmakers Club Fitters being tremendous packrats and that’s what we are all right this is

Where we talk about Golf Club repairs Golf Club fittings and Golf Club reviews all Ser your scores can go low ah so there’s a lot to talk about today there’s a lot to talk about we had the Super Bowl congratulations to the Kansas City Chiefs uh that was what you call a

Comeback type of game for sure um and then uh congratulations to Charlie Hoffman Waste Management Open right now there’s all the again the Internet is just and the radio stations are going crazy absolutely crazy with the idea of the conduct of the people that are that were part of that

And uh and it was it was bad right I mean I get it I get it that the that the uh the PE it’s a rockus I mean it is that’s just exactly what it is it’s a rockus and uh and and that’s you know and

That’s where I think it’s a good break it’s a it is a pressure breaker for I don’t for the tour right for the tour and I’m more than I am more than happy uh for them to do that but the idea here is the idea is that they should you know

At least conduct themselves in a properly rockish manner maybe when you’re peeing in a creek or you’re falling over a balcony uh that’s when you that’s when it’s bad right that’s when it’s bad and and it should be it it should be contained in my opinion it just should be contained and

Uh that’s just where it should be and and so that’s where we’re at and I think we you know I think we can all agree that they they went a a little bit beyond and above in their conduct and you know don’t mind drinking beer don’t mind don’t mind getting roud

And loudy because or yeah loud and Rowdy because they know it’s coming right they know it’s coming and it’s the basically they one time a year to you know fling off this fling off the uh the proprietary conduct that is supposed to be out there and let them

Have at it and and normally it’s a good time and and okay so that’s where we’re going to be with that let’s do this all right so no we don’t want that there we go uh and so I just think that the guys got they’ve got work to do right they’ve got

Got work to do I thought well I thought I did that there we go maybe it’ll turn off eventually me and Technology are not getting long today and I do not stomach it very well all right so back to the Super Bowl man how about that with those guys just

Going crazy with the uh uh the comeback I mean I I got to watch the first uh first half and then the super and then the half time show and then I watched the kickoff and then I was done I had to go to bed but the uh overall

Not a bad game I mean if you got if you’re within a field goal of of the winning score I’d say it’s a pretty good game alrighty so we got through all that so congratulations to Charlie Hoffman congratulations to the Kansas City Chiefs hope it’s all going well for them

All hopefully they can both wake up today without a bunch of headaches okay so what do we do this week didn’t have quite the topic this week we’ve been uh I’ve been doing a lot of golf ball testing again um but fittings so I

Did a fitting for a a Duo a couple of buddies came in and they tend to golf quite a bit with each other and it was called I called him ying and yang when it was all said and done uh the one guy was an experienced

Golfer and he uh was he had like he was swinging in the regular what would be considered the regular Flex range I swear to all that is Holy and and I just it was just crazy and there now it’ll go away and and he was regular flex but he was very

Aggressive in his swing And the other guy was a be not a beginning golfer he had laid off golf and then came back to it and he had a much faster swing uh but it wasn’t nearly as controlled and and so we had a lot we had a lot of work to do so he was

Used to you know need to stiff this stiff that and I introduced him into what I would call regular Flex clubs that were beefy right BS what we call them firm Flex maybe and all of a sudden that was a deal and as it turned out he

Had the original hmbs from mauno and the 245s that I I put him in 245s with a particular shaft it was a 120R and the thing worked out really good and he started hitting a little bit more down the middle uh more yeah more down the middle

Needed to be the right length and and he was enjoying golf more and that was the big thing uh had a incredibly good short game so that we worked out with that one uh the driver was uh the driver I beat by about half a club I I wouldn’t say it

Was too amazing but that’s what it when it came down to that that’s what we did and then in the putter though in both cases in the putter it was funny they both had the wrong Putter and meaning that um what they what they wanted to do

So the one guy had a face balance Putter and the other guy had a a toe balance putter of which the uh you could have reversed them they could have traded Putters and probably been all right unfortunately one guy was gaming a Scotty and another guy was gaming an

Older Odyssey so I don’t think the charade would have been too fair and so we found the right length and the lie and the angle for him and everything and showed them what they needed and uh both ended up putting very very well now with

The newer type of golfer he had a very very high swing speed but uh had this real lack of flexibility when he got when he got to the for swing or the final part of it his hand would turn almost uh Arnold palmeres and it was causing it was

Causing problems he was causing it was causing him to pull and uh so once we got that worked out of where he was standing and got his stance a little bit right it got him out there a little bit further and a little bit straighter that

Was really where we were wanting to go so it was about a 6-hour ordeal for the two of them and it worked out pretty good because they got to switch off back and forth and uh and we ended up with some pretty good equipment for him so

They’re reviewing it now we’ll see what happens going forward and uh hopefully we’ll see him again uh so that turned out good so it just goes to show that you know all the way down putter wedges in fact one of them really needed a wedge wasn’t M the other guy didn’t have

Much of a wedge game and so we we talked about what it took to manipulate the wedge and all of a sudden now he’s got two or three shots in the back and um that was pretty good too so we like that all right got some work underway we’re

Doing we’re reshafting a brand new set of the Titus uh T 350s and it was from a fitting that club champion did and wanted me to build them and I said okay and U and I was just finishing the ferals I don’t know if you can’t see it but I was

Finishing the ferals just before coming in here the dog on feral belt ate one of my damn ferals uh without me seeing it and so I’ve got to take that feral off and put another feral back on and which that’s just rework all righty so that’s where that’s where we’re at oh we’re

Talking about the golf balls this whole thing with this dog on phone is just absolutely driving me nutty okay so we talked about Wilson and their golf ball and how we like the Wilson Staff and I do I like that Wilson Staff the 94 compression I

Think is going to be bang for buck probably one of the best golf balls out there however Callaway has now released their versions and this is only two of the three you got the chrom soft and you got the Chrome tour now there’s a chrome Tour X out

There as well now what what makes these things so special well the Chrome soft is exactly where everybody would think it is it’s just a redesigned golf ball they go through that from time to time right and it has a newer core and their whole thing on

All the on all the logoing and all the on the boxes if you can see this there it is that that the called Precision technology and so what it was Callaway invested quite a bit of money into their golf ball plant to the tune of probably 100

Mil and in order to be able to track or do the quality control on these golf balls and and so that’s what we’re seeing now so now this thing has let me get to the back of the box I’ll show you so what it’s talking about the the

Marketing is the same on the back of the box it all looks the same except for when it changes you know gold for gold where it’s red here in the picture of the golf ball and it will say new seamless tour Arrow delivers constantly high ball flight with low spin okay now

Every time I hear that I roll my eyes because they all say that however we’ll see uh new hyper elastic core produces exceptionally fast ball speeds which is what everybody else is chasing and then a high perform performance tour urethane cover consistently delivers outside or outstanding green side control and feel and

Is all three of those golf balls right and it says for feel that the Chrome soft is soft that’s a good thing the tour is medium and the Tour X is a medium firm and surprisingly enough or not surprisingly enough the spin on the long game is low for the soft and the

Tour but medium on the X and then high and high for short game Spin but maximum for the Tour X and then in the workability is medium high and high from the chrom soft to the X ball that’s what they’re saying so I took some time yesterday just before the Super Bowl and

I went through a bunch of these and I did it with a wedge a pitching wedge a seven a five a four hybrid and a driver and I got to test the new St Max while I was doing it so it was a twof for I got

Two videos out of it and uh one will be dropping tomorrow so if you haven’t already like And subscribe this please and and then you’ll get more information when the videos drop out there this next one will be on the golf ball testing of these golf balls

Now without giving too much of it away I play the predecessor to this one and it’s not because I’m a heavy hitter it’s because of the way I attacked the golf ball I created too much Spin and that was the predecessor to the Chrome soft

XLS it’s a lot of words and I think what they’re trying to do is get away from the chrom soft in the in a club when the golf ball or in the ball when the golf ball is not necessarily soft it gives it a you know some people would say it’s a

A negative connotation personally I just think it’s a name um so there you go so we’ll see what the differences in testing are the fun there is a difference um from what I from what I got out of this so we that’ll be interesting to see so pick that up

Tomorrow if you would it’ll be out there early in the morning all right and I’m also the St Max is a is a nice little Club I had the 50 gr stiff Cali in it uh good combination good combination indeed I really liked it okay so since I didn’t do any of the

Other stuff let’s just get to answering some questions all right Matt hello everyone no rounds Rim how much golf do you play in the rain what type of rain suits would you recommend well I will say that I will play in the rain I’m not much of a cold

Weather golfer like you but I would much rather if it’s raining I don’t mind to put on a suit and go I mentally am not prepared a lot of times if it’s raining out and you say well let’s go golfing I’m probably not going to do that but if

There’s a chance of rain I will still go and if it rains then you put your suit on I know that’s a kind of a fine line but that’s where I’m at and what I use is Sun Mountain has some outer gear that I prefer a nice pair of pants and a nice

Gortex top that you can zip up and you and it breathes that’s my biggest thing is something that breathes because a lot of that stuff is just basically putting on a rubber suit that’s not what you want now as far as the other stuff um there’s another group called gallway

Bay uh they do pretty good I mean they’re they’re always rated in the top end that’s kind of an uh what call it a exotic group exotic pair but it’s one of those you buy one and you’re done and the one I’ve had from this uh from Sun

Mountain I’ve had for years so I think that would work whatever you guys think all right John he’s back in Myrtle Beach he had eight days in Jamaica good time well good I’m glad you enjoy the trip and you’re back home safe all right have you ever heard of aod golf

Apparently that’s the new irons Bryson’s playing he should stick with the pings uh I have not I have not heard of them uh uh I have not heard of them I didn’t know he’s playing pings either I thought maybe the Cobras were uh maybe since he

Lost all his weight he’s taking on a different type of a swing who knows Hammer fan Behavior at the waist man was unacceptable I’d have to agree I’ve seen things that weren’t shown on TV and it was ridiculous PJ needs to dial it back I would agree again again

Like I said I know everybody knows are there to have a good time 16th is a Rowdy hole you know and some of in the past some of those players have brought it on themselves as well because you see them throwing golf balls with money attached to it in there shooting

T-shirts into the stand so they’re kind of egging that on now pepper into the green with a whole bunch of beer cans not a good look falling out of the stands not a good look peeing all over yourself definitely not a good look you know and and it’s unfortunate that those

Folks are are taking away from the other people that are trying to have a Rowdy good time without getting crazy so they are they’re going to have work cut out for them I guess they had uh you know totaled into the hundreds of thousands going into this so I’m just trying to

Figure out how the waste management folks or the golf course collected on that you know the the story was that that they closed down they were so full that they closed the gates and are still people outside with tickets so how those other folks get in Stephen Matt if my group is already

Playing we continue as long as the temperature above 60 I haven’t found that a suit that works for me yet but I’ll say correct Stephen that’s the reason why I like that Sun Mountain one now it’s not going to be air cooled to be sure but it’s made out of that gortex

And it’s at least a little bit breathable I haven’t pulled the trigger on gway Bay but chances are they don’t make my Size Charlie’s playing in a lot of rain if it’s a torrential downpour I don’t play but all of the times yes I wear a rain suit that keeps me dry and a good one costs a bit so don’t cheap out and I would agree again Charlie’s on the right path

Man Charlie you like this one I was on I was in a meeting today and and the talking some leadership stuff and the guy brought in Rick over’s rules for Success so and I was like oh okay well I’ve heard a few of those there’s Stephen talking again everybody’s talking with

Robin there you go okay Phil K from Austin how are you buddy played in the Del Saturday putting a ball through an inch of water takes an extra long stroke yeah so were you the guy that we saw on there I saw a somebody on Instagram was playing around

And it was in the big rain and there was a big old puddle and this guy took what look appeared to be a pretty decent stroke and he couldn’t have been I don’t know three four foot from the hole maybe and it went six Ines and he reared back on that thing

And just clobbered it and it barely it rolled just on the other side of the cup I mean if you would have hit that for real the thing would have went 40 yards they went four feet yeah that it’ll get you Matt High guys Peter he’s in South

Carolina and Myrtle Beach played on Saturday shot of 75 good for you sir all right there’s it here’s a new one alron Busby how you doing sir glad to see you make it in hopefully I said that right great round Peter is that your new iron of your

Sons it’s a pain in the butt everybody knowing what’s going on is it that’s a good one he says I have two zero reection gortex and I want I want a new dry Joy oh okay cool dry Joy be probably be pretty good too I’d imagine Hammer speaking of bad behavior

Let’s talk about Kel his bad temper tantrum he really had enough uh really had enough of that guy and his girlfriend yeah Kelsey was in that he was extraordinarily frustrated I don’t think we’ll ever get the the real story of what was said between the two in

Order to keep things calmed down uh I’m not so certain what you know other than Taylor Swift brings a lot of attention with her uh and I know she knows that but you know know they always they’re always panning up to see her I don’t you know I I don’t see that

Being a problem as long as she’s not there you know saying hey watch my concerts or anything like that if she’s there being a spectator then okay fine you know and the funny part was is that you had the likes of Beyonce and Jay-Z and a and a handful of what can be

Considered some very popular artists up there and she was the one stealing the show from all of them uh which is which I thought was kind of funny uh but uh as long as she’s you know being there being The Spectator like he goes and be a spectator at the

Other one and when he goes to her places I don’t see it being a problem now what got really sticky Hammer is that Miss mcgl and I said let’s do the Taylor Swift drinking game and every time that she got showed on TV we had to do one of

These that that was a strategic error wo we was it good that Andy Reid laughed it off or was it disrespectful in need of punishment or suspension I would have to say Matt and I think hammer and I are in the same boat with this one it depend on what he

Was doing if he was just frustrated at the fact that he wasn’t getting the ball and he was trying to air it out with Andy Reid then okay but if he was trying to get after him for not play calling something and it was you know trying to

Call him on his call it’s time to sit down hey Mr Steve bird how are you from Yorkshire I played a lot of rugby in my younger days and really enjoyed the Super Bowl great game as for golf balls I’ve been using the Wilson Duo ball as

My swing is slowed you know the Wilson Duo is not a bad ball right it is a it it is a bad it’s not a bad ball at all it’s one of you know for a soft ball perspective you know one of my my favorites are that one the super soft

From Callaway I think that’s one of their more highly rated ones and then if I had to pick a third one I believe the soft field is right up there with them I know there’s more others out there but those are the ones that I would pick and

They’re not bad I mean they’re very well constructed they they tend to get out there and if you’re a person that enjoys color they’ve got plenty of those as well Charlie says he’s got a zero restriction but the sizing is tight in the jacket since I’ve gotten oh since then he’s got

A sise I’ve got a I had a uh a windbreaker from them that was kind of nice fit on the spot water beads off there you go sise is that they’re from France I believe all right Mike delvesco what is meant by terminology of single or double

Stepping of shafts when Sha crafting a club okay so when you typically build a golf club right when you typically build a golf club you have five iron shaft goes into a five iron head seven iron shaft goes into a seven iron head okay now when you’re talking about hard

Stepping you are going to take the seven iron shaft and and if you hard step once you’re going to take that seven iron and you’re going to put it into the six iron you’re going take that six iron put in the five iron five iron in the four all

The way up so you’re taking the smaller shaft and putting it into the bigger Club head that would be hard stepping pardon me soft stepping on the other hand is just exactly the opposite it’s taking that six iron shaft and putting in a seven iron head seven iron

Shaft eight iron and so on down that way now when they double that what that means is that they’re making two steps so from a seven to a five or from a five to a seven now what that typically does when you soft most people tend to soft

Step and what that does is it softens the flex by about a third for each step so you could get that but when you do that you have to be very cognizant of the length Okay very cognizant of the length and because if you they’re already pre-cut because I’ve seen guys

Do this and they get caught they’ll get this used set of shafts off of eBay or whatever and they’ll think oh I’ll just soft step it oh that’s great and then they then they put the grips on without realizing they just made the club either a half an inch long or a

Half an inch short and don’t understand why they’re not hitting it as well and it’s because it’s the wrong length okay and so you got to be you got to understand that part part of it as well all you’re doing is softening it now there will be some debate as to well it

Make make it hit higher make it hit lower I would say to a very small extent because we’re just taking we’re talking about a third of a flex all right so you’re going to get a third amount of change so if you’re hitting it you know

And I don’t think it’s linear either so if you’re hitting it up high you’re going to get that much change in it as well now it might feel softer and that’s what you’re looking for or firmer and that’s what you’re looking for for that matter and that would be even better there we

Go yeah Charlie I know I I love rework like uh taking a finger like ripping off a fingernail the uh I’m not sure what happened because you know when you mess up a feral normally that belt will move one way or to another and you’re just grinding in there and and that wasn’t

What was happening it was just moving and all of a sudden I just caught it out of my eye that something looked funny as it was coming around and it was just this gouge and uh I was like nope that done with that so I took that belt off

And it still had a lot of life left in it but if it’s going to do that it’s gone and I put a new one on there and it was like two two two went through the rest of the set in no time flat so I’m trying to figure out why that failed

Peter he’s saying he used his gen fives I will never see the Rons [Laughter] again the question is how did he like his how did he like his Christmas present also good news oh hey Peter’s gonna be a grandpa way to go man congrats well done that’s a good

Feeling kind of figure out since you play so well with him that is a fact too Peter saying congrats to being a grandpa to Peter how are you that’s very cool there’s Kent how are you sir glad to see you in and Kent is giving the thumbs up for

The sise gear hopefully I’m saying that right sunis or sunice is Kent pass my Prime is back in the House all right here we go saying hi to Robin here we go Steve molsby how are you buddy have you compared the 790s to the Costco no I have not number one Steve there’s no Costco around me for at least an hour to an hour and a halfs worth of

A drive I live in a rural area and Columbus is about an hour just to get to the border and then it’s another half an hour to get wherever I need to go in there and I haven’t seen them but I imagine that they’re only right-handed

And it won’t work for me now you you know when the internet was all just a buzz with this somebody had cut the cut the clubs off to see what the differences were and the inside of them were significantly different uh from the from the goo that was in the

790 to the big wide opening that was in the Costco now knowing what little bit of Club design that I know is that if if I saw that and I I had not seen the first strike or anything personally I would have to think that that the Costco iron may hit a

Little bit higher and maybe spend a just a little bit more and that’s because when you see all the cut out of it there’s this ball of weight on the bottom where on the on the ti list it is very much distributed now the other part of this

Is is that tailor maid puts that goo behind the that face because it’s so thin okay and there wasn’t any in the other one which would lead you to believe that they have to make it at least thick enough to be durable enough so that people aren’t bringing them back

So they might lose a little bit of spring meaning that their ball speed will certainly go down so there you know and now by how much I couldn’t tell you but that from just a design perspective and what I saw that’s what I would think and then the last bit of it is

What they chose to put in them uh I’ve heard tell of dgs I’ve heard tell of kbs’s I’m just not sure Charlie saying to Ken he’s still searching for them winter shorts haven’t found a pair to match the 30° [Laughter] temps K oh here we come it says you guys

Really don’t really have decent wet weather gear because you’re scared of melting in the [Laughter] rain I will never ever in my entire life say somebody from the UK is not Hardy due to that weather I’ll bet Kent has rain shorts as well as winter ones there we

Go pass my Prime Robin the grip lady do you ever get grips that just don’t want to go on uh installed a set of mcc’s this weekend and ended up having to heat them to get them on without a fight really uh right I you gripped them all with I

Gripped another set with dry tax with no issue at all well so Robin’s probably more qualified to do this she puts on more grips than I do however I will say that uh from an MCC point of view I’ve never had an issue with them going on now what I have had

In the past and it was a very distant past is that the butt section would want to rotate it would want to rotate so it go like this and I had to Lance the grip somehow an air bubble would get trapped in there as soon as I lanced it it

Clamped right down and it worked fine uh but it I’m not sure why that was that and the cp2 gave me heartache everyone but not so much anymore now again in the past the dry tacks uh those those used to be my Nemesis because the under listing was

So thin that if you had and that’s the reason why I always sand off the edges is because the under listing would catch that those rough edges and it would grab them and the under listing would tear and then all of a sudden it starts rolling up underneath and it creates

This ball underneath there well that grip is shot they not getting that one back and but that has not been an issue in a long long long time time now I’ve taken strides where I I sand off the edge of the butt section after I’ve cut

It in order to make sure that the edges are smooth and in order to make that work but not mcc’s not not yet all right Taylor Maid is now suing Costco yep They’re copying the 790s uh all they’ve seen is what’s on the internet Steve that’s about it

I know right nisms that’s a fact I had that happened too but different brands have happened over the years there we go that wasn’t that wasn’t us but it was like it was yeah RSG how do you Jim and Rob St Louis I do like that picture that is very cool

Watch the wasted golf management Hoffman did great for a 47y old yeah I’m just trying I’m like I’m glad he showed up right and got came back and got it had that three shot lead played like he knew what he was doing hey good for him you

Being a way and he’s still I assume that he’s still being sponsored by Waste Management so that’s a twofer you know they got their sponsored guy on the front make it’ll make for some seriously good advertising Warren’s Golf Tiger this week draws a crowd helps the PGA Tour yeah there’s yeah everything you

Just said is 100% correct uh I don’t I don’t I see all the there’s like banners floating around with him looking down and says tiger Roars or something along that lines and uh I’m glad I’m glad he’s back I’m hopefully he’s 100% hopefully he can play

Um I know he wants to come back and be competitive if you just watch him I mean that’s what he’s there for um but I think enough guys have been out there long enough that have played when he wasn’t there that that Mystique when he shows

Up may not be nearly as tight as it once was certainly he is very very popular and certainly he is very very accomplished but now with all these Young Guns out there that saw him as a you know looked up to him as they playing yeah we’ll see how that works

Out he’s going to he’ll knock off some Rust to be sure but uh I think it’ll be good and it’s good for the game because people like to watch him all right imagine Taylor Made litigating against anyone in the history of their copying other designs Kettle call in the frying pan

Grimy yeah oh yeah well that was the uh I mean most people have forgotten them already but um if you go back and went Adams Golf right Adams Golf they were the ones that had the the speed slots they were the ones that had the Innovation for the speed slot and Taylor

Maid had one not only on the bottom but had one on the top for that one of the years that they had it and so Adams went well hey thanks for using our technology we’re going to sue you for $50 million and Taylor Made was it was a

Powerhouse at the time you know that was the era of the of the White driver right it was the area of the White driver and they got through there and they uh got around the board section they said well we could either pay this bill for 50 million or we could just buy

Him for 70 and then not have to worry about it so they bought him for 70 and now you don’t see Adams Golf anymore all right average viewership for the NFL weekend was something around 60 million Taylor add 9% of the viewership the NFL could never grow if

They that much if they tried I know right they brought brought all those kids with them just so they could spy Spy a little bit of Taylor Swift it is it is oh Kent we in Yorkshire is it Yorkshire or Yorkshire Yorkshire we the biggest and the best

Had to chug a bottle CU it just wouldn’t had to stop they never you know from what I saw but in the beginning it wasn’t too bad but it did make for some fun I will say that oh they showed her oh gotta drink one oh they showed her we gotta drink

One so that that was pretty fun he was yelling at Reed not to rotate him out aha okay okay Kelsey was mugged like San Francisco Homeland person at the line that was a good one there I am not much of a San Francisco fan and it’s not

Because of any of the players that are currently on there uh I’ve just never been a San Francisco fan but uh but I’ve always been a Chiefs fan and uh so I had one on each side right the Chiefs on one side Vikings on the other and in order

To have somebody to root for and uh so I’m obviously I’m living like hey the team won although I will have to say I got to come clean is the super Super Bowl was the first professional football game I’ve seen this whole entire year Robin talking to
