I’ve said this on a few different interviews that I really don’t think I would have won the US Open if I didn’t win um didn’t win at quill Hollow and so Quil Hollow to me was almost a bigger hurdle for me in my career and mentally
Than it was the US Open um because I learned so much to myself that day you know I started off with a bogey then hit it you know right on whole two um on Sunday then missed the green left and then had a great up and down and you
Know I had a two- shot lead and went to one and then Zander it goes to all square and I think in the past I would have gotten ahead of myself and I probably would have shot an even par one over and you know you lose by one or two
And you just look at yourself and you’re pissed and you know still great finish and everyone’s like oh great finish you’re close but I learned so much in that and I dug deep and I didn’t get ahead of myself and I just continued to stay within my process and then you know
Then I had a four shot lead with five six holes to go and then it was found myself in like you know don’t screw up mode and and what was great and I really was proud of myself is I kept making birdies I was like hey just stick with
What we’ve been doing all week and um so I think that really helped me going into the US Open and I found myself a three shot lead with four holes to go and granted I you know that it’s the first time all week that I really checked the leaderboard and really thought about
Winning truthfully like obviously at night you do but during the round it’s the first time I ever thought about it was when I birdied 14 and then cuz it was funny cuz I I birdied it and then I looked and I saw saw Rory like watching
To see if I made the putt like afterwards he was kind of looking he goes okay made birdie and and and then I looked and I looked over the score and I was like oh my gosh I got a three shot lead and I kind of just I kind of you
Know fantasized about the win and then I came back and had the easiest wed shot in the world make a bogey and then that’s honestly it might have been the be one of the best things for me cuz then I got refocused cuz I was like all
Right like we’re not going to be the person that blows a three shot lead with four holes to go and then I got right back into it yeah I B the next hole but I hit three really good shots um and then I had played whole 17 grade and 18
And so I really do think that win at Quil Hollow was the reason um that I won the US Open so I actually would say it was tougher for me at Quail than it was at the US Open
