Teams going at it Vegas is the defending Stanley Cup champions they don’t want another team to walk into their house and and then break a or tie a record that is incredible record so I I I will say no I don’t believe that the the break affected this game what do you see

St I don’t think so because I feel the orders actually played pretty well in this game like I thought they you know maybe a little bit of rust here and there but I thought that they played pretty good I thought they seemed to have their hands they certainly had

Their work ethic like I I it it didn’t feel to me like they’d skipped a whole bunch of Beats you know and and Vegas had had a break too and so I I I’m not going to allow that to be an excuse I will say it is unfortunate timing

Definitely unfortunate timing that you got this nday break before you get a chance to tie a league record not ideal but the other side of the conversation is that the schedule makers I mean the orders have had a pretty reasonable schedule here for a little while and quality of competition travel-wise like

The schedule set up for them to go on a little bit of a run like this so the schedule giveth and the schedule take away sometimes stry does this does the streak really matter if they won or lost tonight I I don’t know if it really mattered it

Mattered maybe in the record books didn’t but for this team this year I don’t think it really matters and Matas at post game spoke a little bit about it said he’s actually glad it’s over he did say that I’m kind of happy and he wasn’t being like nasty to

The media or anything like he just said I don’t need to talk about anymore like it it really doesn’t matter and that’s that’s kind of what I tend to agree with him it’s it’s really neat and I love talking it’s neat to follow and for us for fans it’s neat

Playing fantastic hockey so I think like I watched some of the post game tonight and we’ll get to the whis Johnson soundbox in just a minute here I don’t think the players are super bummed about this streak I think they’re pissed they gave two points to Vegas

Yeah and Conor McDavid talks about that he said you know we’re you know may we might look back on the streak one day but right now we’re mad that we lost or or or we left two points out there and you know Mark Spectre he’s he’s a great

Reporter and he’s you know he’s he’s asked a lot of good questions over his time but say he asked the guys you know did you did you feel like you ran out of luck and so I’m not here to beat up on spec we we’re friends but the point is

That I I believe when you run that long and play that well for that long I don’t think that luck really comes into it I I think what it is is that you’re doing the right thing night after night after night because you can play badly and get

Lucky for a few games but you can’t play Get Lucky and you know to to run that long you have to win you have to play well for a long time yeah and and the margins of Victory really tight and there’s some games where it was a lot

Tighter than others for theaters but they the way that they played the way that they kept other teams at Bay kept the shots down you know the way Skinner played I don’t want to Tribute that that to luck I think it’s actually unfair to the team to say they played well they

Played really well let’s just say that they they would have won five in a row lost one five in a row lost one then you know five in a row like does it change does it make it make it more lucky again so again this isn’t a shot at spec it’s

I’ve heard this from friends and other people outside the market I I don’t I don’t don’t really like the idea of luck involved in a in a in good wellplayed hockey shoger yeah no and that’s a fair point and I mean listen I’ve I’ve been in that situation a hundred times where

Sure you’re just needing the players to talk about what happened and you know sometimes it’s funny it’s like we’re we’re not necessarily professional question askers we’re professional answer Getters right you ask questions in a way where you want to just get a good answer right and so but what now

Because all these questions are all broadcast live you know every single question is now out there to be critiqued and and that’s part of the job it’s it’s not an issue I think the point that Speck was making was there were a lot of really tight games and there were

A lot of games in this streak recently where the ERS probably won when maybe they weren’t the better team or they kind of squeezed one out or maybe they put together like seven or eight good minutes right I think we would agree that towards a tail end of this streak

There were games where it was like yeah they they’re figuring out ways but they definitely didn’t bring their aame for 60 minutes and I think Spec’s point is eventually you’re going to run out of road to keep having that happen I think that’s the point there and I do agree

With that you know basic notion the orders aren’t they haven’t been crushing it start to finish and destroying teams every night there have been some tight games and some teams that have pushed them and and it hasn’t all been beautiful nor should it be um but but

That CC uh over over kind of he he he committed too far down below the net or they both did and then it left the high guy and that’s you talk about this you know the guy that’s not is going to score isn’t the one with the puck behind

The net it’s the guy behind you and it’s very hard and I got burned by that too so I’m not talking like a Mr Perfect but you know you got to look around and and one of the two of them have to look around and figure out okay well there’s

Two of us on one guy that means someone else is open guess who it is the guy that scores the goal man I thought defensively this was just I thought it was a great game so so many good chances were broken up by by guys busting their

Asses back on the back check at both ends of the there was one sequence where it was like Oiler great chance at one end but uh back Checker got a stick on it puck goes up the other way two onone back jaer comes back and breaks it up

Like or gets a uh you know gets a stick on a shot and deflects it over the net a lot of the best chances tonight were styed by great defensive efforts and this was a low-scoring grinding playoff Style game where that D and that commitment to D was kind of on display

By both teams for large portions yeah it was it was good and the orders have moved much closer to the way the Vegas plays as far as their their their their dedication to playing good dzone now you’re going to have breakdowns so you know I’m just critical of CCE there I

Mean it’s going to happen you know eventually something’s going to happen you just hope that it doesn’t happen as often as the other team so you look over seven game series if the olders roll in and play that style of game for seven games against Vegas can they win it I i’

Take my chances I would take my chances that they would win it uh in that situation yeah what do you think of Conor McDavid tonight finishes with eight shots on net I mean I thought the details in his game were fabulous tonight at both ends of

The ice I mean he can’t comes out wins the opening draw and then goes goes on to win eight of the 11 that he took seemed to me like the captain did what he could he was flying the guy was fired up he he he’s he’s playing so well now

The points aren’t necessarily pouring in like we’ve seen in the past but he’s playing so well he’s in the right place more often than not I will say this so this is a bit of a broader discussion Vegas loves to sit on the what I’ll call

Their five on the die so if you can picture this it’s 2D in front a center then two forward it’s kind of top of the circles and they just sit there and we saw a lot of it tonight where Connor’s circling around the net and around the

Top and around or Hyman’s going the other way or or the pastes are going around that five of the die and Vegas is very happy they sit back and they’re like hey we’ll let you guys pass around and it feels like you’re getting a lot done but you’re not getting that much

Done because we’re kind of controlling the the middle part of the ice so find the Oilers was specifically Chris noblock I’m going to go and review that tape and take a look and see how or which way you attack that to try to get more chances unfortunately when they’re

Sitting through like that you can try to zimit through the the the bo or the the five on the die to try to get some easier shots on the other side but honestly shocker I think you got to get in the muck and you gotta fight in front

Of that net you got to grind and get ugly goals because they’re just they were sitting they I in the last number of I to say 10 games that’s the most I’ve seen the old is kind of work it around that five on the die and it feels

Like you’re in the offensive zone a lot but not necessarily getting a ton done where’s your level of concern with the power play they’ve been able to win games despite the power play being middling but I think we know the key to success for this team is to just murder

Teams that take penalties against them I mean when you get to playoff time that power play you just want it to be clicking you want it to be weapon you want it to be devastating when the other team takes a penalty so they either have

To play off you a little bit so that they don’t um or you can just crush them where’s your level of concern at with what you’re seeing well they had two was it two power plays I believe tonight if I if I remember correctly couple yeah I

Think they had a couple and you know you could have Manny could have used one tonight could have used a power play tonight now on the flip side the penalty kill continues to roll uh all along in fact they were a short handed goal tonight so they’re actually plus one in

In the peny kill department so I’m not going to say I’m concerned about the penley kill or power play they were 0 for one tonight by the way oh only had one on the game sheet here yeah okay um yeah so you know so they

Have one well I guess that one may was nullified because they got a penalty right away but either way they they need to find they they the other teams are adjusting to them they’re not leaving them open as much we can see what they’re trying to do cut away that that

Middle pass in you know that goes cross ice but they they need to find a way to to have a little success now they are still a pretty decent top power play I think they’re though they’re inside the top 10 I haven’t looked in since tonight

But it would be nice if they could just get on a bit of a heater there because tonight man one power play goal a that’s a 2-1 game probably has a different feel uh at the end than does right now leaky 37 says power play is still too cute

Ryan Smith’s snows says too many cheeky passes on the power play the Dr karpie says time to change things up I said this a month ago uh EV up which way not Personnel yeah I’m not I’m not sure if if that’s in refence or yeah maybe

Buddy eckol and not that eom’s unskilled but I mean the shots aren’t the same and I I can think of a couple times where you know he beats the first guy quick little tow drke oh who’s the next guy it’s his next his name is poke check and

Just poke check the puck off your stick so you know he’s got to figure out you know what do I do if I don’t have a shot can I just slide six inches to one way and fired by a wrist shot just to get it

To the net and you know it goes back to what I was talking earlier how do you break down that five on the die you know how do you make them struggle and feel stress in that situation because the reason they’re in that is they’re just

They’re kind of lulling you to sleep and just let you kind of have your your your way but you’re really not having your way because you’re really not attacking so how can buard find a way to get pucks to the net not get blocked but all the

Across the Blue Line little hesitate little drag Little Feather pass through to Evander Kane that ended up leading leading to an Oiler power play there on the slashing call that I mean we talk about him needing to improve his hands after last season he’s not making that play last year from a confidence

Standpoint or a hand standpoint he’s not even trying that last year yeah you know I think it was Greg Jason Gregor from Sports 1440 that had a I think he had an article about what he talked about what his trainer did in the summer and I

Pretty well and the orders didn’t have enough and Vegas was short-handed struds should that change the sense of urgency or the feeling of how much Firepower the orders need to be bringing in here well it’s a good point and it’s you know it’s something that um I think

You do have to factor in when you look at this this loss or or what if it would have been a win but to me tonight the ERS look very fast they looked much faster faster than Vegas now Jack Kel is I wouldn’t say he’s a super fast player

Um yeah he is you think he’s super fast I think Jack E’s a phenomenal skater he’s he’s not as fast he’s not as Speedy I think he’s got fantastic top speed yeah really 100% yeah see I I see him more as a guy that likes to slow the

Game down I don’t I don’t see a guy who’s all about Tempo yeah uh but either way he a great skater how’s that whether well they’re all pretty good skater but yeah but then and then Theodore again I think he’s another guy that likes to slow the game down as well now that

Doesn’t mean they’re slow but you know some people play with temple there’s on it Nathan McKinnon he’s with temple he’s always attacking he’s always playing with temple M ransin I think he likes to slow the game down a bit so there’s a little bit different thing so I think dos would still

Be what to me would look like the faster team even with both those guys in the lineup yeah but you’re probably talking about a number one defenseman a number one Center so that’s a pretty big deal to have that in there y um so you know I

Think the olders carried a bulk of the plates tonight they could have won I think aen Hill had a great game I think that their defensive structure made frustrated the ERS made it hard for them to get inside it so that’s again this is up to the coaching staff to break that

What what do you do to break that um and if they can break that I think they can figure out kind of how to break him even with eel and uh theore in the lineup so moves made around the NHL the last last week some other Canadian teams you know

Making some moves we’ll get a little bit into the results that uh the flames and knocks the early returns that they’re getting here but they get ahead of the game right they go out and they they spend their assets and they get ahead of the game they feel the needs that they

Know they have um I still think that Ken Hall I don’t think Ken Hall will wait to the trade deadline I think he’ll still get ahead of it a little bit similar to how we did last year um but you know I do think it’s important that they don’t

Allow this streak to Cloud their judgment about what they are in the big picture and I think games like tonight I think you need to pay attention to games like tonight I really do I don’t read too much into it or go crazy over it but

I mean you know Boren Fogle as a top six forward uh in the third round of the playoffs I’m just not sure it’s there and that’s no disrespect to him he’d be a hell of a third line player so I I feel like that need is definitely there
