Down there and what I also love the amount of families that are all jam-packed in here yeah the atmosphere is electric we can see the surfing behind us it’s nonstop we’re obviously in a swimming pool totally changes the format to what any hardcore Sur fans normally used to it is just wave after
Wave after wave the average takes 10 minutes well Chris tell us about what the difference is between surfing in the pool cuz as we know this is a man-made event swimming in the pool surfing in the pool versus surfing in the ocean well I think the analogy we’re using
Before for any Cricket fans to be like the difference between test cricket and 2020 a lot of the pauses are taken out it’s just non-stop action uh a lot of the variables are taken out obviously you’re not dealing with Mother Nature so you get your opportunity the waves right
There and it’s up to you to capitalize and of course more drama as a result nonstop I mean you have to keep up with what’s going on because we we’ve just been you know talking amongst ourselves for the last five minutes and I’ve Just Seen Sheldon simus who would have been
One of the favorites has just been bounced out um so you have to stay on top of the action or else you’re not going to keep up well you’ve already been out in the water today so tell us about first of all what it was like out
There because you’ve got the best spot of the entire day because it is hot out here you’ll be in the water you’ll be right where all the action’s happening in that first hand you’ll be a to interview all of surface and give us all of the live feedback of what’s happening
Out there it is absolutely the best seat in the house um it is boiling hot here today the water is just bathtub warm and perfect um sitting right in amongst the competitors they’re a little bit more relaxed because the variable of Mother Nature has been removed so you know

Hopefully the afternoon lives up to uh all the hype that we’ve been feeding at Jess yeah it’s been an amazing day too I mean perfect day for Jamie to come down blue skies fun little wave pool events so yeah I’m loving it for Jamie the ladies have been uh doing their PR
Rounds on the left the men on the right what what have you been liking out of the women this morning yeah I’ve been keeping a pretty close eye on them so far someone who’s really standing out to me and I’m loving seeing them back in
The rashy is Nikki van djk you know I watched up I watched her growing up my whole life and yeah she’s amazing I love her back end a lot of her career she did well on her back end so it’s sick to see her on the left can’t wait to see her on
The right but then you can’t really go past well Junior champ Sierra Kerr she’s just incredible she locked in two nines in a previous heat so I’m excited to see her get a little bit more Progressive when we see her move to the right a little bit later on is that what makes
Her so good that variety I would say so and I think you know when you look at the boys they’re really bringing so much variety to their game and to their competition so seeing someone like Sierra who has such a big bag of tricks then move to the for her forehand on the
Right I think she’s going to be pretty Unstoppable here yeah I’d have to agree she’s going to be lethal the men have been on the right or morning and we’re going to move into the finals this afternoon with the men Joe vaugh and Dakota have been shown some incredible
Variety on the wave it’s going to be interesting to see how they go in their next couple of rounds they’ve certainly got a lot of reps under their belts now Jess but uh for the meantime we’re going to send it back to you uh Chris and Jamie looking forward to the show
Absolutely so we’re rolling on into the men’s quarterfinals we got some big names coming up Alis reinado Justin mcet is an interesting character in today’s event because he’s a Frenchman uh he’s been over here in Australia for about a month he can’t actually Garner any qualification series points here so he’s
Purely here for for the uh the love of the sport we saw him skipping down there just before so looks like he’s getting ready forious yeah absolutely now one of the other features of today we have a celebrity event I want to get your thoughts because these boys were out
Here yesterday they were training so we’ve got Nick blon from Richmond and Tyran wishart from the Melbourne storm so it’s pretty much a battle of the codes and a battle of the states going head-to-head later today it is wishart grew up on the south coast of New South
Wales whereas uh I believe Loston lives in t these days maybe both passionate Surfers um so we’re going to see a little bit of a Victoria New South Wales Showdown as well as the NRL AFL Showdown both these guys uh came out yesterday for practice session they’re both mad
Dedicated Surfers and I think there’s going to be a lot on the line uh during that celebrity bout well a lot it’s on the line how nervous do you think they are I reckon this would be comparable to you know an early final maybe not quite a grand final but definitely they’ll be
Nervous I when I was in the water before and you could see the Spectators on the wall they’re only a few feet away from you it’s uh definitely a different environment especially for the Surfers um who are used to competing way out to see you know just themselves their
Thoughts and a competitor right there you’re just right next to the fans and it’s it’s really cool different element well it’s certainly one of the many things to look forward to this afternoon is all part of our coverage we’ll take a very quick break here and on the other
Side it’s all the qualifying Action yeah this place is amazing I won this event last year so yeah I’m super excited to be back this year and hopefully you can back it up again oh I looked at the heat draw earlier today it’s so stacked um names like Ellie Harrison Nicki vank and yeah all the
Girls are suring so good so I’m super Excited down know Run game ch game all right Dakota Walters two I’m down here with Scott from skin tech Champions who partners with L Ro pay they’re down here giving up free sunscreen today and Rumor Has It free skin checks too that’s right Jesse and we have found quite a few skin cancers
Already um we’re so stoked to be here this is our third year I think at Urban Surf and our second year with this comp and um it’s so good to see all the Surfers coming in getting checked um cuz they’re actually a lot more at risk than your average
Aussie and tell me you guys are running this for a couple months now give me a little bit more insight into skin tech Champions and what you guys actually do there so um we’ve teamed up with L P for the last few years and we’ve been doing
Pop-up skin check clinics like this one all around the country targeting high-risk communities and uh I think so far we’ve done over 8,000 skin checks we’ve found several thousand potential skin cancers and a couple hundred melanoma which is like a serious amount of lives saved um a reent study came out
That over six times surface is six times more likely to get skin cancer and a reent study came out saying they’re 120 times more likely to get skin cancer so we’re seeing the numbers when they come in so we’re really lucky to be here and it really makes a big impact well you
Heard it here first guys wear your sunscreen and get your skin checked yeah I’m super excited I’ve never done like a proper I’ve done stab high in a wayo before but I’ve never done like a real contest in a wave pool so it’ll be cool it’s kind of good cuz
It like shows you’re surfing a lot yeah it be different it’s good cuz I feel like catching waves is the hardest part of the contest so you’re gifted them here so that’ll be perfect I started surfing cuz my dad dad is a professional Surfer and he’d always put me on like
The front of his board when I was little and then he’d push me into waves when I was younger so yeah that’s kind of how it started we just love surfing together cuz like it’s the best thing ever sharing waves with your dad and just pushing each other it’s so fun I’m just
Like I’m competitive in pretty much anything like I’ve done skate comps golf rugby so like anything that has to do with a comp I want to win and yeah it’s just so fun um seeing how you go in a comp cuz it’s like a different type of
Mindset I have a bunch of friends in this comp so anytime get to go against them it’s like the best thing ever cuz you’re competing with your friend but like sharing ways it’s so sick welcome back to the byd pro at Urban surf presented by Rip Curl and pirate
Life beer and yes it’s a fantastic day for a pirate Life beer isn’t it oh it’s absolutely beautiful out there I mean warm weather Crystal Clear Blue Skies I’d be pretty excited to drink one of those right now you’re duw you just came from getting uh the uh the sunscreen
Activation straight into the booth you’ve had a uh you’ve had a busy morning and it’s uh it’s a good place to be busy day of the year in Victoria I’m calling it’s certainly been a short year but uh wouldn’t want to be anywhere else I think we’ve brought the the Gold Coast
Northern New South Wales weather with us but uh if you just tuned in we’ve had a massive day of preliminary round action and we are watching live the quarterfinals we are down to the man-on-man action it’s Dakota Walters versus Al alist reinado to the standout
So far in this event as you see Dakota Walters up and riding he has been on fire all event one of the Surfers that’s been showing insane Variety in his surfing as we see here incredible way to start the action these Surfers will ride four waves in their opening round and
Uh only count two so as you can see they Dakota showing a lot of risk and he looks a little uh confused as to what’s going on here and I can understand why the size of that wave did look a little smaller to what we had been warming up
On earlier in the day so we’ll uh we’ll Rectify that in a moment but uh in the meantime Jess the replay can show Dakota’s incredible variety here yeah I’ve got to say he’s probably one of my favorite Surfers to watch and this wave even though it was smaller it could just
Displays the most incredible surfing beautiful roundhouse carve there gets back up there for the fins but this is that next turn that I really love that we’ve seen him make for most of the day unfortunately yeah just burying the nose there at the end but yeah you can see
He’s a little bit confused as well but I’m sure as the heat goes on we’ll see those waves ran back up a little bit more oh well I guess the only thing that matters is if alist gets the same size waves yes as we’ll see here we got another set
Breaking out the back here and it will be alist regin’s turn there’s no priority in this event like a regular surf comp as we see alist wave here up and riding Sensational first turn and uh his big strong lad from the sunny coast and I’m sure his brother and Mom and Dad
Are tuning in so get out of those guys as Alistair has uh made light work of his first attempt there and uh you will see only one Surfer ride each set so I guess uh you know J the benefit of that is it’s all about performance this
Afternoon here yeah I was talking to a lot of uh the competitors down there earlier just thinking wow I feel like I’d be feeling so much pressure I’ll get back to that because here’s the replay that first wave of Alistar was just insane second turn there that third one
He’s just got so much power so much style he’s trying to qualify for the Challenger Series for the first time this year so you can see he’s really pushing himself to the absolute limit really really beautiful first wave there from Alistar but yeah you know he’s just
A Powerhouse and definitely one of the best Surfers coming out of the sunny Coast right now yeah without a doubt you can see the different little contingents getting around the comp it’s an awesome atmosphere here like there’s not many events around the world might just listen to the onside announcer here just to
See you see Dakota here he’s really got to keep his wits about him obviously that first wave was a little smaller than what he’s expect but we’re back to regular programming here and this is a uh this is the wave that we wanted to see Dakota on as we saw Alice’s wave was
A lot taller as is this wave for ders and you can see The Sensational zap in his surfing as he’s uh he’s done well to just compose himself there and uh again get to the end of that wave you can see the frustration but uh just one of those
Things J we are in a a fairly controlled environment but it’s still not an exact science here in the pool you will get varieties in the wave and Dakota’s just got to brush that one off we can see he’s uh obviously packs full of talent this kid could win this comp many ways
Yeah here’s the replay of that last one but I just feel like the pressure was definitely building for Dakota beautiful slowmo there I just love you know his flow between turns yeah it’s incredible but I just feel like the pressure would really built you know if you didn’t
Perform on that first wave you know you have to do it on your second or your third or your fourth I don’t know I feel like I’d be definitely more nervous to Surf a way pull event than I would be an ocean event I can totally understand
Where you’re coming from there Jess but also at the same time you know you’re going to get the opportunity so the pressure it’s not external it’s all internal these kids they’re going to get their chance uh as we’ve seen it here um it’s one of those things like you you
Know there’s definitely pressure but it’s a different type of pressure I think everyone you know they always talk about oh if I get the opportunity I’ll do really well well here today everyone’s going to get their chance yeah exactly it’s equal opportunity you can see yeah Dakota kind of putting his
Hands up in the air a little bit confused right right now uh but with a surfer of his talent I really don’t think he has too much to worry about if he gets himself on one of those better ways I can tell you right now Dakota alist doesn’t care mate so he
Can tell your story it’s in the other direction but this is the thing I reckon Dakota has the Firepower to to do it on these next two waves and you know Alice is a great Surfer but his first wave there’s a 65 Dakota’s been putting up
Eights all day so Dakota just needs to keep his head in the game here and these two guys the scores that we’ve seen open up here I’d be very surprised if they’ be holding on to either two of them um you know by the end well like you just
Said it’s the the issues competitors will have out there today will only be internal so understand that Dakota feels like he’s kind of drawn the Short Straw right now but if he can just push through and find I guess that inner confidence again that we’ve seen him
Have all day all he has to do is do it on the next two ways you know what this reminds me of it reminds me of someone when they get an interference at the start of a heat you know CU there is that that was outside of Dakota’s
Control but there’s no way we could sugar coat that Dakota’s first wave was a lot smaller and you know we are working with a amazing machinery and Technology here but uh just unfortunately for whatever reason uh okay someone’s left a dog in their car so uh if anyone that’s done that
Here we go I can see C Bell Warren frantically running around the event site with song on head and Beads of sweat dripping everywhere um and it’s all good we we’ll figure these things out but I I do think that uh between what we’ve seen to start here and what
We’ll see to finish is uh potentially might change but both of these Surfers have uh has rid two waves Al’s rid one all right so we’re just going to go on a short hold here you will see a wave roll through uh without any Surfers on
It and uh again it’s all part of the fun games Jess isn’t it surf contests they’re they’re a wonderful wonderful thing to be a part of and they aid you very quickly as especially unique surf contests like this right we don’t even get this absolute like test wave you know in
Competes it’s in the ocean it’s you know what you what you get is what you get they’re actually pushing through waves saying don’t surf these ones guys what a luxury I would love to be on that wave but yeah I mean you know as a you know
Testament to the pool what you can see here is the variety in the technology and what that they’ve managed to to work out here so if you’re just tuning into this event for the first time you don’t have to be a pro Surfer to come here you can surf on the inside
Learning how to serve you can start to step it up and ride the cruiser settings into the intermediate into the advance and then even so you know even some of those tester waves that you seeing R roll through here they’re some of the more uh regular
Sessions that they run out of the pool but definitely what we’re looking here for these competitors today are the waves that edge up more towards that expert level to show you know truly what these men and women are capable of so yeah we’re um extremely confident that
Uh we’ll resolve these issues and these gentlemen can finish out this heat and uh we saw you know some amazing highlights earlier in the day and as we saw that in the earlier package as we opened up this event there’s um many ways Jess that you can get an excellent
Ride out here what what’s been some of your favorites yeah I mean all the men have had such like so much variety especially this guy Dakota Walters we’re going to replay one of his earlier waves beautiful opening first turn there I just love how he surfs his waves the
Pace he surfs his wave I don’t think many other people on the Qs actually have his Tempo that he surfs the waves he does everything less but he does less better yeah it’s a great point and it’s it’s the judges are always looking for too it’s a quality over quantity and
Alist here you can just see there’s you know two beautifully different styles of Surfing going on here and neither one is better than the other I think that’s one of the beautiful things about our sport is you can go about surfing a wave so many different ways and alist there I
Would say probably leans a little more on the on the power base side and Dakota you can see there a lot more radical but uh Chris beans has got a live update for us Chris sure uh SE in the house right here it’s beautiful in the water I’m not
Sure if you guys have got visuals on the top corner of the pool we can see Dakota walers and aliser Ardo sitting next to each other in a pretty heated discussion with Will Hayden Smith from the WSL who’s on the wall right behind them the
Guy next to will is a new position in these wave po events that is Marshall so there’s no priority judge here but there is a judge who sits out on the wall and lets the Surfers knowf timee keeper of sorts and uh the WSL all over the situation that’s going on right
Now and uh Alister and Dakota having a bit of last no doubt are going to be flying into action very shortly you got me there Chris sure do how would you compose yourself in this situation cuz it’s certainly a unique way to start a heat let alone the event we’re in is
Unique enough in itself I don’t think Dakota is composed at the best of times so this shouldn’t really put him too far off kilter um you know he was sort of car caring on like a pork chalk a little bit at the start but you know sometimes
That works in his favor um whereas alist Ard big bro shoulders water off a duck’s back I’m sure yeah I’d be water off a duck’s back too if You’ stood up on two set waves compared to your competitors one and I think it’s funny it’s laid out
That way but no I know what you mean you can uh some competitors you see that don’t you Jess that when they get fired up it’s almost more dangerous oh absolutely when they get angry I feel like you see a little bit more mongr come out in your competitors and it’s I
Mean if you’re in the water surfing at heat you don’t want to see it you know you want to you want them to stay tame you know not mess with your program but I mean I’m hoping this puts a little bit of fire under Dakota’s belly and we see
Him come out and just absolutely I don’t know just go on a heater but this is actually a rematch up between these two guys uh Taiwan semi-finals 5,000 points around on the line and uh Dakota got the jump on Alistair and you know Alistair had been really sticking to his power surfing
That entire event and I think that’s what what got him to the semi-finals where Dakota you know like we’ve touched on he’s so Progressive uh but yeah aliser tried to keep up with Dakota’s progressiveness and unfortunately Dakota just outdid him so I feel like Alis is
Probably come in with a point to prove uh Chris if you can hear me I reckon we get you on one of these waves brother these these perfect little peelers are doing my head in get up there bsy when biny resurfaces we might try and get the message to him we can’t have
These perfect waves going unridden I think you need to pull the stride to wasi and get out the top of the point there bins and get yourself into a nice wave so we’ll we’ll uh we’ll get that communication to Chris as soon as we can but uh Jamie you’re out and about what’s

Of the action in front and as you guys were speaking earlier in the commentary about how amazing this venue is for Surfers that are learning to surf and especially for the youngsters when they can get in here it’s a controlled environment and when I was speaking to
The owner of this which we will have Jimmy on later on in the program but he said because of the controlled environment there’s no things like sharks or the huge waves it’s controlled and it’s a nice way for Surfers to learn how to build their craft like all of you

Can seen the surface warming up on all morning and uh we just had a bit of a false start here this morning Jess well this afternoon I should say time flies when you’re having fun but uh Chris have you got me out there have mate get out
The top of the Peak bro oh I know no now trust me no one’s going to tell you off get up there I want to see you rip one watching some very shreddable looking sort of two three Footers rolling through right now Chris yes get up there
We’ll see how we go no no no no no come on come on come on Jess would you I would I’m take this head head off and get out there absolutely I got to say the last wave pull event I was at was in Korea and it was freezing and snowing
This is very pleasant by comparison this is glorious oh it’s an absolute temperature change for you isn’t it biny I mean freezing cold wave pool to now beautiful Melbourne Urban surf I know exactly where I’d want to be oh yeah and they’ve even flown in some seagulls just
Attention to every detail around here every detail feels like we’re actually at the beach so still waiting to get back under way in this he looking like Dakota finally rolling the dice again on this one good looking wave here he’s got to be happy with this
One yeah gets it up there this has been his best wave yet so far and I just jinxed him so bad I’m so sorry Dakota so was beautiful from start and then just at the end so we’ve just seen the scoreboard go back to zero here and I’m wondering uh
Why that might be just I’m thinking that we might be starting from scratch here yeah I think you’re I think the next set might be live action I think this m wave might have been maybe uh just one for uh Dakota to roll through the motions on
Because uh we have seen some tester waves rolling through and I didn’t really hear an official siren or anything can certainly see what toota is capable of a beautiful rail surfing Bo looking Sensational under his feet as he uh makes his way through that wave Jess as we uh can see Alistair patiently
Waiting at the back we’re going to let this wave roll through we will Surf and as you can hear oh Surfer in blue first that’s kind of heavy cuz he just burned his legs out on that last wave but I guess that’s his fault I feel like he probably uh just
Got to a point he was like I’m not watching these waves roll through anymore I’m just going to get my reps in get the practice in and biny trying to get out of the way there too FR team was trying to listen your advice St and get
Away but now he’s going to get out of the way nothing like a bit of drama here to uh get things rolling into the afternoon here so as we mentioned earlier these guys have been serving through all day and uh we had a bit of a uh bit of a false

The heart out on them so I reckon these guys are probably tired too just icing the legs yeah all right so as we mentioned earlier Dakota Walters was definitely uh you know rightfully so feeling a little bit uh of heat in the engine after his
First ride was just you know it was just an issue there with the timing of the sets and and toota unfortunately his first way was just not not up to speed and as as thought this is a complete reset we’re starting from scratch here which is cool Dakota’s
First wave should have been uh should have been a lot big as we see here much taller right here for Dakota Walters it was a great test run for everyone Dakota wers didn’t need it though he’s absolutely on fire he’s uh been the standout on the circuit this year and uh
You can see Dakota we wondered about his composure Jess certainly looking composed there yeah he definitely proved us wrong just then he finished off that wave absolutely beautifully like I’ve said and I’ll say time time and time again he’s literally one of my favorite Surfers to watch great first turn there
For Dakota I feel like that last practice rep definitely put that fire under his belly going to watch it from the start again so different angle of that turn beautiful surfing there I’m loving the rail surfing from Dakota usually we see him take to the air but
I’m loving that uh different style and finishes that one off and uh yeah he definitely looks happier at the end of that one yeah your spot on it’s like the variety that Dakota has in his surfing he’s obvious ly you know got all the tricks in the book on the wave face and
Then as he looks to get a little more comfortable as his heat progresses you no doubt we’ll see him take to the air we’re going to get to see alistair’s first attempt here alist looked really strong on his opening ride in the uh first attempt I could guess we say but
We’ve got a fresh scoreboard here and a fresh clock not that the clock really matters it’s all about the attempts and here’s Alice’s first attempt on this ride we got a beautiful angle there from the wall and uh yeah it’s it’s a similar approach test but you can just see that
There’s a little more sort of cut through the water in alist surfing he’s he’s a bit heavier set of a lad and you can you can see it there in the two styles of Surfing but both both beautifully approached first waves yeah yeah you said it perfectly they are two
Very different states uh Alistar and Dakota probably opposite sides of the scale I’d like to say here’s the replay of alist he really relies on his powerful rail surfing to get him through his H and so that’s what he’s absolutely sticking to right now but we’re going to get a little bit
Close and personal with the surface right now binsey talk us through the water well black Surfers are pretty uh philosophical about it all um Dakota’s probably caught three or four more waves than aliser but they’ve both got one on the board now he was a little bit confused about
What had happened but he seemed totally fine with it and then uh Alistair just head down game face on tell you what I am on the treadmill here I’ve only ever surfed this wave before trying not to catch waves in here the ri’s that strong trick Beach rip you’ll be right biny
Dakota’s going to have to go Michael Jordan here he’s going to have to find something else to get him pissed off and he’s absolutely doing that right here on this way a beautiful snap to start backed it up with a bit of variety there with the car we’re going to see him take
To the air here as he throws one out into the flats of the wave a beautiful air reverse to finish and uh Dakota wal is really settling in here as we wait for scores Jess of those Surfers first two rides yeah that’s more like it for
Dakota we’re used to seeing that I guess air game but I’m really loving the rails surfing that second car we saw him put his arm in the water tweak his body through the car this is this first turn kicks the fins out there here’s a better
Looking wave this turn I love it puts his arm in the water and just pushes all the way back around realigns here for this end turn and uh yeah that’s the Dakota walers we used to absolutely and again from a judging perspective I don’t think the judges will go too crazy over
This ride just being that they’ve seen a lot of those first first two turns all day what the judges want to see they want to see this maneuver right here at the start of the wave uh and you’ll see different varieties of that maneuver you won’t see the Surfers get as far out
Onto the flat of the wave what you will see is maybe get them more sort of amplitude with their board out of the lip uh you know to begin the wave off and this is alistair’s rendition of his next ride you know I mentioned it before
And I I’ll have to say it again here the judges are not going to go crazy over waves like this unless you can really finish the bang as alist did there and unfortunately comes unstuck but you know you will see that you know the variety I
Feel is what’s going to win this event Jess I just I love being shocked by Surfers and it’s not very often you see alist reinard go to the air I mean you see it on his Instagram Clips but in comps you know this is the type of
Surfing we’re used to seeing from him and uh you know it gets some results so we love seeing him stick to it but when I saw him lining up to do this air if he had have pulled that off my jaw was open I was like oh my goodness I love being
Shocked by competitors yeah it’s it’s good to see like and I think that’s what the cool thing is about this regional series you get a block of events in a row and then you spend a fair bit of time off to go and work on your uh you
Know your full repertoire which Alistar obviously has been from the Sunshine Coast plenty of rampy little RS up there when the the winds blowing from the north into all those protected Corners so he’s no doubt getting his repetitions in uh but uh you know I’d have to say
Here J we’re going to see some fireworks out of Dakota at the start of this wave here Chris take it away sty here just powerful coaster Dakota a lot more flare sort of reflexive surfing deals with the sections of him chopped away that one didn’t quite get still got some room to
Move Dakota’s got to be uh thanks Chris Dakota’s got to be careful here Alice is sitting on the single highest wave of the Heat and Dakota is no doubt ripping but I think that element of risk is going to need to be brought into his game earlier
In the wave he’s already had a wave very similar to this he’s got a 65 and then in a lower six after that he’s really going to need to start joining alist up in that seven range J if he wants to take this heat out because we know alist
Has got some more left in the tank yeah alist definitely does definitely one of the most powerful Surfers in the draw but we’ve seen Dakota drop eights all day it kind of feels like yeah maybe he’s safety surfing his waves a little bit just to make sure he makes this
Round but alistar’s making that safety surfing pretty hard you know to get through this heat so yeah I feel like Dakota just needs to click back in with himself and um just find his rhythm show us what he’s been doing uh for all the rounds prior and drop those eights by taking to
The air again yeah and I think you know the judges are onto it too they’ve been watching all day so for the quarters onwards which we’re into now they’re definitely going to make these guys work for their scores this is a really important ride here for
Alist he needs a mid five to go to the lead and that I would not like to be a judge on a day like today we’ll have to wait and see that’s going to be uh that’s going to be right there you know what I love from the men as well is that
Yes a lot of the waves are similar but I feel like each one is just tweaked out ever so slightly um but I also think that’s why Dakota was dropping such big scores because the judges had their element of why isn’t he in this he’s I feel like he’s safety surfing he’s
Nervous it’s qu a finals maybe he feels like if he’s he’s got those scores early in the day so he deserves those scores for doing what he’s doing but he’s not adding in that element of surprise that the judges need to see to give out those
Big scores yeah I think both these guys are ripping and like you said we love being surprised the judges are human they want to be surprised as well wow upon replay some pretty powerful surfing on this wave and I’d actually feel after watching that wave again pretty
Confident alist is going to flip this heat around here and uh he was always in a dangerous position with that single higher score you know you can only give aliser so many chances before he really starts to put two big scores on the board I reckon he done it here I think Dakota
Will need a score to go into the lead here although Dakota doesn’t know this but he assumes so beautiful first tail whip out of the lip lovely second snap in the bow he’s going to need to go again I feel another I don’t know Jess I don’t know
Either I feel like Alice’s wave really made me feel something where Dakota’s yes they’re beautiful link together waves but they’re not making me jump out of my skin where at the end of every single one of Alice’s W have G oh that was a beautifully Sur wave um it’s not
The Dakota that I thought was going to come to this heat alist regin’s prior ride was a 767 and he still got a wave to come Dakota you can see visibly frustrated there Dakota had the score to start that he had the turn to turn that
Into a big excuse me he had the wave to turn it into a big score after that first maneuver is what I was trying to get out there Jess pretty excited this ter sick heaps of risk beautiful tail throw in the ball something a little different but I would I would love to
See him maybe cut one of these turns out and just focus on a huge finish you know on a day like today I just don’t think he can be connecting the dots to finish this wave allbe it a great start for the toota on that wave yeah I feel like you

Points they do not go towards his French rankings um only Australian um and oceanic rankings can take as we see someone who can keep their points and make a charge up the leader board on the rankings is coer Davies he’s been on fire the lad from the sunny
Coast got to give a shout out to his shaper here Thomas is known for his logs he’s a world title holder in the uh log Malibu division but he’s been making some incredible short boards and Cooper Davies has been sampling them and showing his full repertoire here today
At the W pool I’d say he’s my Dark Horse Jess he’s been ripping I actually went to Sri Lanka with Cooper last year and he took a Thomas TN finin over there maybe one of the funnest boards I’ve ever surfed really really fun board here’s the replay of that last one

Difference and the scoring point of difference here is what the Surfers are doing out of the top third of the wave and and how high up on the wave face are they turning and how like what you said Jess how on edge is it how dramatic is
It uh you know there’s a lot of different styles in this event and Cooper certainly has one of the more unique Styles in the event I don’t think anyone in the event shares a style with Cooper and I think it’s a good thing from a judging perspective they get to

Place is a great training ground for all aspects of Surfing and uh the traditional surfing as well Cooper Davis are you joking me massive snap out of the third turn there in that wave and it is you know it’s what we like to call I guess the you know bre and butter surfing
Rail variety he’s got it all it’s uh it’s great to watch and like you said Jess it makes you feel something yeah I was just about to say that we talk about surfing and these waves it has to make you feel something for the judges not to

Maneuver out of the start of the wave it is not going to happen uh as we see him fall on the end there but nevertheless a valiant effort from our French competitor it’s always great to have the international flavor in these events J but well done to our Sunny coasters

Reckon Dill Dill’s feeling a bit heavy in the legs there he definitely was not as heavy on the rail uh as as his opening exchange so I’m getting interested to see what the judges think there you can see those flags in the background just flaing around a little
Harder Jess I still love this wave I love I know this is going to sound absolutely ridiculous but I think my favorite part of Dylan’s wave is his bottom turns no it’s not ridiculous at all are beautiful beautiful bottom turns it’s like he’s on the Alley ride at home

To chrisan you know him pretty well I’m winning this heat no I’m kidding he’s the most humble human up and riding now one thing about the wind kicking up is that it will I think take a little bit of that aerial action out of the repertoire for some of these kids unless
They’re wanting to grab the rail through the air but nevertheless we have seen these two stomping on the rail super hard particularly through those middle sequence of turns J yeah I feel like that was another great wave surf by Joel you know this honestly could have been the final by the opening
Exchanges we’ve seen but I feel like Joel’s going to need to lift again and do what Dakota didn’t do in his heat which is go to the air even though you I know you just said it’s going to be a little bit harder it’s doable it’s
Doable but these these guys are so tuned into their environments they know you know sometimes doing an air on this wave is easier than doing these turns because the wind is coming into you you get that nice coping uh easy for these guys not for me uh but it’s uh you know what’s
The easiest way that you can get an excellent score is how they’re thinking and when they notice that wind kick up they’re going okay cool with the wind at my back I’m going to throw a bit more spray now I can look a little more powerful I can draw out those turns and
Make my surfing look a bit more expansive and bigger on the wave face I think that’s what we’ll see through the rest of this afternoon now cuz it is it’s it’s the least favorable wind for aerial maneuvers as we see riding now beny take it away that first turn we’ve seen both
Guys on their last go the LA and finish it in similar style through just I’m seeing half their board the back of the all three fins and these guys are just really pushing it as hard as they can and it’s pretty damn exciting well binsey his last wave was a
733 how do you reckon that last one compares to the 733 um yeah Park I I thought the uh the 733 was actually pretty damn good the first layback he went for was huge might not have been able to follow it up I think stay said
Heavy legs um I reckon that last R is probably going to go in the same ballpark as well but both of these guys are just feeding off each other’s energy they’re both mates they’re both having a great time out here there’s no malice whatsoever it’s uh yeah it’s pretty
Exciting you’re loving it a what de mate you’re going through the gears it’s good fun another one get him let’s see what Jo can bring to the table here but as we’ve seen d m it’s last wave an 84 I need to tip of the captain of the judges there
Fantastic judging and we’ll break into that uh realm a little bit later as we see Joel out of the top of the lip here he need he needed to go there the judges aren’t appreciating him on rail as much as Dylan and he’ll know that he he’s a very Savvy competitor he knows
This so you know it might look like a mistake there but it’s the right strategy he has to be going for this type of maneuver now this late in the heat he’s you know the judges are quite clearly telling him whether he likes it or not you’re not going to outturn Dylan
With what you’re doing and sometimes that’s hard to hear as a competitor but you have to adjust and I think this was the right move for Joel he just didn’t pull it off well like we said I feel like Joel’s uh greatest rival in competitive surfing for someone who
Surfed similar style to him was Dakota and we saw him two Heats previous not do that and not get through the heat so I feel like Joel is on the right path whilst trying to get a little bit more Progressive in his surfing and you know
He’s won a comp here before doing a against some of Australia’s best Aerials not some of austral is best aerialist and he wanted doing a stalefish on the right as well so he knows what he’s doing um I just feel like he’s got to get maybe a little bit more confident
With it in the pool right now yeah definitely great day for the fam plenty of shade down here plenty of Sun as well whatever you whatever you wanted out there as we see D now he’s looking to improve on an 84 and he needs to because Joel vaugh has
Got a 92 in the tank for sure and uh Dylan knows that he he he wants to put you know Joel in combo land which he will not do on this wave but as you can see there both times that the gentlemen have gone to the air there in this heat
The boards just drifted away from them slightly and it doesn’t put the aerial maneuvers out of question Jess you just have to be spot on because the wind at the moment is not going to be your friend it’s sort of it’s going to be your enemy you touched on earlier if you
Went to the air you’d have to grab the rail EXP that so that’s so the board does a below away for you would you grab would it be better to grab with two hands I mean it would be but the judges aren’t going to score you as highly I mean I think that
That that would be something that maybe 10 years ago the judges would appreciate but where aial surfing’s come and and he going is is is no grab Aerials or or technically difficult aals like maybe a stalefish or a slob it’s uh which is what deal was going for there it’s um
Yeah it’s it’s just technically and just to get your body in that position it’s it’s sort of not that difficult and the judges they would be they would be harsh on that you know not every air is a good air and and the judges are well across
That now whereas 5 or 10 years ago you could have done an air reverse and they might have got pretty excited these days they’re looking for pretty technical airs and Joel knows that and we’ll see what he does with it here nice opening car beautiful snap he needs a
9.4 and his best way of doing this type of Surfing was an 833 so either he’s going to have to have got the judges on a good day or I think they’re going to keep that score in the same Realm yeah my initial reaction is it’s
Probably not going to be the score but I mean excellent heat from these two guys and you can see both of them are pretty happy as well this reminds me of a heat that Joel and Dakota had at marra and it was just an absolute air Fest they both
Had nines and uh takoto actually won the Heat and broke his ankle on the last wave at the same time uh but yeah these guys they’ve got they both just spent a year on the Challenger Series together so Joel clap and Dylan yeah that was just another excellent Heat from those
Guys as we see great sportsmanship there from these two like you mentioned J and uh another you know fantastic heat that was that was the heat of the round and every heat before it has had that title you know even of the day which just been broadcasting since the quarterfinals
Onwards but we’ve been lucky enough to watch the action live here all day and there’s been some great matchups but the cream Jess has definitely risen to the top here uh this afternoon without a doubt Javis ear up and riding I think the uh the first goofy foot up we’ve
Seen today and I mean I got to go out and say it one of the favorites you can talk about being surprised and talk about variety just the fact Java stands with his right foot forward just gives us something different to look at and the judges have been you know really
Appreciating his surfing and for good reason yeah I mean that wave already made me feel something that had so much sugar and spice in that wave here’s the replay I love his backand attack it’s definitely one of his strong points and he’s just timing it so perfectly I feel
Like this Wave It’s probably easy to get more vertical in the pocket on your back end um we saw for example Justin yeah like you said surfing trying to find the lip where I feel like on your back hand it’s right there you can get really vertical in that steepest part of the
Section and yeah then finishes just with a little bit of pizaz at the end there too see the official scores from the last Heat there 917 and 84 a pretty convincing Victory there for D Moffett great surfing though by Joel vaugh he had a great event and a fifth place
Finish here for Joel is a great result he’s lingering around being inside that top six for the uh making the cut for the Challenger Series at the end of this season so a quarterfinals of a 3,000 here is a great result Jess here we go Jordi Lawler paddling into this one

Didn’t quite get the finish that he was chasing the second turn was beautiful and it’s uh you know probably a bad thing that they’ve matched up against one another but it’s good thing for the judges they’re comparing apples with apples here the thing to know as well
Between these two is Jordi is definitely a traditional Surfer I mean he has a crazy air game don’t get me wrong but I mean with turns like with that that we saw on that wave he’s definitely going to I feel like stick to that powerful stronger rail surfing the more
Traditional style we’ll see where we’ll see Javas be a lot more Progressive because I think if they went on turns Jordy would probably outow Jarvis yeah I think you spot on with that call but no doubt like Jarvis pound-for-pound is giving it everything he’s got here as he brings it through the
Inside I don’t know you got to give it to this kid man to be that consistent to finish two waves like that so strong that’s absolutely world class 867 for his first wave he’s done pretty well on this wave again I don’t think it’ll go
As high but for for how young he is and for how well he’s been serving in these last sort of 12 months you know great signs for the future of this kid’s career as a judge you know that his first wave and this wave were both very similar as a
Judge do you score that that wave less because there’s no different to the one he Ser before no to be honest I wish that you would but you can’t it’s it’s variety on the wave it’s not variety across two waves so it’s it’s it’s they’re comparing the wave to one
Another but you’re not being deducted for doing the same surfing it’s a new opportunity so they’re scoring it the same uh but the new aners in his first wave in that wave is uh I would say this wave is going to come under I could be wrong I’ve been wrong plenty of times
Before but the Dodgers are looking for the drive off the rail whereas this wave I think JIS was looked a little more slighty off the fence but I think I’m wrong to from that score 907 there you go and happy to take it it was three beautiful turns I personally like his

Good yes he’s in the lead Jord is going to get two more chances here he’s capable of getting a nine and an eight himself and it’s just up to him to do it the hard thing and the the the good thing for Javis is that he’s gone there
First and so he’s absolutely in the box seat p jais is sitting out the back now and he has to get higher than an 867 he’s capable of doing that we’ve obviously seen that with the 907 in his score line however he’ll increase his total if he does it would just be
Incrementally whereas Jord is basically starting from zero he needs to get rid of that 75 because he’s comboed and I think it’s a good thing that the the path for him is really clear he needs to smash his next two waves it never feels
Good when you have to say I need to get rid of this 75 there’s one Dark Cloud over there it’s just hovering above Jord wall you see J up right here tight in the pocket there’s a turn the judges are going to have nowhere to go now with
This wave cuz this is looking superior to the first two and they’ve gone pretty high except the aerial did not get the click out of the lip he was looking for I think the judges are lucky there cuz they would have had to go huge with that
Score and I think that uh you know the one thing the backhand does lack is the variety it’s not it’s nothing that they can really do about it but it it’s one of those things that when you see those punctuating turns from Jarvis they you
Know they do need to be rewarded and you don’t want to run out of room in the scale is uh is what I’m saying but this second turn here yes it’s beautiful it was just it was oh it was just on an absolute roll we were going here we go

How much spray the serfer throws off their rail but she certainly had that as she comes through to the inside and another sequence of nice Maneuvers Chris but I do wonder when it will be time for Sierra to uh show us what she’s capable of above the lip yeah that was a really
Fluent wave just seamlessly from turn to turn but kind of lacking just that one moment and uh we know that she’s got that in Spades these first couple of turns were beautiful that was really crisp connection straight in that second turn then you were thinking maybe she
Was going to look for a ramp or throw the BS on the endsection but wasn’t quite to be has a nice wave it’s still going to be a great score I do wonder if it’s going to be enough though I think it’s going to be right around that number she
Needs a 70 02 and I wouldn’t be surprised if it comes in sort of similar to the 683 or if it’s the score it’s just the score there I am wrong again for the second time today at 807 absolutely smashed out of the park siur to the lead Chris wow excellent huge so
Yeah easily her best wave and uh now it’s Nikki Kerr with Nikki van djk with a job to do 724 the requirement first turn goes down that was the turn that was a situation you you can’t afford to hold back yeah like that and unfortunately it’s all just flipped on that last
Exchange you can see the frustration there from Nikki we don’t need to guess what she said there I uh you see you just check out the wall as she’s paddling in just for a positioning but a beautiful connection here drift the fins but maybe just a little too much and uh
Unfortunately couldn’t bring that one around and uh so this is a free run free swing I mentioned it uh earlier we’re just talking about Sierra wanting to go to the air do you think she she tries now to get a rep under her belt or does she kind of keep that under

If they uh if they bow out uh takes out a lot of variables I think we all agree it will never replace you know the real thing the there’s no threats to no surfing competitions being held in the ocean but it’s an incredible tool for a surfer whether competitively or free
Surfing you can get so much done in such a short amount of time and it’s guaranteed yeah hent a day no waiting period great for the athletes and that’s why I think it suits this Challenger Series H sorry uh qualification series the regional qualifications about access
And this is a really accessible event to a lot of people and I mean de’s DIY I mean this is another Clash of eight we had it Nikki van djk up against Sierra K in the last T and then obviously here Ellie versus DIY these clashes of generations CU these Surfers can come
Together and it’s just fantastic I’m so excited to see what’s next for Ellie Harrison she’s such a great uh Surfer such a great person she’s an important part of you know talking Bo Riders and it’s really great to see this next generation of young female servers it’s just incredible all right here goes

Is a relatively new development for WSL and how exciting is it for a new format yeah it’s super exciting as a surfer coming to a wle is like going to Disneyland I Can’t Take My Eyes Off it I’ve been watching it all day and the competitiv have been doing a great job
And you know these things are popping up all over the world in the next years we’re going to see them everywhere and West and Sydney’s next we’re here competing surfing in Melbourne 10 years ago that would have never been possible you’ve got to go an hour and a half that
Way or that way to get surfed so this is an exciting opportunity for us and we’re grabbing it with both hands and tell us about the strategy behind the quicker qualifying and we were talking about it before where it’s action-packed it’s high drama there’s lots going on but

Surfing dreams you can get on here at Urban surf fit it into your work schedule surf during the day and that’s who we see and that Progressive Surfer surfing our smaller WS like Cruiser our Progressive turns WS our intermediate ways that’s really uh who who Urban surf
Is built for we also get a lot of school groups coming out doing learner surf experiences as we see look at that let’s talk about this wave dii because the wave does behave differently to an ocean wave it sort of doesn’t quite stand up and fall back as at you
As much so to be able to lay it on rail light to time that is really hard yeah I mean I I sort of argue that it doesn’t do the same thing as wave it does the thing like some waves do and some waves are different you know every W’s
Different what’s amazing is how quickly they sered as adapts to the pool environment and the performance that we get and that was a that was a great haat um it’s going to be really interesting to see the scores but ell with another good wave off the end there but surely
That last wave of Di’s is going to be a best yeah I I suspect that Ellie’s going to have been chasing a wave with a score with that wave but it was a very well served wave as well so and look these these points mean a lot this isn’t for
For you know uh for giggles this is for for real points and real prize money and Ellie Harrison wants to make it on the championship tour she’s got all the skills to do it and a win in this heat will uh will really help her with that
Oh okay this is going to be a great exchange all right the last score came in for dimy at a 727 so Ellie is now chasing a 687 and she’s done it comfortably a 783 so the lead changes a couple of times in the last couple of waves but it is Ellie
Harrison who comes through straight back into the action mate we are straight into the men’s semis wow it is nonstop and you know the funny thing about this is we’re running small sets with a smaller gut but generally here we’re running you know 12 14 waves
In a set and uh you know the public is just all smiles having an amazing time and uh you know Urban’s great for these sort of events but it’s also great for everyone I was mentioning before the school groups we have coming in doing the Lear to Surf experience and a lot of
Those kids wouldn’t get access to the ocean so you know we do water safety programs we do Lear to serf programs and to see you know kids from cultural communities that maybe don’t get access to the ocean as much be able to come here learn about the ocean learn about
The surfing lifestyle um is probably one of the the coolest things we we get to do here at Urban surf we were talking earlier essendon right next door with their training facility those guys in here all the time we do see uh dce and heel in a bit um
Actually it’s funny this year with Sydney where we’re working with some of the clubs gws on their hydrotherapy in winter so the guys coming post game before they go to the airport waiting in the lagoon obviously the water’s a little uh cooler in in Winter um we do
See a lot of athletes and celebrities and people coming through you where else could you rather so this thing is amazing from Alis reinado I remember first seeing him in the abbs and thinking this kid’s incredible but his development over the last 12 months incredible that first turn if we can get
The replay of it just the Tor just ripped his upper body around put on rail dness bro yeah he sort of was one of those guys who you thought might have just been a board Rider stand out out but then he’s just kept progressing and progressing and uh you

Out of his last wave even just then kind of flopping off his board a little bit he’s still I mean he’s Ching still combination of two scores and he knows it but he he’s capable it’s kind of done now right that was his third wave unless
He gets better than a 783 he can basically just think about maybe riding the last one for fun because it’s these waves come and go so quick that sometimes it’s hard to kind of digest all the information but to me that looks like another seven range I hope for his

Saturday afternoon you can fly in you only need accommodation for one day it’s right next to the air for like it makes it a lot easier than having to fly to KY three planes to Indonesia catch the world’s worst van8 hours over mountain top and then get a dud first
Heat after P for a week of accommodation yeah no doubt the surf trip will never die but this is a great way to burn off a bit of steam if you on a bit of a tough run of waves at your local spot you can get to this place you know from
Anywhere in the country in a direct flight so it’s ironically it’s pumping here today I know Victor it’s uh that’s why Ellie Harrison’s got a win today to make not being at home worth it wow this is a nice yeah as you said two Victory laps little bit of a nose pick

Earlier this is like T9 yeah Javis one The Stand Out to the event thus far that’s why he’s in the semi-finals but surfing like this is uh stringing this one together maximum effort so far on this wave as he whips that one around it’s almost like a run like you could
Yeah you can see a like a a slope style snowboard to drop in and say I’m going to hit this do that do that and and you can see with Jarvis he’s almost got this run where it’s like your three turns get to the end section
Your big fin WF reverse and if it all comes together it’s a score he really has this one on lock you know different angles when you’re on your backand really allows you to go vertical and I’ll tell you what from the water sitting out the back behind some of those turns with this
Gusty wind huge sheets of spray 10 ft in the air looks awesome love that front angle it’s just shows you know how critical and tight he’s getting in the wave and how tight he’s turning in the pocket so I’m expecting a big score there for Jarvis and if there’s anyone
That can answer back it’s D Moffett he was Sensational in his quarterfinal heat earlier and we’ll see his opening ride in a matter of seconds Chris here we go do him off at North Nar been right theing bit of variety there for D hasn’t opened up with the Larry so far and
Might have just been looking at the player and not the ball there Chris or was it the spray coming off Javis Earl’s rail that was just falling into his face and dist still Landing an 867 for Javis Earl inches from the wall just drops in set sail that first turn
Was huge he actually did a couple of laries in his earlier heat um maybe not quite as Punchy as that one he was well on his way to a decent number but then the wheels came off halfway down yeah the Larry layback it’s a turn that it gets used very frequently by a
Lot of the surface here on on the tour it’s like uh Chris and I were talking about it earlier it’s in some instances it’s an easy turn to go to because you’re kind of already leaning back on your rail as you’re coming up the water and you’re leaning on your fins and you
Kind of just keep your body in that same position and you know tweak through the turn at the end as opposed to a traditional carve where you rotate your upper body uh but Dill you’re right he did have Larry’s in his earlier heat but that one seemed a little lower in the
Wave more of a carve and I think it almost just set his rhythm a little off to what he was used to Javis Earl here he can really put the pressure on here Chris sure can an 867 already to his name this is a really similar wave to
The last one that turn was huge though had to kind of uh chop off it a little bit out on the face force that one and uh I don’t think that’s going to match his earlier 867 so a little bit of variety in the wave there as well Stace he didn’t quite
Get that end section that’s allowed him to project if we’re not going to get Variety in the surfing we’re going to need Variety in the wave to help these Surfers showcase what they’re capable of because that turn was huge we have Variety in our criteria Chris but it is
Variety on the wave it’s not across your two scores but in a situation like this I I would say that Javis is absolutely ripping but it is time for him to start showing uh you know potentially another turn there in this wave but I mean you
Can’t fault him it’s going to be another excellent score yeah and if it comes that easy to you why would you stop and how quick is that rotation textbook staff if you watch that replay again his head just whips around and the body follows that was cool and it’s going to
Be like Advantage again to Jaris as uh Dylan here is yet to put a score of note on the board this is his second ride he really needs to jump up into the excellent range here Larry car to start again let’s see if he can make him in
Through the middle and he does it the same mistake twice for Dylan Moffett uncanny and Jarvis finds himself in a very similar position to what he did with his other North Naran competitor from the corters he’s up to love so far in this matchup still yet to put a meaningful
Number on the board and uh I think I know what’s happening to D muffin it’s uh all of jarvis’ teeth and hair reflecting off the Sun that is taking Dylan’s attention away from what he needs to do this is a rip Cur team here cheering on their one of their team
Riters here Dylan he’s a he’s a fantastic lad and a great Surf and he’s done great things for the rip kill brand over the last couple of years might have even worked a few worked a few ships in theore saw at Naran I think if I’m not
Mistaken yeah well he had the uh wild card in the rip kill Naran Pro in 2021 when the we had the Aussie qu brought To Us by rib Cur when uh yeah Co was in full cry and and Dill was switching out between working shifts of the rib Cur

Turn and uh it’s there’s only so much you can do on your backand out here Chris so I’m I’m being very critical of this young man surfing but he’s I know he’s got the capacity to do it and I believe we’ve just seen it there this is
A fantastic ride yeah and I mean we’re obviously being incredibly critical because he got an 8.07 on his last W so excellent surfing and for the viewers at home is just where the nose of the board finishes on the turn finishes back facing towards the wall not the beach which just adds
That extra kind of layer of commitment just spins it so quickly so Jaris came over to my hood uh a couple of months ago for Red Bull foam Wreckers and we got pumping rabbits for a day and Jarvis was on a catch surface off top surfing like this just throwing airs
Getting backand corn drag tubes at rabbits wild so uh yeah he is one talented kid honestly with a Junior title to his name all right here goes D mufford JIS has just upgraded his score again a 917 the result for his last wave so D needs to bring the heat definitely
Needs to go excellent range to at least get himself out of the uh combination he’s facing right now so two scores the requirement of D Mett a 784 ball pass that’s right if he wants to break it down into two ra uh two waves this wave
Will have to be a 784 greater and that Larry was a better version of that turn as he rips a car through there and uh sort of steered clear of the snap which seemed to be bringing bringing him undone Chris and he managed to finish the

Front angle ah beautiful layback in the pocket there I kind of thought she got hung up but she didn’t really get hung up at all she kept her speed and blasted through to the inside she really drove through that opening carve as well I I quite liked it
Stas I do too upon the replay I was actually a fan of that ride and to answer the question there is no time for a s you’ve got to come out swinging and ell Ellie Harrison certainly did that Sierra ker knows that I still don’t think we’ve seen Sierra’s absolute best
Yet and I’d be expecting to see it here in the final here we go Sierra open way for the final seeing it on the rail there those turns are what got her her World Junior title that’s kind of her signature turn there that ah snap kick the fins out in the pocket so
Again I feel like we won’t see those two scores come to play by the end of the heat both of these women have so much more in the tank we’re not seeing them come into play at all the judges are really taking their time and I guess rightly so what they’re doing is
Comparing one one to the other before they lock in a score so the reason why that didn’t lock in Ellie score straight away as they want to see this score as well get themselves a comparison set the scale for the Heat and then and then inase the rest of the heat off this
Opening exchange so it’s a seven for Ellie and we’ll see where Sierra’s wave comes in I have to think it’s pretty similar I kind of can’t pick him yeah I was going to say I feel like they’re pretty on par I feel like Ellie’s had more variety I
Guess but I’m expecting bigger things from both of these women in this final yeah Sierra had to put the wave together a bit better but uh it maybe a little more risk from Ellie on that second turn so we’ll see how the judges think of it
But certainly very well and there you go 693 to a seven and you can’t really blame the judges for not being able to separate that one at all it’s they were both great starts and it’s uh it’s juice as we see up in riding beny you’re there

The final we can’t blame her it’s uh a real tight one this one Sierra Kerr 14.93% beautiful first opening turn there and again I’m loving how Sierra’s drawing off the bottom really pushing through a turn she just got a little bulk through that last bottom turn there but uh finish off that wave
Nicely I still think that wave better is the 693 from my first immediate look at it we’ll get a look at a replay but I love the way she really draws hard off that first turn I I prefer that to the first wave just so much more aggression
And brings it all the way back around and slides the the tail out again for a second turn let’s look at it from a different angle yeah I love it I love the way she draws through that carve I much prefer this style of hard rail surfing from
Sierra than uh what I saw in the first wave I’d say yeah I agree she just pushed a little harder there and I think sometimes she looks in two minds I think you know it’s almost a credit to her surfing she has got so much variety but
I think almost sometimes he can tell she’s kind of thinking oh should I try like an air or a turn and sort of in between whereas that wave you can tell she had one thing on her mind and it was just to absolutely annihilate that wave
On the edges of her surfboard in the water and drawing out some beautiful carving Maneuvers which is um you know extremely hard to do on this pool there’s a very small margin for error here we go Ellie she’s looking for a 721 on this wave to take the lead off
Sierra beautiful third turn there and gets the Finish we can hear the cheers from Ellie’s family there’s Helen watching very closely and we’ve got the Round of Applause from Helen she likes it got the tick of approval Stace well guys I am here with Helen who we spoke to just

The final or the win Jess the win is on the line in this wave and 851 is the requirement two beautiful First turns there little bit of a pause in between the second and third turn but a beautiful sequence of turns to finish I’m lost here is the 867 of Ellie
Harrison H needs to be better than this wave excuse me slightly less but around the same Realm I think that Ellie’s timing is just slightly better she’s throwing a little more water out the back of the wave I know the judges like the look of that and I think Ellie’s first turn was
Better however don’t worry about what I think she she got it at 863 it’s right there she needed 851 863 well done Sierra Kerr to come from behind and take the win that is Sensational work Christopher you with the champ the win congratulations oh thank you so much
That was oh I can’t really believe that that was a crazy ending going into that last wave you knew you had to get the score obviously you’d consider that you’ve got it within yourself but how do you find it to pull it together and put on performance like
That yeah I didn’t know really what score I need I knew it was kind of a high score so I was just like let’s surf like Sierra and just have some fun and got it done surf like Sierra I love that was there nerves after you kicked out

He’s got fire in his belly cuz I thought he was the best surfer in the in this event last year and he came second to Xavier H who was I would say Jaris looked the best from start to finish where Xavier peak in the
Final which is what you want to do and I I I know jvis doesn’t want to let that happen again and he’s just coming out of the gates here absolutely swinging I would be very surprised if that’s not the highest score of the day I was going
To say that is excellent every day of the week there it is 95 9.5 Java cell is he going to do it again in two waves maybe the record would say yes he has just been so consistent Alis reinado has also been sensational sequence of beautiful nice
Opening cares here as we bring it through to the inside with Al that a massive connection there and he gets the finish of the wave but it just to me is going to have to be a little bit stronger in the whole dimension of the wave if you if you’re looking at turn
For turn Alice has got him with the power but he’s going to have to have power on every single punch there cannot be any slip UPS no he’s been getting pretty excellent scores for surfing like this though all event he’s got that opening carb just on
Lock so he’s doing what he knows he’s getting him scores but when I think you come up against an athlete like Jaris I mean you’ve just got to add surfing with a little bit of flare just like that third turn I think you’re right the flare is
There it’s just it just needs to be at every at every account and and you know credit to Sierra something she said there in that amazing interview with Chris was Sierra just got to Surf like me that’s that’s that’s something that gets away from all these competitors in
The moment they you think you have to do more than what you’ve been doing and it’s not the case you you showcase what you’ve been doing and showcase it as best you can and and Alice has done that here but look he’s a point if you look
At it just on the numbers he’s a point and a half off the start of of Javis which is a dangerous place to be as we see Jarvis Earl here up and riding with his second ride beautiful first turn he could win this event on this wave right
Here Jess oh my goodness he’s just linking together yet another oh no haven’t seen that today but that’s okay he’s got two more waves but I like what Sierra said as well just to add to that so many people get caught up in competing of course against the other
Person but get so caught up in what their scores are where I feel like Sierra is just living in the world like I just need a better my last way and you know as we all have grown up in surfing the ocean that does come into play you
Do have to play your competitor you have to know their strength and their weaknesses and you play them off against your own that is completely out of the equation here this is just straight performance Jarvis this is the replay of that last one he’s going to have to

Going to paddle past me with a th000 Ys there I’m going to have to get out of the Impact Zone again but yeah it is actually quite hard to hear the scores so the guys and girls are largely surfing against themselves and just trying to better what they’ve done and
Hoping that the cards fall in their favor good to see the sun protection there mate and uh look I the scores here are pretty tight like Jarvis’s last waves a 78 which still puts allister’s requirement up in the 93 Zone which this is uh you know it’s not going to be it
It’s going to sit around a similar score to his first one he really needs to start getting up in that high eight range to low nine to really get you know get himself into this heat so this next score that’s coming in is going to be crucial and we all know alist doesn’t
Lack the power he does not lack the power in he surfing so he’s just got to find that wave that allows him to maybe not open up with that first C maybe open up with a really strong open face Rio kick the fins out of the back see what
Um d m was doing I guess in his Heats to get those nines against Jo Bourne especially uh here we go Java C trying to lock away this final right now beautiful backhand surfing and unfortunately can’t link it together then on that got one hand on
The trophy and he kind is surfing like it he he knows it’s right there he’s got one more chance well I mean he’s probably at this stage not even looking like needing it to be honest like Alis still needs a 93 he’s obviously capable of doing that it’s still a massive requirement
Though yeah I mean Jarvis is just putting on an absolute show even though he hasn’t finished his last two waves it’s beautiful surfing to watch yeah just that transition speed what you know what he he probably doesn’t match the power of alist I mean for sure he
Doesn’t on the on the open face but what he he lacks in that he makes up for a transition speed like that is just lightning fast between the turns and the turns are quality you know sometimes Surfers when they’re rattling through their turns really quick they sort of
Sacrifice some quality not Javis every turn still is very Dynamic very technical uh it’s just you know that that ability of being on the back end you can get it up and down between the turns a lot quicker whereas being on the forehand with your left foot forward
Being a natural foter you’ve got to draw out your turns a bit more but that’s a benefit to alist he can show off his power and he’s going to have to here Jess that’s a better looking opening turn for alist puts him back into the Ste the wave rips through that one wow
This is a good looking wave for alist needs the Finish hey what do you what do you reckon that that like that’s still his best number I don’t know it goes the whole way but that is going to be a very big score that was what he needed to do

Caugh a semi-final yeah yeah he definitely did some damage and uh ruined a couple of people’s dreams today but yeah Java cell he came here with one mission to do one better than last un executed incredibly wow so so good and you know it’s cool to see these these
Lads were warming up yesterday and I can see some crew of the crowd there that were warming up with them and you don’t really get that opportunity anywhere else I don’t think to be surfing those same kind of waves as what the the guys in the and girls in the event Surf and
