Today’s video we’re going to talk very much about Fairway Woods I get lots of questions all the time on YouTube and also from students about Fairway woods whether they should treat it like a driver whether they should treat it like an iron so let’s get really stuck into

It now the first thing that I’m going to say is 100% what you should be always doing is trying to hit down on the golf ball okay because this golf club looks a little bit more like a driver than it does an iron doesn’t mean that you’re

Going to treat it more like a driver than an iron this is a golf club that you should be predominant hitting from off the floor so therefore you should always be trying to hit down on the ball now the question is how do you hit down

On the ball right that’s the big thing because what happens to most amateur golfers is the way they hit down on the ball is they often pull the hands down and the problem is is when you do things like pull your hands down this makes the

Club Chef get too Steep and what often happens is if you start the down swing where everything gets too Steep and too narrow like the distances the club is to me here then you have to have a very wide bottom part of the golf swing which

Is why you end up standing up therefore meaning that you can’t actually hit down which is why you often end up either hitting the ground before the ball or even hitting the top of the ball so the simple trick that you want with your Fairway Woods is you want to focus on

Your chest and what I want you to do is I want you to do a couple of little practice swings where you swing up to the top of your back swing and as you come down you can let your head move but I want you to focus on allowing your

Chest to point much further to the left for right-handed golfer to my lead side and ahead of the ball see what I’m doing here and you could almost just practice this by look if I put that club down on the floor okay I’m not going to move my

Hands and arms I’m just going to move my chest see the way it allows the club head to drag on the floor like so and this is a real simple little test to make sure that you’re using your body to keep the club down on the floor so that

Means my chest move is helping me hit down on the back of the golf ball like so okay okay we don’t want to stop moving the chest and pull down in the club so once you can get that feeling you can make a couple of practice swings moving your chest down over

Towards your lead side and that’s the first thing now if and when you start practicing that chest move and you associate that chest move to help you hit down then the next thing that you want to do is just allow your arms to release okay so one of the things I

Often say to a lot of my students is if you imagine that you had a little coffee table just the side of your hip here what I want you to do is I want you to swing up to the top of the back swing and I want you to just practice just

Resting the club shaft on the coffee table like so about hip high and when you do it just make sure that your forearm your tra forearm is pointing up towards the Sky Club face should look relatively open like so and that’s exactly what we’re looking for because

In the goal swing if you can put that arm move and that chest move together you’ve got a recipe for Success because the our move of getting the club onto the coffee table that gives us width remember earlier we were like this now we’re like this that gives us lovely

Width okay it’s going to help us really get a good quality strike on the back of the ball and if we can move our chest that helps us strike down the ball and if we can strike down on the ball whilst also maintaining width you have a recipe

For success with the fa hoods welcome those two moves let me know I’ll see you guys again really really soon
