So only two courses on the road to as well instead of three in previous years so of course Pebble Beach no one needs any real introduction to to that where they’ve hosted various major championships over the years they are also playing either on the Thursday or

The Friday one round at spy glass Hill and that isn’t the easiest of golf courses which is something to bear in mind this week Pebble Beach Golf Links is the host course 54 holes thankfully Saturday and Sunday with no amateur so no Bill Murray this year potentially uh

Sitting and being shown on your TV for insane amount of hours um Pebble Beach itself a coastal golf course of course classical in nature um nice old style it’s short in length as well it’s a par 72 length of the course is only 6,972 yards hols with water hazards only

One that is the Pacific uh number of bunkers a lot of bunkers ering on this particular Golf Course 116 sand bunkers Acres of Fairway 27 Fairways they are Ry grass overseed on poana rough perennial Ry grass overseed on poana again 2 to three in so not as

Tough as we saw last week at the Farmers Insurance open the greens are some of the smallest we will see at any tournament this year probably the smallest 35,000 square ft of course POA greens tournament here is never any more than 11 so slow greens last year plenty of wind in play this

Ranked uh mid pack so it was uh the 20th most difficult Golf Course of 49 on the PJ to it played 7.53 against a power of 72 taking you to spy glass that’s a Trent Jones senior design 1966 a par 72 again not long 7,041 yards HS with water hazards 4

Number of bunkers 62 acres of rough 24 Fairways perennial Ry grass with poana again perennial Ry grass with POA 2 in is the rough bigger greens 5,000 square ft POA uh greens themselves described longer golf course you take driver a lot more Fairways though this week across both courses wider than Tory

Pines up to 30 yards 32 yards wide at 300 yard carry so again second week in the row poana greens this week uh we certainly saw last week a few of the usual stages on poana like Tony fenale get into the mix although his putting was particularly poor last week uh if

You were on matio pavon prices on a Monday up to 125 to1 congratulations right weather always very difficult to call here as per all Coastal Golf Course um action the the winning total is pretty much is dependent on temperature wind and turf conditions we are going to see a very

Soft golf course this week uh there’s been loads of rain in December and early January there is rain forecast from lunchtime on Wednesday before the tournament through Thursday and into early on Friday uh on Friday itself northwesterly Winds of up to 25 miles an hour are in play you can’t

Really tell here though that’s the point you may find as well that um wind up to 20 25 M out gets into play across Saturday and Sunday as well the long range forecast here is never the most accurate it has to be said the thing that really grabbed my mind though is 10

To 13° Celsius of the highest temperatures that is 50 to 55 F if you are in the United States not warm at all the ball will not go very far right Strokes gained rankings here for winners of this particular event now I’m going from Justin Rose last year

Shot 18 under back to vau Taylor in uh 2016 he won at 17 underpar go through what the Champions did in the ranking in across the the players that made the cut that particular year worth recognizing of course that for all of these they only played two of the four rounds with

17th now how does that compare to say Tory last week well off the T last week was 26th in the field approach was 16th so considerably less in terms of accuracy 26 from around the green 11th for ta to Green not as important and putting was 20th so that says to me

Approach play I think you’ve got to have a decent scrambling game around here because you are going to miss plenty of greens cuz they’re so small I know it’s one of the easiest courses to scramble but if you an absolute um if you’re not a dab hand at saving

Power around here you’re going to you’re going to splurge Bogies which will ultimately bring you down uh ta to Green is predominantly shorter game so approach and around the green you’ve got to be able to P around here that is the point I’m just going through the last

Five winners here Rose strok game patting 14th hogi Strokes game patting third uh Daniel Berger the worst Strokes game patting 18th and Nick Taylor in 2020 19 under par he was predominantly patting Strokes going T to Green 19th of which approach was 13th around the green

Was 13th and off the te was 54th Strokes game patting second so short Game Wizards and hot Putters very much in play this week that is undoubtedly true in terms of the uh traditional statistics you know your Fairways here Your Greens in R blah blah blah blah blah it basically boils down

To greens and regulation going way back to 2010 the field uh the position of the champion within the players that made the cut was eight going way back to 2010 that’s 14 renewals proximity to whole 13th putting average 7th with uh scrambling 22nd so scrambling more important than driving distance and driving accuracy

Putting average seventh so putts per G proximity to Ho 13th so wedge play decent Putter and if you miss greens you’ve got to get up and down that’s kind of where we’re at we also want players that I think have got decent finishes already at Pebble Beach

Um looking at I mean I was saying this last week wasn’t I at Tory Pines and then Mato pavon comes never seen either the North Course or the South course and wins the title on his first ever Farmers Insurance open that is John rames from 2017 so that’s two players now since

1953 that have won on tournament debut these things do get broken these Trends but in the main I’m looking for and it works through players that at least seen the seen the Pebble Beach program twice and if they’ve got a top 10 top 12 yeah that shows that they can get around
