The Right Leg will unlock your hip rotation, giving you more body speed and club speed. In this video I discuss why Rory Mcilroy and Matt Fitzpatrick use their right leg in a very different way.
I hope you enjoy!

This video gives you great detail on how to hit more greens, hit more fairways and lower your golf scores and ultimately your handicap.
We look at 3 things:
1. How improve your golf grip
2. How to increase angle of attack
3. Help improve your body speed in golf
and I hope to do all this with simple understanding to create a simple golf easy golf swing.
What I want to do is take myself up to the top of the back swing and I’m going to start to pull the cable down two of the straightest hitters of the golf ball in the game use their right leg in a very different way Matt Fitzpatrick Rory
Mooy two of the best drivers of the golf ball and two of the straightest hitters on their day use their right leg in a very different way down through impact we’ve been brought up in golf using their right leg in a way that has compromised our hip rotation we’re all
After some good hip rotation this right leg how it’s been thought of in terms of how it should work through strike is very much with the knee kicked in we thought about how the the right foot lifting up will give us the opportunity to get through the golf ball I’m going
To nip down to the gym and show you exactly why that is garbage so we’ve come down to the gym and if you haven’t seen it go check out my video on you must pull the club I talk about how this cable machine really offers up an opportunity to feel
How you need to load your shoulders and pull on the golf club on the way down this attachment to this cable is a golf grip attached to the cable and allows me to load the weight so as I’ve told about with Rory’s right leg is how much the right leg is
Locked out and how the right leg and the right foot is very much flat on the floor through contact and I want to give you some Form and Function to this and and make you understand that the more we understand that we’re trying to create Force through the floor because of what
We’re trying to move in the air I.E the handle the belly you’ll be equipped to generate more speed more power and ultimately greater distance so I’ve got what have I got on here I’ve got 13 kilos and what I want to do is take myself up to the top of the back swing
And I’m going to start to pull the cable down now as I start to pull it down to the floor and I start to hold the weight here I want you to appreciate that if I was to start to lift the foot up and lose the contact of the right
Heel on the floor as I pull the golf club down because of the forces that are going on through my feet as I’m pulling on the golf club my feet are actually trying to slide and rotate around and so when that occurs by losing contact with the floor
By this this right knee kicking up will start to lessen my opportunity to load more weight on the golf club now when the club is light it’s quite simple but now when I start to put more weight on the cable I’m now up to 30
Kilos as I now start to pull on this Golf Club at the top and I now start to do it lifting my foot up all of a sudden I’m not going to pull that while I’m chatting too much all of a sudden I’m going to be weaker for it
By pulling on the cable and lifting the foot up at the same time I start to lose purchase on the floor but not only that as I start to pull it and I start to move sideways as I move sideways the right foot that’s pushing me in that
Direction really stops my lower half from opening up so my ability to keep that right foot on the floor and push that left leg up with both feet flat on the floor at strike does not inhibit the amount of golfer can rotate in fact it will give the golfer more
Opportunity to pull on the cable and start to create more purchase on the floor so that we start to actually see these legs as pistons and not shock absorbers and the right leg lengthening through strike is a key component in that that allows you to create more traction that actually lifts the right
Hip up rather than in the old school way of driving laterally allowing the right knee to kick in which sinks the right shoulder down which starts to change the direction of the handle down through strike so I really want to see when the right leg is longer I really start to
Feel and see how this right shoulder and this right hip start to move more out the minute I kick the knee in can you see how it sinks the hip it sinks the shoulder which would then start to change the way this right arm starts to behave and how the handle would then
Start to track off to the right as usual so as I’m pulling on the the golf club I’m feeling how the right leg would always want to feel like it’s creating some vertical Force upwards which will give me the opportunity to start to feel how my lower half can rotate my hips can
Rotate and of course as usual the more we allow the hips to rotate the more we allow the chest to rotate and of course if you’re pulling on the golf club and you’re moving the club around yourself we’re looking for this handle to track back inside at this
Point rather than moving out to the right that’s really hard on my shoulders if I was to try and get that cable out over there my shoulders would be in some real strife and so when I have the handle down underneath me at a dress my ability to keep pressure on
That cable is far better better than when I have the handle up over here which is now really hard much much easier down in this direction so that when we start to move the golf club and we’re pulling on the cable and we’re starting to move the golf club around us
My chest down that keeps the pressure down is a lot more affordable to me because of my posture at address because of the way I’m starting to move my lower half and ultimately that right leg the length of it that allows my hip to stay much higher my right shoulder to stay
Much higher which pulls the handle back inside but again if you’ve been a golfer that’s believed we need to go side on we need to kick the knee up we need to lift the heel we need to drive the handle out to the right you’re going to really
Sacrifice your ability to move around the golf ball let’s get back up into the studio and hit some shots now you understand how the levers behave when they are loaded the trouble is when we have this golf club it’s static and we start to work on
Positions it’s when life gets a lot more tricky load loading the kinetic chain loading the structure loading the golf swing is crucial to making you understand how we need to move to optimize Form and Function the right leg therefore will allow the lower half to rotate it will
Allow the chest to rotate so I’ve got a little drill here for you that’s going to enable you to use that right leg in a very different way I want you to hit some shots and here we have it as a very different way of hitting shots to what you’ll be used to
And I want you to hit them with both feet flat on the floor the right leg the right foot being flat on the floor really allows that right hip to stay high it really allows that right side to start to move around the golf ball now the minute you start to
Move that right side around the golf ball as soon as you start to feel like that ball Fades off to the right you know you’ve got a club face error not a path eror face was 2 and2 de open to the path the path was dead straight and I
Was 3.8 down so as I start to use that right leg and feel like it’s longer by keeping that right foot on the floor and moving my hip to the Target and if you saw my most recent videos where I talk about hitting the cane with my right
Hip the uh the link is up on the page there you will start to see that by mobilizing that right hip and keeping the right foot on the floor can you now see how my right leg gets very much straighter so keeping both feet flat on
The floor and feeling how that right leg can lengthen will really start to allow you to move around the golf ball moving around the golf ball as you know gives you the best opportunity now from what you’ve seen down the gym is this opportunity to now start to
Square that club face up so the right leg will allow you to still rot rotate your body through without compromising the direction the handle goes in which compromises the direction the face goes in so do give that drill a little go with both feet flat on the floor if
You’ve enjoyed that do let me know if you have any thoughts and I think you’ll find that’s good coaching

Loving this one always had a problem with turning through the ball this makes it alot easier
I’ve done this drill in the past with much success. I’ll try it this weekend with everything else I’ve learned. Have always struggled with thin iron shots. There were a couple of times I got down and into the ball the other night in league however and into a balanced finish. It’s coming. Slowly, but it’s coming. Well done as usual my friend. Best regards, NWH
Oh my. 40+ years of kicking that right knee in! I have a bit of work ahead of me. The first of which is to go through a gaggle of your videos and gain a better understanding of it all. Yep, I have my grip right! But all those years of knee knocking, what a waste. Good Golf Coaching is an understatement of what you do and thanks for that.
This is a prime example of why your teaching is so good. At some point last year I watched my swing and thought "urgh I'm so flat footed through impact" cue several weeks of working on something that was hurting performance. Lesson learned though, visit Stu, ignore gut feel 🙂
I’m still working on the left shoulder…… this stuff is coming thick and fast 😂
Melissa, suggest your clothes be a different color so we can see easier what you’re talking about
Stuart , how would you help hip rotation if your lower spine is restricted it would be an interesting video to show for the senior golfers who are not as agile how they could increase rotation using a different method and less stain on the body..
Oh, love this. I've noticed that a few young, good players at our club do that. Doesn't come naturally to me and will take a bit of work. BUT!!! I certainly can see the benefits.
Teaching is good but way too slow
Ben hogan certainly turned his right knee and almost touched his left
Do not underestimate how accurate this coaching is, it’s difficult but it produces results. It’s long term for me but maybe sorter for others.
somehow everytime I make a breakthrough in my swing, the next day a video is recommended on my page that affirms it LOL
Was noticing on video how my lower body slides so much towards target in the downswing and how early the right foot lifts off and spins out. Only club I cannot swing has been my driver – pushes and push slices.
Went to the range after my round and just had an idea to feel more weight in my right foot through impact (keeping it planted) and later going vertically upwards instead of target-ward and suddenly began hitting straight draws and if I did push, it wasnt as much as before.
Am going to do the drill you show here. Have noticed in the past for my wedge shots how keeping the right foot plated even with more weight on left foot fixes bad contact issues.
The gym pulley demo makes complete sense.
Thanks!
