The 2023 season was full of surprises with Aston Martin coming out of the corner swinging and McLaren making an unbelievable leap in performance mid season. Those two shocks meant William’s incredible progress went under the radar, as did Alex Albon’s surprise return as he spent the season regularly competing for points finishes. With Williams aiming to make some big improvements for 2024, and the driver market set to be one of the busiest in recent memory, Alex Albon could be the most important driver on the grid. Today I’ll talk about Alex, what we can expect from Williams, and why he might be the most desirable driver on the grid this year. Let’s check it out.

The 2023 season was full of surprises with Aston Martin coming out of the corner swinging and McLaren making an unbelievable leap in performance mid-season these two shocks meant Williams incredible progress went under the radar as did Alex alon’s surprise return as he spent the season regularly competing for Point finishes with
Williams aiming to make some big improvements for 2024 and the driver Market set to be one of the busiest in recent memory Alex albon could be the most important driver on the grid today I’ll talk about Alex what we can expect from Williams and why you might be the
Most desirable driver on the grid this year let’s check it out Alex albon’s Formula 1 Journey up until this point has been pretty wild he joined what was then known as the Toro Roso team in 2019 and put in some decent performances nothing that was mindblowing though he
Outd drove his teammate Daniel Kat more often than not but the Russian driver was never outstanding himself more often it was used as a standard to measure other drivers against if you are better than kette you can drive it Red Bull if not then you best find a seat elsewhere
Albon’s big chance came halfway through that first season when Pier gazley was given an extremely questionable kick from the Red Bull team I think in 2019 Red Bull didn’t fully understand the level of talent that they had in Max V stappen it was a year after Daniel
Ricardo had left the team and Red Bull seemed to think that one of their younger less experienced drivers could just make the step up and instantly challenge V stappen on track the demoting of gazley was a rash decision and albon proved that when he also struggled to match up to the world
Champion in training Alex did get a couple of podiums in 2020 for Red Bull but his performances weren’t what the team wanted and at the end of the season he was let go and replaced by Sergio Perez for 2021 Alex looked completely defeated by the end of that 20120 season
Breath of confidence and with a reputation in tatters with his mid-season promotion to the Red Bull team proper many people expected him to be the next big thing in F1 but putting that much pressure on a rookie driver was never going to work out when when he
Left Red Bull no one decided to take a chance on him for 2021 and that was probably for the best the year off gave him time to rest and recover from the mental thrashing that the Red Bull team had given him both in private and in the
Media in 2022 he came back at Williams and despite the car being abysmal he did what was expected of him picking up points where possible and beating Nicholas latifi in 2023 though Williams found some form and Alex regained his confidence he put rookie teammate Logan Sergeant to the sword and completely
Outdraw the rest of the back markers his 27 points were enough for Williams to secure seventh in the Constructor Championship on his own his extraordinary season has also positioned the 27-year-old as an interesting player in the driver’s Market Beyond 2024 when his current contract with Williams expires Alban insists he gets the praise
Thrown his way but he also finds it a bit odds as doesn’t recall ever feeling out of his depth in F1 I get it I understand why it happens he said at the end of last season when I look at my career I had a very good year year 1
Which in some ways got me promoted a little bit too quickly a little bit inexperienced and vulnerable in 2020 obviously I had a year away and got my second opportunity back at Williams but I never felt like I didn’t belong in Formula 1 I feel like as my confidence
Has gotten stronger and I’ve become more experienced I’ve been able to really showcase myself as for taking his game to the next level in 2023 albon attributes his improved performance and consistency to a greater sense of comfort and experience rather than a significant boost in Ross speed I think
In some ways it’s a given because I’ve had more laps under my belt another year with the team he explained I don’t think the raw speed has changed massively but I’ve been able to get the car to suit me and to exploit the car and I feel like
I’ve been comfortable with the car every weekend I know what the car needs to be quick everything just feels like it’s been connecting easier and because of that it’s easier to execute races as well and not make mistakes I do think it’s been my best year there’s no reason
To expect Alex to do anything other than improve again this season but when whether he can add more points to his 2023 Hall will be all down to whether or not Williams can improve their car a big part of the problem for Williams last season was an inability to find speed
Through low- speed Corners they were regularly one of the fastest teams on the grid in a straight line but then as soon as they had to go slowly they were dead in the water the main reason for this failing was the car’s tendency to lock up the front brakes when going into
Lows speed Corners this meant that Alex and Logan had to start breaking earlier so they could have a softer deceleration to stop the front’s Locking if they didn’t then they would lock up losing time anyway and flat spotting their tires it’s an area that Williams have been targeting with upgrades but
Apparently they’re a long way off getting it fixed yet according to album if I gave you a figure it would be about 25% of the way improved to where I would want it to be but next year talking about 2024 our goal is to take a much
Bigger step and really try to eliminate it it was in preseason testing in Bahrain last year that the Williams team realized the front locking was still a limitation despite efforts to tackle this characteristic as Williams head of vehicle performance Dave Robson explains attempts were made to improve the
Weakness during the season but to limited effect we came out of Bahrain knowing where some of the limitations were the tendency to lock the inside front wheel seemed quite High Robson told the race at the end of last year and that can be quite costly and is also
A little bit dependent on the Wind fixing this issue is going to be a big part of williams’ offseason development and it will become evident very quickly in preseason testing if they have failed Williams stopped development of the 2023 car after the eighth race of the season
Last year so hopefully all of that time working on the 2024 car will be rewarded challenging Alpine at the bottom of the Midfield has to be the team’s aim as they continue building on their great 2023 and try to keep Alex at the team in the future Williams team principal James
Vals has said that Alex albon has the skills to become an F1 world champion after the 27-year-old driver has become an instrumental part of the team’s Revival since assumed leadership early in 2023 albon has been on an upward trajectory in the 2023 season albon’s remarkable performance resulting in
Seven points finishes played a pivotal role in williams’ contention for the seventh spot in the Constructors Championship the team’s highest finish since Felipe Massad dve for them reflecting on the team’s progress vals acknowledged the transformation from the previous season underscoring the ambitious yet grounded approach he
Fostered within the team this is a very different Williams team from what we saw at the end of 2022 and at the beginning of the season when I started I didn’t set a goal in which place we would finish the world championship I wanted to get this team back on its feet Val
Said I thought Ninth Place was realistic eighth place was a dream we fought for seventh place because albon did an incredible job he defended himself in Montreal Silverstone and Monza against a whole crowd of drivers who were faster than him then we managed to improve the
Package we have in such a way that we could drive into the points on our own two counters here two there nevertheless we have to stay on the carpet the top teams score almost as many points on a race weekend as we do throughout the year that’s the bar V’s Praise of Alex
Won’t do anything to stop the rest of the grid eyeing him up for a seat in 2025 the grid for this season remains static from the end of last season which is a highly unusual occurrence for the sports but with such stability comes a Welter of contracts to run out at the
End of the season no less than 14 known to be expiring with Red Bull Ferrari and Ashton Martin all currently with at least one opening available as usually is the case with the Silly Season which traditionally kicks in around the summer break one key Skittle Must Fall For the
Rest to follow and only when the Kingpin tumbles does the picture become clearer for the entire spot in this case you would expect Sergio Perez to be the trigger for Silly Season given his precarious situation with Red Bull after his struggles throughout last year’s championship but it is often the case
That the critical impact is made by which driver is signed rather than which driver is dropped in 2022 that that driver was Fernando Alonzo being signed by Aston Martin therefore the spotlight will be on which driver is Christian her’s choice to partner the Sten it’s not out of the Realms of possibility
That albon could be that driver given his performances last season albon not only displayed sheer Pace on track but also strong leadership off track working closely with the technical team to help push Williams Machinery up the grid the fact albon now possesses a dual threat
For teams to buy into is a major bonus added to this he’s now cleaned up the frequent errors that hampered his progression with Red Bull and the case can be made for a return to the top of the grid for a team such as Red Bull or
Even Ferrari albon is probably the best place driver potentially looking for a move that can offer Pace experience leadership and most importantly consistency he’s now unnown quantity and would be an asset for every team currently in F1 but to underline his stance as the Kingpin albon must continue his trajectory from last year
Push forward with Williams and only then can he present himself in a position of power nothing is guaranteed of course whether it be albon’s performance or Williams’s Improvement the Silly Season overview will look entirely different if the team improves sufficiently to lead its driver to believe it can challenge
For podiums and victories in the coming year it has strengthened its engine relationship with Mercedes and team principal James vals has been hard at work planning improvements to the management team and infrastructure Pat fry the notable name already to have joined so if the team could for example
Reach the top five in the Constructor standings this term albon may be persuaded to stay of course the grid would still likely change with or without albon’s input but his likely step up from Williams means he’ll likely be the trigger point for Silly Season bedin plenty of people have been
Weighing in on where he should go as well Aston Martin have been told that the Williams star would be a really good option for the team heading into the 2025 season legendary driver Fernando Alonzo has entered the final year of his contract though the team team will keep
Him if he’s willing while Lance strolls future is less obvious though that is the case every year Aston Martin may want to consider a move for Alex albon heading into 2025 if they have any doubts over either of their drivers staying on speaking on the race podcast journalist Scott Mitchell mom said I
Think albon would be an absolutely fantastic option for Aston Martin alongside Alonzo the problem with that move though is always going to be L stroll if the owner’s son wants to stay then he’s going to stay regardless of his performan ex Formula 1 team owner Eddie Jordan believes Alex albon deserves a second
Chance at Red Bull with the Irishman believing that the Williams driver could really be mustered Jordan believes that albon might be a big surprise alongside V stappen given that he’s now matured as a driver putting him in a position where he could compete with a Dutchman more
Than Perez currently does I have a real soft spot for album Jordan said on the formula for Success podcast I just think that given the right situations I think he could really really be mustered I would like to see at some stage that he be given the chance alongside Max
Because I think he might be a big surprise Alex is the current favorite to make a massive move and with everywhere but Mercedes an option for him he has the F1 Grid at his Mercy but where do you think he’ll end up and do you think Williams can build on the 2023
Performance let me know your thoughts in the comments and until next time drive safe and bye for now

Awe. I wanted to be second ….
BTW, I am enjoying your channel a lot. Not flashy, just the facts then your opinion.
Well done.
Logan has been tagged for the RB 2nd seat in 25.
I don’t think RBR made any mistakes with driver management in that situation. The sink or swim model has it’s pros and cons. Gasly and Albon sunk. It’s fine. They’re now good drivers, but not elite. RBR can and has easily replaced them. Same method yielded them Max.
if you are a kid or new f1 fan this channel is for you……
The Williams optimism is excessive. The goal should be consolidate their seventh position. Challenging Alpine is like Alpine thinking they’d close the gap to third last season. And Alex a future world champion? GTFO. He’ll be the second driver at whatever bigger team he moves to.
Nice follow up from the conversations the other day. Alex does have the skills and I remember George coming out in Alex’s defense when he was struggling at RBR. Williams have championship pedigree. It would be amazing to see them back at the top of the charts. I think it will take several years, realistically, for them to be contenders again. I’m hoping for them to improve 2 or 3 places up the constructers board this season. I’ll see if that’s ambitious after preseason testing 😂
I think Alex should stay where he is and develop the car. A RB he’d always play second to Max. On another note, I really do NOT rate Sargent at all. He’ll be gone if he performs the same next season, and he will.
i believe Albon will end up with Merc if Williams doesnt turn out to be a frequent race winning team, the calm but tenacious nature of him and Russell (granted he still with them) will be a strong team
I think a good question would be, does Alex want to be the guy that takes Williams back to a winning team or not. Like Michael did with Ferrari or Lewis with Mercedes. It may be a long road. But would it be worth it?
Alex is a star
Imo the best place for Alex would be still Williams if the team keeps improving the way they do now!
If he moves it wont be till 2025 when lando norris gets snatched by Ferrari or red bull, McLaren will take him before anyone else can get to him although i may be totally wrong so yeah just my personal opinion
Alex being a main stay at Williams would probably be the best course of action unless either Max, Charles, or Lewis decide to call it quits. I’d rather see him and Williams develop each other to be a top tier team and driver combo than see him move to a better team. Would be a great story if they can accomplish it.
Alex needs to stay at Williams, he will be happier there, he can develop the car and the results will come.
Everyone at F1 knows Albion is much better and more skilful driver than Max🤷🏻♂️
I've been a fan of Alex since his F2 days. As much as I'd love to see him at Ferrari, I think the nature of the management at Williams suits him, and brings out the best in him. A return to Red Bull will do him no favours, as I believe they focus 100% on Max, with little regard for their No 2 drivers.
I sincerely hope Alex won't go back to Redbull. Whoever takes the second seat at Redbull will always be the second driver. Redbull just doesn't care much for anyone else besides Max.
